Research Paper On Dodo Bird
The Mysterious Dodo
Picture yourself running through the woods as quickly as your legs can move you, with a heap of
emotions running through your brain. You feel betrayed, offended, helpless, terrified. You had
never been an aggressive animal. You were friendly, you didn t eat animals, and it s not like you
had the abilities to overpower anything if you did eat them. This may aid your imagination of what
the dodo bird went through while being hunted down by the Portuguese. The dodo bird may seem
like a tedious animal; However, the bird, it s misconception, and how it became extinct are
intriguing in a way that you may find odd.
The dodo bird is not an extremely famous bird, like the beautiful parrot, or the perfectly pink
flamingo. Many people aren t educated on what the bird was genuinely like, or even what the
bird is. The dodo is a flightless bird from an island in the Indian Ocean called Mauritius. It is part
of the Raphidae family(Dodo 1), which consists of pigeons and doves. The dodo clings to the
forest in Mauritius and has been extinct since the 17th century(Extinct Bird 1), eating only nuts,
fruits, or seeds it found on the ground(Viral Stats). The dodo bird has a comical appearance, that
one could only imagine. It s unique visuals were small useless wings, thick yellow legs, and a
tuft of feathers high on its rear end (Dodo 2). These odd characteristics made it easy for people to
deride the dodo bird. In terms of size, the dodo was larger than a turkey, it

Christina Rossetti Biography
Let s skip all the small talk and get straight to my story, trust me you ll thank me later it s pretty
long. I was born December 5, 1830 in London, England. My parents are my talented father
Gabriele Rossetti, and my beautiful mother Frances Polidori. I am the youngest of 4 children.
See there s my oldest brother William Michael Rossetti, he was always a pain in butt. Then there
s Dante Gabriel Rossetti, he was more of the silent type which was odd, but hey i m not gonna
complain. Then there s my stuck up sister Maria Francesca Rossetti. Last but definitely not least
there s me Christina Rossetti.I wouldn t call myself the average child because i was far from that,

My mother started teaching to keep my family out of poverty, and my sister became a live in
governess which i dreaded by the way. When i was 14 i suffered a nervous breakdown and left
school. After that depression and illness followed right behind. In 1845 i had health problems.
From one doctor he diagnosed me with just a normal health problem, but another doctor thought
i was plain crazy and said i was mental. In 1847 that s when i really began experimenting with
writings such as verse forms as sonnets, hymns, and ballads. I mostly imitated my favorite poets
which are my father, and Dante Alighieri. In my late teens i became engaged to a painter named
James Collison. The engagement ended in 1850 when he reverted to Catholicism. I also became
involved with a linguist but that ended for the same reasons but we remained friends. My career
was going great until October 29 1893 i was diagnosed with breast cancer. Although the tumor
was removed i suffered from a recurrence on September 14 1894. Finally i died in Bloomsbury,
Torrington square at the age of 64. You re probably thanking me right now for skipping the small

Compare And Contrast Lincoln And The Civil War
The American Civil War was undeniably one of the most influential events in the formation of the
United States and what it is today. There were several prominent figures on both the side of the
Union and the Confederacy. Two important individuals from this era were President Abraham
Lincoln and General Nathan Bedford Forrest. These two men fought on opposite sides of the war,
Lincoln supporting the Union and Forrest the Confederacy. They both found great success during
the war, despite their drastically differing approaches and beliefs. Of the two, Lincoln had a more
positive and lasting influence on the United Statesand the values held to this day.
Forrest and Lincoln both had a strong effect on society and the American people at the time.
Lincoln impacted the North heavily with his beliefs and values, whereas Forrest had a strong hold
on those supporting the Confederacy. He primarily had an influence over the soldiers and troops
under his command. While Forrest only directly held the attention of his troops, Lincoln being the
President of the United States, had more of an impact on the citizens through public contact and
delivering speeches. President Lincoln and General Forrest encouraged different qualities in their
followers. Lincoln valued equality, empathy and freedom. Forrest was a general in the Confederate
army and therefore focused much more on action and success on the battlefield to spread his cause.
Lincoln, inversely, focused much more on gaining traction

The Ghost of Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay
The Ghost of Beloved
One of the most engaging arguments about Toni Morrison s book Beloved is centered around the
nature of the girl Beloved. The argument is whether Beloved is simply a young woman who
herself had suffered the horrors of slavery, or the ghost of Sethe s crawling already? baby girl. The
evidence shows that Morrison intended Beloved to be the ghost of the crawling already? girl.
It has been said that there are basically two reasons why ghosts walk: they have either unfinished
business to attend to of have died a very violent death. The crawling already? girl fits both of these
profiles. She died without growing up, without knowing why she died. As a result, she has
unfinished business with her mother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Beloved arrived, the scene was described with, Here Boy nowhere in sight. Here Boy could
sense that Beloved was the ghost and didn t want to be hurt again. Also, at the end of the book
when Beloved was already gone, Here Boy returned.
One of Paul D s biggest questions about Beloved was her skin. Her skin was like new skin,
lineless and smooth, including the knuckles of her hands . Most women in that time had lined,
callused, scarred hands by the time they were nineteen the scarring from playing when they were
children and lines and calluses from the housework. The crawling already? girl died when she
was one with baby new skin. It didn t have the time to become spoiled by labor and play.
Beloved also had trouble keeping her head up. She would, [rest] her head in the palm of her hand
as though it were too heavy for her neck alone. When Sethe killed the baby girl, she held its head
up because she had cut so deeply, it almost severed the girl s head. If the Beloved were the ghost,
she would have great troubles holding her head up because her neck had been severed.
When a person dies, certain things happen to their bodies. For instance, they become very cold
because the heart is no longer pumping blood through the body. All the blood stops, and settles
everything cools off. Also, bodies become very dehydrated because their is no more fluids being
ingested. When Beloved arrives, she is very cold and drink a lot of water. An

Diet Of A Man s Diet
When a couple is trying to conceive, there are obvious things that the woman can do to improve
their chances of conception and improve their chances of a healthy pregnancy. For example,
women often change their diets or begin taking folic acid. Yet most people do not think about
how important the potential dad s diet can be. A man s diet (the way that he eats and nutritional
intake) can have a huge influence on his sex drive (necessary for obvious reasons if you want to
make a baby together), sperm count, and sperm health. Although men do create sperm pretty
much constantly, I was shocked when I found out what a long process it is. It takes sperm
approximately twelve to fourteen weeks to mature! (1) That means that the health of a man is
important for months before conception. Diet plays an important role in creating adequate
numbers of healthy sperm. So what should dads to be be eating? The single most effective
dietary way for a man to improve their fertility would probably be to eat more zinc. Zinc plays a
crucial role in sperm production, and semen is extraordinarily high in zinc. (2) Sources of zinc
include seafood especially oysters, red meat, pumpkin seeds, dairy products, and brown rice. (3) In
order to improve your body s absorption of zinc, eat it in conjunction with Vitamins C and E. Most
women take folic acidbefore conception (in planned pregnancies at any rate) and during pregnancy
to reduce the risk of spinal bifida and other birth defects (4).

A Gui Is The Revolution Way Of Using And Pointers,...
A GUI is the revolution way of using and pointers, windows, menus, and icons interfaces
incorporating into UI elements. These features allow users to interact with applications across
innumerable platforms like PDAs, mobile devices, and laptops. Thus, let s take a moment to
imagine this scenario: How would you feel if you entered a library in hopes of finding the ideal
book for a research paper, only to find nothing but endless rows of unlabeled sections? Perhaps
you could use the computer to access the section and a name, but the effort is pointless since they
sections are unidentified. To add to your disarray not only are the sections not categorized, but
books are scattered among sections having no designated area. Clearly, this layout classifies as
mind boggling and nonsensical. Furthermore, for this purpose developers must heed the design
phase by not only being creative but thinking like a user as well. Developers must concentrate on
those factors that render an application user friendly. Clarity should be the first step towards
ensuring an application functionality; the user should not feel confounded. On the contrary, they
ought to perceive the application as informative, easy to use and deploy the application with
confidence. Discuss whether or not the application behavior follows your definition of Good GUI

Annotation Of Sophocles Dover Beach
Matthew Arnold begins Dover Beach with a beautiful and peaceful image of a sea at night, but
by the end of the poem he strips away the beauty, and shows the reader the nightmare, and horror
behind the calm ocean. The speaker describes a lovely scene with the water meeting the land, and
the moon glimmering off of the water, which creates a captivating image for the reader. The
speaker even makes the reader imagine the sounds of the beach Listen! you hear the grating roar
(9). This puts the reader on the beach with him, creating a peaceful, and blissful escape from the
world for a moment. The speaker creates an allusion to the an ancient playwright Sophocles, Heard
it on the Aegean, and it brought (16). This stanzaforces the reader to go back in time, and realize the
people that seem so far because of years walked the same beaches, and observed the same seas.

