The document proposes a local newspaper aimed at youth ages 10-18 in Brent. It will be free to provide information to the community. In contrast to other newspapers, it will focus on publishing positive "good news" stories about the local youth and facilities. The newspaper will be published weekly to engage youth. It will use an approach of educating, informing, and entertaining readers. The lead story will be about a teenager who turned his life around after being on the streets, told from his perspective. The language will be formal but include some slang to relate to readers. Images will represent youth in a positive light and contrasting colors will be used. 2. Local newspaper for Brent My newspaper will be aimed at the young community of Brent ages 10-18. Local newspapers are usually free therefore there will be no charge for the newspaper in order for the community to get hold of one and be updated. The newspaper will be published weekly so that the young people can get involved in the new facilities and courses that are run in the local. My unique selling point that will be different from someone else is that all newspaper publish bad news therefore instead of bad news I will publish good news brighten Brent as a community. Also young people are not mentioned a lot in newspapers therefore my newspaper will focus on this. In order to make my newspaper a successful product I would use Blumer and Katz uses and gratifications which is to Educate and Inform, Entertain, Social Interaction, Escape and Identification. I aim to make the text engage an audience from a far, so when they see it on the self they would go out of their way and pick one up. From my research on local newspaper they fail to update the community on facilities like social clubs so that young people are not on the streets which would reduce anti-social behaviour.

3. When producing my newspaper I will address it directly to the audience, as though they are being directly spoken to. The use of copy? Slogans and Mastheads will still be the same although the target audience will be the young people ages 10-18 I will not be using slang but formal English to set a good example. I will not be using more than 5 colours for my newspaper as it will look tatty and unprofessional. My lead story will be a young teenager who has turned his life around after being on the streets and for the accompanying photograph I will have a photograph of a before and after. The photograph will be a positive representation of young people which challenges the idea that youth can turn there life around if they were motivated and determined by people around them. The angle of the story will be represented from the point of view of a young youth telling this experience of his rough childhood on the streets.

4. Language The language in my newspaper will be formal English however may contain bits of slang in order for young people to relate to it. For my newspaper I will taking a medium shot of the youth just like the example I have taken from the Islington Gazette. The student stands out from the people behind her as the camera is set to focus on her. I will contrast the colours in the image with the colours of the font. In order to do this I will need to think about the clothing and background of the image to choose the appropriate colours.

5. Representation In my product a young teenager will be represented as someone who has just come out the life living in the hood. The story is told from his point of view which could help others relate to his story and be inspired to follow his foot steps. This is an example I took from the Islington Gazette. It is an article told from the writers point of view. The phase ‘Blooming’ is slang which is used to interact with the readers as the local may use this phase. In my production the boy would tell the story from his point of view with some slang.

6. Institutions From research most newspapers don’t seem to publish good stories its mostly the bad things that happens within the community. However I have decided to invent my own which could inspire teenagers. My newspaper will be consumed to the local area which has a high rate of youth crime, hopefully my article will have an impact on teenagers guiding them the right way to life. Within the local area there are no regulations which means there are no rules to follow.

7. Audience The primary audience are the youths of the community. After reading the article about someone who had also been the same position they could feel like there is a way out of the street life. The secondary audience for my newspaper is the parents of the teenagers, they are the people that can help the youth therefore after reading the article it could motivate them that there is a way. The mode of address will reflect the target audience as I aim to make the article be an inspiration, engaging the audience and feeling synthetic towards it. The audience will first need to get hold of the newspaper therefore I will also add other stories which will attract the youth to the newspaper and then will come across to the article.
