requires a delicate balance between expressing one's thoughts and maintaining objectivity. This
topic is multifaceted, encompassing various perspectives, from the potential impact of media
violence on individuals and society to the freedom of expression enjoyed by media creators.
Navigating through the plethora of research studies, expert opinions, and contrasting viewpoints
can be akin to traversing a complex maze.
The writer must tread carefully to avoid oversimplification or overgeneralization, recognizing the
nuanced nature of the relationship between media and violence. It demands a thorough

The Simpsons Feminist Analysis
During the 1980s, family sitcoms were thriving in the US with shows like Alf,
Family Ties and Different Strokes. These programmes were fairly docile, focusing
on instilling the ties of the American family unit. However, this all changed in 1989
when The Simpsons was premiered on Fox. Instead of playing it safe, The Simpsons
seemed to mock American values rather than embrace them in the same way other
popular shows did at the time. They were satirical and often dark. The Simpsons
were not afraid to shine a spotlight on big issues in American culture. Not only was
The Simpsons breaking the mould but it was also incredibly successful. With 29
seasons and counting, it is the longest running sitcom and the longest running
animated series of all time. With such huge audiences, The Simpsons has undoubtedly
influenced the public with its examination of various topics. I m going to conduct a
feminist analysis of The Simpsons and study the representation of sexism by looking
at the episode Girls Just Wanna Have Sums .
To conduct a feminist analysis of The Simpsons I must clarify how I define feminism.
I understand that feminism is a difficult term to define but in this essay I m going to
be using this working definition by Estelle Freedman:
Feminism is a belief that although women and men are inherently of equal worth,
most societies privilege men as a group. As a result, social movements are necessary
to achieve political equality between women and men, with the understanding that
gender always intersects with other social hierarchies.
Also, to explore how the show represents sexism I will make clear how I define
sexism.
Sexism can be defined as discrimination based on gender or as a set of attitudes,
conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender
(Swim, 2004).
The Simpsons engagement with feminism is complex and because the series is so
long I m going to focus on two episodes that centre on Lisa. I will be looking at
Girls Just Wanna Have Sums This episode is centred around Lisa Simpson. It is
important to note Lisa Simpsons has status as a feminist icon in pop culture. For
example, she was featured in Ms. Magazine as one of the many faces of feminism.
She is also often
Comparing Quinceanera And We Real Cool
Quinceanera by Judith Ortiz Cofer and We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks are
two poems that describe different coming of age circumstances. Although some
aspects of the poems language usage are similar, the two poems are rather different
in the aspects of narration and plot. Frankly, the two poems are very different in
their syntax and language usage. Quinceanera is very descriptive: I am to wash
my own clothes and sheets from this day on, as if the fluids of my body were poison,
as if the trickle of blood I believe travels from my heart to the world were shameful
(11 16). In contrast, Brooks is rather precise and terse with her words: We real cool.
We left school (1 2). However, both poems utilize enjambment and carry sentences

underlining to it though, which can help readers mature while reading it. The first

themselves. The novel gives the lesson that you cannot help everyone all at once,...

Soft Tissue Repair Case Study
Soft Tissue Repair Case Study: The Four Phase of Soft Tissue Healing and
Therapeutic Interventions that can be used to Aid Progression of Repair.
In this essay we will discuss the four different phases of the soft tissue healing process
and also explain all the components of each particular phase and how it functions.
This will also include sport therapeutic interventions that may contribute to the
healing process and that may maximise healing of soft tissue.
First Phase Bleeding
This particular phase is immediate and depending on the vascularity of the tissue that
is damaged although it only happens during the first few hours as demonstrated by
(Watson, 2006) in this illustration of the length of each phase.
The bleeding occurs following trauma to the tissue this could be an overload of a
tissue or even external force. One of the bodies first initial haemodynamic responses
to bleeding is vasoconstriction which narrows the blood vessels causing decreased
blood velocity, in 2008 (Watson) states that this is due to the release of
noradrenaline(norepinephrine); the reaction last lasts only a few seconds to a
minute. It is also explained by (Terkeltaub Ginsberg, 1988) that both lymphatic and
blood vessels are plugged to limit any fluid loss and platelet, aggregation is
stimulated by the presence of thrombin. Vasoconstriction responds primarily to
haemostasis which is a response to prevent blood loss and a platelet plug is formed
to support the prevention of excessive
Sleep Deprivation In Newborns
During our coursework over these past few weeks, we have learned a lot about a
newborns characteristics and their development. One of the things that Lola
remembers about her newborn son was that when he slept, he liked to curl up. As
we learned on BabyCenter, newborns appear to be scrunched up because they were
curled up in a fetus position for 9 months. However, as time progress, newborns
slowly begin to stretch out as they learn to use their arms and legs. Sleep deprivation
is common among many new mothers because babies simply cannot sleep throughout
the night. According to WebMD, Newborns need to eat surpasses their need to sleep.
Babies who are breastfeed tend to eat every two hours during the first few months. As
Lola explained, her
Robert Frost s Home Burial
In Home Burial, Robert Frost uses language and imagery to show how differently a
man and a women deal with grief. The poem not only describes the grief the two
feel for the loss of their child but also the impending death of a marriage. Frost
shows this by using a dramatic style set in New England. In his narrative poem, Frost
starts a tense conversation between the man and the wifewhose first child had died
recently. Not only is there dissonance between the couple, but also a major
communication conflict between the husbandand the wife. As the poem opens, the
wife is standing at the top of a staircase looking at her child s grave through the
window. Her husband is at the bottom of the stairs ( He saw her from the bottom of

