Questions On The Origins Of Philosophy
Eren Halliburton 12/1/2016 Problems of Philosophy Research Paper Dr. Hutcherson
The origins of philosophy began with the dynamic question of What if? followed by intellectual
reasoning for the ways of the world. To look past the general purpose of life and the things that
come with it; is when a new philosophy is discovered. The first recorded philosopher came about
early on in the sixth century B.C.E. His name was Thales of Miletus or what is now Turkey. The
first three philosophers, Thales, Anaximander, and Anaximenes, are known as the Milesians
because they all came from the Greek colony of Miletus on the Persian coast and because they
constitute the first school of philosophy. (Pg. 24) However, little is known about Thales due to the
fact, there weren t any pieces of literature connecting to him. However, he did make it known that
everything is fundamentally made up of water. This belief went against the theological perspectives
of Greek mythology, introducing a more scientific view of the cosmos. Thales made it known that
he wanted to find the Arche or unifying principle that linked every aspect of life together.
According to Thales, water is the one and only Arche.
Two of Thales successors and fellow Milesians, Anaximander and Anaximenes based their beliefs
off of Thales philosophy. However, they didn t seem to agree with Thales ideology of everything
being broken down to water. Anaximander completely dismissed the idea of the four primary
elements,

electronic circuits on one little plate ( chip ) of semiconductor material, typically silicon. This could
be made much more diminutive than a discrete circuit produced using free segments. Ics could be
made exceptionally minimal, having up to a few billion transistors and other electronic segments in
a range the span of a fingernail. The width of each one directing line in a circuit might be made
littler and more diminutive as the innovation propels; in 2008 it dropped beneath 100 nanometer,
and now it is many nanometer. Ics were made conceivable by test revelations demonstrating that
semiconductor gadgets could perform the capacities of vacuum tubes and by mid twentieth century
innovation headways in semiconductor gadget creation. The combination of extensive amounts of
modest transistors into a little chip was a colossal change over the manual get together of circuits
utilizing discrete electronic segments. The coordinated circuit s extensive manufactures ability,

The Insanity of the Temporary Insanity Defense Essay
Not Guilty, By reason of Insanity! These words have stung the ears of many courtroom observers,
especially the families and friends of victims whose lives were snuffed out by a so called insane
assailant. While there are indeed many insane people running around the streets today, I feel that
many persons who use the temporary insanity defenseare more conniving than insane. Also, being
an inexact science, the psychiatric community often offers up differing opinions as to any
particular individual s sanity. Furthermore, money or lack thereof can play a major role in the
success or failure of an insanity defense. The temporary insanity defense should therefore be
abolished, especially for felony offenses such as murder. What... Show more content on

Below are listed some of the defenses that have received a great deal of media attention over the
past few years. First, Roid Rage is characterized by severe mood swings related to steroid use.
This defense lessened the sentence of 19 year old Troy Gentzler, who admitted throwing rocks
at cars on the highway injuring several people. Secondly, Black Rage is defined at racial
prejudice induced insanity. Lawyers for Colin Ferguson, the black man who killed five white
people and one Asian American and wounded nineteen others on a Long Island railroad wanted
to use this plea but Ferguson decided to mount his own defense. Next, there s Urban Survival
Syndrome which is described as the fear that inner city black people have of other black people.
A Fort Worth jury ended up deadlock in the case of 19 year old Daimion Osby, a black man who
shot two other unarmed black men in a parking lot. The so called Meek make Syndrome is the
psychological emasculation of the man by his spouse. By using this defense, a man in Los
Angeles had the charge of murder reduced to voluntary manslaughter in the death by beating
(with a wrench) of his wife. His lawyers claimed that she had destroyed his self esteem by
calling him names and forcing him to sleep on the floor. Fetal Trimethadione Syndrome , the

lawyers of a 14 year old boy who beat to death another 14 year old boy. The

Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Atonement with the Nazi Past Essay
Rainer Werner Fassbinder was arguably one of the greatest German directors after World War II.
During his fifteen year career, Fassbinder directed and produced among his other film works 40
full length films. Fassbinder was born in a small Bavarian town, Bad Wörishofen, on May 31,
1945, and died presumably of a drug overdose at the young age of 37 on June 10, 1982. He was
the most prominent German film director, actor and screenwriter in the New German Cinema. He
continued the tradition of great German movies, and dealt with the German Nazi past, the average
person s involvement in the dictatorship and the tendency to suppress the memory of those years
after World War II. The political reality and hard times in the 1920 s helped with

Many directors and actors claimed that they were not involved with the Nazi regime and just did
their work in films, such as Leni Riefenstahl who failed to examine her role critically in the Nazi
regime. Some actors had a difficult time to gain employment for a short while, such as Heinz
RГјhmann, but he achieved success again, as did many actors who were prosperous in the postwar
years in the mostly German market again ( Heinz Ruehmann ). The movies in the 1950 s continued
the tradition of entertainment and many movies were made for pure entertainment of the masses
that wanted to escape their day to day lives. With the occurrence of the economic miracle in the
Ludwig Erhard era, people were busy accumulating wealth yet again and tended to ignore the recent
Nazi past ( It s now Chancellor Erhard ). This premise is what Fassbinder attempted to explore with
his movies, the refusal to deal with the past critically and the concentration on accumulation of
wealth and prosperity, often at the expense of emotional engagement with the fellow humans.
Rainer Werner Fassbinderwas born at the end of the war and grew up in the Wirtschaftswunder
(=economic miracle) in West Germanys conservative Bavaria. Coming from the theater, he was an
accomplished actor and started to direct his first low budget movie Love is Colder than Death in
1969 (Smith). Rainer Werner Fassbinder s work includes film and television, theater, radio plays
and essay writing (Smith).

Rabies Is The Virus And Disease, As Well As Information On...
Purpose
This report will educate the reader on rabies in canines (dogs). It will give the reader a basic
understanding of the virus and disease, as well as information on prevention and treatment.
Background
Rabies is thought to be an endemic in the Arctic, Northern Canada and former regions of the Soviet
Union (NUNAVUT REF). Rabiesis a zoonotic, neuro invasive disease caused by the Rabies
Rhabdovirus Lyssavirus (Merck Veterinary Manual, 2015). The risk of being exposed to rabies is
dependent on a variety of factors, including where an animal goes and what wildlife it comes in
contact with (VET BRIEF REF). The most commonly affected domestic mammals includes dogs,
cattle and cats. The most commonly affected wildlife affected includes foxes, skunks, bats and
raccoons (Merck Veterinary Manual, 2015). If the dog becomes infected, the virus attacks the brain.
This leads to the brain becoming inflamed and then beginning to deteriorate. The deterioration
causes the brain to not function properly, leading to the animal acting abnormal. The abnormal
behaviour results in a variety of signs and symptoms, including aggression (Remedy Health
Media, 2016). Rabies is a federally reportable disease, including all suspect cases. All reports are
investigated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, in a verified rabies laboratory (Government
of Canada, 2016). Rabies is an incredibly important disease for Registered Veterinary Technicians
(RVTs) to be aware of, as it is a common concern

