Weather In Moulin Rouge
How does Baz Luhrmann use the weather to portray distress in the protagonists lives in the films
Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge with the help of camera angles?
The manipulation of the weather is a concept that features in both Romeo and Juliet and Moulin
Rouge. In both of these films, it is used to show distress and the death of one or both of the
protagonists. This concept of distress and/or death will be explored. For the film Romeo and Juliet,
sequence will be used where Romeo kills Tybalt and sequence will be used, where Romeo is
banished because of him murdering Tybalt. For Moulin Rouge, I will be exploring sequence ,
where Christian is thrown out of the Moulin Rouge on to the street, as well as the closing sequence,

This is similar to sequence of Romeo and Juliet where Romeo is banished from the town that he
once lived in. In both films there is rain in both of these sequences, showing that Romeo and
Christian are now at their lowest points in their lives, being rejected from places they love and
the people who they have grown fond of, and fallen in love with. In Moulin Rouge Christian is
full of sadness and anger from being thrown out on the streets. The camera angle of Christian in
this sequence is different from that of Romeo in sequence of Romeo and Juliet. We see Christian
in an eye level shot as he lies on the floor in the rain possibly showing, cinematically that he has hit
rock bottom in his life.
In the closing scene of Moulin Rouge we find Satine slowly dying in Christians arms. The camera
angle that Baz Luhrmann decides to use is a birds eye view shot (or in other words an extreme high
angle shot) which shows just how powerless Christian is in this situation. This shows that Christian
s emotions are just of complete and utter surprise and of course sadness. At the end of this scene
we see that it is in fact snowing, showing and emphasising Satine s words to Christian that she is

Smoking Meat In Early America
Smoking meat was also a way of preserving it. To smoke meat it was first salted or soaked in brine
and then hung in a smoke house to slowly dry. The smoke house required a smoky fire under the
meat for days to weeks. Smoking meat took time and care to do. Potting was another storage form
that allowed meat to be stored for a year. Meat from a cow or pig would be put into a big kettle and
boiled over a fire while the fat would be melted in a spider, a skillet with skinny legs that was used
over fire. The fat was melted in the spider until it became a liquid. The meat, once boiled for
hours, was cooled and then placed in a crock. The liquid fat was poured over the meat until it
covered all parts and was about two inches thick. The fat served as... Show more content on

Planting, gathering, hunting, and preparing food took a large part of the colonists day. The need for
the colonists to make and use special kitchen tools and adapt to using natural food sources
available and learn to store them for winter was imperative to their survival. Knowing how the
colonists were able to use the things they had explains many of the foods we still eat today and
how we prepare them. The equipment used, like the lug pole which the colonist improved upon
and made an iron swing arm, is an example of the colonists adapting to the new world. The design
of the pots and kettles with legs to help cook the food without burning was also important. To make
cooking safer they also had long handles on pots and kettles. Finding fresh ingredients and crops
that they could renew was a necessary part of the colonists survival as well. To figure out what
was edible and how to prepare it, the colonists looked to the Native Americans. The colonial cook
had to substitute many ingredients like wheat flour with corn flour, and learn new ingredients like
corn, pumpkin, beans, and cranberries. Having these fruits and vegetables fresh was great, but to
survive the colonists needed to preserve and store food for the winters. They once again looked to
the Native Americans for advice. Many different techniques were used including drying, salting,
brining, potting, and jellying. America of today and American foods like corn, popcorn,
cornbread, baked beans, cranberry juice, and pumpkin pie are all handed down to us thanks to the
Native Americans and the early colonists. In order to survive the colonists had to adapt to new
cooking equipment, use new or available ingredients, and learn new ways of storing these

New Belgium Brewing Company Case Study
The New Belgium Brewing Company (NBB) started out as a small beer brewing concept in 1991,
brewing beers out of their basement. Once they determined they had a product that could be
marketable, they opened their first brewery in Ft. Collins Colorado and have been growing ever
since, becoming the third largest craft brewer in the country (New Belgium BrewingCompany,
2014). But just as any business there is always competition and consumer opinion which allows a
business to continue to develop and grow within their market. Competition in the microbrew
arena has grown over the last decade and according to the Boulder, Colorado based Brewers
Association, the number of microbreweries has surged in the past five years 73% nationally
(Olson, 2014). For the New Belgium Brewing Company, they have used their competitive
advantage to continue to grow their business in a market that shows heavy increases of new
competition. The concept of competitive advantage is, strengths possessed by the firm or real
weaknesses possessed by rival firms (Ferrell Hartline, 2011).... Show more content on

communicating brand distinction to building real brand relevance through social and
environmental advocacy. NBB believes that individuals want to believe and feel good about the
products they purchase. They feel that their most important asset is its image, which is a corporate

The Use of Characterization and Symbolism in Fitzgerald s...
F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel The Great Gatsby focuses on the corruption of the American dream
during the 1920 s. For the duration of this time period, the American dream was no longer about
hard work and reaching a set goal, it had become materialistic and immoral. Many people that had
honest and incorruptible dreams, such as Jay Gatsby, used corrupted pathways to realize their
fantasy. People s carelessness was shown through their actions and speech towards others.
Fitzgerald uses characterization and symbolism from different characters and items to convey the
corruption of the American dream. Fitzgerald expresses the corruption of the American dream
through the use of characterization of different characters. Daisy is one of the few... Show more

At her first big golf tournament there was a row that nearly reached the newspapers a suggestion
that she had moved her ball from a bad lie in the semi final round. The thing approached the
proportions of a scandal... Ergo Jordan was a fraud, and tainted of one of the essential factors of
the American dream, hard work. In addition to her unsportsmanlike behavior, Jordan s dream to
be the best at golf was being led by immoral actions. Her appalling deeds do not affect her in in
any case. The sustained good driver/bad driver metaphor, through which Fitzgerald hints at
standards of morality and immorality, is evident at virtually every turn of the novel:...Jordan
Baker (whose name combines two brands of automobile from the 1920 s) wears her careless
driving as a badge of honor; (Mangum) Jordan Baker has pride in her immorality and is gratified
by her dishonesty. Through the means of characterization, Fitzgerald expresses Tom Buchanan
as another immoral character. Tom is portrayed as an egotistical, hypocrite who advocates white
supremacy. His hypocrisy is shown when he speaks to Gatsby, he conduct himself as a high
class citizen but dwells as a low class citizen. I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw him,
and I wasn t far wrong. What about it? said Gatsby politely. I guess your friend Walter Chase

Comparing The Black Cat, Fall Of The House Of Usher, And...
The dead. We all fear the thought of them and don t know what happens once they re gone.
Everyone knows the stories of the spirits of the dead coming back to haunt the living, but those
stories are nothing compared to the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Stories like Ligeia, The Black
Cat, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Raven all are chilling and thrilling stories evolved
stories of any other horror or gothic story. In these works, the dead have a profound power of the
sanity of the living. As a Poe analyst, Tony magistrale explained, the characters of the dead and
mad narrator force the reader to enter a world where psychosis and dementia reign (Magistrale 76).
Ligeia is possibly the most prominent example that the dead have over the... Show more content on

