My Mother Essays
Writing an essay about my mother might seem like a straightforward task at first glance. After
all, who knows our mothers better than we do? However, the challenge lies not in the familiarity
of the subject but in the depth of emotions and experiences that one must convey. The difficulty
arises from the delicate balance between capturing the essence of a mother's influence and
avoiding clichГ©s and superficial sentiments.
To begin with, there is the struggle to encapsulate a lifetime of memories, sacrifices, and love
into a coherent and engaging narrative. The complexity of the mother-child relationship adds
another layer of intricacy. It's not just about listing her admirable qualities but understanding the
nuances of how those qualities have shaped one's own character.
Moreover, finding a unique angle or perspective that stands out from the myriad of similar essays
can be challenging. The risk of falling into overly sentimental or generic expressions is ever-
present. Striking the right balance between showcasing a mother's virtues and acknowledging her
imperfections requires finesse in writing.
Furthermore, the emotional involvement in the topic can make it difficult to maintain objectivity
and coherence in the essay. While personal anecdotes and emotions are vital for conveying the
depth of one's feelings, they need to be crafted in a way that resonates universally, allowing
readers to connect with the narrative.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "My Mother" is challenging not because of a lack
of material or familiarity with the subject, but rather due to the need for profound introspection,
careful expression, and the ability to transcend clichГ©s. It's a tribute that demands genuine
thoughtfulness and a delicate touch to capture the essence of one of the most influential
relationships in a person's life.
And for those seeking assistance with such heartfelt compositions, a variety of essays, including
those on similar topics, can be conveniently ordered on HelpWriting.net. The platform

Literary Techniques In The Highwayman
Kyle Cantrell Professor Toni 16 November 2017 Riding The highwayman is a
beloved historical look on the traditional forbidden love story that is filled with
imagery and unexpected moments to keep the reader interested. Alfred Noyes
doesn t experiment with new writing techniques or revolutionary storylines.
However he utilizes elements and techniques that have been used for centuries.
This common story line of the thief or robber who has a forbidden love is common
among many classic english works of literature. Noyes was purposefully giving his
readers a taste of an England that was already long gone by 1906. The
Highwayman uses literary devices such as repetition, imagery, and rhyming to
advance the story and contribute to the plot in a meaningful way to the reader.
The Highwayman follows the story of a young highwayman who is on his way to
visit his love Bess at her father s large in. A highwayman is a man on horseback
who stops people on the road and robs them of their belongings. He is in a hurry so
once he arrives at the inn he only has time for one quick kiss for Bess and then he
has to ride off into the hills. He promised Bess that he will be back the next night,
and she waits in anticipation. The next night British soldiers take who hate the
highwayman and want to put an end to his rides tie up Bess and hold her at
gunpoint as they wait for his arrival. As the night goes on Bess becomes more
inconsolable and worried as the impending doom of her love grows
Notting Hill Interview
In early February of 2017, my eighty six year old grandmother fell and broke her
arm in two places. Since then, she has been in a rehabilitation center called the
Notting Hill of West Bloomfield. My family wanted the best care and recovery for
my grandmother. After extensive research, my family found that Notting Hill was
rated very highly for its physical and occupational therapy, and it did. However, from
the first day the my grandmother was there, my grandmother, other familymembers of
mine, and I noticed an unfortunate phenomenon that still occurs at this facility;
patients are not being taken care of properly by the nurses and aides. There is a poor
response time to the help light, there are many medication errors, there is frequent...

In an interview with PBS, A.C. Thompson discusses his findings when he
investigated a prestigious living facility with high ratings: There was a pattern of
problems that spanned the country. And what we kept seeing were allegations and
citations for a lack of staffing, not enough workers, a lack of training, workers who
weren t trained enough, medication errors, people getting the wrong drugs over and
over again. These were the kind of things that we saw, and these were the things that
worried us about the industry as it evolves. This description of his findings are very
consistent with experiences I have personally witnessed. Like my mother, Thompson
talks poorly trained staff and the miniscule amount of staff. These factors are what
allow for such poor care in these facilities that happen around the country.
In this interview, Thompson voices concern for the future of assisted living. The PBS
interview supports my claim that there is an inability to properly take care of
patients in living facilities, and that it is dangerous to elderly people or those with
disadvantages. One way in which Thompson strengthens my claim is through his use
of the word pattern. This word shows how common these problems are across the
country in assisted living facilities. These problems that he witnessed are dangerous
and, as he put it,
The Supreme Court
The Supreme Court
The purpose of the Supreme Court is to review or address cases that involve issues
on a federal level or of constitutional law, just as appellate courts hear cases on a
state level. Their responsibilities include deciding how to apply the principles of
constitutional law to new matters and issues that arise in today s day to day legal
process; they also play the role of the parent to lower federal appellate courts when
their decisions on legal issues are contradicting to one another, overlap, goes against
constitutional rights, or allows room for confusion as to whose decision takes
precedent. Bottom line the purpose of the Supreme Court is to provide the rules and
statues for state level courts to abide by when they ... Show more content on

In my opinion this rule is of fairness because without drawing the line and having a
court to reach a final decision and establish authority legal matters could stay in
appeal courts for years, constantly being argued and picked apart. The part to the
Supreme Courts process I will disagree with is being able to decide what cases to
hear and the justices serving for life terms. In my opinion both of these factors
allow room for bias and prejudice which should always be one of our constitutional
rights that are highly upheld, giving the supreme Courts random cases to address
during their term, increasing the length of their term allowing for more cases to be
reviewed, and decreasing the term of each judges years of service by switching
justices after a given period of time will allow for justice to be bigger than the
messenger.

Lab Report On Titration
Introduction: The Objective of the lab is to determine the mass percent of ascorbic
acid in a vitamin C tablet by titration with a sodium hydroxide solution of known
concentration. A titration is a procedure in which we measure the volume of a
solution of a solution of known concentration that is needed to completely react with
volume of NaOH analyzing. A buret is used to measure the amount of NaOH in
titrationand it is a piece of calibrated glassware used to accurately deliver volumes
of a liquid or a solution. To determine when the neutralization reaction is complete
by adding an acid base indicator(Phenolphthalein) and it changes color at the end
point. To calculate the mass percent ascorbic acid in the sample by using mass of

The Discussion For This Week Is Group Dynamics
The discussion for this week is Group Dynamics. Webster s dictionary defines group
dynamics as the interacting forces within a small human group; also, the sociological
study of these forces. A well renown change management expert and social
psychologist Kurt Lewin. He created the phrase group dynamics in the mid 1940 s
(Moreno,1953) He has written quite a bit about individuals choosing a distinctive
characteristics and conduct when placed in a group. He studied the influence of the
distinctive character and conduct on an individual and on the entire group (Moreno,
1953).
I am sure we have all had experiences during our life, where we were required to
work as a group, or be a part of a group. I am sure we can all share good experiences,
as well as horror stories. I have hired on with different companies over the years,
and I could tell early on whether the team I am assigned to would be a positive
experience or negative experience. There are indicators that stand out clearly. The
first thing I usually notice is whether the team is productive, is there trust amongst
the team members, are team member held responsible for their jobs/projects, and is
the team striving for a shared goal.
When a team has negative group dynamics the shared goal is not reached and
progress is not made. The team is not working at the optimum level that a company
requires to remain successful and competitive. Kurt Lewin and other researchers have
noted that teams with positive
Newsies Movie Analysis
Newsies, a classic musical based on the late 1800 s is a very entertaining and
family friendly musical except for the few profane words. On a cloudy, partially
rainy saturday morning, I laid out on the couch and watched the movie from the
comfort of my own home. I was hesitant to watch this movie because I am not
much of a musical person. About midway through I found myself at the edge of my
seat hypnotized by the movie. As the movie drew to an end, I was completely
sucked in and waited for something more. The movie I so dreadfully did not want to
watch became something I did not want to end. In this movie the director and
composer correlated their scenes and musicperfectly together to touch the thoughts
and emotions of the audience watching.
The Newsies movie is based on a group of young strong hearted newspaper boys that
run the streets of New york City provoking newspaper sales just to have some food
on the table for them to eat. Every morning the boys wake up early to go buy
copies of the latest newspaper before it is all sold out. During a time when nothing
media worthy was going on in New York City, greedy media moguls raised the
prices of newspapers so they could stay cushioned on top of their business empires;
however, raising the prices of newspaper on the boys meant less profit for them.
The price raise did not settle well with the boys, and they began a strike to lower the
prices. In doing so they earned the name Newsies. As the movie began to conclude,

