Review on the Novel Atonement
Review on Atonement
It is not often that the protagonist of a story be the anathema of the story as well and
it is even more of a rarity that the particular character be a young child. Yet, this is
exactly what Ian McEwan has done with his Crime Novel, Atonement. McEwan
intentionally turns his readers against Briony Tallis, a young girl transitioning from
the naivete of childhood into the new and confusing years of adolescence; a point in
one s life when mistakes are dubbed as necessary stepping stones to further
understand one s self rather than life long regrets and unsubduable self loathing.
McEwan takes the innocence of childhood and juxtaposes it with despicable crimes
and unchangeable mistakes, thus creating a protagonist the ... Show more content on

Robbie Turner is trying to survive each turbulent day in war with thoughts of Cecilia
as motivation. McEwan describes World War Two brilliantly by creating scenes of
unthinkable death and suffering whilst threading hope and love to convey the
complexities of war. It s during these pages that the reader realizes the full
consequence of Briony s actions. Briony herself, witnessing the horror and
carnage of war in the hospital, is distraught as ever about the incident. She has
stopped writing thus imprisoning the same imagination that destroyed so many
relationships. Cecilia defended Robbie against her family, and in doing so cut
them off entirely, the foremost being Briony. This only intensifies the readers
distaste for Briony and the effect she let herself make. Her internal conflict evolves
for the worse with time, and even with the sacrifices she makes, it is clear
atonement is far off in the distance from herself, her family, Robbie, or the
reader.McEwan takes what is ethical and distorts it using the relationships between
the characters. He uses some of the most sensitive relationships, such as sisters and
lovers, to evoke questions in the reader: what mistake could lead to a loss of
family? Of love? Family is often a symbol of eternal love, but in Atonement, that
symbol is shattered. The bonds of family love cannot always be healed with
apologies. McEwan integrates the unchangeable law that an action must have a
reaction, some of which, can never be
The Role Of Male And Female Roles In Society
In general, the male and female roles in society at that time were very different.
Ultimately, the males were the ones with the most power. Thus, they seemed to
think they knew what is best for the lady s. Still, she is suffering from depression
and went to two different doctors. My brother is also a physician, and also of high
standing, and he says the same thing (). John is a highly looked upon physician, he
tries to make life choices for her that he knows what is best for her, but does he
really? Power was everything to men it made them who they were. Therefore, if they
didn t have power, they were viewed as weak and unsuccessful in life.
In addition, the female role was very different from the male role. Moreover, women
were seen as very dependent on the male. The male made the choices and the
female did whatever they are told. Therefore, they were more likely to stay at home
and tend to house work while their husband was away at work. Sadly, they didn t
seem to get much of a social life. Ultimately, if they wanted to go somewhere they
had to ask permission of the man, but if the man was not around they would do what
they wanted to. Ironically, the women would tend to hide things from the men
because they would disapprove of their choices. Unfortunately, it was a period of
time in which women didn t have much power and were forced to live under a rock.
Furthermore, the men wanted them to be blind to the truth, so they couldn t over
power them.

Cardiovascular System Vs Respiratory System Essay
The human body is not simply just an organism, or just body. The body is comprised
of many different systems. Although these systems all work together with one
common goal, to maintain homeostasis, perhaps there are not two systems that work
more closely together than the respiratory system and the cardiovascular system.
Although the entirety of each body system has a generalized common goal, these two
systems share a relationship. The both focus on providing oxygen to the blood, and
then ensuring that this richly oxygenated blood is circulated throughout the body.
The whole human organism would fail if it lacked just one of these systems, and the
individual systems would fail without each other. To fully understand how the two
work together, one must fully realize the functions of each system apart. The
respiratory is not one of the biggest systems of the body, but it is one of the most
commonly known. However, this system is not simply for breathing or the lung
system . In fact, these notions only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two most significant to the coexistence of both systems being the pulmonary
artery and pulmonary vein. The pulmonary artery carries the blood lacking in
oxygen into the lungs (Bailey). From there, the oxygen from the air sacs goes into
the blood vessel, while the carbon dioxide comes out (How Does Oxygen Get Into the
Bloodstream) . Upon this moment, the organism exhales releasing the carbon
dioxide. Meanwhile, the now oxygenated blood travels throughout the body, which
especially important for the muscles. Oxygen is required for the muscles to preform
any sort of strenuous activity. Faster paced breathing and an elevated heart rate aren t
random symptoms of a good work out. The blood must quickly transfer oxygen to the
muscles. This is so that the muscles have the ability to create adenosine tri phosphate
(ATP) which carries

The heritage of the Conquista, the conquest of Middle and South America by the
Spanish presents itself nowadays mostly in a culinary fashion: cocoa, chocolate, corn,
tomatoes. Albeit living in a global age, lesser known and little researched is the music
origination in the New World; music that interlinks the cultures of three continents.
Beside the less pleasant actions undertaken by both the European clerical and secular
subjugators, it was also the conquistadores that brought musicalong with them from
the old continent. This music quickly spread throughout the colonies and settlements.
Exposed to local influences, the music was soon shaped to please the local ear. After
all, when the Dominican and the Jesuit missionaries took off to preach the gospel,
music was one of their most important messengers. Most notably in Mexico, Bolivia
and Peru, a breathtaking wealth of music has been written in the 17th and 18th
century. Even though we are not to forget the brutal... Show more content on

Greek Art Vs. The Mural Of Iphigenia
There are many ways art can be depicted and done. Every culture usually has their
own unique sense of style when it comes to art. Art can be abstract, naturalistic,
idealism, realism and etcetera. Art is a good way to capture different cultures,
rituals and history. There are some similarities and differences between each culture
s art. Especially when it has to do with different time periods. Two cultures that have
major differences in art are Egyptians and the Greeks. You can see these differences
in the mural of Iphigenia during the Greeks Hellenistic era and the mural in the
Tomb of Queen Nefertari in Thebes, Egypt. The mural of Iphigenia, is located in
Tauris Pompeii. This mural was depicted in the Hellenistic era, which dates around...

Queen Nefertari s tomb is considered to be the largest in the Valley of the Queens.
It is located in Thebes Egypt and was painted around 1260 B.C. During this era, art
in Egypt consisted of the portrayal of gods and about the deceased in the afterlife.
This mural depicts a god and a deceased. Also one of the major techniques in art in
Egypt was the usage of hierarchical proportions, which symbolized power in
paintings. Usually the Pharaoh or someone who holds some sort of power was
painted bigger than any other person in the illustration. In this mural the artist did
not use this technique; both of them are the same size, which indicates that they
both hold certain importance in the drawing. One was a Queen and the other is
considered to be a god. The mural is painted in a profile view, with only the right
side of their bodies being fully visible. We are able to see both of their arms,
shoulders, hands and feet. The color pallet that is used in this mural isn t very
warm, it has more of a harsh tone to it. The artist used a lot of bright and dark
colors. The skin tone of the Queen and the god do not seem really naturalistic.
Especially the facial features do not seem realistic. This painting would be
considered to be more abstract than any other style.. The lines are very thick and
dark, which causes one to see the outline around their bodies and facial features. The
lack of shadows has made this mural to not have any drapery and any depth. There is
no folding of their clothing. What they are wearing is drawn very flat, but with a
great amount of patterns. In this painting the artist used a great deal of patterns. You
can see different usages of patterns starting from the bottom of the painting till the top
of the painting. What the queen and the sun god are sitting have the same pattern. It
has three different colors in it black green and red. There are patterns on the queens
How Did The Progressive Era Affect The Economy
The Progressive Era provided a much needed counterbalance to the economic boom
in the United States in the couple of decades prior. It provided a significant increase
in regulations to the industries that were running rampant with corruption during the
Gilded Age that had not been regulated by the government prior to this era. This
helped protect the workers from abuses in the workplace and also gave workers
increased protections while at work. The Progressive Erapermanently changed the
American culture by having the federal government start to play a major role in the
regulation of private businesses to protect workers and consumers. The Gilded Age
in the decades prior played a large part in the emergence of the Progressive Era.

