Night Essays
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Night Essays" presents a unique set of challenges that can
make the writing process quite demanding. The subject matter itself, presumably delving into the
complexities of the night, its symbolism, or any related literary works, requires a nuanced
approach. Balancing creativity with analytical depth can be particularly tricky, as one must
navigate between the realms of imagination and scholarly analysis.
Moreover, the concept of "Night Essays" may encompass a broad range of themes, including
darkness, introspection, dreams, or even societal reflections. Pinpointing the specific angle to
explore within the overarching theme can be a daunting task. Selecting the right sources and
references to support your arguments adds an additional layer of difficulty, demanding a keen
eye for scholarly material and an understanding of how it fits into the narrative.
The challenge also lies in articulating ideas coherently and ensuring a seamless flow of thoughts
throughout the essay. Juggling between a captivating introduction, well-structured body
paragraphs, and a compelling conclusion requires a delicate balance to engage the reader while
maintaining the academic rigor expected in an essay.
Furthermore, the potential for subjective interpretation in a topic like "Night Essays" introduces
the need for a thoughtful and well-supported perspective. The writer must navigate through
various perspectives, critically evaluating each and synthesizing them into a cohesive narrative.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Night Essays" demands a combination of
creativity, analytical prowess, and meticulous research. It's a process that requires not only a deep
understanding of the subject matter but also the ability to present ideas in a clear and compelling
manner. However, with careful planning and dedication, one can successfully navigate the
challenges and produce an insightful and engaging essay.

David Jenkins Research
As the human population continues to grow exponentially, researchers like David
Jenkins, are looking into other possible food production. Jenkins proposes that eating
plants would not only be beneficial for the body, since it lowers cholesterol and
blood pressure, but it would also be more sustainable than raising meat. Jenkins
research highlights three dietary methods and he explains how these dietary methods
(especially Simian) can help us feed 9 billion in 2050. With the exponential growth in
humanpopulation, there must be an increase in livestock (meat) to support the rapid
growth. Jenkins data show that already livestock feed processing and production
heavily contributes in the emission of greenhouse gases. Jenkins proposal is that...

Jenkins comments that with 5.5kg food in and 1.0+kg feces out, 1g of bile acids
are produced. Bile acids are crucial in lowering cholesterol. The Simian diet had
1.0g/day of phytosterols, more commonly known as plant sterols, while the NCEP
Step 2 diet only had 0.3g/day. Jenkins analyzes that viscous fiber, vegetable protein,
plant sterols, and almonds, all help to lower LDL cholesterol by 5%. Along with
the NCEP Step 2 diet which reduces LDL by 10%, this would total to a 30% LDL
cholesterol reduction. The two conclusion that Jenkins brings up is that plant based
diet has a potentially useful role in the control of CHD Lipid Risk Factors as it
lowers LDL cholesterol and his second conclusion is that many small changes may
together have a significant effect on the CHD risk reduction. Just how Jenkins
analyzed that viscous fibers, vegetable protein, plant sterols, and almonds can each
lower the LDL cholesterol by 5%, all these small changes can have a significant
effect on the CHD risk
Elements of Pastiche in Wall-E, a Postmodernism Analysis
CHAPTER III
ANALYSIS
An example of postmodernism application in film is WALL E. It is an animation
movie released in 2008 by Pixar Animation Studios. The film is about a robot named
WALL E. Throughout the story, there are references or similar encounters with the
previous or past works in films. These elements are the pastiche of WALL E.
3.1 Post Apocalyptic Earth First of all, the setting of earth in WALL E is clearly a
resemblance of other post apocalypse films. 28 Days Later (2002) is one obvious
example of this. Both films take place in the post apocalyptic world and the earth is
portrayed as the abandoned planet. Also, there are clips within the films which
describe the preceding events that commence the apocalypse.

The pictures above depict the situations in which WALL E (picture 5) and R2D2
(picture 6) traveled into space by ship, although the purposes of their journey were
different. WALL E hung on the ship s panel to follow EVE, but R2D2 was in the
tube of the ship to accompany Anakin Skywalker in battling the enemies ships.
In addition, both WALL E and R2D2 are portrayed to be helping the realization of
a great cause. On one hand, WALL E plays an important role in informing the
humans that the earth is a safe place to live again. On the other hand, R2D2 helps
the other more significant characters in battling the evils. Moreover, both movies
also share another similarity which is the physical setting the story takes place.
More than half of the story of WALL E happens inside a spaceship, and this idea can
also be seen in Star Wars saga where more than one spaceship is involved in the six
movies.

A WSN is a type of wireless networks that consists of collection sensor nodes which
are tiny devices. Each sensor node of the network has different processing
capability. It may contain multiple types of memory (program, data and flash
memories), have a RF transceiver, have a power source (e.g., batteries and solar
cells), and accommodate various sensors and actuators. The nodes communicate
wirelessly and often self organize after being deployed in an ad hoc fashion [13, 14].
Optimum need of each sensornode is to maximize its own utility function. Also the
whole network requires resource assignments balance to perform in a useful and
efficient way. This chapter presents a brief survey on WSNs showing its types,
characterizing features, protocols and applications.

More specifically, a sensor is a device that responds to phenomena, such as light,
pressure, or heat, and generates a signal that can be measured or interpreted [16].
The sensor network community often defines a sensor node as a wireless device
which is small, capable of responding to one or several stimuli, processing the data
and transmitting the information over a short distance using a radio link. Sensor
nodes contain electronic circuits for minimizing power consumption [17]. Sensors are
for measuring sound, light and temperature that is typically thought. However,
sensors can measure other variables, such as vibrations or electromagnetic fields

The Jewish Religion Summary
The Jewish Question examines the criticism of Karl Marx against Bauer and his
theory on the emancipation of the Jewish people. Bauer proposes the question of the
relationship of religion to the state, examining religious prejudice and political
emancipation (p. 48). In this context, Bauer addresses the need for emancipation for
both the Jewish people and the state. Ultimately arriving at the idea that Jewish
people must choose between a political life and a religious one. However, Marx
criticizes Bauer s argument due to its failure to address the varying degrees between
political emancipation and human emancipation.
Marx s argument against Bauer and his theory of political emancipation is correlated
with the continued existence of religion.
Immanuel Kant Research Paper
Kant is the founder of philosophical criticism, which is a turning point in the history
of human thought, so that the whole development of philosophy, if not in content,
then in relation to thought, should be divided into two periods: pre critical (pre
Kantian) and post critical (post Kantian) in the following words the great Russian
Philosopher Vladimir Soloviev characterizes the significance of Kant s philosophy.
Who is Immanuel Kant? Immanuel Kant is the founder of German classical
philosophy and one of the largest directions in modern legal theory. Professor of the
University of Konigsberg, Immanuel Kant, was first in German who initiated a
systematic substantiation of liberalism. Kant s doctrine formed in the early 70 s of

