Naval Beach Group
Creating a Purpose Statement for Cloud Technology The purpose of this paper is to outline an
information management problem affecting Naval Beach Group and its supporting elements. The
current system is not effective due to inefficiency and the distribution of outdated information.
Current Problem The current system incorporates the storage of large amounts of information on
localized share drives and then the information is sent over email to individuals requesting it. This
process is slow and allows for multiple, sometimes outdated, copies of manuals and procedural
documents to be used by training and operational units. This is a cumbersome process, which can be
streamlined by having a cloud technology. The current system in place is cumbersome, allows for
misinformation to be shared, is time intensive, and is not efficient. Naval Beach Group and its
supporting elements, need to shift information to the cloud so that all personnel can have access to
needed information, which is up to date and can be obtained in a timely manner. This will allow
each unit to properly train their personnel and meet operational requirements. Population and
Location This issue affects the Naval Beach Group Headquarters Command, along with 8
subordinate commands, which encompasses approximately 3000 service members and 70 ... Show

The units are stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Coronado, California, Camp Pendleton,
California, Panama City, Florida, and Sasebo, Japan. The unit stationed in Panama City is the test
and evaluation unit and provides technical knowledge to the other operational units. At any one time
there are roughly 300 service members deployed, from the units based in the continental United
States, so this does not include the units stationed in Sasebo, Japan because they are forward
deployed and their operational deployment requirements

Naval Training Center
NTC: Helping Shape "America's Finest City" San Diego has been home to a multitude of
stupendous sites over the decades: Seaworld, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Safari Park, and Balboa
Park. However, there is a place that has immense amounts of history and culture in our own
backyard. It is a place formerly known as the Naval Training center (NTC); it is now known as
Liberty Station. It is a beautiful sight, and wealth of knowledge and history, that seeks to actively
engage the community in teaching about the past, and learning about the future. The Naval Training
Center was such an important site in the building of San Diego's rich heritage and diversity. The
Naval Training Center influenced the history of San Diego by not only bringing in money, people,
and importance into it, but also using San Diego's heritage, and building upon it. The desire that San
Diego had for a naval base came from as far back as 1893, as stated by journalist, Justin Ruhge. This
gave San Diego a deep longing for a base here, especially after San Francisco received a station.
However, they were not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the 1994 Navy proposed budget, the "NTC contributed almost $80 million to the San
Diego economy" (globalsecurity.org). Furthermore, the station brought in 28,000 visitors a year for
graduations with 80 percent coming from out of town. These out of town visitors contributed nearly
$7 million to the local economy annually. Moreover, the "Navy spent an additional $10 million for
base operation support contracts" (Overview | History of the Naval Training Center). This means on
top of all the visitors coming in, and experiencing our San Diego culture, work was brought in to
bolster the civilians that lived here, and the local economy. Moreover, this meant that the city could
better handle a financial crisis that would plague the

United States Naval Academy
(USNA)
The United states naval academy is a school in Annapolis, Maryland at Fort Severn. It is not only
built on top of Fort Severn but also built on the base blocks of advancement and resilience to
achieve higher goals. USNA has one of the greatest histories of any colleges. Starting in 1845, the
institution was only a miniscule 10 acres to its now 338. As well as they had important dates to
progress academically and including women into midshipmen.
USNA's Three Elements for the Curriculum
You must have goals to be resilient and successful. The Naval Academy has three basic goals for
their students:

The institution first started as just a Naval School on 10 acres in Annapolis, Maryland. The location
of the school was originally intended to keep the students excluded from the temptations and
distractions that necessarily connect with a large and populous city environment. In 1850 the Naval
School became the United States Naval Academy. A new curriculum went into effect requiring
midshipmen to study at the Academy for four years and to train aboard ships each summer. The U.S.
Navy grew over the years and with that, the Academy expanded with it. The campus of 10 acres
increased to 338. The original student body of 50 midshipmen grew to a brigade size of 4,000.
Modern granite buildings replaced the old wooden structures of Fort Severn. In 1933, the naval
academy started to award bachelor degrees in sciences. The Academy later replaced a fixed
curriculum taken by all midshipmen with the present core curriculum plus 18 major fields of study.
In 1976, they took a large step and started to accept women into the midshipmen program. Even
though there were a larger number of men participating in the program, They pursue the same
academic and professional training as do their male

Japanese Naval Colossal
Have you ever thought about the reason for the defeat of the Imperialistic Japanese Naval Colossal?
The Japanese lost many aircraft carriers, military personnel, and aircraft turning the tide in the
Pacific Theater. "From December, 1941, until the spring of 1942, Japanese forces conquered British,
Dutch, and U.S. possessions in East Asia and the Pacific Ocean"(Watson). The Japanese fast and
powerful ships helped them extend their dominance. United States steps in when the Japanese
invaded French–Indochina, present Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and issued an oil embargo on the
Japanese. This angered the Japanese, So they planned to take over the oil wells in United States.
They did this by a surprise attack over the Hawaiian naval base of Pearl Harbor because 60% of the
US navy fleet was stationed there. The United States declared war over Japan. Few days later ...