The speaker describes it as sweet, but then he describes Of the night wind, down the vast edges
drear (27). The speaker sees the night as an evil, that howls around humans, in our lonely and
vulnerable world. Night is also the last word of the poem, which leaves the reader in the dark,
lonely, confused, faithless world, with feelings of abandonment, and fear. The moon is also a key
part of the night, bringing the light to the night, but the light does not seem completely good either.
Where the sea meets the moon blanched land (9). The speaker seems to be hinting that even the
moon has evil in it; blanched makes the moon seem unnaturally pale, and almost a little like
death. The final two stanza shows the speaker s opinion of the world related to faith, and it
appears that the speaker has lost his faith. And we here as on a darkling plain (35). This is a
simile to the faithful ugliness of the world. The speaker believes that the night he sees of calm and
tranquility is an illusion, and the real world is the roaring of the

Deception Of Women In Richard III
A main aspect of Richard s, Duke of Gloucester, personality is his hatred of women, possibly due
to most woman within Richard III holding more knowledge than the men, in regards to Richard s
deceiving nature. The only woman who is outsmarted by Richard is Lady Anne.
Deception, as well as their relationship, is crucial to the overall plot. The character of Lady Anne
has crucial dramatic functions within the play because her character supports Richard s growing
reputation of manipulating and morally wrong motives. When she is seduced by Richard, it shows
his success at manipulation, which eventually does fail in the later acts of the play. After
successfully slaying Lady Anne s husband, King Henry, Richard is still able to gain her hand in
marriage using persuasive language. Through this act, Lady Anne becomes a blocking figure for
Richard because he has to conquer her, but he also has a pre existing disadvantage regarding the
situation: Lady Anne is aware that Richard just killed her husband. Whenever they interact with
each other, the use of formal language is present. Due to this, it has the capability to thoroughly
show the tension between them, as well as Lady Anne s attitude towards him. She tells him Thou
mayst be damned for that wicked deed! (1.2. 102) and then continues by telling Richard that And
thou unfit for any place but hell, (1.2. 106) which isn t only insulting but also portrays him as a
supernatural creature for the audience to picture, more

British Imperialism In Africa
Overview of British Imperialism
Imperialism is when a world power colonizes a smaller country or kingdom, and then proceeds to
exploit the land and resources of the kingdom or country. Through the majority of the 18th century,
imperialism was a dominant force on global relations. During the peak of the Age of Imperialism,
Queen Victoria and her British empire dominated the world. British Imperialism started in the late
1700 s because of population growth and the advances in technology industrialism that occurred
during the Industrial Revolution. The areas that the British imperialized during this time period
include India, a large part of Africa, and Australia.

Social Darwinism takes this concept, applies it to humans and states that if a culture or kingdom
cannot protect itself from other cultures kingdoms, it should not exist. This is where the term
survival of the fittest comes from; only the strongest cultures will survive. Similarly, the quest to
spread Christianity around the world as a prevailing religion became and infectious force brought
about by Imperialism. Many of the people who decided to settle different countries were people
who were looking for new opportunities, with the exception of many of those who settled in
Australia, which was used as isolation territory for dangerous criminals. Imperialism reached its
height during the early mid 1800 s, and the decline of Britain s imperial empire was around the
1960 s.
The urge to expand the British Empire led the British to seek out and conquer India. They
controlled India from around the 1750 s to 1947. Before they colonized India and made it part
of the British Empire, the British first began trading with India in the early 1600 s. Britain first
started exerting control over parts of India in the late 1700 s with the start of a trade business
known as the East India Company. They chose to imperialize India because of military benefits
and Indian commodities such as spices and precious metals. By expanding their empire, the leading
world powers active at the time were able to

Essay about Bartelby the Scrivener
Bartelby the Scrivener Herman Melville, an American novelist and major literary figure
explored psychological themes in many of his works. Through his writing, Melville recreated a
part of life that existed then, and is prevalent in our society today. Low self esteem along with
self perception and how others perceive us can be a factor leading to depression. Depression, if left
untreated can become so severe that it is possible to cause someone to lose the will to live. I will
clarify this illnessand it s ill effects in the story Bartleby the Scrivener , by Herman Melville.
Bartleby, the main character in this story, starts out a worker in the dead letter officein Washington.

Bartleby s existence as we were led to believe seemed like a death in life existence. Bartleby was
a man incapable of experiencing emotions and isolated himself from his environment. A lofty
brick wall, black by age and everlasting shade. A lot of Bartleby time was spent staring outside
at the blank wall, which seemed to be a reflection of the isolation and loneliness in his own life.
As time passed Bartleby verbally stated when asked to comply with his work responsibilities I
prefer not to. His protest for the work was very direct and yet very passive. Bartleby seems to
have a distinctive, dysfunctional personality. But he wrote on silently, palely, mechanically . This
passage shows the debilitating effects of such a depressed life. I prefer not to seemed to be the
only verbal communication he was capable of at the present time. Although he appeared to be
referring to his work subconsciously his true feelings for death were stated, as I prefer not to.
As the story continues it becomes obvious that Bartleby could not be saved from himself, nor did
he want help from anyone else. Bartleby seemed to put up a brick wall between him and the
world. He would not allow anyone into his self destructive deteriorating world. Strangely huddled
at the base of the wall, his knees drawn up, and lying on his sides, his head touching the cold stone,
I saw the wasted Bartleby. From this excerpt, we

The Geological Impact of Nuclear Testing at the Nevada Test Site
The Nevada Test Site is an area designated by the United States Government for Nuclear Weapons
testing. It is located in rural southern Nevada and is about the size of the State of Rhode Island.
This location was founded in 1952 as one of 5 on land sites designated for this task. Above ground
nuclear or atmospheric testing was conducted at the Nevada Test Site until 1958. There was a
break in testing until the United States decided to begin underground testing in 1962. There were a
total of 828 nuclear tests performed underground during these years. In 1963 a limited Nuclear Test

Nevada Test Site is built on top of a chain of several volcanic and seismically active locations. Even

During the years of above ground or atmospheric testing 119 tests were conducted. The majority of
these tests were conducted using helium balloons, and tethered systems. There were also a few
crater tests conducted during this time, these were conducted by submerging a small nuclear

The problem which had arose this year, we had to get into groups and decide what project to
undergo for this second year of the degree course. When groups were created we were sharing
ideas of project we would do and if they were possible to make or not. We could not have a small
project because we were in a group of 3 so we had to make sure the project was big enough to do
for group of 3 members. The purpose of the project was to build an electrical and electronic
based project which involved circuitry. To start with, we had to create a gantt chart and conduct
a feasibility study to know if our project would be a success or not, and gantt chart to give a
rough estimation of how long the project would take to build and test. We first started looking
into what sensors we would use and how they would be connected up to give us readings, so we
had researched microcontrollers to use because that is what all sensors would be connected upto.
The most suitable firmware was the arduino in the end. We had researched weather monitoring
systems and had also gone to have a look at a few; we looked at how everything would function
and how the readings were given out. The circuitry carried out was a good experience seeing as we
were electrical and electronic students. The project was much harder than we had anticipated, but
throughout the year we had learnt many new skills and qualities, including how to use a

The Immigration And Customs Enforcement Essay
ICE stands for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they deal with matters concerning
border control, customs, trade and immigration to insure public safety and homeland security.
Their priorities focus on preventing terrorism and the illegal movement of items, as well as
people. Within ICE, there are three subgroups that fall into specialized tasks for the agency, such
as Homeland security investigations (HSI) and the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
Although being a fairly new agency there has been more than a few controversies on how ICE
handles the illegal immigrants, however, since 9/11 the U.S has been trying to find the most
effective ways to stop terrorism. So, that also means that not everyone would agree with the tactics
that ICE used to solve the problem for those specific cases.
The U.S has been known as the land of opportunities, so of course people from all over the world
would try to leave their countries that weren t thriving economically after World War I, this lead to
immigration into the US to rise significantly. Every year, the State Department issued a limited
number of visas; only those immigrants who had obtained them and could present valid visas were
permitted entry. Because of the limited number of visas, the number of illegal attempts into the
country began to occur. The Border Patrol was established when illegal aliens and entries started
becoming more frequent, the strict guidelines also causing deportation to go on as well.