The narrator even swears that [he] distinctly saw a tremor upon the lips (Poe Ligeia 6). The
spirit of Ligeia haunts Rowena, his newlywed, and eventually kills her. At first, all that Ligeia s
spirit is is A shadow, a faint, indefinite shadow of angelic aspect (Poe, Ligeia 6). Then, she
evolves, and creates sounds and movements only seen by Rowena, which eventually cause her to
awaken from an unquiet slumber... and spoke in an earnest and low whisper, of sounds she then
heard, but which I could not hear of motions which she then saw, but which I could not perceive
(Poe, Ligeia 6). Rowena was definitely being haunted by the jealous and malicious spirit of
Ligeia, but thought of it just as sounds or motions. What she did not know was that the ghost of
Ligeia would come to be her demise. The narrator got his wife some wine to drink to calm her,
and Ligeia I saw fall within the goblet... three or four large drops of a brilliant and ruby colored
fluid (Poe Ligeia 6) into her goblet. This, of course, was poison, and On the third subsequent
night, the hands of her menials prepared her for the tomb (Poe, Ligeia 6). Continuing this, the
narrator s constant thoughts of Ligeia make him completely forget that his second wife is dead
and make him focus more on the fact that he believes the spirit of Ligeia is taking over the body
of Rowena, his dead second wife. When the dead Rowena

Describe Platt s Methods Of Strong Inference Case Study
Questions and Responses
1) Describe Platt s methods of strong inference. How does this method guide research programmes
in terms of accuracy of conclusions, efficiency of resources and utility of planning for future
research? Platt s methods of strong inference are post positivism. He asserts that counter
productivity can occur when a single theory is adhered to and attachment occurs. The single theory
method lacks efficiency and can be subject to confirmation bias. Strong inference is the method
Platt encourages and proposes. Alternate hypotheses are a foundational part of strong inference.
When creating an important experiment with the possibility of differing and alternative outcomes,
each of which will, as nearly as possible, exclude one or more of the hypotheses . Furthermore,
Platt proposes to run the experiment to get a clean result . Lastly, Recycling the procedure, making
sub hypotheses or sequential hypotheses to refine the possibilities that remain, and so on . This
type of research leads to improved accuracy of conclusions due to the nature of not depending on
one hypothesis or the attachment to a single theory. Resources are efficiently used due to the
logical progression of strong inference and the rapid nature conclusions. Platt states,
It is clear why this makes for rapid and powerful progress. For exploring the unknown, there is no
faster method; this is the minimum sequence of steps. Any conclusion that is not an exclusion is
insecure and must be rechecked. Any delay in recycling to the next set of hypotheses is only a
delay. Strong inference, and the logical tree it generates, are to inductive reasoning what the
syllogism is to deductive reasoning, in that it offers a regular method for reaching firm inductive
conclusions one after the other as rapidly as possible.
Molecular biology is one example used by Platt. Systematic method of inference is credited with
leading to a succession of pivotal experiments that caused the field of molecular biology to
explode . It seeks to guide future research by following a logical structure to further research and
lays a grounded foundation.

Isolation And The Machine
Under the control of the Machine, isolation and self isolation are actions that are awfully prevalent
throughout society. Each individual is confined to a singular room that delivers all mental and
physical stimulations necessary for life. Society has grown to actively avoid all forms of physical
communication that can lead to the disassembling of the isolated existence that each individual has
grown to worship under the Machine. Vashti, the mother of Kuno, is completely submerged in the
framework created by the Machine. She seeks isolation in the form of cessation from the world
outside her cell. Technological connection is seemingly the only form of communication that she
experiences with other individuals. The act of being in the presence

Parenting In American Society
Do you think or believe American society provides too much or too little quality education on the
role of parenting and how that shapes our children and generations to come?
What do you suggest as a way to resolve this issue?
I believe American society does not provide enough quality education on the nature of parenting
and the impact of development of our children and the generations ahead. In today s world we
face the challenges of being judged by the aspect of our chosen parenting style. Though we
(parents) all have our own boundaries, standards, and beliefs to the ways of how we parent, society
has us in a microscope ready to scull anyone (with judgement) who is different and that doesn t stay

Comparing The ICTY And The International Criminal Tribunal...
At the end of the Cold War, a more widespread interest in post conflict reconstruction was becoming
more prevalent. The main components of this interest during the post reconciliation period were
accountability and reconciliation. To facilitate this in two different post conflict environments, two
respective tribunals were established. These tribunals were known as the ICTY (The International
Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, est.1993) and ICTR (International Criminal Tribunal
for Rwanda, est.1994) . The ICTY was formed to address the conflict in former Yugoslavia. The
situation started when two of the six republics of Yugoslavia, Slovenia and Croatia, declared their
independence after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This sparked a lengthy and lethal conflict within the
territory. The atrocities that allegedly had been committed included but were not limited to, genocide
, rape, and enslavement. Many of the victims were civilians. Because of this the ICTY was created
during the war as an international criminal courtthat applied humanitarian law. It s purpose was to
gather information, create an account of events, and prosecute those responsible for committing
crimes .
The ICTY is considered the first international court. Since it was the first of it s kind, the court was
not without controversy. From the beginning, the method of establishing the tribunal was up for
debate. The ICTY did not have the legal authority to establish itself. Some states wanted a treaty to

My decision to pursue undergraduate degree in the United States was received with a lot of
skepticism by my family members. Because a career in chemistry is unfortunately not considered
as rewarding as compared to careers in medicine or business. Successful chemists are not very heard

Governmental Agencies and Terrorism
After the 9/11 attacks the word terrorism became etched in the worlds vocabulary. The word
Terrorism immediately brings up images of bombings and hooded figures making demands on a
home video. But when organizations tasked with defending against the treat of terrorism, begin to
shape their operations, it also shape tire definition. The gathering and analysis of intelligence is the
driving force in the Central Intelligence agency (CIA). So much so that it s right in the name. So
when the CIA begins working on the definition of terrorism, it uses that mission as a driving facture.
The CIA describes terrorism as premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against
noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents (n.d., para. 6). This is a simple
characterization because this is exactly what they are looking for. That part of the description
illustrates the specific types of acts the organizations looking to prevent. Because of its mission it
also adds the definition of international terrorism as terrorism involving the territory or the citizens
of more than one country and terrorist groups as, any group that practices, or has significant
subgroups that practice, international terrorism (n.d., para. 6). These add ons highlight the scope of
the organization. Unlike the FBI s definition that has heaver legal implications or the State
departments which is used for political purposes, the CIA uses its definition to focus its operations.

