Essay On All That Glitters Is Not Gold
Crafting an essay on the topic "All That Glitters Is Not Gold" presents a unique set of
challenges. At first glance, the phrase may seem simple and straightforward, but delving deeper
into its layers reveals a complex exploration of human perception, deception, and the inherent
nature of appearances. The task is not merely to scratch the surface but to unearth the profound
meanings embedded in this proverb.
One of the initial challenges lies in deciphering the metaphorical richness of the saying. It
demands a nuanced understanding of the human psyche and the often misleading allure of
external appearances. As a writer, you need to navigate through the intricacies of language to
convey the depth of this age-old wisdom effectively. The essay must go beyond the surface
interpretation and explore various facets of life where the glittering facade might overshadow
the true essence.
Furthermore, structuring the essay poses its own set of difficulties. Balancing the introduction to
capture the reader's attention, developing a coherent body that explores different dimensions of
the proverb, and crafting a conclusion that leaves a lasting impact require careful consideration.
The challenge is to seamlessly weave together anecdotes, examples, and analysis to present a
comprehensive view while maintaining the essay's overall coherence.
Addressing potential counterarguments adds another layer of complexity. While advocating for
the idea that appearances can be deceiving, acknowledging exceptions or instances where
superficial glitter aligns with genuine value adds credibility to the essay. Striking the right
balance between presenting a compelling argument and acknowledging the nuances of the topic
is a delicate task.
Researching diverse examples from literature, history, and contemporary events to bolster your
arguments requires time and effort. The challenge is not only to find relevant examples but also
to analyze and present them in a way that aligns with the overarching theme of the essay.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic "All That Glitters Is Not Gold" demands a skillful
combination of linguistic prowess, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of human nature.
It involves navigating through the complexities of the proverb, structuring the essay effectively,
addressing counterarguments, and researching diverse examples. Only with careful consideration
of these aspects can a writer successfully convey the profound message encapsulated in this
timeless saying.

Making Business in China

INTERNATIONAL MARKETING
China s culture and business practices differ from Europe or even North American.
As you start making business in China, having an understanding of Chinese business
etiquette is important to your success. Knowing and practicing common customs will
also help you to avoid embarrassment, and focus on the matters at hand on critical
occasions.
Appearance
One of the most visible changes to the human landscape of China over the past few
decades has been the change in dress code. Many men now wear suits and ties and
women tend to wear skirts and blouses of a modest cut. It is advisable to have smart
business attire with you when visiting.

That s why most of foreign businessmen hire a lawer while they negotiate with
Chinese people.
One of the most important things about Chinese culture is the gift. Not only is the
choice of gift important in Chinese culture, but how much you spend on it, how you
wrap it, and how you present it are equally important.
Dining
Dining is used to probe positions without any formal commitment. Business is
generally not discussed during meals. Meals are a vehicle for indirect business
references. Seating is one of the most important parts of the dinner. The most senior
person will sit furthest from the entrance and facing the door. The guest of honor sits
to the most senior person s right. The person paying the bill sits opposite the guest of
honor and closest to the door.
Always arrive exactly on time for a banquet. Never arrive early for dinner. This
implies that you are hungry and that you are here only for the food.
At the end of the dinner, do not forget to leave some food on your plate during each
course of a meal to honor the generosity of your host. It is bad manners for a
Chinese host not to keep refilling guests plates or teacups. Also, if you are the guest
of honor at a dinner, leave shortly after the meal is finished, as no one will leave
before the guest of honor.
Conclusion
Doing research on the market is important in China, but personal relationships are
equally essential to business success here. It is crucial to establish and maintain good

Evaluation of Talisman Energy s Hydraulic
Fracturing Practises in Hudson Hope
ABSTRACT
To meet the demand of oil in today s oil dependent society, Talisman Energy is
looking to exploit a mine located in Hudson Hope, British Colombia. The most
suitable extraction process is hydraulic fracturing, which currently presents several
environmental concerns to the residents located near the mine, and a representation
of the general public who believe that hydraulic fracturing is not an ethical method
of extraction. Talisman Energy has recently been granted a long term contract to
utilize fresh water from BC Hydro s Williston Reservoir. Local residents are
concerned about the additives used in Talismans fracking process, as well as the ...

In July 2011, Talisman Energy was granted permission to build a fresh water
withdrawal pipe link to tap BC Hydro s Williston Reservoir for its fracking
operations in the Montney Deep Shale Formation. This was granted in the form of
a long term water licence that would allow for the necessary constant fresh water
source for its fracking operations located near the small town of Hudson Hope.
Talisman s initial proposal includes its proposed water withdrawal figures, totalling
484 million gallons of fresh water3. This amount of water is comparable to the
amount of water that could be stored in about 3, 47 story high rises.
It is no surprise that the residents of Hudson Hope have expressed concern in
Talismans permanent water licence. In addition, a drought in July 2010 leaves the
Williston Reservoir levels lower than usual. Residents have also expressed concern
over the additives that are added to the fracking fluid. Due to the intense crack
propagation induced by fracking, these additives are subject to enter the ground water
supply, and in the past have been present in drinking water. Hydraulic fracturing
poses several environmental concerns that question its ethical

The Relationship Between Richard II and The Myrroure for Magistrates
The relationship between Richard II and The Myrroure for Magistrates is considered
here predominantly in the context of the differences between the two texts.[1] The
function of each text is discussed initially, the didactic purpose of the Myrroure
contrasted with the function of Shakespeare s play as, primarily, theatrical
entertainment. The conflicting accounts of certain events from Richard s reign are
looked at subsequently and the manner in which they reflect the different function of
the texts. Finally, consideration is given to the different way in which the Myrroure
and Richard II each reflect upon the theme of kingship ... Show more content on

His message can be contradictory, for he does see his murder as causeles (l. 116)
and his opponents as traytrous (l. 114). Yet the overwhelming force of his own
argument is that his reign was characterised by vices (ll. 2 34), and that he fell / to
make the living wise (l.23). The strict, consistent rhyme scheme drives home the
didactic message of the poem, as does the repeated use of alliteration, such as shame
sueth sinne (l.18).
Shakespeare s Richard is a more complex, contradictory character, reflecting the
theatrical purpose of the play. Richard is shown as well as told which, particularly
during the first two Acts, results in conflicting impressions of him. In Act 1 Scene 1,
he appears as the regal, impartial (1.1.115) king, not born to sue, but to command
(1.1.196). The following scene begins to undermine this, as God s substitute (1.2.37)
is implicated by Gaunt in the death of the Duke of Gloucester. Richard s appearance
in the richly formal third scene reinforces his initial, regal portrayal but subsequently,
his expressed desire for Gaunt s physician... / To help him to his grave immediately

Giovanni Battista Tiepolo s The Immaculate Conception
Dear John, How are you doing, work and your family? I hope very thing is going
pretty good. It is my pleasure to use this opportunity to write to you and inform you
on my experience about my travel trip to Madrid Spain during the Easter holidays.
Actually it was a great experience of a life time, I visited so many places but the
most important and interesting that I want to share with you is my visit to the
MUSEO NACIONAL DEL PRADO museum in Madrid, which I get to see The
Immaculate Conceptionartwork. It was created by a roman artist Tiepolo,
Giambattista during 1769 1769 in RomeItaly. Which shows the Virgin Mary appears
on the globe of the World and the crescent Moon, stepping on the serpent of
Original Sin and crowned by the Dove of the Holy Ghost. She is surrounded by
angels and by some of her customary symbols, including a spray of lilies, a palm
branch, a fountain and a mirror. The artist uses this scene to show the traditional
manner of representing the Virgin s Immaculate Conception, which occurred
without Original Sin. Although it was expensive but I really learn a lot and had a
good time, the air ticket to Madrid Spain was $1499, and I spent $1600 other
expenses like local transport, food, gift and hotel, which cost 658 EUR, that $ 912
for 2 night at $456 per night. A number of countries are considered to be under the
patronage of the Immaculate Conception by pontifical decree. These include

Kindred Research Paper
About a month ago, I found myself researching the history of the Mammy
stereotype/caricature for a paper I had to do on the book Kindred by Octavia
Butler. Twenty minutes into my research I somehow ended all the way up onto the
Wikipedia page on the 1915 film, Birth of a Nation, which romanticized the Klu
Klux Klan. I then discovered why Nate Parker chose the title for his own film and
that the 1915 version was the very first film shown in the white house. After
twenty minutes I suddenly remembered the focus of my paper and went back on
topic. I remember saying to myself I could spend my life doing this . In the recent
years, with the start and spread of the Black Lives Matter movement, my love for
researching, basically anything, has shifted it s focus. When I was younger I used
to love researching biology, happily watching Animal planet as my main informant.
But, now it has grown into an inquiry for history and more specifically black
history. The movement has sparked an interest into politics and social justice. After a
hashtag would sadly be made to bring attention to the death of a victim of police
brutality, I would find myself spending hours looking at tweets. Twitter providing me
information about policies, statistics, political candidates, and differing
opinions.More than I would have probably ever learned without it. Even now, it is
my main source of information for the presidential election and has proven to be very