Socrates Allegory Of The Cave
In Confessions, Saint Augustine recounts his infancy, adolescence, and adulthood, which entails a
journey from different philosophies, ideologies, and religions. Confessions is considered the first
autobiography and is a model for Christian writers into the middle ages. Augustine s gives
anecdotes and uses biblical references to make insightful messages about his sinful youth and mid
adulthood. His main struggle is with his search for understanding truth, good, and evil, while
being sidetracked by his lust. Eventually, he is able to rise above his desire for sex, breaking the
shackles which held him to a life without God. This parallels Socrates allegory of Cave in Plato s
Republic, where humanity breaks their chains and leaves the cave through education. In both
Confessions and the Republic, escaping the cave is the ultimate goal, but their means of getting out
pose the question: Is Augustine s leaving the cave different than Plato s famous allegory, or do their
similarities illuminate an innate disposition for humans?

I am the first to arrive to my class, and I am instantly hit with a strong chemical odor. Scrunching
my nose up in disgust, I take my seat at the front of the class. Soon, other students start arriving,
and they complain about the smell. Our history teacher, a plump middle aged woman we call Mrs.
B, enters the room right before the bell rings to signal the start of class and apologizes for the
smell, stating that someone in her previous class had vomited, and the janitor had to clean the area
because of that.
Mrs. B says that we can have a free day to do whatever we want since we did exceptionally well on
a test yesterday. I choose to read a book; some of the girls in class decide to have a conversation

Parable Of The Sower By Octavia E. Butler
Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler can be categorized as an environmental novel, a
utopian tale within dystopian tale and hero s journey. A utopian novel is defined as a fiction
where readers find characteristics that they would like to implement in society. This is a novel
about a young woman named Lauren along with others who finds herself in a prisoned like
world. They find themselves in a society where everything is controlled and offers them no
possibility of ever living a normal life. There are no jobs for the young, broken marriages and
homes, poor economy and worst yet, constant fear as thieves and drug addicts rule their lives
outside the walls. In this novel we meet a brave young womanwho embarks on the journey to
freedom and exhibits the quality as a female leader and also inspires people to travel with her. This
story strongly fits the qualities of a feminist novel as it illustrates a African American women who
is determined to succeed in an exceptionally difficult circumstance.

Indiana Jones Movie Analysis
China, Vietnam, India, and other Eastern countries are being falsely depicted in a stereotyped way
that is deemed as exhibiting a colonialist prejudice in many of the Western movies. The term for
this wrongful representation of these Eastern countries is called orientalism. The use of orientalism
is not an uncommon thing in western movies, of which, Indiana Jones movies are of no exception.
Most of Indiana Jones movies take place in the Eastern countries, thus, one can see how they
orientalized the citizens and the culture of that country. First and foremost, the portrayal of
Goddess Kali or Ma Kali in Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, is absolutely erroneous. It is
true that Ma Kali is associated with death, but rather than death of... Show more content on

Void And The Void
Architecture performs the new formulation and reproduction by formatting actions in order to
accommodate to the existing environment. The basic practice of the architectural space is to
reform the object of architecture on the site. People have built a natural environment for themselves
by starting the first shelter since they are in the world. The built environment that undergoes
continually a transformation and change has evolved to be closely associated with people and the
lives of people. At this point, the relationship between architectural and urban voids came into
prominence. So, what is the void? How is it designed? And how can the void contact its inside and
outside? or What is the potential of voids?
Many theorists, architects, and philosophers have asked these questions for over two thousand year
but answers are still uncertain. As a general thing, the void is about absence instead of existence, or
about nothing instead of a thing. However, it may be said that void as emptiness is defined with a
mutual understanding. Void as a conceptual topic could provide the inspiration for art and
architecture. The existence of voids could reach to individuals and society thanks to art and
architectural works. Although void and fullness are in opposite, they always create each other.

I guess no because the term of void is very vague on account of constituting a multi layered
fiction. It is unidentified in the first time and can not be poured into question. Therefore, it can be
thought that void is a notion that allows diverse expansions. In daily language, the notion of the
void has a clearer sense. As a noun, void refers both the physical emptiness and the deficiency of
something. As an adjective, it refers a position and a place that is not occupied and generated.
These meanings of void focus on emptiness but actually, void is not empty

John Christopher Dep Essay
As we have discussed in class, star persona is when an actor or actress have been categorized into
specific roles because of previous similar characters they chose to perform as in multiple movies,
skits, and or television series. Obviously, as a new comer into the Hollywood acting business
coming from Kentucky with his wife, John Christopher Depp had the power to become anyone
he wanted to be, and even now he has the power to try to be the person he might not want to be,
but need to be for the better sake of his career. Starting off his career with such a strong force
really allowed Depp to be launched further into the television and filmindustry. As stated in IMDb,
Depp starred in a low budget horror film, The Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), roughly around
$1,800,000. And in 1987, Depp went onto the hit television show 21 Jump Street to replace Jeff

Symbols Or Myths As A Representation For Something That Is...
One theme that has come up in multiple readings this semester is the theme of symbols or myths
as a representation for something that is not exactly true. Roland Barthes best describes what a
myth is in his book, Mythologies. The use of such myths and representations that was the most
educational and influential was Guy Debord s, The Society of the Spectacle where Debord
describes how society is made up a false life that is deeply intertwined with the real world to an
extant that you can not distinguish the two. In both of these cases, a common theme arrises from
the analysis of representations. This mutual theme is that representations tend to hold dominion
over people and lead to the idealization of appearances. This modern idea is... Show more content

Debord believes it came about due to its monopolization over these representations. With its
control over representations, a spectacle can essentially control its own image, causing a passive
acceptance (theory 12) by the people due to its appearance as a good thing. However, the reason
why Debord finds the spectacle s domination to be so dangerous and powerful is because of its
tautological nature which means it s end goal is also the means of its existence. The spectacle
aims only to further itself and increase its existence or prevalence. In doing so it creates a
requirement for obedience. If people do not view representations as they are meant to be
viewed, there is no possibility for argument, you simply become an outlier with no real chance
of fighting the overwhelming majority. The spectacle does one crucial thing in order to ensure
its longevity. It divides people. According to Debord, the spectacle even has a certain religious
aspect to it in the way it creates a type of illusion where humans attribute their existence to
something besides themselves. As Debord describes it, the spectacle is hence a technological
version of the exiling of human powers in a world beyond and the perfection of separation within
human beings (thesis 20). A modern day example of this that was not even present in Debord s
day is social media. We have become obsessed with how we are represented online, which

whirlpool spinning in the mind of Matt Fowler, a man who is trying to cope with the tragic
murder of his son; as the tide, acting through his wife, becomes increasingly overwhelming, Matt
is driven to seek revenge through the killing of Richard Fowler (Dubus 1123 1136). Years later, in

Within the argument, the cinematographer films the scene as a shot reverse shot, further implying
that Matt and Ruth are in conflict. One can see the veil depression places Ruth after Frank s death,
enabling her to ask Matt for the literal unspeakable task of murder; in a short story, one cannot read
silence, but the silence permeating the film speaks louder than the Dubus s words.
While in neither the film nor short story does Ruth outwardly express her desire for the death of
Richard, within the film, one is able to glimpse into the inner workings of Matt s mind,
understanding the emotional manipulation, brought on by his wife, he endures. Matt describes how
Ruth has concrete objections which he trie[s] to overcome and in his intent to do this[,] he
neglect[s] his own objects (1127); here, Dubus is indirectly telling readers this is the foundation
Ruth has previously built in her marriage, allowing her to manipulate Matt into carrying out tasks,
or specifically it (1136). Furthermore, several times in the short story, Matt convinces himself that
he [is] certain that [Ruth knows and] she [is] waiting for him for she knows (Dubus 1125, 1134). In
Field s adaptation, one can see the change in behavior and demeanor both Matt and Ruth undergo,