Potassium ( K + ) Channels
Potassium (K+) channels are ubiquitous throughout biological systems as they are found in many
different cell types including prokaryotes, eukaryotes and archaea. (However, for the scope of
this exam, the examples will be limited to K+ channels found in neurons.) They are tetrameric
integral membrane proteins that assemble to form transmembrane aqueous pores. Their basic
function is to allow the passive flow of potassium ions down an electrochemical gradient rapidly
and with high specificity. The high specificity of these channels is crucial in excitable cells such
as neurons as they are able to exclude sodium ions (Na+) despite the sub angstrom difference
between ionic radii, which allows for the establishment of ion gradients as well as a delayed flow
between sodium and potassium ions to shape action potentials. This specificity also allows the
channels to establish and maintain the resting potentialin many cells.
All potassium channels have a distinctive, universal feature of two transmembrane (TM) helices
and a short loop ( P loop ) between them that lines the top of the pore and is responsible for
potassium selectivity. This canonical feature is referred to as 2TM/P. In terms of membrane
topology, there are two broad classes of K+ channels: 1) the two transmembrane helix (2TM/P)
subunit, typical of the inward rectifying (KIR) channels and, 2) the 6 transmembrane helix (6TM/P)
subunit, typical of voltage gated (KV ) subtypes. It must be noted that the 6TM/P

Education Funding For School Districts
How Does the Child s School District Wealth Affect a Child s Education? Educational funding for
school districts is an ongoing war. A war that will be fought till equality is achieved. A school
district s wealth is affected by a number of reasons such as its property wealth, the race of the
people who live there and their socio economic status. Some districts are wealthier than others.
Wealthy districts get more funding than poor districts because they have more property wealthand
people with high socio economic statuses. The wealth of a school district determines how much
resources the school gets and just how much educationthe children in that district receive.
Most school district boundaries are more or less drawn by race and class. The wealthier districts
consisting of predominantly the white race and the poorer districts consisting of the colored
race. An example can be seen in Taylor Van s video Tale of Two Schools: Race and Education on
Long Island . In The Color of Water, the school that James mother applies to is a predominantly
white school with James being the only colored child and only child who wore hand me downs
and clothes from the thrift shop in his class. In the 1960 s, there was still segregation even though
the Brown vs. Board of Education law had been passed in 1954 in an attempt to desegregate the
schools, the schools were still segregated. The schools were still segregated because the boundaries
had been drawn to suit segregation and during

Government Intervention John Micklethwait
Market failures exist when the private enterprise cannot efficiently produce goods and services
arising from externalities, limitation of market, transaction costs and asymmetrical information.
Just as the private sector in the free economy has produced market failures, government intervention
is necessary to address these failures because there is no invisible hand that could instinctively fix
the situation. Mindful of Milton Friedman s disapproval for costly governmentintervention and John
Micklethwait s qualified favor for such public action, my principles of government or nonprofit
intervention are built upon the essence that the government must protect the democratic values of
liberty, equality, equity and public welfare of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inherently, self interest motivates market producers to pursue their economic goal of profit
maximization even at the expense of their competitors, an illustration of prisoner s dilemma.
Businesses have used production inputs that permanently damaged common natural resources such
as petroleum reserves, earth s atmosphere and biodiversity. Other effects include global warming
and depleted resources for future generations. Privatization of the common pool goods does not
guarantee that the market can avert the phenomenon. The government will have to inevitably
assign specific property rights over renewable natural resources. Alternatively, the state can also
adopt policies that encourage private enterprise or individuals to develop or use green energies as
alternative to the traditional energy sources in the case of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Lastly, the government can complement with nonprofits in implementing programs that address
market failures. Nonprofits are not bounded by profit distribution thereby facilitating them to adopt
missions to sustain social value and continuously pursue opportunities to innovate, learn and adapt.
As an example, World Wildlife Fund has a mission of environmental conservation and implements
activities to protect the global natural

Essay on Haimons Covert Scheme
Haimon has a certain tendency to be overlooked in Sophocles Antigone. At first he appears to be
a minor character, an accessory to the overt conflict occurring between Kreon and Antigone. We
see Haimon supporting his father, but soon thereafter in conflict with him. Haimon expresses
disregard for the life of his cold bride to be, yet is defined as being driven by lust. Several questions
come up: who does Haimon really support, what driveshis actions, and what is his ultimate intent?
Unravelingthese issues is a tricky task, but what we find is Haimon is far more than an accessory.
Haimon is introduced in third person, making his character easily overlooked and marginalized ...

Soon thereafter the pace of conversation heats up; attacks are short, blatant, and poignant.
Haimon clears the air, saying in justice I san see that you are wrong (743). The most revealing
statement is [Kreon] There is no way that you will marry her alive! [Haimon] Then she will die,
in death destroying someone else! (750). The third choral ode follows implying that Eros, the god
of passionate desire, rules Haimon. This is commonly interpreted as passion for Antigone, but that
makes little sense. Until this point, no affection has been expressed between Haimon and Antigone,
just as this does not appear to be affection. Before being led to her death, Antigone says No
wedding hymn is my lot; no marriage song sung for me (814). Its important to realize that
Antigone doesn t express regret that she will not be married to Haimon, or the breaking of their
betrothal, just that she will never be married in general. As Kreon stated and Haimon probably
also knew, there are other plots of land for [Haimon] to plow (569). Antigone doesn t express loss
specific to Haimon, and Haimon likely recognizes Antigone as a commodity. Given this
information, is it a sound conclusion that Haimon s passion is for Antigone, or that something else
drives him?
The chorus is right, Eros drives Haimon, but where is that

allowed the civilization to grow as large as sixty separate kingdoms. Other technological advances
also took place during this time.
They developed their writing system, mathematics, astronomy, and calendars. Their study of
astronomy allowed them to predict when there would be a solar or lunar eclipse. They also
developed their calendar that is called the Long Count Calendar. The Long Count Calendar was not
completely a Mayan creation because they inherited the basic form from the Toltec.
The mathematics developed by the Maya was a base 20 numbering system. This is similar to the
base 10 system we use today. The Maya were able to do this using only three symbols, the dot, the
bar, and a symbol for zero.
The numbering system was written vertically instead of horizontally like the one we use today.
The base level can be represented by 20^0, and each additional level increases the exponent by
one. This is shown in the graphic below.
The Mayan calendar has a starting date of 3113BC that is given the year 0. It used their base 20
numbering system to represent periods of time. There

Perspectives On Wellbeing And Genuine Progress Indicator...
Rethinking What Counts. Perspectives on Wellbeing and Genuine Progress Indicator Metrics from
a Canadian Viewpoint Wilson Tyedmers (2013) discuss how recently the economic growth model
has been criticized, which has lead to rethinking how economic success and social wellbeing are
measured. Improved metrics have aimed to integrate social, environmental, and human welfare in
order to properly account for potential costs of economic growth (Wilson Tyedmers, 2013). Wilson
Tyedmers (2013) discuss the attempt to improve macroeconomic metrics and indicators with focus
on the Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) drawing on Canadian examples. GPIs adjust the GDP