Land Mafia And The Land Mafia
Outside of the economy, Lapierre accurately reflects the grip the local mafia has on
the outskirts of urban areas. In the novel, the gap in government, police, and legal
authority, Was promptly filled by the Mafia who reigned supreme over the City of
Joy (CoJ, 296). There was outrage when municipal dairies were housed in the slums
of Anand Nagar, but nothing could be done, and, The Godfather had been on of the
principal beneficiaries of this operation (CoJ,299). Kundu discusses the interactions
between the Land Mafiaand citizens being displaced. Land Mafia actually refers to
a collection of corrupt civil servants who illegally sell land. Despite the difference
between Lapierre s Mafia and Kundu s Land Mafia, both groups have to deal with
formal and informal powers. The Mafia has to deal with formal structures of power,
and the Land Mafia has to crossover to more informal structures. Lapierre mostly
glosses over this aspect of the Mafia s presence, and focuses more on a more micro
level effects of the mafia, like the Godfather s ability to break up a mob that Kovalski
encountered. Through actions such as the unionization and mentioning the Mafia s
dealings, Lapierre brings a limited amount of attention to informal and formal
relationships in urban development, which is what Kundu s paper focuses on. Even
though Lapierre does great job of including the informal sector, he uses it more to
paint an accurate picture of the environment the three main characters are in, and
Social Darwinism And Natural Selection
It is almost undeniable that the technologies cause rapid changes in human
relationships, cultures, and societies. While it enormously facilitates us in nearly
every aspect of our life, such changes also create consequences that we do not yet
realize. Almost all of us know Darwinism and Natural Selection in the biological
field, but we often overlook the similar phenomena in the social aspect. In fact,
resemble to the way we adapt to our physical environment, we also adapt to our social
environment in order to survive and excel in our social relationships. Such adaption
is called Social Darwinism. Because technologies have significantly influenced our
social environment, humans are forced to adapt not only to technologies, but also to

The reason behind such decision is that unless in urgent situations, other people
expect them to text, the technology that is more prevalent and requires less effort to
respond than phone (Turkle 375). Although Tara and Leonora are discontent, but do
not feel they have a choice. This is where technology has brought them (Turkle
375). From those examples, we can easily observe that because the notions of using
certain technology have already became parts of our general social roles, people can
no longer resist the influence of it regardless of our feeling.
In the meantime, we are also forced to mentally adapt popularity and efficiency, the
core values of modern technologies. In analogy, humans evolve (in the bigger and
smaller scale) not only because of our side environment, but also the pressure under
the notion that only the fittest among us can survive. In the comparison between
phone calls and texts, texts are not any more technologically advanced than phone
calls are. However, we in general still prefer texts, and intentionally or unintentionally
make others around us use them because of the efficiency behind them. Moreover,
when the popularity of texts is accumulated, such preference becomes further
irreversible. Back to the context of expectations and social roles, we enjoy popularity
as the outcome of pluralism, the conformity of social roles and expectation. In
Rene Descartes and John Locke
Rene Descartes was a highly influential French philosopher, mathematician, scientist
and writer. Many elements of his philosophy have precedent in late Aristolelianism
and earlier philosophers like St. Augustine. Descartes was a major figure in 17th
century continental rationalism, later advocated by Baruch Spinoza and opposed by
the empiricist school of thought consisting of Locke, Berkeley, and Hume. His most
famous statement is: Cogito ergo sum, translation in English I think therefore I am.
Descartes employs a method called metaphysical doubt, sometimes also referred to as
methodological skepticism: he rejects any ideas that can be doubted, and then
reestablishes them in order to acquire a firm foundation for genuine knowledge. ...

Locke said at birth, the human mind is a sort of blank slate on which experience
writes. Locke claims that ideas are the materials of knowledge and all ideas come
from experience. The term idea stands for whatsoever is the object of the
understanding, when a man thinks. Locke thinks we are born with a bunch of
faculties to receive abilities and to process the content once we gain it. For
example, the mind can engage in three different types of action in putting simple
ideas together. The first of these kinds of action is to combine them into complex
ideas. Complex ideas are of two kinds, ideas of substances and ideas of modes.
Substances are independent existences. Beings that count as substances include God,
angels, humans, animals, plants and a variety of constructed things. Modes are
dependent existences. These include mathematical and moral ideas, and all the
conventional language of religion, politics and culture. The second action which the
mind performs is the bringing of two ideas, whether simple or complex, by one
another so as to take a view of them at once, without uniting them. This gives us our
ideas of relations. The third act of the mind is the production of our general ideas by
abstraction from particulars, leaving out the particular circumstances of time and
place, which would limit the application of an idea to a particular individual. In
addition to these abilities, there are such faculties as memory which allow for the

World War I and the Home Front Essay
America s involvement in World War I not only impacted the war front but also the
people left on the home front. When America entered World War I in 1917 the
government enforced many measures on its citizens, many of which violated
constitutional rights. The biggest measure inflicted on the American population was
censorship. The formation of the Committee on Public Information (CPI) and the
passing of the Espionage Act and Sedition Amendment stole American s freedom of
speech, created an anti German sentiment, and led to deportation during the post war
Red Scare.

Americans became afraid of and disdainful towards anything German. Affairs
associated with Germans or Germany ceased such as German bands, German
courses in schools, and renaming German associated words such as German measles
to liberty measles. Many German Americans felt loyal to America but still had ties to
Germany. With intolerance towards all things German, German Americans became
cautious and discreet in their speech and actions. Ambassador James W. Gerard
warned, but now that we are in the war there are only two sides, and the time has
come when every citizen must declare himself American or traitor!
Government censorship continued with the passing of the Espionage Act in 1917
and the Sedition Amendment in 1918. The Espionage Act and Sedition Amendment
condemned any antiwar activity or desecrating of the government, Constitution, flag,
or military. The American public could not have an opinion, unless that opinion
supported the war and government. Even Wilson stated, Woe be to the man or group
of men that seeks to stand in our way. Government censorship and unpatriotic acts ,
as deemed by the Espionage Act and Sedition Amendment, gave birth to a suspicious
nation.

The Melting Point And Boiling Point
Results The results show that the highest melting point was 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid
and the lowest melting point was Sulfosalicylic Acid. The highest boiling point was
Octanol and lowest boiling point was Methanol. When it came to the percent error the
highest percent error calculated was pentanol and the lowest percent error was
Propanol.
Discussion
During this lab the melting point ranges and boiling points were recorded from
several substances. Based upon the structures of these various samples certain
trends were expected to be followed. For example, with the melting points of pure
substances are usually higher than the melting points of impure substances. In this
lab the melting point of Benzoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, 4
Hydroxybenzoic Acid, and Sulfosalicylic Acid were taken. If we apply the concept
of pure substances having higher boiling points, it was expected for substances like
3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid and 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid to have higher melting points
and for substances like Benzoic Acid and Salicylic Acid to have lower melting
points. As for Sulfosalicylic Acid, its melting point was the lowest so it was assumed
that the substance was the most impure. It was proven that the fewer impurities call
for higher melting points. This is due to the crystalline lattices structure of repeating
ions or molecules. This lattice is held together by intermolecular forces that create a
strong, stable structure. The solid must be heated to a certain
The Importance of Child Bond to His Mother
The primal importance of a child s bond to his mother has always been recognized as
a topic that has fascinated people for hundreds of years. Among psychologists and
sociologists, there is much debate about exactly how important this attachment is and
why.
At the turn of the century, the treatment of new born babies was regarded as having
little significance for later life, because babies were thought to be immune to
influence. Such idea was attacked by Sigmund Freud. He believed the relationship a
child has with his mother was a prototype on which all future relationships were
based.
Freud s theory held that the child becomes attached to his mother because she is the
source of food; hence she gratifies his most basic needs. Slightly ... Show more

This second phase of attachment is more widely accepted than the first, and has far
greater long term significance (Bee, 1995). However, the main concern is what
happens if the child does not form a primary parental attachment. The most obvious
case is of children who form no such attachment at all.
Harlow (1962) having studied the attachment behavior in rhesus monkeys followed
this up with a study of the consequences of having no attachment at all. He raised
monkeys in isolation for periods of time, and found that those who had no contact
with their mothers, nor any peers during the first year of their lives were severely
disturbed by the experience. When brought out of isolation, these monkeys did not
participate in the active play, which is characteristic of normal monkeys, instead they
huddled and withdrew. Once they turned into matured monkeys, they also proved to
be incapable of mating, and those that were artificially inseminated were incompetent
parents. Interestingly, monkeys who had not experienced being loved by a mother
showed no love for their children, and even abused them horrifically.
To establish whether or not a similar phenomenon occurs in human development,
Goldfarb (1955) studied children who were brought up in orphanages with little or no
human contact for the first 3 years of their lives, and he compared them to children