Looking at lines 3 9 you are able to see that the wife looks at her world through eyes
of fear:
Looking back over her shoulder at some fear.
She took a doubtful step and then undid it
To raise herself and look again...
And her face changed from terrified to dull. (l. 3 9)
Even though the wife may feel that her husband does not understand her grief, he
does try to reach out to her. He implores her, Help me, then (l.46). He knows that he
has a difficult time communicating with her and observes:
My words are nearly always an offence. I don t know how to speak of anything. So
as to please you. But I might be taught. I should suppose. I can t say I see how. A
man must partly give up being a man. With women folk. (l.48 53) The husband
acknowledges that she is grieving and asks her, Let me into your grief (l.62). He
pleads with her, Give me my chance (l.64). He asks for help in such a way that his
wife pushes him away again. She throws the accusation at him, There you go
sneering now! (l.70). This starts a second argument between the two. The argument
now is whether the husband can grieve for the child, in the way that he is allowed
without society looking down on him? The husband wants the world to know that he
is hurting too, but how can he do this? The husband was never taught to grieve, so
he is in the process of learning how to do this. The wife does not
Hofstra University Analysis
There are many reasons why I am applying to Hofstra University, but three in
particular compelled
me to do so; the beautiful campus, highly regarded school of business and family. I
was first introduced
to Hofstra in November of 2014 when I traveled with my Grandparents to attend my
cousin s first
collegiate basketball game. As a result of my first visit, I had a desire to learn more
about the university
and knew that it could possibly be a good fit for me when I began my college search.
The initial visit to the campus was amazing and one that I will never forget.

All of these points taken together, make me

programs. During my analysis of Hofstra s accounting program, I came across two
impressive statistics
that enhanced my desire to apply and attend Hofstra University. According to best
accounting
schools.com, Hofstra s Accounting program was ranked number 43 in the nation.
This, coupled with
the fact that the average starting salary for a graduate with an accounting degree from
Hofstra was
above the national average, further fueled my desire to apply at Hofstra University.
(US News)
In addition to my campus visits and the nationally ranked accounting program, having
a close
family member who attends Hofstra University was the deciding factor in my
decision to apply. My
cousin and I are separated in age by 18 months and essentially grew up together,
living less than a
half a mile from each other. We have similar interests and I trust her implicitly when
she tells me that
Hofstra is a good fit for my personality. My decision to apply at Hofstra University
was an easy one.

Political Polarization And Culture War Essay
Political scientists Wilson and Fiorina both tackle the concepts of party polarization
and culture war through the lens of the 2004 U.S presidential election. In 2016, their
musings are, for the most part, still highly applicable. Neither denies the existence of
either a culture war or political polarization. Rather, their theses differ in the extent to
which they apply these terms to the general electorate rather than to the political
elites. Wilson argues that both elites and voters are polarized, a phenomenon driven
by the media, homogenization of political parties, and interest groups.1 However,
Fiorina maintains that the polarization in the voting patterns of the electorate is
merely a reflection of elitepartisan stances rather than the polarization of the voters
themselves.2 In examining their arguments, it is evident that Fiorina had the more
tenable thesis in regard to the polarization of the electorate in 2004. Yet this does not
preclude the existence of a culture war that has led polarization in 2016. Today,
Wilson s theories are more applicable to the political and cultural context. Looking
towards the 2018 midterm elections, the Democratic party in particular should focus
on cultivating moderate stances that can appeal to both Democrats and Republicans
with the aim of gaining seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. Writing in
the political landscape prior to the 2004 presidential election, Fiorina frequently
invokes the 2000 presidential election as
The Corruption Of Abortion
In Leviticus 24:17 God says, Whoever takes a human life shall surely be put to
death. To be exact the bible mentions the killing of someone to be murder at least
sixty three times. One of the Ten Commandments found in Exodus chapter twenty is
You shall not murder. God sees every human being as living. Whether they had
physical problems or mental problems he still cared enough to create them. Abortion
is the killing of not only a humanbeing but also an innocent human being. God never
once let anyone get away with murdering a human being out of cause ( DLTK s
Bible Activities for kids. The story of Cain and Abel. ). Think about Cain and Abel.
Cain killed Abel out of a quick rage of jealousy, all because God was more pleased
with Abel s sacrifice. God punished Cain by giving him a life of misery and by
putting a mark on him so no man would kill him ( Murder). Abortion might be a fix
for a period of time but when judgment day comes you will be accounted for it. We
all need to consider God s word as a solid textbook to study and never miss the
answer instead of trying to find ways around his laws. If God says murder is not
allowed then abortion is not allowed
Briefly I want to talk about why I think abortion should be illegal in every state.
Growing up I always saw little babies as being innocent. They had no care in the
world and they really only knew how to do a few things. That baby couldn t think
for itself or take care of itself. It relied on the mother to do

impermanent when the injured woman stops treatment. Hormonal therapies
treatment examples include, Gonadotropin releasing hormone (Gn RH) agonists and
antagonists, danazol, medroxyprogesterone (Depo Provera) and hormonal

A Brief Note On Financial Derivatives
Financial Derivatives Introduction Derivatives are financial instruments whose

Today more than ever, college sports are not just a game but instead a billion dollar
business. The NCAA likes to refer to student athletes as amateurs and believes they
shouldn t be compensated while many others can argue that the players are being
manipulated and exploited and deserve to be paid for play. Those who support the
NCAA s decision not to pay the players agree that there is no payment system that
would fairly pay all students of all sports. They also believe that students are already