Making adjustments to these methods and communicating their importance in an efficient way
are going to be important in the future to get more individuals behind the idea. I do question
alternatives to GDP because not everyone weighs things the same when it comes to wellbeing
therefore the use of these methods nationally or even locally might be unjustifiable. A theoretical
foundation to support the Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare (ISEW), Genuine Progress
Indicator (GPI), and other related indexes Lawn (2003) describes that ecological economists
have developed alternative indexes due to the inadequacy of GDP as a measure of human
progress, which can be use to measure and compare the benefits and costs of growth. These
alternatives to GDP such as the Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare (ISEW) and Genuine
Progress Indicator (GPI) support the threshold hypothesis but they have faced criticism based on
lack of theoretical foundation (Lawn, 2003). Lawn (2003) compares GDP, the Sustainable Net
Benefit Index (SNBI), and ISEW/GPI to the concept of income and capital as outlined by Fisher
(1906) to argue that macroeconomic alternative indexes are theoretically sound. The Fisherian view
believes economic welfare depends on psychic enjoyment of life and not on production or
consumption rate (Lawn,

Film Adaptation In Ray Bradbury s The Pedestrian
The Pedestrian The PBS article, on film adaptation, discusses the difference between written text
and film and the struggle of adapting a book into a movie. Statistically, 65 percent of all novels
are adapted into a film. Stories and novels rely on the narrator to tell the story whereas, films don
t usually have a narrator. Films tend to be way shorter then a novel or story because one frame
can be worth six pages of description. Films have a pro side and a con side, one con is that a film
takes away your own personal perception while with any written literature, one has their own
perception of a certain scenario, what a character looks like, etc. Unlike written literacy, a film has

The film adaptation of the short story The Pedestrian have many similarities and differences. The
film adaptation and the short story had a bad connection. In the short story, the story had
narration whereas the film had a second character. Having a second character changed the theme
because in the short story he is isolated from society while having a second character in the film
he has friendship. If narration were to be used in the film, one could infer that Leonard Mead is
lonely, odd, and isolated from society because he is the only one that walks. Also, in the short
story, the other theme is that in the future, humanity is hopeless and will be unsocial. In the film,
Leonard was able to get his friend, Bob, away from the TV and go on a walk with him. By being
able to persuade Bob to go on a walk, the film s version is hopeful for the future. The film
adaptation messed up the theme that Rad Bradbury was trying to get

Essay On Quick Loans
Why Quick Loans Aren t Necessarily the Best Option Why Quick Loans Aren t Necessarily the
Best Option
Quick loans are generally short term loans for relatively small amounts. These loans are often
paid back on the borrower s next payday, but sometimes, lenders off them as installment loans that
can be paid back over a longer period. Regardless of the exact terms, most fast loans charge higher
rates of interest for the convenience of your getting your money quickly with a simpler
application and less red tape. Although these loans can be easy to get and give families an

Investopedia.com recommends first exploring any options that don t require borrowing when you
need an infusion of cash. However, any alternative with a lower interest rate is better than a quick,
high interest loan. Short term loans can often seem to be a bargain because the relatively short
financing period generates only small dollar amounts of total interest even though the rates are
high. The real problem arises when borrowers roll over their loans or get multiple loans to cover
their debts. Investopedia recommends considering the following additional alternatives:
Life Insurance Loan
Whole life insurance policies often allow policyholders to borrow against a policy s benefit.

Online resources offer budgeting assistance, ways to reduce expenses, financial education and
ways to rebuild your credit score so that you could qualify for a loan with a lower interest rate.

Stereotypes And Prejudice Essay
How does this work?
At first I had to distinguish the difference between a stereotype and being prejudice. According
to the authors of our text Sensoy and DiAngelo, prejudice is a learned prejudgment about
members of social groups to which we don t belong. It is also based on limited knowledge about
a group of people. Judgments are made based on these prejudices and applied to everyone in a
social group. The learned prejudgment that our authors are talking about is what is referred to as a
stereotype. A stereotype is a belief about a certain group of people, while prejudiceis a feeling based
on their membership to a certain group with a stereotype.

One of our assignments assigned in the course called the Funds of Knowledge I believe is a way

knowledge to minimize the effect that our stereotypes in our classroom.
What explicit and implicit valuing of certain groups (p. 30) do you notice in your school or
elsewhere? Are there social benefits and penalties associated with them?
I don t know if I see a lot of explicit valuing of any group of students at my school. I know through
the Positive Behavior Intervention Support initiative explicit praise is given for following
procedures and meeting expectations.
I think I see more implicit valuing being done. This could be in the form of using stereotypes of
social groups when it comes to dealing with parents. I have heard teachers talking about parents
and placing them in stereotypes before getting to know them. An example would be oh yeah my

The Fifth Amendment From The 5th Amendment
5th Amendment The 5th Amendment in the Bill of Rights guarantees protection from self
incrimination. If there were no Fifth Amendment, there would be self incriminating clause
issues, such as: every time you are charged with a crime, you would be interrogated with no right
remain silent; whenever law enforcement desires to subpoena your personal records, you would
have no right to assert a claim against self incrimination; a refusal to testify on the grounds of
self incrimination could be punished as a crime; confessions obtained through custodial
interrogation would, in many circumstances, become admissible [there would be little, if any,
deterrent to harsh interrogation techniques]; prosecutors could ask juries to draw an inference
of guilt from a defendant s failure to testify. A case that comes from the 5th amendment is
Miranda vs. Arizona , which took place in 1966 [the case from which the Miranda Rights were
composed]. This case involved an $8.00 theft and a twenty year prison sentence. Ernesto
Miranda was arrested for theft and interrogated by police for two hours when he confessed that
he had kidnapped and raped a woman a few days earlier. Miranda was not aware that he was
allowed to have an attorney present during questioning nor that he had the right to remain silent. He
was convicted based off of his confession; therefore, he was sentenced to twenty years in prison.

Ancient Greek Art And Its Impact On Ancient Greece
Ancient Greek art has been one of the most influential art forms in the past centuries. The Keros
sculptures predominantly stand out while referring to the ancient Greek scluptures and art. The
Keros sculptures were carved purely out of marble and were a form of Cycladic art that was created
in a small island called Cycladesin 2600 2400 B.C. The Cycladic Islands of Greece are set in the
Aegean Sea. The ancient Greeks called these islands the kyklades, a scattered kyklos, or circle, of
islands around the holy island and sanctuary of Apollo, Delos.
The very first Keros sculpture was founded in the year 1963 by Lord Renfrew. The only unfortunate
event that occurred during excavation was that almost none of these Keros sculptures were found
in their complete form. Only fragments of these sculptures remained. It has been noticed, that all
through history, the Keros scultpures have been incrediblly difficult to analyze and interpret due to
lack of background information and it s obvious missing parts. An abudance of myths surround
these sculptures since Ancient Greece is also known for its devotion to Greek mythology. The
significance, use, and meaning of the figures are unclear. There is even debate about whether the
figures were meant to lie flat or to stand against a wall there is no definitive evidence either way.
Numerous explanations about the significance of the figurines have been proposed: the figurines

The movie Good Night, and Good Luck portrays what I believe to be one of the main hardships
broadcast journalists face, which is voicing out the truth. This movie amazes me on how much