Flahtahl s Propaganda Triumph Of The Will ( 1938 )
Since the advent of documentary film with Robert Flaherty s Nanook of the North
(1922), those with power have sought to use it as a tool in their arsenal to reach
people. Advances in communications technology in the early twentieth century
allowed it to be used as a one way message delivery system to the masses, however
the ways in which this has been implemented have varied hugely based on context
and political viewpoint. Through consideration of Leni Riefenstahl s propaganda
Triumph of the Will (1935), and Lorentz s advocacy documentary The River (1938)
this essay will analyse the concepts of persuasion, education and propaganda in
documentary film, discussing the similarities and differences between these areas. It
is worth first briefly defining the ideas that this essay will cover, education is at its
purest form the provision of information and systematic instruction while persuasion
is the attempt to induce change through reasoning. Propaganda, conversely, is non
objective/biased information used to promote a point of view. Although on paper the
distinctions seem clear, in practical use it quickly becomes apparent how much these
lines can blur. If persuasion is a technique that attempts to change viewpoints, how far
does it really sit from this idea of propaganda? Both films that will be discussed were
produced in the nineteen thirties, a turbulent political landscape where the great
depression and high unemployment rates in Europe had put democratic capitalism

methods of capturing reality. Many of the images projected on the screen evoked
such a visceral reaction that the emotions of the characters seemed to live vicariously

character development and excellent cinematography. A seemingly quaint story about

Because the movie was so simple and directed towards character development and
not plot development it needed to create some very realistic emotions, and it did. It
explained in pictures how terrible and gruesome it is to kill a person and how intense
and erotic it is to be in love. The movie was no holds barred in the most fundamental
sense. While the cinematographer was not challenged with extensive special
effects he/she did a tremendous job of shooting and editing the movies romantic
scenes as well as the all important violent scenes. One scene that stuck out is when
one of the characters shoots another in the face and you see his blood and brains
spray out the back of his skull. While this has been done in other movies I have
never seen it done so convincingly. It was these kinds of small things the movie
relied on to bring forth emotion and it was the cinematographer who came through
to make this movie worth seeing. Overall I am not a movie buff; in fact the last
movie I saw in theatres was The Italian Job , yet recommending this movie to anyone
is a no brainier. People love to see movies for a variety of reasons, but one reason I
love movies is because they create a dramatic portrayal of reality, and I have not seen

offering compensatory powers to the Erinyes, thus creating an illusion of satisfaction
for all amidst a reality of compromise.
Athena first addresses Apollo s argument of the superiority of paternity, but she
allows compromise by never fully admitting that Clytemnestra s murder was morally
justified. Initially, Athena announces, I approve the male in all things...... Show more

Although Orestes departs without a judgment of justice, the Erinyes nonetheless
cry out, I am bereft of honor, unhappy one! (Eumenides 780). On the surface, it
appears that Athena s judgment, by granting greater importance to paternity and
the male gender roles of Apollo and Orestes, has compromised the honor of the
female Erinyes, who were acting on behalf of the significance of Clytemnestra s
maternity. Athena replies by saying, In all justice I promise you shall have a seat
and a cavern in this righteous land, (Eumenides 804 805). Here, Athena offers the
Erinyes justice, which she denied Orestes. This offer convinces the Erinyes to
change their ancient ways to become part of the newer Olympian order by serving
as protecting goddesses of Athens. This agreement parallels one of the main
themes of the Oresteia: just as justice progresses from a system of blood guilt to a
more civilized trial system, so the Erinyes progress from the old generation of earth
gods to become a part of the new Olympian order.
Athena herself participates in the judgement not as an unbiased arbiter of justice, but
as a participant in the conflict who compromises and gains advantage from the
consequences of her judgment just as Apollo, Orestes, and the Erinyes did. Athena
judges with the interest of Athens, her city, in mind. When her judgment releases
Orestes, he promises that if they [his descendants] always honor this city of Pallas

Gossip Girl, And Post-Feminism In The TV Show Gossip
Girl
Post feminism
Post feminism can be best described as, an expression of the belief that feminist
thought is now (at best) divisive and mean spirited, and in any case, no longer
necessary because the main aims of feminism have been achieved: men, and women
are now social equals (O brien Szeman 395). Post feminism is portrayed in the show
Gossip Girl. In the show, post feminism is something that is shown throughout the
entire series; specifically it is shown by how the female characters are constantly
being objectified. The show Gossip Girl shows that being attractive is the only form
of identity that the female characters have, and without their looks the characters
would be nothing. The female characters in the show constantly have to work hard to
prove themselves as women and have to work even harder to gain respect from the
men around them. They are often shown as weak and fragile in the shown and are
also easily manipulated by their male partners. In addition the strong connection
between Gossip Girl and post feminism is why these two have been chosen to be
combined. Furthermore, by limiting what can be seen as what their identity truly is,
post feminism is shown throughout this show.
Gossip Girl is a popular drama TV show that has been around for a while now.
Gossip Girl has 6 seasons. The show started in 2007 and follows a privileged teenage
cast that live in the Upper East Side in New York City. The cast is made up of

The Chinese Culture
1.0Introduction
The term culture has many meanings depending on the context in which it is
placed. Culture could mean the way that people have been used to a set system of
activities until it becomes a part of their inheritable knowledge, which they can pass
to the next generations. Customs and beliefs can also form the culture of people
who live in a common geographical location or the era in which they are living. In
the corporate world, for example, in an organization, the term culture can refer to as
the team spirit of the employees of that organization. It can also be defined as the set
objectives that the staff of an organization is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are many carvings in the Chinese museums, which were done centuries ago.
The carvings showed things like; how the Chinese are people who nurture creativity,
and this has explained the reason for their creativity even in this technological world.
Another art invented by the Chinese was the martial arts. The Chinese are well
known for practicing Kung Fu, and it has become a well known art in the
entertainment industry. Kung Fu was invented by copying the attacking techniques
of animals, and the Chinese has used it as an act of self defense to the extent that
there are Kung Fu classes that are taught for a fee.
Up until today, the Chinese still embrace their culture, and little westernization has
penetrated into the Chinese culture.
4.0Religion
In China, there have been strict laws governing religion, and some of the religions
have been declared illegal. Some of the commonly practiced religions are
Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, and Buddhism. Apart from the ones mentioned,
there are also traditional religions such as Confucianism. Despite the religious
restrictions, the Chinese are believers in supernatural beings and they conserve their
traditional religion. At various times of the year, the Chinese go for pilgrimages to
honor their deities and their children are taught how to worship from when they are
in kindergarten.

The Construction Of A Multimillion Dollar Chapel And...
I thought very carefully about what religion I would pick for the final project. What
eventually motivated me to choose the Church of Scientology is the construction of a
multimillion dollar chapel and community center on E. 125th St, which is very close
to my community. This is a strategic attempt to expand the Church of Scientologys
base from more affluent areas to urban areas with younger people.
Whenever I come home from Marist I have to take the Bx15 bus at 125th street to
get across the river to the Bronx. My commute takes me right passed the new Church

every time my bus drove past it I wondered what was the purpose of the Church of

Initially Dianetics developed as a self help system, subsequently Hubbard
established his ideas into a wide ranging set of principles and rituals as part of a
new religious movement that he called Scientology. By August 1950, Hubbard s
book had sold 55,000 copies, was selling at the rate of 4,000 a week and was being
translated into French, German and Japanese.
An important segment of Dianetics is auditing which is defined as, the application
of Dianetics or Scientology processes and procedures to someone by a trained

process is accomplished, the process is concluded and another can then be used. By
doing this, the pc are said to be able to free themselves from unwanted barriers that

The Hitchhiker Plot Analysis
The Hitchhiker plot In most ghost stories, there suspenseful, scary, and thrilling, and
which are all elements that most people find enjoyable. In Lucille Fletcher s the
Hitchhiker, a man had a sudden urge to go on a journey, but this wasn t your average
journey. On the other hand, Ronald Adams repeatedly sees this perplexing man on
every road he went on. After continuously seeing this man it drives him insane. She
uses exposition, climax, and resolution as the plotelements, they play a big role with
each other to make this play effective. Fletchers uses exposition to create this
suspenseful play that everyone would like. To begin with Fletchers development of
the suspense is the exposition. The hitchhiker stated I left Brooklyn to drive to

The Goal By Eliyahu M. Veldt
The Goal, a fictional novel written by Eliyahu M. Goldratt, introduces the reader to a
plant manager of a production plant within the UniCo Manufacturing group, Alex
Rogo, who is experiencing consistent problems in meeting targeted production levels.
Faced with an ultimatum, ta turn his plant profitable in three months, Rogo seeks
guidance from a distant acquaintance of his, Jonah, an old physics professor. This
consultancy introduces concepts that will constitute cornerstones of Rogo s strategy
to turn the plant around. These concepts are also applied successfully by Rogo in the
alternative story line of his marital life. When reaching out to Jonah, Rogo is to some
extent perplexed of why the plant is not performing as expected, he is instructed to
define the true goal of the firm. After contemplation, Rogo managed, with help of one
of his accountants, to expand the ultimate goal to make money into essentially three
categories: to increase net profit, while simultaneously increasing return of
investment, while simultaneously increasing cash flow . The measures, as outlined
by Jonah, of this overarching goal were; Throughput, Inventory and Operational
Expense. Throughput refers to the rate at which the system generates cash from sales,
Inventory is defined as the total money invested in purchasing things intended to sell,
whereas Operational Expense is the cost associated with turning inventory into
throughput. These measurements as defined in the Goal differ in

The Success Of An English Language Learner
Success in EWRT 1A From almost 8000 miles away landing here, I not only packed
up my luggage full of clothes and shoes, but also had my determination to gain a
band new and successful life here in the United States. I choose here for studying and
seizing more opportunity for self accomplishment. Undoubtedly, China, where I come
from, owns the very different system of education and language. Like many of the
Chinese students studying abroad, I have gone through the roughest part of that
pattern and have been taken a glance of the outside world. I chose to escape from
where I got used to and started my journey here with my dream of a better and even
successful life. It is obvious that language would be the first major problems I need
to face directly. As an English language learner here in the United States, probably
I am not at the same level as those who are native speakers here. Thus, there will be
more problems for me to overcome it and to success. Mixed up with my confidence
and faith to achieving, along with my experiences and skills gained in learning
language from both China and here, I believe I can achieve the goal of success in
EWRT 1A. My family background prepared me to be successful in English 1A.

