NANOTECHNOLOGY
IN CONCRETE:
The using in nanotechnology in concrete,it’s
Improve the bulk peoperties of concrete material and
ability to control manipulate materials at the atomic
scale(alkali silicate reaction),obtain thinner final
products and faster setting time& lower level of
environmental contamination.
Using nano technology in concrete,so it gives concrete
water tightness production(long life durability)surface
production of reinforcement coating.
NANO CONCRETE
A concrete made with Portland cement particles that
less than 500nm cementing agent. & currently cement
particle size range a few range nanometers to a
maximum about100micro meters.
Then the mechanical properties of nanoconcrete such
as compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural
strength respective specimens were tested after 7days
and 28days curing.
Nano concrete is composed of an amorphous phase,
nanometer to micrometer size crystals, and bound water
& the amorophous phase has calcium-silicate-hydrate
“glue”. that holds concrete together and is itself a
nanomaterial.
ROLE OF NANO
PARTICLES IN CONCRETE
The ultra-fine particles are incorporated into mortar
or concrete, that materials with different
characteristics apart from conventional materials
were obtained. The performance of these
cementitious based materials is strongly dependent
on nano-sized solid particles, such as particles of
calcium–silicate–hydrates (C– S–H).
Nanoparticles of SiO2 (nS) can fill the spaces
between particles of gel of C–S–H, acting as a nano-
filler. Furthermore, by the pozzolanic reaction with
calcium hydroxide, the amount of C–S–H increases,
resulting a higher densification of the matrix, which
improves the strength and durability of the material.
IMPACT OF NANO
PARTICLES IN
CONCRETE:
Nano particles of silica tum into the nano particles
cement in the chemical reactions that take place in
the concoction of the concrete.when concrete is
reduce the nano level its properties of concrete
strongly influenced so that increase their strength
and durability.
NANO MATERIALS
IN CONCRETE: Nano materials are defined as a set of substances where
at least one dimension is less than approximately 100
nanometres. Nanomaterial's are of interest because at
this scale unique optical, magnetic, electrical, and other
properties emerge. These emergent properties have the
potential for great impacts in electronics, medicine, and
other fields.
The addition of ultra fine nano material, its will helps to
reduce the cement concrete by partially replacing cement
weight basis improve the binding effects and the ultrafine
nano particles of material will help the reduce the
formation of micropores acting as filler agent, and
producing very dense concrete and automatically reduce
the growth of micro pores in the UHPCstructurs.
There are types of main nanomaterials used in concrete
such like,nano carbon tubes,nano silica,titanium oxide
(Ti02),polycarboxylates,silver nanoparticles.
CARBON NANO TUBES
The Carbon nanotubes are molecular-scale tubes of
graphitic carbon with outstanding properties. They can be
several millimetres in length.
Carbon Nano tubes can of two forms to be used in
concrete such like Single walled carbon Nano tubes
(SWCNT) & Multi walled Carbon Nano tubes (MWCNT).
The use of carbon nano tubes in concrete, because these
tubes are high stiffness of CSH and Reduces porosity of
the CSH phase resulting in crease in Young’s modulus &
increase flexuralstrength,Increase in compressive
Strength and durability of concrete and Autogenous
shrinkageMechanically, CNT appearto be the strongest
material.
(SWCNT)
MWCNT
NANO SILICA
Is the first nano product that replaced the micro silica
Advancement made by the study of concrete at nano scale have
proved nano silica much better than silica used in conventional
concrete.
A Nano sillca in concrete,it’s have some properties are increase
strength flexibility, workability with reduced water cement ratio
& use of super plasticizing additives is unnecessary and fills up
all the micro pores and micro spaces finally Cement saving upto
35-45%.
SUSTAINABILITY OF
NANO SILICA Every day 1 ton of cement produced leads to
about 0.9 tons of CO2 emissions and a typical
cubic yard (0.7643 m3) of concrete contains
about 10% by weight of cement.
As nano-silica is used to replace the cement
partially, the production of cement can be
reduced respectively. Thus Cement can be
saved up to 35 – 45% by incorporating Nano-
silica in the construction field. This paves the
way for effective management of waste and the
reduction of Global warming.
This enable of nanosilica us to make green
concretes which are eco-friendly and
economical.
TITANIUM OXIDE
IN CONCRETE
Titanium dioxide is infused concrete and
cement,Which can remove smog from the
air when exposed to ultraviolet light.
Titanium oxide in concrete have some
properties of Increase the
hydration,Improves compressive strength
& Flexural strength,Enhance the abrasion
resistance and Self cleansing.

