- Past examples show that crowdsourcing can produce peer-reviewed research publications and new scientific discoveries when best practices are followed. With proper support, crowdsourcing has the potential to generate large volumes of reusable, semantically enriched data.

Visualization and Analysis of Dynamic Networks
DynNetwork development was taken up initially by Sabina Sara Pfister back in GSoC 2012. She laid out a strong foundation for dynamic network visualization in Cytoscape and my job was to extend the plugin’s functionality to help users analyse time changing networks. The two of us were mentored by Jason Montojo. We had developed a decent tool over the course of two GSoC programs to aid dynamic network analysis and our efforts culminated in DynNetwork getting accepted for an oral presentation at the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA), Sunbelt 2014 which was held in St. Petersburg, FL in February.

Sima Das is a PhD candidate at Missouri University of Science and Technology studying computer science. She has published several papers on analyzing large scale networks and predicting future links and contacts. Her research interests include information diffusion, temporal centrality metrics, and their effects in predicting mobility in dynamic networks. She has experience working on projects related to secure sensor cloud computing, green computing, wireless sensor networks, and mobile data management.

This curriculum vitae summarizes the education and experience of Wenbo He. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Boston University, with research interests in information theory, channel coding, source coding, and interference management for wireless communications. His experience includes graduate research at BU developing OFDM and interference management algorithms, and undergraduate research involving software-defined radio. He has published 8 papers in these areas.

1) The study analyzed 273 images from Google News and 240 images from Yahoo News to examine how technology is visually represented.
2) It found that images of inanimate objects and corporate logos were more common than images of humans, indicating a disembodied view of technology. Men were also significantly more likely to be depicted than women.
3) Images mostly showed individuals rather than groups, romanticizing the "lone inventor". Men were more often shown as technology executives or users, while women were more likely to be depicted as objects or not engaging with technology at all.

Biography: Jungwon Yoon is a research fellow at Soongsil University in South Korea. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology of Technology and Science from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. Her areas of expertise are in science and technology studies (STS), including science & technology policy, sociology of sciences, innovation studies, and technology management. Her current research focuses on dynamics of innovation systems in both South and North Korea. Her latest publications include "Triple helix dynamics of South Korea’s innovation system: a network analysis of inter-regional technological collaborations" and "Quintuple helix structure of Sino-Korean research collaboration in science."
Re-identification of Anomized CDR datasets using Social networlk Data
This document discusses re-identifying users across anonymized datasets using social network data. Network literacy is important as our world becomes increasingly connected through networks. A basic understanding of how networks work and their benefits and limitations is needed for all people living in today's networked world. Networks exist in every aspect of life, from communication systems and social networks to biological and economic networks. Understanding networks can help reveal patterns and allow comparisons across different types of systems. While networks are ubiquitous, the study of networks is currently absent from educational systems. This document provides an introduction to network literacy through seven essential concepts.
Reality Mining (Nathan Eagle)
Reality mining aims to map an organization's cognitive infrastructure by capturing detailed data on human networks using sensors. It analyzes conversations, topics, locations and relationships between individuals to infer expertise, social networks and how communication may change. This could help with applications like knowledge management, team formation and understanding global influences in an organization. However, it also raises privacy concerns that would need to be addressed.
Mobile user context identification
User context in mobile applications refers to information about the user and environment that can be used to tailor applications to the user's situation. This includes factors like the user's location, time of day, network conditions, activity, and nearby resources. Context-aware applications aim to provide relevant information to users by sensing context and adapting. Examples include call forwarding systems that route calls based on location and activity context, shopping assistants that provide information tailored to the user's location and identity, and tourist guides that recommend places based on the user's current location. Challenges include accurately identifying dynamic context factors both indoors and outdoors using sensors and past user data. Network literacy is important as our world becomes increasingly connected through networks. A basic understanding of how networks work and their benefits and limitations is needed for all people living in today's networked world. Networks exist in every aspect of life, from communication systems and social networks to biological and economic networks. Understanding networks can help reveal patterns and allow comparisons across different types of systems. While networks are ubiquitous, the study of networks is currently absent from educational systems. This document provides an introduction to network literacy through seven essential concepts.
Reality Mining (Nathan Eagle)
Reality mining aims to map an organization's cognitive infrastructure by capturing detailed data on human networks using sensors. It analyzes conversations, topics, locations and relationships between individuals to infer expertise, social networks and how communication may change. This could help with applications like knowledge management, team formation and understanding global influences in an organization. However, it also raises privacy concerns that would need to be addressed.
Mobile user context identification
User context in mobile applications refers to information about the user and environment that can be used to tailor applications to the user's situation. This includes factors like the user's location, time of day, network conditions, activity, and nearby resources. Context-aware applications aim to provide relevant information to users by sensing context and adapting. Examples include call forwarding systems that route calls based on location and activity context, shopping assistants that provide information tailored to the user's location and identity, and tourist guides that recommend places based on the user's current location. Challenges include accurately identifying dynamic context factors both indoors and outdoors using sensors and past user data. Context must then be processed and used to make decisions about how applications should behave

Mobile data offloading

Social Software and Community Information Systems
Social Software links social entities on the Internet. With this term we label new communication and collaboration media like wikis, blogs, social bookmarking but also traditional media supporting communities of practice. Scientific and professional communities challenge information systems engineering with high demands on traceable and secured collaboration and processing of scientific data. Flexibility, adaptation, interoperability are only a few requirements to mention.
With the advent of international standards XML-based standards like MPEG-7 for the handling of complex multimedia metadata and service oriented architectures engineers and community facilitators can create more generic services for the many communities with diverse but professional needs. Therefore, communities have to be incorporated in the community information systems engineering process.

Semantic Massage Addressing based on Social Cloud Actor's Interests
Wireless communication with Mobile Terminals has become popular tools for collecting and sending information and data. With mobile communication comes the Short Message Service (SMS) technology which is an ideal way to stay connected with anyone, anywhere anytime to help maintain business relationships with customers. Sending individual SMS messages to long list of mobile numbers can be very time consuming, and face problems of wireless communications such as variable and asymmetric bandwidth, geographical mobility and high usage costs and face the rigidity of lists. This paper proposes a technique that assures sending the message to semantically specified group of recipients. A recipient group is automatically identified based on personal information (interests, work place, publications, social relationships, etc.) and behavior based on a populated ontology created by integrating the publicly available FOAF (Friend-of-a-Friend) documents. We demonstrate that our simple technique can first, ensure extracting groups effectively according to the descriptive attributes and second send SMS effectively and can help combat unintentional spam and preserve the privacy of mobile numbers and even individual identities. The technique provides fast, effective, and dynamic solution to save time in constructing lists and sending group messages which can be applied both on personal level or in business.