Ways to Prevent School Shootings
School shootings are terrifying to think about, but there are ways to help prevent
the massacres from ever happening again. The first known school shooting was at
the Texas Tower at the University of Texas in 1966 where Charles Whitman shot
and killed 16 people while injuring 31 others. Who would have known since that
date that we would have more then 200 deaths on school campuses? The most
storied shooting in the 90 s was probably the Columbine massacre where on April
20, 1999 Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed 32 students and faculty before
turning the guns on themselves. The horror scene from the day will always be
remembered in many lives and will continue over the years. There were many other
horrible shootings over the years as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Noticing some early warning signs and not being scared to report them can help
someone from making the biggest mistake of their life and saving people from
harms way should start with the love shown from the parents. Having the parents
be in the kids life knowing his or her surroundings at all time can be the key for
prevention. Showing our kids love and attention will not make them want to do
harm to others and having your child talk to you if something is bothering them.
When you aren t in the child s life and not knowing what s going on with them
could easily make them feel lost inside and can turn to depression like our parents
don t care about them, a key fact is no matter how busy our lives with our job and
anything else that we might do in our spare time parents should always find time
to spend with our child each day, even if its only for a half hour, each time that we
show love can be a key for our child not to do the unthinkable. The key facts from
kids that do the shooting is a lot of times from being bullied at school or make fun
of that will keep there anger all bottled up inside until one day the anger explodes
and the worst scenario happens and that is a school shooting. Parents should also talk
to their child to let them know not to be scared to report things that might seem out
of the ordinary. Kids should always report to authority or a teacher
Widespread Offences In Football
My Senior Project is on the diversion I have cherished since I have been a young
man, which is football. What I adore most about football is the hostile plans and
various types that are out there. There are three principle offenses in football which
are the Spread, Option, and Wing T. They all have distinctive outlines that add to
them being fruitful. The spread offense is the best on the grounds that the spread,
which is the most energizing also, has a considerable measure of wide
arrangements. The most imperative part of the spread offense is the blocking,
makes resistances concentrate on the running back so that the pass can get to be
helpful. The line should be great at a zone blocking yet first the Quarterback should

event that he peruses the rear he will neglect to ride the work point which

essential thing the handle can do to make the play effective. Presently another
critical thing on the O line is The linemen far from the play must scoop on the rear.
This cuts off interest and gives the B Back wrinkles to run when the ball is

The Importance Of Reading Books
During my adolescence, my mother would force me to read books. Although I didn t
necessarily like it, the habit grew on me. This forced assignment made me enjoy a
certain genre of books, non fiction.
At the young age of nine years old is when it began. My mother made me begin the
daunting task of completing a book at the end of the week. Although, the time limit
did vary depending on the size of the book. After the first few weeks I would dread
reading. During this age, I wanted to watch television and play games. After
spending so much time reading. I realized that procrastinating wouldn t get me that
far. Therefore, I would really take the time to read and not fumble around. This gave
me more time to enjoy the things I really wanted to ... Show more content on

Reading these non fictional books made me realize how ungrateful I was being,
because years and years ago, a black child just like me would kill to read a book.
After I grew a new found love for black history and reading non fiction I began to
discover possible career choices. I read books about the political standing in
America. I learned how some injustices were done unto blacks through political
leaders. This gave me a strong desire to go into the political field. Also, the
presidential term of Barack Obama made me want to explore the possibilities of
politics. This also gave me self awareness of my surroundings. Reading about the
hatred that President Obama received from his fellow counterparts made me realize
the world we live in. Growing up in the south I wasn t really on the lookout for
certain things. But reading about the 1960 s and the Jim Crow era I realized some
similarities. Such as, behavior and mannerisms.
Another new avenue I discovered was going to museums. Being able to visually
see parts of history fascinated me during my younger age and still to this day it
excites me. I could read the small descriptions of whatever item was begin
displayed. This gave me another passion for reading. Going on school field trips was
the highlight of my school days. Especially if it had some involvement of African
American history or culture.
Currently the habit that my mother instilled in me still works. I always try my best to

Argumentative Essay On Animal Welfare
Health, benefit, well being, progress, care, profit, thriving, all words that are
synonyms to welfare. Animal welfare has been an agricultural issue for several
decades. Animal welfare refers to the physical, emotional, and mental state an animal
is in. There are several organization in the United States along with other corporations
around the world that have the same mission; to promote animalwelfare. This issue
has a deep rooted history, various legislative acts being voted on and passed, as
well as many effects from these organizations, and legislative bills. Animal farms
find their first start in 7500 BC where goats and sheep were farmed for their
resources such as wool, milk, and meat (Early Farming). Even 7,000 years before

When these laws are passed, producers are burdened with rules and regulations that
they must follow. For example, it could be involving the slaughter, transportation,
or shelter the livestock is housed in. The law could require a certain amount of
square footage or acreage per a selected number of livestock. Next the middleman
is affected. The middleman could be anyone from a grocery store owner to an
owner of a store that sells things that use animal products. Usually the laws require
farmers to use a more expensive route to caring for an animal thus the farmer has
to raise his or her prices when selling the animal or product. The grocery store
owner then would have to pay more for the animal products he is purchasing, but
he would also be able to advertise depending on the product that his products were
organic, antibiotic free, or free of animal testing. This could both benefit or
drawback his business depending on the consumers in the area. The consumer is the
final group to be affected by animal welfare acts. There are both positive and
negatives to the consumer side. The positives to the consumer side is that they can
take advantage of antibiotic free, organic, animal testing free and other specialized
products. If consumers are conscious of what they are putting in and on their bodies
they would appreciate the choices these laws allow them. The
What Does It Means To Be An Organ Donor
Have you ever wanted to be a hero to a family or a literal life saver to another? By
saying yes to organ donation you have the ability to do so. In fact, saying yes
should be required considering the number of wasted organs that could save
numerous lives every day. On average, there are about 22 people on the transplant
list who die each day while waiting for healthy organs. Also, every ten minutes,
someone is added to the transplant list needing organs to keep them alive. Every
time someone signs up to be a donor, they are saving 8 lives, but can also save and
enhance more than 100 lives through tissue donation. Along with organs and tissue,
there are many ways to be a donor. No matter if you re deceased or living you can be
an organdonor. Kidneys, blood, bones, intestines and more can be donated while
you re still living, but if you no longer need your heart pumping to live, why
shouldn t there be a law to donate it to someone whose heart is failing? A person
having a choice for donating their organs, not only puts a stressful decision on them,
but puts stress on families as well who have a loved one waiting for healthy organs....

If organ donations were mandatory, you or your loved one would have a highly
increased chance of receiving organs. An average of 6,000 people in the United
States dies each day, which would save a countless number of lives on the transplant
list. Eventually, one of those 6,000 people could possibly save my own life. Putting
all of the facts aside, people have their own opinions about organ donation. Some may
believe that there is no value in donating their organs to someone who only has
hours left to live, but there is life. Life is the most valuable gift anyone can receive.
So with this being said, organ donation should no longer be a choice but
Swot Analysis of Mcdonald s vs. Burger King
The McDonald brothers first restaurant, founded in 1937 in a parking lot just east
of Pasadena, Calif., didn t serve hamburgers. It had no playground and no Happy
Meals. The most popular item on the menu was the hot dog, and most people ate it
sitting on an outdoor stool or in their cherished new autos while being served by
teenage carhops. That model was a smashing success for about a decade. Then
America s tastes began to change, and the Golden Arches changed with them. As
cars lost some of their romance, indoor restaurants took over. When adults became
bored with the menu in the 1960s, a new sandwich called the Big Mac wooed them
back. As consumers grew weary of beef, McDonald s introduced bite size chunks of
chicken in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quinlan shuffled his U.S. management team. He says the decentralized structure
will rekindle the company s entrepreneurial flair. A new cooking system set for
2000 should make it easier to customize sandwiches, improve quality, and expand
the menu. Fundamentally, however, tomorrow s McDonald s won t be much
different. Do we have to change? asks Quinlan. No, we don t have to change. We
have the most successful brand in the world. McDonald s, though, is doing some
tinkering. The new head of the domestic division Jack M. Greenberg, a pleasant 54
year old lawyer who has been with the company 16 years has brought in a handful
of new managers, including executives from Burger King, Boston Market, and
General Electric Co. We are not afraid to do things differently, Greenberg says. In a
first for the burger giant, McDonald s in February bought a stake in another
restaurant, a 14 outlet chain in Denver called Chipotle Mexican Grill. But execs
emphasized that the heart of the company s menu will remain the same and that it
believes it can squeeze new profits from the U.S. burger business, even though
McDonald s already dominates the crowded segment. We will extend our line, rather
than going in more radical, different directions, says Quinlan, 53, who started in the
company mailroom at age 19. I m a fan of menu tweaking. Compare the McDonald s
strategy with that at other companies that have prospered despite
Solitary Confinement, By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The documentary, Solitary Confinement, really brings to light the issues that
surround this old form of punishment. These tactics were used in the past, and then
were eventually regarded as being cruel and inhumane. Somehow, the idea of
solitary confinement has returned and is respected among many people. I believe
that there are some people who do need to be put in solitary confinement and some
who shouldn t have to go through that psychological pain. The movie did shine some
perspective on to me, as i had not nearly any clue as to what really went down behind
those walls.
First of all, at Colorado State Penitentiary, they call it administrative segregation
rather than solitary confinement. This is because their goal is supposedly, just to cut
them off from physical contact until they are determined to be safe around other
people. The feelings projected by the men being interviewed in the documentary tie
in with the feelings that Stanley Tookie Williams expressed in his book, Life in Prison
. All of the inmates, including Stanley, acknowledged that solitary confinement, or
the hole, causes people to go crazy. Stanley complained of the small cells and how it
made many men go stir crazy. In the film, they showed exactly how small the cells are
and the limited room for activity that the inmates have. The images in the
documentary of the men getting strip searched further supported Stanley s statements
regarding the embarrassment of strip searches. It showed one of the men

