Introduction
 Nieveen (1997) defined her model as “Computer Assisted Curriculum Analysis,
Design and Evaluation.”
 It is for curriculum development.
 It is a study on the potential of computer support in the domain of formative
curriculum evaluation.
 McKenney, Nieveen & Akker (2002) suggested that “CASCADE project aimed to
learn more about how electronic performance support systems EPSS could
contribute to curriculum development”(p. 27).
 Nieveen’s model was based on ADDIE model
Components of Nieveen’s Model
 Nieveen’s model consists of three main components (Nieveen, 1997):
1- analysis of the problem.
2- Building the product (analysis, design and formative evaluation).
3- Summative evaluation.
The second component is divided into four phases:
1- Design specifications.
2- Global materials.
3- Partially detailed materials.
4- Complete materials.
Advantages of Nieveen’s model
There are several disadvantages to this model (Nieveen, 1997):
 The constant support EPSSs provide to the employees during their work.
 The model leads to better task performance.
 The model take advantage of the tremendous progress that computer systems
have.
 The model promotes learning and working at the same time with using EPSS.
 Using EPSS for this model helped in the reduction of costs and time of training
employees get for professional development.
Disadvantages of Nieveen’s model
There are several disadvantages relatedthis model (Nieveen, 1997):
 People who lack computer experience may face problems using this model.
 Working with EPSS requires certain characteristics such as having a high degree of
control and the ability of evaluating the quality of information.

Nieveen’s model

  • 3. The Author Background  Experiences: - Senior Researcher at SLO– Netherlands Institute for Curriculum Development. 2007-Now - Assistant Professor at University of Twente. 1997-2007 - Educational Consultant at Kessels & Smit, the learning company. 1997-2000
  • 4. The Author Background  Publications: - Schools as curriculum agencies: Asian and European perspectives on school-based curriculum development (2010). - Introduction to educational design research (2009). - Educational design research (2006). - Design approaches and tools in education and training (1999).
  • 5. Introduction  Nieveen (1997) defined her model as “Computer Assisted Curriculum Analysis, Design and Evaluation.”  It is for curriculum development.  It is a study on the potential of computer support in the domain of formative curriculum evaluation.  McKenney, Nieveen & Akker (2002) suggested that “CASCADE project aimed to learn more about how electronic performance support systems EPSS could contribute to curriculum development”(p. 27).  Nieveen’s model was based on ADDIE model

Components of Nieveen’s Model  Nieveen’s model consists of three main components (Nieveen, 1997): 1- analysis of the problem. 2- Building the product (analysis, design and formative evaluation). 3- Summative evaluation. The second component is divided into four phases: 1- Design specifications. 2- Global materials. 3- Partially detailed materials. 4- Complete materials.
  • 7. Advantages of Nieveen’s model There are several disadvantages to this model (Nieveen, 1997):  The constant support EPSSs provide to the employees during their work.  The model leads to better task performance.  The model take advantage of the tremendous progress that computer systems have.  The model promotes learning and working at the same time with using EPSS.  Using EPSS for this model helped in the reduction of costs and time of training employees get for professional development.
  • 8. Disadvantages of Nieveen’s model There are several disadvantages relatedthis model (Nieveen, 1997):  People who lack computer experience may face problems using this model.  Working with EPSS requires certain characteristics such as having a high degree of control and the ability of evaluating the quality of information.