Myasthenia Gravis Essay
What is Myasthenia gravis ?
Myasthenia gravis is considered as one of the most important common neuromuscular disorders.
Although it is categorized as a neuromuscular disease , there are few other factors other than
acquired immunological abnormality , like genetic abnormality in neuromuscular junction , and
some relations to thymus diseases and cancers.
Myasthenia gravis presents clinically in a variety of ways, with varied symptoms that make it
difficult to diagnose it in initial stages.
As MG became the subject of interest to neurologists mostly in the past years , however it is still
categorized as an autoimmune disease , and much about pathophysiology and immunopathology of
MG has been learned in the past 20 years.
The origin of the autoimmune dysfunction in MG patients is unknown, but thymic abnormalities,
defects in immune regulation and sex hormones play major roles in patients with anti AChR
antibodies. Genetic predisposition is also likely to influence the occurrence of the disease as
mentioned above.
Pathogenesis And Factors :
Autoimmune factors :
As mentioned previously , MG is mostly considered as an acquired autoimmune disease of the
neuromuscular junction. The autoimmune system mostly attacks the nicotinic acetylcholine
receptors located in the postsynaptic endplate membrane.
In MG, the postsynaptic muscle membrane is distorted and simplified, having lost its normal folded
shape, the concentration of acetylcholine receptors on the muscle

The only way out for someone in the Matrix, was to be freed, by someone not directly plugged in.
For example when Morpheus offered the red and blue pills, he was essentially giving Neo his first
ever taste of free will because Morpheus was not directly plugged in, making him exempt from the
Architects control.
The Orwellian society as shown in the Matrix also shows us where we may be heading. Today we
are seeing technology advance at a faster and faster pace. The ways in which they gather
personal information are growing at an even quicker rate. News Companies, such as Seven
News, are creating applications so they can now cheaply distribute the latest news (Propaganda)
straight to people who have downloaded their application. Rupert Murdock has taken things
further using social media sites like Facebook to distribute news at an even cheaper price. This
allows people to like his company s Facebook page then the news his thoughts will be on their
Facebook wall every day. As long as the human brains decisions rely on outside information such
as news, there may never be free will .
The play Frankenstein shows, written by Mary Shelly, shows the early stages of technology and
how it changes individualism. Frankenstein goes against social norm and tries to make life or as
others called it Playing God . Frankenstein neglects what he had created because he expected his
creation to look like an angel.

Use of Persuasive Argument in 12 Angry Men Essay
The movie 12 Angry Men examines the dynamics at play in a United States jury room in the
1950 s. It revolves around the opinions and mindsets of twelve diverse characters that are tasked
with pronouncing the guilt or innocence of a young man accused of patricide. The extraordinary
element is that their finding will determine his life or death. This play was made into a movie in
1957, produced by Henry Fonda who played the lead role, Juror #8, and Reginald Rose who wrote
the original screenplay. This essay will explore some of the critical thinking elements found within
the context of this movie, and will show that rational reason and logic when used effectively can
overcome the mostly ineffective rush to judgment that can be prevalent in... Show more content on

The old man gave evidence that he heard the boy say I ll kill you from his apartment below and
that he saw the boy running from the down the stairs from the apartment after rising from his
bedroom. The old lady saw the boy kill his father through her window, whilst a train was passing.
Juror #8 analyses each of these points and makes credible arguments that the conclusion is
flawed based on incorrect reasoning, by pointing out inconsistencies in the conclusions reached.
The other jurors are content to believe that their reasoning is solid, as they have used examples
of deductive reasoning to reach their conclusion. Juror #3 gives his reasons for reaching the
conclusion that It s quite clear that the boy never went to the movies that night, returned home
and killed his father with the knife as identified in Court (Fonda Lumet, 1957). Until Juror #8
takes out a similar knife and poses the question that it was possible that another knife was used,
Juror #7 calls it a million to one however Juror #8 persists in saying it was possible. He also uses
this analysis method to cast aspersions on the second point and third points raised by systematically
analyzing each component. During the course of the debate within the jury room Juror #8
summarizes the evidence presented and the conclusions drawn by his fellow jurors, by asking
questions. He analyzes the content, by breaking down the component parts and analyzing each

Military Draft In Vietnam War
Max Smith
Essay
The Vietnam War was between 1954 and 1975. We did not have enough people in the military, so
there was conscription which is most commonly called a draft. A draft is the mandatory
enrollment of male individuals into the armed forces. The government maintains the ability to start
a draft in case of a national emergency. The Selective Service System is responsible for the draft.
The U.S. military drafted 2.2 million American men out of an eligible pool of 27 million.
There were over 58,000 military fatal casualties in the VietnamWar. Many soldiers did support the
war. Others felt the draft was a death sentence. They were being sent to a war and fight for a
cause that they did not believe in. Many people were scared to die for something they did not
believe in. People who did not want to go to war and evaded the government were ... Show more

It is not fair that all men are required to register at age eighteen. The draft is gender biased All
male citizens between ages 18 and 25 must register. An autonomous and gender neutral draft will
help increase insight and expectations of what women can do in the military and promote
equality. 27 million men in the military pool and 2.2 million were drafted in the Vietnam War.
Women were clerks or nurses. Eliminating any gender based assignment restrictions or draft will
improve our military s readiness and ability to recruit and retain the most effective and qualified
people. The military needs lawyers, dentists, doctors and IT professionals. They also need
intelligence analysts, police officers, and trained fighters women or not. Equality means the state
of being equal, especially in status, rights and opportunities. This means sharing burdens as well as
shared opportunities. Women are just as capable and just as willing to stand up and defend the
rights we ve earned in combat or support at

Essay about E Science Lab 9
Procedure 1
1) The substrate for this procedure was hydrogen peroxide. The enzyme used (contained in the
yeast) would have most likely been catalase.
2) Yes, the rate of gas production increased as more yeast was added, since more enzyme was able
to convert hydrogen peroxide more quickly.
3) Adding less enzyme caused the reaction to proceed more slowly than when more enzyme was
utilized.
4) It is likely that the rate of reaction would increase as substrate is added. It will probably follow
classical michaelis menten kinetics. See the attached picture for an example of this scheme for the
rates (the picture of the hyperbola is the rate vs. the substrate concentration).
5) Hydrogen peroxide can be safely broken down into water ... Show more content on

For my negative controls I would run the reaction in several separate ways. First, omit the substrate
(to make sure the enzyme is only acting on hydrogen peroxide and not something else in the
mixture). Second, omit the enzyme (to make sure it s not self catalyzed breakdown). Third, I would
incubate substrate with an unrelated protein like albumin (to make sure it s not just the presence of
protein that mediates the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide).
6) See attached for the graph. Correlation appears to be negative with this data. It appears like the
high temperature caused the enzyme to become denatured.
Procedure 3
1) Amylase is utilized to break down starch molecules into more simple sugars for use by the body.
It performs this function by hydrolyzing glycosidic linkages in the polysaccharide chain.
2) The control here was to use a solution containing no starch to show that it was the presence of
starch itself that was needed for the reaction to proceed and not something inherent in the liquid or
the towel itself.
Saliva was used as a positive control for the presence of amylase.
3) Waiting 5 minutes allowed the enzymatic reaction to proceed for sufficient time and break down
the starch.
4) I cannot answer this question with the information presented, but it should be pretty
straightforward to say which foods

