Making Assumptions…..

•   Tool has emerged from recent LSIS RDF 2012 research
•   Research explored the concepts and ability of whether a learner is a
    dependent or independent learner in ICT
•   The project also reviewed how can this be assessed.
•   ICT is a changing environment
•   Increasingly, learners are assumed to be ICT literate.
•   Evidence suggests learners differ in their ICT abilities.
•   If not initially assessed for their ICT ability learners are likely to
    experience learning barriers.

Education Net Supported by JISC Advance Funding • Offer free, e-resources to learners, educators and employers • Activities, videos and articles which are curriculum based • Safeguarded and checked whilst the learner stays on the site • Ideal for apprentices and work-based learners • Easy access • Accessibility issues: currently using vozme, open to other web- friendly suggestions, options for screen colour and font size, meeting learning styles • Assumes user is IT competent at least a basic level • Collaboration with JISC Advance and Charwood Training
  • 6. Assessing dependent or independent ICT ability in Work Based Learning How ICT Literate are: •You? •Your staff? •Your learners?
  • 7. Making Assumptions….. • Tool has emerged from recent LSIS RDF 2012 research • Research explored the concepts and ability of whether a learner is a dependent or independent learner in ICT • The project also reviewed how can this be assessed. • ICT is a changing environment • Increasingly, learners are assumed to be ICT literate. • Evidence suggests learners differ in their ICT abilities. • If not initially assessed for their ICT ability learners are likely to experience learning barriers.

Interventions • Check there are no learning difficulties such as dyslexia or Irlen’s syndrome • Review the levels of e- learning the course contains. • Spikey Profiles lead to ICT skills gaps- Providers can include activities in ILP Reviews to increase use and therefore confidence incrementally • Re-test to show improvement