Formalism And Realism In Film
Short Critical Essay #3 Option 2 Classical film theories are generally divided into two main
camps. They have been categorized as Formalism and Realism. The formalist approach looks at
the structure and form of the film. It analyzes the method by which the story materializes and how
it forces the viewer to react based on the way it is presented. It incorporates character development,
photographic composition, camera movement, set design, editing, etc. to that end. The realist
approach scrutinizes how a film represents reality. It is a mechanical reproduction of reality that
strives for objectivity and realism. The primary focus is always every day, true to life characters
and dilemmas, and the real life situations they are found in. Commonplace themes are the rule. To
achieve realism in cinema it was necessary to direct attention to the physical and philosophic
problems of ordinary existence. People emerge as victims of forces beyond their control in a world
at times seemingly spinning out of control. Although there are also a few similarities, formalism
and realism can be shown to offer substantially different approaches to the art of filmmaking and the
study of film. Realism is a style of filmmaking that attempts to duplicate the look of objective reality
with emphasis on authentic locations and details, long shots, lengthy takes, and a minimum of
distortion. Andre Bazin championed cinematic realism. He identifies Realism as a movement of
filmmakers who put their

There is no need to have large number of SMP servers. It efficiently uses the idle resources. If
there is any failure in one grid ,the grid environment automatically uses the other resources. Easy

computing requires an advanced infrastructure like small servers, fast connections between the

Wes Anderson s The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson s The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), is a narrative that takes the form of many
stories within another. Considered a film masterpiece not only for its use of thoughtful comedy but
also for the way in which the film was enhanced through the use of camera angles. Love and death,
romance and horror, comedyand tragedy duel to an elegant draw in Wes Anderson s rich torte of a
movie , as stated by Richard Corliss from Time Magazine. The constant use of straight angles gives
the filman unmistakably elegant quality. Cinematographically, this film was created with great
precision, making it feel more like a theater performance rather than a film. The use of thoughtful
and quirky humor truly brings this picture to life, making The Grand Budapest Hotel truly grand.
The use of thoughtful comedy throughout serves several purposes. The characters are an example
of this, through their representations they are able to create specific correlations that are key to the
film overall. It is through their mannerisms and quirky, thoughtful humor that the characters are
brought to life. This film allocates the use of cameraangles thus allowing it an elegant feature,
while humor is used to create a ...real, funny, sad movie whose performances are as alert and
finely composed as the dГ©cor . Richard Corliss, from Time Magazine, states that the film is a

Complications Of The Sweet Potato
AG The sweet potato led to the death of well over a million people. Now, the sweet potato did not
directly kill all these people, but it did contribute to those deaths. On the other hand, the sweet
potato also saved many lives for the Chinese population. The sweet potato among other new world
crops were over monocropped. This meant that they were singularly planted, this drained the
nutrients from the soil. The sweet potatowas the most popular crop coming from the New World
because corn competed with rice. The sweet could be planted almost anywhere. It also led to
deforestation. The problem is significant because the deforestation made the floods even more
popular. Which caused hundreds of floods. The floods led to the death of millions of people.
When the floods occurred they took away crops, soil, and nutrients in the soil. The best solution is
to stop monocropping and plant a diverse amount of crops in the area each year. Another great
solution is to continue planting more trees.
1 The introduction of the sweet potato had effects on the Chinese environment. 2 The sweet potato
was introduced to China from the Philippines by ships that were crossing the Atlantic, around the
1580s. The sweet potato likely came from the Central or South Americas. It was also monocropped
by the Chinese. The sweet potato came to China in a very important time. At the time, China had a

West Side Story Essay
West Side Story
1. Point out how the general setting of the play is established.
Give at least two examples.
The play West Side Story takes place in a suburb on the West Side of
New York City. We can conclude that we are talking about a socially disadvantaged suburb as the
surrounding area is described with high brick walls, not very attractive and by the presence of the
two gangs
the Jets and the Sharks.
We are also able to say in which time period the actions take place.
As an indicator we are using the dance at the gym in Act I,Scene 4, where Tony and Mariafirst
meet. At this dance everyone is dancing the jitterbug just as the jive. Both were popular during the
1940`s and
1950`s.
We should also mention that it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second group we meet is the Sharks. They are all immigrants from
Puerto Rico who all came to find a better life. They feel especially disadvantaged and believe this is
due to their place of birth.
Bernardo, who is the leader of the Sharks and Maria`s older brother seems to be in control of
everything. It also appears as if he is more dominant than his parents possibly because they are, just
like he is, immigrants but less adapted to the new situation.
Both groups are struggling for survival in the streets and their social lives. Certain similarities can
be found even though they would never admit to these.
Many of the above mentioned aspects are typical prejudices and therefore named as typical features
of the society (in this case the society consists of the Jets and the Sharks).

3. Examine the primary desires/hopes/agonies terrors of one of the main characters and compare
them with those of Gatsby.
One of the protagonists of West Side Story is Tony. We learn that Tony is one of the founders of
the Jets. No matter what he might have had in the gang in the past he left his buddies some time
ago. What is important is that even though he no longer appears to be an active member of the
Jets he still is accepted and what is even more respected by the other members. His presence is
important for them at the dance, as well is his decision concerning the rumble.

Sunday Night Football Advertisement Analysis
When I was on the high school speech team, it seemed that I could not go to a round of
persuasive speaking without hearing a speech about participation awards. Each and every one
of them was against giving awards purely for participation. They reflected a belief that is quite
common where I am from. In Northeast Nebraska, there are a lot of families who work very hard
and still do not have a lot, where most people believe in getting rewarded for hard work, and
nothing else. A couple of weekends ago, I was watching Sunday Night Footballwhen I saw an
advertisement by Kia Motors that reminded me of the attitudes I had come into contact with
growing up.
The advertisement begins with a father and his son walking towards their car. The son is
wearing a football uniform and is carrying a trophy. His father asks him if he can see the trophy.
The son hands his father the trophy, which reads Participant. We see the father instantly look
upset, and then we hear his thoughts, Participation trophy? But we, we won every game. Why do
we get the same trophy as all those teams we d beaten? Are we gonna start ending games with
hugs instead of handshakes? He begins repeating the word no over and over again as he breaks off
the engraving that says Participant and then he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

built for football families. It is appealing not to families from my area who value hard work, but
to sports families like mine who have experienced great joy in winning, and great agony in losing.

James Bond s 1964 Aston Martin DB5. It is the classic car best known for representation in
movies and is recognizable across the world of vehicle enthusiasts. It has left its mark on history.
The same can be said for the Mercedes 1957 300SL Gullwing, a production car that was one of the
fastest and most eye catching vehicles of its time. Indeed, these types of classic cars are from a
bygone era.
Today, they are auctioned off for millions of dollars and stand as a heritage of a different period.
However, they are not alone in this mission. There are hundreds if not thousands of cars that can
be considered classic, with many being far less cumbersome on a bank account to own. In fact,
ones like Austin s 1961 Mini Cooper S, for instance, are miniaturized versions of some of their
bigger brothers. The Mini has served as an ever growing symbol of the classic car era, with over
5,000,000 international sales of its iterated versions.
Whether you are interested in the loud V12s and beautiful aesthetics, or the more compact and
purposeful classic cars, the bottom line is that by investing in a classic car, you are investing in a
slice of history and in a slice of art. While today there has become a culture of upgrading and
tuning more widely available and cheap production cars, there is still that pure hearted, nostalgic
interest in the art of old. Yet, the goal amongst these two different groups is the same: they are there