However, after the 1940 s the NCAA allowed changes to scholarships every few
years. In 1973, the NCAA restricted scholarships to one year at a time. This meant
that even if the athlete performed well in the classroom, the scholarship was at risk
if his performance on the field was not up to par. Some can argue that the
restrictions goes against for the love of the game and is more about which players
make the team more money. USA Today s Eitzen D. Standley believes the word
amateur is not the correct term for a student athlete. Standley believes student
athletes are mistreated physically and mentally and compares college sports to a
slave plantation system. She says by keeping the amateur status the NCAA, who
she refers to as plantation owners, benefit themselves in two ways. By not paying
the athletes, the schools expenses are reduced making the enterprise much more
profitable. Second, Standley states since college athletic departments and the
NCAA are considered part of the educational mission, they are not required to pay
taxes on their millions from television contracts, sponsorships, licensing, the sale of
boxes and season tickets, and gate receipts. So I can t help but wonder if President
Emmert and the members of the NCAA want to hold on to amateurism for the love
of the game or the love of their pockets.
Many who oppose paying college athletes also argue that the players are already
being compensated with scholarship money. ESPN s Scoop Jackson claims

Satire In Modern Society
Beyond the humor, satire can foreshadow many aspect of the issues that are currently

Power In Lord Of The Flies
Throughout the novel, Golding has a recurring theme that power is the root of all
evil on the island. This is indeed true on the island because when Ralph is
nominated chief, he has less power which allows the boys to have more freedom
on the island. This changes when Jack has everyone except Ralph join his tribe
and gain total power over everyone, which causes for complete chaos and
corruption of civilization on the island. One example of this total power that Jack
expresses is when he tells Ralph, See? They do what I want (Golding 179). This
shows the power that Jack has over everyone else because it shows not only how
much power he now has, but how this power has corrupted him into making everyone
turn against Ralph and the idea of civilization.

Fast times are the key to success in the world of running. When it comes to race
day attire you have two real options that will give you an advantage over someone
wearing a normal training shoe. These are a racing flat and a spike. A racing flat
has the ability to support an athlete on uneven terrain and provide them cushioning
on hard surfaces making them incredibly versatile. Also a racing flat is more than
capable of being worn for races as long as a marathon while being light enough to
give you great increases in performance. Finally The available cushion and natural

This reduces the risk of injury, which is more prevalent for those who land on the

running. This reduces injury. Another factor that makes a racing flat good at reducing
injury is that it still has sufficient cushioning. Also in the study conducted by the
Journal of Sports Science and Medicine they say that In this study, the amplified
loading rate, stiffness, and peak vertical impact force demonstrate that running spikes
and flats produced a greater external force on the body. The initial impact force
between the foot and the ground is directly transmitted to the leg and can potentially
be an influential factor in injury risk (logan, Hunter, and Hopkins 6). The cushioning
as mentioned previously is light enough to give an athlete better performance while
still substantial enough to protect the runner from some of this initial shock of
running on a hard surface such as a track. A spike on the other hand has little to none
resulting in more force being exhibited on the joints and
Similarities Between Lenin And Stalin
Lenin and Stalin were similar in a few ways, Lenin s ultimate goal for the Soviet
Union and the Communist party was World Revolution. World revolution was led by
the working class called the proletariat. With that Stalin has some of the similar ideas
but went down a different road to establish his idea and goal. When it comes to
Stalinism, there are essential features that are unique. Stalin used some ideas of
Marxismand Leninism along with his own spin in it. One big difference that makes
Stalin different from Lenin is the policy that each had. Lenin s idea was world
revolution, where Stalin used his idea of socialism in one country. Stalin s socialism
in one country focused more on building up the Soviet Unionand the Soviet Union is

The Five Year Plans were set up by Stalin and his right hand men; they set up these
goals in a few categories of the Soviet Union. It was called the Five Year Plan
because they hoped to achieve everything they set up in five years; once the goals
were achieved they would discuss and set up the next Five Year Plan. In the first
Five Year Plan, it focused on agriculture. Before the plan, the farmers and the
workers essentially worked on their own farms that were run by their families,
allowing them to have the freedom to do as they pleased, but with Socialism on
the brink everything changed. Socialism includes the government in charge of
everything, meaning that collective farming was the new thing. With that farmers
and the peasants were taken away from the farm and then everyone was combined
into what they called a collective farm. This meant that everyone on that farm had
to work together to get the outcome that they wanted. People didn t have the choice
of having their farm put into a collective farm. In the case if anyone didn t like the
idea or spoke out against the actions they would be shipped to Siberia where they
would work for hard labor or they could be shipped to concentration camps. The
idea of dekulakization happened to the kulaks, meaning that if there were villages
that had too many peasants would be liquidated. It was the same concept as
collective farming. A key thing with the Kulaks was that a Rich peasant was a bad
peasant. Stalin s reasoning behind the planned economy and the use of collective
farming would make the Union a better place. With that the government would be in
control of everything. That was supposed to make the Union more efficient and
effective, allowing everyone to have access to and produce more food in order to
feed the growing number of people and

St. Croix s Complicated Potential for Sustainable Island Agriculture
History and culture as obstacles to a sustainable local food economy.
Located in the Caribbean Sea, Saint Croix has a sub tropical island climate and is
the largest of the U.S. Virgin Island(USVI) territories with the greatest percentage of
arable land. Little seasonal temperature variability, low humidity, and a year round

agricultural development and production. Even with seasonal rainfall and periods of

Though it can be a profitable and rewarding venture, it remains truly a labor intensive

businesses outside of agriculture, such as hotels, inns, resorts, eco tourism adventure

Descriptive Essay About Dreams
Dreams are funny things sometimes, what you dream in the night, can be
triggered by something that was said to you that day, someone you were thinking
about or talked to, or even something something you saw. I m not quite sure what
triggered me to have this dream, but I remember that the scenery was magnificent.
As with all dreams, I began in the middle of it, so I didn t know where I was or
where I was going. I was being driven somewhere, and there was nobody else to be
seen. I was in some kind of vehicle that was pretty high off the ground, so it was
probably an SUV or van. The seats in the car were leather, and very comfortable to
sit in, but I think that the car was brand spanking new because every time I moved,
there would be this horrid squeaking sound that the seat would make. These leather
seats were black, and as I looked around I noticed the entire interior of the car was
completely black, and looking at it was like I was staring into the centre of a black
hole. If not for the window, and my unique whiteand greenoutfit, I would have
thought I was in a dark black room or some similar dark place. My interesting outfit,
included, white converse shoes, white under armour socks, white and emerald green
shorts that were in a checkered pattern, and a white and mint green vertically striped
t shirt. As I looked at my outfit, I thought that I must have been abducted by
Leprechauns, and once they abducted me, they say I was wearing all white, so they