Many philosophers around the world have studied Kant s philosophy for years.
Many of them were deeply influenced by his concepts and became so say Kantians
(John Rawls, Ronald Dworkin etc.). There is also a notion of Kantianism which
refers to a philosophical school based on Kant s writings and the philosophies that
have arisen from the subsequent study of his writings.
Professor of law Ian Ward in his work Introduction to Critical Legal Theory
emphasizes that Kant was a philosopher, who challenged the received traditions of
classical metaphysics. According to Kant natural order is not pervasive and reason is
limited by the creative power of the individual .
Let us put the following question what is interesting in Kant s philosophy? Of
course, it is a subjective question, and everyone may answer this question in his/her
own way. Kant s moral philosophy, notion of morality, motive of duty, concept of
imperatives are of great interest for me. That is why my essay will cover the notion
and essence of categorical imperative and morality from Kant s point of view. I
would like to note that I support Kant s imperatives and motive of duty.
Before considering the topic of the essay I am going to give a brief general
information about Kant and his main
Media And Social Media
According to dictionary.com, the word media is defined as the means of
communication, as radio and television, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet, that
reach or influence people widely. By definition, the media is constantly swarming
the public audience day in and day out while never coming to a halt. National and
global coverage from the mediais essential for all people who desire staying up to
date with the current events that are occurring all over the world. Although there are
many different forms of media, while reflecting over a three day period of how I
personally use media, I have come to realize many things. Most of my observations
will be discussed throughout this essay.
First of all, I can fully admit that I am very guilty of being considered an addicted
media user. Before this assignment, I wasn t consciously aware of how often I
check my phone for social media posts or my laptop for online news articles. The
results were actually alarming; I ve come to believe that I am on my phone far too
often throughout the day. The media outlets that I use the most often is Snapchat,
Instagram, Facebook, Buzzfeed, DailyMail and television s nightly news programs
such as News 4 New York or NBC Nightly Newswith Lester Holt. In our modern day
society, I believe the platforms on social media have become the most commonly
used source for media news and entertainment. Aside from just social media, I think
the second most used form of media today would be the televised
Doppelgänger In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Doppelgänger is a German phrase from the mid nineteenth century meaning mirror
image, which correlates to the conception that two individuals are a living double.
Thousands of years ago, individuals considered an ancient widespread belief of
spiritual doubles to be a sign of impending death. This was primarily due to the lack
of scientific knowledge and study, which lead society to gain faith in paranormal
activities. Those cases of doppelgängerare referred to as, evil twin (Ancient Origin
5) which means that the identical other may seem as a favorable shadow, but in
reality, is a malevolent and hostile being. Furthermore, these cases are considered
works of fiction, where people experience actual scenarios of meeting their sinister...

He is left alone and is infuriated because of the abandonment he endures from his
creator, the very minute he is born. Frankenstein chooses to shun him because he is
immensely disgusted by its physical appearance. For example, this is shown by the
resentment the creature shows when he states, ...Yet you, my creator, detest and
spurn me... (Shelley 111) In addition, the disfigured beast also portrays the
obsessive behavior of ambition, which makes him mentally identical to his maker,
against whom he seeks revenge. However, his objective is mainly focused on
finding his master and making him suffer for the unethical acts that he has
committed. Eventually he meets his creator and demands him to create a female
mate, someone who he can relate to and share the similar grotesque persona with.
Temporarily he receives assurance upon his request, but later Frankenstein reneges
on his vow. This causes the creature to threaten his creator and swear that he will
exact revenge upon him and his family. Given the fact that William has already
been murdered and Justine was framed for it, Frankenstein cannot ignore the
powerful threat. The wretch is an incredible mastermind when it comes to
committing murder because he flees multiple times and successfully manages to
avoid leaving any evidence behind. His passion to destroy his creator blinds him
while he takes the lives of the innocent. This is proven when step by step, he takes
away all the members with whom his maker shares a close bond. Soon, the creature
murders Henry Clerval, Frankenstein s dearest childhood friend and promises him, I
will be with you on your wedding night. (Shelley 206) These concepts support how
the scientist provokes his creation to hatred and his family to sadness with his
negligence, due to his selfish, misguided ambition to prioritize his research before his

2.2.3 Bargaining Power of Suppliers in automobile industry
The bargaining power of suppliers is low because of the presence of powerful
buyers who are able to direct terms to the suppliers who are generally small firms.
Besides these suppliers of tires, parts, electronic, mechanical equipment are small
players and may have only one or two clients (ancillaries).
2.2.4 Bargaining Power of Customers in automobile industry
With a wide variety of vehicles and manufacturers due to low switching costs, the
bargaining power of customers is very high in the automobile industry. Also foreign
brands are selling vehicles in the Indian markets, adding to the bargaining power of
customers in this industry. Thus the value created by the firm lies in adding
differentiating features by innovating and increasing the customer s willingness to
pay while reducing the supplier s opportunity cost.

Oral Candidiasis
Candidiasis, recurrent herpes labialis and recurrent aphthous stomatitis, hairy tongue,
erythema migrans, and lichen planus are the most type of common superficial oral
lesions. Diagnosis of such lesions requires history taking, performing a complete
oral examination and knowledge of clinical characteristics. Oral candidiasis may
present as pseudomembranous candidiasis, glossitis, or perleche (angular cheilitis)
(Gonsalves et al. 2007). We performed a study to determine the frequency of seven
tongue abnormal conditions in patients attended in the Screening Clinic of Oral

2013). Oral candidiasis is common in infants, but in adults it may signify immune
deficiency or other illness. Herpes labialis typically is a mild, self limited
condition. Recurrent aphthous stomatitis most often is a mild condition; however,
severe cases may be caused by nutritional deficiencies, autoimmune disorders, or
human immunodeficiency virus infection (Gonsalves et al. 2007). Recurrent
aphtous stomatitis (RAS) is one of the most common oral lesions and is a well
known oral disease with unclear etiopathogenesis for which symptomatic therapy is
only available. RAS is characterized by the appearance of initially necrotic ulcers,
with well defined limits surrounded by an erythematous halo. The lesions are
located on the oral mucosa, but are infrequent on the gums. The disease manifests
in the form of outbreaks, with a chronic and self limiting course in most cases RAS
is the most frequent chronic disease of the oral cavity, affecting 5 25% of the
population. It is more common in patients between 10 40 years of age, and
predominantly affects women and individuals of higher socioeconomic levels

Do Not Resuscitate Orders in Suicide Attempts
Nursing 410
Introduction
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) has published a fact sheet of
statistics on suicide in the United States. In 2007, it is reported that suicide was the
tenth leading cause of death. Furthermore, for every suicide committed, eleven were
attempted. A total of 34,598 deaths occurred from suicide with an overall rate of
11.3 suicide deaths per 100,000 people. (NIMH, 2010). Risk factors were also
noted on this report and listed depression and other mental disorders, or a substance
abuse disorder (often in combination with other mental disorders). More than ninety
percent of people who die by suicide have these risk factors (NIMH, 2010).

A patient may give clues with or without realizing they have done so; therefore, the
nurse needs to be cognizant of such and relay the information to the physician. Even
if the patient has a terminal illness and has decided to end his life, the nurse who has

to be explored further.
Ethical Implications
An ethical dilemma arises when a patient who has an advance directive and/or a
DNR in place attempts suicide. The idea of saving people vs. allowing people to die
or commit suicide is at the very essence of one of the most debated and controversial
dilemmas today. As long as there is difficulty in determining rationality in suicide,
this controversy will remain (Butts amp; Rich, 2008). Not only do the principles of
autonomy, nonmaleficence, and beneficence collide with one another, but legal,
religious, and/or economic values are also impacted (Cook, Pan, Silverman, amp;
Soltys, 2010). According to Butts and Rich, rational suicide is a self slaying based on
reasoned choice and categorized as voluntary active euthanasia and that individuals
who contemplate rational suicide have a realistic assessment of life circumstances,
are free from severe emotional distress, and have a motivation that would seem
understandable to most uninvolved people in their community. Contrary to that
statement is the finding in the various articles read indicating that individuals who
Inclusion is Not a One Size Fits All Solution
Combining students attending traditional education classes and students with
exceptionalities is commonly termed as mainstreaming or integration. Inclusion is the
act or practice of including students with disabilities in regular school classes as
defined in Webster s dictionary (Webster, 2003). Ro Vargo was fortunate enough to
have parents who closely monitored the learning environment and advocated for their
daughter. They followed her educationeach step of the way. She continued to build on

