Hospital acquired infections HAIs are becoming increasing problems for hospitalized patients. They are major causes of death and disability worldwide. Thus a continuous surveillance and monitoring system is imperative for determining the extent of the problem and its effective prevention and control. Accreditation to a Hospital stimulates continuous improvement. It enables hospital in demonstrating commitment to quality care. It raises community confidence in the services provided by the hospital. It also provides opportunity to healthcare unit to benchmark with the best. The Staff in an accredited hospital are satisfied lot as it provides for continuous learning, good working environment, leadership and above all ownership of clinical processes. It improves overall professional development of Clinicians and Paramedical staff and provides leadership for quality improvement within medicine and nursing. KNOWLEDGE GAPS IN MALARIA MANAGMENT IN CAMEROON.pptxFidelityP
Malaria is a vector borne infectious disease caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Plasmodium and is transmitted by an infected female Anopheles mosquito. Until the late 19th Century, the contributory agent for malaria was largely unknown.
Malaria is one of the commonest infections, disproportionately affecting children and pregnant women
In 2019, an estimated 409,000 people died of malaria. Most (274,000) were young children, and 94% of the infections and deaths occurred in Africa. (WHO, 2019)
Children under five years are one of the most vulnerable groups affected by malaria. Severe anaemia, hypoglycaemia and cerebral malaria are features of severe malaria more commonly seen in children than in adults.
According to the WHO 2016 report, the global prevalence of malaria among under-five children was 16%. In the same year, the prevalence in Ethiopia was 0.6%.
Malaria is the most widespread endemic disease in Cameroon, responsible for 2.7 million reported cases, and absenteeism from school and work annually. It continues to be a major public health problem and is the first cause of infant-child morbidity and mortality with a mortality rate in children under five, estimated at 40%.
Much is being done to curb and eradicate malaria infection by the government, USAID and more.

Proposed Protocol for Improving Staff Nurses` Awareness and Self – Efficacy w...ijtsrd
The awareness and preparedness in managing Novel Coronavirus SARS CoV 2 Outbreak infection are most important to prevent the further spread. Aim This study aimed to propose a protocol for improving staff nurses` awareness and self – efficacy with Novel Coronavirus SARS CoV 2 Outbreak. Subjects and Method A descriptive design was utilized in this study that was conducted in the units of Critical Care and Emergency for adults surgery, medicine and pediatrics at El Sayed Galal and Ain Shams University Hospitals. A random sample was composed of 180 nurses with different ages, gender, education and experiences were recruited from the above mentioned settings. The study tools were 1 Self administered questionnaire sheet to assess nurses awareness about Novel Coronavirus SARS CoV 2 Outbreak. 2 General self efficacy scale. 3 Ways of Coping Questionnaire for Staff Nurses. 4 Competency obstacles assessment sheet. Results Mean age of studied nurses was 33.4±27.2 added to their awareness and self efficacy need for improvement. Moreover, there were many obstacles affecting their competency. Conclusion Overall, the current study concluded that nearly half of studied nurses had satisfactory awareness about Novel Coronavirus SARS CoV 2 and their role during the outbreak. Meanwhile, less than half of them had high self – efficacy and positive coping. In addition, majority of them had competency obstacles during their work on outbreak time. Recommendations Further research study should be done to implement and nvestigate the effect of this proposed protocol for such group of nurses. Lamiaa A. Elsayed | Soad M. Hegazy | Rania M. Background:
World Health Organization and Ministry of Health (Uganda) recommend use of microscopy for parasitological confirmation of malaria. Microscopy involves either Giemsa or Field’s staining techniques. Ministry of Health prefers and recommends use of Giemsa staining technique but most health facilities still use Field’s staining technique. The objective of this study was to compare the cost-effectiveness of Giemsa and Field’s staining techniques in order to inform malaria diagnosis policy and practice in Uganda.
Methods:
This was a cross sectional cost effectiveness analysis from the provider’s perspective covering the period between April 25, 2014 and June 15, 2014. The study involved 243 children below five years of age presenting at Acute Care Unit laboratory for malaria test before admission. Giemsa and Field’s staining techniques were compared with Polymerase Chain Reaction as the gold standard. Decision tree analytic model in Tree Age was used for the cost effectiveness analysis.
Results:
Field’s and Giemsa staining techniques cost US $ 0.030 and US $ 0.769 respectively. Correctly diagnosed cases were 227 and 230 for Field’s and Giemsa staining techniques respectively. The proportion of correctly diagnosed cases was 93.4% for Field’s and 94.7% for Giemsa. Incremental cost effectiveness ratio was 0.35 US $ per additional correctly diagnosed case.
Conclusion:
Field’s staining technique was more cost effective than Giemsa staining technique; provided a higher number of correctly diagnosed cases at a lower cost than Giemsa staining technique. Field’s staining technique is recommended as staining technique for malaria diagnosis at the Acute Care Unit of Mulago National Referral Hospital. This implies that even with introduction of more superior staining techniques for laboratory diagnosis of malaria, Field staining technique is still a cost effective technique to be used in resource limited settings with high malaria burden like Uganda and Africa at large.