Challenges faced by Self Help Groups in India:
The following are the challenges faced by SHG s in India:
1. Inefficient marketing: TheDistrict Rural Development Agencies (DRDAs) organize melas of
the products of SHGs on regular basis. These exhibitions are organized at the block and district
levels. But, the frequency of such melas is very less. On account of this, SHG members do not
have a regular link with markets for selling their products.
2. Hurdles in getting loans: Banks do not trust the SHG members and the office bearers. Bank
defaulters have further aggravated this problem. In some cases, some members who are running

3.Irregular meetings: SHGs should meet regularly once in a week/fortnight/month as per the rules

and enable smooth functioning of SHGs. But in reality, monthly meetings are not taking place as

Lynching in the United States
In the case of lynching, discourses emerge from heated debates about the meaning of the practice;
these debates change over the long history of lynching in America. At different times in the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the term lynching has implied rather different historical acts
amongst the community. It has also been used to specify acts that indicated a wide range of distinct
motives, strategies, technologies and meanings, as well as a politically encumbered term. For many
African Americans who grew up in the South in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the threat
of lynchingwas mundane. Photographs and postcards illustrating the popular image of an angry

White southerners drew on prewar precedents from the vigilante movements with which landed
whites had suppressed landless whites, the brutal suppression of slave revolts and the relatively
rare ferocious mob punishment of an alleged rape or murder by a slave.
From the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, lynchings were thouroughly rooted in social
measures; communities carried out most of the mob killings. Class, ethnicity, and culture all
contributed to the inclination for lynching. The motivations behind lynchings are different in the
ways in which they used violence to render the understandings of race, social class, sexuality and
gender in crime and punishment. Most private mobs carried out lynchings to bring about division
in the community view and leaned towards killing their victims that were detained in the custody
of legal authorities. Small mobs utilized careful planning and leaned to delay their vigilantism for
some time after the commission of the supposed crime they were punishing. One way of
rationalizing it would be to say that some people regarded the execution of these mobs as holding
up the values of the community
Over the course of lynching s history, these mobs changed in size and strategies. Based on the level
of organization, historian John Ross recognized three primary groups of lynch mobs: those deriving

Summary Of Democracy In America By Alexis De Tocqueville
Alexis de Tocqueville s Democracy in America is a 1835 masterpiece about the growth of
democracy and the gradual disappearance of aristocracy. In attempts to help the French understand
the concept about this new form of government, he wrote the document talking about the New
World where the people rule instead of the nobles and kings. Two main differentiations are
discussed: selfishness versus individualism and aristocracy versus democracy.
The first idea that he compares is selfishness and individualism. In the very beginning of chapter
two, Alexis de Tocquevilledescribes how it is that in ages of equality [democracy] every man seeks
for his opinion within himself . In other words, the equality involved in democracy has influenced

Limiting Freedom of Speech
Support: When contacted by FBI with a NSL( National Security Letter) and asked for information,
you are then placed under a gag order. This means that you are forbidden from telling anyone that
the FBI has approached you and asked for this information on a person.
Example: An email provider is contacted by the government to hand over emails from someone
they are looking into, they are not allowed to release to the public this has occurred.
Support: The investigators have the ability to monitor any political or religious group without
necessary cause.
Support: This can cause people to be afraid to speak up, or speak out against something, because
anything no matter how private can be found.
Main Point II. Improper Search and Seizure
Support: Investigators may search houses, offices, papers, files, etc and seize any information found
without probable cause. (Because of the NSL)
Example: According to an analysis by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), out of the 11,129
reported uses of the Sneak and Peek Warrant tactic in 2013, only 51 cases (.5 percent) involved
suspected terrorism. The overwhelming majority (9,401 cases) were used for narcotics

Language Assessment Literacy
Language assessment literacy refers to the familiarity of the stakeholders with measurement
practices and the application of this knowledge to classroom practices and issues of assessing
language (Inbar Lourie, 2008). Appropriate assessment provides teachers with important
information about student performance and about the extent to which learning objectives have
been achieved in the classroom. Despite the importance of student progress assessment (Taylor,
2009; Scarino, 2013), many teachers and test users have a limited understand¬ing of assessment
essentials (Popham, 2009). Competencies that language teachers need to acquire in order to
develop assessment literacy include the ability to understand proper testing practices, use various
means of assessment, interpret assessment results, and use the results in their teaching (Boyles,
2005). Language teachers, who also fulfill the role of testers, want a practical text that includes
relevant activities. In addition to textbooks, other approaches to develop assessment literacy are
traditional as well as face to face workshops, online tutorials, reference frameworks, video projects,
pre conference workshops, and series of narrative accounts.
This study can be helpful for all stakeholders including language teachers who also are often
testers; an online tutorial is much more beneficial than other ways of assessment literacy, due to its
ease of access and no need for participation (Alderson Huhta, 2005). Using group

Theory of Montage in Pudovkin’s, Eisenstein’s and
Vertov’s...
Introduction
In the presented essay I will compare the style of work of selected artists in the montage of the
film. I will try to point out some general regularities and features of Soviet cinema. At the same
time I will try to capture especially what is common in their systems and similar or conversely
what differ. For my analysis, I will draw on the feature films of the Soviet avantgarde, namely these
are the movies The Battleship Potemkin (S. Eisenstein, 1925), Mother (V. Pudovkin, 1926) and The
Man with a movie camera (D. Vertov, 1929).

However his films are softer and more lyrical as Eisenstein, heroes are individualized and becomes
an important element of narrative. Right from the start Pudovkin went his innovator s way and

Pudovkin is dubbed as singer in the movie especially for the predominance of emotional elements
of intellectual. This doesn t mean that his revolutionary epopees are important only in terms of
itself topics. In his work wasn t overlooking the central idea that the montage is the essence of
aesthetics of film.
Different connections of contrasts (that were typical of the Eisenstein) by Pudovkin appear rarely.
Instead of these contrasts he used montage of analogies. For example, a second shot rarely used
for intensifying an impression from a first image. On the contrary, a director s effort is visible
when a main story line he tried to enrich it with new elements.
Mutually connected and unrelated images of outside the design concepts of director served to
reveal to inner state of the hero, as for example in the figure of the Mother.
Eisenstein s opinion was inclined to intellectual film, which lacked a fabulation and the main
character. Pudovkin understood a film as a relationship to the narrative.
Montage of the film Mother radiates peacefully from the story, from a particular environment, from
the heroes and it reaches metaphorical dimension. As we can see in the

Child And Teen Beauty Pageants
It is not easy to be in the public s eye and constantly being watched can take a toll on a person.
Hundreds of child stars have grown up to be consumed with depression, eating disorders, drug
and alcohol addiction, and severe self esteem issues. So why would children that perform in
child and teen beauty pageants be any different? They are constantly being judged by their
looks, their actions, their poise and posture, their attitude and behaviors, the list goes on and on.
That could severely affect the way these children see themselves as they get older. When a child
is constantly being watched and criticized in every aspect, they develop a complex and a need to
be perfect, when in fact perfection does not exist. This is when their depression or drug addictions
might seep in, when they realize they can never live up to the standards that others have set on
them. This is a very dangerous place to be, and no child or teenager should have to suffer through
such a time as this. Childhood should be full of playing outside with friends, going to the pool or
amusement park, visiting the beach or the mountains with family. It shouldn t consist of
maintaining perfection with all the fakeness day in and day out, or there could be some very real
consequences that might follow. Although there are massive amounts of negatives that go along

Deliberate authorial choices become crucial in getting the readers attention in a said literary work.
Authors spend their whole career developing these techniques to create a style that is their own.
Shirley Jackson displays her talent to the reader in her writing of a pessimistic short story that she
is most famous for. Her famous short storyThe Lotteryis one to keep the reader interested not only
in the content but in the way she presents it and the emotional toll that it has on the readers. The
story follows a town which partakes in a ritualistic lottery. Each household draws from a black

of the family gets stoned. Jackson presents an pessimistic story which reveals all the story s
meaning at the end. It is through her deceiving style, her deliberate technical choices, Shirley

blindly and the danger of misinterpreting religion and traditions, that is a result of evil hiding in the
ordinary elements of life. In the first reading of The Lottery, no reader suspects the events of the