Many of the laws put on the book at this time are still in place now. This era helped
make America stronger as a whole as it was vital in decreasing the tension between
the upper class and the lower class as now the lower class was not being exploited
in the ways that they were being exploited before laws to protect them were put in
place. Prior to this time you had the upper class living their lives with very little
interaction with those who were not a part of their class (McGerr 4). Progressive Era
changes have a major impact to the present day because the laws passed at this time
have been built upon and the government is continuing on the path that started during

The Museum Experience
One of my favorite things to do when traveling in a new city is to visit the museums.
I have never been to a city that did not offer the usual museum fare, usually in the
form of the Anytown Art Museum , or the Anytown Museum of Natural History .
While these types of museums house some incredible artifacts, and I do visit them
often, I also like to seek out museums of a more unusual sort.
Museums are mostly the same just about everywhere you go, both in the United
States and Europe. They offer the visitor a glimpse into the past culture of any given
city or country by displaying relics found throughout the world. But there are also
many museums that showcase artifacts of the culture in a much more ... Show more

The most profound image I took away from the Barbie collection was the
development and various uses of plastics from those early years to today. Toy
museums are popular for two reasons, they show an aspect of a culture that an art or
history museum may not address, but more importantly, they take the visitor back to
their own childhood when they see the toys that they played with when they were
young, and awaken the imagination again in ways not known for years. Another
popular topic for museums in Europe is the torture museum. The Dungeon, in Prague
is the only one I have visited, but there are several others as well in Germany and
France.
In fact, there is a website devoted to torture museums in Europe. Torture was a
common practice in Medieval Europe both for punishment and gathering information,
and I suppose the fascination lives on. The Dungeon displays some interesting
instruments used in the Middle Ages. They run the gamut from the traditional
thumbscrew, to various brands that were used to signify the type of crime committed,
to some very painful looking stretching racks, ankle screws, and hanging devices.
One interesting device, called the Crown of Thorns is an iron ring with several nails
woven into it. This ring is placed on the prisoner and pounded down around his skull

fetishes or kinks I catered to in my past was a mile wide. Id like to touch on one in
particular that I used to do called Sissyfication. In other words, I would take men.
dress them up as women, make them imitate women and feminize them. For some,
these actions I used to force upon them was an ultimate form of humiliation. To srip
them of their naatural manhood, and to subject them to imitate a woman was so
unnatural to them. Now I understand why many was so uncomfortable to this aspect
of kink. It was due to the fact that I was forcing them to be molding into something
God had not created them to be. Throught the years I discovered the many different
facets of feminization. I had an uncanny ability to push men, their boundaries and
their limits because I had sixth sense of the things they hide deep into their souls....

I recall that that stunt in particular caused an uproar with some folks...but I was
apathetic to it. I was proud. I was boastful. I was sinful and I marveled in the

many men I met out there who was into crossdressing. So when I see a man like

Austin Phillips
Austin Phillips is a massive human being. He measures a towering six and a half
feet tall and two hundred and fifty pounds. He has a wingspan of six feet and eight
inches but is not a string bean by any means. As a football player here at Ashland,
he spends a majority of his time lifting and playing football, making him fairly
thick. His hair is a dirty shade of red and he has rosy cheeks and small squinty eyes.
To those who might pass him on the street or face him on the football field, he
might look like a complete wolf. And he has the potential to be one. However, I
would argue that he is as far from being a wolf as a person could possibly be. He has
the appearance of a wolf, but the qualities of a true sheepdog. Austin Phillips is a

Any man off of the street can look at Austin Phillips and know that he has the
capability to be violent simply because he is a massive and intimidating human
being. However, in his case, violence and aggression are never used inappropriately
or unnecessarily. It is used situationally. This is one of my favorite qualities of
Austin. When describing the sheepdog, Grossman says, ...the sheepdog must not,
cannot and will not ever harm the sheep (Grossman 2). Austin simply does not
have the ability to harm people, animals, plants, or even rocks. For example, we
went geode hunting this summer and naturally, when we were finished, we
smashed them to see the crystals inside. For most, this is the most exciting part of
geode hunting, but Austin found it to be unbearable. He could not smash the
rocks because he claimed, it hurt [his] feelings . However, when it comes to
innocent people, Austin would go to extreme measures to protect them. This is
shown in the case of one of his younger brothers who had gotten himself into a bit
of trouble a few years ago with another kid about our age named Blake. Blake was a
wolf and he was beating up on Austin s younger brother. Naturally, as a sheepdog,
Austin ran to jump in between the two of them and took the punch for his brother.
And I know that he would do the same for anyone else in a heartbeat because he is a
sheepdog, and sheepdogs protect innocent people. However,
Prioritizing It Project Management Portfolio

Portfolio The realities of shrinking IT budgets and increasing dependence on IT in
organizations in recent years has resulted in a situation in which there is an intense
competition for resources needed to execute and complete IT projects. According to
Ross (2007), the shrinking IT budget in the face of increasing demand has brought
new pressures to the IT function. To gain approval and funding for projects, IT
departments must demonstrate that such new project will either result in cost saving,
increased sales, or result in greater enterprise wide efficiency (Ross, 2007). The

The Importance Of Environmental Justice
In todays world, there are a fair share of groups with opposing viewpoints as well
as mindsets, which often leads to conflict. Certainly the forestry world has had its
fare share of people in power making decisions based on whats best for them finically
or personally, and not what is best for the community and/or forest. Deep ecology
includes a large majority of the same concepts in which they want to work towards
the best interest of the forest and environment, and for the majority focus on the fact
that humans are interfering with the forest to much as it is, and it needs to be
changed (Naess, 264). Environmental justice focuses on how currently there is an
elitist membership and narrow scope in the current conventional environmental
practices and tries to work towards sustainability(Gottlieb 1993). When both of
these collide they create what is knows as Wicked Problems , they go beyond
scientific, economic, and techno rational analysis and methods of problem solving
( Nie 307). Hence is is difficult to know when said conflict has been solved, We use
the term wicked in a meaning akin to that of malignant (in contrast to benign ) or
vicious (like a circle) or tricky (like a leprechaun) or aggressive (like a lion, in
contrast to the docility of a lamb) (Rittel and Webber 1973: p. 160) Recently there has
been an increase in the amount of drivers in the modern environmental movement,
some of which are resource scarcity, rise of outdoor recreation, changing

California of 1962. A California statute inflicted a cruel and unusual punishment on
Lawrence Robinson. Robinson was convicted for an addiction to the use of
narcotics, and that the status of drug addiction was considered as a criminal offense
under the California state law. During a jury trial, evidence used against Robinson
was given by two Los Angeles police officers, who had stopped him on the city street.
The officers testified that the offender s arms were discolored, scabbed, and filled
with needle marks. Lawrence Robinson testified on his own behalf, denying that he
had ever used nor been addicted to narcotics, and denying the alleged conversation
with the police officers. Robinson then explained that the marks on his arms resulted
from an allergic condition contracted during his military service (Court).
Nevertheless, the jury found the man guilty of charged. The United States Supreme

Progressivism And Social Criticism In The Progressive Era
The Progressive Era The Progressive Era was an influential period in history, as it
protected social welfare, created an economic reform, and overall, promoted moral
improvement. Progressivism has propelled people into the modern world, in which
people are treated equally and the business relations do not interrupt the political
decisions, or the government. Most importantly, if the concept of progressivism did
not exist, our business industry would not have thrived, labor conditions would not
have changed, women would not have equal rights as men, and overall, there would
have been no idea, as to social activism and a political reform. During the Progressive
Era, American industrialists began making themselves known through their... Show