It crushed the naval dominance of the Japanese Navy. The United States Navy was now able to
produce more ships and aircrafts. "The Japanese lost their four largest aircraft carriers,as well as 275
planes and about 3,000 military personnel"(Watson). "The United States, by contrast, lost only one
carrier (the Yorktown), one destroyer, 150 planes, and 307 personnel"(Watson). Japanese morale and
their dominance was crushed by this battle.
There were many heroes fought in this battle. Chester W Nimitz was the commander of the United
States fleet. Japanese Pacific fleet commander of the battle was Chuichi Nagumo. Isoroku
Yamamoto planned and assembled the attack and also was the commander of the Imperial Japanese
Navy.
Battle of Midway was the turning point in the war. This destroyed most of the aircraft carriers and
many of their ships. This battle keeps them on the run. If Battle of Midway was a victory for the
Japanese, then the allies would lose the war and we would be under the control of Fascist dictators
and lose many of our birth

Having a strong navy will increase Russia's might to enforce it will globally. While Putin is
establishing a naval port in Tartus he is also growing the Russian foot print near Latakia, "which has
been pivotal in Russia's ability to deploy forces in Syria for the next half–century and perhaps"
(Nordland 2017). This year Russia has added a second runway to expand it's ability to add more
warplanes and bring weapons, ammunition, devices and materials and personnel to respond. The
United States has a similar base in Turkey called Incirlik, which has been used for the invasion into
Iraq and Afghanistan. If Russia is able to build up Latakia airbase they will have the same ability to
react to conflicts and expand its military power in the Middle East to protect the oil and gas assets
that Russia owns. When the Soviet Union collapsed, they lost the strength of the military. Over the
years The United States and NATO have been the leaders in foreign affairs, which has decreased
Russia's economy. Now with Putin in charge, Russia has drastically altered its foreign policies to
bring back Russia former glory. If Russia can get back on par with the United States, the act of
sanctions and being told what laws they must follow will be nonexistent providing a larger
economic base, which will allow for greater global power. With This power Russia will be able to
establish stronger allies that will counter NATO agendas and be able to regulate global commerce

Naval Officer Accomplishments
From a young age I have always been in control of my life. Through trials and tribulations I have
learned that life does not always go as I planned. I had a goal to attend the United States Naval
Academy to pursue a career as a Naval officer. Instead, I received an appointment to the Naval
Academy Preparatory School (NAPS), which would delay my entry into the Naval Academy by one
year, if I graduated NAPS.The Navy prides itself on its high physical standards, except I did not
meet those physical standards and was considered overweight. During my year at NAPS, I
continually struggled with my weight. While I was able to pass the physical fitness test, I was not
within the weight limit and would fail every time. I told myself that if I just try harder, that I will
eventually make the weight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nonetheless, I did not let the setback stop me and I continued to work on losing the weight I needed
in order to make it to the USNA. The Navy sent me to a nutritionist; participate in weekly weigh–
ins; see a personal trainer; monitored my food intake and sent me to a psychiatrist. I did what I was
told, but still my weight did not change. Despite my inability to make the weight required, I was
chosen to be the Executive Officer of my Battalion. Nevertheless, I would be released from the
NAPS a week prior to graduation. Ending my chance to attend the USNA. My life was turned
upside down because I had never pictured a life without the USNA. I returned home and pursued
college, because I knew that I could not give up on an education, even if it would not be at the
USNA. I got a job, and focused on my grades so that I could retain my scholarship. Without the
scholarship, I knew that I had no other way to pay for higher education. My job helped to
supplement my family's income, because I knew that moving back in with my parents added to their

Naval Service Research Paper
Life changing experiences through extracurricular activities have given me the opportunity to
discover my passion for leadership and service. Prominently my initial experiences while
volunteering for Civil Air Patrol have shown me a life dedicated to service is unmeasurably
rewarding especially when given the opportunity to lead your peers. Mentoring my followers and
learning from their experiences have been so remarkable and rewarding. Deciding to pursue
opportunities to lead and serve, the possibility of serving the United States of America as a
commissioned officer was perfect. The idea of becoming a professional leader and warrior
defending the nation and the ideals behind it would be a dream come true. Seeing the path of an
officer fit my goals flawlessly, an education provided by service academy was severely ... Show

Attending outreach programs locally and then traveling to the Naval Academy to attend NASS, not
only showed me how naval service will fulfill my passions but also how the Naval Academy will
prepare me for a future full of opportunity to lead and serve. Nearly every midshipmen and a naval
officer I met impressed me with their leadership qualities and dedication to service. These men and
women showed to me how the Naval Academy can give me the opportunity to grow into the best
leader – my biggest goal – in the world's greatest Navy. I understand admittance to the Naval
Academy is accepting that dedication to a lifetime of service in and out of the Navy. And that's
exactly what I want to dedicate my life too. Additionally, coming from a single–parent household
living off of public assistance I've learned to value the opportunity our nation provides for its
citizens. I know I can make meaningful contributions as a commissioned officer and I want to take
advantage of every opportunity to not only improve myself but also defend my nation and the

Naval Career Progression
During my high school career, and continuing into my naval career, I have always had a desire to
succeed. In high school, I applied myself to become valedictorian, and in the Navy, I have worked
hard to become my A–school honorman. This desire to succeed is what initially attracted me to the
Naval Academy. Those who enter are regarded as the Navy's finest, and because of the high
standards that such a training demands, I hope to be shaped into a sailor that will bring pride to his
branch and his country. These same high standards will additionally enable me to reach my long
term goals. The first American that reached space, Alan Shepard, was a graduate from the Naval
Academy, and I plan to follow in his footsteps just as countless other graduates have done. The
number of Academy graduates that have become astronauts is clearly due to the rigorous training,
and this training is what I will use to carry me to space. After my career of naval service, I plan to
enter the field of engineering, where I will work on the technologies that will propel the ... Show

