Occidental Mindoro is located in the western part of Mindoro Island. It has a land area of 588,350 hectares and consists of 11 municipalities. The economy is based on agriculture, with key crops including rice, corn, onions, garlic, and fish. Tourism is also important, with attractions like Apo Reef Marine Park, Mount Iglit game sanctuary, and Presing Park overlooking the sea. The indigenous Mangyan tribes living in the province differ in their languages and customs but practice animism and agriculture.