Elizabethan Food
During the Elizabethan era various types of foods were eaten and extensive details
were added to these foods. Social classes also played a big role in what the rich or
poor ate. Elizabethan meals were eaten at a specific time during the day.
Depending on the job, civilians ate at different a time or place. People of this era
usually ate three meals a day, which consisted of: breakfast, dinner, and supper.
Breakfast was eaten right after getting up in the morning. It was normally a small
meal made up of cold foods like leftovers, eggs, or bread and butter. But since
breakfast was by definition eaten early, those who did not rise early did not eat it.
Farmers would only go to church services on Sundays because they were usually
very busy during the rest of the week, but others went daily to early services. The
Noble social classdid not get up early enough to eat breakfast. Dinner was a mid
day meal that was eaten 11 am or 12 pm. Farmers would take their meal with them
in a bag or have it delivered to them. Craftsmen would close up shop and go upstairs
to the home area, their wife would have the meal... Show more content on

The common person usually ate white meat that contained precious little meat,
made of things like, milk cheese, butter, eggs, bread, and pottages. These were
sometimes derivative of fish, rabbit, or bird. Killing larger game in the forest was
considered poaching and was very dangerous. Gentry and rich folks ate brown meats
like: beef, venison, mutton, and pork. The poor also ate a lot more vegetables than
the rich that insisted on eating only greens that were fancily prepared. Peasants had
easy access to beef, pork, and other high end meats, but they couldn t afford to keep
a lot of it for their personal meals. They could make it just fine without fancy dishes
eaten by their richer social class. Nutritionists today would appreciate the peasant s

Essay Frank McCourts Angelas Ashes
Frank McCourts Angelas Ashes Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes is a powerful and
emotional memoir of his life from childhood through early adulthood. This book is a
wonderfully inspired piece of work that emotionally attaches the reader through
McCourt s life experiences. Its effectiveness is primarily due to McCourts evolving
innocent eye narrative technique. He allows the reader to experience his own lifein a
changeable form. Through this unique story telling technique, the reader is able to
watch Frank grow and evolve. Between the ages of four, eleven and fourteen changes
in his writing can be easily identified. It is evident that the written text, McCourt s
thoughts, and the resultant relationship with the reader evolve and... Show more

For instance, he refers to his family standing in the kitchen as big people (106). He
is easily confused and does not understand complex concepts: ...He can have
Malachy and the twins for brothers. He can t have Margaret anymore because she s
like the dog in the street that was taken away. I don t know why she was taken
away (43). Concepts such as death and religion are especially difficult for a child
to understand. Mam tells us, That s the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and I want to know
why the man s heart is on fire and why doesn t He throw water on it? (67).
A unique relationship forms between the author and the reader through McCourt s
effective show and tell narrative method. This gives the reader more involvement and
greater emotional attachment. During the first part of this book, he shows the reader,
through innocent misunderstandings, that interpretation is needed in order to fully
understand the context: Sometimes he [Mr. Leibowitz] speaks to Mrs. Leibowitz and
I don t understand because strange sounds come from his mouth. Freddie
understands...smiles back and makes the strange sounds (38). Here the reader knows
that the strange sounds are the Leibowitz s speaking another language. Frank does
not understand that there are different languages that people speak other than just
English, but the mature reader is informed.

We as a people have a major Want and Need complex. It s a part of our nature that
most of us have no idea how to correct and others who re thankful to receive. God
solves the Want and Need complex and the fametendencies along with all the sinful
drugs that come with it. It is the very pursuit of happiness that thwarts happiness.
Once quoted by a holocaust survivor named Victor Frankl. We can t search for
happiness; we have to realize we have purpose. Even the things that seem very
small have an infinite amount of purpose. Are brains are so trained on public
reaction.....public approval, obvious meanings in life. The search leads to
nothing. The Bible also says, We who are strong have an obligation to bear with
the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his
neighbor for his good, to build him up, and, Do not be conformed to this world, but
be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is
the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Cloud Computing And The Protection Of Intellectual
Property
Trust in Cloud Computing
Cloud computing has a duty to protect data privacy and some countries are going to
great measures to further ensure that their data is kept within their national borders
(Trend Micro, 2013). It has been suggested that new ethics frameworks are necessary
in order to instill trust in the industry based on known parameters that include
the use of critical equipment,
management of critical data,
respect for privacy,
security and longevity of information,
And the protection of intellectual property.
Worldwide, both the public and private sectors have grown in their distrust and
discomfort in the ability of companies to handle user data properly. Trust must be
restored by defining a clear line between legitimate security concerns and an
individual s right to privacy. One way to ensure privacy is by separating the
application that is being used (cloud service) from the data it stores and some
providers are already employing this method.
Privacy concerns recently increased after a private company, inBloom secured over
600 New York schools as a client for student data handling (Trend Micro, 2013).
inBloom described its effort as a plan to integrate a technology that could aggregate
and store student information for educational institutions and then release it to
approved third parties that would then personalize tools and dashboards specifically
for classroom educators and those students (Herold, 2014). They became the target