As I gave feedback, I utilized the following skills: I provided feedback in a timely
manner immediately after the skill check so that the account of my observations
would be fresh in mind. I focused on actionable behaviors, rather than things she
could not change. When she seemed flustered and forgetful, I suggested that she
take a moment to gather her thoughts, and move slowly through the process until
she felt calm and proficient. I used specific examples and concise language. When I
noticed that the residents shoes were sticking out from under the side of the bed and
looked like a trip hazard, I suggested that the head of the bed would be a safer place
to put them.
I also made sure utilize and balance positive and negative feedback by making the
quintessential positive/ negative/ positive sandwich. I was quick to compliment for
her comfortable and friendly demeanor with the resident, then talked about my
concerns with giggling and joking around with the wrong audience, then finished
with positive observations on her overall skill and competence. I made sure to listen
afterwards, and she explained her thoughts and realizations about how things had
gone from her perspective, and ended with overall agreement and supportive feelings
for each other.
Out of the five basic elements of caring communication, I chose to focus on
positiveness and openness. Positiveness is shown by having self confidence, a
positive, secure view of self, and by maintaining a favorable view of
The Sustainable Measures Of Middle Eastern Heritage

The sustainable measures of Middle Eastern heritage buildings are limited, as well the
international green rating system versions are still unsuitable and unable to adapt the
local conditions and customs. Despite the Arab efforts to have their own rating
systems, such as Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Kuwait (Komurlu, Ruveyda, Asli Pelin
Gurgun, and David Arditi 2015, Omar Attallah, Sherif, Ahmad Senouci, Amr Kandil,
and Hassan Al Derham 2013), sustainability in most Middle Eastern countries is still
deficient and facing many challenges presented by the lack of the cooperation and

Syrian government s concern for the environment and sustainability, the situation of

There Will Be Blood
There Will be Blood was released in 2007. The director and the screenwriter was
by Paul Thomas Anderson. Some of the tremendous actors in this movie are,
Daniel Day Lewis, Paul Dano, and Dillon Freasier. I would say this movie really
set the tone for the American dream, even though it wasn t really thought of during
the movie s time period. It really shows hard work, greed, lust, and trickery.
Overall this is a good movie, with a very slow start. It is filled with drama,
mystery, and action. If you are for those kinds of films this movie is right up your
alley. This movie is more of an action, drama, and mystery film. You never know
what will be happening next. The film is filled with small hints, to where you have to
pay very close attention
Pacific Ocean Waste Management
In the Pacific Ocean, there is an island made completely out of garbage. It is so big
that it is called the Great Pacific Ocean Patch. Scientists even found that nine percent
of the island is made up of dead fish. The patch weighs about seven million tons,
which means that there are 630,000 tons of fishon that one island of garbage.
Scientists also say that the patch could possibly double within the next ten years.
The patch is estimated to be the size of Texas to twice the size of the continental
United States (Moore). This issue needs to be resolved quickly and efficiently. One
way to resolve it is to improve the level of wastemanagement used across the world.
Waste management is a solution to all kinds of pollution. The level of waste
management in the United States and around the world is unacceptably low. Many
people think that waste management is just a garbage and recycling company.
Although, Waste management is the handling of discarded materials, also known
as waste or garbage ( Waste Management ). Waste management is not just a
company, it is a global crisis. Waste management is a process leading to less
pollution in the oceans and many other places. It can be the igniter for people in the
world to go green and preserve the environment and the animals in it. The Barents
and Greenland Seas are north of the United States and Europe. These seas are
hotspots for plastic pileups. Plastic has been gathering in the Barents and Greenland

two of the worst aquatic invasive species in Minnesota, and are a huge problem in

Eurasian Water Milfoil, choking it out in competition for food and space. It isn t
picky about growing conditions, and is very hard to remove by hand. A biological
control agent has not yet been discovered for the Starry Stonewort, so at this point
effort needs to be focused on preventing the spread (Marcotty,
Feminism And Feminism
Throughout history government and politics has been a patriarchal system;
controlled by men. In recent years this system has been challenged as women have
recently been gaining traction in the political world, after a past of zero tolerance of
women in politics there is still a major issue with the number of women in the
political realm. Women are underrepresented in politics and government because
although men in politics like to fight for equal rights for women, in reality they are
hesitant to follow through at the cost of losing their own foothold in the political
world.
According to Oxford English Dictionary, feminism is the advocacy of women s rights
on the ground of the equality of the sexes. Since feminism came to be, it has
always been a crucial part of society. But not only is it a social ______ but it is also
political, ever since the movement for women s rights began in the 1840 s. There are
many theories with regards to feminism and politics. One of these theories is Liberal
Feminism. The Liberals ideology is that freedom is a fundamental value, and that the
state ensures freedom for individuals. Liberal feminists hold the same views and
insist on freedom for women. Liberals in general believe that freedom comes from
personal autonomy and political autonomy; making personal choices that affects one
s life, and helping to co author the conditions of the government which one may live
under. The liberals also believed that in order to exercise personal autonomy
Software Patent Protection Research Paper
Software patentability has been a controversial debate for a long time. Some
countries, such as the United States broadly allow software patents. Meanwhile, in
most countries, such as Europe and the United Kingdom, patentability of software is
on an ad hoc basis, where the certain tests and approaches are adopted and shifted
over time. The more pressing question therefore relates to the scope to be accorded to
software patents.
Accordingly, this essay examines the boundaries within which software patents are
granted under the jurisdiction of the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office (
EPO ) and the United Kingdom. For this purpose, in addition to the introduction and
conclusion, with respect to each jurisdiction, the essay first ... Show more content on

1.2.1Narrow scope of patent protection for software
As referred to in section 2.1, due to the excluded subject matter, there is a
misconception that software is not patentable in Europe. However, in practice, the
EPO has granted thousands of software patents since its formulation. Scholars assess
that the scope of patent protection for software interpreted by the Boards of Appeals
is fairly limited.
Nevertheless, narrow or broad are the abstract concepts, which should be evaluated
in conjunction with the benefits and costs of software patents. Therefore, it is
relevant to examine the reasons for opening or closing door for software patents to
take a stand in assessing how broad or narrow the scope of patent protection should
be.
Some commentators argue that the optimal scope should be broad for the reasons set
out below.
First, given that copyright does not protect technical innovation and ideas of software,
patent which protects such aspect may give satisfaction to the inventor for his hard
work and intellect.
Second, software patents will stimulate investment and incentives to invent because
details of the invention are available to the public. As recognized by the EPO, it will
promote the innovation of the software industry.
Some researchers also predict that European patent law will follow the lead of the
United States in going through three phases: (i) first doubted; (ii)
Summary Of The Poem Analysis Of Philip Larkin
In the event that Rudyard Kipling, an English columnist, short story author, writer,
and writer, is the verse of the domain, at that point Philip Larkin s verse will take
after ideal in the strides. Philip Larkin, however an extremely capable and
venerated writer, composed the majority of his verse on his discontent with life.
He appears to dependably be yearning for affection, sex, and satisfaction. Larkin
reliably expounds on his own despondency and absence of social life and this
makes a style of sonnet all his own. Larkin truly opens up in his verse and spills out
his emotions on the peruser. In the event that Larkin craves engaging in sexual
relations he tells the peruser; if Larkin had an awful day he tells the peruser; if

