PROSPECTIVE TEACHER
V.O.C.COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
THOOTHUKUDI.
INTRODUCTION
 The main purpose of teaching physical
science in secondary school is to enable
students to grasp systematically the basic
knowledge of physical science needed for
the further study of modern science and
technology.
The study of physical
science helps
 Acquire Experimental skills.
 Develop ability to think.
 Use mathematics to solve the problem.
 In the field of industry, defence and
agriculture.
AIMS OF TEACHING
PHYSICAL SCIENCE
 Physical science can claim an honorable place
in school curriculum. So the aims and
objectives of teaching physics must be based
on some criterion.
 Thurber and collette have proposed the
following criteria for selection of aims.
 Timeliness
 Usefulness
 Finess
 Appropriateness
 practicability
AIMS OF PHYSICAL
SCIENCE
 To make the students intrested I physics and
chemistry.
 To familiarizes the students with the important
role played in physics in their life.
 To develop in students a scientific culture.
 To provide a training to students in methods
of science.
 To emphasize upon students the role of
physics on social behavior.
 To prepare of those vacations which
require a sound knowledge of physics.
 To increase a understanding to such a
level that he can understand various
concept and theories.
Objectives
 Objectives are the specific and precise
behavioral outcomes of teaching a particular
topic or lesson of physical science.
The common education objective are
 1.Aquisition of knowledge.
 2.Intellectual abilities.
skill + knowledge = ability
Intellectual ability refer to the situations in
which the indivitual is expected to bring
specific technical information to bear on a new
problem.
Objectives actually control other
factors of physics teaching to great extend
therefore more emphasis be laid on writing
the objectives in the behavioral terms for each
unit of class room instructions in physics and
chemistry.