SELF LEARNING VERSUS TRADITIONAL LEARNING FOR NURSING STUDENTS REGARDING SAFE...indexPub
Self-directed learning necessary for effective lifelong learning and many skills of students are expected to improve. Traditional learning methods are ineffective and passive instructional method. Students' nurses need to be educated and periodically reinforce their knowledge through seminars and
workshops to ensure high understanding of how to prevent communicable diseases transmission.. Aim of study: evaluate the self-learning versus traditional learning regarding safety measures in emergency unit. Research Design: A quasi-experimental design was utilized. Setting: The study will be conducted in nursing schools at Abbasiya district (Dar El Shifa School and psychiatric health school). Study sample: A purposive sample was collected; it consisted of 120 students nurses, first class, both genders, Tools: three tool was used pre/post in this study: 1- Structured Interviewing Questionnaire to assess characteristic and knowledge of studied students 2- Observation checklists to assess students, performance post implementation of two learning methods. 3- Students, opinion sheet to assess student's satisfaction regarding self-learning and traditional learning method assess the environment
of the school lab. Results: there was a highly statistically significant differences in relation to knowledge about safety in the emergency unit items between pre and post program in self-learning group (P= < 0.001).while, no statistically significant differences in traditional learning group Moreover, there was a positive highly statistically significant correlation between total knowledge and total practices among studied students in self-learning and traditional-learning groups in the post program. Conclusion: In conclusion Implementation of nursing student intervention had positive effect on knowledge, and practices for two groups (self-learning& traditional learning) regarding safety measure in emergency unit. Recommendation: developing educational programs for enhancing students' awareness about safety measures in emergency unit should be a priority in nursing schools to ensure early protective from infection. Raise nursing student's awareness regarding safety measures by using self-learning.

epidemic characteristics in the Korean hospitals. 43 hospitals (86.0%) received the
reports of scabies infection with suspicious or definite diagnosis to infection control
department, implicating continuous increases 14.6% (7/48), 20.8% (10/48), 35.7%
(17/48), 44.1% (21/48), and 56.7% (27/48) in 2010 to 2013 and 35.7% (17/48) in 2014
up to April.
92.0% of the hospitals had the rules and guideline of scabies infection control,
which seemed to be prepared by the recent certifications of medical institutions and
establishment of rules in infection control departments. However, less than half of the
hospitals 44.0% (22/50) prepared the screening system related to scabies during the
admission processes of the patients, 56.7% of the patients had the typical symptoms
related to scabies when they admitted with 47.0% of pruritus, requiring the system to
prevent from the scabies epidemic beforehand

Recommendation: developing educational programs for enhancing students' awareness about safety measures in emergency unit should be a priority in nursing schools to ensure early protective from infection. Raise nursing student's awareness regarding safety measures by using self-learning.
This study was conducted to understand the status of scabies infection and its
epidemic characteristics in the Korean hospitals.
The prostate is an exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system
It is a walnut-sized gland that forms part of the male reproductive system and is located in front of the rectum and just below the urinary bladder
Function is to store and secrete a clear, slightly alkaline fluid that constitutes 10-30% of the volume of the seminal fluid that along with the spermatozoa, constitutes semen
A healthy human prostate measures (4cm-vertical, by 3cm-horizontal, 2cm ant-post ).
It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It has anterior, median, posterior and two lateral lobes
It’s work is regulated by androgens which are responsible for male sex characteristics
Generalised disease of the prostate due to hormonal derangement which leads to non malignant enlargement of the gland (increase in the number of epithelial cells and stromal tissue)to cause compression of the urethra leading to symptoms (LUTS