Basically, the Great Depression was going on, so there was unemployment, and
people needed money. Parents had no option but to send their children to work,
without concerning towards their health. Eventually, the reformers and labor
organizers helped take a stand, helping to place restrictions on child labor, involving
the hours they worked for and the conditions they worked in. Primary school
education then led to becoming a necessity for children., after the Fair Labor
Standards Act was passed in 1938, leading to many states establishing a minimum
wage and a max number of hours for labor. Comparing this to today, if child labor had
not come to an end, many children would be deprived of the right to education and
given time for recreation. Overall, the people who made themselves heard through
protests influenced the children immensely today, as they would have spent their
time working for wealthy businessmen for no benefit, and there would be no concept
as to minimum wage and a healthy work environment. Additionally, inequality of
women that was ongoing for several years, ultimately reached a change, with the
Woman Suffrage. The Women s Suffrage was the right of woman to vote and to stand

men, the husbands of the women, who regarded the grant of such rights as useless
and insignificant. Among the anti suffragists were also women themselves, who went

The one aspect I choose to discuss is the bathing process, especially this is so
different where I m from and I still hope to find a place in the USA that is a little

In Northern Europe, when you say I go to a sauna, it means you are going to a
resort that has many different saunas and a swimming pool. Usually, there is a
restaurant, a place where you can have a facial, massage, and you are guaranteed a
relaxing day. After a day at the resort, you charged your battery, and you feel
rejuvenated. While you are in the resort, you do not wear swimwear. In the sauna,
you sit on a towel, and only the restaurant requires a bathrobe. Male and female are
mixed and some people bring their children. This resort is not some nudist camp;
this is a part of our culture. The following quote comes from Body Ritual among

A Survey On Data Mining Classification Algorithms
A Survey on Data Mining Classification Algorithms
Abstract: Classification is one of the most familiar data mining technique and model
finding process that is used for transmission the data into different classes according
to particular condition. Further the classification is used to forecast group
relationship for precise data instance. It is generally construct models that are used to
predict potential statistics trends. The major objective of machine data is to perfectly
predict the class for each record. This article focuses on a survey on different
classification techniques that are mostly used in data mining.
Keywords: Data mining, Classification, decision tree, neural network.

2.ARCHITECTURE OF DATA MINING
Data mining and knowledge discovery is the name frequently used to refer to a
very interdisciplinary field, which consists of using methods of several research
areas to extract knowledge from real world datasets. There is a distinction between
the terms data mining and knowledge discovery which seems to have been
introduced by [Fayyad et al.1996].the term data mining refers to the core step of a
broader process, called knowledge discovery in database. Architecture of data mining
structure is defined the following figure.

Data cleaning: Data cleaning or data scrubbing is the process of detecting as well as
correcting (or removing) inaccurate data from a record set. It handles noisy data it
represents random error in attribute values. In very large dataset noise can come in
many shapes and forms. And irrelevant data handles the missing and unnecessary
data in the source file.
Data integration: Data integration process contains the data from multiple sources.
My Top Three Intellectual Values Of A Servant Leader
My values are very important to me. My top three terminus values are courageous,
forgiving, and honest. My top three instrumental values were difficult to determine as
all the values are important to me. However, the top three on instrumental values are
independent, intellectual, and obedient. All the values are important to being a
servant leader.
Terminus Values
The terminus value that are most important are courageous, forgiving, and honest.
Being courageous show strength. Stand up for one a person s beliefs is important
and it shows where he or she stands on impending issues when they do arise.
Forgiving is definitely a value one needs while being in leadership. A person should
be able to pardon a person when transgression have been committed
Theme Of Corruption In The Chocolate War
Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts... perhaps the fear of a loss of power (John
Steinbeck). This quote directly compares to the book, The Chocolate Wars that
tells an extraordinary story about a boy, Jerry Renault who rebells against the
dictators of the school, The Vigils and the corrupted staff. Jerry s rebellion leads
him to his doom in an organized fight watched by the school showing the student
body how dangerous power really is. In the book, The Chocolate War, the author,
Robert Cormier portrays the uneasy lesson of how simple it is for power to corrupt
people into dangerous, manipulating rulers by revealing the lack of jurisdiction the
student body possesses, by developing awareness of the power of The Vigils, the
supremacy of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without The Vigils, Trinity might have been torn apart like other schools had been,
by demonstrations, protests, all that crap (Cormier, 27). Another time Cormier
reveals to the reader the dangerous dictators is in the quote, Were teachers like
everyone else, then? Were teachers as corrupt as the villains you read about in
books or saw in movies and television? (Cormier, 107). In the first situation the text
undoubtedly shows how in control The Vigils are. The group looks down upon
expressing your opinion and equality of the people. Their leader, Archie Costello,
assumes that without their supreme authority over the school, the school would fall
apart, which is false to begin with. The first quote just shows how dangerous and
how easy it is for the wrong person to become powerful. In a similar fashion, the
second quote highlights the unscrupulous staff member, Brother Leon. After Jerry
became aware of Brother Leon s alliance with The Vigils he made the remark
comparing teachers to corrupt villains. Without a doubt, Jerry s comparison directly
supports the author s
The Issue Of Reproductive Rights
The topic of reproductive rights surrounding women in Texas has been a hot
buttoned issue since the closing of many reproductive centers across the state.
Recently damaging abortion restrictions were passed and therefor encroach on
women s reproductive rights even more by decreasing access to abortion care.
Texas 84th Legislature, both passed HB 3994 as a law and had it Governor Abbott
make it effective with his signature on July 8, or this year. This law complicates
access to abortionservices for mistreated and neglected minors and for those who do
not possess specific identification cards in Texas.
Specifically HB 3994 has four requirements of the bill that would explicitly hinder
Latina minors. The first provision it that the bill will make it harder for a minor to
demonstrate that she needs a judge to approve her for an abortion because the level
of evidence that the minor must acquire is much more encompassing. Secondly, it
revises the requirement that a judges rule must be made immediately, expanding the
decision time from two days to five and prolonging the process. The third provision
withdrawals the requirement that in the case the judge cannot make an immediate
rule, then the minor s case was automatically granted. This third provision along with
the extension of the ruling time, could lead to a number of rules not being made and
to the possibility of the minor s application being denied. Fourthly, the new bill brings
limits on who can have their appeals heard

intrigued me more. I got to know Lucas that summer and before he got deployed

Measure For Measure
Measure for Measure is often described as a problem comedy because the themes
and tones that are presented in the play do not share the same optimistic themes
and tones of Shakespeare s previous comedies. The familiar formula that classifies
Measure for Measure as a comedy are mistaken identity (the bed trick ), disguise,
the Duke disguises himself as a Friar to keep tabs on Angelo, Lucio as comedic
relief, and the resolution of the playwith the multiple marriages of Juliet and Claudio,
Angelo and Mariana, and Lucio and Kate Keepdown. Although Measure for Measure
fills the criteria for comedy, it is set apart because of themes of judgement and justice,
marriage and sex, and religion and mortality. The cynical tone that Shakespeare

While the Duke is in a position of authority, he has not been using his authority to
enforce the laws prohibiting his citizens from engaging in prostitution and having
sex out of wedlock. The Duke is aware of this when he points out: We have strict
statutes and most biting laws,/ The needful bits and curbs to headstrong weeds
/ Which for this fourteen years we have let slip (1.3.19 21). In Measure for
Measure, sex outside of marriage is punishable by death, yet at the end of the play
the punishment is marriage for at least two of the pairings. Compared to
Shakespeare s other comedies, marriage is not a form of punishment but rather a
goal for the couples to satisfy their mutual yearning for each other, and their
communities demand for clear kinship structures...to legitimate members of a new
generation (Maus 2040). For Claudio and Juliet, their union becomes official when
the Duke orders them to be married. As for Angelo and Lucio, marriage is a
punishment. Angelo is ordered to marry Mariana by the Duke after the bed trick
of Mariana posing as Isabella is revealed to Angelo and that since he was already
betrothed to Mariana, the marriage is consummated. As for Lucio, he has to marry
Kate Keepdown, a prostitute who he shares a child with. For him he explicitly says
marrying a punk [prostitute] is pressing to death/ whipping or hanging (5.1. 515

