Notre Dame College Essay
My entire life has revolved around Notre Dame. While my mother was pregnant with me, she rode
her bike along the lakes at Notre Dame. When I was four, I was a Notre Dame cheerleader for
Halloween. When I got my first camera, my first pictures were of me holding a Notre Dame football
and standing in front of the golden dome with my American girl doll. Every year, I visited the
campus since it was a rest stop on the way from Chicago to Buffalo and every year my desire to
become one of the fighting Irish grew. When the time arrived to start the college search process, I
saved Notre Dame for my last college visit. As the tour date approached, I grew anxious because it
had been my ideal school for so long and I feared that it wouldn't live up to my expectations.
Thankfully, Notre Dame exceeded my already high expectations. Everyone was welcoming, the
campus was magical, and it felt like the home that I had remembered visiting ... Show more content

For the majority of those seconds, I have reflected upon my choices. However, there is one choice
that has greatly influenced my life– the choice to swim. At the age of three, my instructor dunked
me underwater after I refused to swim. The suffocating experience of not having control over my
own body traumatized me. I became so afraid of the water that I refused to swim for a year. Seven
years later, I decided to overcome my fear by joining the swim team and I have been swimming ever
since. Every time I get on the block to race, my anxiety comes back and I am paralyzed with fear. I
have to rely on the strength of my teammates get in the water and swim, not just for the team, but
for myself. Words cannot even describe how accomplished I feel when I touch the wall at the end of
a race. This determination to face my fears has carried through to other aspects of my life;
swimming has brought me great friends, a lifeguarding job, and valuable reflection

Notre Dame Case Study
When it appeared Charlie Strong would be packing his bags with a one–way plane ticket out of
Austin, he may have received a lifeline in a last attempt to save his job. It's no secret, that going
forward, Strong is coaching for his job. According to Horns Digest, sources close to the situation
state that if he finishes out 8–4, it's likely that he can retain his position as the head football coach. It
feels like it's been an eternity since Strong led the Texas Longhorns to an impressive victory over
Notre Dame in the season opener. At the time it seemed like a big deal, but Notre Dame may not
have been a good team despite the preseason hype. Since then, the Longhorns have lost two
consecutive games to California and Oklahoma State. With

The diversity at Notre Dame is inspiring. There are so many people of different ethnic backgrounds,
religions, and origins. It is extremely fascinating for each person to learn about the ways of another
and how everyone's diversity makes them unique. The diversity of everyone at Notre Dame is
accepted and is used to learn about others around world. Before attending Notre Dame, I attended a
school that was primarily of one race and was not able to learn about different types of people. At
Notre Dame, I have made friends from different parts of the world and have been able to learn about
their homeland and culture from their stories. It is heartwarming that how at Notre Dame the
diversity of everyone is welcome and no one is excluded from the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Notre Dame
It was a clear afternoon on November 10th, 1928 when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team
took the field against the Black Knights of Army. Army was the number one team in the nation that
year, and Notre Dame was having one of their worst seasons ever under the leadership of legendary
coach Knute Rockne. At the end of the opening half, neither team had managed to score.
With his dejected players gathered around him in the locker room, Rockne congratulates them on
their performance in the first half and tells them, " I guess we just can't expect to win them all" (3).
He then recalls what the great All–American running back George Gipp had told him as he laid
dying in a hospital bed. What he said next would go down as one of the most famous motivational
lines in sports history. Rockne describes how it was Gipp's final wish for a Notre Dame football
team to, ". . . go out there with all they got and win just one for the Gipper" (5). Using this as a
rallying cry, the Irish battled back in the second half and won 12–6. Rockne's use ethos, pathos, and
logos successfully inspired his players to an upset victory and still motivates people to this day. The
wording of the speech has a lot to do with the intended audience. Rockne is speaking to a bunch of
young men, some of whom are barely more than boys. He doesn't use any complex words or
phrases, which makes what he is saying easier to understand. That is the key to any good speech. It
doesn't matter what you talk about if no one can understand what you are saying Although Rockne's
speech is very brief, he manages to clearly establish his credibility, or ethos, on the topic of speaking
about George Gipp. Rockne states, " None of you ever knew George Gipp. It was long before your
time. But you all know what a tradition he is at Notre Dame" (4). Of all the people gathered in the
room, he was the only one to personally know Gipp, as he was his football coach in the early 1920s
and was present in the hospital when he died. He references Gipp's dying quote by stating, ". . . the
last thing he said to me . . ."(5). By stating that he witnessed George Gipp's last words, Rockne early
on establishes his credibility to the assembled players. By just barely stating

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame Character Analysis
"What makes a monster and what makes a man?" (Schwartz, 83.) – the age old question, so
eloquently phrased as the moral of the story in the musical version of The Hunchback of Notre
Dame, takes on a whole new light depending on the character a person focuses on. When people
think of this question in regards to the aforementioned tale they usually look directly to the
protagonist, Quasimodo, however few look to archdeacon and villain himself, Claude Frollo. Now,
Frollo isn't necessarily exactly who Stephen King had in mind when he first began exploring and
describing horror archetypes, but Frollo is certainly a life–sucking vampire. Much like another well–
known musical character, Sweeney Todd, Frollo seems to have the worst intentions – ... Show more

However, for this document's purpose the only archetype which is going to be discussed is 'The
Vampire' as it is described by Mr. Stephen King. According to King, the "root source of vampirism
[is] cannibalism". He speaks of characters in horror literature slowly but surely munching their way
up the system of social hierarchy –– eating flies, spiders, birds, and lastly people. This eventual
feasting on innocent lives is a gradual process which can be traced back to a defining moment and
outside evil that took place in a character's life (King). When first introduced to this cannibalistic
archetype, it makes one wonder, one, if King needs some psychological help, and two, if this
archetype, which is usually reserved for the horror genre, can be found more subtly in other non
horror based mediums, specifically one deemed completely opposite from for the horror genre –
musicals. Now, musicals aren't necessarily everyone 's forte, however the majority of the population
has at least some history with them. Anyone who has seen a Disney film can tell you the simple
workings of a musical's plot – the protagonist is introduced, the protagonist has to overcome an
antagonist, the antagonist almost wins, the protagonist comes out the victor – all sprinkled with

