BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
The author SHIELA DONNA M. GELUA was born on the 19th
day of May 1996 at
Brgy. M. Roxas Bulan Sorsogon. She is the eldest daughter of Mr. Christopher B. Gelua and
Mrs. Eva M. Gelua. She has three brothers and one sister namely; Christian, Jobert, Moises and
Donna Lyn.
She finished her elementary education at M. Roxas Elementary School and her
secondary education at San Francisco National High School. After her four years of struggles in
high school, she decided to stop at least one year in her studies because of the financial problem.
She decided to work for at least 8 months at Cavite. After that, her uncle offered to help and
support her just to continue her studies in college. Then, she continued her tertiary education at
Bataan Peninsula State University Abucay, Bataan, where she took up Bachelor in Secondary
Education Major in Agriculture.
Her goal in life is to become a successful person and to achieve all her dreams in life.
She wants to help her family to improve their life. And also she wants her family to become
proud of her achievement in life. That’s why the author believes that ‘’Dreams don’t work unless
you do’’.

NARRATION OF EXPERIENCES
Introduction
One of the basic stages of the teaching career during the undergraduate study is student
teaching. It is the most important phase of the teacher education program where the prospective
teacher practically applied the knowledge, skills, abilities and strategies they acquired in the
classroom.
The student teaching experience provides pre-service teachers the space and
opportunity to learn how to ask important questions about teaching and learning, come to
know children and adolescents by observing and interacting with them consistently over
time, apply newly acquired knowledge, theories, strategies and models in a variety of
contexts within and across classrooms, and experiment with, design and adapt practice
according to learners' needs.
During the student teaching experience, pre-service teachers are guided and
instructed by two key individuals - the cooperating or mentor teacher, and the university
supervisor. While both work collaboratively to support the growth and development of the
student teacher, each assumes a very specific role.
During this period, adjustment is craved for it requires a wider understanding,
patience and a deeper appreciation of the teaching process. Wonders are discovered,
hardships are overcome and courage is developed.

Observation and Participation Activities
Before the off-campus training, they are oriented so that they will be aware of the
duties and responsibilities of a practice teacher.
It was on January 3, 2017 when Ms. Esperanza S. Reyes accompanied them to their
designated cooperating school.
They arrived at the school at 1:00 pm. She felt nervous and excited because she did
not know who would be her cooperating teacher, what kind of students she would teach and
the different experiences she would encounter.
Ms. Esperanza S. Reyes introduced Mrs. Santos the dorm in charge; she oriented
them about the rules and regulations inside and outside the dorm.
The following day, the student teachers finally met Mrs. Soledad C. Sciazar Officer
in charge/Head of the TVE Department; she oriented them about the school, and gave them
their assigned cooperating teacher. She assigned her to Mrs. Romualda T. Babor who
taught TVE 8.
Then after the orientation, they look for their cooperating teachers for signing of
the confirmation sheet. She met Sir Joel Marzan who’s also the practice teacher of Mrs.
Babor.
The following days Mrs. Babor allowed her to observe her class and introduced her
to the students of 8-Rizal, 8-Mabini, 8-Del Pilar and 8- Bonifacio.

She observed carefully her student’s attitude and behavior so that she would know
how to deal with them. She was determined to be slightly strict to those students who are
naughty and not attentive during the discussion.
Actual Teaching Activities
Observation helped her to be prepared in the actual teaching situation.
She started her actual teaching after one week of observation; she handled four
sections and started to teach the grade eight students. In the beginning of her actual
teaching, she was nervous and excited but she was able to gain more confidence when the
class ended.
During the discussion, she found out that there were inattentive students, and they
are so aggressive. They fight each other and she felt shock and nervous, she doesn’t know
what to do. So, she thought of using a strategy for the next day. She realized that it is not
easy to become a teacher. She has to bear pain and sacrifices.
She encountered students using the illegal drugs, smoking cigarettes inside the
comfort room, they are cutting their classes and one time one of her student burned the
comfort room. She felt thankful because no one got hurt and injured. After the incident
happened, one of her students kicked out in that school. She decided to know more about
those kinds of students and talking them that they are not going good and it can affects
their studies and future. She already knows why the students are like those bad ones. Some
students are broken family, financial problems, and she also discovered that her students
can’t read because they don’t know how to read; also they are bullied during their class.