Alfred Thayer Mahan The Influence Of Sea Power Upon History
Alfred Thayer Mahan's seminal work, The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660–1783,
published in 1891, is an influential work of military theory. Although he is a revered military
theorist, Mahan was criticized for "not being a systematic." For example, he failed to consider social
and cultural conditions in the rise of sea power; the rise of the English middle class, American
agrarian discontent, and the rise of Russia. He also neglected to properly define the term "sea
power," of which he claimed to have invented. Even so, two main interpretations of sea power do
start to emerge. Firstly, the command of the sea through naval superiority and second, that
combination of maritime commerce, overseas possessions, and privileged access to foreign markets
that produces national wealth and greatness. Mahan also theorized that a naval fleet should never be
divided and that victory at sea is only possible by fleet concentration, his most important principle in
naval warfare.
During the time of Mahan's publishing, the United States was beginning to change its views on
warfare. After the Civil War, US military leaders had more time to devote to studying ... Show more

to be attained by a fleet only, Military, where the immediate object is to be attained by an army only,
Combined, where the immediate object is to be attained by army and navy together." He also
insisted that the object of naval warfare must always be to secure the command of the sea or to
prevent the enemy from securing it, either directly or indirectly. 35 In his view, command of the sea
means ―nothing but the control of maritime communications, whether for commercial or military
purposes Corbett believed that in a war between the two strong opponents, command of the sea will

Summary: The Influence Of Naval Power
From 1660 to 1783 Britain's Royal Navy was the superpower of the sea, allowing Britain to
establish itself as a world power. Alfred Thayer Mahan realized this link between imperial success
and naval superiority. In response Mahan wrote the book The Influence of Sea Power Upon History
1660–1783 exposing the necessity of a strong navy. The United States was at first hesitant to
establish a "Mahanian" Navy composed of large battle ships, cruisers, and destroyers (HistoryNet).
However, after the Naval victories of the Spanish American war, and after acquiring territories of
Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines the United States adopted Mahan's ideology in order to
stabilize trade and promote safe commerce. Even in today's American Navy, Mahan's concept of
Naval superiority to establish freedom of the seas, and to protect America's foreign territories
abroad, are still relevant in the modern era. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
World War Two marked the transition from a Mahanian battleship dominated Navy to a modern air
craft carrier dominated Navy (). Even though Mahan didn't predict that battleships would be the
dominating naval power, the concept of a powerful Navy still exits. To put it into perspective, today,
the United States Navy has a total of 19 air craft carries compared to the rest of the world's twelve
aircraft carriers (Jones, Brian). Italy, Spain, and the UK are the only other countries that have more
than one aircraft carrier, and they only posses two (Jones, Brian). Even the current Chief of Naval
Operations Admiral John Richardson, invokes Mahan in his "Design for Maintaining Maritime
Superiority"(Holmes, James). The magnitude of the U.S Navy's air craft armada and the influence
from the Chief of Naval Operations solidifies that Mahan's theory of Naval Superiority still exits in
today's

The Concept Of A Naval Battle
The concept of a naval battle has been around since approximately 1210 B.C.E. However, it would
be several thousands of years before its most important and revolutionary changes would be brought
about. The idea of a submersible ship has been around since the Revolution, although its success
was minimal at best. The first modern submarine would be developed in the late 19th century and
would be first used successfully in warfare by the Germans in World War 1. It arguably led to the
American's victory over Japan in World War II. Since their development submarines have paved the
way for the evolution of strategy, revolutionary new tactics, as well as playing a vital role in the
nuclear triad, redefining war.
No longer would the Mahanian strategy of a decisive battle be the norm, nor considered the best
way to fight naval battles. With the advent of the submarine, navies could now look into denying
their enemies the sea rather than struggling to control it (Hughes, n.d.). A contributing aspect of this
sea denial is the ability to greatly extend coastal defense. Coastal defense can not be looked at in a
traditional sense. These ships are not looking to simply defend the coast, but rather are cruising
thousands of miles of shore to sink as much of the enemy fleet as possible, thereby crippling their
ability to attack (Lautenschlager, 1987). Submarines also introduce a new element to psychological
warfare. As stated in Karl Lautenschlager's publication for International Security,

those ever so important Naval Academy rituals, demonstrating the unique training program of our

In actuality, the rote memorization is to help prepare a midshipman for the mayhem which ensues in
any naval battle. Combat or even daily operations aboard a US Navy vessel is one of the busiest
places on earth. Often, there is no time to analyze the situation and react accordingly, only to
respond. The winners in a naval battle are the most prepared, the ones whose officers and crew react
instinctively, drawing on their training to meet virtually any combat circumstance. When one is in a
combat situation, one will have to remember without thinking of the immediate action required to
prevail. Also, by being under constant fear of both unintentionally breaking the rules and the
upperclass's reaction, the plebes are being educated to perform well under stress that few civilians
can understand. Learning to quickly and perfectly memorize endless lists – be it either lunch menus