Patriotism In The United States
What is patriotism? Patriotism is the love that people feel for their country. A few examples of
patriotism are: 1. When we stand up for the pledge in the mornings. 2. When we stand up for the
National Anthem . Those are both examples of patriotism. America is a free country, so people
should be able to practice patriotismif they want to, but if they don t want to they shouldn t have to.
If someone wants to express them and their country they should be patriotic. But if they would
much rather not say anything they shouldn t have to. I do personally believe they should at least
stand during the pledge and put their hand on their heart. They don t necessarily have to say the
pledge but they do need to be the least disrespectful by

Analysis Of Ruination And Drosscape
Ruination and Drosscape
Ruination is a recurring theme through the creative field; primarily in art, art theory and poetry.
There is a grand human reaction to ruin that transcends this word into a conceptual state. It is a
concept that artists have had an abiding interest in, which has in turn led the conception of the
modern ruin. My uncoverage of this concept has been through a multitude of resources whilst
researching for my own artistic practise. Art theorists and artists have thematically looked to ruin as
an aid to understand human nature and the ways in which we cope with the rapidly developing
world around us through a sentimentality for what is past and lost. There is a need to discern this
reaction to ruin and to simultaneously validate it. Ruins hold a curious charm that is produced by
the coinciding state of decay and regeneration, which oscillate randomly and chaotically. Ruins
draw people in and inspire creation. Similarly, art necessarily develops from the past s foundation,
the neglected; without a break, and wherever it may end up, reference to the past remains. Ruin
provokes nostalgia for the aesthetic forms and iconography of the former, resulting in an ongoing
phenomenon that recycles and regenerates in art and art theory.
In Allan Smith s Essay Entropic steps: Rocks, ruins, and increase in John Ruskin, Robert Smithson,
and Per Kirkeby, he triangulates the writings of Ruskin, Smithson and Kirkeby, in order to show a
breadth of reaction to ruin (primarily

Preparing parents for the aggressive, anti social, and/or disobedient behavior of children would
lessen the likelihood of emotionally driven disciplinary actions by parents (which often lead to
abusive actions) (Rosenberg, 41). Focusing on the parents, however, is not the only interventional
strategy that physicians can employ. At each doctor visit children should be emotionally
evaluated. Studies show that child abuse is often accompanied by language disorders, lower
intelligence, and deficits in emotional and social development (Newberger, 51). Physicians who
focus on these aspects of a child might be given a clue as to the environment in which a child is
being raised and can inquire further if he/she has suspicions of child abuse (Newberger, 71).
Finally, at each visit, physicians should review with the child what is considered good and bad
touching and who they can turn to if they feel they have been touched in a bad way (Kaplan, 125).
The idea of these techniques is to provide the child with the knowledge he/she needs to avoid
abusive situations. Furthermore, the knowledge imparted by the physician to the parents allows the
parents to avoid creating an abusive environment at home. The ultimate goal of decreasing the
prevalence of child abuse is not only to provide safe homes for children, but also to lessen the
violent tendencies that these children are more likely to

Marion was given the rank of first lieutenant in Captain William Moultrie s company of infantry.
In June, Grant led his expedition on the same route Montgomerie had taken. Sensing another
ambush at a pass near the site of Montgomerie s battle, Grant dispatched Marion with 30 men to
flush out the Cherokees. Using trees for cover, Marion s detachment cautiously advanced within
range of the Cherokees, whereupon the Indians sounded their war cry and fired. By the time the
pass was secured, only nine of Marion s men were left. Grant s column proceeded through the pass
and engaged the Cherokees for several hours, until the Indians fled. Marion s capture of the pass
allowed Grant to create a path of destruction in the Cherokee lands, burning 15 Indian towns and
destroying their corn crops. Finally, Chief Attakullakulla, known by some as Little Carpenter,
surrendered.
Marion s courageous efforts in the Cherokee War did not go unnoticed. When he returned to his
old lifestyle by leasing farm lands along the west bank of the Santee River, he was accorded great
respect and became a successful planter. Although he spent considerable time hunting and fishing,
he was well acquainted with details of the surrounding lands. He also had an active social life and
regularly visited his brothers and neighboring Huguenot families. During this prosperous time, he
attained a sizable degree of wealth. In 1773,

Optimal Dh And Temperature Conditions Lab Report
Optimal pH and Temperature Conditions Comparative studies show that the optimum pH of
LDH from rabbit muscle ranges from pH 6.2 to 7.8 [6]. A pH rate profile graph in a study by
Fritz [6] reflects the results obtained in Figure 1, where the optimum pH was found to be 7.5 for
LDH extracted from rabbit muscle. This is further supported by the optimal pH of rabbit muscle
LDH obtained by another study [7], in which the pH is determined to be 7.5. Thus the results
obtained in Figure 1 fall consistent with literature values. In a study by Buhl et al., the optimal
temperature of LDH from skeletal muscle of aa human was 37oC[4], suggesting that denaturation

The low Vmax could be due to an incomplete reaction. However, despite the large difference in
Vmax between experimental and literature values, Figure 3 reflects similar data obtained in
similar studies [9]. Michaelis Menten graphs depicted by Figure 4 and Figure 5 show that all
concentrations of oxalic acid (0M, 0.01M and 0.03M) and oxamic acid (0M, 0.0200M and
0.0600M) ) seemingly saturate at the highest lactate concentration which was 95mM. In both
figures, LDH saturates the fastest in the absence of inhibitors, followed by 0.01M oxalic acid
and 0.0200M oxamic acid, and 0.03M oxalic acid and 0.0600M oxamic acid having the slowest
reaction rate respectively shown in Figure 4 and Figure 5. These results reflect the Michaelis
Menten graphs reproduced by experiments under similar conditions as explained by Powers et

Neuropeptides
Neuropeptides are synthesized in the soma, the cell body of the neuron. These neuropeptides are
along with specific enzymes packed into vesicles in the Golgi apparatus. In these vesicles the
neuropeptides are transported along microtubules in the axon towards the nerve terminal. During
the course of this transportation the neuropeptides, who at this stage is only precursors of the
actual neuropeptides, are modified by the enzymes into their actual neuropeptide form. The
vesicles in which the neuropeptides are stored in once they arrive to the nerve terminal are called
large dense core vesicles.
These vesicles will release the neuropeptides as a response to large stimuli, meaning stimuli which
give rise to many action potentials. The site of release is closer to the axon than the synapse and the
neuropeptides then have to diffuse toward the synaptic cleft and the ... Show more content on

The classical transmitters are instead synthesized in the axon terminal while it is only the enzymes
necessary for their synthesis that are produced in the soma and transported along the axon. These
enzymes then act on precursor peptides, which are recycled versions of the neurotransmitter, to
produce the neurotransmitter. The neurotransmitter is then packed and stored in small clear core
vesicles. Upon release the classical neurotransmitter bind to both GPCRs and ligand dependent ion
channels. Therefore only the classical transmitters, and not the neuropeptides, can give rise to
excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP) and inhibitory postsynaptic potential (IPSP). As the
neurotransmitter is already in the nerve terminal and is later released directly into the synaptic cleft,
the signalling is faster than that of the neuropeptides. Classical neurotransmitters can also be
released as a response to smaller stimuli, with only a few action potentials, while neuropeptides
require stronger stimuli for