After so many days of meeting them, she enjoyed the students company
especially during their time in farming. Working with them was a quite difficult task
because of their individual difference. But knowing their individual differences such as
varied interest, habits, skills and behaviors is one of the important factors that make
teaching and learning become effective and successful.
When the night is coming, every one of them is busy in making their lesson plan
and visual aids. It is tiring but it is made her feel better especially when the students
learned from the lesson she prepared. Her cooperating teacher asked to give her prepared
lesson plan to be checked and evaluated.
Her final demonstration was scheduled on March 15, 2017 at 1:00 to 2:00 in the
afternoon. Her topic was entitled “Poultry Farming Equipment and their uses’’ She
prepared all the materials that she needed in the said activities. Her final demonstration was
successfully done through the help of her cooperating teacher and her students.
Practice teaching was a very challenging event of her life because she learned how
to handle students with different attitudes. This off-campus training helped her to develop
her patience and confidence.
Ancillary Service and Co-Curricular Activities
Off campus training is not only limited to the classroom teaching but also involves
the second task that the student teachers supposed to undertake. Working with the
cooperating teacher is a vital importance to the intern’s success as future teachers. Smooth

and cordial relationship should always be observed and due respect must be given to every
member of the school.
During her internship in Fortunato F. Halili National Agricultural School, she was
given the chance to do some school works like computation of grades, checking of test
papers, projects and recording grades. Her cooperating teacher also asked her to monitor
other sections during their exam. She had also given a chance to become a lecturer and
demonstrator during the 18th
Bulacan Council Scout Jamboree.

EVALUATION OF EXPERIENCES
Insight Gained from all the Phase of Student Teaching Program
Student teaching is very unforgettable moment for the student teacher.
Because of her off-training it became meaningful and fruitful to her. It helped her
discovered her own strength and weaknesses in certain phase of teaching. From these
experiences, she learned how to handled students with different personalities. She also
learned that teachers should have a big heart to understand his/her student’s attitude and be
flexible to handle different situations.
In practice teaching, cooperation and respect is very important especially
inside and outside the classroom, so learn how to mingle with different persons with
different attitudes. She also discovered that one teacher cannot teach his/her lessons that
she/he doesn’t know, that’s a teacher should also be a researcher and an explorer.
Problems Encountered During the Internship Period
Difficulties occur whether you like it or not. During their internship, the author
experienced some problems in handling all her students are very talkative and very
aggressive. Her students are using cigarettes inside the comfort room while she is
discussing her lesson. They also shouted and uttered bad words even in the front of their
teacher and other people. They fought each other during their discussion and in their

farming area also. It was very difficult to impose discipline in their classroom and in their
farming area but she was determined and applies what she learned in her ROTC.
It’s really hard to adjust during the first and second week but later on, she was
able to solve the small problems that she encountered, and was able to adjust herself with
the students and environment.
Suggestion, Reaction and Recommendation
As regards to her experiences in off-campus training she would like to make
some suggestions or recommendations with the hope that the program of student teaching
will be effective not only for the teachers but also for the students.
1. Let the student teacher choose the school where they will undergo their practice
teaching.
2. The student teacher should be properly observed by his/her cooperating teacher for
her to know his strength and weaknesses.
3. The cooperating teacher should consider his/her intern’s suggestion for
improvement especially in the field of agriculture to develop her self-reliance and
self-confidence.
4. The cooperating teacher should give intensive supervision and full support over the
student teachers so that they will be guided to the tasks that they are performing.
5. Motivate students well.

6. Constructive criticisms should be given to student teachers for them to improve
their methods and techniques in terms of teaching.
7. Ask students questions that will develop their critical thinking skills.
8. Require the student teachers to participate or attend school activities to improve
their personality.
9. Discipline must be emphasized to the students.
10. And lastly, student teachers must be punctual at all times.