Dunkleosteus
In modern popular culture, Dunkleosteus is by far the best known and most often represented of
the early placoderm carnivores. However Dunkleosteus actually sat within the Dinichthys genus for
a long time as the species Dinichthys terrelli. It was not until the large numbers of Dinichthys
remains were re studied that it was realised that a large number of the Dinichthys fossils actually
represented different genera, not species. The result was that many of these remains were split to
form new genera including the creation of Dunkleosteus. In a further twist however, the species that
was split to form Dunkleosteus, D. terrelli, was actually the remains most often used when
reconstructing Dinichthys. Along with the equally giant Titanichthys,... Show more content on

With the heavy plates around the head, Dunkleosteus was probably not a fast swimmer, but still
would have had powerful muscles developed from just swimming around with the weight. This
meant that Dunkleosteus either preferred slower prey, or used ambush tactics to try and take its
prey off guard. Another thing to consider is that the jaws of Dunkleosteus, and probably other
similar placoderms, could open exceptionally fast within a fraction of a second. This would create
a sudden void inside the mouth of Dunkleosteus, creating a vacuum that sucked the water and the
prey that was swimming in it into its mouth. This means that Dunkleosteus did not have to
physically catch its prey, just get close enough to open its mouth. Larger Dunkleosteus seemed to
have preferred other placoderm fish perhaps like Bothriolepis that was very common at the time.
Once caught, Dunkleosteus could use its sharp jaws to cut up prey, but it seems that only the
softer and more easily digestible flesh was desired. When Dunkleosteus fossils are found, they are
often found in association with fish boluses. A bolus is a ball of remains that has been chewed and
swallowed, but the remains in connection with Dunkleosteus are of only bones that already seem to
have been partially digested. This indicates that Dunkleosteus may have spat out parts that were too
hard for it to digest completely, a precedent that is known in numerous other

The Literary Modernism Time Period
The literary modernism time period was a movement in literature that started in the early 1890s
and was very eventful. During this era there were many considerable events taking place such as
The Great War (also known as World War One ), which started in 1914. This War lasted for four
years and finally ended in 1918, but its effects lasted much longer. The financial instability of
Europe and death caused by this First World War gave people a sense of patriotism that unified
them. It made people think of not only the society as a whole, but themselves as individuals (

The Importance Of Sanitation In Armall
Lack of solid waste collection and poor drainage combined with lack of safe pit latrines brings up
poor hygiene conditions in Armall. Therefore, the inadequate sanitation and hygiene practices in
Armall resulted in morbidity and mortality due to endemic infections, which cause diarrhoea and
other illnesses. Sanitation in Armall was severely neglected by both the service utility and the
households because some people in Armall were using open defecation, others used plastic bags as
toilets and others did the defecation in streets. Lack of water and sanitation in Armall has a serious
effect on the people s health, which has also created povertyto most households. As a nation, what
should be born in our minds is that poor environmental health

Unity of effort imperative is the definition of the coordination and cooperation of the Joint Forces
toward common objectives. Unity of Effort is the integration and synchronization of the Joint
Forces with the purpose of optimizing their logistic processes and capabilities. This imperative
requires an effective understanding of the process and procedures in order to all partners involved

Essay on Art Formal Analysis
Art Formal Analysis Examining the formal qualities of Homer Watson s painting Horse and
Rider In A Landscape was quite interesting. I chose to analyze this piece as apposed to the others
because it was the piece I liked the least, therefore making me analyze it more closely and discover
other aspects of the work, besides aesthetics.
The texture of the canvas works very well with the subject matter portrayed in the painting. The
grassy hill side and the leaves of the trees are especially complimented by the canvas. It makes the
leaves feel like they are slightly moving, this combined with the lack of detail itself the leaves. This
is contrasted nicely with the very detailed renderings of the trunks and branches of the trees, the ...

Perspective lines occur also in the background of the painting in the upper right in the trees getting
smaller as they descend into the painting. This painting is an example of linear perspective. All lines
converge at a vanishing point.
At first sight the house in the middle ground appears to be the destination of the rider, but the use of
linear perspective suggests that something else is important beyond the house and the green hill.
This painting appears to take place either at either dusk or dawn, when the sun is at the horizon.
Likely it is dusk, as the setting appears to be in the Northern Hemisphere and the snow in the
picture residing on the left hand side of fence would suggest it has yet to melt, so the sun would
be setting in the west, or on the right. So the viewer, as well as the subject, is facing south. This
affects the painting in several ways. The lighting is very dramatic, the middle ground being very
much more lighted than the foreground and background, therefore the colors are more saturated
than the foreground and background. Greens, browns and greys are used a lot in this piece and
makes it very muddy. The house really does stand out against the painting because of the contrast of
lighting.
The piece is pretty balanced, it is more or less partitioned into four parts by the strong horizontal
line in the middle and the road meeting with the edge of the forest vertically, the lighter areas in the
top right and bottom left,

To Be True to Yourself in a World That Is Constantly...
To be true to yourself in a world that is constantly making you something else is a great achievement
All of us possess qualities that differentiate us from other human beings. These distinguishing
features could be more or less highlighted in appearance, mindset or capabilities, but they will
always persist and determine the nature of our personality. Unfortunately these characteristic
attributes are deteriorating as humanity is moulding us into the perfect person influencing us to
stray away from who we are (our so called insignificant selves) to what is desirable (a flawless
model). Staying true to yourself means to stick to what you believe in and being whom you were

The girls reading teen magazines begin to digest and trust the message that they are only sexual

Peer pressure is the influence exerted by a social group or an individual, encouraging other
persons to change their attitudes, values, or behaviours in order to conform to group norms. Peer
pressure is most commonly associated with youth, in part because most youth spend large
amounts of time in schools and other fixed groups that they do not choose and are seen as
lacking the maturity to handle pressure from friends. Peer pressure can also have positive effects
when people are pressured toward positive behaviour, such as volunteering for charity or excelling
in academics or athletics, by their peers. However Risk taking behaviour is seemingly the most
common as these same people engage in

Informative Speech On Life On Mars
I.Introduction
A.Attention getter: Have you ever just gazed at the night sky and looked at the stars and thought
to yourself Is there life on other planets such as, Mars? Then, you begin to think if NASA will hire
you after you applied 20 years ago.
B.Speaker Credibility: When I took an astronomy course at USC, my class was getting into life on
Mars. At the moment of my semester, NASA discovered water on Mars. This was a discovery that
caught my attention therefore, decided to speak about it.
C.Thematic Statement: Today I will speak and explain if it is possible for Mars to contain life.
D.Preview Statement: The possibility of life on mars is an extravagant topic to look at. Before
that, we must analyze Mars itself along with its conditions. First, we will talk about the ice caps
located on Mars. Second, we will examine the water streaks on Mars. Third we will observe if the
red planet is inhabitable for humans to conquer it.
II.Body
A.Main Point 1: Us humans have overpopulated the earth and will continue to grow if actions
aren t took. We had a population approximate to 7.4 billion people living on earth in 2016. It
takes about 40 years to increase the population by 3 billion. Earth can only hold 10 billion people
max. Therefore, we will overpopulate the earth around 2040. We need to conquer another planet
however, not all planets have the basic elements to sustain life.
B.Main Point 1: One of our discoveries were the polar ice caps on Mars.
1.Supporting Material: Jpl.nasa.gov. released an article titled Mars Ice Deposit Holds as Much
Water as Lake Superior on November 22, 2016 stating that, Frozen beneath a region of cracked
and pitted plains on Mars lies about as much water as what s in Lake Superior, (largest of the Great
Lakes}.
2.Speaker s idea: Lake Superior has enough water to cover North America or South America. This
means that the ice on Mars can cover a huge wide span when it is melted. In addition, when the ice
on mars melts it can help create an atmosphere for Mars.
1.Supporting Material: The article published on space.com titled Red Planet Heats Up: Ice Age
Ending on Mars written on May 26, 2016 states, Mars can tilt more than Earth, causing the Red

