Mafalda Charlie Brown
Mafalda: The Argentine Charlie Brown? In 1963, Argentine cartoon strip artist Joaquín Salvador
Lavado, better known as Quino, was commissioned to create a Peanuts esk advertisement for a brand
of domestic appliances (Kuntz). To familiarize himself with Peanuts, American cartoon by Charles M.
Schulz, Quino purchased all of the Peanuts books that he could find in Buenos Aires (Kuntz). After
studying Schulz s work Quino adapted the general concept for an Argentine audience and Mafalda
was born (Kuntz). Unfortunately the world did not meet Mafalda in 1963 through the ad campaign
because the magazine that was going to publish the cartoons realized it was closet advertising (qtd in
Kuntz). It would take another year before Mafalda made her debut in the Argentine magazine Primera
Plana (Cosse). Mafalda went on to run parallel to Peanuts from 1964 to 1973 (Patten; Charles M.
Schulz Museum). For the decade that they were both in print how do they compare to each other?
Given that Quino originally based Mafalda of Peanuts in what ways are they similar and different? An

In Charlie Brown the parents and teachers of the children are never shown (Charles M. Schulz
Museum). The only interactions that the children have with adults in the comic strip show the adults
saying mwa mwa mwa mwa (qtd in Molinari). In Mafalda it is the exact opposite with Mafaldas
parents and teachers not only shown, but also play an integral part in the comic strip (see fig. 1).
Quino shows Mafalda living in a normal world populated by both adults and children (Foster). The
comparison makes Schulzs world seem strange that there are no adults, but only children. With
Mafalda we see her parents and her little brother Guille, but the only family we see of Charlie Brown
is his little sister Sally (Foster; Charles M. Schulz

Holden Caulfield
The character of Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in The Rye, is one of the most studied and
theorized protagonists in literature to this day. He leaves critics mystified and speculating on the
depths of the personality and the reasoning behind his actions. The story takes place in New York City
following Holden s explosion from a string of prestigious preparatory schools. Three days of
meandering around the city gives the reader insight to his history and to the question of why, perhaps,
he is less than mentally sound. The better answer to that question is found in the research of the man
who created Holden and his world, J.D. Salinger. The author has had his own bouts with mental illness
and there are many similarities between the character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Growing up he was just like any other child you d see on the street, bright and bubbly. As he grew
older he became less social and a bit of a loner. He tended to keep to himself in school and after
failing out and being sent to Pennsylvania for military school he began to write. Salinger spent the
year of 1940 loitering around New York City, going to bars, buying records, attending plays and
spending time around Park Avenue (Evans 738). Even in the thick of war he seemed unfazed. One
soldier said that he remembered Salinger huddled underneath a table writing while the area was under
attack. In Salinger s earliest letters, it is said that he sounds entirely like the character of Holden
Caulfield; he refers to himself as kid and claims to be knocked out by things, a speech pattern adapted
in Catcher in the Rye by Holden (Hoban 329). In these letters he asserted the world was utterly corrupt
and believed in the powers of innocence (Coles 415) After becoming famous for his writings, J.D. was
strongly opposed to the idea of publicity. It came to a point where he asked his publisher to burn all
the fan letters [he] received and to exclude his picture from any of his book jackets (Lutz). Salinger
was a desprately lonely and sensitive man , he believed that he could save himself from destructive
criticism by resisting the temptation for the public s recognition and fame (Coles 415). He barely left
his house and became a recluse in his last years before

Classroom Behavior In The Classroom
In the article A STUDY ON THE MANAGEMENT OF CLASSROOM BEHAVIOUR PROBLEMS
AT SECONDARY LEVEL by Dr. G. N. Tiwari and Heena Panwar, recommendations were given to
better the classroom environment to make it conducive to learning. Some of the recommendations
were stopping misbehavior immediately, using nonverbal signals, using simple and clear instructions,
researching on behavior problems and planning should be done well. These recommendations will
further be explained throughout this essay. The first clear recommendation to curbing behavioral
problems is stopping misbehavior immediately. The teacher must always try to have an eye and give
an ear to the students in the class, therefore, they must always be aware. This is not always easy, so the
teacher might slip up and the students uses that moment to do something wrong. When the student
uses his/her opportunity to disrupt the class because they do not understand what is been taught, the
teacher must immediately stop it from progressing. According to Bandura, Positive (or negative)
reinforcement will have little impact if the reinforcement offered externally does not match with an
individual s needs. Reinforcement can be positive or negative, but the important factor is that it will
usually lead to a change in a person s behavior. This shows that when the teacher stops the student and
uses his/her method of punishing the student, the student will be negatively reinforced to not to
perform the action again (McLeod, 2016). The

A Unified Probabilistic Generative Model
To model user check in activities, we propose a unified probabilistic generative model TRM to sim
ulate the process of user s decision making for the selection of POIs. Figure 1 shows the graphical
representation of TRM where N, K and R denote the number of users, topics and regions, re
spectively. We first introduce the notations of our model and list them in Table II. Our input data,
i.e., users check in records, are modeled as observed random variables, shown as shaded circles in
Figure 1. As a POI has both semantic and geographical attributes, we introduce two latent random
variables, topic z and region r, which are responsible for generating them, respectively. Based on the
two latent factors, TRM aims to model and infer users ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, each topic z in TRM is not only associated with a word distribution ϕz, but also with a distribu
tion over time ψz. This design enables ϕz and ψz to be mutually influenced and enhanced during the
topic discovery process, facilitating the clustering of the words of POIs with similar temporal patterns
into the same topic with high probability. To integrate the check in time information to the topic
discovery process, we employ the widely adopted discretization method in [Gao et al. 2013;
Yuan et al. 2013] to split a day into hourly based slots.
In the standard topic models [Blei et al. 2003; Wallach et al. 2009], a document (i.e., a bag of words)
contains a mixture of topics, represented by a topic distribution, and each word has a hidden topic
label. While this is a reasonable assumption for long documents, for short document Wv, it is most
likely to be about a single topic. We therefore assign a single topic to the document Wv.
Similar idea of assigning a single topic to a twitter post has been used before [Zhao et al. 2011].
User Mobility Modeling. Different from users online behaviors in the virtual world, users check in
activities in the physical world are limited by travel distance. So, it is also importan t to capture users
spatial patterns (or activity ranges) according to the location distributions of their historical checked in
POIs. The spatial clustering phenomenon indicates that users are most likely to check in a number