Fort Eben Emael Mission Command
Mission Command Paper Introduction
After seven months of planning at the highest levels, an operation that was to be the
crux in Germany s strategy for invading France rested on the shoulders of a
competent but lowly company grade officer, Lieutenant Rudolph Witzig. Thirty five
minutes into the attack, victory was assured. Fort Eben Emael s guns lay in pieces,
it s men in puddles, and the door to France swung open violently. From an
uninformed, superficial level, the storming of Fort Eben Emael may appear to be
nothing more than luck, an unrepeatable combination of uncontrollable variables
accidentally aligned in the attacker s favor. After all, the attack featured the untested

Situated north of the French Maginot Line, Eben Emael dominated the surrounding
countryside and served to protect key bridges along the Albert Canal with its
innumerable guns. The fort s poured concrete perimeter was surrounded by barbed

Eben Emael s western flank was protected by a moat. Underneath the surface tunnels

redundant generators. Eben Emael was not only the impenetrable defensive
cornerstone of Belgium, it was a veritable military metropolis providing the basic
necessities for the authorized force of 1,200 men garrisoned behind its walls and

Don Quijote Truthful History Summary
Contrary to those who might delve into the imaginative truths of the text, I am
taking a more literal and common sense approach in my belief that the claim
Cervantes makes through the narrator of Don Quijote being a truthful history is
most definitely a claim in jest. It was in all likelihood included to mirror the
humorous realities believed by the titular knight himself. This same assertion could
also be used to justify the seriousness of the claim by way of it being Don Quijote s
truthful history , which some would affirm is what you expect to glean from a
biographical tale in the first place. This can also be compounded on with the
protestation of the narrator on page 52: And if there is any possible objection to the

They were taken in all the beauties of the earth. Emotions had taste. Love taste like

The world is lot different now, people live freely with hardly any restrictions or
limitations. The impossible was now possible. There were three elements that made
up the new world the first element was the connect between man and man. When the
awakening happen life its self became the number one priority. The second element
was the connect with man and nature. Man gained a new appreciation for earth and
became connected to the trees, wind, and all other earthly things. The third element
was the connection between man and god. God present was now known and there
was no more denying that. Man was now aware of their innate self.
Heaven was present on earth for the first time. The community was full of harmony
and joy. Everyone shared the same appreciation for the new world. The air more
pure than ever before. Man and animals walk side by side with no fear that either
well be harmed. Since everything was now connected killing no longer exist because
harm another is no different than harming yourself.

your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad.
Kate Nelson s Genre Defying Work The Argonauts
Maggie Nelson s genre defying work The Argonauts (2015) embraces instability
and complexity in identity through eliciting a parallel between the renewal of the
Argo in the Greek Myth Jason and the Argonauts and language: Just as the Argo s
parts may be replaced over time but the boat is still called the Argo, whenever the
lover utters the phrase I love you, its meaning must be renewed by each us, as the
very task of love and of language is to give to one and the same phrase inflections
which will be forever new (Nelson, 5). The Argo implies continued movement and
interior evolution; claiming permanence in the structure would be disingenuous since
renovations are necessary to keep the boat afloat just as claiming stability in ones
internal conception of identity, especially with regards to genderand sexuality, is
problematic and ultimately an injustice to the complexities that lie within each
person. However, institutionalized binaries of sex (female/male), gender (woman/
man), and sexuality (homo/hetero) fail to provide imperative space in self
exploration and work to suppress the potentialities within these arenas. By developing
upon examples in The Argonauts through engaging with the ideas of Judith Butlerin
Gender Trouble and Performative Acts and Gender Constitution and Eve Sedgwick in
The Epistemology of the Closet, these binaries may be revealed as a construction that
conceals the operations of oppression within contemporary American culture. After

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Using
Ratio...
Every company or business using ratio analysis to measures financial performance
within a period of time to shows their profit or loss. There is no doubt that ratio
analysis gives great insights about a company. Using ratio analysis by a company
also has few disadvantages.
First of the disadvantage of using ratio analysis is difference in accounting
methodologies. Certain ratios may be adversely affected by a company s accounting
practices. Different company may be using different accounting method. For instance,
inventory valuation methods may differ and it can be depreciation methods. As a
result, comparing ratios of such companies may not describe a correct picture as what
should express.
The next limitation of applying ratio analysis is the effects of inflation not taken
into considerations. Financial records are made over a period of time. All of these
records might not give a correct picture because of the effects of inflation are not
taken into account while recording. For example, office equipment purchased two
years ago was recorded at historical costs in the statement of financial position. These
rates might have the different value currently due to inflation. The value of office
equipment and depreciation may have different value now as it had recorded.
Ratio analysis might also guide to a narrow focus on some elements of a ... Show

But there also have few advantages of using ratio analysis. First advantage is ratio
analysis can be used to evaluate the performance of a company compare to other
competitors that run within the same industry. Companies that operate under the
same industry generally display similar financial profiles. So, a measured ratio that is
significantly more than or less than the industry average may show a particular strong
or weak performance by the company so that the company can make the improvement
to gain more profit than

The Spirit Of The Sun
The sun moving slowly and getting smaller to the south
All of the Sun Gods share the same birth and death sequence because in reality it s
nothing but the sun s transitioning before it shifts it s direction back into the northern
hemisphere bringing spring (Or salvation). The ancient people did not celebrate the
resurrection of the sun until the Spring Equinox (Easter). This is because during the
spring equinox the sun overpowers the darkness as daytime becomes longer than the
night.
The greatest reference to astrological symbolism in the Bible, right next to the story
of Jesus, are the Twelve Disciples. The Twelve Disciples are nothing but the 12
constellations of the Zodiac. Which Jesus (The Sun) travels with. What s interesting
is the fact that the number 12 is repetitive throughout the Bible.

Tribes of Israel
Sons of Jacob
Judges of Israel
Great patriarchs

Kings of Israel
Princes of Israel
The truth to the Zodiac and the figurative life to the sun was not just an artistic

symbol. Which simplified looks like the symbol of Christianity.
This is not a symbol of Christianity. It is a symbol of the Pagan adaptation of the

Johnson and Johnson s receivables turnover ratio is currently 6.4X and mirrors the

Inventory turnover is currently at 3.6X and slightly better than the industry average
of 3.5X. It is also nearly twice as high as its three major competitors. This provides a

(Abstract)
After three decades of quantitative control regime, development policy in India had
a liberalized mold in the 1980s. Unleashing of full fledged reform process since
1991 was followed by significant step up in the rate of economic growth in the
country. But as the evidence of unequal distribution of gains of higher growth started
surfacing, the development strategy was further modified to make the growth
process more inclusive. The present paper is motivated by the question whether
regional disparities in development attainment in India tended to increase or
decrease during these three phases of development policy in the period since 1980.
The analysis has been carried out in terms of beta convergence of real per capita
income of states of India. The results suggest divergence in the early years but a
moderation of the divergent tendencies in the subsequent period. However a
convergence process has yet to be set in motion. Key words: Regional disparity,
Convergence, Divergence, Development attainments.
1. INTRODUCTION:
In a vast country like India regional disparities in development attainments can be
naturally present. However persistent and widening regional disparities are

Essay on Inconsistencies in Hume s Empirical Thought
Inconsistencies in Hume s Empirical Thought
In his Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, David Hume attempts to uncover
the ultimate truth about where our knowledge comes from. This leads him to suggest
that all our ideas and knowledge arise from outward experiences and sensations. He
attempts to prove this by solving the problem of induction. I disagree with Hume s
ideas, and in this essay I will explain why. I shall begin by explaining the problem
of induction, and the sceptical doubts Hume raises concerning the inductive process.
I will then explain how Hume solves the problem. Finally, I will conclude by
offering a critique of Hume s doctrine, and explain why I find it to be inconsistent.