The Naval Academy : Training Officer Tour

Officer. In this position, I oversaw the training sergeants as they worked with the plebes, and acted

rest of the Company for training matters. I thoroughly enjoyed my semester as training officer. The
majority of my work centered on the training of the plebe class.
Having forty individuals under my "command", I was able to experiment with the superior–
subordinate relationship, similar to the role of a Division Officer in the Fleet. Given a general
mission to train the Plebe class to be ready for Youngster Year at the Naval Academy by the
Company Officer, I was given flexibility in doing whatever I saw fit to meet those ends. In my role,
I would frequently issue orders (through the training sergeants). Sometimes, things went according
to plans. Sometimes, they did not. It became very important, when issuing new orders for the Plebe
class, that I had a specific purpose and intent. Analyzing both my reasoning, the means in which the
command was implemented, and the reaction from its implementation, were important facets of
reflection. When issues arose, it was my responsibility to accept failure, resolve a quick and sound
solution, and implement it effectively to prevent or further issues. In approaching the best way to

Also when eating at King Hall, they must not speak unless addressed by an upperclassman. If a
plebe needs to speak, he must first extend a fist (known as "putting out the paw") for permission to

other rules they struggle with on the entire academy. Directly before a formal meal, during their

NSWC PCD mission priorities are; timely innovative products and services across the life cycle,
competent world class workforce ready to meet the stakeholder requirements, and forward thinking
leadership in all mission areas (Overview, 2013).
Cyber Space Oversight Process
There are two directions for information and directives to drive strategic cyberspace decisions at
NSWC PCD. The first is always direction sent through the Navy command chain by either direction
from an Admiral and policy changes or through directives from N2/N6 at NAVNETWARCOM
through the CIO/IA command chain. Either path often leaves little room for choosing an
interpretation locally. However, either the upper management, Commanding Officer, Technical
Director, and technical department heads will meet and issue a local direction or in some cases
directives flow from N2/N6 to NAVSEA to The Warfare Center Headquarters to the Warfare Center
CIO and/or IAM. In the case of the latter path, more input, discussion, and interpretation is available
at the local level. In those cases the CIO will call a meeting of the IAM, IT Manager, IT Operations
Manager, and other key advisors to discuss the requirements and provide options on the how to meet
those goals within the strategic operation plan of the command. The CIO will then draft a local
recommendation to be presented at the CO/TD forum for upper

The Differences Of Naval Architecture Vs. Marine Engineering
Naval Architecture vs. Marine Engineering Throughout the years we have had an advance in the
technology of boats and other marine structures. There are different fields that you can go into if you
wish to help with this advancement. Two of the different fields are Naval Architecture and Marine
Engineering. The main differences and similarities between Naval Architecture and Marine
Engineering are what they design, who they communicate with during the building process, and the
type of tests that they conduct. Naval Architecture is where the ship building process begins. These
architects are responsible for research and development, designing, building and repairing different
types of marine vessels. These vessels can include, but are not limited to, ferries, high–speed boats,
tankers, cargo ships, passenger liners, yachts, power boats, warships, fishing boats, rescue boats,
barges, submarine, offshore structures, and aircraft meant to land on water. They are responsible for
studying design proposals and specifications for all the vessels. These architects are also responsible
for designing the ship's hull, waterline curves, and all other structures of the boat. When building
they have to take in account the economic feasibility, as well as making sure they are within all
national and international safety and regulatory standards. Furthermore, communication is always
key to any project. During the ship building process, the architects are constantly communicating
with Marine Engineers. They discuss the layout of all the important internal systems of the boat.
Some of these systems are the boiler room equipment, heating and ventilation, refrigeration
equipment, electrical distribution, safety systems, steering, and propulsion machinery. They also
communicate with each other. Since they are part of a team they have to communicate with each
other to ensure everyone is doing their part and all the work is being done properly. Also, if you are
a naval architect and have experience traveling on the water, you could have the opportunity to
provide onboard safety training to other crews.
In addition, it is always important to conduct tests to be sure that everything is working the way it
should during and after

Naval Special Warfare Teamwork
Introduction
Optimal operating organizations are those who embrace teamwork to accomplish shared goals.
Although some organizations are effective, there is always room to improve their efficiency. One
main adaptive challenge is to change the cultural relationship between Navy Sea Air and Land
Operators (SEALs) and the support staff that work within the Naval Special Warfare organization.
The personal beliefs and attitudes of individuals within the community are that the SEALs are held
to a separate standard and get special treatment when it comes to deviating from those standards.
There are some adaptive changes that can be implemented to enhance the overall culture, especially
the teamwork within the Naval Special Warfare organization. ... Show more content on

Failure to change the current issues will result in keeping the "elephants in the room" and continued
friction by not "sharing responsibility for the organization," which directly contribute to the two
identified adaptive challenges. Heifetz et al. (2009) suggest that every immediate encountered
problem is an opportunity to not only fix them, but to institutionalize new norms. Therefore the top
leadership needs to acknowledge the challenges and take action by creating urgency. Kotter and
Cohen (2002) states that "without enough urgency, large–scale change can become an exercise in
pushing a gigantic boulder up a very tall mountain" (p. 15). Indeed, change cannot happen without
identifying the issues or creating