Lean And Lean Case Study
The basic concepts involved in lean and lean manufacturing was originated from The Toyota, one
of the Japanese automaker in the global competition since decades. In 1988, Taiichi Ohno brought
the lean concept into operation for the first time at Toyota and called it as Toyota Production
System (TPS), to overcome economic crisis due to World War II. TPS was mainly developed to
flourish with minimum resources. Owing to the immense shortages of material, human and
financial resources, TPS had no other option but to choose the waste reduction policy to cut down
the costs at the shop floor. Even in the hard economic crisis, Toyota sustained and was successful
because of its higher efficiency in operation and improved production system. In the meantime,
inadequacy of the resources which was at first an obstacle to the company transformed into an
opportunity to establish Toyota as a world class car manufacturer. Lean approach was slowly
applied in many manufacturing and management floors over the last few decades.... Show more

Ultimately, by progressively improving manufacturing processes through the exclusion of waste,
higher value is generated for the customer as the quality is improved and costs are decreased. These
principles include: Pull processing, continuous improvement, waste elimination, flexibility, perfect
quality, Load levelling, cultivating long term relationship with suppliers, Automation, Production
flow and Visual control. Lean manufacturingalso emphasizes on elimination of the seven kinds of
wastes from the production activities, these wastes includes transportation or conveyance wastes,
overproduction, incorrect processing, excess motion, waiting, inventory, wastes due to defects.
Thus today s Toyota is a result of need impelled learning to overcome the issues within its own
production

Mayan Facts
The end of the human race will be that it will eventually die of civilization (Ralph waldo Emerson).
The Mayans were a complex society that made great advances in mathematics, science, writing, art,
architecture and engineering. Their ability to wage war, vast knowledge of the cosmos, they had a
keen ability to adapt to an ever changing environments; was something the Maya were known for.
They inhabited continually the land composing modern day Yucatan, Quintana roo, campace
Tabasco an Chiapas Mexico. The early Maya date around 1800 bc in what is known as the pre
classic period. The Mayan civilization which came to be around 1100 b.c.e and collapsed between

In the movie jaguar paw, lives in an idyllic hunting village set deep in the jungle. During the
classical times the Maya were an agricultural people; not necessarily hunter gatherers. As stated
in chap 8 Cultivators built villages made pottery and planted milpas, or fields where maize,
beans, manioc, avocados, and other crops grew side by side (American complexities, pg230) .
They did not hunt often however game was a small percentage of the diet. They are portrayed as
hunter gatherers however this is not historically accurate to the classical period. At the end of
the movie u can see what looks like the Spanish arriving. In terms of having historical accuracy
the arrival of the Spanish is kind of a problem. The Spanish arrival did not occur until long after
the classic Maya collapse in Mexico as the text explains the Mayan collapse occurred between
800 1200 c.e. (American complexities ch8, pg 230). So we are looking at a four hundred year
odd difference in both architectural style and history. This movie seems to be mixing different
periods of time. This classic find of kingship ended around 900 A.D. this movie personally after
reading the text and researching its historical perspective is not a useful tool to accurately teach or

Three Religious Paintings
In this project I will compare the setting of three religious paintings. One set involves the interior
of fifteenth century architect, another located in a natural landscape, and one with a heavenly
backdrop. This expository paper will reveal how these different locations affect a viewer s
spiritual experience, and decipher whether or not these environments are generic, symbolic, or
specific. The artwork titled Painting of Ghent Altarpiece in Chapel, located in Rijksmuseum,
Amsterdam, was created by Jan van Eyck (Davies et al. 482). The scale and setting of this
painting is unmistakably impressive. The purpose of the altarpiece is to clarify the ceremony
performed before it (482). Jan work is big in scale and thorough with detail and color that glows
(482). This environment is a generic place, although it is a holy place, it is also very common as
chapels can be found in virtually every church. The fifteenth century landscape calendar page
Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry was created by the Limbourg Brothers in France (Davies et
al. 474). In this panel, the month of July is illustrated, as is the passage of time in many ways
(474). The dome shape at the top of the seasonal training marks the days of the week numerally
along with the astrological signs for the month (474). Below the... Show more content on

It shows heaven on earth on the first and second panel. Different scholars have studied The
Garden of Earthly Delights and its various aspects in attempt to determine its meaning (491).
Although none can come to a concrete conclusion, this oil painting is more symbolic, as it is
said to have numerous visual references to verbal puns and proverbs (493). Also the date of
creation for The Garden of Earthly Delights is up for debate because Bosch never dated his pieces

Essay on Critical Issue on Psychological Debriefing
Critical Issue on Psychological Debriefing
Two facts presented by Mitchell of the critical issue (Mitchell, 1983).
The CISD protocol that Mitchell described was a group process of seven distinct phases. Prior to
this Mitchell used a six stage model (Mitchell, 1983).
The Society working party on psychological debriefing was given the aim of evaluating the
available information and opinions and producing a clear statement on the status of psychological
debriefing (Mitchell, 1983)
Two facts presented by Devilly and Cotton on Critical issue Cotton and Devilly, (2003):
Psychological debriefing is a technique employed by social workers, clinicians, etc in which
victims are encouraged to relive traumatic experiences and are warned of ... Show more content on

It was said from the studies they all failed because they did not demonstrate a clear benefit of
debriefing (McNally et al., 2003), with intervention groups and control groups reporting equivalent
posttraumatic symptoms.
Psychological debriefing responded to these results by claiming there is only one component of a
comprehensive approach to crisis management and it is meaningless to evaluate the effectiveness of
this one component as a singular intervention strategy (McNally et al., 2003). The heart of this
debate is the issue of whether psychological debriefing might be a waste of resources (Brewin,
2001; McNally, 2004). Mitchell has been shown to be credible because of the seven steps he
believes to be workable. In 1983, he introduced Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). The
model he developed was designed to prevent and manage the horror resulting from traumatic stress,
and reduce the casualties among emergency service personnel. Mitchell model poses the below
seven unique phases, which are integrated with stress education and information throughout the
process.
Introductory phase (rules and process explained).
Fact phase (what they saw, heard, smelled, touched and did).
Thought phase (first thoughts).
Feeling phase (emotional reaction).
Assessment phase (physical or psychological symptoms).
Education phase (stress response syndrome).
Re entry phase (referral information), (Kenardy et al., 1996, pg 38)

the spirituality. The emptiness is meant to invade the occupant so there is room for the spiritual to

The Influence Of The Hubble Telescope
Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure
science. This remark was by Edwin Hubble, the man that the Hubble telescope was named after.
The telescope made many amazing discoveries in the field of astronomy, as well as the man
himself did. It was said that Edwin Hubblerevolutionized the field of astrophysics. Biography.com
states, His research helped prove that the universe is expanding and he created a classification
system for galaxies that has been used for several decades. He made many contributions to science,
as did the Hubble telescope, and that is why this invention is one of the greatest in the history of
science. Biography.com cites that Edwin Hubble was born on November 20th,... Show more content