Advantage Of Language Localization
Language localization is the adaptation of a translated text, product or service to fit
the local country or region. It is also sometimes shortened to L10N for the first letter,
the last letter and the ten letters between. Language localization differs from basic
text translation because it requires a study of the local culture. Translationis literally
word for word, whereas localization focuses on idiomatic expressions, puns, habits and
tastes of the people in different regions.
If we take a look at different cultures, we will see, that even within the same
language, there are many different dialects. These dialects change depending on the
region and specific community. Idioms can vary vastly between languages and
regions. For example, my family is originally from Italy. In Italy, someone might
say Avere le braccine corte , which literally translated means to have short arms. In
America, we would call you cheap. I live in America, so if I go to the bar with

On business websites advertising products and services, the content should transition
well from one language to the next. Aside from making sure the text is easy to
understand, we need to make sure all the components function properly. The design
should accommodate non western letters, such as Arabic, and double byte
languages, like Chinese and Japanese. These languages tend to take up more space
than the Western alphabet. Other details that should be considered are time zones,
local currency, properly formatted addresses, phone numbers and dates. Another
important aspect of any business website are the graphics. Graphics should appeal
to your local market or appeal to everyone on an international level. A product
developed and originally marketed in Iceland, might have an Icelandic flag in the
graphics. If this business expands to serve other countries, the Icelandic flag no
longer appeals to the target
Paid Tribute To Viennese Waltzes By Maurice Ravel
Maurice Ravel was intrigued with the Viennese waltz, which came to symbolize
joyfulness in Austria. Ravel paid tribute to Viennese waltzes. It took him awhile to
finish composing La Valse because of WWI. By the time the war ended, the feelings
around the waltz had changed. It was less joyful. Ravel composed an almost
ominous piece that reflected the change. La Valse begins on a low note, but higher
playful tones come in. It sounds like a waltz in the beginning; it has ascending and
descending notes with a beat. Then after a few moments, La Valse becomes more
dramatic sounding. Drums and other instruments add a strong and loud sound to the
music. Towards the end of La Valse, the music becomes dark and ominous. It is loud
and a low tone.
Summary Of Comparing The Grass In The Wind By Ruth L
Silko
In this passage, Ruth L. Ozeki is portraying the theme of isolation, loneliness, and
death or suicide. The theme of death and suicide is apparent when Akiko wonders
what it would be like to be incapacitated like the girl. The word wonders connotes a
sense of desire and admiration as if to be deprived from strength is something
Akiko wants. Perhaps, Akiko wants to slip into a coma in order to escape from
pain and responsibilities. The use of the term slip gives the impression that being in
a state of coma is easily achieved. Moreover, the theme of isolation and loneliness
can be seen through the fact that no one knows about her illness. Akiko is
surrounded by high rise buildings that has a population five times that of town of

Silko uses similes to portray the value of the mountain lion. The mountain lion s
motion were like the shimmering of tall grass in the wind. Comparing the mountain
lion to the imagery of shimmering tall grass in the wind portrays a magical and
ethereal like scene. The imagery gives the impression that there is beauty and value
found in something fundamental. Moreover, the theme of transformation is evident
through the mountain lions relentless motions. The mountain lion changes dark as
lava rocks, and suddenly as bright as a field of snow. The dark as lava rocks indicates
fear, confusion, and overall negativity. On the other hand, bright as a field of snow
signifies clarity, rebirth, and cleansing. The motions of the mountain lion is parallel
to Tayo s experience and Tayo recognizes the changing as he whispers: mountain lion,
becoming what you are with each breath. Tayo learned about the significance of the
mountain lion and a lesson during their encounter. This passage and its themes are
important it is the realization to his transformation. Their encounter is pivotal since it
makes the connection between nature and humans. It shows that nature and humans
are interconnected and there are parallels. The theme of transformation is crucial as it

Cassiopeia Research Paper
Cassiopeia is the constellation I have chosen. It is a very interesting constellation,
comprised of various stars named with a Greek letter followed by Cassiopeiae (e.g.
Alpha Cassiopeiae). The stars also have various traditional names of other origin, for
instance Alpha is traditionally called Shedir from Arabic. I chose the constellation
partly because I like the name, but it also has interesting origins and I am glad I
looked up more details about it.
Cassiopeia is not just comprised of stars, though, as there are also nebulae and
supernova remnants (including that of Tycho s Star). As Cassiopeia is made up of
many different celestial objects, it is not possible to say exactly how far away it is;
however, its closest star (Eta) is 19.42 light years away and its brightest (Alpha) is
229 light years away.

Cassiopeia is said to have been the wife of King Cepheus of Ethiopia. She boasted
that she and her daughter were more beautiful than the nymph daughters (Nereids) of
Nereus, which angered Poseidon, who decided to destroy the kingdom of Ethiopia.
To attempt to appease the sea gods, Cassiopeia tied Persephone (her daughter) to a
rock as a sacrifice. Andromeda was saved by Perseus.
Poseidon decided that Cassiopeia deserved punishment, so she was tied to a chair in
the heavens. This meant that she was turned upside down half the time, and that is
what the constellation is said to represent.

Urban Legend Of Crocodiles In The Harlem City
The legends of crocodiles in the sewers of major cities is a gripping form of urban
legend that makes it own genre, between horror and cryptozoology. The legend in this
form extends as far back as the 1930 s in the United States, and has been circulated
through the internet since the internet itself circulated the globe, and many accounts
of sightings have spread through Youtube s pseudo documentary community, and
Facebook s unique niche for fantastic tales. Humans crave wild and fictitious stories
of monsters in the city, and a creative few supply them with such tales. This legend is
stamped throughout American history and each version of it has the same theme a
vicious beast lurking beneath our cities, lying in wait to swallow it s next victim....