Naval Aviation Is It 's Dangerous, Unpredictable,...
Sadly, there are a few downsides to naval aviation. The career takes a longer time to train than most
other jobs, due to the high responsibilities that a naval aviator has to take. In order to be successful
and enjoy the job, a naval aviator must have charismatic and ideal qualities to endure the hardships.
One of the disadvantages to naval aviation is that it's dangerous, unpredictable, and requires a lot of
time commitment. Naval pilots have unstable futures – they can be deployed to war anytime
anywhere, leave their family, or even die in battle. Thus, these unpredictable paths cause naval
aviators to make a lot of sacrifices, whether it be moving a lot, working strange and irregular hours,
being oversea for lengthy durations of time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many personal qualities and talents that can help the young and aspired naval aviators.
According to Careers in Focus: Government, personality traits include being athletic, conventional,
and organized (Ferguson). One of the most important characteristics is being motivated, inspired,
and determined. Motivation is what drives naval aviators to do their best, to force them to wake up
every morning and work hard. Curiosity is also a very important quality, as naval aviators spend a
lot of time in the sky looking over the world and travel a lot, so having a curious mindset keeps
them from getting bored. Naval aviation often "involves a counterphobic urge – as one must learn to
enjoy an innately terrifying activity" (Mittauer 4). Also, being responsible and honest is an
important part of the career. Naval aviators need to be extremely careful when flying; if they forget
anything in the slightest, it may result in severe injury for them and others. Moreover, naval aviators
must love their job: protecting the country and representing the nation with their flying skills. One
must accept "implications of combat flying (e.g., being killed, killing enemy and civilians)"
(Mittauer 6). This is what sets naval aviators apart from typical careers in the modern world today.
To start off in the career of a Navy pilot, one must get a bachelor 's

Essay on Naval Aviation
Naval Aviation
Throughout the history of Naval Aviation, one can see a growing force. As new technology and
innovations arose and advanced, Naval Aviation improved as well. In times of war and peace,
through training and dedication, naval aviators improved their abilities and tactics to produce the
fighting force it is today. If by chance, the "revolt of the admirals" had failed, the United States
Military would not be what it is today and the Navy could not have the liberty of enjoying the
Mahanian concept of commanding the sea.
As new technology and innovations arose in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the military potentials
for Naval Aviation were not so evident. Interest grew in 1898 during the inventions of ... Show more

New air stations opened, training programs began at the new Naval Air Stations, colleges and
universities, and with the private industry. Many types of aircraft were produced and an aircraft
engine was advanced from a trial product to mass production and operation.
The flying boat, in 1919, was the first aircraft to fly the Atlantic Ocean. This aircraft was Naval
Aviation's outstanding technical product of World War I. Many aviators were impressed with the
flying boat and urged that it would be the means to take airpower to sea. However, other officers
believed and insisted that aircraft should fly from combatant ships at sea.
During the 1920s, development grew in both the flying boat and the proposed aircraft carrier.
Finally, the aircraft carrier won many hearts of naval officers and the Navy decided to convert a
collier to a carrier. This conversion would be the beginning of a movement that would gain the
attention of ship builders, aircraft designers, and naval tacticians for the years ahead (Grossnick, 23).
In the 1920s, Naval Aviation increased both in size and in strength. In this decade of growth, air
detachments proved themselves effective under the conditions at sea. Three aircraft carriers were in
full operation and patrol squadrons carried out their scouting missions. Each year aircraft flew

The day Japan attacked Pearl Harbor is "a date which will live in infamy." It is the day that would

military, and industry. The United States embargoed and froze Japan's assets, so Japan did not have
the resources that it needed, especially oil. Japan was in dire need of these resources and planned to

Naval Warfare Changes
Naval warfare has been adapting and changing to the technology of the time all throughout the ages.
Since the very first battles in the Aegean Sea, between Greek galleys, to today's massive aircraft
carriers, destroyers, and submarines; each technological step has been taken to try to outdo the
opponent. One major step that naval warfare took was the transition from large numbers of muzzle
loading cannons on either side of the ship to turret guns. The transition from forty to fifty guns
cannons to twelve big guns at the most, had substantial impacts on several aspects of naval
operations. New changes in tactics had to be made to facilitate the use of only a few guns that could
point only one direction at a time. Maritime strategies had to be adjusted to compensate for the
newer, bigger, faster, and more power ships. Procedures had to be changed to make manning the
guns a specific job, but the biggest impact that the implementation ... Show more content on

British Naval Superiority
Throughout the nineteenth century, the British Royal Navy was a force that could not be matched.
Not only did the Navy connect the heart of the empire to its colonies, it also assured the
transportation of resources. In previous years, Britain's possession of coal had been the primary fuel
for global British domination. However, industrialization brought with it new and more efficient
innovations and technology. Embracing technology would lead to the continuation of British
domination, but to not adapt at a time when nations such as Germany and Italy were learning to flex
their military might, would be detrimental to British Naval supremacy. The oil industry has

Chief Of Naval Operations Adm
As Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert once stated, one of the U. S. Navy's

level of Naval operations, leadership, integrity and character have always been vitally important
dimensions of who we are and what we do.
First and foremost, the naval profession exists to serve our country, to help accomplish our nation's
purposes and objectives, and to protect our way of life. Each and every Sailor, as a member of the
United States Navy is called to service above self, to live by a set of core values, outlined in the
Navy ethos as follows.
"We are the United States Navy, our Nation 's sea power – ready guardians of peace, victorious in
war. We are professional Sailors and Civilians – a diverse and agile force exemplifying the highest
standards of service to our Nation, at home and abroad, at sea and ashore. Integrity is the foundation
of our conduct; respect for others is fundamental to our character; decisive leadership is crucial to