It also proves that because of the new things we have found out, we can begin to look even
deeper to uncover more of the unknown about our universe. By the Hubble Telescope getting
images of the Butterfly Nebula, we can truly see how stars are formed. This helps support the
theory of the Nebular Hypothesis because now that we have images of a nebula and how stars
form from it, we can prove that that was the way our star, the Sun, was formed. The discovery of
dark matter helps us realize how much mass there truly is in the universe and can help us
determine the future of the universe. Hubble discovering the age of the universe helps us to date
when certain events have occurred and have an understanding of how long it took for it to form. It
has also proved the Big Bang Theory because it discovered distant galaxies using redshift and
shows how the universe came from a small area and started expanding, which is still continuing
today. Overall, Hubble s discoveries have opened up the door to many more

  • 2. Weather In Moulin Rouge How does Baz Luhrmann use the weather to portray distress in the protagonists lives in the films Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge with the help of camera angles? The manipulation of the weather is a concept that features in both Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge. In both of these films, it is used to show distress and the death of one or both of the protagonists. This concept of distress and/or death will be explored. For the film Romeo and Juliet, sequence will be used where Romeo kills Tybalt and sequence will be used, where Romeo is banished because of him murdering Tybalt. For Moulin Rouge, I will be exploring sequence , where Christian is thrown out of the Moulin Rouge on to the street, as well as the closing sequence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is similar to sequence of Romeo and Juliet where Romeo is banished from the town that he once lived in. In both films there is rain in both of these sequences, showing that Romeo and Christian are now at their lowest points in their lives, being rejected from places they love and the people who they have grown fond of, and fallen in love with. In Moulin Rouge Christian is full of sadness and anger from being thrown out on the streets. The camera angle of Christian in this sequence is different from that of Romeo in sequence of Romeo and Juliet. We see Christian in an eye level shot as he lies on the floor in the rain possibly showing, cinematically that he has hit rock bottom in his life. In the closing scene of Moulin Rouge we find Satine slowly dying in Christians arms. The camera angle that Baz Luhrmann decides to use is a birds eye view shot (or in other words an extreme high angle shot) which shows just how powerless Christian is in this situation. This shows that Christian s emotions are just of complete and utter surprise and of course sadness. At the end of this scene we see that it is in fact snowing, showing and emphasising Satine s words to Christian that she is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Smoking Meat In Early America Smoking meat was also a way of preserving it. To smoke meat it was first salted or soaked in brine and then hung in a smoke house to slowly dry. The smoke house required a smoky fire under the meat for days to weeks. Smoking meat took time and care to do. Potting was another storage form that allowed meat to be stored for a year. Meat from a cow or pig would be put into a big kettle and boiled over a fire while the fat would be melted in a spider, a skillet with skinny legs that was used over fire. The fat was melted in the spider until it became a liquid. The meat, once boiled for hours, was cooled and then placed in a crock. Planting, gathering, hunting, and preparing food took a large part of the colonists day. The need for the colonists to make and use special kitchen tools and adapt to using natural food sources available and learn to store them for winter was imperative to their survival. Knowing how the colonists were able to use the things they had explains many of the foods we still eat today and how we prepare them. The equipment used, like the lug pole which the colonist improved upon and made an iron swing arm, is an example of the colonists adapting to the new world. The design of the pots and kettles with legs to help cook the food without burning was also important. To make cooking safer they also had long handles on pots and kettles. Finding fresh ingredients and crops that they could renew was a necessary part of the colonists survival as well. To figure out what was edible and how to prepare it, the colonists looked to the Native Americans. The colonial cook had to substitute many ingredients like wheat flour with corn flour, and learn new ingredients like corn, pumpkin, beans, and cranberries. Having these fruits and vegetables fresh was great, but to survive the colonists needed to preserve and store food for the winters. They once again looked to the Native Americans for advice. Many different techniques were used including drying, salting, brining, potting, and jellying. America of today and American foods like corn, popcorn, cornbread, baked beans, cranberry juice, and pumpkin pie are all handed down to us thanks to the Native Americans and the early colonists. • 4. New Belgium Brewing Company Case Study The New Belgium Brewing Company (NBB) started out as a small beer brewing concept in 1991, brewing beers out of their basement. Once they determined they had a product that could be marketable, they opened their first brewery in Ft. Collins Colorado and have been growing ever since, becoming the third largest craft brewer in the country (New Belgium BrewingCompany, 2014). But just as any business there is always competition and consumer opinion which allows a business to continue to develop and grow within their market. Competition in the microbrew arena has grown over the last decade and according to the Boulder, Colorado based Brewers Association, the number of microbreweries has surged in the past five years 73% nationally (Olson, 2014). For the New Belgium Brewing Company, they have used their competitive advantage to continue to grow their business in a market that shows heavy increases of new competition. For the duration of this time period, the American dream was no longer about hard work and reaching a set goal, it had become materialistic and immoral. Many people that had honest and incorruptible dreams, such as Jay Gatsby, used corrupted pathways to realize their fantasy. People s carelessness was shown through their actions and speech towards others. Everyone knows the stories of the spirits of the dead coming back to haunt the living, but those stories are nothing compared to the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Stories like Ligeia, The Black Cat, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Raven all are chilling and thrilling stories evolved stories of any other horror or gothic story. In these works, the dead have a profound power of the sanity of the living. • 7. Describe Platt s Methods Of Strong Inference Case Study Questions and Responses 1) Describe Platt s methods of strong inference. How does this method guide research programmes in terms of accuracy of conclusions, efficiency of resources and utility of planning for future research? Platt s methods of strong inference are post positivism. He asserts that counter productivity can occur when a single theory is adhered to and attachment occurs. The single theory method lacks efficiency and can be subject to confirmation bias. Strong inference is the method Platt encourages and proposes. Alternate hypotheses are a foundational part of strong