Luke 2 1 And it came to passin those days, that there wentout a decree from CaesarAugustus, that all the worldshould be taxed. 2 (And thistaxing was first made whenCyrenius was governor ofSyria.) 3 And all went to be Declared himselftaxed, every one into his own "son of a god".city. His father was Julius Caesar. 1
  2. 2. 4 And Joseph also went upfrom Galilee, out of thecity of Nazareth, intoJudaea, unto the city ofDavid, which is calledBethlehem; (because hewas of the house andlineage of David:) 5 To betaxed with Mary hisespoused wife, beinggreat with child. 2
  3. 3. 6 And so it was, that,while they were there,the days wereaccomplished that sheshould be delivered. 3
  4. 4. 7 And she brought forth herFirstborn Son, and wrappedHim in swaddling clothes,and laid Him in a manger;because there was no roomfor them in the inn. 4
  5. 5. 8 And there were in the samecountry shepherds abiding in thefield, keeping watch over theirflock by night. 9 And, lo, theangel of the Lord came uponthem, and the Glory of the Lordshone round about them: andthey were sore afraid. 10 And theangel said unto them, Fear not:for, behold, I bring you goodtidings of great joy, which shallbe to all people. 5
  6. 6. 11-14 Forunto you is born this day inthe city of David a Savior, which isChrist the Lord. And this shall be asign unto you; Ye shall find thebabe wrapped in swaddling clothes,lying in a manger. And suddenlythere was with the angel a multi-tude of the heavenly host praisingGod, and saying, Glory to God inthe highest, and on earth peace,good will toward men. 6
  7. 7. 15-16 Andit came to pass, asthe angels were gone awayfrom them into Heaven, theshepherds said one toanother, Let us now go evenunto Bethlehem, and see thisthing which is come to pass,which the Lord hath madeknown unto us. And theycame with haste, and foundMary, and Joseph, and thebabe lying in a manger. 7
  8. 8. 17 And when they had seen it,they made known abroad thesaying which was told themconcerning this child. 18 And allthey that heard it wondered atthose things which were toldthem by the shepherds. … 20 Andthe shepherds returned,glorifying and praising God forall the things that they had heardand seen, as it was told untothem. 8
  9. 9. 19 But Mary kept all thesethings, and pondered themin her heart. 9
  10. 10. 21-22 And when eight days wereaccomplished for the circum-cising of the child, His Namewas called JESUS, which wasso named of the angel beforeHe was conceived in thewomb. And when the days ofher purification according tothe law of Moses wereaccomplished, they broughthim to Jerusalem, to presenthim to the Lord; 10
  11. 11. 23-24 (Asit is written in the Law of theLord, Every male that openeth thewomb shall be called holy to theLord;) And to offer a sacrificeaccording to that which is said in theLaw of the Lord, A pair ofturtledoves, or two young pigeons. 11
  12. 12. 25 And, behold, there was aman in Jerusalem, whosename was Simeon; and thesame man was just and de-vout, waiting for the conso-lation of Israel: and the HolyGhost was upon him. 26 And itwas revealed unto him by theHoly Ghost, that he should notsee death, before he had seenthe Lords Christ. 12
  13. 13. 27-32 And he came by the Spirit into thetemple: and when the parents broughtin the child Jesus, to do for Him afterthe custom of the law, Then took heHim up in his arms, and blessed God,and said, Lord, now lettest Thou Thyservant depart in peace, according toThy Word: For mine eyes have seenThy Salvation, Which Thou hastprepared before the face of all people;A light to lighten the Gentiles, and theglory of Thy people Israel. 13
  14. 14. 33 And Joseph and His mothermarveled at those things whichwere spoken of Him. 34 AndSimeon blessed them, and saidunto Mary His mother, Behold,this child is set for the fall andrising again of many in Israel;and for a sign which shall bespoken against; 35 (Yea, a swordshall pierce through thy own soulalso,) that the thoughts of manyhearts may be revealed. 14
  15. 15. 36 And there was one Anna, aprophetess, the daughter ofPhanuel, of the tribe of Aser:she was of a great age, andhad lived with an husbandseven years from her virginity;37 And she was a widow ofabout fourscore and four Assume whenyears, which departed not married 14 + 7from the temple, but served years married = 21God with fastings and prayersnight and day. 21+84= 105 15
  16. 16. 38 And she coming in thatinstant gave thanks likewiseunto the Lord, and spake ofHim to all them that lookedfor redemption in Jerusalem. 16

  19. 19. 41 Now his parents went to Jerusalemevery year at the feast of the Pass-over. 42 And when He was twelveyears old, they went up to Jerusalemafter the custom of the feast. 43 Andwhen they had fulfilled the days, asthey returned, the child Jesus tarriedbehind in Jerusalem; and Joseph andhis mother knew not of it. 19
  20. 20. 44-45 Butthey, supposing Himto have been in the company,went a days journey; andthey sought Him among theirkinsfolk and acquaintance.And when they found Himnot, they turned back againto Jerusalem, seeking Him. 20
  21. 21. 46 And it came to pass,that after three days theyfound Him in the temple,sitting in the midst of thedoctors, both hearingthem, and asking themquestions. 21
  22. 22. 47-48 Andall that heard Himwere astonished at Hisunderstanding and answers.And when they saw Him,they were amazed: and Hismother said unto him, Son,why hast Thou thus dealtwith us? behold, thy fatherand I have sought theesorrowing. 22
  23. 23. 49-50 And He said untothem, How is it that yesought Me? wist ye notthat I must be about MyFathers business? Andthey understood not thesaying which He spakeunto them. 23
  24. 24. 51 And He went down withthem, and came to Nazareth,and was subject unto them:but His mother kept all thesesayings in her heart. 24