The Sad Theme of the Hunchback of Notre Dame
Is always a happy ending? The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a book by Victor Hugo written in 1831.
Victor Hugo was born in Besancon, France on February 26, 1802. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is
a French Romantic/Gothic genre book. Hunchback of Notre Dame involves around Quasimodo a
hunchback. The Hunchback of Notre Dame has many different themes. I believe one of the biggest
theme is you shouldn't judge based on appearances. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a very sad
book, but with it being sad there are many great themes such as judgment, and topics like characters,
setting, and plot. Judgment based on appearance is a big theme in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Quasimodo is very kind hearted, but others otherwise because his appearance. Quasimodo is
described by having "a huge head, bristling with red hair; between his shoulders an enormous hump,
a counterpart perceptible in front; a system of the thighs and legs so strangely astray that they could
touch each other only at the knees, and, viewed from the front, resembled the crescents of two
scythes joined by the handles; large feet, monstrous hands" (33). Because of his appearance people
treat him like a monster a terrible, ugly human being, But this isn't true at all Quasimodo is shown to
have a sweet personality. Then we have Claude Frollo the antagonist. Claude is a priest, so you'd
think he's a good person, but you are very wrong. Claude is the reason Quasimodo commits violent
acts as Quasimodo does what his father

What Is The Biblical Values In The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
The Biblical Presence and Influence on the Movie Hunchback of Notre Dame
"But alas, if I have not maintained my victory, it is God's fault for not making man and the devil of
equal strength" (Victor Hugo). In our lives, we are always looking for someone to blame, someone
to look after us, and someone to make us feel better. Quite often, that someone is God. In The
Hunchback of Notre Dame, the characters look to heaven and god for moments of crisis of
happiness in their lives. The idea of heaven, sin, and monsters are portrayed in many scenes in the
movie. The Hunchback of Notre Dame specifically illustrates concepts from the bible through
rejection similar to that of christ, the hypocrisy of the Pharaohs, and basic biblical principles. "No
face as hideous as my face was ever meant for heaven's light. But suddenly an angel has smiled at
me And kissed my cheek without a trace of fright. I dare to dream that she might even care for me as
I ring these bells tonight, my cold dark tower seems so bright" (HND). The hunchback of Notre
Dame, Quasimodo, struggles to be accepted by his society for a very long time. He was always an
outcast in his society. People saw nothing in him, and failed to value him for his kind heart. He was
seen as a monster like creature, who would never encounter love. Jesus Christ, although not seen as
hideous, was also rejected by members of his society. Both Jesus and Quasimodo had kindness and
love ot offer to the world. Jesus, who claimed he was the

Next week in school is College week! I know I still have roughly four more years, but, I have been
thinking on where I want to go college wise. When I graduate from high school, I want to go to
Notre Dame, they have a wonderful teaching system for lawyers. I want to be a lawyer after high
school. Tuition and fees at the University of Notre Dame are $47,929 without financial aid. With
room, board, and other fees combined, total cost of attendance is $64,775. I have looked into the
University of Notre Dame, and I have noticed that the campus is very enormous. I have never really
lived in a big city, so I think that's going to Notre Dame will be new and exciting! I also never left

come down to teach students criminal law and evidence. They have pretend trials as test, meaning
they have their students go and be a judge, attorney, etc... Going to this school will be challenging
but iI want them to challenge me so that I can be an extravagant lawyer. Being a lawyer has been my
dream job since i was in 6th grade, so me getting into this school would help me achieve my goals. I
picked Notre Dame because, I was looking online about what kind of colleges there is to help me
become a successful lawyer. I was flummoxed by all of the colleges that I could go to, but, what
caught my eye with Notre Dame is the fact that they will challenge me. It is a very good school to
go to if you want to become a lawyer. My uncle Jack is a lawyer, he went to Notre Dame and he told
me that it was an excellent school to attend to. These are just some of the reasons I wish to attend
the University of Notre Dame. There are many reasons why and how Notre Dame is the college I
want to attend after I graduate high school. If I can't attend Notre Dame for whatever reason, I
would like to attend Yale or Harvard. They are also really good colleges to attend. Although they are
not the school I really wish to attend they will do just fine

Pros And Cons Of Notre Dame
In the hours after Notre Dame's 31–0 thrashing of rival Michigan under the lights of Notre Dame
Stadium, defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder's stock had never been higher. His defense had just
held Michigan to 289 total yards, forced four turnovers, registered three sacks, and produced
perhaps the greatest gif in college football history. He'd replaced Bob Diaco's "bend but don't
break", totally unfun philosophy, with an attacking defense where he routinely sent multiple safeties,
linebackers, cheerleaders, mascots, or as Don Criqui described it, the whole world. It was beautiful
to watch; players flying around, making plays, taking the fight to the opponent. Those were the salad
days of the 2014 season; Notre Dame started 7–1, with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Very alarming. If the players don't understand the scheme, it doesn't really matter how good it is.
Ask any coach the key to playing offense, they'll answer execution. We just need to execute, do our
jobs and we'll be fine. Ask a defensive coach the key to playing defense and you'll hear phrases like
"hit and hustle", "play with your hair on fire", "reckless abandon", "wherever you go, go 100 MPH."
I'd have to assume it's hard to play 100 MPH when you are "paralyzed in thought." We know the
defense works when the guys know where they are going, we've seen it work. We've also seen what
happens when they have no idea what to do. The good news is the players have professed to being
more comfortable in the defense and there is evidence that VanGorder's scheme is effective when
time is afforded to learn it. In 2008, his first season with the Falcons, his defense came in at 24th in
the league after being 29th the year before under a different coach. In the subsequent three season's
their total defense rank rose every year from 21st to 16th to finally 12th in 2011. But, those were
NFL players who didn't have practice restrictions and had to study for courses like Chinese–
Mandarin. Is the learning curve too steep for the college athlete to truly "get it?" This is especially
an issue when Notre Dame has to sit two starters because they can't get the calls and is forced to
play lesser players just so the defense can get lined up. Blue–chip linebacker Nyles Morgan is still
struggling to get the calls correct and is likely to play a reserve role this season because of it. Is the
scheme so great that it comes at the expense of the more talented players watching on the

Identification:
The religious tradition that I chose to attend was that of Christianity, and the denomination was
Roman Catholic. The name of the place of worship that I attended was Notre–Dame Cathedral
Basilica which is located at 385 Sussex Dr, Ottawa, ON K1N 1J9. I attended the Sunday mass on the
2nd of October 2015 at 12:00pm.
Building:
The cathedral was built entirely out of grey stone bricks and had two tall steeples on each side of the
cathedral's entrance. The steeples were coated with a shiny silvery–white metal and had bells inside
of each steeple that rings at the beginning of mass in the cathedral. In addition to that, there was an
ornate golden cross located at the tip of each steeple. In total, there were three ornate golden ...