Instead, his response surprised them. He stated that other people had the concerns
and made the rules that prevent people like Ro from receiving First Communion.
(Villa Thousand, 2005, p. 28). But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to
them, Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the
kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God
like a child shall not enter it. (Mark 10:14 15, New International Version). The
pastor was excited for Ro to participate, and the effect that it may have on the church
families to see her innocent, pure faith as she received her First Communion in God s
Temple. Including Ro gave the church the chance to teach and learn together, which
is a great example of inclusion.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), passed in the Untied States
in 1975, says that to the maximum extent appropriate, handicapped children,
including those children in public and private institutions or other care facilities, are
educated with children who are not handicapped, and that special classes, separate
schooling, or other removal of handicapped children from the regular educational
environment occurs only when the nature or severity of the handicap is such that
education in regular classes with the use of supplementary aids and services cannot
be achieved satisfactorily (P.L. 94 142, В§ 1412 [5] [B]) (Villa

Conscience In The Canterbury Tales
The Prioress s portrait is the first portrait of the General Prologue in which Chaucer
displays satire. Her portrait shows that although she is a prioress, she is not well
suited for life in the church and that she needs to work on a major part of her job:
her conscience. Chaucer mentions her conscience twice within her portrait, but
the word is never used in context of her clerical responsibilities, which Chaucer
never mentions even though they should be one of her main priorities. The word
is instead used to praise her on her courtly appearance. Chaucer s use of the word
conscience as praise in The Prioress Portrait allows him to expose her shortcoming
as a prioress without explicitly criticizing her. According to the Medieval English
Dictionary, the word conscience in the Medieval period had a few different
definitions. It could refer to one s moral sense of right and wrong with reference to
Christian ethics or it can be one s attitude of mind or feelings ... Show more content

This might refer to God s love, but in line with her desire to appear as a lady of the
court, it is more likely a tribute to courtly love instead. Although Chaucer
sardonically compliments the prioress on her appearance, he shows that one of her
greatest concerns is her appearance, and her conscience is never at the forefront of her

Sandy Hook. It is crazy how all you need to understand an event is a title. By not
say much there is a great chance that you already feel the emotion of Sandy Hook,
you know what it means and what it stands for. It is sad, yes, but it is an event that
will never change and that challenged a nation as a whole. Opportunities like these,
although tragic, are moment in which we can see the true nature of our leader the
president. In Obamas speech at the Newtown, Connecticut prayer vigil for the
victims of the sandy hook event, we see a glimpse of what the president means to
his people (in Theodore Roosevelt s eyes) and also how Mass media has changed the
view of audiences during this tragic event. Following the shooting at the elementary

vigil of the victims hosted at a local high school. In the case that you where unaware

Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Meaning
There is no mystery in Mother to Son as to who is speaking to whom. In fact, the
title of the poem alone provides all of the exposition needed to understand that this
piece is set up as a mother s advice to her son. Presumably, this poem represents the
advice that Langston Hughes may have received from his own mother. The imagery
of a staircase opens up the work, which begins, Well, son, I ll tell you: / Life for me
ain t been no crystal stair (Hughes 1 2). Line two, in particular, immediately conjures
several associations in the mind of the reader. First, many audiences will be familiar
with the concept of a stairway to heaven, as such a proverbial structure is mentioned
often through world history in works such as the Bible and other... Show more content

It s had tacks in it, / And splinters, / And boards torn up, / And places with no carpet
on the floor / Bare (Hughes 3 7). Clearly, this woman s life has been difficult. More
than that, by using imagery of tacks, splinters, and torn up boards, the mother is
telling her son that at times her life has been outright dangerous. It is no mistake
that Hughes chooses to use images of objects that can easily do physical harm.
Lines three through seven confirm that the mother s life journey has been more
than hard; indeed, it has been perilous. However, as the poem continues, mother
tells son that she has always managed to advance in spite of the obstacles on her
particular staircase. But all the time / I se been a climbin on, / And reachin landin
s, / And turnin corners, / And sometimes goin in the dark / Where there ain t been
no light (Hughes 8 13). During these lines, the tone of the poem slowly turns from
hopeless to hopeful. True, the mother s life has been dangerous a fraught with
obstacles, and yet she has thus far overcome each one of her challenges. The

Watching Kung Fu Panda Three Times
MOM! It s not fair! My youngest child yelled again. Alex continued with his
exasperated three year old logic, AJ got to watch Kung Fu Panda three times, and I
only got to see it twice last night! (A. G. Neff, personal communication, October 4,
2012). The consternation arose from my insistence that a different movie should
be viewed other than the same one that had been continually playing on the
television set for the previous three days. My children always love repeat
performances, and ever since I had pulled the DVD out of the moving boxes and
told them I needed to watch it as part of my own homework, it was as if no other
film would satisfy (Cobb, Stevenson Osborne, 2008). My five year old recognized
that I would not allow another viewing without a change in tactics. But Mom, if
you don t watch it again you won t be able to do your homework. You won t know
that Po s Dad [Note: according to the movie transcript Po s Dad is the character s
actual name] isn t even a panda! (Aibel Berger, 2008, p. 3). Without explaining that
I had already familiar with the situation because I had seen the movie no less than
three times in the previous 72 hours, I replied, Is that really important? YES! They
both yelled back. AJ unwittingly enlightened me, All the animals are different, but
they re ALL important! They all have to do different stuff to help Po be[come] the

Transgender Video Analysis
2) I think learning more about the history of transgender individuals would be very
interesting. It is not a topic that is discussed a ton, and I believe it would be good to
get exposed to their history. Learning more about the current transgender movements
is an issue we should also become more informed on. The news does not talk about
the violence directed towards transgenderpeople, so I think we should get more
educated on what they are going through. I never really heard about the violence
towards transgender individuals because I come from a small town and it is not
really an issue that is brought up on the news often.
4) I thought it was really interesting when they brought up the issue of a lot of
transgender characters being played by cisgender actors and actresses. I am sure
there are plenty of extremely talented transgender actresses and actors. I feel like
the casting people did not try to reach out to the transgender group of actors and
actresses. I my opinion, transgender individuals would relate more to the
transgender characters. I think it would add a lot of authenticity, so I believe more
shows should look for a transgender to play their transgender role of characters. I
think we need to start giving these individuals more chances, so we can have more ...

Laverne Cox shares a lot of stories her own and others that work to inspire
acceptance of the transgender community. It is super admiring that Laverne is using
her celebrity status to spread awareness about the discriminations and violence that
is directed to the transgender community. More and more people are becoming
more open about being transgender, so I think as a society we need to be more
accepting of differences between each other. She does a great job with addressing
the violence that is directed at the transgender community, and I believe it is a topic
that needs to be covered

Essay on Joseph McCarthy and McCarthyism
The Second Red Scare was a period of heightened fears of the Soviet Union and the
political ideology of Communism. The paranoia and hysteria inherent to this period
led to discrimination of Communists. Joseph McCarthy was a main player in this Red
Scare, which was sometimes called the Witch Hunts in Washington. He was a
Wisconsin senator who made claims against those whom he suspected of being
Communists or Communist sympathizers.
Joseph McCarthy was born in a small town in Wisconsin on November 15, 1908.
After quitting school at the age of fourteen, he had a short stint as a chicken farmer
and became the manager of a local grocery store ( McCarthy ). At the age of twenty
he completed the four year high school curriculum in nine short ... Show more content