Western Culture And Its Influence On Modern Culture
Institutions, or groups or societies formed from similar interests and ideas, have
become a commonality in modern society. Politics, acadamia, even specialized
groups to the minutia of specific, singular beliefs or ideas dominate today s American
society and these examples barely begin to scratch the surface of institution s
influence on America. This is not to say that the prevalence of these institutions is
not specific to the United States culture, but present in all cultures labeled as
inherently western. The concept of institution is an idea constructed by humans, and
as a human construct, the idea must have implemented itself successfully into human
culture to be present today. Western culture(today primarily North America and...

As a religion still practiced today, the text s influence on people is clear. An
institution requires a unifying factor between those involved. The Torah explicitly
details the Jewish ideology and beliefs something needed in any successful
institution. After the creation of this text, the unifying concepts that can result from
an idea are present. Without this unification, this text s influence and practice
would not occur today. What can be inferred from this text is the actual creation of
institutions that support the practice or action of a single group or people. This
constructed idea of an institution is crucial in the development of western society
because it allows for positions of power to arise from said belief, and these
positions of power eventually become the most influential. The most important text
in the development of Western Society, The Bible, is like previous examples. The
development from myth (or hereafter religion), to organized grouping, to a mode of
power can be summed up in the influence of The Bible. Somewhere throughout
history, an individual or group realized the influence of a religion on a group of
people. In getting a group to believe something as explicit and detailed as this text is,
having these followers support an agenda that, on the surface parallels their beliefs,
but in reality is a power ploy by those in high positions, creates an environment that
breeds influence and

Looking for a tropical location to take my family, we stumbled upon a gem of a

Minimum Degree Of Negligence
Probably not. Because the standard of care employed by the relevant statute is a
minimum degree of care, the CWS has a burden of proving that Ms. Ryan failed to
exercise more than ordinary care, and that her act was grossly negligent. The degree
of negligence necessary to find an act to be grossly negligent is generally measured
by the nature of the act that is willful and wanton. Ms. Ryan s conduct undoubtedly
demonstrates her inattentiveness and a certain degree of negligencebecause she left
her very young children unsupervised in her apartment where they are only 8 and 4
years of age respectively. However, more likely than not, the court will hold that
her neglectful act does not give rise to the extent of gross negligence because Ms.
Ryan depended on the babysitter to show up very shortly based on the fact that she
was almost always punctual. Additionally, young children often cry and it is
common for a 4 year old to wet her pants regardless of the fact that a parent pays the
closest attention possible to the child. Ms. Ryan will have to concede that she was
careless to leave the stew simmering on the stove when she left the apartment, yet,
the court will likely find that this was not done willfully and wantonly as she
intended to prepare the dinner for her children to ensure that they were going to be

Swing Music And The Popularity Of Swing Music
Swing band arrangements were in large part composed, often of simple, repeated
material, or riffs, that alternated between contrapuntal lines and intense unison
rhythms. Improvisation also had a featured role, and soloists would play while the
rest of the band, aside from the rhythm section, dropped out or played arranged
background lines.
POPULARITY OF SWING MUSIC
One explanation for swing music s popularity is that its driving intensity and
abandon represented pleasure and freedom in a time when the country was steeped
in hard times. The Great Depression caused Americans to suffer, and dancing to
swing music was a way for people to forget their worries. Swing music featured a
section of three or four trumpeters, three or four trombonist, five saxophonists who
often doubled on clarinets, a piano, a bassist instead of a tuba player, a guitarist, and
a drummer.
During the 1930s, swing came to symbolize joy and ease, the weight of which was
reflected in Duke Ellington s piece, It Don t Mean a Thing (If It Ain t Got That
Swing).

Analysis Of Are You Somebody
The ending of Are You Somebody has several differences as well as similarities with
the endings of the other Irish works we have read. In the final scene of Are You
Somebody, O Faolain has conflicting feelings about her past and future and poses
many questions to herself. She toggles between regret and resignation, preventing the
memoir from having an official resolution, whereas the other works have more of a
definite conclusion. Another major differenceis that O Faolain appears to beg for the
readers pity more in the final scenes than the other authors. However, the other works
endings also have numerous elements in common with Are You Somebody. Similar
to An Only Child and The Poor Mouth, the stories end with the characters looking
outward toward the future. However, O Faolain reflects on the pastin the ending of
Are You Somebody, which McGahern also does in All Will Be Well. Overall,
despite their differences, the memoirs endings are more alike than they are
different. O Faolain s memoir is set apart from the other works by several aspects
of its ending. In contrast to the definitive nature of the endings of the other books,
the final chapter of Are You Somebody leaves readers hanging. The memoir
concludes as she spends a Christmas day without family, only being surrounded by
her dog. She reflects on her past and poses questions to herself regarding choices she
could have made in the past. She asks, What happened? (177), and How can you

In the recent past, China s economy has grown at a high rate attracting the attention
of the foreign investors. Its gross domestic product has also been high, with the
year 2014 recording the highest figure of over ten percent of the world s economy.
The overall structure of its economy has also improved; the unemployment rates
have gone down with prices rising at a moderate rate. It is always clear that with a
high rate of unemployment within a country, the income levels also tend to be low
affecting the living standards of the people, which in turn results to lower
productivity levels in the country. Regardless of maintaining a positive balance of
payments, the country s economy also faces some challenges. China s economy is
facing economic challenge regarding possibilities of deflationary risks (Mulroney

During the presentation there were examples provided from the textbook to allow
the trainees to capture what was being presented and said. This allowed for them
to see what was being taught. It was also helpful that there were examples provided
during the presentation to allow for a real life experiences in the workforce,
making everything more relatable to each individual in its own unique way. There
were also instances where trainees were asked questions and to engage them
throughout the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think,
especially when there were pop quizzes throughout. Trainees were also able to ask
questions during the entire presentation, allowing for people to have their answers
answered at any point. In order for this to succeed we had to prepare beforehand so
that the questions would be answered as effectively and as clearly as they could.
Having handouts that had the slides with room to write notes on the side allowed the
audience to make notes and to write ideas. We also provide quizzes that were
interactive throughout the presentation on the slides. This allowed us to ask the

INTRODUCTION: The term career planning is frequently used in relation young
boys and girls studying at the college level. College students are expected to consider
their qualities (physical and mental), psychological make up, likes and dislikes,
inclinations, etc. and decide what they want to be in their life. In other words, they

P3 FAQ Sheet on: The Potential barriers to effective communication.
Introduction: There are several barriers that affect effective communication and
correcting all of them will improve the overall communication received by the
recipient. Moreover, the barrier of communication is when your message gets
distorted. The effective communication involves overcoming and conveying a clear
and concise message.
Background Noise: Furthermore, Background noise is has a foremost impact on the
potential barriers of effective communication. Firstly, verbal communication with a
loud background noise can be unclear to the recipient if the noises in the
communication is too loud. For example, if Whatsapp messenger sent a verification
call to a user s phone, and the background noise was too loud the n the user would not
be able to understand the verification code and as a result would struggle to verify
their Whatsapp account. Furthermore, unclear communication that involves
background noises may lead to conflict in the working environment as it is considered
to be detrimental. Therefore, this is why background noises are barriers to effective
communication.