Naval Beach Group

  • 1. Naval Beach Group Creating a Purpose Statement for Cloud Technology The purpose of this paper is to outline an information management problem affecting Naval Beach Group and its supporting elements. The current system is not effective due to inefficiency and the distribution of outdated information. Current Problem The current system incorporates the storage of large amounts of information on localized share drives and then the information is sent over email to individuals requesting it. This process is slow and allows for multiple, sometimes outdated, copies of manuals and procedural documents to be used by training and operational units. This is a cumbersome process, which can be streamlined by having a cloud technology. The current system in place is cumbersome, allows for misinformation to be shared, is time intensive, and is not efficient. Naval Beach Group and its supporting elements, need to shift information to the cloud so that all personnel can have access to needed information, which is up to date and can be obtained in a timely manner. This will allow each unit to properly train their personnel and meet operational requirements. Population and Location This issue affects the Naval Beach Group Headquarters Command, along with 8 subordinate commands, which encompasses approximately 3000 service members and 70 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The units are stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Coronado, California, Camp Pendleton, California, Panama City, Florida, and Sasebo, Japan. The unit stationed in Panama City is the test and evaluation unit and provides technical knowledge to the other operational units. At any one time there are roughly 300 service members deployed, from the units based in the continental United States, so this does not include the units stationed in Sasebo, Japan because they are forward deployed and their operational deployment requirements ... • 3. Naval Training Center NTC: Helping Shape "America's Finest City" San Diego has been home to a multitude of stupendous sites over the decades: Seaworld, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Safari Park, and Balboa Park. However, there is a place that has immense amounts of history and culture in our own backyard. It is a place formerly known as the Naval Training center (NTC); it is now known as Liberty Station. It is a beautiful sight, and wealth of knowledge and history, that seeks to actively engage the community in teaching about the past, and learning about the future. The Naval Training Center was such an important site in the building of San Diego's rich heritage and diversity. The Naval Training Center influenced the history of San Diego by not only bringing in money, people, and importance into it, but also using San Diego's heritage, and building upon it. The desire that San Diego had for a naval base came from as far back as 1893, as stated by journalist, Justin Ruhge. This gave San Diego a deep longing for a base here, especially after San Francisco received a station. However, they were not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the 1994 Navy proposed budget, the "NTC contributed almost $80 million to the San Diego economy" (globalsecurity.org). Furthermore, the station brought in 28,000 visitors a year for graduations with 80 percent coming from out of town. These out of town visitors contributed nearly $7 million to the local economy annually. Moreover, the "Navy spent an additional $10 million for base operation support contracts" (Overview | History of the Naval Training Center). This means on top of all the visitors coming in, and experiencing our San Diego culture, work was brought in to bolster the civilians that lived here, and the local economy. Moreover, this meant that the city could better handle a financial crisis that would plague the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is not only built on top of Fort Severn but also built on the base blocks of advancement and resilience to achieve higher goals. USNA has one of the greatest histories of any colleges. Starting in 1845, the institution was only a miniscule 10 acres to its now 338. As well as they had important dates to progress academically and including women into midshipmen. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The institution first started as just a Naval School on 10 acres in Annapolis, Maryland. The location of the school was originally intended to keep the students excluded from the temptations and distractions that necessarily connect with a large and populous city environment. In 1850 the Naval School became the United States Naval Academy. A new curriculum went into effect requiring midshipmen to study at the Academy for four years and to train aboard ships each summer. The U.S. Navy grew over the years and with that, the Academy expanded with it. The campus of 10 acres increased to 338. The original student body of 50 midshipmen grew to a brigade size of 4,000. Modern granite buildings replaced the old wooden structures of Fort Severn. In 1933, the naval academy started to award bachelor degrees in sciences. The Academy later replaced a fixed curriculum taken by all midshipmen with the present core curriculum plus 18 major fields of study. In 1976, they took a large step and started to accept women into the midshipmen program. Even though there were a larger number of men participating in the program, They pursue the same academic and professional training as do their male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Japanese lost many aircraft carriers, military personnel, and aircraft turning the tide in the Pacific Theater. "From December, 1941, until the spring of 1942, Japanese forces conquered British, Dutch, and U.S. possessions in East Asia and the Pacific Ocean"(Watson). The Japanese fast and powerful ships helped them extend their dominance. United States steps in when the Japanese invaded French–Indochina, present Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and issued an oil embargo on the Japanese. This angered the Japanese, So they planned to take over the oil wells in United States. They did this by a surprise attack over the Hawaiian naval base of Pearl Harbor because 60% of the US navy fleet was stationed there. The United States declared war over Japan. Few days later ... "The United States, by contrast, lost only one carrier (the Yorktown), one destroyer, 150 planes, and 307 personnel"(Watson). Japanese morale and their dominance was crushed by this battle. There were many heroes fought in this battle. Chester W Nimitz was the commander of the United States fleet. Japanese Pacific fleet commander of the battle was Chuichi Nagumo. Isoroku Yamamoto planned and assembled the attack and also was the commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Battle of Midway was the turning point in the war. This destroyed most of the aircraft carriers and many of their ships. This battle keeps them on the run. This year Russia has added a second runway to expand it's ability to add more warplanes and bring weapons, ammunition, devices and materials and personnel to respond. The United States has a similar base in Turkey called Incirlik, which has been used for the invasion into Iraq and Afghanistan. If Russia is able to build up Latakia airbase they will have the same ability to