His accusations generated national interest and gained him a significant amount of
fame, or rather, infamy. However, it was later found out that the piece of paper he d
been holding during that speech had merely been his laundry receipt (Bates). Even
so, McCarthy was already well on his way to becoming one of the most notable
communist hunters in U.S. history.
The Second Red Scare took place during the Cold War. It arose largely due to
widespread fear of the Communistic Soviet Union, but also due to strong opposition
to Truman s New Deal, mostly by conservative Republicans who equated the Deal s
labor unions and social programs to Communism ( The Second ). McCarthy began
his hearings in order to identify what he believed was a Communist conspiracy, and
stop the supposed Communist infiltration into the government. He has often been
criticized for the methods he used in these hearings. For example, his executive
sessions, a term which usually was synonymous with closed, were, as John G.
Adams, the army s counsel at many hearings, put it, neither closed nor secret,
essentially boiling down to that Joe could do whatever he wanted (U.S. Senate xix).
McCarthy s harsh methods were often criticized, and in 1954, the Senate censured
him for his non cooperation with and abuse of the Subcommittee on Privileges and

She discusses how she finds the clamping sound as she walks to be like thunder
while Jim says he hardly hear it at all. Laura is represented by several symbols
including the glass menagerie, unicorn and blue roses. While she is always
isolated in her own world of small glass ornaments , these glass represents her
fragility. She is fragile to the outside world, easily broken. The unicorn just like
Laura, stands out from the rest of the horses. When she allows Jim to look at it, she
states that she trust him with it. This is symbolizing how she is entrusting herself to
him. When the unicorn was broken by Jim, it also symbolizes how Laura for once is
close to the other girls who has fallen in love. Additionally this also foreshadows how
Laura will be broken by Jim s clumsiness just like the unicorn. Together with the
unicorn, blue roses is also a unnatural thing that rarely exists in the real world. Both of
them symbolizes the uniqueness of Laura in comparison to her surrounding. As
described by the stage directions, she has an unearthly prettiness . Furthermore, the
entrance of Laura is always associated with soft lighting which imitates the soft light
on the Saints in medieval paintings, suggesting her sainthood. In the scene when
Laura is alone with Jim, the only light on stage was the candle that once stood on the
altar of a church, thus again confirming the Christian
The Highest Value Of A Democratic Society
The highest value of a democratic society The word democracy has two major
meanings: a government by the people who are the majority, and also it can refer to
a government in which the ultimate power is given to the people who directly or
indirectly exercises it via a system of representation and usually involves free and fair
elections. Democracyrefers to a government created through elected representatives.
Democracy in the society favors equal rightsand believes in the freedom of speech as
well as the view of the minority groups in the society. Democracy is based on the
principles of the rule of majority and rights of individuals. A democratic society is
where all government levels are made accessible to the people (Jensen Romanowski
30). Certain values define a democratic society, and this may include life, liberty, the
pursuit of happiness, the common good, justice, diversity, equality, truth, popular
sovereignty, patriotism, equality, general accord among others. This paper discusses
each of these values and also determines which of these values represent the highest
level of a democratic society. These democratic values represent the fundamental
beliefs as well as the basic principles of the constitution which unit all people in a
given nation (Christman 242).
The common good The common good refers to a situation where every member of
the society works together so as to benefit every member of the community. Examples

stars brightness and magnitude are connected to each other. The lower numerical
value of the magnitude the brighter the star will appear. Conducting this lab first we
went through the steps oh how to find the apparent magnitude of the sun at different
distances. This experience walked us through how the distance has a direct affect on
the apparent magnitude of a star. It also noted the change of astronomical units to
parsecs. Secondly, we completed a couple more table s of the comparison of apparent
magnitude to the distance of the stars Sirius and Betelgeuse. Even though these

Discrimination And Personality Development In Adulthood
Paper
Lee, Angie PSYC 100 Dec. 7, 2015 Perceived Discrimination and Personality
Development in Adulthood In this study, researchers focused on whether
experiencing discrimination affects personality changes in adults. Their reason to
believe this is because normally, there are predictable changes in an adult s
personality, as part of the Five Factor Model . Researchers in this study predicted
that there will be increases in experiencing negative emotions, decreases in being
trusting, decreases in being able to be organized and disciplined, as well as being
able to be open to try new things. Researchers conducted this experiment by taking
two nationally large samples: one in the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) and one
in the Midlife in the United States (MIDUS), each with a follow up interval. In the
Health and Retirement Study, Americans were taken at the ages of 50 and older.

Archetypes In The Hero And The God
The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell elucidates why all heroes are
archetypes in all types of literature written from the BC s to present time. In The
Hero and the God, Campbell rationalizes that all heroes have the same character
traits and follow the same process or steps in their stories. Campbell also justifies that
no matter where or when the herowas from the stories are all the xeroxes. These steps
that he explains are separation, initiation, and return. First and foremost, Campbell
has divided separation, initiation, and return into subcategories which are; The Call to
Adventure, Supernatural Aid/ The Helper, Trials and Triumphs, The Return and
Wisdom or Knowledge Gained. The first step of the process is The Call to Adventure.
Dealing With Formative And Summative
Dealing with formative and summative can be a difficult task that can have a
confusing definition. Over the past years both assessment are well balance
assessment systems that gather very important information. These assessments are
for students achievements to strive to highest to success of learning. In this paper I
will provide information that will distinguish the different roles of each education
assessment in schools. It will provide studies of assessments related to subjects when
preparing the quality and access of education. Assessment systems are generated in a
timely matter that provides information in the educational system to the next level on
a large scale. When dealing with high quality scale assessments are for a purpose.
Assessments can be sometimes not helpful sometimes when teachers improve their
instruction to modify their method to students. Students will take assessments at the
end of the school year when instructor activities are completed. Then it comes to a
point when teachers will not receive test scores and goals until later, as the students
have moved to the next grade level. And thirdly, the results that teachers receive
usually lack the level of detail needed to target specific improvements (Barton, 2002;
Kifer, 2001).
Many assessments are for improvement for students learning in tests, writing, and
other assessments when teachers administer students in class on a daily basis. When
teachers approve of the different results they are directed

The Crystal Land Poem Meaning
The Crystal Land: Constructing and Destroying Zembla
By shifting focus to the imagery of crystal, which carries contrasting connotations
from the windows of the previous narrative, Nabokov also shifts the setting from
the realm of reality to that of Kinbote s fantasy. The delicate extravagance generally
associated with crystal can be seen as a representation of the unattainable, subjective
realm both internal authors fundamentally strive for. The fact that crystal is able to
refract light due to the presence of lead also supports that as it alludes to the idea of
the false azure projected by the windowpane in Shade s poem. Furthermore, both
Zembla and the ambiguous realm Shade portrays in the first stanza of his poem are
dubbed the crystal land. This continual reflection of images from the ... Show more

This can be seen as a parallel to his previous position of observing from a glass
house ; he is imprisoned in his rose stone palace from a corner turret of which one
could make out with the help of field glasses lithe youths (97). While the rose stone
doesn t initially seem to belong to the semantic field of glass, here Nabokov is
referring to the rose quartz crystal. By using the word stone, however he evokes the
juxtaposition of nature and glass imagery from the first narrative. By synthesizing the
two symbols here, he can thus shift the meaning of crystal to act as a barrier
entrapping the narrator within his fantasy. Furthermore, by placing Kinbote in the
same voyeuristic role as in the first narrative, Nabokov is able to once again convey
Kinbote s inability to transcend his fantasy due to his dissociation from reality. In
effect, by including the fantasy narrative, Nabokov has the freedom for romanticized
invention which allows him to literally imprison Kinbote in a crystal palace. This
acts as a representation of the idea of the glass house explored in the first

What would happen if the trash collector stopped coming to your house? Your

This is similar to how a lysosome works for the cell. The lysosome removes and
breaks down big food particles and old parts of the cell. Lysosomes play a major role
in the cell. If the cell didn t have lysosomes it could become dangerous to the cell
and the cell could die. Wastewould build up in

reflection of the services provided by the caring staff and volunteers at Ronald
McDonald House Charities (RMHC). Families with severely ill children under the
age of 18, who are undergoing treatment from local hospitals, are grateful for this
temporary home away from home. It was the aspiration of Fred Hill, a