The reptiles were rumored to survive the plumbing, and eventually make their way
to the city sewers, living their days out beneath urban centres, eating rats and refuse,
and frightening the occasional sanitary worker or pipe engineer. Certain accounts of
this legend vary, sometimes changing the city, altering the animal, or exaggerating
how the teller reacted, such as taking the offensive and killing the beast. Salvatore
Condoluci is one of the first to report this incident. He initially claimed that he had
caught and ultimately killed a seven to eight foot long alligator they discovered
beneath an open manhole on 123rd Street near the Harlem River, (NYT 2009). The
most popular renditions of the beast in the sewer involve different animals. In the
recent Suicide Squad movie, the character Killer Croc, who is a human genetically
spliced with a crocodile, is forced to live in the sewers of a maximum security
prison camp, furthering the idea that reptiles are suited to live in sewers. In the
most recent Spider Man movie, spider man is forced to batter with Dr. Curt
Connors, a man who is also genetically spliced with a lizard, and takes refuge in
New York s sewer system, away from the human populace. The most iconic

Why waste matters
What is waste? Waste is what all humans on earth throw away into their garbage bins
or onto the side of the road. Everything that humans use and consume eventually turns
into waste and must go somewhere. This process of using the Earth s natural
resources and then throwing them away shortly after will not be sustainable and
measures must be taken to help the environment.
There are massive implications with waste being neglected. When waste is sent to
land fills some of it anaerobically rots and creates methane, which is 20 times more
potent then carbon
Analysis Of The Film Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid
At a very young age of eight, David Fincher s passion for cinema grew when he
was inspired by the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). Born in
1962 Denver, Colorado, David Fincher moved to Ashland, Oregon in his teens,
where he graduated from Ashland High School. During high school, he directed
plays, designed sets, and managed lighting after school. One summer, he and a
friend attended the Berkley Film Institute s summer program, where he hoped to
learn film as a true art form but instead was taught the technical production. Either
way he was happy to engage is this and as his early film industry career started, he
was a production assistant at his local television news station. Years went by as he
directed propaganda films followed by becoming a well known music director until
his first movie feature debut Aliens 3 in 1992. However, the American director David
Fincherdidn t become a modern 21st century visionary until his creation of the film
Se7en (1995). The huge success from this film started Fincher s popularity in the
film industry. From there he continued to make ironic movies we know today such
as: Fight Club (1999), Zodiac (2007), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008),
The Social Network (2010), Gone Girl, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Reviewing his work, you can see he is best known for creating dark thrillers and has a
reoccurring artistic style to his movies. Fincher presents interesting film techniques

One of the major reasons for this is the decrease of the technicians guarantee rate

rate even higher. The problem with the PPP rate is that not all technicians will get

The advantages of shifting from wage rates to piece rate pay is piece rate pay is more
preferred in customer service jobs, like in the case of Safelite Auto glass the more
the number of customers the more beneficial it is for the employees as well as the
company. The first advantage is that it motivates even the weakest technician to
work hard as the more work they do the more salary they get. It s a good
opportunity for a technician to complete more jobs than the average number of
jobs a day which helps them to earn more than the hourly based pay rates. The
second advantage is it is more cost effective as the company is paying only for the
number of jobs done by the technician whereas you have to pay evenly for all
technicians regardless of their efforts if it was an hourly wage pay. Next
advantage is it is easy to identify the good and the bad technicians by this piece per
rate pay based on the number of jobs each technician does on an average day, by
this the company can eliminate the workers who do not perform good and can also
provide incentives and more recognition for good performing technicians which
would further more motivate the technicians and increase the productivity of the
company. This piece rate pay is a WIN WIN situation for the company as more
productive the employees are more money the

Violence In The Media Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "Violence in the Media" presents a challenging endeavor that requires a delicate balance between expressing one's thoughts and maintaining objectivity. • 2. The Simpsons Feminist Analysis During the 1980s, family sitcoms were thriving in the US with shows like Alf, Family Ties and Different Strokes. These programmes were fairly docile, focusing on instilling the ties of the American family unit. However, this all changed in 1989 when The Simpsons was premiered on Fox. Instead of playing it safe, The Simpsons seemed to mock American values rather than embrace them in the same way other popular shows did at the time. They were satirical and often dark. The Simpsons were not afraid to shine a spotlight on big issues in American culture. Not only was The Simpsons breaking the mould but it was also incredibly successful. With 29 seasons and counting, it is the longest running sitcom and the longest running animated series of all time. With such huge audiences, The Simpsons has undoubtedly influenced the public with its examination of various topics. I m going to conduct a feminist analysis of The Simpsons and study the representation of sexism by looking at the episode Girls Just Wanna Have Sums . To conduct a feminist analysis of The Simpsons I must clarify how I define feminism. I understand that feminism is a difficult term to define but in this essay I m going to be using this working definition by Estelle Freedman: Feminism is a belief that although women and men are inherently of equal worth, most societies privilege men as a group. As a result, social movements are necessary to achieve political equality between women and men, with the understanding that gender always intersects with other social hierarchies. Also, to explore how the show represents sexism I will make clear how I define sexism. Sexism can be defined as discrimination based on gender or as a set of attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender (Swim, 2004). The Simpsons engagement with feminism is complex and because the series is so long I m going to focus on two episodes that centre on Lisa. I will be looking at Girls Just Wanna Have Sums This episode is centred around Lisa Simpson. It is important to note Lisa Simpsons has status as a feminist icon in pop culture. For example, she was featured in Ms. Magazine as one of the many faces of feminism. She is also often
  • 3. Comparing Quinceanera And We Real Cool Quinceanera by Judith Ortiz Cofer and We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks are two poems that describe different coming of age circumstances. Although some aspects of the poems language usage are similar, the two poems are rather different in the aspects of narration and plot. Frankly, the two poems are very different in their syntax and language usage. Quinceanera is very descriptive: I am to wash my own clothes and sheets from this day on, as if the fluids of my body were poison, as if the trickle of blood I believe travels from my heart to the world were shameful (11 16). In contrast, Brooks is rather precise and terse with her words: We real cool. We left school (1 2). However, both poems utilize enjambment and carry sentences