Larkin summons his own particular desire of individuals who are engaging in
sexual relations upon his perusers. Larkin targets individuals who aren t getting
sexual satisfaction and influences them to feel a similar way he does: miserable
with their present issue (not having intercourse) and having a want to change this
circumstance. Again Bruce Meyer, [High Windows] is about the sexual opportunity
that was clearing England in the 60 s. These ballads demonstrate a look at the
paradise that Larkin needs to get to and indicate individuals what they re absent.
Larkin gives a window in to what life could be. From his lyric High Windows,
Separation and estrangement figure conspicuously in both of Larkin s books, also;
yet it is in his ballads that they get their fullest improvement. The speakers of his
sonnets and in the immense larger part of cases the speaker is simply the writer
appear to be estranged from their environment, cut off from the two individuals and
establishments. While that estrangement regularly shows itself as separation, as
incongruity and wry amusingness, it can at times show up as pomposity,
carelessness, notwithstanding scoffing judgment. Larkin turns his feeling of
segregation, of being an untouchable or periphery eyewitness, into a place of
centrality, in which the world from which he is estranged is by all accounts moving
extraneously to his own circle. In his best ballads, that separation works two ways,
enabling the writer to watch the
The Kenyon Commencement Speech By David Foster
Wallace
I believe that existence is comprised of hundreds and millions of different realities
intermingling and colliding into one another. I also believe that at the center of each
reality there lies the individual who crafted it. Our perception of what is real and
false exists solely in our own minds, and our minds are what determines the lense in
which we perceive the world. Our perception is largely influenced by our psyche;
how we live and think stems from our perception of the world. Our brains are directly
influenced by a number of key factors, including but not limited to; societal
connotations, individual experience, instinctual desires, environmental factors, and
cognitive thought. These factors, as well as other conditions, are what determine our
default setting. In his noteable This is Water speech, given at the 2005 Kenyon
Commencement Address, David Foster Wallaceargues a similar idea as he explains
his take on the phrase teaching you how to think . Through his use of relatable
parables and anecdotes and repetition and reverent focus of words like choice and
awareness he paints a livid picture of the use of conscious choice in our daily lives.
He stresses the concept of a self centered default setting that comes from an
individual s blind certainty and the repercussions that deferring to that default can
have on an individual s lifestyle and fulfilment. If we are unable to recognise the
water in which we dwell we will always remain unaware, stuck in an

Lincoln s plan in 1863 involved issuing Ten Percent Plan, to offer amnesty to any
southerner if they would proclaim their loyalty to the Union and also supported the
emancipation of the slaves. If ten percent of the state s voters in the election of 1860
took this oath to the United States only then could they develop a new state
government required to abolish slavery. After this then the state could reenter into the
Union with complete privileges such as crucial apportionment to the Senate and
House of Representatives (Schultz, n.d). However Republicans within Congress
wanted to punish the South so they passed the Wade Davis Bill which required fifty
percent instead of ten percent taking an oath of loyalty. Also if southerners wanted to

Included in these acts were the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the act for creating the

officials and some military officers to run for public office or their rights to vote

slaves were given the right to hold public office and the right to vote by the
Reconstruction acts. Two amendments to the Constitution were passed by Congress.
The Fourteenth Amendment protected citizens from state laws that were

Role Of Ghost In Hamlet
Question 12
Shakespeare s introduction of a ghost in Hamlet serves various objectives in the
play, to the characters as well as the audience. The ghost is a controversial character
who challenges the audience s view of the plot, the motifs, as well as the flow of
events in the story. The appearance of the ghost is associated with tragedy, usually
where the humans entangle with the supernatural forces, but in this case, the ghost
seems to conform to human capabilities and relies on other human beings to meet its
objectives. The presentation of the ghost in the play, from its motives to its
appearance highlight the human traits over the supernatural capabilities. The
characteristics of the ghost suggest that it might be a construct of Hamlet, and his
friends, in trying to make sense of the events leading to the death of his father, as
well as a coping mechanism. The narrative gives Hamlet, a son who loved his
father, justification as well as the reason to execute revenge against his uncle who
took the father s life despite the deviation that exists in his character. Hamlet is
considered as the calm and collected character, and engaging in violence is not part
of his personality, and as such the conviction that Hamlet is mad.
The ghost is Hamlet is presented as a vengeful character, Hamlet s father, the fallen
king, murdered by his brother. These attributes of his character draw from the theme
of revenge associated with the works of Shakespeare, and the audience is allowed the

I sat down in the chair while the artist prepared his instruments. I wasn t afraid.
This wasn t my first time, and I knew it wouldn t be the last. In fact, I was getting

trained commercial artist and a very close friend. We had worked for over a year on

My body tensed, awaiting the machine on my skin. He asked, Ready? I just nodded
my head. It s never what you think it will be. The machine touched my skin. My

When this happened, the tradition of being tattooed was left to only chiefs and their
sons. Today, the Samoans have gone back to their won tradition of allowing everyone
to be tattooed.
You don t have to be a biker or a convict to be tattooed. People have been marking
their bodies since the beginning of time; Tattooing is the oldest art form around
(Austin 18). There is evidence that our ancient ancestors were marking their bodies
10,000 years ago and recently a 4,000 year old, tattooed warrior was discovered in the
Austrian alps (18). Tattooing is not new to human culture. Tattooing has been used to
differentiate between tribes of people, mark the passing of childhood into adulthood,
and commemorate courageous deeds (18). Even our earliest civilization, ancient
Egypt, used tattooing. Archaeologists have found tattooed female mummies dating
back to 4000 B.C.
Other civilizations after the Egyptians used tattoos. The Romans were one such
civilization. They tattooed their faces; today, facial tattooing is called mocha. The
Romans probably began to tattoo their bodies after encountering a wild tribe of

people they encountered Picts because they had pictures all over their bodies. We

Locke Vs Berkeley
In the Mind or In the World? Do objects exist in the Physical world? This discussion
has been around for generations. Philosophers like John Locke and George Berkeley
have presented their theories about the basics of human understanding, but both ideas
are contradicting. Although both Locke and Berkeley proved their position on
whether primary qualities and secondary qualities exist in the real world, Locke has
provided a more coherent argument. In Locke s essay, An Essay Concerning Human
Understanding, he explains where and how one s knowledge was formed. He
reiterates that Whatsoever the Mindperceives in it self, or is the immediate object of
Perception, Thought, or Understanding, that I call Idea; and the Power to produce in

He as well said that humans are like objects when it comes to existence, God s idea.
Berkeley said, This perceiving, active being is what I call mind, spirit, soul or
myself (Berkeley, 55). Since he believes that everything exists in the mind, Locke s
primary and secondary qualities are only a collection of idea. Berkeley says,
...Colours and tastes exist only in the mind...and to prove the same thing of
extension, figure and motion (Berkeley, 57). Berkeley argues that ... Various
sensations, or ideas imprinted on the sense, however blended or combined together,
cannot exist otherwise in a mind perceiving them (Berkeley, 55). He explains that
ideas can only resemble ideas, therefore, external objects does not exist since it
cannot create perception. When we think about a certain object, to Berkeley, it is not
that he thinks that it does not exist, rather he believes that it is merely a collection of

Why I Became a Speech Pathologist Essay
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. I can hear one of my grandmother s highly
regarded quotes resonating inside my head. Apprehension consumed me when I
entered college as an undecided major. Unexpectedly that all changed a few weeks
into my first semester. My grandmother had a stroke which ultimately affected her
speech and was in dire need of a Speech Pathologist. This is what initially sparked
my interest in this field. I was determined on working with the geriatric population
because of the experience and attachment I endured with my grandmother. However,
the irrefutable fact that this is my passion became evident when I started working as
an Assistant Teacher at Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech. At Clarke I currently

While I am learning an abundance of valuable information at Clarke, my
background knowledge derived from my undergraduate studies. I double majored
in Speech Pathology and Psychology at Brooklyn College because I believe they
compliment each other well when it comes to the studies of speech. Different
aspects of Psychology including cognitive science, neuroscience, and biology are
essential in understanding speech disorders, language processing, production,
acquisition, and comprehension. In my second year at Brooklyn College, I
observed children at a nearby elementary school for 50 hours. During this time I
observed how children at the kindergarten level interacted with each other. I
shadowed the teacher in order to learn different teaching strategies that will be
beneficial and applicable as a Speech Therapist. The opportunity to observe the work
overview of a Speech Pathologist, has tremendously solidified my interest in this
field. At the Diana Rogovin Speech Center at Brooklyn College, I observed clients of
various ages with different speech language disorders including articulation, language,
voice, fluency and accent modification. Observing clinicians at the speech center
gave me the opportunity to learn how important client clinician interaction is for the
session and how essential it is to build a good relationship with the client. Although I

