This document discusses negotiation with learners in education. It defines negotiation as an agreement and compromise towards an outcome. Negotiation with learners involves allowing them input into the learning journey rather than just the destination. While behaviorism focused on passive learning, cognitivism and humanistic approaches began incorporating learner needs and experiences. Andragogy is the most negotiation-driven as it assumes adults want autonomy and relevance in their learning. Teachers can negotiate learning contracts, goals, and plans with individuals or groups. Easier negotiation involves setting ground rules together and using discussion, questions, or writing.