Once Hume establishes the ultimate source of knowledge, he then attempts to
probe into the various types of ideas, and how ideas relate to one another ? He
suggests that all ideas are related in one of three ways: First, Hume utilizes the
concept of resemblance. He explains this concept through an analogy of a
photograph. In his words, a picture naturally leads our thoughts to the original. 3
The basic idea here is that an impression leads one to remember the object, which
one has experienced. The second way in which ideas give rise to one another is
through Contiguity. Basically, contiguity suggests that thinking of one object
inevitably leads one a discourse concerning the others. The third way Hume offers
is that of Cause and Effect. This seems to be the most obvious of the three. When
we think of a cause, we invariably envision its effect. When we imagine placing our
hand on a hot stove, we generally accompany that idea with its perceived effect, i.e.
getting burned. These principles, which Hume refers to as connexions , form the glue
that bind all ideas together.
After explaining where ideas come from, and how they connect to one another, Hume
is now free to delve into the actual objects of human reason and enquiry. Here, Hume
divides all the objects into two categories: Relations of Ideas and Matters of Fact.4
The first idea can be defined as those ideas that arise from pure logic, such as
arithmetic and spatial
A Closer Look at Mimas Essay
The Saturn Moon Mimas Mimas is an inner moon of Saturn and is the innermost
of the major moons, which are Enceliadus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion,
Iapetus, and Phoebe. Mimas has a crater named the Herschel Crater, which is
approximately 88 miles and one third the diameter of Mimas. The walls of the
Herschel Crater are approximately 3 miles high and parts of the floor of the crater
range approximately 6 miles deep. The central peak towers of the Herschel Crater
on Mimas are almost 4 miles above the floor of the crater. To imagine this crater on
Earth, it would be around 4,000 kilometers. A English astronomer named William
Herschel, had been using his 40 foot reflector telescope when he had made the
discovery of Mimas on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This close orbit means that Mimas probably has received several times the rate of
collisions as the collisions of other moons of Saturn. Mimas and another Saturn
moon, Rhea, have been called the most heavily cratered bodies in the Solar
System. It is believed that the craters on Mimas have been around since the
beginning of the Solar System. Mimas is so heavily cratered that new impacts will
overwrite the old craters that were created in the past. There just is not a part of
the Mimas that has not been pounded by impacts. Mimas being closer to Saturn is
what kept it from being heavily cratered compared to Saturn s other moon Rhea.
Results of the crater impacts are hard to detect due to Mimas being a warmer and
consequently softer moon, which over a period of time its earlier features had
faded away as a result of this. The older bigger craters can still be seen, even with
all the impacts the moon has received. Most of the surface on Mimas is saturated
with impact craters, which the range in size is greater than 25 miles in diameter. But
no others are nearly as large as the well known crater Herschel. This suggests that
early in its history, Mimas was probably impacted by even larger bodies than the one
that had created Herschel, which had completely disrupted the new moon, wiping
The Malawi Health System
There are a number of challenges exerting increasing pressure on Malawi s ability to
fully adopt HSS approach. These include: Demographic trends, While the population
has grown from10.6 million in 1990, to approximately 17 million the Malawi health
system has struggled to maintain and provide adequate health care to the people
Malawi s population is growing. Increasing fertility rates has led to a significant
increase in the population projection, which has grown from XXXX million people
in 2051 (2004 estimates) to 34.2 million people (2006 estimates). This, together with
demographic trends, suggests that while there will be a growing need for health
services targeted at children, teenagers and young families, the predominant
influence will remain xxxxxx, which will cause most change in the use of

significant and will place increasing pressure on health expenditure. Chronic
diseases, including xxxxxxx, are estimated to be responsible for more than 80% of
the burden of disease.12 The WHO warns that the global burden of chronic disease

The First Battle Of Bull Run Essay
THE FIRST BATTLE OF BULL RUN
On July 21, 1861, two armies, one confederate and the other Union, prepared for the
first major land battle of the Civil War. In 1861 Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as
President.
The Southern states had seceded and the South had fired on and captured Fort Sumter
on April 12 1861.
After the Fort Sumter battle, both the North and the South began preparing for war
by raising armies. This was done quickly and neither side spent much time training
the troops. Both sides also did not know what a long and terrible war was ahead.
The first Battle of Bull Run took place near Manassas Junction, Virginia, an important
railroad junction twenty five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Confederates at Manassas knew far ahead of this action due to many Southern
spies in Washington. The Southern troops spread in lines along eight miles of Bull
Run Creek. The heaviest Southern troops were on a ridge around Henry House. After
a few skirmishes, the Union Army arrived at Bull Run on July 21, 1861.
As the Union Army approached Bull Run, General Johnston s army faked an attack
at Harpers Ferry. As the 18,000 Union troops dug in for assault, the Southern forces
jumped on rail cars and headed for Bull Run to reinforce the Confederate Army.
General McDonnell attempted to flank the Confederates by moving north and west,
and began several attacks on the Confederates right flank and the center of the
Confederate line at Henry House.
As the battle wore on, the superior numbers of the Union Army began to wear
down the Confederate lines. At a critical point, as the Confederates began to fall
back, an officer pointed out a line of rebels who were still strong. He said, look at
Jackson s men standing like a stone wall . He was talking about General T. J.
Jackson s men. Jackson would from then on be known as Stonewall Jackson , one of
the most famous of all Confederate generals. This seemed to inspire the Southern
troops at Henry
Analysis Of In The Studio Poem

Art 111

Art is another form of language, that artists use to explain something or express their
feelings. I believe that through art, communication is more passionate and thoughtful.
In paintings, artist have their own techniques in which they use to convey the
messages in their work. The piece In the Studio c by William Merritt Chase1889
1916, he connects with his viewers through expression of lines, space and depth, light
and color, texture and design. This painting was also donated by Mary Reynolds
Babcock Foundation, ARCA Forsyth 1967 2.4.
Viewing the painting, I found that William uses a variety of lines. I found a good
amount of thick and thin contoured line in the body and the clothing of the woman
sitting in the chair. Contoured lines help to add volume and to mold into something.
The pure contour lines in the woman chest helps her character appear more
feminine, as well as the curvy and thin lines in her dress and shoes. The curved
outline in her body gives a visual gesture and communicates body language. We all
know that body language is a nonverbal form of communication, it can say a lot, and
cause different reactions. The artist incorporated implied line in the figures painted
on the dresser. The Buddha statue appears to be looking down at the women, and the
man looking statue appears to be looking away from the woman. This puts the focal
point on the woman. She also has implied lines that makes her appear to

Opportunities:
A good opportunities in order to increase sales and even create more awareness,
could be to make it available to order a delivery of some kinds of cakes, bread etc. for
a event. It could be big events, or even small events such that aren t close to
Lagkagehuset bakery.
Since it s becoming more and more a norm to order food, luxuries and other
products online, Lagkagehuset could expand their strategies by developing an
online store on their webpage. This would be the same way of ordering a delivery
as the opportunity as above, just different, since its not for an special event but rather
just for breakfast a morning where the consumer wouldn t want to go outside and
purchase the bread, cakes and so on themselves. This would make them even more
differentiated on the market and could appeal to more customers.

Denmark is ranked very high on the list of countries with the highest yearly
consumption of coffee per capita. However Lagkagehuset would experience a great
decrease if the many people who purchased their bread or coffee on their way to work
in the morning, habitual pattern changes. This means Lagkagehuset have to focus
strongly on their image.
Technological factors
It s hard to determine what technological influences there is on Lagkagehuset,
however if they were to establish a better administrative system, in order to organize
their regular and continuous deliveries, it could benefit them in the long run. A more
advanced system always contributes to every industry or company, and it would to
Lagkagehuset as well. This, however, wouldn t have to be a major priority for them
since it s not something they are lacking.