The Standards Of Aesthetic Judgment Essay
STANDARDS OF AESTHETIC JUDGMENT ESSAY
My standards of aesthetic judgment have dramatically shifted from undergrad to
present; and I am quite sure they may shift again as I grow older. I begin here due
to the fact that in undergrad; I was fixated on presentation and visuals of a piece of
art rather than the content/concept. I wanted all work to be technically sound,
meaning; craftsmanship was my driving force in the beginning and I would dismiss
any work that wasn t. As I have grown, in years, wisdom and hopefully as an artist
as well; I hope to have a bit more understanding when it comes to the variety, talent
and passion for art and the artist. This allows me to be more understanding and opens
up a better path to reflect on:
1.Where does the art come from?
2. Why is the art made?
3. Is it successful? Where does the art come from is a huge question that I ask myself
when evaluating a piece of art. I have been fortunate to judge Vase (a visual art
competition that ranges elementary to high school level) and with each piece I must
take it in as a new individual piece of art. On the same note, I have been fortunate
enough to help with UIL OAP contest and rated productions with other critics on the
criteria we/I thought to be of value. So the where does it come, pertains to the level
of experience and knowledge of that medium: novice, intermediate, advanced,
professional. Why is the art made, I believe is the hardest for all to understand when
evaluating a piece of art.
Examples Of Deception In The Crucible
While all deception requires secrecy, all secrecy is not meant to deceive. This clear
and concise quote was expressed by Sissela Bok, a Swedish American philosopher
and the daughter of two Nobel Prize winners. See deception is a concept that is
practically glorified lying to grasp an advantage upon something. In The Crucible we
see many depictions of deception. Nearly all coming from Abigail. Abigail is a
decisive teenager who seeks people s pain in order to get her way. Abigail seeks not
only power, but she also seeks the love and marriage of John Proctor. Abigail s
character nature consists of nearly total deception.
Our first example of decisiveness given from Abigail is her first lie. The lie took place
early in the novel and stated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Other examples would include the constant lies the girls displayed in order to

Chile s Economic Freedom
Introduction
CHILE
From the point of view of economy freedom, Chile s score is 78.7 (2014 Index of
Economic Freedom Chile, 2014). This makes Chile s economy the 7th free
economy in the index of 2014. The total ranking is a bit lower than previous year.
There is a change, to be more precise it s a positive change in the investing figures
of Chile. Chile is considered at a very high position with regards to its economic
freedom in Southern and the Central parts of America. Chile s economy has been
constantly considered as one of the most freely run economies in its 20 year old
history of index. It has also been successful in achieving economic freedom, which
is highly impressive at 70. There are 10 economic freedom concepts, out of which
three have been successful in gaining a score of 20 points or above since 1995.
Those three economic freedom concepts are corruption freedom, freedom for
investing and financial ease of freedom. Looking at Chile s high levels of efficient
operations, monetary freedom and business freedom has improved efficiently as well.
Chile is considered worldwide leader in economic freedom. It continues to go by the
concept of limited government through public financial management. Through this
concept Chile has been successful in keeping its finance debts and deficits under
control. Chile has actively participated in Trans Pacific partnership negotiations and
this further shows that it has been steadily committed to its trade and business
relations.
Female Sexuality in Shakespeare
Question Compare and contrast the representation of female sexuality in
Cymbeline, the Sonnets, and one of the plays: A Midsummer Night s Dream,
Richard II, Hamlet, Antony and Cleopatra, Measure for Measure or King Lear.
Both Cymbeline and A Midsummer Night s Dream (AMND) are both set in a
patriarchal environment where both genders grapple for control. Valerie Traub
defines the distinction between gender sex and gender behavior as Sex refers to the
. . . biological distinctions between male and female bodies. Gender refers to those
meanings derived from the division of male and female . . . the attributes considered
appropriate to each: masculine and feminine. (Valerie Traub, Gender and Sexuality in

Hydrogen Extraction Process For The Recovery Of Heavy
Oil...
Abstract
Vapor extraction process for the recovery of heavy oil and bitumen was originally
proposed by Dr. Butler during 1989 1991. Since its evolution, vapor extraction has
emerged as a very effective and promising technique mainly due to its environment
friendly nature and cost effectiveness as compared to other recovery techniques.
Vapex is basically an in situ recovery process which injects a vaporized
hydrocarbon solvent in the injection well to reduce the viscosity the heavy oil and
bitumen and allows it to drain out of the production well through gravity drainage.
Mass transfer of vaporized solvent to heavy oil and the gravity drainage are the key
parameters which mainly determine the production rate of heavy oil and bitumen
with reduced viscosity. This report provides a brief idea about the current heavy oil
and bitumen deposits in Canada, a better insight of the Vapex process and the factors
which affect the efficiency of the process. Several factors that scale up the
performance of the process and important limitations are also indentified that need
further research for future growth of the process.
INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Energy is the most important factor for growth and development. Petroleum being the
primary source of energy can be categorized into conventional and non conventional
forms based on the viscosity and API gravity. Heavy oil and Bitumen are the non
conventional forms of energy which are often referred as oil sands or tar sands having

away from her home in the country. Although the path is difficult and has many

Phoenix Jackson. Phoenix is described as a very old and frail woman that walks
with a cane out in front of her, indicating poor vision. The story begins on a cold

difficult path that Phoenix must take. The beginning paragraph also reiterates that

However, when she went to go grab it, she realized that there was nothing there:
She did not dare to close her eyes, and when a little boy brought her a plate with a

until she reached a field of dead corn where she mistook a scarecrow for a ghost:

Phoenix s vision and hallucinations impact the story by providing more evidence of
her bravery and just how lonely she is. A phoenix is a mythical bird that would live
for 500 years, be consumed by fire and then rise from its own ashes. The name
Phoenix is appropriate for the main character because she is very old, wise, and
strong. Phoenix has traveled the same worn path several times over the years. She
knows the many challenges she faces including nature, persecution from others, and
her health. Like the bird, Phoenix continues to rise every time she must travel to town

Big Brother Is Watching You Analysis
1984 predicted the totalitarian government control of the media which concerns
many citizens today. The citizens of Oceania feared Big Brother as he symbolized
the extent of the power of the Party. Posters were plastered everywhere with the
caption Big Brother is Watching You (Orwell 2), with eyes that looked as if they
were staring at you. Big Brother had control of all the media and determined what
you were told, saw, and read. In 1984, propaganda such as the Two Minutes Hate was
used by the Party against the citizens who had philosophical differences with the
government. Likewise, this medium was also a means to empower those who agreed.
The people in charge can control a population by entrapping in the crisis of the NOW,
advancing their agenda without much opposition from the citizenry (Whitehead 4).

government used propaganda to control the people s beliefs (Bai 17). For the

Censorship As A Multi Million Dollar Market
American singer songwriter and poet, Jim Morrison, once said whoever controls the
media, controls the mind. With the power to dictate what information an individual
is allowed and not allowed to access, comes also the power to mould a society to
whatever belief system that is desired. Advertising which has a rich history that can
be traced back to early cave paintings, is a medium for persuasion and is often used
by businesses and organisations to promote their products and ideas. Advertising
being a multi million dollar market for promoting a wide array of ideas, however,
does not have freedom in itself to promote all ideas. It is assumed that the guiding
force behind a censorship act has the entire control to set what a society believes.
Censorship which can be defined as the suppression of information, acts to protect, to
promote and to prevent. Censorship can be and is applied to advertising. This,
censorship in advertising, is determined by varied factors. Political agendas can be
noted as one determining factor in censorship. Germany under Adolf Hitlers rule
(1933 1945) is a reflection of such. Hitler wanted his people to believe that the
Jewish people within the society were bad and promoted that Nazism was right. The
Nazis orchestrated a massive propaganda campaign to win the loyalty and
cooperation of Germans (Holocaust Encyclopedia). The article further posits that,
Hitler s trusted advisor, Dr Joseph Goebbels, was appointed the leader of the Ministry