  • 5. Soft Tissue Repair Case Study Soft Tissue Repair Case Study: The Four Phase of Soft Tissue Healing and Therapeutic Interventions that can be used to Aid Progression of Repair. In this essay we will discuss the four different phases of the soft tissue healing process and also explain all the components of each particular phase and how it functions. This will also include sport therapeutic interventions that may contribute to the healing process and that may maximise healing of soft tissue. First Phase Bleeding This particular phase is immediate and depending on the vascularity of the tissue that is damaged although it only happens during the first few hours as demonstrated by (Watson, 2006) in this illustration of the length of each phase. The bleeding occurs following trauma to the tissue this could be an overload of a tissue or even external force. One of the bodies first initial haemodynamic responses to bleeding is vasoconstriction which narrows the blood vessels causing decreased blood velocity, in 2008 (Watson) states that this is due to the release of noradrenaline(norepinephrine); the reaction last lasts only a few seconds to a minute. It is also explained by (Terkeltaub Ginsberg, 1988) that both lymphatic and blood vessels are plugged to limit any fluid loss and platelet, aggregation is stimulated by the presence of thrombin. Vasoconstriction responds primarily to haemostasis which is a response to prevent blood loss and a platelet plug is formed to support the prevention of excessive
  • 6. Sleep Deprivation In Newborns During our coursework over these past few weeks, we have learned a lot about a newborns characteristics and their development. One of the things that Lola remembers about her newborn son was that when he slept, he liked to curl up. As we learned on BabyCenter, newborns appear to be scrunched up because they were curled up in a fetus position for 9 months. However, as time progress, newborns slowly begin to stretch out as they learn to use their arms and legs. Sleep deprivation is common among many new mothers because babies simply cannot sleep throughout the night. According to WebMD, Newborns need to eat surpasses their need to sleep. Babies who are breastfeed tend to eat every two hours during the first few months. As Lola explained, her
  • 7. Robert Frost s Home Burial In Home Burial, Robert Frost uses language and imagery to show how differently a man and a women deal with grief. The poem not only describes the grief the two feel for the loss of their child but also the impending death of a marriage. Frost shows this by using a dramatic style set in New England. In his narrative poem, Frost starts a tense conversation between the man and the wifewhose first child had died recently. Not only is there dissonance between the couple, but also a major communication conflict between the husbandand the wife. As the poem opens, the wife is standing at the top of a staircase looking at her child s grave through the window. Her husband is at the bottom of the stairs ( He saw her from the bottom of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at lines 3 9 you are able to see that the wife looks at her world through eyes of fear: Looking back over her shoulder at some fear. She took a doubtful step and then undid it To raise herself and look again... And her face changed from terrified to dull. (l. 3 9) Even though the wife may feel that her husband does not understand her grief, he does try to reach out to her. He implores her, Help me, then (l.46). He knows that he has a difficult time communicating with her and observes: My words are nearly always an offence. I don t know how to speak of anything. So as to please you. But I might be taught. I should suppose. I can t say I see how. A man must partly give up being a man. With women folk. (l.48 53) The husband acknowledges that she is grieving and asks her, Let me into your grief (l.62). He pleads with her, Give me my chance (l.64). He asks for help in such a way that his wife pushes him away again. She throws the accusation at him, There you go sneering now! (l.70). This starts a second argument between the two. The argument now is whether the husband can grieve for the child, in the way that he is allowed without society looking down on him? The husband wants the world to know that he is hurting too, but how can he do this? The husband was never taught to grieve, so he is in the process of learning how to do this. The wife does not
  • 8. Hofstra University Analysis There are many reasons why I am applying to Hofstra University, but three in particular compelled me to do so; the beautiful campus, highly regarded school of business and family. I was first introduced to Hofstra in November of 2014 when I traveled with my Grandparents to attend my cousin s first collegiate basketball game. As a result of my first visit, I had a desire to learn more about the university and knew that it could possibly be a good fit for me when I began my college search. In 2016, their musings are, for the most part, still highly applicable. Neither denies the existence of either a culture war or political polarization. Rather, their theses differ in the extent to which they apply these terms to the general electorate rather than to the political elites. Wilson argues that both elites and voters are polarized, a phenomenon driven by the media, homogenization of political parties, and interest groups.1 However, Fiorina maintains that the polarization in the voting patterns of the electorate is merely a reflection of elitepartisan stances rather than the polarization of the voters themselves.2 In examining their arguments, it is evident that Fiorina had the more tenable thesis in regard to the polarization of the electorate in 2004. Yet this does not preclude the existence of a culture war that has led polarization in 2016. Today, Wilson s theories are more applicable to the political and cultural context. Looking towards the 2018 midterm elections, the Democratic party in particular should focus on cultivating moderate stances that can appeal to both Democrats and Republicans with the aim of gaining seats in the Senate and House of Representatives. Writing in the political landscape prior to the 2004 presidential election, Fiorina frequently invokes the 2000 presidential election as