Limited Documentation in the Public Domain
Numerous websites exist providing information on the utilization of weather satellite

associate jewelry with women particularly necklaces and bracelets. It is very likely
however that men s jewelry existed before women began adorning themselves.
Custom men s jewelry existed during the Stone Age over a thousand centuries ago;
Ice Age hunters often wore necklaces made from the teeth, claws and/or bones of
animals which they had killed for the tribe to eat. Among North American Indians,
women s and men s jewelry served a dual purpose: dentalia, or wampum shells
worn around the neck also served as currency. Today, palladium wedding bands are
the latest thing in men s jewelry, but hardly the only thing. Men s watches (including
dive watches for the undersea adventurer), movado gold watches and tungsten

What Role Did Christianity Play In The Russian Church
The Russian Church is the oldest Christian church in Russia, and one of the most
established churches in the world. It has been able to exist for over 1,000 years
because of its strong Christian foundation and influence over the previous rulers, the
acceptance of Christianity within the hearts of Russian Christians who fought to hold
on to their religious belief even with a communist government ruling them, and
Russias big and open landscape which allowed Russian Christians to worship in
secrecy to avoid being caught by the communist government. Many Russian

stronger than the other people in the world. In Matthew 10: 22, God states You
will be hated by all for my name s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
As Christians, we are always going to be hated, and there will be people to persecute
us, but our goal is to face the trials, and live for him each day. The Russians are great
example of children of Christ who were persecuted for their beliefs and acts. The
Christians in Russia showed a perfect example of sacrifice, persistence, and trust.
The sacrifice of their lives. The persistence and hope that took years of waiting for
something better to happen. The trust that God is there for them, and will never leave

  • 2. Review on the Novel Atonement Review on Atonement It is not often that the protagonist of a story be the anathema of the story as well and it is even more of a rarity that the particular character be a young child. Yet, this is exactly what Ian McEwan has done with his Crime Novel, Atonement. McEwan intentionally turns his readers against Briony Tallis, a young girl transitioning from the naivete of childhood into the new and confusing years of adolescence; a point in one s life when mistakes are dubbed as necessary stepping stones to further understand one s self rather than life long regrets and unsubduable self loathing. McEwan takes the innocence of childhood and juxtaposes it with despicable crimes and unchangeable mistakes, thus creating a protagonist the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robbie Turner is trying to survive each turbulent day in war with thoughts of Cecilia as motivation. McEwan describes World War Two brilliantly by creating scenes of unthinkable death and suffering whilst threading hope and love to convey the complexities of war. It s during these pages that the reader realizes the full consequence of Briony s actions. Briony herself, witnessing the horror and carnage of war in the hospital, is distraught as ever about the incident. She has stopped writing thus imprisoning the same imagination that destroyed so many relationships. Cecilia defended Robbie against her family, and in doing so cut them off entirely, the foremost being Briony. This only intensifies the readers distaste for Briony and the effect she let herself make. Her internal conflict evolves for the worse with time, and even with the sacrifices she makes, it is clear atonement is far off in the distance from herself, her family, Robbie, or the reader.McEwan takes what is ethical and distorts it using the relationships between the characters. He uses some of the most sensitive relationships, such as sisters and lovers, to evoke questions in the reader: what mistake could lead to a loss of family? Of love? Family is often a symbol of eternal love, but in Atonement, that symbol is shattered. The bonds of family love cannot always be healed with apologies. McEwan integrates the unchangeable law that an action must have a reaction, some of which, can never be
  • 3. The Role Of Male And Female Roles In Society In general, the male and female roles in society at that time were very different. Ultimately, the males were the ones with the most power. Thus, they seemed to think they knew what is best for the lady s. Still, she is suffering from depression and went to two different doctors. My brother is also a physician, and also of high standing, and he says the same thing (). John is a highly looked upon physician, he tries to make life choices for her that he knows what is best for her, but does he really? Power was everything to men it made them who they were. Therefore, if they didn t have power, they were viewed as weak and unsuccessful in life. In addition, the female role was very different from the male role. Moreover, women were seen as very dependent on the male. The male made the choices and the female did whatever they are told. Therefore, they were more likely to stay at home and tend to house work while their husband was away at work. Sadly, they didn t seem to get much of a social life. Ultimately, if they wanted to go somewhere they had to ask permission of the man, but if the man was not around they would do what they wanted to. Ironically, the women would tend to hide things from the men because they would disapprove of their choices. Unfortunately, it was a period of time in which women didn t have much power and were forced to live under a rock. Furthermore, the men wanted them to be blind to the truth, so they couldn t over power them. In addition, the
  • 4. Cardiovascular System Vs Respiratory System Essay The human body is not simply just an organism, or just body. The body is comprised of many different systems. Although these systems all work together with one common goal, to maintain homeostasis, perhaps there are not two systems that work more closely together than the respiratory system and the cardiovascular system. Although the entirety of each body system has a generalized common goal, these two systems share a relationship. The both focus on providing oxygen to the blood, and then ensuring that this richly oxygenated blood is circulated throughout the body. The whole human organism would fail if it lacked just one of these systems, and the individual systems would fail without each other. To fully understand how the two work together, one must fully realize the functions of each system apart. The respiratory is not one of the biggest systems of the body, but it is one of the most commonly known. However, this system is not simply for breathing or the lung system . In fact, these notions only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two most significant to the coexistence of both systems being the pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein. The pulmonary artery carries the blood lacking in oxygen into the lungs (Bailey). From there, the oxygen from the air sacs goes into the blood vessel, while the carbon dioxide comes out (How Does Oxygen Get Into the Bloodstream) . Upon this moment, the organism exhales releasing the carbon dioxide. Meanwhile, the now oxygenated blood travels throughout the body, which especially important for the muscles. Oxygen is required for the muscles to preform any sort of strenuous activity. Faster paced breathing and an elevated heart rate aren t random symptoms of a good work out. The blood must quickly transfer oxygen to the muscles. This is so that the muscles have the ability to create adenosine tri phosphate (ATP) which carries
  • 5. Sumo Spirito Research Paper The heritage of the Conquista, the conquest of Middle and South America by the Spanish presents itself nowadays mostly in a culinary fashion: cocoa, chocolate, corn, tomatoes. Albeit living in a global age, lesser known and little researched is the music origination in the New World; music that interlinks the cultures of three continents. Beside the less pleasant actions undertaken by both the European clerical and secular subjugators, it was also the conquistadores that brought musicalong with them from the old continent. This music quickly spread throughout the colonies and settlements. Exposed to local influences, the music was soon shaped to please the local ear. After all, when the Dominican and the Jesuit missionaries took off to preach the gospel, music was one of their most important messengers. Most notably in Mexico, Bolivia and Peru, a breathtaking wealth of music has been written in the 17th and 18th century. Even though we are not to forget the brutal... • 6. Greek Art Vs. The Mural Of Iphigenia There are many ways art can be depicted and done. Every culture usually has their own unique sense of style when it comes to art. Art can be abstract, naturalistic, idealism, realism and etcetera. Art is a good way to capture different cultures, rituals and history. There are some similarities and differences between each culture s art. Especially when it has to do with different time periods. Two cultures that have major differences in art are Egyptians and the Greeks. You can see these differences in the mural of Iphigenia during the Greeks Hellenistic era and the mural in the Tomb of Queen Nefertari in Thebes, Egypt. The mural of Iphigenia, is located in Tauris Pompeii. This mural was depicted in the Hellenistic era, which dates around... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Queen Nefertari s tomb is considered to be the largest in the Valley of the Queens. It is located in Thebes Egypt and was painted around 1260 B.C. During this era, art in Egypt consisted of the portrayal of gods and about the deceased in the afterlife. This mural depicts a god and a deceased. Also one of the major techniques in art in Egypt was the usage of hierarchical proportions, which symbolized power in paintings. Usually the Pharaoh or someone who holds some sort of power was painted bigger than any other person in the illustration. In this mural the artist did not use this technique; both of them are the same size, which indicates that they both hold certain importance in the drawing. One was a Queen and the other is considered to be a god. The mural is painted in a profile view, with only the right side of their bodies being fully visible. We are able to see both of their arms, shoulders, hands and feet. The color pallet that is used in this mural isn t very warm, it has more of a harsh tone to it. The artist used a lot of bright and dark colors. The skin tone of the Queen and the god do not seem really naturalistic. Especially the facial features do not seem realistic. This painting would be considered to be more abstract than any other style.. The lines are very thick and dark, which causes one to see the outline around their bodies and facial features. The lack of shadows has made this mural to not have any drapery and any depth. There is no folding of their clothing. What they are wearing is drawn very flat, but with a great amount of patterns. In this painting the artist used a great deal of patterns. You can see different usages of patterns starting from the bottom of the painting till the top of the painting. What the queen and the sun god are sitting have the same pattern. It has three different colors in it black green and red. There are patterns on the queens
  • 7. How Did The Progressive Era Affect The Economy The Progressive Era provided a much needed counterbalance to the economic boom in the United States in the couple of decades prior. It provided a significant increase in regulations to the industries that were running rampant with corruption during the Gilded Age that had not been regulated by the government prior to this era. This helped protect the workers from abuses in the workplace and also gave workers increased protections while at work. The Progressive Erapermanently changed the American culture by having the federal government start to play a major role in the regulation of private businesses to protect workers and consumers. Many of the laws put on the book at this time are still in place now. This era helped make America stronger as a whole as it was vital in decreasing the tension between the upper class and the lower class as now the lower class was not being exploited in the ways that they were being exploited before laws to protect them were put in place. Prior to this time you had the upper class living their lives with very little interaction with those who were not a part of their class (McGerr 4). Progressive Era changes have a major impact to the present day because the laws passed at this time have been built upon and the government is continuing on the path that started during this
  • 8. Holocaust The Museum Experience One of my favorite things to do when traveling in a new city is to visit the museums. I have never been to a city that did not offer the usual museum fare, usually in the form of the Anytown Art Museum , or the Anytown Museum of Natural History . While these types of museums house some incredible artifacts, and I do visit them often, I also like to seek out museums of a more unusual sort. Museums are mostly the same just about everywhere you go, both in the United States and Europe. They offer the visitor a glimpse into the past culture of any given city or country by displaying relics found throughout the world. But there are also many museums that showcase artifacts of the culture in a much more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most profound image I took away from the Barbie collection was the development and various uses of plastics from those early years to today. Toy museums are popular for two reasons, they show an aspect of a culture that an art or history museum may not address, but more importantly, they take the visitor back to their own childhood when they see the toys that they played with when they were young, and awaken the imagination again in ways not known for years. Another popular topic for museums in Europe is the torture museum. The Dungeon, in Prague is the only one I have visited, but there are several others as well in Germany and France. In fact, there is a website devoted to torture museums in Europe. Torture was a common practice in Medieval Europe both for punishment and gathering information, and I suppose the fascination lives on. The Dungeon displays some interesting instruments used in the Middle Ages. They run the gamut from the traditional thumbscrew, to various brands that were used to signify the type of crime committed, to some very painful looking stretching racks, ankle screws, and hanging devices. One interesting device, called the Crown of Thorns is an iron ring with several nails woven into it. This ring is placed on the prisoner and pounded down around his skull until the