Macbeth is a play about morals and how people can be easily influenced. The audience at the time
when the play was written were more superstitious than we are. They believed in witches and
thought that they were the devils disciples. They were believed to be able to control the weather,
blamed many things, such as outbreaks of disease on them.
The first people to meet the Witches are Banquo and Macbeth. They find the witches appearance is
vile. We can see this as Banquo says that (they) look not like the inhabitants of the earth. This shows
us that the witches are obviously strange, and probably misshapen in their appearance. Banquo also

the witches never say anything to Macbeth about murder; it is entirely his own idea. The murder
of Banquo is another example. The witches prophecies to Macbeth and Banquo plant the seed of
thought in Macbeth s mind Thou shalt get (father) kings. When Macbeth becomes king, he sees
this as a threat to his kingship and attempts to murder Banquo s son, Fleance. Although this fails,
Banquo is killed. Macbeth is greatly influenced by the witches at their second meeting, and takes
everything that they say literally. Their first warning to Macbeth is that he should be wary of
Macduff beware Macduff. In response to this, Macbeth ruthlessly murders Macduff s family. The
warning is the seed, but Macbeth thinks the rest for himself. The second warning tells Macbeth
that he can be harmed by any man of woman born. Macbeth takes this literally and says before the
battle What s the boy Malcolm? Was he not of woman born? However, we learn later a few scenes
later that Macbeth has taken this too literally and that it means natural. We also learn that Macduff
was not naturally born and so can harm Macbeth.
So what really is the role of the witches in Macbeth? I think that their role is to give Macbeth a
thought that they know he will try and expand on. The perfect example is foretelling his ascension
to the throne. They tell him he will become king but they don t tell him how. He just assumes he

Qin Shi Huang And The Unification Of China
As centuries pass, historians are still able to remember the achievements attained by the first
emperor of unified China. Although known as a ruthless ruler, we can acknowledge that the
successes he had were lasting and helpful for the future of China. Qin Shi Huang became the
first emperor of China at 220 BCE after his uncle passed the throne onto him and founded the
Qin Dynasty. During this time period, China was divided into many kingdoms. Qin s main goal
in life was to unify China under his rule. In order to do so, he waged war against the other six
major kingdoms. By 221 BCE, he was able to unify China under his rule. It was the first time that
China became unified. Qin Shi Huangwas able to create a large impact on China s history due to
the starting the idea of the Great Wall, developing a system of writing, and the unification of China.
Qin Shi Huang inherited the throne at the age of thirteen and was named as the Chinese head of
state of Qin. At the age of 38, Qin renamed himself the first emperor and called himself Shi
Huangdi. When he named himself as Shi Huang Di, he chose it because huangdi would tie
himself to the first king since he believed Huang outranked wang . During that time period, wang
was known to be king. He used di because it meant he had the divine right to rule, and shi meant
he was the first emperor of China. All in all, his name combined means the first emperor of
China. He changed his title because he believed that he deserved it since he was able to establish
a unified China. Qin Shi Huang did not recognize the past rulers as emperors because the past
rulers did not rule a unified state. He was then known as Qin Shi Huang to rulers after him. The
country was wealthy and powerful when Qin Shi Huang ruled the kingdom but after Qin died, the
dynasty fell apart.
Qin Shi Huang had a large impact on China s culture. He helped implement canals and roads for
easier travel. He started the imperial road system and created fast roads. He was extremely
influential in China s government. Qin declared that the round coins with a square shaped hole in
the center will be the currency of China. He named it the bang liang coin. The first emperor was
able to create a measuring

Narrative Essay On Co-Ops
On a cold, Thursday evening, Joey, Monica, Rachel, Ross, and Phoebe are each indulging in a
hot cup of coffee at Central Perk, waiting for their buddy, Chandler, to arrive. He should be here
soon, Joey states. It only takes 97 steps to get here from our apartment. He s had time for at least
85. Ross rolls his eyes and waves Rachel over so she can refill his coffee cup and take a break
from her tough waitressing job. You guys actually may want to go ahead and head home, Rachel
warns. What? Why s that? We don t have anything better to do than nothing, might as well do it
here. And we get free coffee here, Monica explains, lifting her coffee cup for Rachel s attention. As

Wait, I don t know if I m sold on these co ops yet, Monica intervenes. It sounds great and all, but
how do I know it s not too good to be true? Well, everything I ve said is true, Joey assures her.
And, you see, if the co op ever starts to switch around on you, then you have the power to do
something about it. Once you join, you become a member. Co ops are kinda like the United
States. You know how we get to choose what goes on because we re citizens? Members of co ops
get that, too. For example, if you didn t like, I don t know, the glow of your light bulbs, you
could tell your co op about it! Ross frowns. Joey, I don t think complaining about light bulbs
would work out, Ross tells him, but from what I understand, co ops always hear their members
out if they have a meaningful comment. I think that s what Joey means with his United States
analogy. Sounds like a good deal to me, Phoebe concludes and shrugs her shoulders. How do I
join, though? I don t have any qualifications, and I m unemployed. See, that s the beauty of a co
op! Joey exclaims. Anyone can join! Even losers like us? Chandler asks hopefully. Yes, even us!
Joey restates. Wasn t JFK awesome for deciding to get the first co op

Fictional Character In Ender s Game By Orson Scott Card
Ender Wiggin, a name that many know as the fictional character in the book, Ender s Game by
Orson Scott Card. If you ve read the book you know that Ender definitely has a very interesting
relationship, mainly because he is a third child which is not allowed in his society, with his older
brother and sister, Peter and Valentine: Well, Peter isn t all bad, you know. He was the best we
d seen in a long time. We asked your parents to choose a daughter next they would have anyway
hoping that Valentine would be Peter, but milder. She was too mild. And so we requisitioned you
(24). The siblings overall are very serious and certainly do not act like children, which could be
due to the fact that the siblings hardly had a childhood because of their focus on the bugger war
and battle school. Brooke Bolton, a name no one thinks anything of, if they... Show more content on

We know that Ender, as the third child, would not have even been born if the IF had not asked
for him to be. Which was because his siblings did not turn out perfect enough, they weren t
balanced enough, and we can see in the book that Ender, who s personality seems to be a mix of
both Peter and Valentine, serves as a constant reminder to Peter that he was not good enough,
that he didn t have his monitor in as long as Ender did: Like us? He keeps the little sucker till he
s six years old. When did you lose yours? You were three. I lost mine before I was five. He almost
made it, little bastard, little bugger (7). Peter, as an older brother, threatens, intimidates, and tries
to control Ender, instead of being a supportive friend, brother and role model that Ender needed
in his life. Ender craves Peter s love but knows he can t trust him. Ender also expresses many
times throughout the book that he never wants to be like Peter, which shows Peters failure to be a
good role model as an older sibling, although Ender convinces himself he is just like Peter a few

What Is Tooth Decay In The 50 s
By examining three of the commercials from the 1950s, we can conclude what the initial
perceived dental problem was in the era. In each of the commercials I analyzed, the issue of tooth
decay was mentioned repeatedly. I examined the 1956 Pepsodent commercial, the 1950s Colgate
Dental Cream commercial, and the 1956 Crest commercial. The competing companies all had a
similar substantive characteristic in that they used science and scientific terms to sway their
consumers. In the particular situation of tooth decay, all of the rhetors chose science and special
terminology that would cause a response in their audience. It is hard to argue against science after
all.
Beginning with the 1956 Pepsodent commercial we see that the scientific formula is used but not
explained. According to the cartoon images in the commercial, I.M.P. cleans the teeth and removes
the yellow stains, while Irium fights tooth decay. The science behind these products in the toothpaste
formula is not mentioned. However, the audience can see the cause and effect in relation to those
two ingredients. By using Pepsodent and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dentist repeatedly stated that Colgate Dental Cream proved with scientific evidence that it stops
tooth decay best. The dentist continues to say that no other toothpaste has proved so completely
with dental research that Colgate stops tooth decay and bad breath. Again, just like the Pepsodent
commercial, we see that scientific formula (though we have not been told how or with what)
Colgate leads to physical attraction and kissing. In this commercial, an explanation of anything is
not needed, because there is a supposed trusted professional telling the audience that the evidence
exists. Use the toothpaste that has backed scientific research and get the

The Importance Of An Organization Having A Pre Planned Budget
In this research paper I will be explaining the importance of an organization having a pre planned
budget. Without the proper budgeting systems most organizations probably would end up
spending more than their means which could ultimately cause a great amount of hardship. First
let me start off by defining what a budget is, a budget can be defined as the process of creating a
plan to spend an organization or individual s money. (Peavler, 2016) It s always best to create a
plan for a budget that is for six months to a year down the road. Spending plans are an entrepreneur
s arrangement of activity for the business firm. Without a financial plan, the entrepreneur is actually