Essay about Eumenides
The Importance of Gender in Aeschylus Oresteia
Gender is made explicit as a theme throughout the Oresteia through a series of male
female conflicts and incorrectly gendered characters dominated by the figure of
Clytemnestra, a woman out of place. This opposition of gender then engenders all
the other oppositions of the trilogy; conflicts of oikos and polis, chthonic and
Olympian, old and young can be assigned to female and male spheres respectively.
In this essay I will look at how the polis examines itself in terms of gender by
focusing on the Eumenides exploration of the myth of matriarchy, issues of the
conflict between oikos and polis and the use of speech within the polis. I will then
look at how these themes are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only has the sex of the owners changed but also so has that of the source of the
inspiration but it is Zeus that Apollo speaks for (Eum. 19). This transition to a world
ordered by men is complemented by images of Apollo s journey to Delphi; the manly
god of fire Hephaestos civilizes this female savage country (Eum. 14) which has
been bequeathed by the female deities and a male head of state, Delphos (Eum. 16),
who is there to welcome Apollo and his new male order. The play opens with a
hopeful precedent for a return to a proper patriarchal society.
The Eumenides brings to mind other myths, Zeitlin notices that the trial scene has
strong connections with another Athenian myth of a trial that also is very concerned
with gender. Athena had to compete with Poseidon for the city of Athens and this
was decided by a vote. This was during a time when women had the right to vote,
and lead promiscuous lives and no one knew who his father was. The women side
with Athena and they out number the men by one and so Athena wins. The women
however must be punished for the use of their power and so patriarchal society is
installed.1 Whether Athenians felt at all uncomfortable with this founding myth of
their female patron deity is debateable but Athena s famous speech (Eum. 750 756)
has been interpreted as a returning of the favour. Athena may be siding with the male
here but we are reminded of her ties

2000 Citing Advantages and Disadvantages to Both
Introduction
What is X Windows? The X Window System, often known as X,... Show more

Advantages and Disadvantages
Perhaps the most significant capability of GDI over more direct methods of
accessing the hardware, Wikipedia (2005), is its scaling capabilities, and abstraction
of target devices. Using GDI, it is very easy to draw on multiple devices, such as a
screen and a printer, and expect proper reproduction in each case. This capability is
at the center of all WYSIWYG applications for Microsoft Windows.
One of the biggest advantages of the X Window, Lockergnome (1996 2005),
approach to GUIs is that X is completely independent of the core operating system. In
other operating systems, a GUI crash requires a system restart. With X, the GUI can
be stopped, started, changed, and restarted without so much as denting the underlying
processes of the OS.
Not addressed in this paper is the Windows Graphics Foundation, which is the next
version of Microsoft s DirectX application programming interface (API). Games and
all they require are out of scope of both the Window manager available for the
Knoppix Linux Boot disk and GDI.
Conclusion
I actually prefer the Windows 2000 DE and all that entails. Perhaps this is born from
familiarity alone, but considering both let me move my mouse, click and open
windows, and access files there is not much more to judge. In the final observation
pertaining to this, the performance I get from using Windows operating system and
its DE outshines what is available with the Knoppix Linux Boot disk.
The Energy Development Of Greening Energy Sector
Greening energy sector in India has started through the implementation of various
policies and acts in energy sector. The electricity Act which was enforced in 2003 for
the generation of renewable energy, providing sufficient support and facilitating its
purchase was the first formal process in promoting clean energy (solar energyin
India). Other energy policies and acts like National Tariff policy 2006, National rural
electrification policies 2006 and semiconductor policy 2007 have provided ground for
the establishment of standalone off grid renewable energyand also subsidised
manufacturing of solar panels (solar energy in India).
The installed capacity of solar power plant which was 161 MW in 2010 increased
up to 4097 MW till July 2015 (Phillips, 2014).During the year 2014 2015, there has
been 42 % increase in the solar power installed capacity adding up 1112 MW in the
renewable energy pool (Power brochure India). Recently on August 2015, India has
turned The Cochin International Airport into entirely solar powered airport
producing 48 KWh of energy which is assumed to save 300,000 tons of Equivalent
carbon in the next 25 years (Greenberg, 2015). This has been considered as a great
achievement in clean energy development in India and around world. Madhya
Pradesh, Gujrat, Rajasthan, are the leading states in solar energy production in India.
With the aim to reduce the dependency in conventional fuel, Ministry of New and
Renewable Energy (MNRE) launched the programme

is primarily a symbol of removal from God and the light, the prescence of evil. The
ever present darkness represents some undercurrent of evil that runs throughout the
story.
Cats are also an important symbol. The first sign we get of any cats is the sound of
their painful yowling . Later Felipe sees some of them being burned alive. Some of
the things cats can represent are independence and self sufficiency. Their destruction
leads one to believe that Felipe s independence is being replaced by dependence and
his self sufficiency is being replaced by reliance on Aura.
The appearance of rats could correspond to inappropritae and unseen activities that
occur in one s home, but there is something more. As a destroyer of stored food and
transmitter of disease, the rat acquired the reputation of being in league with the
devil, demons, and witches in their efforts to bring the unsuspecting to ruin. 2 The
prescence of rats not only hint at inappropriate activities inside of the house, but also
at the prescence of witches, something I am quite sure Consuelo is.

At The Heart Of The Phoenix
At the Heart of The Phoenix
There is no clear definition that describes what hipness is, but it involves a group of
people that are drawn to oppose the mainstream culture, copy the African American
style, and incorporate it into theirs. Hipster culture is often promoted by literature,
films, places, clothing, and music. They are individuals characterized by love for
outsiders, language that means more than it says, and grimy sense of nobility (Leland
10). Having written on various topics throughout the semester, it would be imperative
to evaluate the hip culture that Tulsa promotes. More specifically, this analysis will
be focused on the coffee shop, The Phoenix. Although Tulsa has many creative
features such as studio space, art galleries, legendary music venues like Cain s
Ballroom, and nightclubs, The Phoenix is one of the staple spots that depict the
hipness of this place.
The Phoenix is a coffee shop whose operation and environment promotes the
hipster lifestyle. It is a great place for both the people who love morning coffee and
a delicious bagel, and for those who like having late night hangouts and
conversations. The Phoenix is usually open until midnight and sometimes it serves
its customers until late night hours. (Tulsa Places 1) Custom hours are part of the
characteristic that speaks to the hipness of this shop. They do not have set business
or official hours as the place is often closed when the operators need it to be or when
business is slow. Due to this
On The Waterfront Film Analysis
A few years before the release of On the Waterfront (Elia Kazan, 1954), the House
Un American Activities Committee investigated alleged Communists in
Hollywood. Among those under investigation, Elia Kazan elected to release names
of others involved in the same movement (Neve 66). This event sparked intense
controversy in Hollywood, and it forced the people he uncovered to either release
more names or be blacklisted from filmmaking. Through an early example of film
authorship, Kazan was able to relate scenes throughout the movie to his personal
experiences with HUAC. Within the Classic Hollywood Narrative, Kazan s
directorial creativity allows him to develop his ideas through the typical structure
and expand his deeper thoughts through the allegory of the waterfront. A majority of
the film stays within the Classic Narrative Style, but some scenes will venture
outside the realm of the typical structure. While scenes throughout the movie may or
may not follow the narrative, they are specifically created to tell a deeper story in
relation to the movie s plot and Kazan s life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Moments before the murder, Terry returns one of Doyle s lost birds, and as he
releases the bird to fly back to the cage on the roof, the camera pans upward as the
movie shifts into the rising action. Through the use of the film s plot, Kazan began
his allegory of the waterfront with the death of Joey Doyle. The audience sees that
Terry loathes his responsibility in the previous action, and Kazan, as a film author, is
relating this scene to his life in the HUAC trials. While he reported names of other
active Communists, Kazan could have struggled with intense inner conflict, as he
understood the outcome of his decision. He is stating that judgment on other
individuals should not be done without careful considerations of each person s

