Transcritical CO2 condensing unit driven by DC inverter technology for small ...CAREL Industries S.p.A
The use of carbon dioxide is nowadays a standard for commercial refrigeration in Europe. CO2 compressor racks are widely used in the hypermarket and supermarket while CO2 condensing units are delaying their entry in the small format stores slowed by higher costs and complexity.
CAREL is promoting a new solution for CO2 condensing unit with DC inverter compressors in order to accelerate the introduction of carbon dioxide in this segment and to comply with the main regulations addressed to the low ambient impact both direct using low GWP refrigerants and indirect focusing on high energy efficiency systems.
The DC inverter technology stands out for the real and wide capacity modulation. By the use of DC inverter compressors it is possible to achieve the best energy performance for each load condition reducing the operating cost and increasing the quality of food preservation with stable regulation and reliable working operations.
Compactness, overall reduction of cost and ease to use are the others key factors of CAREL Hecu sistema in order to overcome the current limitations to the use of natural refrigerants in the small format stores.
Raul Simonetti, CAREL HVAC/R Knowledge Centre Corporate Business Manager, has held a webinar organised by Centro Studi Galileo, speaking about alternative refrigerants for the air conditioning.

JKIT AURA -IoT platform for remote environment sensing and monitoringuthpala88
AURA by John Keells IT is an integrated IoT platform that offers real-time environment monitoring capabilities by seamlessly connecting with multiple external devices and creating succinct Web-based MIS dashboards using device-generated data.
In its initial phase, JKIT AURA was rolled out the hospitality sector to improve the performance of cold chain operations. Aura measures many physical and chemical parameters such as temperature, humidity and air quality. These parameters are used to detect and manage any environmental microbiological hazards.
Previously the monitoring method was manual (via walk-by inspection), which often resulted in data errors and food waste. Aura was implemented in the cold storage environment to collect data, monitor, perform data analytics, actuate events, manage KPI and provide visualization tools for business insights throughout the life cycle of food preparation.
Win results for the customer includes:
• Reduction of food waste - Automation of processes and real-time alerts help the business to make informed and timely decisions that contribute directly to cost savings.
• Improved Safety and Quality – The data accuracy improved immediately, as did food safety and quality.
• Business Intelligence and Insights - Aura assesses inventory, raises alerts and provides valuable business insights.
Industry and government experts will discuss Australian, New Zealand's and global policy and regulatory issues and the impact of the cooling sector on climate change. Key topics discussed will include the Kigali Amendment, the transition to zero net emissions systems, sustainability and renewables in integrated solutions.
As a leader in providing of cold chain compliance services, packaging and intelligent monitoring solutions, we hope that you will find everything you need to assure your product remains in compliance with regulatory guidelines, and is stored or transported under ideal conditions.

The use of CO2 in Europe as refrigerant in commercial refrigeration is getting more and more common. Starting from the big compressor rack for hypermarket, then with small and cost effective solution for small supermarket, now the attention of the industry is moved to small condensing unit for C-Store and very small formats.
The technology applied in the compressor rack application is not directly applicable in the condensing unit world, historically driven by initial cost and ease of use.
CAREL is offering now a full solution for CO2 transcritical condensing unit able to guarantee
- Energy efficiency thanks to specific components able to work at very high pressure but specifically design for such small capacity
- DC compressors technology to further improve the energy efficiency not reachable
- Full control of the system to guarantee best perfomances and reliability
- Advanced display and remote connection to maximize the ease of use.
CO2 transcritical condensing unit are available in the market since years but never getting the appropriate success due mostly to unavailability of adequate components (especially compressors) to correctly place this solution into the market.
CAREL already market leader of this application is now proposing a new solution equipped with DC compressors that are able to improve the performances and at the same time reducing overall costs and dimensions of the whole unit.
This speech informs about the excellent key performance factors of BLDC technology in this application and explains the specific control and system demands.

Andrea Oscar Frisiero, Application Specialist – Indoor Air Quality and Climate Control e Andrea Pagan, Application Manager – Ventilation and Systems a MCE Live & Digital 2021.

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

• Rising Interest Natural refrigerants DC waterloop system are becoming a reality all over
the world (mainly Europe and Australia)
• High-tech solution Potential issues on Nat Ref are solved by using the advanced Carel
solutions and our support
• Norms and technology Clear and harmonized normative, training, best practices and
knowledge sharing are vital for the success of this new frontier for natural refrigerants
• Business Drivers Energy efficiency is not the only driver. TCO: total cost of ownership of
refrigeration systems running for at least 10 years
• Flexible Solution There’s No unique natural choice: Propane Vs. CO2. End user can decide
the Nat Ref that fits better with its own needs