The Stapedial Or Acoustic Reflex ( Ar )
ABSTRACT:
The Stapedial or Acoustic Reflex (AR) is the contraction of the stapedius muscle in
response to an adequately loud sound. Bilateral reflex pathways are involved in this
occurrence. The aim of the study was to compare the test retest variability on an
individual, following a short interval, after the initial test, and also to compare the
ARs with pure tone thresholds. The subject had a normal hearing sensitivity, with
bilateral A type tympanogram, which indicated normal functioning of the middle ear,
and bilateral AR thresholds within normal limits. It was delineated that AR was
elicited with requisite intense acoustic signal and this test can be used as a diagnostic
tool in collaterally with pure tone audiometry.
INTRODUCTION:
When a sufficiently intense acoustic signal is presented to either of the ears,
stapedius muscle in both the ears contract, as a response to this sound. This
phenomenon is termed as AR.
Stapes, the smallest middle ear ossicle is attached with a small striated muscle
(stapedius muscle) on the side. In response to a loud sound, this muscle contracts,
pulling the stapes laterally, which in turn reduced the force by which the footplate of
the stapes propels against the oval window. This action permits a considerable
protection against loud and stable background noise, but not against sudden loud
sounds (e.g.: bomb blast).
There are several theories stating the need for AR.
пѓ Protection theory: states that AR protects the cochlear
Compare And Contrast Holland s Theory Of Personality
And...
Holland s theory of personality and occupational types This theory suggests that
people can be characterised in terms of their resemblance to each of the six
personality types referred to as the modal personal orientations: Realistic,
Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional (RIASEC). When
people see the connection between themselves and the personality type, the more
likely they are to possess the traits and behaviours associated with that particular
personality type. Similarly, career and occupational environments can also be
characterised in terms of their similarities and support of the six personality types
referred to as modal occupation orientations. The six basic modal personality
orientations and six modal occupation orientations... Show more content on

Furthermore, while Holland suggests that people can be categorised as one of six
types, he also argues that a six category scheme built on the assumption that there
are only six kinds of people in the world is unacceptable on the strength of common
sense alone. But a six category scheme that allows a simple ordering of a person s
resemblance to each of the six models provides a possibility of 720 different
personality patterns. Four basic theoretical constructs Congruence: this refers to the
compatibility between a person s personality type and the environment. For example,
when an artistic person (dancer) works in an artistic environment (dance studio).
Consistency: this refers to the similarity among the personality types and the
environment. For example, a realistic person (caterer) working in an artistic
environment (a restaurant). There tends to be a similarity in these because caterers
have to be creative and come up with interesting food combination on the menu to
attract new and sustain old
Conversions of Alcohols to Alkyl Halides
Conversions of Alcohols to Alkyl Halides: 1 Propanol and 2 Pentanol Introduction
One way scientist gets alkyl halides is by using the manipulation of an alcohol.
When alcohols are treated with HBr or HCl; they can undergo a nucleophile
substation reaction to generate an alkyl halide and water2. Using the structure of
the alcohols they are able to use SN1 or SN2 mechanisms. For both these
mechanisms though, the OH group must be pronated shown in Figure 1. R OH +
H Br+ R OH2 +Br Figure 1. This figure is the protonation of the OH group from the
alcohol SN1 is a limiting mechanism that is a unimolecular nucleophic substation
reaction. In this mechanism it involves two steps, one in which the leaving group
leaves and then forms a carbocation intermediate, shown in figure 2. Then it is able
to break bonds between carbon and making it able for carbon to leave the group
before the bond forming with nucleophile begins1. R OH2R+ + H2O Br Figure
2.In this figure it shows the cation intermediate that is forming and the attack of Br
resulting in the production of RBr While the mechanisms for SN2 is a biomolecular
reaction. These two species are involved in the rate determine step3. Once the
nucleophile attacks, though it is allowed to form a nucleophile, that then forms a
transition state and then results in the final product, as shown in Figure 3. + R OH2

Sexual Offenders Case Study
The conclusion of the case study is that sexual offenders that score 23 or higher on
the limbic system checklist indicates that they have dysfunction disorder on the
limbic system. If an offender has 23 or less on the limbic checklist indicates that
they are less likely to be sex offender. The outcome of the case study is 33 percent
of the inmates was found to have dysfunction disorder on the limbic system. MMI
report the inmates that are in the f category has mental problems and dysfunctions of
the limbic system. Some of the mental problems of the inmates are schizophrenia and
bipolar disorder. Sexual offenders with this disorder are most likely to commit the
same crimeagain (Pallone Voelbel, 2011). In this case study, the researchers

My Mother Essays. Short descriptive essay about my mother in 200-250 words MOTHER