  • 2. David Jenkins Research As the human population continues to grow exponentially, researchers like David Jenkins, are looking into other possible food production. Jenkins proposes that eating plants would not only be beneficial for the body, since it lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, but it would also be more sustainable than raising meat. Jenkins research highlights three dietary methods and he explains how these dietary methods (especially Simian) can help us feed 9 billion in 2050. With the exponential growth in humanpopulation, there must be an increase in livestock (meat) to support the rapid growth. Jenkins data show that already livestock feed processing and production heavily contributes in the emission of greenhouse gases. Jenkins proposal is that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jenkins comments that with 5.5kg food in and 1.0+kg feces out, 1g of bile acids are produced. Bile acids are crucial in lowering cholesterol. The Simian diet had 1.0g/day of phytosterols, more commonly known as plant sterols, while the NCEP Step 2 diet only had 0.3g/day. Jenkins analyzes that viscous fiber, vegetable protein, plant sterols, and almonds, all help to lower LDL cholesterol by 5%. Along with the NCEP Step 2 diet which reduces LDL by 10%, this would total to a 30% LDL cholesterol reduction. The two conclusion that Jenkins brings up is that plant based diet has a potentially useful role in the control of CHD Lipid Risk Factors as it lowers LDL cholesterol and his second conclusion is that many small changes may together have a significant effect on the CHD risk reduction. Just how Jenkins analyzed that viscous fibers, vegetable protein, plant sterols, and almonds can each lower the LDL cholesterol by 5%, all these small changes can have a significant effect on the CHD risk
  • 3. Elements of Pastiche in Wall-E, a Postmodernism Analysis CHAPTER III ANALYSIS An example of postmodernism application in film is WALL E. It is an animation movie released in 2008 by Pixar Animation Studios. The film is about a robot named WALL E. Throughout the story, there are references or similar encounters with the previous or past works in films. These elements are the pastiche of WALL E. 3.1 Post Apocalyptic Earth First of all, the setting of earth in WALL E is clearly a resemblance of other post apocalypse films. 28 Days Later (2002) is one obvious example of this. Both films take place in the post apocalyptic world and the earth is portrayed as the abandoned planet. Also, there are clips within the films which describe the preceding events that commence the apocalypse. Picture 2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Picture 9 Picture 8 The pictures above depict the situations in which WALL E (picture 5) and R2D2 (picture 6) traveled into space by ship, although the purposes of their journey were different. WALL E hung on the ship s panel to follow EVE, but R2D2 was in the tube of the ship to accompany Anakin Skywalker in battling the enemies ships. In addition, both WALL E and R2D2 are portrayed to be helping the realization of a great cause. On one hand, WALL E plays an important role in informing the humans that the earth is a safe place to live again. On the other hand, R2D2 helps the other more significant characters in battling the evils. Moreover, both movies also share another similarity which is the physical setting the story takes place. More than half of the story of WALL E happens inside a spaceship, and this idea can also be seen in Star Wars saga where more than one spaceship is involved in the six movies. Picture 12 Picture [ 1 ]3 Picture 11 Picture 10 The picture on the left above (picture 10) is the Axiom, the spaceship where the humans lived post apocalypse in WALL E , while the picture on the right (picture 11) is one of the many spaceships seen in Star Wars saga. Furthermore, the pictures above are another proof that WALL E and Star Wars are alike. In picture 12, it is perceived that the humans were able to live in the Axiom. They could do usual activities like eating and
  • 4. Design And Technology Case Study Child of 2021, ***Disclaimer: These are all my personal recommendations you don t have to take any of it :) *** I m just going to be blunt. If you didn t come here because you absolutely love STEM, drop out. I don t want to be harsh but if you came here for the name, or to get into an Ivy you re not coming to the right place. Many kids spend 4 years here and realize that at their base school, they could ve gotten into the same college as they did, with half the effort. If your parents forced you to come here, I don t have that much advice for you. Now, if you are coming here for the rigorous STEM curriculum, that s great. Here are some tips for our IBET. Everyone knows that the Holman Glotfelty Geiger IBET is the hardest, but it s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When writing, focus on the analysis, and I don t mean restate the same piece of commentary twice. Make sure to have lots of ideas before hand and don t fall into Plot Summary Syndrome. Biology: B i o i s a S h a f t is what many people will say. It s really not if you do all your work and read the textbook. You will have DQs, so don t take your notecards lightly. Biology has a lot of memorization so you really need to SLEEP before taking the tests. (Don t be like me, I stayed up until 4am studying for the first bio test and got a 79) I also recommend you take the time on your long commute and watch the videos, they re a little lighter than the dense textbook and I find them a great help. Generally, the quizzes will be mainly based on facts and memoization, while the tests are based more on analysis and application. The IBET Paper: DO NOT TAKE THIS LIGHTLY OR YOUR GRADE WILL SUFFER. You will take an L for the first assignment. Everyone did, this is just a wakeup call telling you that you cannot BS this paper and APA formatting matters a lot. Pick a topic that you have genuine interest in. This year, almost everyone got inconclusive results and it was a hot mess. At least to us, the teachers and other adults thought it was pretty great. Anyways, never procrastinate until the last minute on this paper, it will show and you re end up with a 9/15 or some other unsavory grade. If someone is slacking off in your group don t be afraid to
  • 5. Nt1310 Research Paper A WSN is a type of wireless networks that consists of collection sensor nodes which are tiny devices. Each sensor node of the network has different processing capability. It may contain multiple types of memory (program, data and flash memories), have a RF transceiver, have a power source (e.g., batteries and solar cells), and accommodate various sensors and actuators. The nodes communicate wirelessly and often self organize after being deployed in an ad hoc fashion [13, 14]. Optimum need of each sensornode is to maximize its own utility function. Also the whole network requires resource assignments balance to perform in a useful and efficient way. This chapter presents a brief survey on WSNs showing its types, characterizing features, protocols and applications. 2.2.Wireless Sensor Node ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More specifically, a sensor is a device that responds to phenomena, such as light, pressure, or heat, and generates a signal that can be measured or interpreted [16]. The sensor network community often defines a sensor node as a wireless device which is small, capable of responding to one or several stimuli, processing the data and transmitting the information over a short distance using a radio link. • 6. The Jewish Religion Summary The Jewish Question examines the criticism of Karl Marx against Bauer and his theory on the emancipation of the Jewish people. Bauer proposes the question of the relationship of religion to the state, examining religious prejudice and political emancipation (p. 48). In this context, Bauer addresses the need for emancipation for both the Jewish people and the state. Ultimately arriving at the idea that Jewish people must choose between a political life and a religious one. However, Marx criticizes Bauer s argument due to its failure to address the varying degrees between political emancipation and human emancipation. Marx s argument against Bauer and his theory of political emancipation is correlated with the continued existence of religion.