Jack The Ripper Argumentative Essay
In my opinion, the most suspicious suspect would be Druitt. The reason why I
believe it was Druitt is because there is no way that many things could be
coincidental . He unexpectedly dismissed after being a school teacher for years, at
the exact same time it began with the Ripper. For reasons that have never been
solved, a month later his body was found floating in the Thames at Chiswick. It was
said it had been in the river for a while. Coincidental is overrated; perhaps his
conscious got the best of him?...
The law enforcement stated that Jack the Ripper was either a physician or had
medical training. They were so sure of this conclusion due to the fact he had
removed internal organs from some of his victims. Dr. Bond stated after noting that
the gaping wounds by the Ripper couldn t had been taught by training of a medical
expert or even the technical knowledge of a butcher or horse slaughterer.
In the opinion of Dr. Bond, the murderer must have studied under the subject of
homicidal and erotic mania, or had a uncontrollable sex desire, but nobody really

ANALYSIS 1.Can a paralegal conduct interview for the objective of providing

The Focal Length of Spherical Mirrors
THE FOCAL LENGTH OF SPHERICAL MIRRORS
Section 1: The Focal length of a concave mirror

Section 1: To determine the focal length of a Concave Mirror by locating the centre
of curvature.
ABSTRACT:
In this paper we want to discuss the focal point of a concave mirror by locating the
centre of curvature. The focal point is a point in space at which light incident towards
the mirror and travelling parallel to the principal axis will meet after reflection. The
diagram at the right depicts this principle. In fact, if some light from the sun were
collected by a concave mirror, then it would converge at the focal ... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the diagram I have drawn I ve had to exaggerate the shape of the mirror a bit to
be able to use it in some of the diagrams later on, but you should be able to get the
basic idea. Like a regular circle, the distance from the centre to the surface of the
mirror is the radius.
Focus or Focal Point (F)
If an object was infinitely far away from the mirror, the light from it would
converge on this one point. In the diagrams we are doing we will mostly be looking
at how some light rays pass through (or appear to pass through) this focal point. The
focal point is exactly in between the mirror and the centre. Since the distance between
the centre and the mirror is the radius, the distance from the focal point to the mirror
is half of the radius.
Principle Axis
The blue line is the principle axis, a line that we will use as a reference point in our
diagrams. It passes through the centre and is perpendicular to the surface of the
mirror. (White, 1999)
There are two main rules we need to use to figure out where the image of the object
will appear. All of the rules involve what a ray will do when leaves the object.
Rule #1: Any ray through the focal point will reflect parallel to the principle axis
(Figure 2).
Light reflects off objects at all sorts of angles, and if it will help us to find where an
image is, we might as well assume one ray goes right through the focus.
Popularity Of Chain Supermarkets Are Monopolizing The
Market
1.How would you describe your knowledge of proliferation of chain supermarkets?
The rate of proliferation of chain supermarkets is very fast and the number of
branches increased rapidly.
2.Do you think chain supermarkets are monopolizing the market? If so, in what ways?
Chain supermarkets are absolutely monopolizing the market. Chain supermarkets
own nearly all of the market and many small sized grocery stores have to wind up
their business as the turnover is insufficient for the expenditure. Other small sized
enterprises like fruit stores also suffer hard in the sluggish competition with chain
supermarkets and the income is reduced. A barrier is formed for others to enter the
retail industry and the space for small sized enterprises to survive in the market is
very small.
3What do you think are the differences of a grocery stall and a chain supermarket? ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The development capacity of the chain supermarkets is obviously higher. The
turnover rate of a small sized enterprises, like my grocery shop is far lower than that
of chain supermarkets. In terms of the business mode, chain supermarkets can provide
more discounts for the consumers but due to the limited capital, grocery shops cannot
follow suit. Thus, most consumers would tends to shop in a chain supermarkets
instead of grocery shops, especially during the discount period. Although both the
staff of the grocery stores and the staff of the chain supermarkets would chat with the
customers, I think the hospitality and human touch in small sized enterprises is still
higher. Established customers like to purchase in my grocery stall and chat with me.
They have been supporting my business for a long
Delegating Responsibility Essay
Learning Team Skills Exercise
This week, the Learning Team read and discussed the Skills Exercise at the end of
Chapter 10 in the text. This exercise deals with learning how to delegate, or assign
authority, to another person in order to carry out specific duties. In other words,
delegation allows employees to make decisions. This is a summary of the points we
covered:
The first behavior discussed deals with clarifying the assignment. The situation in the
scenario is far too often a common occurrence in the daily functions of work. Ricky
Lee did the right thing by getting approval from his boss Anne Zumwait before
passing the assignment to Bill Harmon. Ricky now understands that reassigning the
project to Bill means that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, Rick the manager, has previous responsibilities he has to achieve and
has to make a decision on how to get his next task from his boss completed the best
way possible. He must relay particular information from his boss to Bill to assure
this task meets Anne s projects credentials. As stated above there are pro s to this
procedure but also a very important con. If the information that Rick supplies Bill
with is inaccurate or not fully described the whole project can go awry.
Obviously the project has been clarified and specified to Rick. All the requirements
have been set and also allow him to participate, another delegating technique, in the
decision to incorporate other qualified employees, which is Rick, to accomplish the
project s achievements. If he does not inform Rick appropriately with all the
different parameters Anne has described this could fall back on Rick. Therefore he
must discuss all the requirements to his subordinate precisely. As a precaution he
also tells Rick what has been delegated to him so he knows the importance of the
task at hand. Anne has established a feedback channel with Rick which allowed him
to acquire Bill to complete the project successfully. It is Rick s job to follow the same
delegating techniques with Bill so there is an understanding. This includes an
agreement with Bill on certain requisites which
The Matrix, Directed By The Wachowski Brothers
The 1999 film The Matrix , directed by the Wachowski Brothers, tells the story of a
computer generated world in which humans are used as batteries to power the
matrix systems. The film focuses on a small team of humans who are fighting
against the matrix. There are several themes in this film and many of which are
suggested through the material body . The material body is made up of four key
elements cinematography, mise en scГЁne, editing and soundtrack. These elements
are crucial to the audience s understanding of the narrative and the director s
intended meaning. The Two pills scene is a good example of how the material body
can be used to analyse the presentation of characters and the narrative.
Mise en scГЁne refers to the arrangement and setting up of the stage or set in a
movie or play. This consists of setting/dГ©cor, costume, props, actors and lighting
(Bordwell Thompson, 2008, p.112). In the two pills scene, the setting appears to
be a sitting room in an old, abandoned house. The dГ©cor that now looks dull and
drab gives the illusion that it was once a very grand room. There are wooden,
period furnishings and the walls appear to be made up of wooden panels. The clip
takes place in front of an old, marble like fireplace. The dГ©cor alludes that the
setting has been neglected and perhaps forgotten about.
The costumes worn by Morpheus and Neo are quite contrasting to one another.
Morpheus wears a long, leather trench coat. His whole outfit is black and he
The Year-Round School Debate
A common debate among educators and school board members is the idea of year
round schooling. While many think this is best for students education, there are
factors that could make it so it doesn t affect their education or it makes matters
worse. Most students are great full for their summer break. They schedule family
vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to no
conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively
affect students. There are solutions other than making schoolgo all year round.
A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks
after a set amount of dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of
attending school a year. One idea that a school using year round school might use
is the 60 20 plan. This means that students attend school for 60 days and get 20 days
off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30 plans. (Vandewater)... Show more

Also, the workload required of the teachers will go up. In addition, the students will
be busy with school work when they are usually on summer break. This is when
most students will get jobs so that school doesn t interfere. An employer will not
want an employee that has to leave every week or so ( The Year Round School
Debate ).
On the opposing side, researchers say that the long three months in the summer that
students are not attending school is when they lose the most information. Another
benefit to switching to year round schooling is that students will not get bored over
the summer. They will have shorter breaks. It is also said that hiring a tutor over the
summer is not as good as some may think (Kalil). According to another study, teachers
and students don t have to spend as much time reviewing material that the students
learned the previous year. Also some schools that have switched to year round, got
extra funds
Ethnocentrism In The Military
When I see the word ethnocentrism before I knew what it actually meant. I always
thought of it as term used only with African Americans people but used in some
sort of played down way not to offend or be looked at as racist. There has been
times when I hear someone say something about an African American person hair
and say things like That is ethnic hair to avoid saying it is nappy or dreaded. I would
just ignore it and think in my mindlike wow they are trying hard not seem racist. It
was for me going to the Army s Equal Opportunity Leaders Course was then I was
finally educated on terms such as discriminationand ethnocentrism. It showed me that
I had to fix my way of thinking even though I never looked at anyone s race as