react to conflicts and expand its military power in the Middle East to protect the oil and gas assets that Russia owns. When the Soviet Union collapsed, they lost the strength of the military. Over the years The United States and NATO have been the leaders in foreign affairs, which has decreased Russia's economy. Now with Putin in charge, Russia has drastically altered its foreign policies to bring back Russia former glory. • 11. Naval Officer Accomplishments From a young age I have always been in control of my life. Through trials and tribulations I have learned that life does not always go as I planned. I had a goal to attend the United States Naval Academy to pursue a career as a Naval officer. Instead, I received an appointment to the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS), which would delay my entry into the Naval Academy by one year, if I graduated NAPS.The Navy prides itself on its high physical standards, except I did not meet those physical standards and was considered overweight. I did what I was told, but still my weight did not change. Despite my inability to make the weight required, I was chosen to be the Executive Officer of my Battalion. Nevertheless, I would be released from the NAPS a week prior to graduation. Ending my chance to attend the USNA. My life was turned upside down because I had never pictured a life without the USNA. I returned home and pursued college, because I knew that I could not give up on an education, even if it would not be at the USNA. I got a job, and focused on my grades so that I could retain my scholarship. Without the scholarship, I knew that I had no other way to pay for higher education. Prominently my initial experiences while volunteering for Civil Air Patrol have shown me a life dedicated to service is unmeasurably rewarding especially when given the opportunity to lead your peers. Mentoring my followers and learning from their experiences have been so remarkable and rewarding. Deciding to pursue opportunities to lead and serve, the possibility of serving the United States of America as a commissioned officer was perfect. These men and women showed to me how the Naval Academy can give me the opportunity to grow into the best leader – my biggest goal – in the world's greatest Navy. I understand admittance to the Naval Academy is accepting that dedication to a lifetime of service in and out of the Navy. And that's exactly what I want to dedicate my life too. • 15. Naval Career Progression During my high school career, and continuing into my naval career, I have always had a desire to succeed. In high school, I applied myself to become valedictorian, and in the Navy, I have worked hard to become my A–school honorman. This desire to succeed is what initially attracted me to the Naval Academy. Those who enter are regarded as the Navy's finest, and because of the high standards that such a training demands, I hope to be shaped into a sailor that will bring pride to his branch and his country. These same high standards will additionally enable me to reach my long term goals. The first American that reached space, Alan Shepard, was a graduate from the Naval Academy, and I plan to follow in his footsteps just as countless other graduates have done. The number of Academy graduates that have become astronauts is clearly due to the rigorous training, and this training is what I will use to carry me to space. • 17. Alfred Thayer Mahan The Influence Of Sea Power Upon History Alfred Thayer Mahan's seminal work, The Influence of Sea Power upon History, 1660–1783, published in 1891, is an influential work of military theory. Although he is a revered military theorist, Mahan was criticized for "not being a systematic." For example, he failed to consider social and cultural conditions in the rise of sea power; the rise of the English middle class, American agrarian discontent, and the rise of Russia. He also neglected to properly define the term "sea power," of which he claimed to have invented. Even so, two main interpretations of sea power do start to emerge. Firstly, the command of the sea through naval superiority and second, that combination of maritime commerce, overseas possessions, and privileged access to foreign markets that produces national wealth and greatness. Mahan also theorized that a naval fleet should never be divided and that victory at sea is only possible by fleet concentration, his most important principle in naval warfare. During the time of Mahan's publishing, the United States was beginning to change its views on warfare. After the Civil War, US military leaders had more time to devote to studying ... He also insisted that the object of naval warfare must always be to secure the command of the sea or to prevent the enemy from securing it, either directly or indirectly. 35 In his view, command of the sea means ―nothing but the control of maritime communications, whether for commercial or military purposes Corbett believed that in a war between the two strong opponents, command of the sea will be in ... • 19. Summary: The Influence Of Naval Power From 1660 to 1783 Britain's Royal Navy was the superpower of the sea, allowing Britain to establish itself as a world power. Alfred Thayer Mahan realized this link between imperial success and naval superiority. In response Mahan wrote the book The Influence of Sea Power Upon History 1660–1783 exposing the necessity of a strong navy. The United States was at first hesitant to establish a "Mahanian" Navy composed of large battle ships, cruisers, and destroyers (HistoryNet). However, after the Naval victories of the Spanish American war, and after acquiring territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines the United States adopted Mahan's ideology in order to stabilize trade and promote safe commerce. Even in today's American Navy, Mahan's concept of Naval superiority to establish freedom of the seas, and to protect America's foreign territories abroad, are still relevant in the modern era. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... World War Two marked the transition from a Mahanian battleship dominated Navy to a modern air craft carrier dominated Navy (). Even though Mahan didn't predict that battleships would be the dominating naval power, the concept of a powerful Navy still exits. To put it into perspective, today, the United States Navy has a total of 19 air craft carries compared to the rest of the world's twelve aircraft carriers (Jones, Brian). Italy, Spain, and the UK are the only other countries that have more than one aircraft carrier, and they only posses two (Jones, Brian). Even the current Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson, invokes Mahan in his "Design for Maintaining Maritime Superiority"(Holmes, James). The magnitude of the U.S Navy's air craft armada and the influence from the Chief of Naval Operations solidifies that Mahan's theory of Naval Superiority still exits in today's ... Naval History Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) Archaeologist Dr. George Schwarz was joined by more than 45 volunteers from nearly a dozen organizations wading through dense vegetation and sifting through Florida sand Feb. 18–20 in the hopes of finding more clues to a Navy aircraft crash that happened more than seven decades ago. Osteen resident Rodney Thomas uncovered what appeared to be a part from an aircraft more