To be exact the bible mentions the killing of someone to be murder at least sixty three times. One of the Ten Commandments found in Exodus chapter twenty is You shall not murder. God sees every human being as living. Whether they had physical problems or mental problems he still cared enough to create them. Abortion is the killing of not only a humanbeing but also an innocent human being. God never once let anyone get away with murdering a human being out of cause ( DLTK s Bible Activities for kids. The story of Cain and Abel. ). Think about Cain and Abel. Cain killed Abel out of a quick rage of jealousy, all because God was more pleased with Abel s sacrifice. God punished Cain by giving him a life of misery and by putting a mark on him so no man would kill him ( Murder). Abortion might be a fix for a period of time but when judgment day comes you will be accounted for it. We all need to consider God s word as a solid textbook to study and never miss the answer instead of trying to find ways around his laws. If God says murder is not allowed then abortion is not allowed Briefly I want to talk about why I think abortion should be illegal in every state. Growing up I always saw little babies as being innocent. They had no care in the world and they really only knew how to do a few things. That baby couldn t think for itself or take care of itself. Those who support the NCAA s decision not to pay the players agree that there is no payment system that would fairly pay all students of all sports. Some can argue that the restrictions goes against for the love of the game and is more about which players make the team more money. USA Today s Eitzen D. When it comes to race day attire you have two real options that will give you an advantage over someone wearing a normal training shoe. These are a racing flat and a spike. A racing flat has the ability to support an athlete on uneven terrain and provide them cushioning on hard surfaces making them incredibly versatile. Also a racing flat is more than capable of being worn for races as long as a marathon while being light enough to give you great increases in performance. This can be supported by, A study published in a 2012 issue of the Journal of the American College of Sports notes that people who run in barefoot or with minimalist shoes such as racing flats instinctively land toward the ball of the foot. This reduces the risk of injury, which is more prevalent for those who land on the heel (Yemi 1). This is a clear fact that has been supported by numerous studies. The nature of a racing flat allows your foot to go through a more natural motion while running. This reduces injury. Another factor that makes a racing flat good at reducing injury is that it still has sufficient cushioning. Also in the study conducted by the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine they say that In this study, the amplified loading rate, stiffness, and peak vertical impact force demonstrate that running spikes and flats produced a greater external force on the body. The initial impact force between the foot and the ground is directly transmitted to the leg and can potentially be an influential factor in injury risk (logan, Hunter, and Hopkins 6). The cushioning as mentioned previously is light enough to give an athlete better performance while still substantial enough to protect the runner from some of this initial shock of running on a hard surface such as a track. A spike on the other hand has little to none resulting in more force being exhibited on the joints and

In the first Five Year Plan, it focused on agriculture. Before the plan, the farmers and the workers essentially worked on their own farms that were run by their families, allowing them to have the freedom to do as they pleased, but with Socialism on the brink everything changed. Socialism includes the government in charge of everything, meaning that collective farming was the new thing. With that farmers and the peasants were taken away from the farm and then everyone was combined into what they called a collective farm. This meant that everyone on that farm had to work together to get the outcome that they wanted. People didn t have the choice of having their farm put into a collective farm. In the case if anyone didn t like the idea or spoke out against the actions they would be shipped to Siberia where they would work for hard labor or they could be shipped to concentration camps. The idea of dekulakization happened to the kulaks, meaning that if there were villages that had too many peasants would be liquidated. It was the same concept as collective farming. The mountain lion changes dark as lava rocks, and suddenly as bright as a field of snow. The dark as lava rocks indicates fear, confusion, and overall negativity. On the other hand, bright as a field of snow signifies clarity, rebirth, and cleansing. • 34. Cassiopeia Research Paper Cassiopeia is the constellation I have chosen. It is a very interesting constellation, comprised of various stars named with a Greek letter followed by Cassiopeiae (e.g. Alpha Cassiopeiae). The stars also have various traditional names of other origin, for instance Alpha is traditionally called Shedir from Arabic. I chose the constellation partly because I like the name, but it also has interesting origins and I am glad I looked up more details about it. Cassiopeia is not just comprised of stars, though, as there are also nebulae and supernova remnants (including that of Tycho s Star). As Cassiopeia is made up of many different celestial objects, it is not possible to say exactly how far away it is; however, its closest star (Eta) is 19.42 light years away and its brightest (Alpha) is 229 light years away. 2: ... She boasted that she and her daughter were more beautiful than the nymph daughters (Nereids) of Nereus, which angered Poseidon, who decided to destroy the kingdom of Ethiopia. To attempt to appease the sea gods, Cassiopeia tied Persephone (her daughter) to a rock as a sacrifice. Andromeda was saved by Perseus. Poseidon decided that Cassiopeia deserved punishment, so she was tied to a chair in the heavens. This meant that she was turned upside down half the time, and that is what the constellation is said to represent. 3: Despite the warnings in previous days and hours, three fishermen set off to try to catch the fabled Scarlet Eel. The fishermen reasoned that if the Eel caused the storms, it would surely be there when the storms appeared. They were skilled in their craft, and although they rarely spoke each was confident of their chances against the

The reptiles were rumored to survive the plumbing, and eventually make their way to the city sewers, living their days out beneath urban centres, eating rats and refuse, and frightening the occasional sanitary worker or pipe engineer. Certain accounts of this legend vary, sometimes changing the city, altering the animal, or exaggerating how the teller reacted, such as taking the offensive and killing the beast. Salvatore Condoluci is one of the first to report this incident. He initially claimed that he had caught and ultimately killed a seven to eight foot long alligator they discovered beneath an open manhole on 123rd Street near the Harlem River, (NYT 2009). The most popular renditions of the beast in the sewer involve different animals. The first advantage is that it motivates even the weakest technician to work hard as the more work they do the more salary they get. It s a good opportunity for a technician to complete more jobs than the average number of jobs a day which helps them to earn more than the hourly based pay rates. The second advantage is it is more cost effective as the company is paying only for the number of jobs done by the technician whereas you have to pay evenly for all technicians regardless of their efforts if it was an hourly wage pay. Next advantage is it is easy to identify the good and the bad technicians by this piece per rate pay based on the number of jobs each technician does on an average day, by this the company can eliminate the workers who do not perform good and can also provide incentives and more recognition for good performing technicians which would further more motivate the technicians and increase the productivity of the company.