inference. When creating an important experiment with the possibility of differing and alternative outcomes, each of which will, as nearly as possible, exclude one or more of the hypotheses . Furthermore, Platt proposes to run the experiment to get a clean result . Lastly, Recycling the procedure, making sub hypotheses or sequential hypotheses to refine the possibilities that remain, and so on . This type of research leads to improved accuracy of conclusions due to the nature of not depending on one hypothesis or the attachment to a single theory. Resources are efficiently used due to the logical progression of strong inference and the rapid nature conclusions. Platt states, It is clear why this makes for rapid and powerful progress. For exploring the unknown, there is no faster method; this is the minimum sequence of steps. Any conclusion that is not an exclusion is insecure and must be rechecked. Any delay in recycling to the next set of hypotheses is only a delay. Strong inference, and the logical tree it generates, are to inductive reasoning what the syllogism is to deductive reasoning, in that it offers a regular method for reaching firm inductive conclusions one after the other as rapidly as possible. Molecular biology is one example used by Platt. Systematic method of inference is credited with leading to a succession of pivotal experiments that caused the field of molecular biology to explode . It seeks to guide future research by following a logical structure to further research and lays a grounded foundation. • 10. Comparing The ICTY And The International Criminal Tribunal... At the end of the Cold War, a more widespread interest in post conflict reconstruction was becoming more prevalent. The main components of this interest during the post reconciliation period were accountability and reconciliation. To facilitate this in two different post conflict environments, two respective tribunals were established. These tribunals were known as the ICTY (The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, est.1993) and ICTR (International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, est.1994) . The ICTY was formed to address the conflict in former Yugoslavia. The situation started when two of the six republics of Yugoslavia, Slovenia and Croatia, declared their independence after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This sparked a lengthy and lethal conflict within the territory. The atrocities that allegedly had been committed included but were not limited to, genocide , rape, and enslavement. Many of the victims were civilians. Because of this the ICTY was created during the war as an international criminal courtthat applied humanitarian law. It s purpose was to gather information, create an account of events, and prosecute those responsible for committing crimes . The ICTY is considered the first international court. Since it was the first of it s kind, the court was not without controversy. From the beginning, the method of establishing the tribunal was up for debate. • 14. Formalism And Realism In Film Short Critical Essay #3 Option 2 Classical film theories are generally divided into two main camps. They have been categorized as Formalism and Realism. The formalist approach looks at the structure and form of the film. It analyzes the method by which the story materializes and how it forces the viewer to react based on the way it is presented. It incorporates character development, photographic composition, camera movement, set design, editing, etc. to that end. The realist approach scrutinizes how a film represents reality. It is a mechanical reproduction of reality that strives for objectivity and realism. The primary focus is always every day, true to life characters and dilemmas, and the real life situations they are found in. Commonplace themes are the rule. To achieve realism in cinema it was necessary to direct attention to the physical and philosophic problems of ordinary existence. People emerge as victims of forces beyond their control in a world at times seemingly spinning out of control. Although there are also a few similarities, formalism and realism can be shown to offer substantially different approaches to the art of filmmaking and the study of film. Realism is a style of filmmaking that attempts to duplicate the look of objective reality with emphasis on authentic locations and details, long shots, lengthy takes, and a minimum of distortion. Andre Bazin championed cinematic realism. He identifies Realism as a movement of filmmakers who put their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now, the sweet potato did not directly kill all these people, but it did contribute to those deaths. On the other hand, the sweet potato also saved many lives for the Chinese population. The sweet potato among other new world crops were over monocropped. This meant that they were singularly planted, this drained the nutrients from the soil. The sweet potatowas the most popular crop coming from the New World because corn competed with rice. The sweet could be planted almost anywhere. It also led to deforestation. The problem is significant because the deforestation made the floods even more popular. Which caused hundreds of floods. The floods led to the death of millions of people. When the floods occurred they took away crops, soil, and nutrients in the soil. The best solution is to stop monocropping and plant a diverse amount of crops in the area each year. Another great solution is to continue planting more trees. 1 The introduction of the sweet potato had effects on the Chinese environment. 2 The sweet potato was introduced to China from the Philippines by ships that were crossing the Atlantic, around the 1580s. The sweet potato likely came from the Central or South Americas. It was also monocropped by the Chinese. The sweet potato came to China in a very important time. The play West Side Story takes place in a suburb on the West Side of New York City. We can conclude that we are talking about a socially disadvantaged suburb as the surrounding area is described with high brick walls, not very attractive and by the presence of the two gangs the Jets and the Sharks. We are also able to say in which time period the actions take place. As an indicator we are using the dance at the gym in Act I,Scene 4, where Tony and Mariafirst meet. The second group we meet is the Sharks. They are all immigrants from Puerto Rico who all came to find a better life. They feel especially disadvantaged and believe this is due to their place of birth. Bernardo, who is the leader of the Sharks and Maria`s older brother seems to be in control of everything. It also appears as if he is more dominant than his parents possibly because they are, just like he is, immigrants but less adapted to the new situation. Both groups are struggling for survival in the streets and their social lives. Certain similarities can be found even though they would never admit to these. Many of the above mentioned aspects are typical prejudices and therefore named as typical features of the society (in this case the society consists of the Jets and the Sharks). ( 302 ) 3. Examine the primary desires/hopes/agonies terrors of one of the main characters and compare them with those of Gatsby. One of the protagonists of West Side Story is Tony. We learn that Tony is one of the founders of the Jets. No matter what he might have had in the gang in the past he left his buddies some time ago. What is important is that even though he no longer appears to be an active member of the Jets he still is accepted and what is even more respected by the other members. His presence is important for them at the dance, as well is his decision concerning the rumble.

