Negotiation Case
 Two neighbors lived in a house, above and below each other.
Because of the way the building was designed. Noise was a
problem.
 Mr. Sharif had a young daughter who was regularly woken up by
music and other sounds coming from his neighbor, Mr. Rabiul's,
upstairs flat. For a year, he often complained to Mr. Rabiul, who said
that he tried not to make too much noise. He also said that she heard
endless Wiggles videos and his daughter screaming, but tolerated it.
 One night, during dinner with friends, Mr. Rabiul heard a loud
banging on his door and opened it to find Mr. Sharif angry and
abusive about the noise.
 Mr. Rabiul found his neighbor’s behavior intimidating.
 So he went to police station to file a complain to stop Mr. Sharif
from further any negative action.
 Mr. Sharif was shocked to find that Amanda had applied for an
intervention order against him.
 So Mr. Sharif wanted to come in a negotiation with Mr. Rabiul to
get free from this situation.
Negotiation Initialization
 The purpose of the analysis is to help parties make informed
decisions about possible options for resolution of the conflict.
 It is almost always helpful to compare possible outcomes along
alternative paths to actual proposals on the table in a negotiation
before making a decision within the negotiation.
Approaches to Negotiation
 Distributive Basics : Distributive negotiation is appropriate in
"divide the pie" situations, when there is a fixed amount of resources
and whatever one party gains, the other party loses.
 Integrative Basics: An integrative bargaining situation occurs when
it's possible to produce a greater outcome together than either could
reach on his own.
 So Mr. Sharif pursued an integrative tactic. He went to a mediator, That
cooperation between themselves will benefit both of them.
 During mediation they were able to put forward their points of view, with
the mediator guiding the process.
 Mr. Sharif wasn't aware that Mr. Rabiul also heard a lot of noise from his
apartment, or that he often tried to keep the noise down.
 But, Mr. Rabiul said he would minimize noisy activity around Mr. Sharif s
daughter's nap time.
 So they both come into decision that Mr. Rabiul withdraw the complain and
Mr. Sharif will show more patience toward his neighbor.