At around 11:55 am, the organ music started playing in the cathedral. Then at exactly 12:00pm, the
lead singer announced the opening hymn page number and everyone inside the cathedral stood up,
picked up the hymn books placed at the corner of the pews, and joined in the congregational singing
with the choir along with the music and the ringing bells of the cathedral. At the same time, a
procession started to walk through the middle aisle and towards the altar. The procession was lead
by the crucifix holder in front and the altar servers were carrying candles and Father Michael
Hartney was walking behind them. Once the procession reached the altar, the crucifix holder and the
altar servers were dismissed. Then Father Michael began the service by welcoming the people
attending the service, pointing out that the choir director had served the cathedral for 25 years, and
saying a prayer which the congregation repeated after him. Then the organ music started playing
again, and the choir started the singing along with the congregation. After which, Father Michael
said a prayer and everyone sat down. Then there was the first reading of a verse, followed by the
singing of the choir and the congregation. After that, there was a second reading of a different verse,
followed by another singing of the choir and the congregation. Father Michael then approached the
pulpit and started elaborating on the verses

The University of Notre Dame is one of America's oldest institutions for higher education. From the
beginning, the purpose was clear: create a Catholic–based school, inept to be a Primary and
Secondary establishment to adhere to the ever–growing, young–adult male congregation.
Additionally, it needed to be constructed quickly and ready to open in a short amount of time.
Located near convenient transit of its day, Notre Dame grew to be one of America's most elite
universities. With a continuously growing number of students and faculty, Notre Dame has not only
stood the test of time for 173 years, it has become an American institution.

handled it very smoothly. The players will be able to fight it and try to get back on the team. As a
Notre Dame fan, it is, tough to see these players that could have done something special for the team

the primary time a member of the football team has been connected to alleged educational
improprieties. Quarterback Everett Golson, a key member of the team that went successfully within
the 2012 regular season and lost the BCS national championship game to Alabama, was asked to

The kings and queens of Europe watch France from afar with careful breath and studious eyes. They
have no idea of what the future has in store for them, nor can they comprehend the significance of
the events that brought about this day. The old order of Europe wait for the first show of danger,
hiding behind the luxuries afforded to them by John Locke's Social Contract. But they are ignorant
of the spark kindling within the Cathedral of Notre Dame, all they see is a throne waiting for a

France was lost in the violence of sinners, what stands before me is Rome reincarnated. And I will

for mankind. By day's end he will have either crowned Europe's savior, a promise of peace and
prosperity for a war stricken continent, or a tyrant whose ambition and greed would contribute to the
destruction of God's earthly realm. As the carriage nears the Cathedral, Pius closes the windows of
his carriage and finishes a prayer he'd begun the night before, "Whatever your bidding, I, your

All at once streets erupt with the joyous cries of hundreds of thousands of Parisians. Pius looks on at

Essay On Sacred Heart Vs Notre Dame Hockey Game
On Thursday, October 19, I attended the Sacred Heart versus Notre Dame hockey game. I have
previously attended hockey games at Compton Family Ice Arena both in and out of the student
section. However, this experience was slightly different than my previous ones since many students
were still away for fall break. The lack of students created a much different atmosphere especially
because at Notre Dame Hockey games the crowd tends to feed off the excitement of students. This
was obvious during certain songs such as "Turn Down for What" by DJ Snake and Lil Jon which
elicits strong responses from students but created little excitement minus the students. However, the
crowd did feed off the band. The crowd joined in during "let's go Irish" ... Show more content on

The first was the constant matchup graphic on the ribbon board as I found the animation kind of
distracting throughout the game. It would be helpful if the players on the ice were shown with their
statistics similar to the way it is done at both men's and women's basketball games, however, I also
understand that may be unrealistic in hockey since there are such quick line changes. Another
possible area of improvement is the intro video. It felt very generic compared to the ones that I'm
used to seeing for Notre Dame sports. Unlike this year's intro videos at volleyball (which features
team expectations matched with player highlights) and football (which focuses on the excellence
and tradition of the program), the only words in the hockey intro video were "what a hit" and "takes
a shot" which seem like placeholders for something more. Since this team did reach the Frozen Four
last year, I expected the intro video to build on last year's excellence or how they succeeded despite
having one of the lowest seeds in the tournament. Another big aspect of in–game entertainment at
hockey is the intermissions. At this game, the first intermission was filled by a youth hockey league
playing. I really enjoyed watching all the little kids play hockey. It involved the community and
created positive memories for the kids and their parents. The second intermission was used for the
Slap Shot contest. The Slap Shot contest is always fun and really engages the

Connection to Place:
Architecture and Grotesqueness in the Characters of Hugo's Notre–Dame of Paris
"His salients fitted into the building's re–entrants, if you will allow the metaphor, and he seemed to
be not only its natural inhabitant, but also its natural content. One might almost say that he had taken
on its shape, just as the snail takes on the shape of its shell. It was his abode, his hole, his envelope.
So deep was the instinctive sympathy between the old church and himself, so numerous the
magnetic and material affinities, that he somehow adhered to it like a tortoise to its shell. The
gnarled cathedral was his carapace." (164)
In his 1832 novel Notre–Dame of Paris, Victor Hugo interlaces discussions of medieval architecture
with a story set among the people of medieval Paris. In his story, he introduces us to a number of
grotesque and morally questionable characters, whose actions and appearances often bridge the line
between empathetic and unpleasant. For each of these main characters, Hugo establishes a location
for his readers to associate with them, and thus compares his characters to the architecture of the
city, many of whose buildings and locations are mixtures of dissimilar architectural styles or are
crooked and uneven. The architecture of these locations, as well as the symbolism of the
architectural styles, provides us with both an emotional and a literal backdrop to the characters and
their behaviors. Through these associations, Hugo uses the