  • 1. My Mother Essays Writing an essay about my mother might seem like a straightforward task at first glance. After all, who knows our mothers better than we do? However, the challenge lies not in the familiarity of the subject but in the depth of emotions and experiences that one must convey. The difficulty arises from the delicate balance between capturing the essence of a mother's influence and avoiding clichГ©s and superficial sentiments. To begin with, there is the struggle to encapsulate a lifetime of memories, sacrifices, and love into a coherent and engaging narrative. The complexity of the mother-child relationship adds another layer of intricacy. It's not just about listing her admirable qualities but understanding the nuances of how those qualities have shaped one's own character. Moreover, finding a unique angle or perspective that stands out from the myriad of similar essays can be challenging. The risk of falling into overly sentimental or generic expressions is ever- present. Striking the right balance between showcasing a mother's virtues and acknowledging her imperfections requires finesse in writing. Furthermore, the emotional involvement in the topic can make it difficult to maintain objectivity and coherence in the essay. While personal anecdotes and emotions are vital for conveying the depth of one's feelings, they need to be crafted in a way that resonates universally, allowing readers to connect with the narrative. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "My Mother" is challenging not because of a lack of material or familiarity with the subject, but rather due to the need for profound introspection, careful expression, and the ability to transcend clichГ©s. It's a tribute that demands genuine thoughtfulness and a delicate touch to capture the essence of one of the most influential relationships in a person's life. And for those seeking assistance with such heartfelt compositions, a variety of essays, including those on similar topics, can be conveniently ordered on HelpWriting.net. The platform provides professional help in transforming personal experiences into eloquent and meaningful essays. My Mother Essays My Mother Essays
  • 2. Literary Techniques In The Highwayman Kyle Cantrell Professor Toni 16 November 2017 Riding The highwayman is a beloved historical look on the traditional forbidden love story that is filled with imagery and unexpected moments to keep the reader interested. Alfred Noyes doesn t experiment with new writing techniques or revolutionary storylines. However he utilizes elements and techniques that have been used for centuries. This common story line of the thief or robber who has a forbidden love is common among many classic english works of literature. Noyes was purposefully giving his readers a taste of an England that was already long gone by 1906. The Highwayman uses literary devices such as repetition, imagery, and rhyming to advance the story and contribute to the plot in a meaningful way to the reader. The Highwayman follows the story of a young highwayman who is on his way to visit his love Bess at her father s large in. A highwayman is a man on horseback who stops people on the road and robs them of their belongings. He is in a hurry so once he arrives at the inn he only has time for one quick kiss for Bess and then he has to ride off into the hills. He promised Bess that he will be back the next night, and she waits in anticipation. The next night British soldiers take who hate the highwayman and want to put an end to his rides tie up Bess and hold her at gunpoint as they wait for his arrival. As the night goes on Bess becomes more inconsolable and worried as the impending doom of her love grows
  • 3. Notting Hill Interview In early February of 2017, my eighty six year old grandmother fell and broke her arm in two places. Since then, she has been in a rehabilitation center called the Notting Hill of West Bloomfield. My family wanted the best care and recovery for my grandmother. After extensive research, my family found that Notting Hill was rated very highly for its physical and occupational therapy, and it did. However, from the first day the my grandmother was there, my grandmother, other familymembers of mine, and I noticed an unfortunate phenomenon that still occurs at this facility; patients are not being taken care of properly by the nurses and aides. There is a poor response time to the help light, there are many medication errors, there is frequent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an interview with PBS, A.C. Thompson discusses his findings when he investigated a prestigious living facility with high ratings: There was a pattern of problems that spanned the country. And what we kept seeing were allegations and citations for a lack of staffing, not enough workers, a lack of training, workers who weren t trained enough, medication errors, people getting the wrong drugs over and over again. These were the kind of things that we saw, and these were the things that worried us about the industry as it evolves. This description of his findings are very consistent with experiences I have personally witnessed. Like my mother, Thompson talks poorly trained staff and the miniscule amount of staff. These factors are what allow for such poor care in these facilities that happen around the country. In this interview, Thompson voices concern for the future of assisted living. The PBS interview supports my claim that there is an inability to properly take care of patients in living facilities, and that it is dangerous to elderly people or those with disadvantages. One way in which Thompson strengthens my claim is through his use of the word pattern. This word shows how common these problems are across the country in assisted living facilities. These problems that he witnessed are dangerous and, as he put it,
  • 4. The Supreme Court The Supreme Court The purpose of the Supreme Court is to review or address cases that involve issues on a federal level or of constitutional law, just as appellate courts hear cases on a state level. Their responsibilities include deciding how to apply the principles of constitutional law to new matters and issues that arise in today s day to day legal process; they also play the role of the parent to lower federal appellate courts when their decisions on legal issues are contradicting to one another, overlap, goes against constitutional rights, or allows room for confusion as to whose decision takes precedent. Bottom line the purpose of the Supreme Court is to provide the rules and statues for state level courts to abide by when they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion this rule is of fairness because without drawing the line and having a court to reach a final decision and establish authority legal matters could stay in appeal courts for years, constantly being argued and picked apart. The part to the Supreme Courts process I will disagree with is being able to decide what cases to hear and the justices serving for life terms. In my opinion both of these factors allow room for bias and prejudice which should always be one of our constitutional rights that are highly upheld, giving the supreme Courts random cases to address during their term, increasing the length of their term allowing for more cases to be reviewed, and decreasing the term of each judges years of service by switching justices after a given period of time will allow for justice to be bigger than the messenger. Lab Report On Titration Introduction: The Objective of the lab is to determine the mass percent of ascorbic acid in a vitamin C tablet by titration with a sodium hydroxide solution of known concentration. A titration is a procedure in which we measure the volume of a solution of a solution of known concentration that is needed to completely react with volume of NaOH analyzing. A buret is used to measure the amount of NaOH in titrationand it is a piece of calibrated glassware used to accurately deliver volumes of a liquid or a solution. To determine when the neutralization reaction is complete by adding an acid base indicator(Phenolphthalein) and it changes color at the end point. • 6. The Discussion For This Week Is Group Dynamics The discussion for this week is Group Dynamics. Webster s dictionary defines group dynamics as the interacting forces within a small human group; also, the sociological study of these forces. A well renown change management expert and social psychologist Kurt Lewin. He created the phrase group dynamics in the mid 1940 s (Moreno,1953) He has written quite a bit about individuals choosing a distinctive characteristics and conduct when placed in a group. He studied the influence of the distinctive character and conduct on an individual and on the entire group (Moreno, 1953). I am sure we have all had experiences during our life, where we were required to work as a group, or be a part of a group. I am sure we can all share good experiences, as well as horror stories. I have hired on with different companies over the years, and I could tell early on whether the team I am assigned to would be a positive experience or negative experience. There are indicators that stand out clearly. The first thing I usually notice is whether the team is productive, is there trust amongst the team members, are team member held responsible for their jobs/projects, and is the team striving for a shared goal. When a team has negative group dynamics the shared goal is not reached and progress is not made. The team is not working at the optimum level that a company requires to remain successful and competitive. Kurt Lewin and other researchers have noted that teams with positive
  • 7. Newsies Movie Analysis Newsies, a classic musical based on the late 1800 s is a very entertaining and family friendly musical except for the few profane words. On a cloudy, partially rainy saturday morning, I laid out on the couch and watched the movie from the comfort of my own home. I was hesitant to watch this movie because I am not much of a musical person. About midway through I found myself at the edge of my seat hypnotized by the movie. As the movie drew to an end, I was completely sucked in and waited for something more. The movie I so dreadfully did not want to watch became something I did not want to end. In this movie the director and composer correlated their scenes and musicperfectly together to touch the thoughts and emotions of the audience watching. The Newsies movie is based on a group of young strong hearted newspaper boys that run the streets of New york City provoking newspaper sales just to have some food on the table for them to eat. Every morning the boys wake up early to go buy copies of the latest newspaper before it is all sold out. During a time when nothing media worthy was going on in New York City, greedy media moguls raised the prices of newspapers so they could stay cushioned on top of their business empires; however, raising the prices of newspaper on the boys meant less profit for them. The price raise did not settle well with the boys, and they began a strike to lower the prices. In doing so they earned the name Newsies. As the movie began to conclude, the

I believe that there are some people who do need to be put in solitary confinement and some who shouldn t have to go through that psychological pain. The movie did shine some perspective on to me, as i had not nearly any clue as to what really went down behind those walls. First of all, at Colorado State Penitentiary, they call it administrative segregation rather than solitary confinement. This is because their goal is supposedly, just to cut them off from physical contact until they are determined to be safe around other people. The feelings projected by the men being interviewed in the documentary tie in with the feelings that Stanley Tookie Williams expressed in his book, Life in Prison . All of the inmates, including Stanley, acknowledged that solitary confinement, or the hole, causes people to go crazy. Stanley complained of the small cells and how it made many men go stir crazy. In recent years this system has been challenged as women have recently been gaining traction in the political world, after a past of zero tolerance of women in politics there is still a major issue with the number of women in the political realm. Women are underrepresented in politics and government because although men in politics like to fight for equal rights for women, in reality they are hesitant to follow through at the cost of losing their own foothold in the political world. According to Oxford English Dictionary, feminism is the advocacy of women s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. Since feminism came to be, it has always been a crucial part of society. One of these theories is Liberal Feminism. The Liberals ideology is that freedom is a fundamental value, and that the state ensures freedom for individuals. Meanwhile, in most countries, such as Europe and the United Kingdom, patentability of software is on an ad hoc basis, where the certain tests and approaches are adopted and shifted over time. The more pressing question therefore relates to the scope to be accorded to software patents. Therefore, it is relevant to examine the reasons for opening or closing door for software patents to take a stand in assessing how broad or narrow the scope of patent protection should be. Some commentators argue that the optimal scope should be broad for the reasons set out below. First, given that copyright does not protect technical innovation and ideas of software, patent which protects such aspect may give satisfaction to the inventor for his hard work and intellect. • 23. The Kenyon Commencement Speech By David Foster Wallace I believe that existence is comprised of hundreds and millions of different realities intermingling and colliding into one another. I also believe that at the center of each reality there lies the individual who crafted it. Our perception of what is real and false exists solely in our own minds, and our minds are what determines the lense in which we perceive the world. Our perception is largely influenced by our psyche; how we live and think stems from our perception of the world. Our brains are directly influenced by a number of key factors, including but not limited to; societal connotations, individual experience, instinctual desires, environmental factors, and cognitive thought. These factors, as well as other conditions, are what determine our default setting. In his noteable This is Water speech, given at the 2005 Kenyon Commencement Address, David Foster Wallaceargues a similar idea as he explains his take on the phrase teaching you how to think . Through his use of relatable parables and anecdotes and repetition and reverent focus of words like choice and awareness he paints a livid picture of the use of conscious choice in our daily lives. He stresses the concept of a self centered default setting that comes from an individual s blind certainty and the repercussions that deferring to that default can have on an individual s lifestyle and fulfilment. The ghost is a controversial character who challenges the audience s view of the plot, the motifs, as well as the flow of events in the story. The appearance of the ghost is associated with tragedy, usually where the humans entangle with the supernatural forces, but in this case, the ghost seems to conform to human capabilities and relies on other human beings to meet its objectives. The presentation of the ghost in the play, from its motives to its appearance highlight the human traits over the supernatural capabilities. • 29. Why I Became a Speech Pathologist Essay If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. I can hear one of my grandmother s highly regarded quotes resonating inside my head. Apprehension consumed me when I entered college as an undecided major. Unexpectedly that all changed a few weeks into my first semester. My grandmother had a stroke which ultimately affected her speech and was in dire need of a Speech Pathologist. This is what initially sparked my interest in this field. I was determined on working with the geriatric population because of the experience and attachment I endured with my grandmother. However, the irrefutable fact that this is my passion became evident when I started working as an Assistant Teacher at Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech. At Clarke I currently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While I am learning an abundance of valuable information at Clarke, my background knowledge derived from my undergraduate studies. I double majored in Speech Pathology and Psychology at Brooklyn College because I believe they compliment each other well when it comes to the studies of speech. Different aspects of Psychology including cognitive science, neuroscience, and biology are essential in understanding speech disorders, language processing, production, acquisition, and comprehension. In my second year at Brooklyn College, I observed children at a nearby elementary school for 50 hours. During this time I observed how children at the kindergarten level interacted with each other. I shadowed the teacher in order to learn different teaching strategies that will be beneficial and applicable as a Speech Therapist. The opportunity to observe the work overview of a Speech Pathologist, has tremendously solidified my interest in this field. At the Diana Rogovin Speech Center at Brooklyn College, I observed clients of various ages with different speech language disorders including articulation, language, voice, fluency and accent modification. Observing clinicians at the speech center gave me the opportunity to learn how important client clinician interaction is for the session and how essential it is to build a good relationship with the client. Although I learned the
  • 30. The Standards Of Aesthetic Judgment Essay STANDARDS OF AESTHETIC JUDGMENT ESSAY My standards of aesthetic judgment have dramatically shifted from undergrad to present; and I am quite sure they may shift again as I grow older. I begin here due to the fact that in undergrad; I was fixated on presentation and visuals of a piece of art rather than the content/concept. I wanted all work to be technically sound, meaning; craftsmanship was my driving force in the beginning and I would dismiss any work that wasn t. As I have grown, in years, wisdom and hopefully as an artist as well; I hope to have a bit more understanding when it comes to the variety, talent and passion for art and the artist. This allows me to be more understanding and opens up a better path to reflect on: 1.Where does the art come from? 2. Why is the art made? 3. Is it successful? Where does the art come from is a huge question that I ask myself when evaluating a piece of art. I have been fortunate to judge Vase (a visual art competition that ranges elementary to high school level) and with each piece I must take it in as a new individual piece of art. On the same note, I have been fortunate enough to help with UIL OAP contest and rated productions with other critics on the criteria we/I thought to be of value. So the where does it come, pertains to the level of experience and knowledge of that medium: novice, intermediate, advanced, professional. Why is the art made, I believe is the hardest for all to understand when evaluating a piece of art.