Id like to touch on one in particular that I used to do called Sissyfication. In other words, I would take men. dress them up as women, make them imitate women and feminize them. For some, these actions I used to force upon them was an ultimate form of humiliation. To srip them of their naatural manhood, and to subject them to imitate a woman was so unnatural to them. Now I understand why many was so uncomfortable to this aspect of kink. It was due to the fact that I was forcing them to be molding into something God had not created them to be. Throught the years I discovered the many different facets of feminization. I had an uncanny ability to push men, their boundaries and their limits because I had sixth sense of the things they hide deep into their souls.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Austin Phillips Austin Phillips is a massive human being. He measures a towering six and a half feet tall and two hundred and fifty pounds. He has a wingspan of six feet and eight inches but is not a string bean by any means. As a football player here at Ashland, he spends a majority of his time lifting and playing football, making him fairly thick. His hair is a dirty shade of red and he has rosy cheeks and small squinty eyes. To those who might pass him on the street or face him on the football field, he might look like a complete wolf. And he has the potential to be one. However, I would argue that he is as far from being a wolf as a person could possibly be. He has the appearance of a wolf, but the qualities of a true sheepdog. Austin Phillips is a sheepdog... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any man off of the street can look at Austin Phillips and know that he has the capability to be violent simply because he is a massive and intimidating human being. However, in his case, violence and aggression are never used inappropriately or unnecessarily. It is used situationally. This is one of my favorite qualities of Austin. When describing the sheepdog, Grossman says, ...the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep (Grossman 2). Austin simply does not have the ability to harm people, animals, plants, or even rocks. For example, we went geode hunting this summer and naturally, when we were finished, we smashed them to see the crystals inside. For most, this is the most exciting part of geode hunting, but Austin found it to be unbearable. He could not smash the rocks because he claimed, it hurt [his] feelings . However, when it comes to innocent people, Austin would go to extreme measures to protect them. This is shown in the case of one of his younger brothers who had gotten himself into a bit of trouble a few years ago with another kid about our age named Blake. Blake was a wolf and he was beating up on Austin s younger brother. Naturally, as a sheepdog, Austin ran to jump in between the two of them and took the punch for his brother. And I know that he would do the same for anyone else in a heartbeat because he is a sheepdog, and sheepdogs protect innocent people. However,

Prioritizing It Project Management Portfolio Prioritizing IT Project Management Portfolio Prioritizing IT Project Management Portfolio The realities of shrinking IT budgets and increasing dependence on IT in organizations in recent years has resulted in a situation in which there is an intense competition for resources needed to execute and complete IT projects. According to Ross (2007), the shrinking IT budget in the face of increasing demand has brought new pressures to the IT function. • 15. The Importance Of Environmental Justice In todays world, there are a fair share of groups with opposing viewpoints as well as mindsets, which often leads to conflict. Certainly the forestry world has had its fare share of people in power making decisions based on whats best for them finically or personally, and not what is best for the community and/or forest. Deep ecology includes a large majority of the same concepts in which they want to work towards the best interest of the forest and environment, and for the majority focus on the fact that humans are interfering with the forest to much as it is, and it needs to be changed (Naess, 264). Environmental justice focuses on how currently there is an elitist membership and narrow scope in the current conventional environmental practices and tries to work towards sustainability(Gottlieb 1993). When both of these collide they create what is knows as Wicked Problems , they go beyond scientific, economic, and techno rational analysis and methods of problem solving ( Nie 307). Hence is is difficult to know when said conflict has been solved, We use the term wicked in a meaning akin to that of malignant (in contrast to benign ) or vicious (like a circle) or tricky (like a leprechaun) or aggressive (like a lion, in contrast to the docility of a lamb) (Rittel and Webber 1973: p. 160) Recently there has been an increase in the amount of drivers in the modern environmental movement, some of which are resource scarcity, rise of outdoor recreation, changing