Analysis Of The Notre Dame Cathedral
The Notre Dame Cathedral is the most visited tourist site in France, beating the Eiffel tower with 13
million visitors each year. Because it took over 300 years to build, there are many different styles of
the architecture shown throughout the building(notredamecathedralparis.com). This structure shows
the hardships of war and the enlightened thinking of the Renaissance. Built in 12th century France,
the Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the biggest French Catholic cathedrals in France and is still
functional as a regular Church(sacred–destinations.com). This gem of architecture is a true wonder
and represents the sacred and hopeful times of the middle ages and the renaissance. This
mountainous structure is seen from about every point of Paris and beyond. From the front, you can
see two towers jutting out of an ordinary street. The Cathedral also features large stained glass
windows, that are one of the most beautiful features of the structures. From the side, you can see the

Notre Dame Stereotypes
"If disabled people were truly heard, an explosion of knowledge of the human body and psyche
would take place" says Susan Wendell, a disability rights advocate. From able–bodied actors playing
individuals with disabilities, to victimizing those with disabilities and depicting them as being
completely helpless, Hollywood still has issues with the portrayal of those living with disabilities.
Unfortunately, such films that present people with disabilities in a stereotypical manner are
relatively prevalent. Films such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Forrest Gump, and Wonder
highlight these traditional stereotypes. Media, particularly film, is problematic due to its inaccurate
and flawed portrayals of individuals who live with mental and physical disabilities on daily basis.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a classic Disney film first released in 1996. The plot focuses
around Quasimodo, a deformed man hidden away from the world in a bell tower. The character of
Quasimodo is repeatedly dehumanized, and presented as being lesser due to the fact that he has a
physical deformity. Quasimodo only receives recognition after saving a beautiful gypsy girl,
Esmerelda, and killing the controlling priest, Frollo. It is only after these events that the people who
had previously viewed him as being monstrous have a miraculous change of heart and ... Show more

Unfortunately, despite the film's good intentions, it still has detrimental consequences for those
living with disabilities. The name Quasimodo itself is derogatory, meaning "half–formed." When
Archdeacon Frollo discovers that the infant he has just rescued has a physical disability, he recoils,
calling it a demon and trying to kill him. The only thing that prevents this is his own guilt and his
strong religious faith. Frollo, as a Christian feels as if it is his duty to rescue

Notre Dame de Paris
Abstract
Notre–Dame of Paris is one of the most prominent cathedrals in the land of Paris and portrays many
diversified Gothic characteristics. This research essay will explore the cathedral in detail while
emphasizing on the influence of Gothic architecture on the cathedral. Notre–Dame of Paris bears all
the structural features of a Gothic cathedral including the famous rose window. By far, the Gothic
style has influenced the entire design of Notre–Dame of Pairs. If there were other influences, it
would be too minor to be taken noticed of. The construction began in year 1163. Being a significant
building to the locals, she bore important responsibilities. Eugene Viollet–le–Duc played an
important role in the cathedral's restoration. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This majestic cathedral decorated the land of Paris, dominating both the history of architecture as
well as religion history. The cathedral still stands proudly after enduring an eventful history over
many centuries. Truly a fascinating historic building to behold, 'Our Lady of Paris', another term for
Notre–Dame of Paris, portrays many diversified characteristics which will help identify a structure
as Gothic. One may lay eyes upon this building and refer it to one of Gothic's grand structure. For
many, their first concept of Gothic architecture derives from some reference to this majestic
construction. In this research, I shall consider the following questions as an approach to appreciate
and comprehend Notre Dame de Paris's architectural aesthetic and value better:
1. What are the obvious influences of the Gothic style to the cathedral?
2. Has the Gothic style influenced the building completely or only part of it? If it was only partially
influenced, what may be the other influence that affected the design of the structure?
3. How and when the cathedral was build?
4. What is the importance of this cathedral and how did the local people accepted the cathedral? As a
brief introduction to Gothic, the label 'Gothic' was coined in Italy. It was during Renaissance, "as a
derogatory reference to the art and architecture of these earlier centuries" (Introduction:

My Notre Dame Experience
Attending the University of Notre Dame means so much more for its students than just being able to
put the name of a prestigious college at the top of your resume; it also means that you are a
permanent member of the Notre Dame community. During my first few weeks here as a freshman, I
heard endless testimonials from upperclassmen, my dorm staff, and professors of the like about how
truly special it is to be a part of the Notre Dame community and what it has meant to them. I have to
admit that I was a little skeptical at first about actually finding myself here and where I best fit in
this one–of–a–kind community. As I near the halfway point in my college career, I can proudly say

The Cathedral Of Notre Dame
The Cathedral of Notre–Dame in Reims, northeast of Paris near Champagne was the coronation
church of the kings of France and was an educational and cultural center. Also built of limestone, the
architecture of the Reims Cathedral features Gothic style. It symbolizes an Early Gothic, Radiant
Gothic and Flamboyant Gothic. The Reims Cathedral depicts a classic harmonic facade containing
four levels. Its interior is defined by its towering heights and narrow proportions, and elaborate
sculptural works. Because of the high quality of workmanship and materials used, Reims Cathedral
features some of the most beautiful gothic art in existence. Five different cathedrals have been on
the site on which Reims cathedral now sits since 401 CE. The current cathedral was built in 1211,
after the previous cathedral had burned down. The new building was almost entirely finished by the
end of the thirteenth century. 88 gargoyles were counted on the Reims Cathedral and are mainly
used to drain off rainwater and are exceptional pieces of work, but do show the slight difference
between Gothic and Romanesque styles. The stained glass windows are a beautiful part of Reims
despite being damaged or ruined several times in the 18th century; the cathedral still has many 13th
century stained glass windows, in the upper parts of the nave, choir and transept. On the opposite
side of the great western portal, the Great Rose Window, dating from the end of the 13th century,