Acute scrotum is a general term referring to an emergency condition affecting the contents or the wall of the scrotum.
There are a number of conditions that present acutely, predominantly with pain and/or swelling
A careful and detailed history and examination, and in some cases, investigations allow differentiation between these diagnoses. A prompt diagnosis is essential as the patient may require urgent surgical intervention
Testicular torsion refers to twisting of the spermatic cord, causing ischaemia of the testicle.
Testicular torsion results from inadequate fixation of the testis to the tunica vaginalis producing ischemia from reduced arterial inflow and venous outflow obstruction.
The prevalence of testicular torsion in adult patients hospitalized with acute scrotal pain is approximately 25 to 50 percent

Lung Cancer: Artificial Intelligence, Synergetics, Complex System Analysis, S...Oleg Kshivets
RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

2. RESEARCH STATEMENT
“AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY TO ASSESS THE
EFFECTIVENESS OF STRUCTURED TEACHING
PROGRAMME ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING
MUCORMYCOSIS AMONG NURSING STUDENTS
OF SAAII COLLEGE OF MEDICAL SCIENCE AND
TECHNOLOGY KANPUR, UTTAR PRADESH”
3. INTRODUCTION
• Mucormycosis, a rare, potentially deadly infection, is caused by the fungus of
the order Mucorales. But when it does occur, it is well remembered by those
who have cared for the afflicted patient because of the speed with which it can
progress.
• It has certainly earned the designation of the most acutely fatal fungal
infection known to man. Mucormycosis is best known for its rhino-cerebral
presentation even though it can infect the lungs, central nervous system,
gastrointestinal tract, skin etc.
• Progressing through the stages of rhino maxillary, rhino-orbital and rhino-
orbit-cerebral Mucormycosis, it is rapidly fatal in 50 to 80%. It primarily
affects immune compromised patients, more commonly diabetics but seldom
infects a healthy host.
4. • During the second wave of covid in India there was a rapid rise in mucormycosis
cases in patients infected with covid. This rise was attributed to many factors which
Include steroid intake, diabetes mellitus, and oxygen therapy and ventilator/ICU
management. There were many reports suggesting the role of industrial oxygen and
even use of excessive zinc in etiology of mucor.
• The clinical hallmark of invasive mucormycosis is tissue necrosis resulting from
angioinvasion and subsequent thrombosis. In most cases, the infection is rapidly
progressive and results in death unless underlying risk factors (i.e., metabolic
acidosis) Are corrected and2aggressive treatment with antifungal agents and surgical
excision is instituted
• Patients with acute proptosis, an increased intraocular pressure, rapid visual loss,
ophthalmoplegia, fixed dilated pupil, or afferent pupillary defect should be suspected
of an undiagnosed mucormycosis .Mucormycosis carries a high mortality Rate,
making early diagnosis and prompt treatment a sine-qua-non to prevent catastrophic
outcomes
5. NEED OF THE STUDY
• An upsurge of mucormycosis is being reported throughout the world over the
past two decades, however, the rise in developing countries including India has
been phenomenal.17-18-19 Three consecutive case series on mucormycosis have
been reported from a single tertiary-care center in India: 129 cases over 10 years
(1990-1999), 178 cases during the subsequent 5 years (2000-2004) and then 75
cases in an 18 month period during 2006-2007
• According to studies, 1.7 people per million were affected by black fungus
Though the infection rate was eighty times higher in India during the COVID-
19 .In India reported 14,872 cases up to 28 May 2021. The Indian authorities
already stated that mucormycosis should be declared an epidemic due to the
higher mortality rate. However, adequate knowledge of health care workers and
its’ implementation consider effective measures to win in the battle of disease
outbreaks
6. • On 24 may 2021, Medical professionals at Lucknow’s King George Medical
University informed that at least 7 such cases have been diagnosed at the centre
over the past three months. Of these, 4 individuals are still receiving treatment in
the ICU. While 2 patients aged 35 and 60 are diabetic, the other two aged 70 and
45, have taken steroids for a long time. The 42 year old deceased had
complained of fever about 10 days back. He was admitted to Kanpur’s Lala
Lajpat Rai Hospital (Hallett Hospital). A resident of Bidhuna town in Auraiya,
he succumbed to the infection on Monday morning. Uttar Pradesh recently
declared black fungus a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act.
• Hence , as a researcher I felt the need to conduct a quasi-experimental study on
nursing students of SAAII College of medical science and technology as
B.Sc.Nursing students,as they are getting exposure in clinical area, and they
should have adequate knowledge regarding the disease condition to provide
good nursing care whenever they get exposure with Mucormycosis patients.