HOW TO PREPERED
NANO CONCRETE?
The preparation of nanoconcrete method is
characterized by comprising the steps: mixing
cement, sand, macadam, mineral powder, pulverized
fuel ash, additive and tap water in a certain
proportion of (400-450)sand: (460-530) gravel:(40-
50)slag:(40-50)flyash:(4-7)admixture(polycarboxylic
acid):90 water:(15-20)nanosilica and fully agitating to
obtain the nano concrete.
The invention discloses a nano concrete material
which can obviously increase the pressure
resistance strength and bending resistance strength
of the concrete, and improves the construction
property and endurance quality of the concrete.
Nano cement
ADVANTANGE OF
NANOCONCRETE Low maintenance & reduces the thermal transfer rate.
Increasing the sound absorption of acoustic absorber &
Increasing the reflectivity of glass.
Improve segregation resistance & fix micro cracking
corrosion-resistance & Low life-cycle cost.
Lower cost per building site.
DISADVANTAGE OF NANO CONCRETE
Availability of sources for producing Nano materials is less.
.
Usage of Nano materials in concrete is difficult to replace the materials in
concrete like cement.
Require a lot of energy & expensive Price(Rs1000-2500), nanotubes might
cause a lung problem and the research is in it´s early stage yet
APPLICATIONS OF
NANO CONCRETE It’s contruct Bridges & pipe joining
materials and techniques
Lighter and stronger structural
composites & Reservoirs
It’s mostly used in Waste water
management.
It’s construct roads & applicable
Nano-sensors.
BENEFITS OF
NANO CONCRETE
Cessation of contamination caused by
micro silica solid particles.
Lower cost per building site.
Concrete with high initial and final
compressive and tensile strengths.
Concrete with good workability.
CONCLUSION
Well dispersed nano particles increase the viscosity of the liquid
phase, improves the segregation resistance and workability of the
system.Accelerates the hydration. Better bond between aggregates
and cement paste.
Improves the toughness, shear, tensile strength and flexural strength
of concrete.
conclusion
The researchers found that the calcium-silicate-hydrate nanoparticles were arranged either in a
manner similar to oranges randomly jam-packed in a box or like the pyramidal arrangement of
oranges in a grocery store. With these two arrangements, the particles fill, respectively, 63 and 74
percent of the volume of the cement paste, the rest being water and air. The relative volumes that the
nanoparticles occupy in the paste control the mechanical properties of the cement paste, the
researchers found.
Ulm and Constantinides are now planning to change the components in cement–one idea is to
substitute magnesium for calcium–so that it takes less heat to make cement but the resulting
nanoparticles still have the same packing arrangement as the calcium-silicate-hydrate nanoparticles.

Nanoparticles of SiO2 (nS) can fill the spaces between particles of gel of C–S–H, acting as a nano- filler. Furthermore, by the pozzolanic reaction with calcium hydroxide, the amount of C–S–H increases, resulting a higher densification of the matrix, which improves the strength and durability of the material.

  • 20. conclusion The researchers found that the calcium-silicate-hydrate nanoparticles were arranged either in a manner similar to oranges randomly jam-packed in a box or like the pyramidal arrangement of oranges in a grocery store. With these two arrangements, the particles fill, respectively, 63 and 74 percent of the volume of the cement paste, the rest being water and air. The relative volumes that the nanoparticles occupy in the paste control the mechanical properties of the cement paste, the researchers found. Ulm and Constantinides are now planning to change the components in cement–one idea is to substitute magnesium for calcium–so that it takes less heat to make cement but the resulting nanoparticles still have the same packing arrangement as the calcium-silicate-hydrate nanoparticles.