Immanuel Kant Research Paper Kant is the founder of philosophical criticism, which is a turning point in the history of human thought, so that the whole development of philosophy, if not in content, then in relation to thought, should be divided into two periods: pre critical (pre Kantian) and post critical (post Kantian) in the following words the great Russian Philosopher Vladimir Soloviev characterizes the significance of Kant s philosophy. Who is Immanuel Kant? Immanuel Kant is the founder of German classical philosophy and one of the largest directions in modern legal theory. Professor of law Ian Ward in his work Introduction to Critical Legal Theory emphasizes that Kant was a philosopher, who challenged the received traditions of classical metaphysics. According to Kant natural order is not pervasive and reason is limited by the creative power of the individual . Let us put the following question what is interesting in Kant s philosophy? Of course, it is a subjective question, and everyone may answer this question in his/her own way. Kant s moral philosophy, notion of morality, motive of duty, concept of imperatives are of great interest for me. By definition, the media is constantly swarming the public audience day in and day out while never coming to a halt. National and global coverage from the mediais essential for all people who desire staying up to date with the current events that are occurring all over the world. Although there are many different forms of media, while reflecting over a three day period of how I personally use media, I have come to realize many things. Most of my observations will be discussed throughout this essay. First of all, I can fully admit that I am very guilty of being considered an addicted media user. Before this assignment, I wasn t consciously aware of how often I check my phone for social media posts or my laptop for online news articles. The results were actually alarming; I ve come to believe that I am on my phone far too often throughout the day. The media outlets that I use the most often is Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Buzzfeed, DailyMail and television s nightly news programs such as News 4 New York or NBC Nightly Newswith Lester Holt. In our modern day society, I believe the platforms on social media have become the most commonly used source for media news and entertainment. Aside from just social media, I think the second most used form of media today would be the televised

Doppelgänger In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Doppelgänger is a German phrase from the mid nineteenth century meaning mirror image, which correlates to the conception that two individuals are a living double. Thousands of years ago, individuals considered an ancient widespread belief of spiritual doubles to be a sign of impending death. This was primarily due to the lack of scientific knowledge and study, which lead society to gain faith in paranormal activities. Those cases of doppelgängerare referred to as, evil twin (Ancient Origin 5) which means that the identical other may seem as a favorable shadow, but in reality, is a malevolent and hostile being. He is left alone and is infuriated because of the abandonment he endures from his creator, the very minute he is born. Frankenstein chooses to shun him because he is immensely disgusted by its physical appearance. For example, this is shown by the resentment the creature shows when he states, ...Yet you, my creator, detest and spurn me... (Shelley 111) In addition, the disfigured beast also portrays the obsessive behavior of ambition, which makes him mentally identical to his maker, against whom he seeks revenge. However, his objective is mainly focused on finding his master and making him suffer for the unethical acts that he has committed. Eventually he meets his creator and demands him to create a female mate, someone who he can relate to and share the similar grotesque persona with. Temporarily he receives assurance upon his request, but later Frankenstein reneges on his vow. This causes the creature to threaten his creator and swear that he will exact revenge upon him and his family. Given the fact that William has already been murdered and Justine was framed for it, Frankenstein cannot ignore the powerful threat. The wretch is an incredible mastermind when it comes to committing murder because he flees multiple times and successfully manages to avoid leaving any evidence behind. His passion to destroy his creator blinds him while he takes the lives of the innocent. This is proven when step by step, he takes away all the members with whom his maker shares a close bond. Soon, the creature murders Henry Clerval, Frankenstein s dearest childhood friend and promises him, I will be with you on your wedding night. (Shelley 206) These concepts support how the scientist provokes his creation to hatred and his family to sadness with his negligence, due to his selfish, misguided ambition to prioritize his research before his loved

The idea of saving people vs. allowing people to die or commit suicide is at the very essence of one of the most debated and controversial dilemmas today. As long as there is difficulty in determining rationality in suicide, this controversy will remain (Butts amp; Rich, 2008). • 17. Conscience In The Canterbury Tales The Prioress s portrait is the first portrait of the General Prologue in which Chaucer displays satire. Her portrait shows that although she is a prioress, she is not well suited for life in the church and that she needs to work on a major part of her job: her conscience. Chaucer mentions her conscience twice within her portrait, but the word is never used in context of her clerical responsibilities, which Chaucer never mentions even though they should be one of her main priorities. The word is instead used to praise her on her courtly appearance. Chaucer s use of the word conscience as praise in The Prioress Portrait allows him to expose her shortcoming as a prioress without explicitly criticizing her. In fact, the title of the poem alone provides all of the exposition needed to understand that this piece is set up as a mother s advice to her son. The imagery of a staircase opens up the work, which begins, Well, son, I ll tell you: / Life for me ain t been no crystal stair (Hughes 1 2). Clearly, this woman s life has been difficult. More than that, by using imagery of tacks, splinters, and torn up boards, the mother is telling her son that at times her life has been outright dangerous. It is no mistake that Hughes chooses to use images of objects that can easily do physical harm. Lines three through seven confirm that the mother s life journey has been more than hard; indeed, it has been perilous. However, as the poem continues, mother tells son that she has always managed to advance in spite of the obstacles on her particular staircase. But all the time / I se been a climbin on, / And reachin landin s, / And turnin corners, / And sometimes goin in the dark / Where there ain t been no light (Hughes 8 13). During these lines, the tone of the poem slowly turns from hopeless to hopeful. True, the mother s life has been dangerous a fraught with obstacles, and yet she has thus far overcome each one of her challenges. The phrases, reachin landin s and turnin corners instill a sense of success in the mind of the reader, as both are common colloquial sayings that reflect a reprieve from hardship or a change for the better. Even through the darkness, still the mother climbs on. In other words, though she is at times unsure of her current position, she never loses sight of her

McCarthy began his hearings in order to identify what he believed was a Communist conspiracy, and stop the supposed Communist infiltration into the government. Democracy in the society favors equal rightsand believes in the freedom of speech as well as the view of the minority groups in the society. Democracy is based on the principles of the rule of majority and rights of individuals. A democratic society is where all government levels are made accessible to the people (Jensen Romanowski 30). Certain values define a democratic society, and this may include life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, the common good, justice, diversity, equality, truth, popular sovereignty, patriotism, equality, general accord among others. This paper discusses each of these values and also determines which of these values represent the highest level of a democratic society. These democratic values represent the fundamental beliefs as well as the basic principles of the constitution which unit all people in a given nation (Christman 242). The common good The common good refers to a situation where every member of the society works together so as to benefit every member of the community. Examples of the common good by the government of

A stars brightness and magnitude are connected to each other. The lower numerical value of the magnitude the brighter the star will appear. Conducting this lab first we went through the steps oh how to find the apparent magnitude of the sun at different distances. This experience walked us through how the distance has a direct affect on the apparent magnitude of a star. It also noted the change of astronomical units to parsecs. Secondly, we completed a couple more table s of the comparison of apparent magnitude to the distance of the stars Sirius and Betelgeuse. Even though these

The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky Before me sat a young couple. It was not our first meeting. They came often for counsel. We just are struggling in life, they exclaimed at the beginning of an evening session. What are you struggling with? I replied. As usual, a confused maze and daze of wandering contemplations ensued. Well, we just don t know. We are just not happy. Oh, we love each other, and things are very good, but . . . well, life just seems sort of empty and meaningless. Do you know what I mean? Here sitting before me was a couple in their thirties. They enjoyed three beautiful daughters. They lived in a mortgage free home. She was very attractive. He was a tall strong good looking man. Both possessed good jobs, drove nice cars, enjoyed many friends, but . . . well, as she put it often, We are just not happy. After several visits, I asked, What do you really want? They replied, Ah, well, guess we really don t know. What does we don t know mean? So, some contemplative homework was in order. Their assignment was to begin thoroughly assessing their lives through the lens of one question, For what do I live? Upon returning the next week, the couple sat in front of me with blank wordless tablets. Did you do your homework? Confusingly, she fumbled, We really tried. Really, we did. We

Discrimination And Personality Development In Adulthood Paper Lee, Angie PSYC 100 Dec. 7, 2015 Perceived Discrimination and Personality Development in Adulthood In this study, researchers focused on whether experiencing discrimination affects personality changes in adults. Their reason to believe this is because normally, there are predictable changes in an adult s personality, as part of the Five Factor Model . Researchers in this study predicted that there will be increases in experiencing negative emotions, decreases in being trusting, decreases in being able to be organized and disciplined, as well as being able to be open to try new things. Researchers conducted this experiment by taking two nationally large samples: one in the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) and one in the Midlife in the United States (MIDUS), each with a follow up interval. In the Health and Retirement Study, Americans were taken at the ages of 50 and older. These participants were interviewed in 2 years and in the interview they received a questionnaire in which they answered questions regarding experience with discrimination and a measure of personality traits. In The Hero and the God, Campbell rationalizes that all heroes have the same character traits and follow the same process or steps in their stories. Campbell also justifies that no matter where or when the herowas from the stories are all the xeroxes. These steps that he explains are separation, initiation, and return. First and foremost, Campbell has divided separation, initiation, and return into subcategories which are; The Call to Adventure, Supernatural Aid/ The Helper, Trials and Triumphs, The Return and Wisdom or Knowledge Gained. The first step of the process is The Call to Adventure.