The general objectives of student teaching are to provide the student teacher
with teaching skills and to equip hi/her with meaningful experience in carrying out the
noble mission of molding the youth.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Student Teacher
Before a student teacher becomes a successful one, he needs to be aware on
the duties and responsibilities of the student teachers.
1. Set clear purpose
Competent teachers have clear purpose in mind for each learning
experiences.
2. Study individual and class needs.
Formulate purposes and base his plans on the specific needs and interest of
the students.
3. Provide environment for learning.
It should be a healthful environment with proper ventilation, lighting and
temperature. It should be conducive to learning experiences.
4. Use appropriate methods and materials.
Employ skills in using the effective methods and instructional materials.
5. Maintain professional relationship
Establish friendly and favorable relationship with one’s co-workers,
students, parents, the community and the profession which is clearly outlined in
the Code of Ethics for Teachers.

order to produce many dressed chicken in a short

Water is added into the egg washer and then the
egg washing powder is added also.

Therefore, the drinkers are equipment used for
supplying water to the birds. You must ensure that
the drinkers are washed regularly to avoid disease.

Lastly, the use of protective clothing for humans
is very necessary. Special protective clothing like
hair caps, disposable sleeves, boots and coverall
are required to avoid transfer or contamination
from the birds to man or from man to the birds.

before delivery.

 The drinkers are equipment used for
supplying water to the birds.

 This poultry equipment is used for
keeping poultry birds. Coops and
cages are poultry equipment suitable
for small scale poultry farming.
 Dressing Machine.
 This is equipment used for
feathering birds after slaughter. The
use of a dressing machine makes
chicken dressing easier, clean and
hygienic.

Also, it is important to ensure that visitor disinfect
their hands before touching the birds.

the poultry farming equipment and their uses?

HISTORY OF THE COOPERATING SCHOOL
The Fortunato F. Halili National Agricultural School (FFHNAS) in short was formerly
known as the Halili High School under the division office which was founded in the year 1945,
named after the late Governor Halili. In 1955, a Bill was introduced by the then Congressman
Rogaciano Mercado converting the said school into a vocational school known as Philippine
Poultry school under Republic Act No. 1944. It was only on June 1959 the Halili High School
was renamed Philippine Poultry and vocational subjects were offered in the first year while the
second, third and fourth year classes continued to carry the curriculum under the former name
Halili High School. The first graduate of the vocational curriculum was in 1962. After a number
of year under the name of Philippine Poultry School, the school populace claimed that there is a
need to change the name for it was a misnomer and the people think that said school was only
offering poultry and swine subjects and those who graduate from the said school could not
pursue college education. In nineteen hundred sixty nine the school prepares a bill and presented
it to Congressman Rogaciano Mercado converting the Philippine Poultry School into a national
agricultural school of Secondary and collegiate levels. Said bill was passed by both Houses at the
Sixth Congress of the Republic of the Philippines at its Fourth Session. Although the bill that
was passed by both Houses was to convert the Philippine Poultry School to Sta. Maria,
Agricultural School, Sta. Maria, Bulacan, it was this reason that Philippine National
Agricultural School was used and not Sta. Maria Agricultural School. When the Halili High
School was organized in 1945, it was housed at the back of the Elementary School of Sta.
Maria, Bulacan and in view of the limited space and due to increase in enrolment, a

negotiation was made between the school head and the owner of the site in barrio Bagbaguin,
Sta. Maria, Bulacan. After a number of meeting, said site was acquired through donation by
three donors. The site was developed and new buildings were constructed. In view of the
limited area which is only .53 ha. There was imperative need to look for a bigger site and the
approval of the conversion of said school to vocational with a bigger appropriation. The
school was able to acquire through appropriation 15.75 hectares worth P 192,000.00 located
at Guyong, Sta. Maria, Bulacan which is the present site of our school our school. It was in
the year 1992 that the Philippine National Agricultural school was renamed Fortunato F.
Halili National Agricultural School in honor of the late Governor of Bulacan.