Proprietors need to check whether arranged. According to the article The Advantages of a Flexible
Budget flexible budgeting unlike normal budgeting which uses predictions to make a forecasted
decision on how funds are to be budgeted in an organization. Flexible budgeting allows for an
organization get an idea of how the production or sale volumes are going and allows for changes to
be made. Fixed and Static on the other hand is a predetermined amount that is unable to be changed
if things do not go as plan that is what makes the flexible budget more advantageous. (Davoren,
2016) The business environment around you changes quickly; thusly, you should adjust to these
progressions to make your business an example of overcoming adversity. Utilizing an flexible
budgeting plan places you in a superior position to oblige these progressions, make convenient
operational alterations and take the best advantages from circumstances that exist in outside
situations. For instance, in the event that you run a transportation and dispatch administration, you
might see the expanding expense of gas and that travel costs are over spending plan. In the event
that you utilize an adaptable spending plan approach, you could name options and set them set up
to diminish the expense of these expansions. (Davoren, 2016) According to the source Strategic

angle that zoomed into his face highlights the dramatic moment. It was almost as if Antoine was

figured out that this scene was monumental for the movie, I could understand why. The moment

Airway Assesment Of The Difficult Airway Before Manipulation
CHAPTER III
AIRWAY ASSESMENT IN TRAUMA PATIENTS Identification of the difficult airway before
manipulation is the Holy Grail of clinical management. It is the first step in preparing for patient
care. Selection of airway devices, techniques, and procedures all pivot on airway evaluation (Carin,
2008). Preoperative examination of the airway is essential. Identification of patients with a
potentially difficult airway before anesthesia allows time to plan an appropriate anesthetic
technique. Previous anesthetic records should always be consulted. However, a past record of
normal tracheal intubation is no guarantee against difficulty on subsequent occasions as airway
anatomy can be altered as in trauma affecting the airway. The presence of stridor or hoarse voice is
warning sign for the anesthetist. As it is impossible to identify all patients with a difficult airway
during preoperative assessment, the anesthetist must be prepared to manage the unexpected
difficult laryngoscopy (Alan et al,. 2001).
пѓ Historical Indicators of Airway Difficulty: The intent of obtaining an airway history is to elicit
previously known factors indicating that airway management has been (and likely will be) difficult.
Any patient who is awake and capable of coherent conversation should be asked about prior
intubation and ventilation successes or failures. Some patients possess a Medic Alert bracelet
indicating a history of difficult intubation or ventilation and this can be useful in obtunded

Voter Registration Fraud Case Study
If accurate voter rolls aren t incentive, then maybe cost saving is. Since regulations very state to
state, it is hard to assess national cost. Considering money is a motivating factor to change, a case
study for registration cost was done using Oregon as the test subject. Pew considered every level of
registration. Beginning locally, it determined printing and postage, staff salaries, and facilities.
Additionally, the Secretary of State incurs expenses related to maintain the voter rolls, providing
and distributing registration forms, training and assisting agencies involved with voter registration,
and manning the toll free call center for public questions regarding registration. All totaled, Oregon
spent almost nine million dollars registering voters for the 2008 election, that s $4.11 per active
registered voter or $7.67 per registration transaction (Pew). Compare that cost to Canada, who
maintains their voter roll using automatic registration, with just 35 cents per active voter (Pew).
That is a significant cost savings.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arguably, any duplicitous activity surrounding our elections should be investigated and punished
accordingly. Indeed, most allegations of voter fraud turn out to be clerical errors, and individual
voter fraud is rare for two compelling reasons. First, individual fraud begets minimal votes, certainly
not enough to win an election. And second, it comes with a severe penalty (Brennan). Henceforth,
our country needs to find the balance between the possibility of fraudulent elections with the
probability of voter suppression and disenfranchisement. Automatic voter registration not only
mends the system, but also protects it by removing those that would most benefit from voter
registration fraud from the process ie. political parties and partisan third party

Group Observation Of Group Behaviors
Group Observation At the beginning of the group, the facilitator asked the clients to identify group
norms. The clients identified these group norms and wrote them on the white board; raise your
hand, no crosstalk or side conversations, stay awake, be respectful of peers/facilitator and property,
keep things discussed in group confidential and be willing to participate and offer support when
needed. The group facilitatorfollowed the Seeking Safety session format which is explained in the
Seeking Safety: A treatment manual for PTSD and Substance Abusewritten by Lisa M. Najavits.
The session format includes four steps; 1) check in, 2) quotation, 3) relate the topic to patients
lives and 4) check out (Najavits, n.d., p. 147 169).
The goal of the check in step is to find out how clients are doing and should not take more than
five minutes per participant. The check in consists of four questions that clients may answer if
they are willing to do so; how are you feeling, what good coping have you done, describe your
substance used and any other unsafe behavior, and did you complete your commitment? The
facilitator informed the clients that the check in process is optional and did not pressure clients to
participate. From the observer perspective, this seemed to empower the clients and give them
choice. All the clients present in the group were willing to participate in the check in process.
The next step in the session format is to read the quotation. Each topic in the

