very hard classes. You are the best! ~Vickie W.
I’ll second that!! ~Trish P.
For making this course a valuable experience. You are
one of the best instructors I’ve encountered in a long
career of college courses I’ve previously taken. Thanks
Again. ~Steve P.
Thank you so much for all of the help you provided
during these two difficult courses. You’re a valuable asset
to the university and I hope our paths cross again. God

Thank you so much for your support and guidance with
these two courses. It was very challenging, and with your
“down to earth” approach to assisting, it really helped me
understand and realize that I wasn’t far off with my
thinking. Mikie R.

Alignment : Seemingly minor changes in the manner in which a technology is implemented impact it’s utilization and effectiveness in online courses.
Stanford is the fountain head of MOOCs
This influences faculty to truncate the learning process.
Student who watched them the most had the lowest grade in the class. The next five most frequent viewers were not in the top quarter grade-wise.
Immediately see what the student wrote in the journal/real time. AND, no upload/download. Comment & Grade.

Cohort classes give you insights. CIS majors vs. Management majors in an accounting class. Nothing vs. Emotional vomits.
The things I didn’t do:

Violates 18 items on some check-lists I’ve looked at.
There is a lot of hidden curriculum here. A lot of understanding so that everyone is on the same page as to how to do things.
Understanding fall apart.
Can’t implement this with some schools. It will be “improved” out of existence.
This presentation will be a discussion of Alignment . The focus will be on how seemingly minor changes in the manner in which a technology is deployed impact it’s utilization and effectiveness in online courses. Refinement as to exactly how a technology is deployed and aligned in the learning process makes a difference in student usage and satisfaction. Examples will be used from history, math and accounting courses. In instances of both good and bad alignment are explained. Structural elements that serve to make use of technologies more effective will be addressed. The presenter has 28 years of higher education teaching experience with eight different institutions; 14 of which has been gained with online courses. He has served as an instructional designer for the past 12 years and works for Central Michigan Universities online program which was recognized as one of the top online program in the nation through the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll.