The officers testified that the offender s arms were discolored, scabbed, and filled with needle marks. Lawrence Robinson testified on his own behalf, denying that he had ever used nor been addicted to narcotics, and denying the alleged conversation with the police officers. Progressivism And Social Criticism In The Progressive Era The Progressive Era The Progressive Era was an influential period in history, as it protected social welfare, created an economic reform, and overall, promoted moral improvement. Progressivism has propelled people into the modern world, in which people are treated equally and the business relations do not interrupt the political decisions, or the government. Most importantly, if the concept of progressivism did not exist, our business industry would not have thrived, labor conditions would not have changed, women would not have equal rights as men, and overall, there would have been no idea, as to social activism and a political reform. Primary school education then led to becoming a necessity for children., after the Fair Labor Standards Act was passed in 1938, leading to many states establishing a minimum wage and a max number of hours for labor. Comparing this to today, if child labor had not come to an end, many children would be deprived of the right to education and given time for recreation. Overall, the people who made themselves heard through protests influenced the children immensely today, as they would have spent their time working for wealthy businessmen for no benefit, and there would be no concept as to minimum wage and a healthy work environment. In Northern Europe, when you say I go to a sauna, it means you are going to a resort that has many different saunas and a swimming pool. Usually, there is a restaurant, a place where you can have a facial, massage, and you are guaranteed a relaxing day. After a day at the resort, you charged your battery, and you feel rejuvenated. While you are in the resort, you do not wear swimwear. In the sauna, you sit on a towel, and only the restaurant requires a bathrobe. Male and female are mixed and some people bring their children. This resort is not some nudist camp; this is a part of our culture. The following quote comes from Body Ritual among the Nacirema. Recently damaging abortion restrictions were passed and therefor encroach on women s reproductive rights even more by decreasing access to abortion care. Texas 84th Legislature, both passed HB 3994 as a law and had it Governor Abbott make it effective with his signature on July 8, or this year. This law complicates access to abortionservices for mistreated and neglected minors and for those who do not possess specific identification cards in Texas. Specifically HB 3994 has four requirements of the bill that would explicitly hinder Latina minors. The first provision it that the bill will make it harder for a minor to demonstrate that she needs a judge to approve her for an abortion because the level of evidence that the minor must acquire is much more encompassing. Secondly, it revises the requirement that a judges rule must be made immediately, expanding the decision time from two days to five and prolonging the process. The third provision withdrawals the requirement that in the case the judge cannot make an immediate rule, then the minor s case was automatically granted. This third provision along with the extension of the ruling time, could lead to a number of rules not being made and to the possibility of the minor s application being denied. Fourthly, the new bill brings limits on who can have their appeals heard

In Measure for Measure, sex outside of marriage is punishable by death, yet at the end of the play the punishment is marriage for at least two of the pairings. Compared to Shakespeare s other comedies, marriage is not a form of punishment but rather a goal for the couples to satisfy their mutual yearning for each other, and their communities demand for clear kinship structures...to legitimate members of a new generation (Maus 2040). For Claudio and Juliet, their union becomes official when the Duke orders them to be married. As for Angelo and Lucio, marriage is a punishment. The Argo implies continued movement and interior evolution; claiming permanence in the structure would be disingenuous since renovations are necessary to keep the boat afloat just as claiming stability in ones internal conception of identity, especially with regards to genderand sexuality, is problematic and ultimately an injustice to the complexities that lie within each person. Mofidul Hassan M Phil Scholar, Department of Economics Gauhati University, Guwahati 781014 (Abstract) After three decades of quantitative control regime, development policy in India had a liberalized mold in the 1980s. Unleashing of full fledged reform process since 1991 was followed by significant step up in the rate of economic growth in the country. But as the evidence of unequal distribution of gains of higher growth started surfacing, the development strategy was further modified to make the growth process more inclusive. The present paper is motivated by the question whether regional disparities in development attainment in India tended to increase or decrease during these three phases of development policy in the period since 1980. The analysis has been carried out in terms of beta convergence of real per capita income of states of India. The results suggest divergence in the early years but a moderation of the divergent tendencies in the subsequent period. However a convergence process has yet to be set in motion. Key words: Regional disparity, Convergence, Divergence, Development attainments. 1. INTRODUCTION: In a vast country like India regional disparities in development attainments can be naturally present. However persistent and widening regional disparities are

Essay on Inconsistencies in Hume s Empirical Thought Inconsistencies in Hume s Empirical Thought In his Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, David Hume attempts to uncover the ultimate truth about where our knowledge comes from. This leads him to suggest that all our ideas and knowledge arise from outward experiences and sensations. He attempts to prove this by solving the problem of induction. I disagree with Hume s ideas, and in this essay I will explain why. I shall begin by explaining the problem of induction, and the sceptical doubts Hume raises concerning the inductive process. I will then explain how Hume solves the problem. Finally, I will conclude by offering a critique of Hume s doctrine, and explain why I find it to be inconsistent. In order to understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once Hume establishes the ultimate source of knowledge, he then attempts to probe into the various types of ideas, and how ideas relate to one another ? He suggests that all ideas are related in one of three ways: First, Hume utilizes the concept of resemblance. He explains this concept through an analogy of a photograph. In his words, a picture naturally leads our thoughts to the original. 3 The basic idea here is that an impression leads one to remember the object, which one has experienced. The second way in which ideas give rise to one another is through Contiguity. Basically, contiguity suggests that thinking of one object inevitably leads one a discourse concerning the others. The third way Hume offers is that of Cause and Effect. This seems to be the most obvious of the three. When we think of a cause, we invariably envision its effect. When we imagine placing our hand on a hot stove, we generally accompany that idea with its perceived effect, i.e. getting burned. These principles, which Hume refers to as connexions , form the glue that bind all ideas together. After explaining where ideas come from, and how they connect to one another, Hume is now free to delve into the actual objects of human reason and enquiry. Here, Hume divides all the objects into two categories: Relations of Ideas and Matters of Fact.4 The first idea can be defined as those ideas that arise from pure logic, such as arithmetic and spatial

A Closer Look at Mimas Essay The Saturn Moon Mimas Mimas is an inner moon of Saturn and is the innermost of the major moons, which are Enceliadus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion, Iapetus, and Phoebe. Mimas has a crater named the Herschel Crater, which is approximately 88 miles and one third the diameter of Mimas. The walls of the Herschel Crater are approximately 3 miles high and parts of the floor of the crater range approximately 6 miles deep. The central peak towers of the Herschel Crater on Mimas are almost 4 miles above the floor of the crater. To imagine this crater on Earth, it would be around 4,000 kilometers. A English astronomer named William Herschel, had been using his 40 foot reflector telescope when he had made the discovery of Mimas on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This close orbit means that Mimas probably has received several times the rate of collisions as the collisions of other moons of Saturn. Mimas and another Saturn moon, Rhea, have been called the most heavily cratered bodies in the Solar System. It is believed that the craters on Mimas have been around since the beginning of the Solar System. Mimas is so heavily cratered that new impacts will overwrite the old craters that were created in the past. There just is not a part of the Mimas that has not been pounded by impacts. Mimas being closer to Saturn is what kept it from being heavily cratered compared to Saturn s other moon Rhea. Results of the crater impacts are hard to detect due to Mimas being a warmer and consequently softer moon, which over a period of time its earlier features had faded away as a result of this. The older bigger craters can still be seen, even with all the impacts the moon has received. Most of the surface on Mimas is saturated with impact craters, which the range in size is greater than 25 miles in diameter. But no others are nearly as large as the well known crater Herschel. This suggests that early in its history, Mimas was probably impacted by even larger bodies than the one that had created Herschel, which had completely disrupted the new moon, wiping

As the 18,000 Union troops dug in for assault, the Southern forces jumped on rail cars and headed for Bull Run to reinforce the Confederate Army. General McDonnell attempted to flank the Confederates by moving north and west, and began several attacks on the Confederates right flank and the center of the Confederate line at Henry House. As the battle wore on, the superior numbers of the Union Army began to wear down the Confederate lines. At a critical point, as the Confederates began to fall back, an officer pointed out a line of rebels who were still strong. He said, look at Jackson s men standing like a stone wall . He was talking about General T. J. Jackson s men. Jackson would from then on be known as Stonewall Jackson , one of the most famous of all Confederate generals. I believe that through art, communication is more passionate and thoughtful. In paintings, artist have their own techniques in which they use to convey the messages in their work. The piece In the Studio c by William Merritt Chase1889 1916, he connects with his viewers through expression of lines, space and depth, light and color, texture and design. This painting was also donated by Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, ARCA Forsyth 1967 2.4. Viewing the painting, I found that William uses a variety of lines. I found a good amount of thick and thin contoured line in the body and the clothing of the woman sitting in the chair. Contoured lines help to add volume and to mold into something. The pure contour lines in the woman chest helps her character appear more feminine, as well as the curvy and thin lines in her dress and shoes. The curved outline in her body gives a visual gesture and communicates body language. We all know that body language is a nonverbal form of communication, it can say a lot, and cause different reactions. The artist incorporated implied line in the figures painted on the dresser. The Buddha statue appears to be looking down at the women, and the man looking statue appears to be looking away from the woman. This puts the focal point on the woman. She also has implied lines that makes her appear to