The Notre Dame (meaning 'Our Lady,' the full name of the cathedral being 'Notre Dame de Paris,' or
'Our Lady of Paris') cathedral is located in Paris on the Île de la Cité, one of the two remaining
natural islands in the river Seine. The Catholic cathedral was preceded by St. Stephen's, the
Merovingian cathedral that stood on the island prior to the construction of the Notre Dame, which
required that St. Stephen's be torn down. The Notre Dame was built when Maurice de Sully, the
bishop of Paris at the time, decided a larger sanctuary was necessary to accommodate the growing
population of Paris.
The cathedral was built in the Gothic architectural style, which was new at the time and not known
by the name of Gothic until much later. The foundation stone was laid in the presence of the king by
Pope Alexander III in 1163. The work was almost entirely directed by Maurice de Sully and his
successor, Odon de Sully. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The flying buttresses were added in the 1300s for support of the building. In the Renaissance era,

decorations and furnishings were destroyed because they either were symbols of the Old Regime, or
were mistaken for such symbols – as was the case when the statues of the kings of Judah were

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame Essay
The Hunchback of Notre–Dame
"Love is a universal language." This popular quote from many movies and literary works describes
the importance of love, and how there are no limits or barriers when dealing with love. Many people
cannot even help whether or not they fall in love. There are many types of love and they need not be
between members of opposite sexes. In
Victor Hugo's novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame,
Quasimodo's love for Esmerelda is not as strong as his different sense of love for the Archdeacon,
Claude Frollo.
Quasimodo loves each person in a different manner, but is truer to the Archdeacon.

Thus the Archdeacon was the only person with whom Quasimodo maintained communication
(p.65). The hunchback feels a sense of love based on comradery and years of relations. He deeply
admires Claude
Frollo's religious faith and charity: that is, the charity shown to Quasimodo when he was only a
young, abandoned boy.
The two men have a complex system of hand gestures and sign language which they use to
communicate with each other. This illustrates their mutual correspondence and understanding.
Through these experiences and this upbringing, Quasimodo develops a Philial love for the
Archdeacon.
In the timeframe of this story, the late 1400's and early 1500's, the Catholic Church is a major factor
and authority in virtually all of a town's laws, transactions and business. This being the case, holding
the position as
Archdeacon, or head of the church, is a much coveted occupation. Quasimodo admires the
Archdeacon's powerful position. The hunchback himself enjoys authority as he possesses the power
of rule over people. This is visible when he is elected Pope of Fools: "Quasimodo let himself be
decked out in them with a kind of proud docility. He was then made to sit down on a brightly
colored litter. Twelve officers of the Brotherhood of Fools lifted it to their shoulders. A bitter

Throughout the book Hunchback of Notre Dame, the act of betrayal plays a frequent role and allows
the story create suspense and multiple surprises. The author Victor Hugo takes the reader through a
narrative set in Paris during the 1480's, meeting many different characters varying from Gypsies to
Priests and even Alchemists. Treachery, also know as betrayal, occurs unfathomably often in this
story, such elements allow the characters that take part in these disloyal acts to have round
characteristics rather than flat ones. Within the story Hunchback of Notre Dame, betrayal plays a
key role in the book's plot and contributes to the meaning of the work all together as a whole.
Therefore due to the excessive amount of times the characters betray each other, the act of betrayal
is adequately shown off within this narrative. Betrayal, double–crossing, treachery and mutiny are
all expressions that can be used to describe the back stabbing acts that take place in Hunchback of

A Visit to the Notre Dame Cathedral
The Notre Dame Cathedral is certainly one of the most beautiful locations in the world, as the city
of Paris as a whole and the building's surroundings contribute to making visitors acknowledge the
importance of this monument. Construction on the cathedral started in 1163 and was largely finished
by 1250, with most of its features emphasizing Gothic influences. The building's architecture, the
sculptures present in it, and the impressive stained glass all stand as reminders that the French
community invested most of its cultural values into the church at the time when it was constructed.
From the very first moment when entering the cathedral one is likely to be struck by the silence
dominating the massive interior. In spite of the somewhat annoying number of curious tourists
(others probably saw my curiosity just as annoying as the noise), the church manages to maintain its
quiet and peaceful nature. This is truly remarkable, taking into account that it is constantly filled
with tourists through visiting hours.
It is difficult to ignore the fact that the Notre Dame is one of most popular monuments in the world
and that many visitors prefer this particular building to the Eiffel Tower. Its popularity certainly
makes it difficult for one to feel the sacredness that it contains and that it was initially meant to put
across. The fact that so many visitors walk through its entrance every day diminishes its value
somewhat, especially considering that many of them fail to