Over the past years both assessment are well balance assessment systems that gather very important information. These assessments are for students achievements to strive to highest to success of learning. In this paper I will provide information that will distinguish the different roles of each education assessment in schools. It will provide studies of assessments related to subjects when preparing the quality and access of education. Assessment systems are generated in a timely matter that provides information in the educational system to the next level on a large scale. When dealing with high quality scale assessments are for a purpose. Assessments can be sometimes not helpful sometimes when teachers improve their instruction to modify their method to students. Students will take assessments at the end of the school year when instructor activities are completed. Then it comes to a point when teachers will not receive test scores and goals until later, as the students have moved to the next grade level. And thirdly, the results that teachers receive usually lack the level of detail needed to target specific improvements (Barton, 2002; Kifer, 2001). Many assessments are for improvement for students learning in tests, writing, and other assessments when teachers administer students in class on a daily basis. When teachers approve of the different results they are directed

  • 36. The Crystal Land Poem Meaning The Crystal Land: Constructing and Destroying Zembla By shifting focus to the imagery of crystal, which carries contrasting connotations from the windows of the previous narrative, Nabokov also shifts the setting from the realm of reality to that of Kinbote s fantasy. The delicate extravagance generally associated with crystal can be seen as a representation of the unattainable, subjective realm both internal authors fundamentally strive for. The fact that crystal is able to refract light due to the presence of lead also supports that as it alludes to the idea of the false azure projected by the windowpane in Shade s poem. Furthermore, both Zembla and the ambiguous realm Shade portrays in the first stanza of his poem are dubbed the crystal land. This continual reflection of images from the ... While the rose stone doesn t initially seem to belong to the semantic field of glass, here Nabokov is referring to the rose quartz crystal. By using the word stone, however he evokes the juxtaposition of nature and glass imagery from the first narrative. By synthesizing the two symbols here, he can thus shift the meaning of crystal to act as a barrier entrapping the narrator within his fantasy. Furthermore, by placing Kinbote in the same voyeuristic role as in the first narrative, Nabokov is able to once again convey Kinbote s inability to transcend his fantasy due to his dissociation from reality. In effect, by including the fantasy narrative, Nabokov has the freedom for romanticized invention which allows him to literally imprison Kinbote in a crystal palace. This acts as a representation of the idea of the glass house explored in the first

This statement is a positive reflection of the services provided by the caring staff and volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). Families with severely ill children under the age of 18, who are undergoing treatment from local hospitals, are grateful for this temporary home away from home. It was the aspiration of Fred Hill, a professional football player for the Philadelphia Eagles, to provide a comfortable place where these families could get a good night s rest and a hot meal while visiting their hospitalized children. Essay about Eumenides The Importance of Gender in Aeschylus Oresteia Gender is made explicit as a theme throughout the Oresteia through a series of male female conflicts and incorrectly gendered characters dominated by the figure of Clytemnestra, a woman out of place. This opposition of gender then engenders all the other oppositions of the trilogy; conflicts of oikos and polis, chthonic and Olympian, old and young can be assigned to female and male spheres respectively. In this essay I will look at how the polis examines itself in terms of gender by focusing on the Eumenides exploration of the myth of matriarchy, issues of the conflict between oikos and polis and the use of speech within the polis. Not only has the sex of the owners changed but also so has that of the source of the inspiration but it is Zeus that Apollo speaks for (Eum. 19). This transition to a world ordered by men is complemented by images of Apollo s journey to Delphi; the manly god of fire Hephaestos civilizes this female savage country (Eum. 14) which has been bequeathed by the female deities and a male head of state, Delphos (Eum. 16), who is there to welcome Apollo and his new male order. The play opens with a hopeful precedent for a return to a proper patriarchal society. The Eumenides brings to mind other myths, Zeitlin notices that the trial scene has strong connections with another Athenian myth of a trial that also is very concerned with gender. Athena had to compete with Poseidon for the city of Athens and this was decided by a vote. This was during a time when women had the right to vote, and lead promiscuous lives and no one knew who his father was. The women side with Athena and they out number the men by one and so Athena wins. The women however must be punished for the use of their power and so patriarchal society is installed.1 Whether Athenians felt at all uncomfortable with this founding myth of their female patron deity is debateable but Athena s famous speech (Eum. 750 756) has been interpreted as a returning of the favour. Athena may be siding with the male here but we are reminded of her ties

The electricity Act which was enforced in 2003 for the generation of renewable energy, providing sufficient support and facilitating its purchase was the first formal process in promoting clean energy (solar energyin India). Other energy policies and acts like National Tariff policy 2006, National rural electrification policies 2006 and semiconductor policy 2007 have provided ground for the establishment of standalone off grid renewable energyand also subsidised manufacturing of solar panels (solar energy in India). The installed capacity of solar power plant which was 161 MW in 2010 increased up to 4097 MW till July 2015 (Phillips, 2014).During the year 2014 2015, there has been 42 % increase in the solar power installed capacity adding up 1112 MW in the renewable energy pool (Power brochure India). Recently on August 2015, India has turned The Cochin International Airport into entirely solar powered airport producing 48 KWh of energy which is assumed to save 300,000 tons of Equivalent carbon in the next 25 years (Greenberg, 2015). This has been considered as a great achievement in clean energy development in India and around world. Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Rajasthan, are the leading states in solar energy production in India. The fist symbol I would mention is darkness. As I stated earlier, it is primarily a symbol of removal from God and the light, the prescence of evil. The ever present darkness represents some undercurrent of evil that runs throughout the story. Cats are also an important symbol. The first sign we get of any cats is the sound of their painful yowling . Later Felipe sees some of them being burned alive. Some of the things cats can represent are independence and self sufficiency. Their destruction leads one to believe that Felipe s independence is being replaced by dependence and his self sufficiency is being replaced by reliance on Aura. At The Heart Of The Phoenix At the Heart of The Phoenix There is no clear definition that describes what hipness is, but it involves a group of people that are drawn to oppose the mainstream culture, copy the African American style, and incorporate it into theirs. Hipster culture is often promoted by literature, films, places, clothing, and music. They are individuals characterized by love for outsiders, language that means more than it says, and grimy sense of nobility (Leland 10). On The Waterfront Film Analysis A few years before the release of On the Waterfront (Elia Kazan, 1954), the House Un American Activities Committee investigated alleged Communists in Hollywood. Among those under investigation, Elia Kazan elected to release names of others involved in the same movement (Neve 66). This event sparked intense controversy in Hollywood, and it forced the people he uncovered to either release more names or be blacklisted from filmmaking. Through an early example of film authorship, Kazan was able to relate scenes throughout the movie to his personal experiences with HUAC. Within the Classic Hollywood Narrative, Kazan s directorial creativity allows him to develop his ideas through the typical structure and expand his deeper thoughts through the allegory of the waterfront. A majority of the film stays within the Classic Narrative Style, but some scenes will venture outside the realm of the typical structure.