1920s Women s Rights
Women s Rights in the Workplace in the 1920 s The 1920 s led to many
advancements for women in the workforce, however, their rights were still
extremely limited. During this time is was believed that women should stay out of
the workforce, that was just for the men. According to beliefs of that time women
should be full time housewives . Women had just received the right to vote and
some women had given up on changing the way the world perceived women. This,
however, was untrue for some women, the 1920 s sparked the fight for equal rights
in the workplace. Women began to see themselves in a different light they changed
their appearance, their self concept, and began to fight for equality. It was a long
fight, the 1920 s was just the start.Women were restricted from working in many
places, had unequal pay compared to men, and had many struggles with maternity
leave and childcare. Women s job opportunities were very limited during the 1920
s, laws were set that prohibited them from working in certain jobs and conditions.
Common jobs that women had were teachers, social workers, nurses and librarians.
During the rise of the corporate office, new jobs opened up for women. Some of
these jobs included; typists, filing clerks, stenographers, and some secretarial
jobs.(Bryan 2). Over half of the women in the workforce working outside of the
reserves were in domestic service and the clothing, food,... Show more content on

their personal lives (Walden 12). The gains made by women in the 1920 s sparked
their want for more equality. Women began to pressure Congress to pass laws that
created more employment opportunities for women. Feminist leaders began to create
groups to fight sexual discrimination. One of these groups was the National
Organization for Women (NOW) which was founded in 1966 (Walden
Electronic Technology For Curriculum Observation
Electronic Technology for Curriculum Observation Documentation Michelle
Valladares MGMT 7003 December 4, 2014 Many childcare centres in North
America have introduced technology as a natural element of the classroom. Young
learners have become part of the iGeneration in which the use of technology comes
to be a natural way of learning, interacting with others and making sense of the
world (Pellerin, 2012). In regards to documentation and assessment, there have been
different digital tools that are creating a new way of evaluating and observing how
children learn. According to research by Pellerin (2012), assessment for the 21st
century learning and teaching requires a shift from assessment of learning toward
assessment strategies for learning. In order for teachers to understand assessment
strategies for learning they must see documentation under a new digital perspective.
Documentation now includes gathering of tangible evidence from a variety of
means such as learning stories, photographs, video and audio recordings of the
students learning process (ELECT, 2007). Effective documentation will not only
gather information but also tell a story and purpose of an event, experience, or
development. In a digital era, technology tools and applications like Ipads and Ipods
are creating a learning experience for children, teachers and families unlike any other
tools in the past. In the 21 century, almost every educator and adult in North America
has a
The Protestant Reformers And The Catholic Church
Introduction
Although the Protestant Reformers (i.e., Luther, and Zwingli) challenged the Roman
Catholic Church to return to Scripture as the primary source of Christian theology,
members of other groups believed Luther and Zwingli failed to include the New
Testament teachings on the difference between the church and society. As a result, a
group of Protestant radicals led by Georg Blaurock and Conrad Grebel founded a new
congregation that became known as the Anabaptist. The split occurred when the
radicals could not convince Zwingli to agree with their views on the connection
between the civic community and the religious community. Consequently, the
Anabaptist and later the Mennonites expanded on the Protestant Reformation. In ...

the Catholic Church the following decrees were issued. 1) The Catholic Church is

Essay On All That Glitters Is Not Gold.pdf

  • 1. Essay On All That Glitters Is Not Gold Crafting an essay on the topic "All That Glitters Is Not Gold" presents a unique set of challenges. At first glance, the phrase may seem simple and straightforward, but delving deeper into its layers reveals a complex exploration of human perception, deception, and the inherent nature of appearances. The task is not merely to scratch the surface but to unearth the profound meanings embedded in this proverb. One of the initial challenges lies in deciphering the metaphorical richness of the saying. It demands a nuanced understanding of the human psyche and the often misleading allure of external appearances. As a writer, you need to navigate through the intricacies of language to convey the depth of this age-old wisdom effectively. The essay must go beyond the surface interpretation and explore various facets of life where the glittering facade might overshadow the true essence. Furthermore, structuring the essay poses its own set of difficulties. Balancing the introduction to capture the reader's attention, developing a coherent body that explores different dimensions of the proverb, and crafting a conclusion that leaves a lasting impact require careful consideration. The challenge is to seamlessly weave together anecdotes, examples, and analysis to present a comprehensive view while maintaining the essay's overall coherence. Addressing potential counterarguments adds another layer of complexity. While advocating for the idea that appearances can be deceiving, acknowledging exceptions or instances where superficial glitter aligns with genuine value adds credibility to the essay. Striking the right balance between presenting a compelling argument and acknowledging the nuances of the topic is a delicate task. Researching diverse examples from literature, history, and contemporary events to bolster your arguments requires time and effort. The challenge is not only to find relevant examples but also to analyze and present them in a way that aligns with the overarching theme of the essay. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic "All That Glitters Is Not Gold" demands a skillful combination of linguistic prowess, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of human nature. It involves navigating through the complexities of the proverb, structuring the essay effectively, addressing counterarguments, and researching diverse examples. Only with careful consideration of these aspects can a writer successfully convey the profound message encapsulated in this timeless saying. As you start making business in China, having an understanding of Chinese business etiquette is important to your success. Knowing and practicing common customs will also help you to avoid embarrassment, and focus on the matters at hand on critical occasions. Appearance One of the most visible changes to the human landscape of China over the past few decades has been the change in dress code. One of the most important things about Chinese culture is the gift. Not only is the choice of gift important in Chinese culture, but how much you spend on it, how you wrap it, and how you present it are equally important. Dining Dining is used to probe positions without any formal commitment. Business is generally not discussed during meals. Meals are a vehicle for indirect business references. Seating is one of the most important parts of the dinner. The most senior person will sit furthest from the entrance and facing the door. The guest of honor sits to the most senior person s right. The person paying the bill sits opposite the guest of honor and closest to the door. Always arrive exactly on time for a banquet. Never arrive early for dinner. This implies that you are hungry and that you are here only for the food. At the end of the dinner, do not forget to leave some food on your plate during each course of a meal to honor the generosity of your host. It is bad manners for a Chinese host not to keep refilling guests plates or teacups. Also, if you are the guest of honor at a dinner, leave shortly after the meal is finished, as no one will leave before the guest of honor. Conclusion Doing research on the market is important in China, but personal relationships are equally essential to business success here. It is crucial to establish and maintain good

Hydrofracking Evaluation of Talisman Energy s Hydraulic Fracturing Practises in Hudson Hope ABSTRACT To meet the demand of oil in today s oil dependent society, Talisman Energy is looking to exploit a mine located in Hudson Hope, British Colombia. The most suitable extraction process is hydraulic fracturing, which currently presents several environmental concerns to the residents located near the mine, and a representation of the general public who believe that hydraulic fracturing is not an ethical method of extraction. Talisman Energy has recently been granted a long term contract to utilize fresh water from BC Hydro s Williston Reservoir. The company is an active member of the United Nations Global Compact, and is included in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index. In July 2011, Talisman Energy was granted permission to build a fresh water withdrawal pipe link to tap BC Hydro s Williston Reservoir for its fracking operations in the Montney Deep Shale Formation. This was granted in the form of a long term water licence that would allow for the necessary constant fresh water source for its fracking operations located near the small town of Hudson Hope. Talisman s initial proposal includes its proposed water withdrawal figures, totalling 484 million gallons of fresh water3. This amount of water is comparable to the amount of water that could be stored in about 3, 47 story high rises. It is no surprise that the residents of Hudson Hope have expressed concern in Talismans permanent water licence. In addition, a drought in July 2010 leaves the Williston Reservoir levels lower than usual. Residents have also expressed concern over the additives that are added to the fracking fluid. Due to the intense crack propagation induced by fracking, these additives are subject to enter the ground water supply, and in the past have been present in drinking water. Hydraulic fracturing poses several environmental concerns that question its ethical

More so she worried that by using this checklist mental health professionals from Western Countries would be ineffective or even do more harm unless they understood that Sri Lankans have culturally distinct reactions to traumatic events as well as culturally specific modes of healing. She believed that unless the local idioms of distress were understood appropriate interventions could not be formulated. (Watters,
  • 5. The Relationship Between Richard II and The Myrroure for... The Relationship Between Richard II and The Myrroure for Magistrates The relationship between Richard II and The Myrroure for Magistrates is considered here predominantly in the context of the differences between the two texts.[1] The function of each text is discussed initially, the didactic purpose of the Myrroure contrasted with the function of Shakespeare s play as, primarily, theatrical entertainment. The conflicting accounts of certain events from Richard s reign are looked at subsequently and the manner in which they reflect the different function of the texts. Finally, consideration is given to the different way in which the Myrroure and Richard II each reflect upon the theme of kingship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His message can be contradictory, for he does see his murder as causeles (l. 116) and his opponents as traytrous (l. 114). Yet the overwhelming force of his own argument is that his reign was characterised by vices (ll. 2 34), and that he fell / to make the living wise (l.23). The strict, consistent rhyme scheme drives home the didactic message of the poem, as does the repeated use of alliteration, such as shame sueth sinne (l.18). Shakespeare s Richard is a more complex, contradictory character, reflecting the theatrical purpose of the play. Richard is shown as well as told which, particularly during the first two Acts, results in conflicting impressions of him. In Act 1 Scene 1, he appears as the regal, impartial (1.1.115) king, not born to sue, but to command (1.1.196). The following scene begins to undermine this, as God s substitute (1.2.37) is implicated by Gaunt in the death of the Duke of Gloucester. Richard s appearance in the richly formal third scene reinforces his initial, regal portrayal but subsequently, his expressed desire for Gaunt s physician... / To help him to his grave immediately (1.4.58 59) and Gaunt s own violent indictment of this unstaid youth (2.1.2) finally and fatally undermine the showing of Richard as a majestic, benevolent
  • 6. Giovanni Battista Tiepolo s The Immaculate Conception Dear John, How are you doing, work and your family? I hope very thing is going pretty good. It is my pleasure to use this opportunity to write to you and inform you on my experience about my travel trip to Madrid Spain during the Easter holidays. Actually it was a great experience of a life time, I visited so many places but the most important and interesting that I want to share with you is my visit to the MUSEO NACIONAL DEL PRADO museum in Madrid, which I get to see The Immaculate Conceptionartwork. It was created by a roman artist Tiepolo, Giambattista during 1769 1769 in RomeItaly. Which shows the Virgin Mary appears on the globe of the World and the crescent Moon, stepping on the serpent of Original Sin and crowned by the Dove of the Holy Ghost. She is surrounded by angels and by some of her customary symbols, including a spray of lilies, a palm branch, a fountain and a mirror. The artist uses this scene to show the traditional manner of representing the Virgin s Immaculate Conception, which occurred without Original Sin. Although it was expensive but I really learn a lot and had a good time, the air ticket to Madrid Spain was $1499, and I spent $1600 other expenses like local transport, food, gift and hotel, which cost 658 EUR, that $ 912 for 2 night at $456 per night. A number of countries are considered to be under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception by pontifical decree. These include Argentina, Brazil, Ireland, Korea, Nicaragua, Nigeria,
  • 7. Kindred Research Paper About a month ago, I found myself researching the history of the Mammy stereotype/caricature for a paper I had to do on the book Kindred by Octavia Butler. Twenty minutes into my research I somehow ended all the way up onto the Wikipedia page on the 1915 film, Birth of a Nation, which romanticized the Klu Klux Klan. I then discovered why Nate Parker chose the title for his own film and that the 1915 version was the very first film shown in the white house. After twenty minutes I suddenly remembered the focus of my paper and went back on topic. I remember saying to myself I could spend my life doing this . In the recent years, with the start and spread of the Black Lives Matter movement, my love for researching, basically anything, has shifted it s focus. When I was younger I used to love researching biology, happily watching Animal planet as my main informant. But, now it has grown into an inquiry for history and more specifically black history. The movement has sparked an interest into politics and social justice. After a hashtag would sadly be made to bring attention to the death of a victim of police brutality, I would find myself spending hours looking at tweets. Twitter providing me information about policies, statistics, political candidates, and differing opinions.More than I would have probably ever learned without it. Even now, it is my main source of information for the presidential election and has proven to be very reliable.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the novel, the gap in government, police, and legal authority, Was promptly filled by the Mafia who reigned supreme over the City of Joy (CoJ, 296). There was outrage when municipal dairies were housed in the slums of Anand Nagar, but nothing could be done, and, The Godfather had been on of the principal beneficiaries of this operation (CoJ,299). Kundu discusses the interactions between the Land Mafiaand citizens being displaced. Land Mafia actually refers to a collection of corrupt civil servants who illegally sell land. Despite the difference between Lapierre s Mafia and Kundu s Land Mafia, both groups have to deal with formal and informal powers. The Mafia has to deal with formal structures of power, and the Land Mafia has to crossover to more informal structures. Lapierre mostly glosses over this aspect of the Mafia s presence, and focuses more on a more micro level effects of the mafia, like the Godfather s ability to break up a mob that Kovalski encountered. Through actions such as the unionization and mentioning the Mafia s dealings, Lapierre brings a limited amount of attention to informal and formal relationships in urban development, which is what Kundu s paper focuses on. Even though Lapierre does great job of including the informal sector, he uses it more to paint an accurate picture of the environment the three main characters are in, and
  • 9. Social Darwinism And Natural Selection It is almost undeniable that the technologies cause rapid changes in human relationships, cultures, and societies. While it enormously facilitates us in nearly every aspect of our life, such changes also create consequences that we do not yet realize. Almost all of us know Darwinism and Natural Selection in the biological field, but we often overlook the similar phenomena in the social aspect. In fact, resemble to the way we adapt to our physical environment, we also adapt to our social environment in order to survive and excel in our social relationships. Such adaption is called Social Darwinism. Because technologies have significantly influenced our social environment, humans are forced to adapt not only to technologies, but also to the... Although Tara and Leonora are discontent, but do not feel they have a choice. This is where technology has brought them (Turkle 375). From those examples, we can easily observe that because the notions of using certain technology have already became parts of our general social roles, people can no longer resist the influence of it regardless of our feeling. In the meantime, we are also forced to mentally adapt popularity and efficiency, the core values of modern technologies. In analogy, humans evolve (in the bigger and smaller scale) not only because of our side environment, but also the pressure under the notion that only the fittest among us can survive. In the comparison between phone calls and texts, texts are not any more technologically advanced than phone calls are. However, we in general still prefer texts, and intentionally or unintentionally make others around us use them because of the efficiency behind them. Moreover, when the popularity of texts is accumulated, such preference becomes further irreversible. Back to the context of expectations and social roles, we enjoy popularity as the outcome of pluralism, the conformity of social roles and expectation. In
  • 10. Rene Descartes and John Locke Rene Descartes was a highly influential French philosopher, mathematician, scientist and writer. Many elements of his philosophy have precedent in late Aristolelianism and earlier philosophers like St. Augustine. Descartes was a major figure in 17th century continental rationalism, later advocated by Baruch Spinoza and opposed by the empiricist school of thought consisting of Locke, Berkeley, and Hume. His most famous statement is: Cogito ergo sum, translation in English I think therefore I am. Descartes employs a method called metaphysical doubt, sometimes also referred to as methodological skepticism: he rejects any ideas that can be doubted, and then reestablishes them in order to acquire a firm foundation for genuine knowledge. ... Locke claims that ideas are the materials of knowledge and all ideas come from experience. The term idea stands for whatsoever is the object of the understanding, when a man thinks. Locke thinks we are born with a bunch of faculties to receive abilities and to process the content once we gain it. For example, the mind can engage in three different types of action in putting simple ideas together. The first of these kinds of action is to combine them into complex ideas. Complex ideas are of two kinds, ideas of substances and ideas of modes. Substances are independent existences. Beings that count as substances include God, angels, humans, animals, plants and a variety of constructed things. Modes are dependent existences. These include mathematical and moral ideas, and all the conventional language of religion, politics and culture. The second action which the mind performs is the bringing of two ideas, whether simple or complex, by one another so as to take a view of them at once, without uniting them. This gives us our ideas of relations. The third act of the mind is the production of our general ideas by abstraction from particulars, leaving out the particular circumstances of time and place, which would limit the application of an idea to a particular individual. In addition to these abilities, there are such faculties as memory which allow for the storing of
  • 11. World War I and the Home Front Essay America s involvement in World War I not only impacted the war front but also the people left on the home front. When America entered World War I in 1917 the government enforced many measures on its citizens, many of which violated constitutional rights. The biggest measure inflicted on the American population was censorship. The formation of the Committee on Public Information (CPI) and the passing of the Espionage Act and Sedition Amendment stole American s freedom of speech, created an anti German sentiment, and led to deportation during the post war Red Scare. Many German Americans felt loyal to America but still had ties to Germany. With intolerance towards all things German, German Americans became cautious and discreet in their speech and actions. Ambassador James W. Gerard warned, but now that we are in the war there are only two sides, and the time has come when every citizen must declare himself American or traitor! The highest boiling point was Octanol and lowest boiling point was Methanol. When it came to the percent error the highest percent error calculated was pentanol and the lowest percent error was Propanol. Discussion During this lab the melting point ranges and boiling points were recorded from several substances. Based upon the structures of these various samples certain trends were expected to be followed. For example, with the melting points of pure substances are usually higher than the melting points of impure substances. In this lab the melting point of Benzoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, and Sulfosalicylic Acid were taken. If we apply the concept of pure substances having higher boiling points, it was expected for substances like 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid and 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid to have higher melting points and for substances like Benzoic Acid and Salicylic Acid to have lower melting points. As for Sulfosalicylic Acid, its melting point was the lowest so it was assumed that the substance was the most impure. It was proven that the fewer impurities call for higher melting points. This is due to the crystalline lattices structure of repeating ions or molecules. This lattice is held together by intermolecular forces that create a strong, stable structure. The solid must be heated to a certain
  • 16. The Importance of Child Bond to His Mother The primal importance of a child s bond to his mother has always been recognized as a topic that has fascinated people for hundreds of years. Among psychologists and sociologists, there is much debate about exactly how important this attachment is and why. At the turn of the century, the treatment of new born babies was regarded as having little significance for later life, because babies were thought to be immune to influence. Such idea was attacked by Sigmund Freud. He believed the relationship a child has with his mother was a prototype on which all future relationships were based. Freud s theory held that the child becomes attached to his mother because she is the source of food; hence she gratifies his most basic needs. Slightly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This second phase of attachment is more widely accepted than the first, and has far greater long term significance (Bee, 1995). However, the main concern is what happens if the child does not form a primary parental attachment. The most obvious case is of children who form no such attachment at all. Harlow (1962) having studied the attachment behavior in rhesus monkeys followed this up with a study of the consequences of having no attachment at all. He raised monkeys in isolation for periods of time, and found that those who had no contact with their mothers, nor any peers during the first year of their lives were severely disturbed by the experience. When brought out of isolation, these monkeys did not participate in the active play, which is characteristic of normal monkeys, instead they huddled and withdrew. Once they turned into matured monkeys, they also proved to be incapable of mating, and those that were artificially inseminated were incompetent parents. Interestingly, monkeys who had not experienced being loved by a mother showed no love for their children, and even abused them horrifically. To establish whether or not a similar phenomenon occurs in human development, Goldfarb (1955) studied children who were brought up in orphanages with little or no human contact for the first 3 years of their lives, and he compared them to children

Flahtahl s Propaganda Triumph Of The Will ( 1938 ) Since the advent of documentary film with Robert Flaherty s Nanook of the North (1922), those with power have sought to use it as a tool in their arsenal to reach people. Advances in communications technology in the early twentieth century allowed it to be used as a one way message delivery system to the masses, however the ways in which this has been implemented have varied hugely based on context and political viewpoint. Through consideration of Leni Riefenstahl s propaganda Triumph of the Will (1935), and Lorentz s advocacy documentary The River (1938) this essay will analyse the concepts of persuasion, education and propaganda in documentary film, discussing the similarities and differences between these areas. It is worth first briefly defining the ideas that this essay will cover, education is at its purest form the provision of information and systematic instruction while persuasion is the attempt to induce change through reasoning. Propaganda, conversely, is non objective/biased information used to promote a point of view. Although on paper the distinctions seem clear, in practical use it quickly becomes apparent how much these lines can blur. If persuasion is a technique that attempts to change viewpoints, how far does it really sit from this idea of propaganda? Both films that will be discussed were produced in the nineteen thirties, a turbulent political landscape where the great depression and high unemployment rates in Europe had put democratic capitalism under

While I am not familiar with David Cronenberg s work watching this one film quickly acclimated me to his extreme methods of capturing reality. Many of the images projected on the screen evoked such a visceral reaction that the emotions of the characters seemed to live vicariously through the audience. Because the movie was so simple and directed towards character development and not plot development it needed to create some very realistic emotions, and it did. It explained in pictures how terrible and gruesome it is to kill a person and how intense and erotic it is to be in love. The movie was no holds barred in the most fundamental sense. While the cinematographer was not challenged with extensive special effects he/she did a tremendous job of shooting and editing the movies romantic scenes as well as the all important violent scenes. One scene that stuck out is when one of the characters shoots another in the face and you see his blood and brains spray out the back of his skull. While this has been done in other movies I have never seen it done so convincingly. It was these kinds of small things the movie relied on to bring forth emotion and it was the cinematographer who came through to make this movie worth seeing. Overall I am not a movie buff; in fact the last movie I saw in theatres was The Italian Job , yet recommending this movie to anyone is a no brainier. People love to see movies for a variety of reasons, but one reason I love movies is because they create a dramatic portrayal of reality, and I have not seen a movie do that as well as this one in long time. However, in any conflict, at least one party must make sacrifices to work toward a resolution. Athena achieves her paradoxical result by misleading Apollo to think that he has received total victory in judgment and by offering compensatory powers to the Erinyes, thus creating an illusion of satisfaction for all amidst a reality of compromise. Athena first addresses Apollo s argument of the superiority of paternity, but she allows compromise by never fully admitting that Clytemnestra s murder was morally justified. Initially, Athena announces, I approve the male in all things...... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Orestes departs without a judgment of justice, the Erinyes nonetheless cry out, I am bereft of honor, unhappy one! (Eumenides 780). On the surface, it appears that Athena s judgment, by granting greater importance to paternity and the male gender roles of Apollo and Orestes, has compromised the honor of the female Erinyes, who were acting on behalf of the significance of Clytemnestra s maternity. Athena replies by saying, In all justice I promise you shall have a seat and a cavern in this righteous land, (Eumenides 804 805). Here, Athena offers the Erinyes justice, which she denied Orestes. This offer convinces the Erinyes to change their ancient ways to become part of the newer Olympian order by serving as protecting goddesses of Athens. This agreement parallels one of the main themes of the Oresteia: just as justice progresses from a system of blood guilt to a more civilized trial system, so the Erinyes progress from the old generation of earth gods to become a part of the new Olympian order. Athena herself participates in the judgement not as an unbiased arbiter of justice, but as a participant in the conflict who compromises and gains advantage from the consequences of her judgment just as Apollo, Orestes, and the Erinyes did. Athena judges with the interest of Athens, her city, in mind. When her judgment releases Orestes, he promises that if they [his descendants] always honor this city of Pallas with the spear of allies,

Swing Music And The Popularity Of Swing Music Swing band arrangements were in large part composed, often of simple, repeated material, or riffs, that alternated between contrapuntal lines and intense unison rhythms. Improvisation also had a featured role, and soloists would play while the rest of the band, aside from the rhythm section, dropped out or played arranged background lines. POPULARITY OF SWING MUSIC One explanation for swing music s popularity is that its driving intensity and abandon represented pleasure and freedom in a time when the country was steeped in hard times. The Great Depression caused Americans to suffer, and dancing to swing music was a way for people to forget their worries. Swing music featured a section of three or four trumpeters, three or four trombonist, five saxophonists who often doubled on clarinets, a piano, a bassist instead of a tuba player, a guitarist, and a drummer. During the 1930s, swing came to symbolize joy and ease, the weight of which was reflected in Duke Ellington s piece, It Don t Mean a Thing (If It Ain t Got That Swing). In the final scene of Are You Somebody, O Faolain has conflicting feelings about her past and future and poses many questions to herself. Another major differenceis that O Faolain appears to beg for the readers pity more in the final scenes than the other authors. This allowed for them to see what was being taught. It was also helpful that there were examples provided during the presentation to allow for a real life experiences in the workforce, making everything more relatable to each individual in its own unique way. There were also instances where trainees were asked questions and to engage them throughout the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think, especially when there were pop quizzes throughout. Trainees were also able to ask questions during the entire presentation, allowing for people to have their answers answered at any point. In order for this to succeed we had to prepare beforehand so that the questions would be answered as effectively and as clearly as they could. Having handouts that had the slides with room to write notes on the side allowed the audience to make notes and to write ideas. ABSTRACT: In this paper we want to discuss the focal point of a concave mirror by locating the centre of curvature. The focal point is a point in space at which light incident towards the mirror and travelling parallel to the principal axis will meet after reflection. The diagram at the right depicts this principle. In fact, if some light from the sun were collected by a concave mirror, then it would converge at the focal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the diagram I have drawn I ve had to exaggerate the shape of the mirror a bit to be able to use it in some of the diagrams later on, but you should be able to get the basic idea. Like a regular circle, the distance from the centre to the surface of the mirror is the radius. Focus or Focal Point (F) If an object was infinitely far away from the mirror, the light from it would converge on this one point. In the diagrams we are doing we will mostly be looking at how some light rays pass through (or appear to pass through) this focal point. The focal point is exactly in between the mirror and the centre. Since the distance between the centre and the mirror is the radius, the distance from the focal point to the mirror is half of the radius. Principle Axis The blue line is the principle axis, a line that we will use as a reference point in our diagrams. It passes through the centre and is perpendicular to the surface of the mirror. (White, 1999) There are two main rules we need to use to figure out where the image of the object will appear. All of the rules involve what a ray will do when leaves the object. Rule #1: Any ray through the focal point will reflect parallel to the principle axis (Figure 2). Light reflects off objects at all sorts of angles, and if it will help us to find where an image is, we might as well assume one ray goes right through the focus.

The Matrix, Directed By The Wachowski Brothers The 1999 film The Matrix , directed by the Wachowski Brothers, tells the story of a computer generated world in which humans are used as batteries to power the matrix systems. The film focuses on a small team of humans who are fighting against the matrix. There are several themes in this film and many of which are suggested through the material body . The material body is made up of four key elements cinematography, mise en scГЁne, editing and soundtrack. These elements are crucial to the audience s understanding of the narrative and the director s intended meaning. The Two pills scene is a good example of how the material body can be used to analyse the presentation of characters and the narrative. Mise en scГЁne refers to the arrangement and setting up of the stage or set in a movie or play. This consists of setting/dГ©cor, costume, props, actors and lighting (Bordwell Thompson, 2008, p.112). In the two pills scene, the setting appears to be a sitting room in an old, abandoned house. The dГ©cor that now looks dull and drab gives the illusion that it was once a very grand room. There are wooden, period furnishings and the walls appear to be made up of wooden panels. The clip takes place in front of an old, marble like fireplace. While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn t affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer break. They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively affect students. There are solutions other than making schoolgo all year round. A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks after a set amount of dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of attending school a year. One idea that a school using year round school might use is the 60 20 plan. This means that students attend school for 60 days and get 20 days off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30 plans.