Notre Dame College Essay

  • 1. Notre Dame College Essay My entire life has revolved around Notre Dame. While my mother was pregnant with me, she rode her bike along the lakes at Notre Dame. When I was four, I was a Notre Dame cheerleader for Halloween. When I got my first camera, my first pictures were of me holding a Notre Dame football and standing in front of the golden dome with my American girl doll. Every year, I visited the campus since it was a rest stop on the way from Chicago to Buffalo and every year my desire to become one of the fighting Irish grew. When the time arrived to start the college search process, I saved Notre Dame for my last college visit. As the tour date approached, I grew anxious because it had been my ideal school for so long and I feared that it wouldn't live up to my expectations. Thankfully, Notre Dame exceeded my already high expectations. Everyone was welcoming, the campus was magical, and it felt like the home that I had remembered visiting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the majority of those seconds, I have reflected upon my choices. However, there is one choice that has greatly influenced my life– the choice to swim. At the age of three, my instructor dunked me underwater after I refused to swim. The suffocating experience of not having control over my own body traumatized me. I became so afraid of the water that I refused to swim for a year. Seven years later, I decided to overcome my fear by joining the swim team and I have been swimming ever since. Every time I get on the block to race, my anxiety comes back and I am paralyzed with fear. I have to rely on the strength of my teammates get in the water and swim, not just for the team, but for myself. Words cannot even describe how accomplished I feel when I touch the wall at the end of a race. This determination to face my fears has carried through to other aspects of my life; swimming has brought me great friends, a lifeguarding job, and valuable reflection ... • 3. Notre Dame Case Study When it appeared Charlie Strong would be packing his bags with a one–way plane ticket out of Austin, he may have received a lifeline in a last attempt to save his job. It's no secret, that going forward, Strong is coaching for his job. According to Horns Digest, sources close to the situation state that if he finishes out 8–4, it's likely that he can retain his position as the head football coach. It feels like it's been an eternity since Strong led the Texas Longhorns to an impressive victory over Notre Dame in the season opener. At the time it seemed like a big deal, but Notre Dame may not have been a good team despite the preseason hype. Since then, the Longhorns have lost two consecutive games to California and Oklahoma State. With ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Research Paper On Notre Dame The diversity at Notre Dame is inspiring. There are so many people of different ethnic backgrounds, religions, and origins. It is extremely fascinating for each person to learn about the ways of another and how everyone's diversity makes them unique. The diversity of everyone at Notre Dame is accepted and is used to learn about others around world. Before attending Notre Dame, I attended a school that was primarily of one race and was not able to learn about different types of people. At Notre Dame, I have made friends from different parts of the world and have been able to learn about their homeland and culture from their stories. It is heartwarming that how at Notre Dame the diversity of everyone is welcome and no one is excluded from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Rhetorical Analysis Of Notre Dame It was a clear afternoon on November 10th, 1928 when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team took the field against the Black Knights of Army. Army was the number one team in the nation that year, and Notre Dame was having one of their worst seasons ever under the leadership of legendary coach Knute Rockne. At the end of the opening half, neither team had managed to score. With his dejected players gathered around him in the locker room, Rockne congratulates them on their performance in the first half and tells them, " I guess we just can't expect to win them all" (3). He then recalls what the great All–American running back George Gipp had told him as he laid dying in a hospital bed. What he said next would go down as one of the most famous motivational lines in sports history. Rockne describes how it was Gipp's final wish for a Notre Dame football team to, ". . . go out there with all they got and win just one for the Gipper" (5). Using this as a rallying cry, the Irish battled back in the second half and won 12–6. Rockne's use ethos, pathos, and logos successfully inspired his players to an upset victory and still motivates people to this day. The wording of the speech has a lot to do with the intended audience. Rockne is speaking to a bunch of young men, some of whom are barely more than boys. He doesn't use any complex words or phrases, which makes what he is saying easier to understand. That is the key to any good speech. It doesn't matter what you talk about if no one can understand what you are saying Although Rockne's speech is very brief, he manages to clearly establish his credibility, or ethos, on the topic of speaking about George Gipp. Rockne states, " None of you ever knew George Gipp. It was long before your time. But you all know what a tradition he is at Notre Dame" (4). Of all the people gathered in the room, he was the only one to personally know Gipp, as he was his football coach in the early 1920s and was present in the hospital when he died. He references Gipp's dying quote by stating, ". . . the last thing he said to me . . ."(5). By stating that he witnessed George Gipp's last words, Rockne early on establishes his credibility to the assembled players. By just barely stating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Hunchback Of Notre Dame Character Analysis "What makes a monster and what makes a man?" (Schwartz, 83.) – the age old question, so eloquently phrased as the moral of the story in the musical version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, takes on a whole new light depending on the character a person focuses on. When people think of this question in regards to the aforementioned tale they usually look directly to the protagonist, Quasimodo, however few look to archdeacon and villain himself, Claude Frollo. Now, Frollo isn't necessarily exactly who Stephen King had in mind when he first began exploring and describing horror archetypes, but Frollo is certainly a life–sucking vampire. Much like another well– known musical character, Sweeney Todd, Frollo seems to have the worst intentions – ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, for this document's purpose the only archetype which is going to be discussed is 'The Vampire' as it is described by Mr. Stephen King. According to King, the "root source of vampirism [is] cannibalism". He speaks of characters in horror literature slowly but surely munching their way up the system of social hierarchy –– eating flies, spiders, birds, and lastly people. This eventual feasting on innocent lives is a gradual process which can be traced back to a defining moment and outside evil that took place in a character's life (King). When first introduced to this cannibalistic archetype, it makes one wonder, one, if King needs some psychological help, and two, if this archetype, which is usually reserved for the horror genre, can be found more subtly in other non horror based mediums, specifically one deemed completely opposite from for the horror genre – musicals. Now, musicals aren't necessarily everyone 's forte, however the majority of the population has at least some history with them. Anyone who has seen a Disney film can tell you the simple workings of a musical's plot – the protagonist is introduced, the protagonist has to overcome an antagonist, the antagonist almost wins, the protagonist comes out the victor – all sprinkled with ... • 11. The Sad Theme of the Hunchback of Notre Dame Is always a happy ending? The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a book by Victor Hugo written in 1831. Victor Hugo was born in Besancon, France on February 26, 1802. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a French Romantic/Gothic genre book. Hunchback of Notre Dame involves around Quasimodo a hunchback. The Hunchback of Notre Dame has many different themes. I believe one of the biggest theme is you shouldn't judge based on appearances. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a very sad book, but with it being sad there are many great themes such as judgment, and topics like characters, setting, and plot. Judgment based on appearance is a big theme in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Quasimodo is very kind hearted, but others otherwise because his appearance. Quasimodo is described by having "a huge head, bristling with red hair; between his shoulders an enormous hump, a counterpart perceptible in front; a system of the thighs and legs so strangely astray that they could touch each other only at the knees, and, viewed from the front, resembled the crescents of two scythes joined by the handles; large feet, monstrous hands" (33). Because of his appearance people treat him like a monster a terrible, ugly human being, But this isn't true at all Quasimodo is shown to have a sweet personality. Then we have Claude Frollo the antagonist. Claude is a priest, so you'd think he's a good person, but you are very wrong. Claude is the reason Quasimodo commits violent acts as Quasimodo does what his father ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. What Is The Biblical Values In The Hunchback Of Notre Dame The Biblical Presence and Influence on the Movie Hunchback of Notre Dame "But alas, if I have not maintained my victory, it is God's fault for not making man and the devil of equal strength" (Victor Hugo). In our lives, we are always looking for someone to blame, someone to look after us, and someone to make us feel better. Quite often, that someone is God. In The Hunchback of Notre Dame, the characters look to heaven and god for moments of crisis of happiness in their lives. The idea of heaven, sin, and monsters are portrayed in many scenes in the movie. The Hunchback of Notre Dame specifically illustrates concepts from the bible through rejection similar to that of christ, the hypocrisy of the Pharaohs, and basic biblical principles. "No face as hideous as my face was ever meant for heaven's light. But suddenly an angel has smiled at me And kissed my cheek without a trace of fright. I dare to dream that she might even care for me as I ring these bells tonight, my cold dark tower seems so bright" (HND). The hunchback of Notre Dame, Quasimodo, struggles to be accepted by his society for a very long time. He was always an outcast in his society. People saw nothing in him, and failed to value him for his kind heart. He was seen as a monster like creature, who would never encounter love. Jesus Christ, although not seen as hideous, was also rejected by members of his society. Both Jesus and Quasimodo had kindness and love ot offer to the world. Jesus, who claimed he was the ... • 15. Notre Dame Future Plans Next week in school is College week! I know I still have roughly four more years, but, I have been thinking on where I want to go college wise. When I graduate from high school, I want to go to Notre Dame, they have a wonderful teaching system for lawyers. I want to be a lawyer after high school. Tuition and fees at the University of Notre Dame are $47,929 without financial aid. With room, board, and other fees combined, total cost of attendance is $64,775. I have looked into the University of Notre Dame, and I have noticed that the campus is very enormous. I have never really lived in a big city, so I think that's going to Notre Dame will be new and exciting! I also never left my family for long and Notre Dame isn't too far away from my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The layout of Notre Dame, the way they teach is interesting to me. They have real lawyers who come down to teach students criminal law and evidence. They have pretend trials as test, meaning they have their students go and be a judge, attorney, etc... Going to this school will be challenging but iI want them to challenge me so that I can be an extravagant lawyer. Being a lawyer has been my dream job since i was in 6th grade, so me getting into this school would help me achieve my goals. I picked Notre Dame because, I was looking online about what kind of colleges there is to help me become a successful lawyer. I was flummoxed by all of the colleges that I could go to, but, what caught my eye with Notre Dame is the fact that they will challenge me. It is a very good school to go to if you want to become a lawyer. My uncle Jack is a lawyer, he went to Notre Dame and he told me that it was an excellent school to attend to. These are just some of the reasons I wish to attend the University of Notre Dame. There are many reasons why and how Notre Dame is the college I want to attend after I graduate high school. • 17. Pros And Cons Of Notre Dame In the hours after Notre Dame's 31–0 thrashing of rival Michigan under the lights of Notre Dame Stadium, defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder's stock had never been higher. His defense had just held Michigan to 289 total yards, forced four turnovers, registered three sacks, and produced perhaps the greatest gif in college football history. He'd replaced Bob Diaco's "bend but don't break", totally unfun philosophy, with an attacking defense where he routinely sent multiple safeties, linebackers, cheerleaders, mascots, or as Don Criqui described it, the whole world. It was beautiful to watch; players flying around, making plays, taking the fight to the opponent. Those were the salad days of the 2014 season; Notre Dame started 7–1, with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Very alarming. If the players don't understand the scheme, it doesn't really matter how good it is. Ask any coach the key to playing offense, they'll answer execution. We just need to execute, do our jobs and we'll be fine. Ask a defensive coach the key to playing defense and you'll hear phrases like "hit and hustle", "play with your hair on fire", "reckless abandon", "wherever you go, go 100 MPH." I'd have to assume it's hard to play 100 MPH when you are "paralyzed in thought." We know the defense works when the guys know where they are going, we've seen it work. We've also seen what happens when they have no idea what to do. The good news is the players have professed to being more comfortable in the defense and there is evidence that VanGorder's scheme is effective when time is afforded to learn it. In 2008, his first season with the Falcons, his defense came in at 24th in the league after being 29th the year before under a different coach. In the subsequent three season's their total defense rank rose every year from 21st to 16th to finally 12th in 2011. But, those were NFL players who didn't have practice restrictions and had to study for courses like Chinese– Mandarin. Is the learning curve too steep for the college athlete to truly "get it?" This is especially an issue when Notre Dame has to sit two starters because they can't get the calls and is forced to play lesser players just so the defense can get lined up. Blue–chip linebacker Nyles Morgan is still struggling to get the calls correct and is likely to play a reserve role this season because of it. The name of the place of worship that I attended was Notre–Dame Cathedral Basilica which is located at 385 Sussex Dr, Ottawa, ON K1N 1J9. I attended the Sunday mass on the 2nd of October 2015 at 12:00pm. Building: The cathedral was built entirely out of grey stone bricks and had two tall steeples on each side of the cathedral's entrance. At the same time, a procession started to walk through the middle aisle and towards the altar. The procession was lead by the crucifix holder in front and the altar servers were carrying candles and Father Michael Hartney was walking behind them. Once the procession reached the altar, the crucifix holder and the altar servers were dismissed. Then Father Michael began the service by welcoming the people attending the service, pointing out that the choir director had served the cathedral for 25 years, and saying a prayer which the congregation repeated after him. Then the organ music started playing again, and the choir started the singing along with the congregation. After which, Father Michael said a prayer and everyone sat down. They have no idea of what the future has in store for them, nor can they comprehend the significance of the events that brought about this day. By day's end he will have either crowned Europe's savior, a promise of peace and prosperity for a war stricken continent, or a tyrant whose ambition and greed would contribute to the destruction of God's earthly realm. As the carriage nears the Cathedral, Pius closes the windows of his carriage and finishes a prayer he'd begun the night before, "Whatever your bidding, I, your forever faithful servant and able vessel on Earth, shall see it done. Amen." The