Definition:
 Non farming activities means all those activities which are not related with
agriculture and land.
 Nonfarm refers to those activities that are not primarily agriculture forester
or Fisheries. It includes trade and processing of agricultural product.
Nature of NFA:
1. Non use of agricultural land
2. Related with education
3. It is modern and different
4. Accelerate social change
5. Socially recognized
6. Earn current cash money
Types of (NFA):
1. Job: Job is the first and prime type of NFA. Job means doing works or
perform duty under someone in exchange of salary. There are two sub
division of job. They are-
I. Foreign Employee: This types of employees do perform job in
foreign countries for their occupational purpose.
II. Rural resided employee: Because of industrialization,
urbanization, modernization rural people can perform jobs in their
own village

2. Business: Business is a big scope of NFA in Rural area. Day by day
the business in rural society . In rural society micro and medium business is
prime.
3. Self Employment: self employment means the way by which a
person earn money by his self created activities.
Generally in this term, the person first invest
some money as capital and some times he himself
works as labour or apply outside laborer.
It is an another important scope of NFA.

4. Day laborer classes: day laborer
means those people who doesn't invest
Capital or apply their labour in agriculture
related work.
ex: Rickshaw puller, auto driver.

5 Traditional occupation: Traditional
occupation means those kind of occupation which
are transmitted from one generation to another
as a tradition. But this type of occupation is
decreasing day by day because of socio-economic change.
Ex: Potter/Blacksmith.

6.Small-scale manufacturing:
• Only less than 50 people are engaged in this type of manufacturing in rural
area
• Manufacturing in villages are on a very small
scale.
• Manufacturing activities are usually carried
out in
• the houses by the family members themselves

Patterns of NFA:
1. Day laborer and cornfield laborer: The persons who
don’t have any kind of land or agricultural farm and sell their labour in
exchange of money is called cornfield laborer. On the other hand day
laborer means those people who doesn't invest Capital or apply their
labour in agriculture related work. ex: Rickshaw puller, auto driver.
2. Explanation of multipurpose/versatile occupation:
From the past the expansion of agricultural work is very low. But the
expansion rate of NFA is much higher than agricultural work.

3. Eagerness towards education and training: In NFA
education and training is very important. In agricultural work in past
there was low importance of education. But in NFA a person must have to be
educated and trained
4. Opportunity for continuous work: in agriculture people
had to remain unemployed for a long period of time. As they have nothing to
do . But in NFA a person can continue his work without any problem.

5.Averse to tradition and modern: NFA are mainly related with
modern work. 95% young work oriented villagers are interested in job and
business.
6.Mechanization: New and modern machines has increased and
developed NFA. Science and technology plays an important role in NFA.
7.Impact on rural power structure: In past and still now in
some villages rich farmer have great impact and importance in rural power
structure. But in present who are educated and rich have the authority to control
the rural power structure.
Expensed NFA:
In the past 78.45% people were engaged with agriculture. But in present 49.14%
people are emerged with agriculture and 89.36% people are willing to be related with
NFA.

Conclusion
After all non farming activities in rural areas are very much important . Now-
a-days , people prefer non farming activities than farming activities. And it is
really happening for the development of technology and education. As so the
number of nonfarm workers is increasing day by day.

  • 4. Definition:  Non farming activities means all those activities which are not related with agriculture and land.  Nonfarm refers to those activities that are not primarily agriculture forester or Fisheries. It includes trade and processing of agricultural product.

  • 6. Types of (NFA): 1. Job: Job is the first and prime type of NFA. Job means doing works or perform duty under someone in exchange of salary. There are two sub division of job. They are- I. Foreign Employee: This types of employees do perform job in foreign countries for their occupational purpose. II. Rural resided employee: Because of industrialization, urbanization, modernization rural people can perform jobs in their own village

Self Employment: self employment means the way by which a person earn money by his self created activities. Generally in this term, the person first invest some money as capital and some times he himself works as labour or apply outside laborer. It is an another important scope of NFA.

  • 11. Patterns of NFA: 1. Day laborer and cornfield laborer: The persons who don’t have any kind of land or agricultural farm and sell their labour in exchange of money is called cornfield laborer. On the other hand day laborer means those people who doesn't invest Capital or apply their labour in agriculture related work. ex: Rickshaw puller, auto driver. 2. Explanation of multipurpose/versatile occupation: From the past the expansion of agricultural work is very low. But the expansion rate of NFA is much higher than agricultural work.

But in NFA a person must have to be educated and trained 4. Opportunity for continuous work: in agriculture people had to remain unemployed for a long period of time. As they have nothing to do . But in NFA a person can continue his work without any problem.

Science and technology plays an important role in NFA. 7.Impact on rural power structure: In past and still now in some villages rich farmer have great impact and importance in rural power structure. But in present who are educated and rich have the authority to control the rural power structure.
  • 14. Expensed NFA: In the past 78.45% people were engaged with agriculture. But in present 49.14% people are emerged with agriculture and 89.36% people are willing to be related with NFA.   • 15. Conclusion After all non farming activities in rural areas are very much important . Now- a-days , people prefer non farming activities than farming activities. And it is really happening for the development of technology and education. As so the number of nonfarm workers is increasing day by day.