Hypothesis and Research Question Essay example
Research questions are formulated in a study to inquire about variables, both independent and
dependent variables, and the relationship between them. Research questions are categorized into
two, that is, qualitative and quantitative research questions. Qualitative questions are used in
qualitative research like case studies, surveys and action researchwhere the approach is non
numerical and analyses special phenomena that occur in nature. Quantitative research on the other
hand is more of a systematic approach with measurable numerical quantities that go through
analysis to prove a hypothesis. Finally, the research hypothesis is either approved or disapproved

It must be logical, and provide a concrete base for any differences between the variables. It must
also be simple and clear.
A hypothesis can state the following: there exists a positive relationship between employee
performance and flexible working hours. Whereas a research question could generally be: do
flexible working hours affect workers productivity? You can clearly see that the hypothesis states
clearly and it is more specific in its prediction unlike the research question (eNotes.com, Inc 2011).
Hypothesis is typically used in quantitative research only. Moreover, when a question poses an
inquiry on the relationship between two variables, a hypothesis is a statement declarative in nature
of the relationship between different variables (Pajares 2007). A researcher chooses whether to use
a question or a hypothesis depending on the purpose of the research, its objectives, the methodology
for the research and the preference of the audience to receive the research. A researcher must be
able to interpret the final outcome with reference to the research questions or the hypothesis used
(Pajares 2007). A research requires a minimum of two hypotheses namely a null and an alternative
hypothesis.
So, somebody can make a certain observation and come up with a hypothesis about how and why a
phenomenon occurs the way it is. Hypothesis could be