This clear and concise quote was expressed by Sissela Bok, a Swedish American philosopher and the daughter of two Nobel Prize winners. See deception is a concept that is practically glorified lying to grasp an advantage upon something. In The Crucible we see many depictions of deception. Nearly all coming from Abigail. Abigail is a decisive teenager who seeks people s pain in order to get her way. Abigail seeks not only power, but she also seeks the love and marriage of John Proctor. Abigail s character nature consists of nearly total deception. Our first example of decisiveness given from Abigail is her first lie. The lie took place early in the novel and stated ... Other examples would include the constant lies the girls displayed in order to surpass links in the power chain . The girls gain absolute power when they reach the ability to prosecute anyone who challenges them. Abigail and her troop attempt to overthrow the court, and when they do they realize anyone who tries to stand in their way can t impose even the slightest threat. Any refusal will find the citizen as a culprit in the midst of the court. The girls found ways to corporate protesters with witchcraft. This led the protester to find themselves hanging by a noose or thrown behind bars. Once others realized the consequences, they gave up their efforts to fight Abigail and her troop. Chile is considered at a very high position with regards to its economic freedom in Southern and the Central parts of America. Chile s economy has been constantly considered as one of the most freely run economies in its 20 year old history of index. It has also been successful in achieving economic freedom, which is highly impressive at 70. • 34. Hydrogen Extraction Process For The Recovery Of Heavy Oil... Abstract Vapor extraction process for the recovery of heavy oil and bitumen was originally proposed by Dr. Butler during 1989 1991. Since its evolution, vapor extraction has emerged as a very effective and promising technique mainly due to its environment friendly nature and cost effectiveness as compared to other recovery techniques. Vapex is basically an in situ recovery process which injects a vaporized hydrocarbon solvent in the injection well to reduce the viscosity the heavy oil and bitumen and allows it to drain out of the production well through gravity drainage. Mass transfer of vaporized solvent to heavy oil and the gravity drainage are the key parameters which mainly determine the production rate of heavy oil and bitumen with reduced viscosity. This report provides a brief idea about the current heavy oil and bitumen deposits in Canada, a better insight of the Vapex process and the factors which affect the efficiency of the process. Several factors that scale up the performance of the process and important limitations are also indentified that need further research for future growth of the process. INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Energy is the most important factor for growth and development. Petroleum being the primary source of energy can be categorized into conventional and non conventional forms based on the viscosity and API gravity. Heavy oil and Bitumen are the non conventional forms of energy which are often referred as oil sands or tar sands having high

The citizens of Oceania feared Big Brother as he symbolized the extent of the power of the Party. Posters were plastered everywhere with the caption Big Brother is Watching You (Orwell 2), with eyes that looked as if they were staring at you. Big Brother had control of all the media and determined what you were told, saw, and read. In 1984, propaganda such as the Two Minutes Hate was used by the Party against the citizens who had philosophical differences with the government. Likewise, this medium was also a means to empower those who agreed. One solution was the idea of a telescreen which received and transmitted simultaneously (Orwell 3) nearly every comment and action of an individual. • 39. Censorship As A Multi Million Dollar Market American singer songwriter and poet, Jim Morrison, once said whoever controls the media, controls the mind. With the power to dictate what information an individual is allowed and not allowed to access, comes also the power to mould a society to whatever belief system that is desired. Advertising which has a rich history that can be traced back to early cave paintings, is a medium for persuasion and is often used by businesses and organisations to promote their products and ideas. Advertising being a multi million dollar market for promoting a wide array of ideas, however, does not have freedom in itself to promote all ideas. It is assumed that the guiding force behind a censorship act has the entire control to set what a society believes. Censorship which can be defined as the suppression of information, acts to protect, to promote and to prevent. Censorship can be and is applied to advertising. This, censorship in advertising, is determined by varied factors. Political agendas can be noted as one determining factor in censorship. Germany under Adolf Hitlers rule (1933 1945) is a reflection of such. Hitler wanted his people to believe that the Jewish people within the society were bad and promoted that Nazism was right. The Nazis orchestrated a massive propaganda campaign to win the loyalty and cooperation of Germans (Holocaust Encyclopedia). • 41. The Stapedial Or Acoustic Reflex ( Ar ) ABSTRACT: The Stapedial or Acoustic Reflex (AR) is the contraction of the stapedius muscle in response to an adequately loud sound. Bilateral reflex pathways are involved in this occurrence. The aim of the study was to compare the test retest variability on an individual, following a short interval, after the initial test, and also to compare the ARs with pure tone thresholds. The subject had a normal hearing sensitivity, with bilateral A type tympanogram, which indicated normal functioning of the middle ear, and bilateral AR thresholds within normal limits. It was delineated that AR was elicited with requisite intense acoustic signal and this test can be used as a diagnostic tool in collaterally with pure tone audiometry. INTRODUCTION: When a sufficiently intense acoustic signal is presented to either of the ears, stapedius muscle in both the ears contract, as a response to this sound. This phenomenon is termed as AR. Stapes, the smallest middle ear ossicle is attached with a small striated muscle (stapedius muscle) on the side. In response to a loud sound, this muscle contracts, pulling the stapes laterally, which in turn reduced the force by which the footplate of the stapes propels against the oval window. This action permits a considerable protection against loud and stable background noise, but not against sudden loud sounds (e.g.: bomb blast). There are several theories stating the need for AR. пѓ Protection theory: states that AR protects the cochlear

When people see the connection between themselves and the personality type, the more likely they are to possess the traits and behaviours associated with that particular personality type. Furthermore, while Holland suggests that people can be categorised as one of six types, he also argues that a six category scheme built on the assumption that there are only six kinds of people in the world is unacceptable on the strength of common sense alone. Four basic theoretical constructs Congruence: this refers to the compatibility between a person s personality type and the environment. For example, when an artistic person (dancer) works in an artistic environment (dance studio). Consistency: this refers to the similarity among the personality types and the environment. Conversions of Alcohols to Alkyl Halides Conversions of Alcohols to Alkyl Halides: 1 Propanol and 2 Pentanol Introduction One way scientist gets alkyl halides is by using the manipulation of an alcohol. When alcohols are treated with HBr or HCl; they can undergo a nucleophile substation reaction to generate an alkyl halide and water2. Using the structure of the alcohols they are able to use SN1 or SN2 mechanisms. For both these mechanisms though, the OH group must be pronated shown in Figure 1. R OH + H Br+ R OH2 +Br Figure 1. This figure is the protonation of the OH group from the alcohol SN1 is a limiting mechanism that is a unimolecular nucleophic substation reaction. In this mechanism it involves two steps, one in which the leaving group leaves and then forms a carbocation intermediate, shown in figure 2. Then it is able to break bonds between carbon and making it able for carbon to leave the group before the bond forming with nucleophile begins1.