than three years ago when he was experimenting with a new metal detector on his property. After finding dozens of pieces, he decided he wanted to learn about what might have led to the crash, and perhaps the identity of the pilot. Some of these volunteers are retired veterans, they all had guesses on what certain distinguishable aircraft parts were." The largest group of volunteers, 30 people came from The Central Florida Metal Detecting Club (CFMDC), which had been asked by Storz to assist Thomas in evaluating the parts he was finding. In December, they uncovered many more artifacts, which prompted the phone call first to the National Naval Aviation Museum, and then to NHHC. • 29. The Concept Of A Naval Battle The concept of a naval battle has been around since approximately 1210 B.C.E. However, it would be several thousands of years before its most important and revolutionary changes would be brought about. The idea of a submersible ship has been around since the Revolution, although its success was minimal at best. The first modern submarine would be developed in the late 19th century and would be first used successfully in warfare by the Germans in World War 1. It arguably led to the American's victory over Japan in World War II. Since their development submarines have paved the way for the evolution of strategy, revolutionary new tactics, as well as playing a vital role in the nuclear triad, redefining war. No longer would the Mahanian strategy of a decisive battle be the norm, nor considered the best way to fight naval battles. With the advent of the submarine, navies could now look into denying their enemies the sea rather than struggling to control it (Hughes, n.d.). A contributing aspect of this sea denial is the ability to greatly extend coastal defense. Coastal defense can not be looked at in a traditional sense. These ships are not looking to simply defend the coast, but rather are cruising thousands of miles of shore to sink as much of the enemy fleet as possible, thereby crippling their ability to attack (Lautenschlager, 1987). Submarines also introduce a new element to psychological warfare. As stated in Karl Lautenschlager's publication for International Security, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The winners in a naval battle are the most prepared, the ones whose officers and crew react instinctively, drawing on their training to meet virtually any combat circumstance. When one is in a combat situation, one will have to remember without thinking of the immediate action required to prevail. Also, by being under constant fear of both unintentionally breaking the rules and the upperclass's reaction, the plebes are being educated to perform well under stress that few civilians can understand. In this position, I oversaw the training sergeants as they worked with the plebes, and acted as a medium of communication between the Company Officer and Senior Enlisted Leader and the rest of the Company for training matters. I thoroughly enjoyed my semester as training officer. The majority of my work centered on the training of the plebe class. Given a general mission to train the Plebe class to be ready for Youngster Year at the Naval Academy by the Company Officer, I was given flexibility in doing whatever I saw fit to meet those ends. In my role, I would frequently issue orders (through the training sergeants). Sometimes, things went according to plans. Sometimes, they did not. It became very important, when issuing new orders for the Plebe class, that I had a specific purpose and intent. Analyzing both my reasoning, the means in which the command was implemented, and the reaction from its implementation, were important facets of reflection. • 43. The Differences Of Naval Architecture Vs. Marine Engineering Naval Architecture vs. Marine Engineering Throughout the years we have had an advance in the technology of boats and other marine structures. There are different fields that you can go into if you wish to help with this advancement. Two of the different fields are Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. The main differences and similarities between Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering are what they design, who they communicate with during the building process, and the type of tests that they conduct. Naval Architecture is where the ship building process begins. These architects are responsible for research and development, designing, building and repairing different types of marine vessels. These vessels can include, but are not limited to, ferries, high–speed boats, tankers, cargo ships, passenger liners, yachts, power boats, warships, fishing boats, rescue boats, barges, submarine, offshore structures, and aircraft meant to land on water. They are responsible for studying design proposals and specifications for all the vessels. These architects are also responsible for designing the ship's hull, waterline curves, and all other structures of the boat. When building they have to take in account the economic feasibility, as well as making sure they are within all national and international safety and regulatory standards. Furthermore, communication is always key to any project. During the ship building process, the architects are constantly communicating with Marine Engineers. They discuss the layout of all the important internal systems of the boat. Some of these systems are the boiler room equipment, heating and ventilation, refrigeration equipment, electrical distribution, safety systems, steering, and propulsion machinery. They also communicate with each other. Since they are part of a team they have to communicate with each other to ensure everyone is doing their part and all the work is being done properly. Also, if you are a naval architect and have experience traveling on the water, you could have the opportunity to provide onboard safety training to other crews. Naval pilots have unstable futures – they can be deployed to war anytime anywhere, leave their family, or even die in battle. Curiosity is also a very important quality, as naval aviators spend a lot of time in the sky looking over the world and travel a lot, so having a curious mindset keeps them from getting bored. Naval aviation often "involves a counterphobic urge – as one must learn to enjoy an innately terrifying activity" (Mittauer 4). Also, being responsible and honest is an important part of the career. Naval aviators need to be extremely careful when flying; if they forget anything in the slightest, it may result in severe injury for them and others. Moreover, naval aviators must love their job: protecting the country and representing the nation with their flying skills. One must accept "implications of combat flying (e.g., being killed, killing enemy and civilians)" (Mittauer 6). This is what sets naval aviators apart from typical careers in the modern world today. However, other officers believed and insisted that aircraft should fly from combatant ships at sea. During the 1920s, development grew in both the flying boat and the proposed aircraft carrier. Finally, the aircraft carrier won many hearts of naval officers and the Navy decided to convert a collier to a carrier. This conversion would be the beginning of a movement that would gain the attention of ship builders, aircraft designers, and naval tacticians for the years ahead (Grossnick, 23).