Questions On The Origins Of Philosophy Eren Halliburton 12/1/2016 Problems of Philosophy Research Paper Dr. Hutcherson The origins of philosophy began with the dynamic question of What if? followed by intellectual reasoning for the ways of the world. To look past the general purpose of life and the things that come with it; is when a new philosophy is discovered. The first recorded philosopher came about early on in the sixth century B.C.E. His name was Thales of Miletus or what is now Turkey. The first three philosophers, Thales, Anaximander, and Anaximenes, are known as the Milesians because they all came from the Greek colony of Miletus on the Persian coast and because they constitute the first school of philosophy. (Pg. 24) However, little is known about Thales due to the fact, there weren t any pieces of literature connecting to him. However, he did make it known that everything is fundamentally made up of water. This belief went against the theological perspectives of Greek mythology, introducing a more scientific view of the cosmos. Thales made it known that he wanted to find the Arche or unifying principle that linked every aspect of life together. According to Thales, water is the one and only Arche. Two of Thales successors and fellow Milesians, Anaximander and Anaximenes based their beliefs off of Thales philosophy. However, they didn t seem to agree with Thales ideology of everything being broken down to water. Anaximander completely dismissed the idea of the four primary elements, ... These words have stung the ears of many courtroom observers, especially the families and friends of victims whose lives were snuffed out by a so called insane assailant. While there are indeed many insane people running around the streets today, I feel that many persons who use the temporary insanity defenseare more conniving than insane. Also, being an inexact science, the psychiatric community often offers up differing opinions as to any particular individual s sanity. Furthermore, money or lack thereof can play a major role in the success or failure of an insanity defense. The temporary insanity defense should therefore be abolished, especially for felony offenses such as murder. What... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, Black Rage is defined at racial prejudice induced insanity. Lawyers for Colin Ferguson, the black man who killed five white people and one Asian American and wounded nineteen others on a Long Island railroad wanted to use this plea but Ferguson decided to mount his own defense. Next, there s Urban Survival Syndrome which is described as the fear that inner city black people have of other black people. A Fort Worth jury ended up deadlock in the case of 19 year old Daimion Osby, a black man who shot two other unarmed black men in a parking lot. The so called Meek make Syndrome is the psychological emasculation of the man by his spouse. By using this defense, a man in Los Angeles had the charge of murder reduced to voluntary manslaughter in the death by beating (with a wrench) of his wife. His lawyers claimed that she had destroyed his self esteem by calling him names and forcing him to sleep on the floor. Many directors and actors claimed that they were not involved with the Nazi regime and just did their work in films, such as Leni Riefenstahl who failed to examine her role critically in the Nazi regime. Some actors had a difficult time to gain employment for a short while, such as Heinz RГјhmann, but he achieved success again, as did many actors who were prosperous in the postwar years in the mostly German market again ( Heinz Ruehmann ). The movies in the 1950 s continued the tradition of entertainment and many movies were made for pure entertainment of the masses that wanted to escape their day to day lives. With the occurrence of the economic miracle in the Ludwig Erhard era, people were busy accumulating wealth yet again and tended to ignore the recent Nazi past ( It s now Chancellor Erhard ). This premise is what Fassbinder attempted to explore with his movies, the refusal to deal with the past critically and the concentration on accumulation of wealth and prosperity, often at the expense of emotional engagement with the fellow humans. Rainer Werner Fassbinderwas born at the end of the war and grew up in the Wirtschaftswunder (=economic miracle) in West Germanys conservative Bavaria. Coming from the theater, he was an accomplished actor and started to direct his first low budget movie Love is Colder than Death in 1969 (Smith). • 11. Rabies Is The Virus And Disease, As Well As Information On... Purpose This report will educate the reader on rabies in canines (dogs). It will give the reader a basic understanding of the virus and disease, as well as information on prevention and treatment. Background Rabies is thought to be an endemic in the Arctic, Northern Canada and former regions of the Soviet Union (NUNAVUT REF). Rabiesis a zoonotic, neuro invasive disease caused by the Rabies Rhabdovirus Lyssavirus (Merck Veterinary Manual, 2015). The risk of being exposed to rabies is dependent on a variety of factors, including where an animal goes and what wildlife it comes in contact with (VET BRIEF REF). The most commonly affected domestic mammals includes dogs, cattle and cats. The most commonly affected wildlife affected includes foxes, skunks, bats and raccoons (Merck Veterinary Manual, 2015). If the dog becomes infected, the virus attacks the brain. This leads to the brain becoming inflamed and then beginning to deteriorate. The deterioration causes the brain to not function properly, leading to the animal acting abnormal. The abnormal behaviour results in a variety of signs and symptoms, including aggression (Remedy Health Media, 2016). Rabies is a federally reportable disease, including all suspect cases. All reports are investigated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, in a verified rabies laboratory (Government of Canada, 2016). Rabies is an incredibly important disease for Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) to be aware of, as it is a common concern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Potassium ( K + ) Channels Potassium (K+) channels are ubiquitous throughout biological systems as they are found in many different cell types including prokaryotes, eukaryotes and archaea. (However, for the scope of this exam, the examples will be limited to K+ channels found in neurons.) They are tetrameric integral membrane proteins that assemble to form transmembrane aqueous pores. Their basic function is to allow the passive flow of potassium ions down an electrochemical gradient rapidly and with high specificity. The high specificity of these channels is crucial in excitable cells such as neurons as they are able to exclude sodium ions (Na+) despite the sub angstrom difference between ionic radii, which allows for the establishment of ion gradients as well as a delayed flow between sodium and potassium ions to shape action potentials. This specificity also allows the channels to establish and maintain the resting potentialin many cells. All potassium channels have a distinctive, universal feature of two transmembrane (TM) helices and a short loop ( P loop ) between them that lines the top of the pore and is responsible for potassium selectivity. This canonical feature is referred to as 2TM/P. In terms of membrane topology, there are two broad classes of K+ channels: 1) the two transmembrane helix (2TM/P) subunit, typical of the inward rectifying (KIR) channels and, 2) the 6 transmembrane helix (6TM/P) subunit, typical of voltage gated (KV ) subtypes. It must be noted that the 6TM/P ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Education Funding For School Districts How Does the Child s School District Wealth Affect a Child s Education? Educational funding for school districts is an ongoing war. A war that will be fought till equality is achieved. A school district s wealth is affected by a number of reasons such as its property wealth, the race of the people who live there and their socio economic status. Some districts are wealthier than others. Wealthy districts get more funding than poor districts because they have more property wealthand people with high socio economic statuses. The wealth of a school district determines how much resources the school gets and just how much educationthe children in that district receive. Most school district boundaries are more or less drawn by race and class. The wealthier districts consisting of predominantly the white race and the poorer districts consisting of the colored race. An example can be seen in Taylor Van s video Tale of Two Schools: Race and Education on Long Island . In The Color of Water, the school that James mother applies to is a predominantly white school with James being the only colored child and only child who wore hand me downs and clothes from the thrift shop in his class. In the 1960 s, there was still segregation even though the Brown vs. Board of Education law had been passed in 1954 in an attempt to desegregate the schools, the schools were still segregated. Government Intervention John Micklethwait Market failures exist when the private enterprise cannot efficiently produce goods and services arising from externalities, limitation of market, transaction costs and asymmetrical information. Just as the private sector in the free economy has produced market failures, government intervention is necessary to address these failures because there is no invisible hand that could instinctively fix the situation. This is commonly interpreted as passion for Antigone, but that makes little sense. Until this point, no affection has been expressed between Haimon and Antigone, just as this does not appear to be affection. Before being led to her death, Antigone says No wedding hymn is my lot; no marriage song sung for me (814). Its important to realize that Antigone doesn t express regret that she will not be married to Haimon, or the breaking of their betrothal, just that she will never be married in general. As Kreon stated and Haimon probably also knew, there are other plots of land for [Haimon] to plow (569). Antigone doesn t express loss specific to Haimon, and Haimon likely recognizes Antigone as a commodity. These alternatives to GDP such as the Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare (ISEW) and Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI) support the threshold hypothesis but they have faced criticism based on lack of theoretical foundation (Lawn, 2003). The Keros sculptures predominantly stand out while referring to the ancient Greek scluptures and art. The Keros sculptures were carved purely out of marble and were a form of Cycladic art that was created in a small island called Cycladesin 2600 2400 B.C. The Cycladic Islands of Greece are set in the Aegean Sea. The ancient Greeks called these islands the kyklades, a scattered kyklos, or circle, of islands around the holy island and sanctuary of Apollo, Delos. The very first Keros sculpture was founded in the year 1963 by Lord Renfrew. The only unfortunate event that occurred during excavation was that almost none of these Keros sculptures were found in their complete form. Only fragments of these sculptures remained. It has been noticed, that all through history, the Keros scultpures have been incrediblly difficult to analyze and interpret due to lack of background information and it s obvious missing parts. • 31. “Frankenstein” Or More Commonly Known At The Time “The Frankenstein or more commonly known at the time The Modern Prometheus was wrote and published by a young girl named Mary Shelly in 1818. The novel had to be published anonymously because women were seen as incompetent to write such a piece. However, she later revealed that she was the writer, yet some critics were still skeptical of this and believed Percy Shelley was actually the original writer. Shelley lost her first child soon after she gave birth and some think this is where she thought of the idea of the main character in the novel Victor Frankenstein, who is so engulfed in the idea of bringing the dead back to life. This is not really a hard idea to fathom because a mother losing a child is a horrific event, however as we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Myasthenia gravis presents clinically in a variety of ways, with varied symptoms that make it difficult to diagnose it in initial stages. The enzyme used (contained in the yeast) would have most likely been catalase. 2) Yes, the rate of gas production increased as more yeast was added, since more enzyme was able to convert hydrogen peroxide more quickly. 3) Adding less enzyme caused the reaction to proceed more slowly than when more enzyme was utilized. 4) It is likely that the rate of reaction would increase as substrate is added. It will probably follow classical michaelis menten kinetics. Third, I would incubate substrate with an unrelated protein like albumin (to make sure it s not just the presence of protein that mediates the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide). 6) See attached for the graph. Correlation appears to be negative with this data. It appears like the high temperature caused the enzyme to become denatured. Procedure 3 1) Amylase is utilized to break down starch molecules into more simple sugars for use by the body. It performs this function by hydrolyzing glycosidic linkages in the polysaccharide chain. 2) The control here was to use a solution containing no starch to show that it was the presence of starch itself that was needed for the reaction to proceed and not something inherent in the liquid or the towel itself. Saliva was used as a positive control for the presence of amylase. 3) Waiting 5 minutes allowed the enzymatic reaction to proceed for sufficient time and break down the starch. 4) I cannot answer this question with the information presented, but it should be pretty straightforward to say which foods

