American policing has been around for years and is extremely likely to be around for
hundreds of generations to come. Very early policing and punishments could include
public humiliation and even torture. Times have changed since the beginnings of

The police officers that went into the public had to meet certain qualifications. The
officer had to act in a professional manner while in the public. Theses officers were
even tempered and did not lash out quickly with violence physically or verbally.

For decades there have been an abundance amount of gang activity going on around
the world and it continues to grow. Every year there is an increasing amount of
teenagers over 600,000 that are rushed to the emergency rooms and taken into
hospital care due to gang related injuries (Forster, Grigsby, Unger Sussman, 2015).
Most of these children are very young and have not even enter high school, and
others have not even completed middle school. Many of the teens that have been
rushed to the hospital have also been involved in some sort of a serious violent gang
related activity themselves, and by the age of 17, they would have already been in
a physical fight, or would have already been initiated into a gang. In most cases
when being initiated into a gang the member awaiting to be apart of a gang must
commit some sort of crime, such as theft of a vehicle, or robbery. According to
Forster, Grigsby, Unger, and Sussman, community violence exposure, having friends
or family members in a gang, and having lower social self control, would all have a
positive association to aggressive behavior, within the youth community. This is the
hypothesis that was created by the researchers in which they speculated before

Introduction
This research seeks to examine crossing within polylingual families with contested
structure. I analyzed a scene from the television show Trailer Park Boys in which a
three member family interact using the concepts of crossing, facework, and footing,
in order to answer my research question. I found that the central character uses
crossing as a method of performing facework. As a result of this, he also indicates
preference and dispreference to his family members.
Theoretical Framework
Crossing involves someone speaking in another language, dialect, or pattern
which feels distinctly other (Rampton, 2000, p. 54). This can occur in a wide
variety of contexts such as first generation Americans using English in a non
English household in order to embrace one cultural system over another. Or, using
a different pattern of speech around a significant other s parents in order to convey
positive social values. In the case of the scene I analyzed, the central character s
language is already crossed as he is a white man speaking almost exclusively
African American Vernacular English (AAVE). He further uses crossing to interact
with his Hispanic girlfriend. As a character, his crossed language is one of his most

Now to professional teams, I have been a huge fan of the Denver Broncos since I
could talk. I love Sports Authority Field and the entire city of Denver. It brought me
joy when Peyton Manning joined them even though we all know the defense won

Introduction
I think Philip the Fortunate was a very good French King. He was known for being
the first French king of the Valois dynasty. His reign saw the beginning of the
Hundred Years War and the arrival of the Black Death

In May of 1328, Philip of Valois became King Philip VI of France. In August of that
year, the count of Flanders appealed to Philip for help in putting down a revolt. The
king responded by sending his knights to slaughter thousands at the Battle of Cassel.
Not long after that, Robert of Artois, who had helped Philip get the crown, claimed
the countship of Artois; but a royal candidate did so, as well. Philip instituted judicial
proceedings against Robert, turning his one time supporter into a bitter enemy.
It wasn t until 1334 that trouble began with England. Edward III, who didn t
particularly like paying homage to Philip for his holdings in France, decided to
flout Philip s interpretation of Salic Law and lay claim to the French crown
through his mother s line. (Edward was most likely spurred on in his animosity
toward Philip by Robert of Artois.) In 1337 Edward landed on French soil, and what

I analyzed a scene from the television show Trailer Park Boys in which a three member family interact using the concepts of crossing, facework, and footing, in order to answer my research question.