Sunday Night Football Advertisement Analysis When I was on the high school speech team, it seemed that I could not go to a round of persuasive speaking without hearing a speech about participation awards. Each and every one of them was against giving awards purely for participation. They reflected a belief that is quite common where I am from. In Northeast Nebraska, there are a lot of families who work very hard and still do not have a lot, where most people believe in getting rewarded for hard work, and nothing else. A couple of weekends ago, I was watching Sunday Night Footballwhen I saw an advertisement by Kia Motors that reminded me of the attitudes I had come into contact with growing up. The advertisement begins with a father and his son walking towards their car. The son is wearing a football uniform and is carrying a trophy. His father asks him if he can see the trophy. The son hands his father the trophy, which reads Participant. We see the father instantly look upset, and then we hear his thoughts, Participation trophy? But we, we won every game. It is the classic car best known for representation in movies and is recognizable across the world of vehicle enthusiasts. It has left its mark on history. The same can be said for the Mercedes 1957 300SL Gullwing, a production car that was one of the fastest and most eye catching vehicles of its time. Indeed, these types of classic cars are from a bygone era. Today, they are auctioned off for millions of dollars and stand as a heritage of a different period. However, they are not alone in this mission. There are hundreds if not thousands of cars that can be considered classic, with many being far less cumbersome on a bank account to own. In fact, ones like Austin s 1961 Mini Cooper S, for instance, are miniaturized versions of some of their bigger brothers. The Mini has served as an ever growing symbol of the classic car era, with over 5,000,000 international sales of its iterated versions. Whether you are interested in the loud V12s and beautiful aesthetics, or the more compact and purposeful classic cars, the bottom line is that by investing in a classic car, you are investing in a slice of history and in a slice of art. • 31. Analysis Of Ruination And Drosscape Ruination and Drosscape Ruination is a recurring theme through the creative field; primarily in art, art theory and poetry. There is a grand human reaction to ruin that transcends this word into a conceptual state. It is a concept that artists have had an abiding interest in, which has in turn led the conception of the modern ruin. My uncoverage of this concept has been through a multitude of resources whilst researching for my own artistic practise. Art theorists and artists have thematically looked to ruin as an aid to understand human nature and the ways in which we cope with the rapidly developing world around us through a sentimentality for what is past and lost. There is a need to discern this reaction to ruin and to simultaneously validate it. Ruins hold a curious charm that is produced by the coinciding state of decay and regeneration, which oscillate randomly and chaotically. Ruins draw people in and inspire creation. Similarly, art necessarily develops from the past s foundation, the neglected; without a break, and wherever it may end up, reference to the past remains. Ruin provokes nostalgia for the aesthetic forms and iconography of the former, resulting in an ongoing phenomenon that recycles and regenerates in art and art theory. In Allan Smith s Essay Entropic steps: Rocks, ruins, and increase in John Ruskin, Robert Smithson, and Per Kirkeby, he triangulates the writings of Ruskin, Smithson and Kirkeby, in order to show a breadth of reaction to ruin (primarily ... Preparing parents for the aggressive, anti social, and/or disobedient behavior of children would lessen the likelihood of emotionally driven disciplinary actions by parents (which often lead to abusive actions) (Rosenberg, 41). Focusing on the parents, however, is not the only interventional strategy that physicians can employ. At each doctor visit children should be emotionally evaluated. Studies show that child abuse is often accompanied by language disorders, lower intelligence, and deficits in emotional and social development (Newberger, 51). Physicians who focus on these aspects of a child might be given a clue as to the environment in which a child is being raised and can inquire further if he/she has suspicions of child abuse (Newberger, 71). Finally, at each visit, physicians should review with the child what is considered good and bad touching and who they can turn to if they feel they have been touched in a bad way (Kaplan, 125). The idea of these techniques is to provide the child with the knowledge he/she needs to avoid abusive situations. Furthermore, the knowledge imparted by the physician to the parents allows the parents to avoid creating an abusive environment at home. The ultimate goal of decreasing the prevalence of child abuse is not only to provide safe homes for children, but also to lessen the violent tendencies that these children are more likely to ... In these vesicles the neuropeptides are transported along microtubules in the axon towards the nerve terminal. During the course of this transportation the neuropeptides, who at this stage is only precursors of the actual neuropeptides, are modified by the enzymes into their actual neuropeptide form. The vesicles in which the neuropeptides are stored in once they arrive to the nerve terminal are called large dense core vesicles. The classical transmitters are instead synthesized in the axon terminal while it is only the enzymes necessary for their synthesis that are produced in the soma and transported along the axon. The neurotransmitter is then packed and stored in small clear core vesicles. Upon release the classical neurotransmitter bind to both GPCRs and ligand dependent ion channels. Therefore only the classical transmitters, and not the neuropeptides, can give rise to excitatory postsynaptic potential (EPSP) and inhibitory postsynaptic potential (IPSP). As the neurotransmitter is already in the nerve terminal and is later released directly into the synaptic cleft, the signalling is faster than that of the neuropeptides. In 1988, Taiichi Ohno brought the lean concept into operation for the first time at Toyota and called it as Toyota Production System (TPS), to overcome economic crisis due to World War II. TPS was mainly developed to flourish with minimum resources. Owing to the immense shortages of material, human and financial resources, TPS had no other option but to choose the waste reduction policy to cut down the costs at the shop floor. Even in the hard economic crisis, Toyota sustained and was successful because of its higher efficiency in operation and improved production system. During the classical times the Maya were an agricultural people; not necessarily hunter gatherers. As stated in chap 8 Cultivators built villages made pottery and planted milpas, or fields where maize, beans, manioc, avocados, and other crops grew side by side (American complexities, pg230) . They did not hunt often however game was a small percentage of the diet. They are portrayed as hunter gatherers however this is not historically accurate to the classical period. At the end of the movie u can see what looks like the Spanish arriving. In terms of having historical accuracy the arrival of the Spanish is kind of a problem. The Spanish arrival did not occur until long after the classic Maya collapse in Mexico as the text explains the Mayan collapse occurred between 800 1200 c.e. (American complexities ch8, pg 230). So we are looking at a four hundred year odd difference in both architectural style and history. This movie seems to be mixing different periods of time. This classic find of kingship ended around 900 A.D. this movie personally after reading the text and researching its historical perspective is not a useful tool to accurately teach or tool to understand ... • 46. Three Religious Paintings In this project I will compare the setting of three religious paintings. One set involves the interior of fifteenth century architect, another located in a natural landscape, and one with a heavenly backdrop. This expository paper will reveal how these different locations affect a viewer s spiritual experience, and decipher whether or not these environments are generic, symbolic, or specific. The artwork titled Painting of Ghent Altarpiece in Chapel, located in Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, was created by Jan van Eyck (Davies et al. 482). The scale and setting of this painting is unmistakably impressive. The purpose of the altarpiece is to clarify the ceremony performed before it (482). Jan work is big in scale and thorough with detail and color that glows (482). This environment is a generic place, although it is a holy place, it is also very common as chapels can be found in virtually every church. The fifteenth century landscape calendar page Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry was created by the Limbourg Brothers in France (Davies et al. 474). In this panel, the month of July is illustrated, as is the passage of time in many ways (474). The dome shape at the top of the seasonal training marks the days of the week numerally along with the astrological signs for the month (474). Below the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although none can come to a concrete conclusion, this oil painting is more symbolic, as it is said to have numerous visual references to verbal puns and proverbs (493). Also the date of creation for The Garden of Earthly Delights is up for debate because Bosch never dated his pieces (15 Things You Should Know About Bosch s The Garden of Earthly ... The CISD protocol that Mitchell described was a group process of seven distinct phases. Prior to this Mitchell used a six stage model (Mitchell, 1983). The Society working party on psychological debriefing was given the aim of evaluating the available information and opinions and producing a clear statement on the status of psychological debriefing (Mitchell, 1983) Two facts presented by Devilly and Cotton on Critical issue Cotton and Devilly, (2003): Psychological debriefing is a technique employed by social workers, clinicians, etc in which victims are encouraged to relive traumatic experiences and are warned of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was said from the studies they all failed because they did not demonstrate a clear benefit of debriefing (McNally et al., 2003), with intervention groups and control groups reporting equivalent posttraumatic symptoms. Psychological debriefing responded to these results by claiming there is only one component of a comprehensive approach to crisis management and it is meaningless to evaluate the effectiveness of this one component as a singular intervention strategy (McNally et al., 2003). The heart of this debate is the issue of whether psychological debriefing might be a waste of resources (Brewin, 2001; McNally, 2004). Mitchell has been shown to be credible because of the seven steps he believes to be workable. In 1983, he introduced Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). The model he developed was designed to prevent and manage the horror resulting from traumatic stress, and reduce the casualties among emergency service personnel. Mitchell model poses the below seven unique phases, which are integrated with stress education and information throughout the process. Introductory phase (rules and process explained). Fact phase (what they saw, heard, smelled, touched and did). Thought phase (first thoughts). Feeling phase (emotional reaction). Assessment phase (physical or psychological symptoms). Education phase (stress response syndrome). Re entry phase (referral information), (Kenardy et al., 1996, pg 38) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This remark was by Edwin Hubble, the man that the Hubble telescope was named after. The telescope made many amazing discoveries in the field of astronomy, as well as the man himself did. It was said that Edwin Hubblerevolutionized the field of astrophysics. Biography.com states, His research helped prove that the universe is expanding and he created a classification system for galaxies that has been used for several decades. He made many contributions to science, as did the Hubble telescope, and that is why this invention is one of the greatest in the history of science. It also proves that because of the new things we have found out, we can begin to look even deeper to uncover more of the unknown about our universe. By the Hubble Telescope getting images of the Butterfly Nebula, we can truly see how stars are formed. This helps support the theory of the Nebular Hypothesis because now that we have images of a nebula and how stars form from it, we can prove that that was the way our star, the Sun, was formed. The discovery of dark matter helps us realize how much mass there truly is in the universe and can help us determine the future of the universe. Hubble discovering the age of the universe helps us to date when certain events have occurred and have an understanding of how long it took for it to form. It has also proved the Big Bang Theory because it discovered distant galaxies using redshift and shows how the universe came from a small area and started expanding, which is still continuing today.