  • 2. Research Paper On Dodo Bird The Mysterious Dodo Picture yourself running through the woods as quickly as your legs can move you, with a heap of emotions running through your brain. You feel betrayed, offended, helpless, terrified. You had never been an aggressive animal. You were friendly, you didn t eat animals, and it s not like you had the abilities to overpower anything if you did eat them. This may aid your imagination of what the dodo bird went through while being hunted down by the Portuguese. The dodo bird may seem like a tedious animal; However, the bird, it s misconception, and how it became extinct are intriguing in a way that you may find odd. The dodo bird is not an extremely famous bird, like the beautiful parrot, or the perfectly pink flamingo. Many people aren t educated on what the bird was genuinely like, or even what the bird is. The dodo is a flightless bird from an island in the Indian Ocean called Mauritius. It is part of the Raphidae family(Dodo 1), which consists of pigeons and doves. The dodo clings to the forest in Mauritius and has been extinct since the 17th century(Extinct Bird 1), eating only nuts, fruits, or seeds it found on the ground(Viral Stats). The dodo bird has a comical appearance, that one could only imagine. It s unique visuals were small useless wings, thick yellow legs, and a tuft of feathers high on its rear end (Dodo 2). These odd characteristics made it easy for people to deride the dodo bird. In terms of size, the dodo was larger than a turkey, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My mother started teaching to keep my family out of poverty, and my sister became a live in governess which i dreaded by the way. When i was 14 i suffered a nervous breakdown and left school. From one doctor he diagnosed me with just a normal health problem, but another doctor thought i was plain crazy and said i was mental. In 1847 that s when i really began experimenting with writings such as verse forms as sonnets, hymns, and ballads. I mostly imitated my favorite poets which are my father, and Dante Alighieri. In my late teens i became engaged to a painter named James Collison. The engagement ended in 1850 when he reverted to Catholicism. I also became involved with a linguist but that ended for the same reasons but we remained friends. My career was going great until October 29 1893 i was diagnosed with breast cancer. Although the tumor was removed i suffered from a recurrence on September 14 1894. Finally i died in Bloomsbury, Torrington square at the age of 64. You re probably thanking me right now for skipping the small talk huh? • 5. Compare And Contrast Lincoln And The Civil War The American Civil War was undeniably one of the most influential events in the formation of the United States and what it is today. There were several prominent figures on both the side of the Union and the Confederacy. Two important individuals from this era were President Abraham Lincoln and General Nathan Bedford Forrest. These two men fought on opposite sides of the war, Lincoln supporting the Union and Forrest the Confederacy. They both found great success during the war, despite their drastically differing approaches and beliefs. Of the two, Lincoln had a more positive and lasting influence on the United Statesand the values held to this day. Forrest and Lincoln both had a strong effect on society and the American people at the time. Lincoln impacted the North heavily with his beliefs and values, whereas Forrest had a strong hold on those supporting the Confederacy. He primarily had an influence over the soldiers and troops under his command. While Forrest only directly held the attention of his troops, Lincoln being the President of the United States, had more of an impact on the citizens through public contact and delivering speeches. President Lincoln and General Forrest encouraged different qualities in their followers. Lincoln valued equality, empathy and freedom. Forrest was a general in the Confederate army and therefore focused much more on action and success on the battlefield to spread his cause. Lincoln, inversely, focused much more on gaining traction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Ghost of Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay The Ghost of Beloved One of the most engaging arguments about Toni Morrison s book Beloved is centered around the nature of the girl Beloved. The argument is whether Beloved is simply a young woman who herself had suffered the horrors of slavery, or the ghost of Sethe s crawling already? baby girl. The evidence shows that Morrison intended Beloved to be the ghost of the crawling already? girl. It has been said that there are basically two reasons why ghosts walk: they have either unfinished business to attend to of have died a very violent death. The crawling already? girl fits both of these profiles. She died without growing up, without knowing why she died. As a result, she has unfinished business with her mother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Beloved arrived, the scene was described with, Here Boy nowhere in sight. Here Boy could sense that Beloved was the ghost and didn t want to be hurt again. Also, at the end of the book when Beloved was already gone, Here Boy returned. One of Paul D s biggest questions about Beloved was her skin. Her skin was like new skin, lineless and smooth, including the knuckles of her hands . Most women in that time had lined, callused, scarred hands by the time they were nineteen the scarring from playing when they were children and lines and calluses from the housework. The crawling already? girl died when she was one with baby new skin. It didn t have the time to become spoiled by labor and play. Beloved also had trouble keeping her head up. She would, [rest] her head in the palm of her hand as though it were too heavy for her neck alone. When Sethe killed the baby girl, she held its head up because she had cut so deeply, it almost severed the girl s head. If the Beloved were the ghost, she would have great troubles holding her head up because her neck had been severed. When a person dies, certain things happen to their bodies. For instance, they become very cold because the heart is no longer pumping blood through the body. All the blood stops, and settles everything cools off. Also, bodies become very dehydrated because their is no more fluids being ingested. When Beloved arrives, she is very cold and drink a lot of water. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Diet Of A Man s Diet When a couple is trying to conceive, there are obvious things that the woman can do to improve their chances of conception and improve their chances of a healthy pregnancy. For example, women often change their diets or begin taking folic acid. Yet most people do not think about how important the potential dad s diet can be. A man s diet (the way that he eats and nutritional intake) can have a huge influence on his sex drive (necessary for obvious reasons if you want to make a baby together), sperm count, and sperm health. Although men do create sperm pretty much constantly, I was shocked when I found out what a long process it is. It takes sperm approximately twelve to fourteen weeks to mature! (1) That means that the health of a man is important for months before conception. Diet plays an important role in creating adequate numbers of healthy sperm. So what should dads to be be eating? The single most effective dietary way for a man to improve their fertility would probably be to eat more zinc. Zinc plays a crucial role in sperm production, and semen is extraordinarily high in zinc. (2) Sources of zinc include seafood especially oysters, red meat, pumpkin seeds, dairy products, and brown rice. (3) In order to improve your body s absorption of zinc, eat it in conjunction with Vitamins C and E. Most women take folic acidbefore conception (in planned pregnancies at any rate) and during pregnancy to reduce the risk of spinal bifida and other birth defects (4). ... • 8. A Gui Is The Revolution Way Of Using And Pointers,... A GUI is the revolution way of using and pointers, windows, menus, and icons interfaces incorporating into UI elements. These features allow users to interact with applications across innumerable platforms like PDAs, mobile devices, and laptops. Thus, let s take a moment to imagine this scenario: How would you feel if you entered a library in hopes of finding the ideal book for a research paper, only to find nothing but endless rows of unlabeled sections? Perhaps you could use the computer to access the section and a name, but the effort is pointless since they sections are unidentified. To add to your disarray not only are the sections not categorized, but books are scattered among sections having no designated area. Clearly, this layout classifies as mind boggling and nonsensical. Furthermore, for this purpose developers must heed the design phase by not only being creative but thinking like a user as well. Developers must concentrate on those factors that render an application user friendly. Clarity should be the first step towards ensuring an application functionality; the user should not feel confounded. On the contrary, they ought to perceive the application as informative, easy to use and deploy the application with confidence. Discuss whether or not the application behavior follows your definition of Good GUI Design principles (Include your Design principles in your assignment.). • 11. Annotation Of Sophocles Dover Beach Matthew Arnold begins Dover Beach with a beautiful and peaceful image of a sea at night, but by the end of the poem he strips away the beauty, and shows the reader the nightmare, and horror behind the calm ocean. The speaker describes a lovely scene with the water meeting the land, and the moon glimmering off of the water, which creates a captivating image for the reader. The speaker even makes the reader imagine the sounds of the beach Listen! you hear the grating roar (9). This puts the reader on the beach with him, creating a peaceful, and blissful escape from the world for a moment. The speaker creates an allusion to the an ancient playwright Sophocles, Heard it on the Aegean, and it brought (16). This stanzaforces the reader to go back in time, and realize the people that seem so far because of years walked the same beaches, and observed the same seas. Arnold... The speaker sees the night as an evil, that howls around humans, in our lonely and vulnerable world. The moon is also a key part of the night, bringing the light to the night, but the light does not seem completely good either. Where the sea meets the moon blanched land (9). The speaker seems to be hinting that even the moon has evil in it; blanched makes the moon seem unnaturally pale, and almost a little like death. The final two stanza shows the speaker s opinion of the world related to faith, and it appears that the speaker has lost his faith. And we here as on a darkling plain (35). • 12. Deception Of Women In Richard III A main aspect of Richard s, Duke of Gloucester, personality is his hatred of women, possibly due to most woman within Richard III holding more knowledge than the men, in regards to Richard s deceiving nature. The only woman who is outsmarted by Richard is Lady Anne. Deception, as well as their relationship, is crucial to the overall plot. The character of Lady Anne has crucial dramatic functions within the play because her character supports Richard s growing reputation of manipulating and morally wrong motives. When she is seduced by Richard, it shows his success at manipulation, which eventually does fail in the later acts of the play. After successfully slaying Lady Anne s husband, King Henry, Richard is still able to gain her hand in marriage using persuasive language. Through this act, Lady Anne becomes a blocking figure for Richard because he has to conquer her, but he also has a pre existing disadvantage regarding the situation: Lady Anne is aware that Richard just killed her husband. Whenever they interact with each other, the use of formal language is present. Due to this, it has the capability to thoroughly show the tension between them, as well as Lady Anne s attitude towards him. She tells him Thou mayst be damned for that wicked deed! The urge to expand the British Empire led the British to seek out and conquer India. They controlled India from around the 1750 s to 1947. Bartleby s existence as we were led to believe seemed like a death in life existence. Bartleby was a man incapable of experiencing emotions and isolated himself from his environment. A lofty brick wall, black by age and everlasting shade. A lot of Bartleby time was spent staring outside at the blank wall, which seemed to be a reflection of the isolation and loneliness in his own life. As time passed Bartleby verbally stated when asked to comply with his work responsibilities I prefer not to. His protest for the work was very direct and yet very passive. Bartleby seems to have a distinctive, dysfunctional personality. But he wrote on silently, palely, mechanically . This passage shows the debilitating effects of such a depressed life. I prefer not to seemed to be the only verbal communication he was capable of at the present time. Although he appeared to be referring to his work subconsciously his true