doors of the cathedral open and invites a ray of sunlight, which illuminates the face of every individual in the audience. The light falls on an array of gaping mouths, smiles, squinting eyes, and raised monocols. All at once streets erupt with the joyous cries of hundreds of thousands of Parisians. • 27. Essay On Sacred Heart Vs Notre Dame Hockey Game On Thursday, October 19, I attended the Sacred Heart versus Notre Dame hockey game. I have previously attended hockey games at Compton Family Ice Arena both in and out of the student section. However, this experience was slightly different than my previous ones since many students were still away for fall break. The lack of students created a much different atmosphere especially because at Notre Dame Hockey games the crowd tends to feed off the excitement of students. This was obvious during certain songs such as "Turn Down for What" by DJ Snake and Lil Jon which elicits strong responses from students but created little excitement minus the students. It would be helpful if the players on the ice were shown with their statistics similar to the way it is done at both men's and women's basketball games, however, I also understand that may be unrealistic in hockey since there are such quick line changes. Another possible area of improvement is the intro video. It felt very generic compared to the ones that I'm used to seeing for Notre Dame sports. Unlike this year's intro videos at volleyball (which features team expectations matched with player highlights) and football (which focuses on the excellence and tradition of the program), the only words in the hockey intro video were "what a hit" and "takes a shot" which seem like placeholders for something more. Since this team did reach the Frozen Four last year, I expected the intro video to build on last year's excellence or how they succeeded despite having one of the lowest seeds in the tournament. Another big aspect of in–game entertainment at hockey is the intermissions. At this game, the first intermission was filled by a youth hockey league playing. I really enjoyed watching all the little kids play hockey. It involved the community and created positive memories for the kids and their parents. One might almost say that he had taken on its shape, just as the snail takes on the shape of its shell. It was his abode, his hole, his envelope. So deep was the instinctive sympathy between the old church and himself, so numerous the magnetic and material affinities, that he somehow adhered to it like a tortoise to its shell. The gnarled cathedral was his carapace." (164) In his 1832 novel Notre–Dame of Paris, Victor Hugo interlaces discussions of medieval architecture with a story set among the people of medieval Paris. In his story, he introduces us to a number of grotesque and morally questionable characters, whose actions and appearances often bridge the line between empathetic and unpleasant. For each of these main characters, Hugo establishes a location for his readers to associate with them, and thus compares his characters to the architecture of the city, many of whose buildings and locations are mixtures of dissimilar architectural styles or are crooked and uneven. The architecture of these locations, as well as the symbolism of the architectural styles, provides us with both an emotional and a literal backdrop to the characters and their behaviors. From able–bodied actors playing individuals with disabilities, to victimizing those with disabilities and depicting them as being completely helpless, Hollywood still has issues with the portrayal of those living with disabilities. Unfortunately, such films that present people with disabilities in a stereotypical manner are relatively prevalent. Films such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Forrest Gump, and Wonder highlight these traditional stereotypes. Media, particularly film, is problematic due to its inaccurate and flawed portrayals of individuals who live with mental and physical disabilities on daily basis. The Reims Cathedral depicts a classic harmonic facade containing four levels. Its interior is defined by its towering heights and narrow proportions, and elaborate sculptural works. Notre Dame Research Paper The Notre Dame (meaning 'Our Lady,' the full name of the cathedral being 'Notre Dame de Paris,' or 'Our Lady of Paris') cathedral is located in Paris on the Île de la Cité, one of the two remaining natural islands in the river Seine. The Catholic cathedral was preceded by St. Stephen's, the Merovingian cathedral that stood on the island prior to the construction of the Notre Dame, which required that St. Stephen's be torn down. The Notre Dame was built when Maurice de Sully, the bishop of Paris at the time, decided a larger sanctuary was necessary to accommodate the growing population of Paris. The cathedral was built in the Gothic architectural style, which was new at the time and not known by the name of Gothic until much later. • 57. The Hunchback of Notre-Dame Essay The Hunchback of Notre–Dame "Love is a universal language." This popular quote from many movies and literary works describes the importance of love, and how there are no limits or barriers when dealing with love. Many people cannot even help whether or not they fall in love. There are many types of love and they need not be between members of opposite sexes. In Victor Hugo's novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Quasimodo's love for Esmerelda is not as strong as his different sense of love for the Archdeacon, Claude Frollo. Quasimodo loves each person in a different manner, but is truer to the Archdeacon. The hunchback feels, among other things, a love described as Eros for the Mistress Esmerelda; whereas, for the ... The hunchback feels a sense of love based on comradery and years of relations. He deeply admires Claude Frollo's religious faith and charity: that is, the charity shown to Quasimodo when he was only a young, abandoned boy. The two men have a complex system of hand gestures and sign language which they use to communicate with each other. This illustrates their mutual correspondence and understanding. Through these experiences and this upbringing, Quasimodo develops a Philial love for the Archdeacon. In the timeframe of this story, the late 1400's and early 1500's, the Catholic Church is a major factor and authority in virtually all of a town's laws, transactions and business. This being the case, holding the position as Archdeacon, or head of the church, is a much coveted occupation. Quasimodo admires the Archdeacon's powerful position. The hunchback himself enjoys authority as he possesses the power of rule over people. This is visible when he is elected Pope of Fools: "Quasimodo let himself be decked out in them with a kind of proud docility. He was then made to sit down on a brightly colored litter. Twelve officers of the Brotherhood of Fools lifted it to their shoulders. A bitter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frollo additionally hates La Esmeralda, and watches over her from the top of the cathedral like Quasimodo. • 66. A Visit to the Notre Dame Cathedral The Notre Dame Cathedral is certainly one of the most beautiful locations in the world, as the city of Paris as a whole and the building's surroundings contribute to making visitors acknowledge the importance of this monument. Construction on the cathedral started in 1163 and was largely finished by 1250, with most of its features emphasizing Gothic influences. The building's architecture, the sculptures present in it, and the impressive stained glass all stand as reminders that the French community invested most of its cultural values into the church at the time when it was constructed. From the very first moment when entering the cathedral one is likely to be struck by the silence dominating the massive interior. In spite of the somewhat annoying number of curious tourists (others probably saw my curiosity just as annoying as the noise), the church manages to maintain its quiet and peaceful nature. This is truly remarkable, taking into account that it is constantly filled with tourists through visiting hours. It is difficult to ignore the fact that the Notre Dame is one of most popular monuments in the world and that many visitors prefer this particular building to the Eiffel Tower. Its popularity certainly makes it difficult for one to feel the sacredness that it contains and that it was initially meant to put across. The fact that so many visitors walk through its entrance every day diminishes its value somewhat, especially considering that many of them fail to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