With the heavy plates around the head, Dunkleosteus was probably not a fast swimmer, but still would have had powerful muscles developed from just swimming around with the weight. This meant that Dunkleosteus either preferred slower prey, or used ambush tactics to try and take its prey off guard. Another thing to consider is that the jaws of Dunkleosteus, and probably other similar placoderms, could open exceptionally fast within a fraction of a second. This would create a sudden void inside the mouth of Dunkleosteus, creating a vacuum that sucked the water and the prey that was swimming in it into its mouth. This means that Dunkleosteus did not have to physically catch its prey, just get close enough to open its mouth. Larger Dunkleosteus seemed to have preferred other placoderm fish perhaps like Bothriolepis that was very common at the time. Once caught, Dunkleosteus could use its sharp jaws to cut up prey, but it seems that only the softer and more easily digestible flesh was desired. When Dunkleosteus fossils are found, they are often found in association with fish boluses. A bolus is a ball of remains that has been chewed and swallowed, but the remains in connection with Dunkleosteus are of only bones that already seem to have been partially digested. This painting appears to take place either at either dusk or dawn, when the sun is at the horizon. Likely it is dusk, as the setting appears to be in the Northern Hemisphere and the snow in the picture residing on the left hand side of fence would suggest it has yet to melt, so the sun would be setting in the west, or on the right. So the viewer, as well as the subject, is facing south. This affects the painting in several ways. The lighting is very dramatic, the middle ground being very much more lighted than the foreground and background, therefore the colors are more saturated than the foreground and background. These distinguishing features could be more or less highlighted in appearance, mindset or capabilities, but they will always persist and determine the nature of our personality. Unfortunately these characteristic attributes are deteriorating as humanity is moulding us into the perfect person influencing us to stray away from who we are (our so called insignificant selves) to what is desirable (a flawless model). Staying true to yourself means to stick to what you believe in and being whom you were meant to be, it means not sacrificing who you are to fit in with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Anastasia Goodstein, from Huffington Post, 80 percent of girls have purchased an item as a result of an ad in a teen magazine and 63 percent trust magazine ads. As a result girls become convinced that they require particular fashions to belong in a society that emphasizes materialism. Moreover, most of the fashion, diet and lifestyle advice is directed toward being desirable to men. Magazines stress sexuality as a central identity, minimizing all other attributes. The girls reading teen magazines begin to digest and trust the message that they are only sexual objects. Peer pressure is the influence exerted by a social group or an individual, encouraging other persons to change their attitudes, values, or behaviours in order to conform to group norms. Peer pressure is most commonly associated with youth, in part because most youth spend large amounts of time in schools and other fixed groups that they do not choose and are seen as lacking the maturity to handle pressure from friends. Peer pressure can also have positive effects when people are pressured toward positive behaviour, such as volunteering for charity or excelling in academics or athletics, by their peers. However Risk taking behaviour is seemingly the most common as these same people engage in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Informative Speech On Life On Mars I.Introduction A.Attention getter: Have you ever just gazed at the night sky and looked at the stars and thought to yourself Is there life on other planets such as, Mars? Then, you begin to think if NASA will hire you after you applied 20 years ago. B.Speaker Credibility: When I took an astronomy course at USC, my class was getting into life on Mars. At the moment of my semester, NASA discovered water on Mars. This was a discovery that caught my attention therefore, decided to speak about it. C.Thematic Statement: Today I will speak and explain if it is possible for Mars to contain life. D.Preview Statement: The possibility of life on mars is an extravagant topic to look at. Before that, we must analyze Mars itself along with its conditions. First, we will talk about the ice caps located on Mars. Second, we will examine the water streaks on Mars. Third we will observe if the red planet is inhabitable for humans to conquer it. II.Body A.Main Point 1: Us humans have overpopulated the earth and will continue to grow if actions aren t took. We had a population approximate to 7.4 billion people living on earth in 2016. It takes about 40 years to increase the population by 3 billion. Earth can only hold 10 billion people max. Therefore, we will overpopulate the earth around 2040. We need to conquer another planet however, not all planets have the basic elements to sustain life. B.Main Point 1: One of our discoveries were the polar ice caps on Mars. 1.Supporting Material: Jpl.nasa.gov. released an article titled Mars Ice Deposit Holds as Much Water as Lake Superior on November 22, 2016 stating that, Frozen beneath a region of cracked and pitted plains on Mars lies about as much water as what s in Lake Superior, (largest of the Great Lakes}. 2.Speaker s idea: Lake Superior has enough water to cover North America or South America. This means that the ice on Mars can cover a huge wide span when it is melted. In addition, when the ice on mars melts it can help create an atmosphere for Mars. 1.Supporting Material: The article published on space.com titled Red Planet Heats Up: Ice Age Ending on Mars written on May 26, 2016 states, Mars can tilt more than Earth, causing the Red Planet s poles ... • 53. Hypothesis and Research Question Essay example Research questions are formulated in a study to inquire about variables, both independent and dependent variables, and the relationship between them. Research questions are categorized into two, that is, qualitative and quantitative research questions. Qualitative questions are used in qualitative research like case studies, surveys and action researchwhere the approach is non numerical and analyses special phenomena that occur in nature. Quantitative research on the other hand is more of a systematic approach with measurable numerical quantities that go through analysis to prove a hypothesis. Finally, the research hypothesis is either approved or disapproved with regards to the results of the analysis (Laureate Online Education B.V.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It must be logical, and provide a concrete base for any differences between the variables. It must also be simple and clear. A hypothesis can state the following: there exists a positive relationship between employee performance and flexible working hours. Whereas a research question could generally be: do flexible working hours affect workers productivity? You can clearly see that the hypothesis states clearly and it is more specific in its prediction unlike the research question (eNotes.com, Inc 2011). Hypothesis is typically used in quantitative research only. Moreover, when a question poses an inquiry on the relationship between two variables, a hypothesis is a statement declarative in nature of the relationship between different variables (Pajares 2007). A researcher chooses whether to use a question or a hypothesis depending on the purpose of the research, its objectives, the methodology for the research and the preference of the audience to receive the research. A researcher must be able to interpret the final outcome with reference to the research questions or the hypothesis used (Pajares 2007). A research requires a minimum of two hypotheses namely a null and an alternative hypothesis. So, somebody can make a certain observation and come up with a hypothesis about how and why a phenomenon occurs the way it is. Hypothesis could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Parsons Application Essay Sample Parsons has an outstanding reputation, ideal location and came highly recommended by many other artistic students at my school who plan on applying. However, what really made me feel that I belong at Parsons was the artistically diverse community it has attracted, and the values it preaches. Ever since my first familyday trip to New York at the age of eight, I have been taken with this city that is teeming with diversity and art. It was my first time really seeing all walks of life, the good the bad and the ugly, unfiltered. Since then I went back every year for my birthdayand began telling my motherand my best friend that I was going to live there one day. I belonged there. Anna Sui, on Broome Street in New York became a very important place to me. Every time I visited I could slip into a small world of goth art and unashamed extravagant ... However, as a multifaceted creative mind I have experimented and sought instruction not only in drawing but also ceramics, photography, knitting, quilting, singing, baking and guitar. I find the inclusion of all creative types at Parsons very personally reassuring. I feel that should I at some point decide that drawing is not the most fulfilling medium, I trust that I can find another medium to thrive in at this school. I am proud to say that I share many of Parson s values. I too think that working towards a more sustainable earth is one of the most important things one can do in their life. Also, as a queer female I find the accepting environment at Parsons to be very important. As someone who has volunteered cooking and serving dinner at my local homeless shelters, it makes me happy to see that parsons students are using their education to help the many less fortunate people in New York with projects such as the GoodFill bag. I would be proud to attend a school so determined to change the future of our world for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dispersion strengthening usually design in nuclear power plants , hypersonic aircraft , and space vehicles are continually seeking materials that have high strength at elevated temperature . These requirements have been met in part by the precipitation strengthened supperalloys that are suitable for application up to around 1800В°F . The refractory metals , tungsten , molybdenum , columbium , and tantalum , may sometimes be used when the service temperature exceeds the useful temperature of the super alloys . However , the refractory metals are expensive , difficult to fabricate , and have poor resistance to oxidation .