feelings for death were stated, as I prefer not to. As the story continues it becomes obvious that Bartleby could not be saved from himself, nor did he want help from anyone else. Bartleby seemed to put up a brick wall between him and the world. He would not allow anyone into his self destructive deteriorating world. Strangely huddled at the base of the wall, his knees drawn up, and lying on his sides, his head touching the cold stone, I saw the wasted Bartleby. From this excerpt, we ... The problem which had arose this year, we had to get into groups and decide what project to undergo for this second year of the degree course. When groups were created we were sharing ideas of project we would do and if they were possible to make or not. We could not have a small project because we were in a group of 3 so we had to make sure the project was big enough to do for group of 3 members. The purpose of the project was to build an electrical and electronic based project which involved circuitry. To start with, we had to create a gantt chart and conduct a feasibility study to know if our project would be a success or not, and gantt chart to give a rough estimation of how long the project would take to build and test. We first started looking into what sensors we would use and how they would be connected up to give us readings, so we had researched microcontrollers to use because that is what all sensors would be connected upto. The most suitable firmware was the arduino in the end. We had researched weather monitoring systems and had also gone to have a look at a few; we looked at how everything would function and how the readings were given out. The circuitry carried out was a good experience seeing as we were electrical and electronic students. The Immigration And Customs Enforcement Essay ICE stands for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they deal with matters concerning border control, customs, trade and immigration to insure public safety and homeland security. Their priorities focus on preventing terrorism and the illegal movement of items, as well as people. Within ICE, there are three subgroups that fall into specialized tasks for the agency, such as Homeland security investigations (HSI) and the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Although being a fairly new agency there has been more than a few controversies on how ICE handles the illegal immigrants, however, since 9/11 the U.S has been trying to find the most effective ways to stop terrorism. So, that also means that not everyone would agree with the tactics that ICE used to solve the problem for those specific cases. The U.S has been known as the land of opportunities, so of course people from all over the world would try to leave their countries that weren t thriving economically after World War I, this lead to immigration into the US to rise significantly. Every year, the State Department issued a limited number of visas; only those immigrants who had obtained them and could present valid visas were permitted entry. The basic practice of the architectural space is to reform the object of architecture on the site. People have built a natural environment for themselves by starting the first shelter since they are in the world. The built environment that undergoes continually a transformation and change has evolved to be closely associated with people and the lives of people. At this point, the relationship between architectural and urban voids came into prominence. So, what is the void? How is it designed? And how can the void contact its inside and outside? or What is the potential of voids? Many theorists, architects, and philosophers have asked these questions for over two thousand year but answers are still uncertain. As a general thing, the void is about absence instead of existence, or about nothing instead of a thing. However, it may be said that void as emptiness is defined with a mutual understanding. Void as a conceptual topic could provide the inspiration for art and architecture. The existence of voids could reach to individuals and society thanks to art and architectural works. One theme that has come up in multiple readings this semester is the theme of symbols or myths as a representation for something that is not exactly true. Roland Barthes best describes what a myth is in his book, Mythologies. The use of such myths and representations that was the most educational and influential was Guy Debord s, The Society of the Spectacle where Debord describes how society is made up a false life that is deeply intertwined with the real world to an extant that you can not distinguish the two. In both of these cases, a common theme arrises from the analysis of representations. This mutual theme is that representations tend to hold dominion over people and lead to the idealization of appearances. This modern idea is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Debord believes it came about due to its monopolization over these representations. With its control over representations, a spectacle can essentially control its own image, causing a passive acceptance (theory 12) by the people due to its appearance as a good thing. However, the reason why Debord finds the spectacle s domination to be so dangerous and powerful is because of its tautological nature which means it s end goal is also the means of its existence. The spectacle aims only to further itself and increase its existence or prevalence. In doing so it creates a requirement for obedience. If people do not view representations as they are meant to be viewed, there is no possibility for argument, you simply become an outlier with no real chance of fighting the overwhelming majority. The spectacle does one crucial thing in order to ensure its longevity. It divides people. According to Debord, the spectacle even has a certain religious aspect to it in the way it creates a type of illusion where humans attribute their existence to something besides themselves. As Debord describes it, the spectacle is hence a technological version of the exiling of human powers in a world beyond and the perfection of separation within human beings (thesis 20). From the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, lynchings were thouroughly rooted in social measures; communities carried out most of the mob killings. Class, ethnicity, and culture all contributed to the inclination for lynching. The motivations behind lynchings are different in the ways in which they used violence to render the understandings of race, social class, sexuality and gender in crime and punishment. Most private mobs carried out lynchings to bring about division in the community view and leaned towards killing their victims that were detained in the custody of legal authorities. Small mobs utilized careful planning and leaned to delay their vigilantism for some time after the commission of the supposed crime they were punishing. Language Assessment Literacy Language assessment literacy refers to the familiarity of the stakeholders with measurement practices and the application of this knowledge to classroom practices and issues of assessing language (Inbar Lourie, 2008). Appropriate assessment provides teachers with important information about student performance and about the extent to which learning objectives have been achieved in the classroom. Despite the importance of student progress assessment (Taylor, 2009; Scarino, 2013), many teachers and test users have a limited understandВ¬ing of assessment essentials (Popham, 2009). Competencies that language teachers need to acquire in order to develop assessment literacy include the ability to understand proper testing practices, use various means of assessment, interpret assessment results, and use the results in their teaching (Boyles, 2005). Language teachers, who also fulfill the role of testers, want a practical text that includes relevant activities. In addition to textbooks, other approaches to develop assessment literacy are traditional as well as face to face workshops, online tutorials, reference frameworks, video projects, pre conference workshops, and series of narrative accounts. This study can be helpful for all stakeholders including language teachers who also are often testers; an online tutorial is much more beneficial than other ways of assessment literacy, due to its ease of access and no need for participation (Alderson Huhta, 2005). • 34. Theory of Montage in Pudovkin’s, Eisenstein’s and Vertov’s... Introduction In the presented essay I will compare the style of work of selected artists in the montage of the film. I will try to point out some general regularities and features of Soviet cinema. At the same time I will try to capture especially what is common in their systems and similar or conversely what differ. For my analysis, I will draw on the feature films of the Soviet avantgarde, namely these are the movies The Battleship Potemkin (S. Eisenstein, 1925), Mother (V. Pudovkin, 1926) and The Man with a movie camera (D. Vertov, 1929). Hundreds of child stars have grown up to be consumed with depression, eating disorders, drug and alcohol addiction, and severe self esteem issues. So why would children that perform in child and teen beauty pageants be any different? They are constantly being judged by their looks, their actions, their poise and posture, their attitude and behaviors, the list goes on and on. That could severely affect the way these children see themselves as they get older. When a child is constantly being watched and criticized in every aspect, they develop a complex and a need to be perfect, when in fact perfection does not exist. This is when their depression or drug addictions might seep in, when they realize they can never live up to the standards that others have set on them. This is a very dangerous place to be, and no child or teenager should have to suffer through such a time as this. Childhood should be full of playing outside with friends, going to the pool or amusement park, visiting the beach or the mountains with family. It shouldn t consist of maintaining perfection with all the fakeness day in and day out, or there could be some very real consequences that might follow. • 38. Role of the Witches in Macbeth Macbeth is a play about morals and how people can be easily influenced. The audience at the time when the play was written were more superstitious than we are. They believed in witches and thought that they were the devils disciples. They were believed to be able to control the weather, blamed many things, such as outbreaks of disease on them. The first people to meet the Witches are Banquo and Macbeth. They find the witches appearance is vile. We can see this as Banquo says that (they) look not like the inhabitants of the earth. This shows us that the witches are obviously strange, and probably misshapen in their appearance. When Macbeth becomes king, he sees this as a threat to his kingship and attempts to murder Banquo s son, Fleance. Although this fails, Banquo is killed. Macbeth is greatly influenced by the witches at their second meeting, and takes everything that they say literally. Their first warning to Macbeth is that he should be wary of Macduff beware Macduff. In response to this, Macbeth ruthlessly murders Macduff s family. The warning is the seed, but Macbeth thinks the rest for himself. The second warning tells Macbeth that he can be harmed by any man of woman born. Macbeth takes this literally and says before the battle What s the boy Malcolm? Was he not of woman born? However, we learn later a few scenes later that Macbeth has taken this too literally and that it means natural. We also learn that Macduff was not naturally born and so can harm Macbeth. So what really is the role of the witches in Macbeth? I think that their role is to give Macbeth a thought that they know he will try and expand on. The perfect example is foretelling his ascension to the throne. They tell him he will become king but they don t tell him how. He just assumes he has to murder Duncan to become ... • 51. Airway Assesment Of The Difficult Airway Before Manipulation CHAPTER III AIRWAY ASSESMENT IN TRAUMA PATIENTS Identification of the difficult airway before manipulation is the Holy Grail of clinical management. It is the first step in preparing for patient care. Selection of airway devices, techniques, and procedures all pivot on airway evaluation (Carin, 2008). Preoperative examination of the airway is essential. Identification of patients with a potentially difficult airway before anesthesia allows time to plan an appropriate anesthetic technique. Previous anesthetic records should always be consulted. However, a past record of normal tracheal intubation is no guarantee against difficulty on subsequent occasions as airway anatomy can be altered as in trauma affecting the airway. The presence of stridor or hoarse voice is warning sign for the anesthetist. As it is impossible to identify all patients with a difficult airway during preoperative assessment, the anesthetist must be prepared to manage the unexpected difficult laryngoscopy (Alan et al,. 2001). пѓ Historical Indicators of Airway Difficulty: The intent of obtaining an airway history is to elicit previously known factors indicating that airway management has been (and likely will be) difficult.
