16 Nov 2014: "Knowing and Worshipping God" (Exodus 20:1-6)

God spoke to Moses and delivered the Ten Commandments. The first commandment establishes that the Israelites must have no other gods before God, who freed them from slavery in Egypt. This commandment is followed by prohibitions against idolatry and taking God's name in vain, as well as requirements to observe the Sabbath and honor one's parents. The commandments lay out moral laws against murder, adultery, theft, false witness, and coveting.

• And God spoke all these words: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. • “You shall have no other gods before Me” • “You shall not make for yourself an idol…” • “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God …” • “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” • “Honour your father and your mother…” • “You shall not murder.” • “You shall not commit adultery.” • “You shall not steal.” • “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbour.” • “You shall not covet…”

Every new generation/believer can, in Christ, break the cycle of generational sin and begin the cycle of generational blessing. Psalm 79:8 “Do not hold against us the sins of the fathers; may Your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need.”