Essay on Voltaire s Candide
Everything happens for the best, in this the best of all possible worlds. This is a statement that can be
found many times within Voltaire s Candide. Voltaire rejected Lebitizian Optimism, using Candide as
a means for satirizing what was wrong with the world, and showing that, in reality, this is not the best
of all possible worlds.
The philosophy of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, which Voltaire called optimism, is one of the main
themes of Candide. The two main points of Leibnitzian philosophy are that God is beneficent, and that
in creating the world, He created the best possible one. Leibnitz did not argue that the world was
perfect or that evil was non existent, but thanks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voltaire does most of his satirizing through the character of Dr. Pangloss, an unconditional follower of
Leibnitz s philosophy and Candide s mentor. Pangloss ramblings are not personal attacks on Leibnitz,
but in some way represent the thoughts of a typical optimist. He is a very hopeful character in the
story because he refuses to accept bad. When Candide encounters Pangloss after a long period of time,
Pangloss explains how he was almost hanged, then dissected, then beaten. Candide asks the
philosopher if he still believes that everything is for the best, and Pangloss replies that he still held his
original views. Voltaire frequently exaggerates his point on optimism; there is nobody in reality who is
positive about everything all the time, especially after so many horrible experiences. One could say
that Pangloss is irrational and idiotic, and Voltaire tries to depict how inexplicable his beliefs are
which do not measure up to reality.
Another example of how Voltaire ridicules Pangloss optimistic philosophy is the mention of the
Lisbon earthquake and fire. Even though the disastrous earthquake took over 30,000 lives, Pangloss
still upheld his philosophical optimism by stating, quot; For all that is for the best...It is impossible that
things should not be other than they are; for everything is right. (26) quot; The disaster in Lisbon
affected Voltaire s life so much that he wrote the Poem

The Boom Of The Music In The 90 s
The music has the power to connect different people in groups and it reflects how well the society is
and which are the biggest problems in our daily lives. For this, the musical themes have defined the
last decades with the main social, political and economic topics. The main purpose of this essay is to
show the relationship between the musical themes and the social facts for the last three decades. The
boom of the music in the 90 s had as the central topic the creation of new ideologies, Michael Jackson
with his single We are the world , talks about how the people connects with others, no matter how
long we are from each other. Shania Twain had a boom in the middle 90 s, a pop country singer that
supports the idea of gender equity, she established the genre of independent woman in her songs.
Groups like Nirvana established the idea of revolution, encouraging the society to end with the
political system with singles such as Smells like teen spirit , in which Nirvana explains how the
teenagers are enclosed by the rules of society and the extreme desire to be free or

The Ramayana Family Role
The Ramayana
Hindus are extremely respectful and prideful people with many strong core beliefs. These beliefs have
been passed down through the ages in The Ramayana. Throughout this epic poem, Rama, his family,
and many others exemplify what it means to be Hindu. Rama is considered to be a perfect Hindu and
follows all aspects of Hinduism flawlessly. This includes following duty, honor, responsibilities based
on a person s place in society, and most important to Rama, family. In the epic The Ramayana, family
is portrayed as the most important aspect to the Hindu belief. The importance of family is shown early
in the epic when King Dasaratha begs of Viswamithra to not take Rama away from his family, or at

Review Of The Fall Of Constantinople Essay
Jeffery Jacob World History [Teacher name here] December 21st, 2016 The Fall of Constantinople
Byzantium was one of the many Greek city states that stratled along the coasts of the Aegean Sea. As
an abundant source of Grains, fish, and trade, she played a pivotal role as a landing for Darius colossal
army against the Greeks; a battleground between Athens and Sparta during the Pelloponessian war;
and a prized tributary under Roman supervision. The Roman Emperor, Constantine I, renamed the city
after himself and the newly christened Constantinople grew to eclipse Rome as the greatest Capital of
Europe. Even after the continent was plunged into the so called Dark Ages ; protected by the
indominable Theodosian Wall, The Queen of Cities , as the Greek speaking Byzantines called her,
retained her position as the most prestine City of the early Middle Ages. And became the seat of power
for the great Basilieis, Greek plural for Emperors, and the venerated Patriarchs of the Eastern
Orthodox Church. Yet the middle ages made life more turbulant for the aged Byzantine Empire as it
lost vast swathes of land to the surging Muslim Caliphate; struggled with internal corruption
throughout its lifetime; clung desperately to its commercial power in the face of competition from
merchant republics such as Genoa and Venice; and embroiled itself into several centuries of conflicts
with the Turks over control of Anatolia, modern day Turkey. However, its Religious influence grew

Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment Ethical Violations
There were many ethical violations committed in the Tuskegee syphilis experiment, one of those
ethical issues is unfairness because patients were deceived about the real purpose doctors had towards
them. