Nursing Home Residents Case Study Essay
Case Study 4 Question 1: What are the most common causes of LRTI in nursing home residents? This
case study tells the story of Evelyn Rafferty, an 85 year old nursing home resident. Ms. Rafferty
presents with an elevated temperature, tachypnea, cough, shortness of breath, and crackles on lung
auscultation. Her signs and symptoms are consistent with the diagnosis of a lower respiratory tract
infection (LRTI). Her case is not so uncommon among nursing home residents. Nursing home
residents are especially at risk for LRTIs, such as pneumonia, due to a variety of factors. This patient
population is compromised in terms of immunity and mobility. Immunocompromise may stem from
existing chronic conditions, and impaired mobility may be one of the

Fidel Castro s Conspiracy
After Fidel Castro overthrew Cuban strongman Fulgencio Batista, expropriated American economic
assets and developed links with the Soviet Union, President Eisenhower authorized the CIA in March
1960 to develop a plan to overthrow Castro. The agency trained and armed Cuban exiles to carry out
the attack. Shortly after his inauguration, John F. Kennedy learned of the invasion plan, concluded that
Fidel Castro was a Soviet client posing a threat to all of Latin America and, after consultations with
his advisers, gave his consent in February 1961 for the CIA planned amphibious assault.
Launched from Guatemala on April 17, 1961, the invasion force of 1,400 Cuban exiles known as
Brigade 2506 landed at the beaches along the Bay of Pigs on the south

Essay On Being A Stage Manager
Next on my list was a regional stage manager, Ruth Kramer. Ruth is based out of New York, however
her last job was in Pittsburgh. As of right now Ruth is between adventures as she so cheerfully put it.
However, the last show she worked on was Equus. Equus was a big show, and the hardest part was
keeping the actors safe. The men played horses, so they had horse masks and hooves which made it
difficult to see and walk around on stage. As for Ruth, the hardest part was learning the text and
material, because this show was about psychology so she had to research to fully understand the
production. Besides that, she said that everything else went well during the show. However, her
director decided to leave for a week instead of the 2 days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The longest she has been without work will be 4 months, which would be from this November to
February 2018. Although she is on the board for Actors Equity Association and is a part of 10
committees she does not need a retail job while she is between jobs. She thinks if you cannot go a few
weeks or even months with our having a job than this is not a business you should be in. Ruth s advice
simply boiled down to you have to absolutely love it if you want to do it. She said this, there is influx
of stage managers and an outflow of jobs . If you find out when you start you are not good, do not do
this as your job. And lastly if you choose to do this you have to be able to want to stage manage
anything. After talking to Ruth, it was put into perspective that I cannot have any doubts about being a
stage manager. My last interview was with a Halloween Horror Nights stage manager, Madalyn
Musser. Madalyn was an assistant stage manager on the Bill and Ted Show at Halloween Horror
Nights this past season. She also oversees certain sections of entertainment for holiday events at
Universal. She said the hardest part of working at Universal as a whole is the politics. The
environment is very competitive, you always have to do your best to be put on another event. The
easiest part is making great connections, because the more shows you work the more people will
recognize you. Madalyn, along with every other stage

Essay On Schizophrenics
For the cause of this illness, researches strongly believe that genetics and brain chemistry and the
schizophrenics environments contribute to development of this kind of mental disorder.
Firstly, the main cause of schizophrenia is genetic. Due to research to family members of the patients
with Schizophrenia, we usually have risk to get schizophrenia is about 5% among the relatives who
have this illness compared to general population. For twins, the identical twins have 40% to 65%
chances of developing this illness while fraternal twins have 14% 17% chance of having
schizophrenia. Next, for the someone who has Schizophrenic parents, one has 12% potential to have
this mental illness. However, it can increase to 46% to 50% if both of his parents are affected. The
close genetic relationship to a patient with Schizophrenic are riskier to have schizophrenia compared
to distant genetic relationships. The relatives of Schizophrenic were often contaminated by hereditary
mental disease (Bleuler). Baby of a Schizophrenic mother s still have the risk to have Schizophrenia
eventhough the baby is isolated from his/her mother after the birth to avoid the Schizophrenia
environment.
Next, Schizophrenic pregnant lady usually have the complication during the giving births. The

increase the level of dopamine availability which will lead to psychotic symptoms. Apart from that,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Multiprocessor Operating...
Multiprocessor Operating Systems
Multiprocessing is a mode of operation in which two or more processors in a computer simultaneously
process two or more different portions of the same program or set of instructions. Multiprocessing
refers to a computer system s ability to support more than one process or program at the same time.
Multiprocessing operating systems enable several programs to run parallel (Hosch). It is typically
carried out by two or more microprocessors, each of which is in a central processing unit (CPU) on a
single tiny chip. Supercomputers typically combine thousands of such microprocessors to interpret
and execute instructions. UNIX is one of the most broadly used multiprocessing systems used today;
others include OS/2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If one processor fails, the failure may slow down the entire system. Another disadvantage would be
the initial cost. Although money is being saved in the long run, the initial price is an investment in the
beginning. Multiprocessors need to be specifically designed to work with operating systems and
programs, which could leave to chance that the software being used may only use a single processor,
regardless of how ever many there are in the system itself. Another common occurs with
multiprocessor server boards when processors are installed that are designed to use different clocking
speeds. To expect multiprocessors to work properly together, they should have identical speed ratings.
Although it s possible that in some cases a faster processor can be clocked down to work in the
system, problems normally occurring between mismatched processors will cause operational glitches
beyond the tolerance of server networks. The safest approach with multiprocessor server boards is to
install processors that are guaranteed by their manufacturer to work together. These will generally be
matched according to their family, model, and stepping version (Marcraft International). Latency and
overhead are also some drawbacks to having a multiprocessing unit because of the time wasted and
the time delay in achieving or initiating the client s processing

Emerson s Theory Of Self-Reliance
An individual deferring to an expert opinion on a practical matter and instead chooses to follow
blindly to their own opinion is not a practitioner of self reliance. The moment an individual chooses to
forgo the guidance of an expert, who has the time and dedication in the field where they spent their
lives perfecting their craft, is the moment they become enslaved by their ego. I will first give a brief
explanation of Emerson s view on self reliance, and then show it relates to today. Lastly I will explain
the difference between being self reliant and thinking that you are self reliant. Self Reliance, is an
essay in which Ralph Waldo Emerson stresses his stance on why an individual should be self reliant, a
term in which he describes as a person who possesses the necessary traits to carry out his own
individuality against external norms and what their society wishes for them to become. For a person to
become self reliant, under Emerson s point of view, I find three quotes that can support his notion: An
individual must not seek things outside other than himself, meaning one must not be seeking ideas that
he did not formulate on his own, seek approval from others who wish to change his character, or to
seek to fit in a society that doesn t match his interests. Instead, that person must embrace the qualities
that make up themselves, not making up for the community. For an individual to be a nonconformist,
they should be stubborn to conforming to the type of person

Protruism In America
When I was born my family lived in Romania and after some years moved to Ohio, Japan, Texas, and
finally I have stayed in S. Korea for ten years now. Where my society or what culture I follow is hard
to determine, but my nationality is U.S., so I will concentrate on the American society. Pro social and
altruism are important all over the world. People tend to fight, but being pro social and being altruistic
form connections with people and allow us to view each other in a better light. In America, I believe
pro social behavior and altruism is important because everyone in the society are so different, and it
creates a point of similarity as well as charitability.
Pro social behavior and altruism are reinforced by natural biological and American

How Did Normans Build Motte And Bailey Castles
Castles were constructed strategically as military structures to defend against attackers and enemies.
They were built to maximize their defense features and limit any weaknesses that the enemy could
capitalize on. Around the 10th century, Normans began to build motte and bailey castles to protect
themselves from any Viking invasions or attacks which depended on the element of surprise. Motte
and bailey castles got their name from their motte which is a mound of earth and their bailey, a flat
enclosed area that is usually surrounded by a wooden fence. On top of the motte was the keep which
was a tower or structure that operated as the last line of defense. The motte was sometimes human
made and was combined with a nearby hill. The keep was also where ... Show more content on

Castles began to be built with stone instead of timber and became stronger to withstand sieges. For
example, castles included drawbridges and other features such as ditches, rivers and moats were built
to encircle the castle. As the construction of castles improved and new innovations were integrated,
concentric circle castles emerged in the 12th century. These were castles with an inner wall and an
outer wall, hence the name, concentric, which means a circle inside another circle. The inner wall was
higher than the outer wall which allowed archers to shoot over the outer walls and the outer wall was
thicker to have a strong first line of defense. More important structures were built within the inner
wall and the multiple walls construction made the castle more durable during the event of a siege or an
attack. When an attack occurred, the concentric design of the castle resulted in many attackers getting
struck in the middle of the inner and outer walls. The soldiers defended the castle took advantage of
the situation and the attacker would be bombarded with traps, hot liquid and murder

History of Lean Manufacturing
Toyota Production System Overview
The concept of Lean Manufacturing gets is roots from car manufacturing in the early 1930s and
1940s. Stemming from innovative production techniques developed and implemented by Henry Ford,
modern day Lean Manufacturing was developed by Taiichi Ohno of Toyota Motor Company after
World War II as a result of the diverse market conditions the company faced.
At a time when western car manufactures, like Ford and General Motors, where using mass
production and economies of scale manufacturing methods, Toyota faced very different business
conditions. Toyota s market was very small and diverse, leaving the organization to ... Show more

Just as with Lean Manufacturing, Lean Construction focuses on establishing value, as defined by the
customer, it with the goal of constructing a product that delivers on that value. Thus, value must come
before planning and design. (Mohammed).
Principle 2: Identify and Map Value Stream
In Lean Manufacturing the value stream identifies the necessary steps for developing and creating a
product that is valuable from the customer s perspective. In other words, the value stream determines
how and when decisions are made in the production process.
Lean Construction uses a similar technique called value stream mapping, as known as process
mapping, to understand how a construction project will be designed, supplied, and built. Hence, this is
where the planning and design aspects mentioned in the above section, come into play. Typical Lean
Construction value stream maps consist of the following:
Problem solving tasks: ranging from concept through detailed design and engineering to production
launch.
Information management tasks: ranging from order taking through detailed scheduling to delivery.
Physical transformation tasks: ranging from raw materials to producing finished products that get
delivered into the hands of the customer.
As demonstrated above, these mapping techniques highlight how the construction plan, design,
logistics, and operation

The Poverty Of The Hunger Rebellion
The Hunger Rebellion
The United States ranks near the bottom of the pack of wealthy nations on a measure of child poverty,
according to a new report from UNICEF. Nearly one third of U.S. children live in households with an
income below 60 percent of the national median income in 2008 about $31,000 annually. In the richest
nation in the world, one in three kids live in poverty. according to Cristopher Ingraham, a political
writer who previously worked at the Brookings Institution and the Pew Research Center. Child
poverty is becoming progressively a serious issue in the society, principally when correlating it with
being one of If not the wealthiest countries in the world. The effect of it is not minimal nor limited to
the children in poverty, it is implementing the future education, health, and faith of the country. So by
deciphering the problem, the lives saving would be beyond limits. The non profit organization
Children s Hunger Fund is acting to reduce and hope to eventually eliminate child poverty by offering
the combination of physical and spiritual support believing they are essential base to explore
knowledge, and without them our bodies and souls are ill, confused and lost.
Children s Hunger Fund (CHF) is a religious based organization that aims to deliver hope by feeding
poor hungry children in America and around the world and by equipping local churches for gospel
centered mercy ministry. It was established in 1991 by president and founder Dave Philips

The Labyrinth of Life in The Garden of Forking Paths by Yu Tsun
A labyrinth is classically a human construction designed to confuse. It can trap our lives, hiding our
past and future and constantly forcing us to make choices, even though we may not know what the
consequences of those choices might be. The confusion of the puzzle may even tempt us to run blindly
through the labyrinth, ending in disaster. Life itself is often considered such a labyrinth, and by
adopting the strategies of travelers who came before and choosing our path cautiously while playing
close attention to the patterns of our lives, we may find the right path through the maze. Although the
Labyrinth appears to be an intellectual challenge, every turn is ... Show more content on

Similarly to Yu Tsun on his fatal journey, we are constantly confronted with choices, but we are dimly
aware of the presence of most of these choices, and even less aware of the full consequences. Once
Albert turned his back, Yu Tsun ?readied the revolver?(579) and ?fired with extreme caution? (579).
Yu Tsun did not consider any ethical consequences of his actions; he just killed a man who spent his
entire life unraveling the history of Yu Tsun s ancestor. Even worse is the chance that the best
intentions can still lead to disaster. Yu Tsun remembers that the key to ?certain labyrinths? is ?to turn
always to the left? (575). Unfortunately, the labyrinth of life lacks such simple rules to guide us. In
fact, keeping a path which is too constant may result in walking in circles. Therefore, whether the
labyrinth is a maze of our own construction or a trap we have found ourselves in, there is no easy way
to escape any predicament.
Yu Tsun chose to ?impose a future as irrevocable as the past? (575) when trying to choose his path, but
it is the past that defines is, and provides us knowledge of how things could occur in the future. Not
only is Yu Tsun ignoring his past, but by ?[imposing] a future as irrevocable as the past? (575), he is
completely bypassing any ethical decisions he has to make. By forcing himself to believe that he must
kill Albert, he is denying the fact that

This was easily seen in the St. Patrick s Day parade, where people were getting pushed around in the
crowd, which led to one incident of an female individual unable to breath and the paramedics being
called. Jaguaribe (2013) proposed that during carnival time, social signs are inverted; the poor were
decked out in glorious finery, men were clothed as women, impoverished black men and women were
transformed into baroque courtiers of the French Court, family men shed their inhibitions, and
housewives revelled in insinuating costumes (Jaguaribe, 2013). I agree with Jaguaribe s argument in
terms of blacks dressing up someone else, this can be seen in the St. Patrick s Day parade, where
people from various ethnic backgrounds were participating in the parade itself, dressed up as
Leprechauns and other various costumes. However, in relation to the St. Patrick s Day parade, I argue
that the social relations were actually enhanced. In order to participate in the parade, you had to apply
beforehand with a fee, which may have prevented homeless people or others from participating due to
the regulations on holding a parade in Toronto.
In conclusion, my attendance and observation at the St. Patrick s Day parade gave me a clear and

Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey Essay
In Roe v. Wade, in 1973, the Supreme Court held a case that a pregnant woman has the full privacy
right to have an abortion. The right to abortion is not guaranteed and must be stable against the State s
countervailing benefits in keeping the health of the woman and in protecting the life of the unborn
child. The State s belief in protecting the health of the woman becomes definite, therefore greatly
enough to support state ruling of abortion under the strict scrutiny standard of judicial review; after the
first trimester, which is the stage of pregnancy when abortion becomes dangerous to the mother
carrying the child to term. The State s concern in protecting the life of the unborn child becomes
irresistible, after possibility, the stage of pregnancy when the unborn child is capable of independent
life. Because neither interest is irresistible before the second trimester, the State may not regulate
abortion in the first trimester either to reserve the woman s health or to protect the life of the unborn
child. After the first trimester the State may control the act of an abortion, but only for the purpose of
protecting the woman s health, not for the purpose of protecting the life of the unborn child. After
viability, the State may regulate, and even forbid, abortion to protect the life of the unborn child,
except when the act of abortion is needed to

The majority of children in schools are lacking nutrition critical to get through the day, especially if
they are going to practice right after school. This is why, as an active, hungry student; I believe that we
should be able to have multiply choices for lunch. When yes, we do have the portion sizes required by
the state, children should not have to go home from school hungry. Also, not everyone likes certain
foods they serve for lunch, and with more than one main food choice, everyone is bound to find
something they like. This is why I think that we should expand the lunch choices. Our school currently
has very small food portions. I surveyed ten random kids in junior high and high school and nine out

Racial Disparities Of African Americans
Over the past few decades, there have been a series of African Americans killed by law enforcement
officers. Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, John Crawford III, Eric Garner and countless others. The
aftermath: the officers who murdered the unarmed men have either been acquitted or there was no
indictment. What happened in Ferguson is years, if not decades in the making. African Americans are
simply tired of having to bury friends and family and discovering the officers, meant to protect the law
and serve the people, are killing black lives and are almost always found not guilty.
The racial disparities against African Americans lies is shameful, but not surprising. Race matters in
the United States. People of color do not receive the same benefits and equality as white people;
whether it be in education, the workplace and in the judicial system. The purpose of this paper is to
analyze the racial disparities to African Americans in what subsequently led to the Black lives Matter
movement. I have chosen a series of photos that capture historical events of protests and movements
including an analysis of one of my images.
Racial disparities and inequality dates all the way back to slavery: when whites abused, raped, tortured
and killed black people. Slavery transformed America into an economic power; the exploitation of
black people made the south the richest and most politically powerful region in the country (ABS).
Black people did not have any rights, instead they were forced

The Hunger Artist
Sacrifice is the act of giving up something of value to gain something that is considered to be more
important than what was given up; hunger is a form of sacrifice. The Hunger Artist by Franz Kafka, is
an interesting short story that describes a man s dark and depressing life. In this man s life he is a
hunger artist who starves himself to make small amounts of money and to gain attention from his
audiences. The hunger artist was a man who was separated from society by his fasting and suffered
from the harmful effects of his pride and confusion. The Hunger Artist is a short story that tells about a
man who starves himself for a living. The man in this story has no home and lives a nomadic life. He

The three main symbols in The Hunger Artist are the cage, clock, and the panther. The cage represents
how the hunger artist is separated from the rest of society. The man separated himself from society
from a physical sense by locking himself in a cage and not coming out. However, he also separated
himself from a mental standpoint by making his life revolve around his audiences and putting their
wants and needs above his own. This symbolism represents the cage and how separation from society
led to the hunger artist s downfall. The next symbol described in the story is the clock. The clock was
the only piece of furniture in the man s cage besides the hay. The all important striking of the clock
that was the only piece of furniture in his cage (333). The clock represents that as time goes on the
hunger artist s relationship with his audience continues to fail which starts the domino effect that
carries over to the man s mental health. Ultimately the clock shows that the hunger artist s life is
slowly ticking away and that he is slowly killing his body and his mind. The last major symbolism
used in the story is the panther. The panther replaces the hunger artist in his cage after he passes away.
The panther is the complete opposite of the hunger artist. Furnished almost to the bursting point with
all that it needed, seemed to carry freedom around with it too (342). The panther was full of life and
energy and on top of that was well nourished. The panther is very well liked in the circus unlike the
hunger artist was. Another trait the panther possessed that the hunger artist did not was that the
panther did not require attention to be happy. If the hunger artist would have simply lived with this
mindset his life would have been so much more brighter and positive. The strong use of symbolism in
this story helps explain to the

Dna Replication And The Cell Cycle
Have you ever fell while riding a bicycle? Bobby was riding on his bike down a slope hill when he
suddenly loses control of the bike and runs into a tree. Ow! Bobby falls down his bike and onto the
ground, scraping his knee. About a week later, Bobby s skin is pretty much healed up. How? How did
Bobby s wound heal?
When you get a cut in your skin, your skin cells divide to replace the ones that died from the injury.
An important part of the division of cells is DNA replication. Without DNA replication, the new cells
wouldn t have DNA. So why is DNA so important? DNA is the basic blueprint of life, and it serves to
tell the cells what to do, and what proteins to code for. Let s take a deeper look into Bobby s cell to see
what fascinating events happens during DNA replication.
DNA Replication The Cell Cycle
Before Bobby s cells enter the the stage of mitosis to divide, it goes through DNA replication. This
process occurs in the nucleus of the cell during the S phase of the interphase of the cell cycle. The
process of DNA replication is important in that it is the instruction manual found in every cell that
serves to regulate your body and its functions. For example, if tells your cells which proteins to code
for.
DNA is replicated so that it can be passed into the daughter cells at the end of mitosis.
Replication Forks and Bubbles
First, let s understand where DNA replication is happening along the DNA. The whole region of
unwound DNA is called the

Manic Episode
Regarding whether or not manic episodes can be pleasant, the book states that the episodes can make a
person feel completely fearless or angry (Comer 2015). They can experience an exceptional amount of
pleasure, more energy, needing less sleep, or increased amount of distress (Comer 2015). So, it seems
that people can experience moments of pleasure but to me it seems a little risky. I say that because the
person does not know how they will react to a manic episode (Comer 2015). For example, someone

According to an article I found online, one of two people who suffer from bipolar disorder will stop
taking their medications within 12 months of being prescribed (Oliver 2010). The reason for this is
because some enjoy the manic episodes or they medication dosage needs changing (Oliver 2010).
Other reasons listed were side effects, religion, no insurance, denial, pregnancy, and productivity
(Oliver 2010). Another comment made by the writer, which is information I have heard of before, is
the relation between not taking their medications and suicide rates (Oliver 2010). At the end of this
article, some interesting information was given about the author. It stated that he has had a loved one
who suffered from bipolar disorder and he has other articles that have information on how to deal/cope
with having a loved one suffer from this disorder (Oliver

Does Phyllis Wheatley use religious references to warn...
Does Phyllis Wheatley use religious references to warn her readers about slavery and sin and its
repercussions?
Throughout the poem, To the University of Cambridge, in New England , Phyllis Wheatley suggest
that she accepted the colonial idea of slavery, by first describing her captivity, even though this poem
has a subversive double meaning that has sent an anti slavery message. Wheatley s choice of words
indicates that her directed audience was educated at a sophisticated level because of the language
chosen. Her audience was assumingly also familiar with the bible because of the religious references
used. The bible was used as a reference because of its accessibility. Wheatley uses religious references

Wheatley is trying to subversively express that the Lord will be gracious enough to deliver the slaves
from the dark abodes , or bad treatment as he did the Egyptians in biblical times. Throughout the first
stanza of the poem, Phyllis Wheatley challenges the reader s morals by referencing the bible right off
the bat.
Wheatley continues with her double meaning subversive language and tells her readers to, scan the
heights
Above, to traverse the ethereal space,
And mark the systems of revolving worlds.
She is telling her readers to use their imaginations and be able to think past what is going on in the
world. When Wheatley uses the words ethereal space , it makes the readers think of an unearthly place
that allows them to mark or mock the systems of revolving worlds which allows them to shun the
systems that goes on in their world such as slavery and be able to think of other ways of living such as
not being enslaved.
As the poem progresses, Wheatley describes the gospel to her readers which includes the good news
about salvation. She

Diary Of A Madman, Ah Q, And An Unimportant Affair
Lu Xun often makes a point to include the underlying cruelty found in Chinese culture within his
stories. Using characters from Diary of a Madman, Ah Q, and an Unimportant Affair, I will explain
why this topic stood out to me the most. In Diary of a Madman, the main character is a madman who
writes about his delusions and lives with his older brother. Ah Q follows a man who is deemed simply
as Ah Q. It describes his hardships, which are brought on by the cruelty of the society, as well as by
his own doings. Lastly, in An Unimportant Affair the main character witnesses an event that changes
his outlook on life and the society around him and makes him contemplate his motives. In Diary of a
Madman, the main character has been locked in a room in his older brother s home. At one point, he
claims he hasn t seen the moon in thirty years. He begins by telling us he fears the neighbor, Old Zhao
and his dog, as well as the children of his village. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The madman sees cruelty all around him, whether it was real or not is up to debate, but nonetheless,
he believes the people of his village is out to get him and take advantage of him. He fears for himself
and the children who have already learned that cruelty and those that have not. He wants to see the
world change and become a better place where everyone is safe and protect each other from being
eaten . Ah Q demonstrates the distaste every culture has for the homeless and undesirable people in
the societies. He is looked down upon and beaten, sometimes just for existing. The people around him
see his as less than human, and equate him to animals, while he himself calls himself a bug. This alone
does not satisfy the malicious need to assault and humiliate him, after, they continue to beat him until

Pop Culture Has Influenced The American Way
Pop culture has always influenced the American way. In fact, there is a saying that politics is
downstream from culture. What this means is that laws, policies, and guidelines that the government
enforces are all influenced by what is being said and done in pop culture. It may be hard to see this
example today, but there were certain parts in time where this idea could be easily seen. One of these
eras was the 1960s. The 1960s was filled with turbulence. This is because of all of the significant
events happening during this time period: the arms race, the space race, the burst of new innovations,
and the Cold War. During all of these events, a revolution was beginning in the states. Many people
saw what was wrong with the United States, and strived to change it. This is how all sorts of
movements began to take place during this time period, like the civil rights movement. All of these
movements were to promote social justice. Some pop culture icons of the time voiced their thoughts
about this social justice. Three of these icons were influential musicians. These musicians are Janis
Joplin, Marvin Gaye, and Bob Dylan.
The first of these influential musicians is Janis Joplin. To understand her beliefs and how she became
such an inspiration, it is important to look at her upbringing. Janis Joplin was born in Texas in 1943.
She was raised in a middle class family during a period of time when racial segregation was
prominent. Seeing segregation as an evil that must be gotten

Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria Essay
Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria
Materials and Methods
Week 1, Day 1 (10 November 2000)
The first day an unknown sample was assigned to each group of students. The first test applied was a
gram stain to test for gram positive or gram negative bacteria. The morphology of the two types of
bacteria was viewed under the microscope and recorded. Then the sample was put on agar plates using
the quadrant streak method for isolation. There were three agar plates; one was incubated at room
temperature, the second at 30 degrees Celsius, and the third at 37 degrees Celsius. By placing each
plate at a different temperature optimal growth temperature can be predicted for both species of
bacteria.

The Urease test detects the presence of the enzyme urease. This medium contains urea and a pH
indicator, phenol red. A bacterium containing urease will produce ammonia, which raises the pH and
changes the color of the medium. A positive test shows a color change from a reddish orange to pink.
The fourth test used to identify gram negative bacteria is the Simmon s Citrate Utilization test. This
test measures a bacteria s ability to use citrate as its sole carbon source for metabolic pathways. This
solid medium contains Bromothymol Blue, which serves as a pH indicator. If the bacteria can break
down citrate it produces carbon dioxide that reacts with sodium and water, also found in the medium,
to produce sodium carbonate. Sodium carbonate elevates the pH causing a color change from green to
blue (a positive result).
The second bacterium was gram positive. There are three tests that are used to identify gram positive
bacteria. The three tests are hemolyses on blood agar, Mannitol fermentation on mannitol salt agar,
and the coagulase test using plasma containing serum in coagulase tubes.
The test on blood agar tests for a bacteria s ability to hemolyze red blood cells to obtain the iron found
in them. There are three types of hemolysis: gamma lysis, alpha lysis, and beta lysis. Gamma lysis is
the absence of erythrocyte lysis showing no color change in the blood agar. Alpha lysis is a partial
break down of hemoglobin and results

Phineas And Ferb Character Analysis
Phineas and Ferb is a children s television show that is played on the Disney Channel. The show is
about two step brothers, Phineas and Ferb, who are out of school for the summer and are in need of
activities to do during the day. The two boys always feel they have the need to do something new
every day of the summer. They always end up doing something extremely unrealistic and the activities
are almost always dangerous, especially if they were to be performed in real life. Their older sister,
Candace, is always trying to get the boys in trouble for the things that they are doing. There is also a
sub plot to this show which consists of the boys pet, Perry the Platypus, who is an undercover spy who
tries to take down the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I find this to be a big problem. With the representation of no special needs children, this only sends the
message to kids watching this show that only people without disabilities can perform activities. With
there being no view on this at all, this show missed out on a big platform to be able to show that
people with disabilities can do a lot of the things that others can do. Even though the idea of the show
is based around completely unrealistic events and activities, I would have included some sort of
representation of people with disabilities to show that they can do a lot of the same things that people
without disabilities can do. Including people with disabilities would have been a great way to show
children how to be accepting of people with disabilities and teach them that it is important to look past
someone s specific physical or intellectual disability. In one episode, the boys make a beach in their
backyard and invite the entire neighborhood to come and attend a big beach bash. The boys also create
the roller coaster and have a lot of people come ride it. In society, people with disabilities go to the
beach and are able to attend amusement parks; I think it would have been a great thing to include
someone with a disability and show how they are able to be accepted amongst kids. This show targets
a younger age group between

Healthcare Quality And Affordable Care Act ( Ppaca )
United States has no dearth of highly qualified, well trained doctors and still the US healthcare quality
fails to meet the established industry benchmarks. Institute of Medicine s (IOM s) 2001 Report,
Crossing the Quality Chasm , clearly states that the American healthcare delivery system is in need of
a pivotal change. (Committee on Quality of Healthcare in America (Institute of Medicine), 2001). The
exasperation level is continuously rising amongst both, the patients and the providers, and yet the
problem of delivering and receiving high quality care remains unaffected. In order to address this
problem of healthcare quality improvement and affordability, the Patient Protection and Affordable

attributed to difference in healthcare services provided due to absence of evidence based treatment. c)

Stakeholder Analysis
The triple aim of PPACA to promote accessible, high quality and cost efficient care involves large
number of reforms that influence all the segments associated with healthcare industry. These reforms
are affecting various stakeholders such as hospitals, physicians, and patients to varying degrees and
therefore policymakers need to consider independent stakeholder priorities along with the impact on
society and cost involved in order to achieve this triple aim. The Affordable Care Act introduces
payment reforms for individual physicians and for larger, organized health care systems, ranging from
bundled payments to payment adjustments for hospital acquired conditions. Empirical evidence shows
that payment structures such as these can improve care delivery, costs, and quality (A Report from

It is prudent for us whenever we feel our minds affected with a spiritual palsy, to apply immediately,
like the faithful Centurion, to our God and Saviour for his healing virtue, and to apply to him with that
living faith in His Diviine Omnipotence, for which the Centurion was so eminently distinguished.
Jesus Cleanses a Leper
(Matthew 8: v. 1 5):
When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed Him. And behold, a Leper came to
Him and knelt before Him, saying Lord, if you will, you can make me clean. And Jesus stretched out
his hand and touched him saying, I will, be clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And
Jesus said to him, see that you say nothing to anyone, but go and show yourself to the Priest and offer
the gift that Moses commanded for proof to them And the great crowds followed Him from Galilee
and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea and from beyond the Jordan.
Leprosy like all other bodily diseases was prevalent at the time. It was a representative figure of the
spiritual disease called profanation of good and of truth which prevailed in the Jewish church at that
time. Profanation means those acts that were not considered to be biblical and sacred, thus the Leper
was guilty of profanation, because he had knowledge of what was true and good but acted contrary to

Beethoven Romanticism
Thanks to Beethoven, music was taken highly serious among the people and the literatures of arts.
During the nineteenth century, the first two decades were devoted to Romanticism. Literature wasn t
the only thing that poured out during this time period, so did the music. People such as Jean Jacques
Rousseau, who was an Enlightenment philosopher in the mid eighteenth century, provided the
Romantics with ideas on how to express themselves as opposed to what society expected from one.
These ideas led people to live an upbeat joyful life rather than a sluggish boring one. However,
Romanticism came to be during a time of war, and because of how freely expressive the Romantics
were they became know as rebels who went against the rules and regulations. So rebellious that the
Romantic composers were experimenting with chords that had been off limits.
This time period also brought some spooky harmonies orchestral sounds, along with recognizable
operas such as Robert the Devil, The Vampire, The Magic Bullet, and Frankenstein. Just like the
Romantic period expanded the orchestral, it also picked up on the ... Show more content on

They didn t want to be without the program, but at the same time they did not want the music to make
sense on its own term. In other words, the Romantics embraced the pure beauty of instrumental music
but they also liked program music because it mixes in nonmusical elements. Although the Romantics
liked being different, most of their compositions were either miniature or grandiose compositions. The
difference is that miniature compositions were a few minutes longs, but were designed to convey a
particularly pointed emotion, and be meaningful. In contrast, grandiose compositions were meant for
large symphonies and longer time duration that were interweaved with poetry, philosophical or
religious ideas, story lines, and dramatic

The Importance Of Student Privacy
Safety and privacy both are important factors on a College campus. In 2007, Seung Hui Cho, an angry
and disturbed student, shot to death 32 students and faculty of Virginia Tech, wounded 17 more, and
then killed himself. Cho was a mentally disturbed student who had suicidal and homicidal tendencies.
Ever since the Virginia Tech shooting happened, there has been debate whether safety is more
important than student privacy or not. Many people claim that privacy protection laws are the reasons
that campuses aren t safe anymore, where others believe that everyone needs personal space and a
right to have privacy. There are people who claim that student privacy should be ignored to maintain
campus safety, where others believe that every student should have the right of privacy; however,
student privacy should be protected, while alternative methods for campus safety should be taken.
Many people believe that campus safety is more important than student privacy, hence it should be
ignored. There have been incidents where disturbed students sometimes hurt themselves and
sometimes hurt others, like the Virginia Tech incident. After the incident, many people came forward
claiming that they knew that the student was disturbed, and need assistance, but due to student privacy
laws, they didn t do anything. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is being
blamed here because according to FERPA schools can t release student s health and academic records

The Berlin Wall Essay example
For thirty years, an iron curtain lay across Germany. This iron curtain was called the Berlin Wall, and
it represented the divide between East and West Germany. It also represented the loss of East Germany
s freedom and democracy. The Berlin Wall separated families and friends. This resulted in children
growing up without a father and wives losing all communication with their husbands. The Berlin Wall
poorly affected many people and businesses, and caused an ugly dent in Germany s history.
After World War Two ended, Germany was in a horrible state. America would fly in all kinds of
supplies on an average of one plane every three minutes (Levy 11). America, Great Britain, and
France created three zones with democratic governments in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In response to this, the side of Germany under control of the Soviet Union became the German
Republic of Germany, also known as West Germany. This was one of the first steps that would divide
Germany for almost 30 years.
The German Communist Party began restricting East German s ability to travel to the West in 1949
(Levy 13). Germany s Eastern government installed barbed wire and minefields fields along the
border of East and West Germany. However, Eastern Germans still found a way to escape to the
western side of Germany. The most popular way of escape was known as the five cent subway ride to
freedom. There was a subway system in Berlin that linked it s Eastern and Western sides together. For
five cents, eastern Germans would take the train from East Germany to West Germany. Then that
person would slip through the border or take a plane or bus out. According to Debbie Levy, during the
first six months of 1961, 160,000 Germans had escaped from the East to the West. From 1949 to 1961,
more than three million Germans had escaped from the East to the West. This upset the Soviet
Officials in charge of Germany very much. Half of the people escaping East Germany were under 25,
and three quarters were under 45. The people escaping included: 16,000 engineers, 5,000 doctors,
dentists, and veterinaries, 1,000 university professors and lecturers, and 15,000 high school and

What Causes Romeo And Juliet To Blame
Blame is when a person assigns blame to others. People resort to blame because it soften the blow for
them and helps relieve them from feeling guilty. In the play Romeo and Juliet, blame plays the factor
of placing the deaths of Romeo and Juliet into someone s hand so their families could have peace.
Blame is placed when people know they are wrong but no not want the guilt. Romeo and Juliet are
both to blame for their deaths. Both of them together made rash decisions and did not wait to tell the
other person their plans to stay together. In the play Juliet went to Friar Laurence hoping to protect
herself from her father. She took a drink from a substance he gave her without Romeo knowing and
Romeo saw her after thinking she was dead so he drank poison to be with her. It caused the ripple
effect of them wanted to do everything to be together but they did one thing after another and caused
their own death. Following this, Romeo got himself in trouble for Juliet because he was not thinking

The Godfather Character Analysis Essay
The old saying, Behind every great man is a great woman, is true in the case of Michael Corleone, the
son of Don Vito Corleone of The Godfather. The film focuses on the story of Michael and how he
changes from a respectable, educated Marine to the ringleader of his father s mafia business. In
between the drastic turn of events, Michael has two love interests, both of which have a large, yet
quiet, impact on his life. Kay Adams, the first of the two love interests, is the average American
woman. She is educated, smart, and possibly a bit too liberated for a female of that time period, but
she is a loved character because of this. Kay s relationship with Michael started before the movie and
they seem to enjoy a pleasant romance and friendship, but it is put on hold when Michael goes to
Sicily to evade charges of a murder he committed. The second of the love interests is Apollonia Vitelli,
a Sicilian native whom Michael met when he was in hiding in Italy. She was the complete opposite of
Kay and was raised by a traditional Italian family. I think you got hit by the thunderbolt, says one of
Corleone s bodyguards when Michael sees Apollonia for the first time. The two are in love and soon
married, though it is short lived when a bomb meant for Michael is ignited and kills Apollonia.
Michael then returns to his home in New York and pursues a relationship and marriage with Kay
Adams. Before Michael hid in Sicily, he was a man of sincerity and held a deep compassion for

Fidel Castro s Conspiracy After Fidel Castro overthrew Cuban strongman Fulgencio Batista, expropriated American economic assets and developed links with the Soviet Union, President Eisenhower authorized the CIA in March 1960 to develop a plan to overthrow Castro. The agency trained and armed Cuban exiles to carry out the attack. Shortly after his inauguration, John F. Kennedy learned of the invasion plan, concluded that Fidel Castro was a Soviet client posing a threat to all of Latin America and, after consultations with his advisers, gave his consent in February 1961 for the CIA planned amphibious assault. • 4. Essay On Being A Stage Manager Next on my list was a regional stage manager, Ruth Kramer. Ruth is based out of New York, however her last job was in Pittsburgh. As of right now Ruth is between adventures as she so cheerfully put it. However, the last show she worked on was Equus. Equus was a big show, and the hardest part was keeping the actors safe. The men played horses, so they had horse masks and hooves which made it difficult to see and walk around on stage. As for Ruth, the hardest part was learning the text and material, because this show was about psychology so she had to research to fully understand the production. Besides that, she said that everything else went well during the show. However, her director decided to leave for a week instead of the 2 days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although she is on the board for Actors Equity Association and is a part of 10 committees she does not need a retail job while she is between jobs. She thinks if you cannot go a few weeks or even months with our having a job than this is not a business you should be in. Ruth s advice simply boiled down to you have to absolutely love it if you want to do it. She said this, there is influx of stage managers and an outflow of jobs . If you find out when you start you are not good, do not do this as your job. And lastly if you choose to do this you have to be able to want to stage manage anything. After talking to Ruth, it was put into perspective that I cannot have any doubts about being a stage manager. My last interview was with a Halloween Horror Nights stage manager, Madalyn Musser. Madalyn was an assistant stage manager on the Bill and Ted Show at Halloween Horror Nights this past season. She also oversees certain sections of entertainment for holiday events at Universal. She said the hardest part of working at Universal as a whole is the politics. The environment is very competitive, you always have to do your best to be put on another event. The easiest part is making great connections, because the more shows you work the more people will recognize you. Madalyn, along with every other stage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay On Schizophrenics For the cause of this illness, researches strongly believe that genetics and brain chemistry and the schizophrenics environments contribute to development of this kind of mental disorder. Firstly, the main cause of schizophrenia is genetic. Due to research to family members of the patients with Schizophrenia, we usually have risk to get schizophrenia is about 5% among the relatives who have this illness compared to general population. For twins, the identical twins have 40% to 65% chances of developing this illness while fraternal twins have 14% 17% chance of having schizophrenia. Next, for the someone who has Schizophrenic parents, one has 12% potential to have this mental illness. However, it can increase to 46% to 50% if both of his parents are affected. The close genetic relationship to a patient with Schizophrenic are riskier to have schizophrenia compared to distant genetic relationships. The relatives of Schizophrenic were often contaminated by hereditary mental disease (Bleuler). • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Multiprocessor Operating... Multiprocessor Operating Systems Multiprocessing is a mode of operation in which two or more processors in a computer simultaneously process two or more different portions of the same program or set of instructions. Multiprocessing refers to a computer system s ability to support more than one process or program at the same time. Multiprocessing operating systems enable several programs to run parallel (Hosch). It is typically carried out by two or more microprocessors, each of which is in a central processing unit (CPU) on a single tiny chip. Supercomputers typically combine thousands of such microprocessors to interpret and execute instructions. UNIX is one of the most broadly used multiprocessing systems used today; others include OS/2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one processor fails, the failure may slow down the entire system. Another disadvantage would be the initial cost. Although money is being saved in the long run, the initial price is an investment in the beginning. Multiprocessors need to be specifically designed to work with operating systems and programs, which could leave to chance that the software being used may only use a single processor, regardless of how ever many there are in the system itself. Another common occurs with multiprocessor server boards when processors are installed that are designed to use different clocking speeds. To expect multiprocessors to work properly together, they should have identical speed ratings. Although it s possible that in some cases a faster processor can be clocked down to work in the system, problems normally occurring between mismatched processors will cause operational glitches beyond the tolerance of server networks. The safest approach with multiprocessor server boards is to install processors that are guaranteed by their manufacturer to work together. These will generally be matched according to their family, model, and stepping version (Marcraft International). Latency and overhead are also some drawbacks to having a multiprocessing unit because of the time wasted and the time delay in achieving or initiating the client s processing ... • 7. Emerson s Theory Of Self-Reliance An individual deferring to an expert opinion on a practical matter and instead chooses to follow blindly to their own opinion is not a practitioner of self reliance. The moment an individual chooses to forgo the guidance of an expert, who has the time and dedication in the field where they spent their lives perfecting their craft, is the moment they become enslaved by their ego. I will first give a brief explanation of Emerson s view on self reliance, and then show it relates to today. Lastly I will explain the difference between being self reliant and thinking that you are self reliant. Self Reliance, is an essay in which Ralph Waldo Emerson stresses his stance on why an individual should be self reliant, a term in which he describes as a person who possesses the necessary traits to carry out his own individuality against external norms and what their society wishes for them to become. For a person to become self reliant, under Emerson s point of view, I find three quotes that can support his notion: An individual must not seek things outside other than himself, meaning one must not be seeking ideas that he did not formulate on his own, seek approval from others who wish to change his character, or to seek to fit in a society that doesn t match his interests. Instead, that person must embrace the qualities that make up themselves, not making up for the community. For an individual to be a nonconformist, they should be stubborn to conforming to the type of person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were built to maximize their defense features and limit any weaknesses that the enemy could capitalize on. Around the 10th century, Normans began to build motte and bailey castles to protect themselves from any Viking invasions or attacks which depended on the element of surprise. Motte and bailey castles got their name from their motte which is a mound of earth and their bailey, a flat enclosed area that is usually surrounded by a wooden fence. For example, castles included drawbridges and other features such as ditches, rivers and moats were built to encircle the castle. As the construction of castles improved and new innovations were integrated, concentric circle castles emerged in the 12th century. These were castles with an inner wall and an outer wall, hence the name, concentric, which means a circle inside another circle. The inner wall was higher than the outer wall which allowed archers to shoot over the outer walls and the outer wall was thicker to have a strong first line of defense. More important structures were built within the inner wall and the multiple walls construction made the castle more durable during the event of a siege or an attack. Just as with Lean Manufacturing, Lean Construction focuses on establishing value, as defined by the customer, it with the goal of constructing a product that delivers on that value. Thus, value must come before planning and design. (Mohammed). Principle 2: Identify and Map Value Stream In Lean Manufacturing the value stream identifies the necessary steps for developing and creating a product that is valuable from the customer s perspective. In other words, the value stream determines how and when decisions are made in the production process. Lean Construction uses a similar technique called value stream mapping, as known as process mapping, to understand how a construction project will be designed, supplied, and built. Hence, this is where the planning and design aspects mentioned in the above section, come into play. Typical Lean Construction value stream maps consist of the following: Problem solving tasks: ranging from concept through detailed design and engineering to production launch. Information management tasks: ranging from order taking through detailed scheduling to delivery. Physical transformation tasks: ranging from raw materials to producing finished products that get delivered into the hands of the customer. As demonstrated above, these mapping techniques highlight how the construction plan, design, logistics, and operation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The confusion of the puzzle may even tempt us to run blindly through the labyrinth, ending in disaster. Yu Tsun did not consider any ethical consequences of his actions; he just killed a man who spent his entire life unraveling the history of Yu Tsun s ancestor. Even worse is the chance that the best intentions can still lead to disaster. Yu Tsun remembers that the key to ?certain labyrinths? is ?to turn always to the left? (575). The right to abortion is not guaranteed and must be stable against the State s countervailing benefits in keeping the health of the woman and in protecting the life of the unborn child. The State s belief in protecting the health of the woman becomes definite, therefore greatly enough to support state ruling of abortion under the strict scrutiny standard of judicial review; after the first trimester, which is the stage of pregnancy when abortion becomes dangerous to the mother carrying the child to term. However, he also separated himself from a mental standpoint by making his life revolve around his audiences and putting their wants and needs above his own. This symbolism represents the cage and how separation from society led to the hunger artist s downfall. The next symbol described in the story is the clock. The clock was the only piece of furniture in the man s cage besides the hay. The all important striking of the clock that was the only piece of furniture in his cage (333). The clock represents that as time goes on the hunger artist s relationship with his audience continues to fail which starts the domino effect that carries over to the man s mental health. Ultimately the clock shows that the hunger artist s life is slowly ticking away and that he is slowly killing his body and his mind. The last major symbolism used in the story is the panther. The panther replaces the hunger artist in his cage after he passes away. The panther is the complete opposite of the hunger artist. Furnished almost to the bursting point with all that it needed, seemed to carry freedom around with it too (342). The panther was full of life and energy and on top of that was well nourished. The panther is very well liked in the circus unlike the hunger artist was. Another trait the panther possessed that the hunger artist did not was that the panther did not require attention to be happy. I entered the store and within the first minute I was greeted by one of the sales people and she gave me a brief overview of the stores layout and where I would be able to find the men s items, and then gave me some time to look around the store. • 22. Dna Replication And The Cell Cycle Have you ever fell while riding a bicycle? Bobby was riding on his bike down a slope hill when he suddenly loses control of the bike and runs into a tree. Ow! Bobby falls down his bike and onto the ground, scraping his knee. About a week later, Bobby s skin is pretty much healed up. How? How did Bobby s wound heal? When you get a cut in your skin, your skin cells divide to replace the ones that died from the injury. An important part of the division of cells is DNA replication. Without DNA replication, the new cells wouldn t have DNA. So why is DNA so important? DNA is the basic blueprint of life, and it serves to tell the cells what to do, and what proteins to code for. Let s take a deeper look into Bobby s cell to see what fascinating events happens during DNA replication. DNA Replication The Cell Cycle Before Bobby s cells enter the the stage of mitosis to divide, it goes through DNA replication. This process occurs in the nucleus of the cell during the S phase of the interphase of the cell cycle. The process of DNA replication is important in that it is the instruction manual found in every cell that serves to regulate your body and its functions. For example, if tells your cells which proteins to code for. DNA is replicated so that it can be passed into the daughter cells at the end of mitosis. Replication Forks and Bubbles First, let s understand where DNA replication is happening along the DNA. The whole region of unwound DNA is called the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Manic Episode Regarding whether or not manic episodes can be pleasant, the book states that the episodes can make a person feel completely fearless or angry (Comer 2015). They can experience an exceptional amount of pleasure, more energy, needing less sleep, or increased amount of distress (Comer 2015). So, it seems that people can experience moments of pleasure but to me it seems a little risky. I say that because the person does not know how they will react to a manic episode (Comer 2015). For example, someone could get an enormous amount of energy plus not feeling tired which could allow them to get many things done in that one week or they could experience high amounts of anger and lash out on others. Personally, I would not want to be in a situation where I would have to experience that risk, whether or not it could be pleasurable. Using characters from Diary of a Madman, Ah Q, and an Unimportant Affair, I will explain why this topic stood out to me the most. In Diary of a Madman, the main character is a madman who writes about his delusions and lives with his older brother. Ah Q follows a man who is deemed simply as Ah Q. It describes his hardships, which are brought on by the cruelty of the society, as well as by his own doings. Lastly, in An Unimportant Affair the main character witnesses an event that changes his outlook on life and the society around him and makes him contemplate his motives. In Diary of a Madman, the main character has been locked in a room in his older brother s home. At one point, he claims he hasn t seen the moon in thirty years. • 27. Pop Culture Has Influenced The American Way Pop culture has always influenced the American way. In fact, there is a saying that politics is downstream from culture. What this means is that laws, policies, and guidelines that the government enforces are all influenced by what is being said and done in pop culture. It may be hard to see this example today, but there were certain parts in time where this idea could be easily seen. One of these eras was the 1960s. The 1960s was filled with turbulence. This is because of all of the significant events happening during this time period: the arms race, the space race, the burst of new innovations, and the Cold War. During all of these events, a revolution was beginning in the states. Many people saw what was wrong with the United States, and strived to change it. This is how all sorts of movements began to take place during this time period, like the civil rights movement. All of these movements were to promote social justice. Some pop culture icons of the time voiced their thoughts about this social justice. Three of these icons were influential musicians. These musicians are Janis Joplin, Marvin Gaye, and Bob Dylan. The first of these influential musicians is Janis Joplin. To understand her beliefs and how she became such an inspiration, it is important to look at her upbringing. Janis Joplin was born in Texas in 1943. She was raised in a middle class family during a period of time when racial segregation was prominent. Seeing segregation as an evil that must be gotten ... The first test applied was a gram stain to test for gram positive or gram negative bacteria. The morphology of the two types of bacteria was viewed under the microscope and recorded. Then the sample was put on agar plates using the quadrant streak method for isolation. There were three agar plates; one was incubated at room temperature, the second at 30 degrees Celsius, and the third at 37 degrees Celsius. The Urease test detects the presence of the enzyme urease. This medium contains urea and a pH indicator, phenol red. A bacterium containing urease will produce ammonia, which raises the pH and changes the color of the medium. A positive test shows a color change from a reddish orange to pink. The fourth test used to identify gram negative bacteria is the Simmon s Citrate Utilization test. This test measures a bacteria s ability to use citrate as its sole carbon source for metabolic pathways. This solid medium contains Bromothymol Blue, which serves as a pH indicator. If the bacteria can break down citrate it produces carbon dioxide that reacts with sodium and water, also found in the medium, to produce sodium carbonate. Sodium carbonate elevates the pH causing a color change from green to blue (a positive result). The second bacterium was gram positive. There are three tests that are used to identify gram positive bacteria. The three tests are hemolyses on blood agar, Mannitol fermentation on mannitol salt agar, and the coagulase test using plasma containing serum in coagulase tubes. The test on blood agar tests for a bacteria s ability to hemolyze red blood cells to obtain the iron found in them. There are three types of hemolysis: gamma lysis, alpha lysis, and beta lysis. Gamma lysis is the absence of erythrocyte lysis showing no color change in the blood agar. Alpha lysis is a partial break down of hemoglobin and results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jesus Cleanses a Leper (Matthew 8: v. 1 5): When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed Him. During the nineteenth century, the first two decades were devoted to Romanticism. Literature wasn t the only thing that poured out during this time period, so did the music. People such as Jean Jacques Rousseau, who was an Enlightenment philosopher in the mid eighteenth century, provided the Romantics with ideas on how to express themselves as opposed to what society expected from one. These ideas led people to live an upbeat joyful life rather than a sluggish boring one. However, Romanticism came to be during a time of war, and because of how freely expressive the Romantics were they became know as rebels who went against the rules and regulations. So rebellious that the Romantic composers were experimenting with chords that had been off limits. Germany s Eastern government installed barbed wire and minefields fields along the border of East and West Germany. The film focuses on the story of Michael and how he changes from a respectable, educated Marine to the ringleader of his father s mafia business. In between the drastic turn of events, Michael has two love interests, both of which have a large, yet quiet, impact on his life. Kay Adams, the first of the two love interests, is the average American woman. Kay s relationship with Michael started before the movie and they seem to enjoy a pleasant romance and friendship, but it is put on hold when Michael goes to Sicily to evade charges of a murder he committed.
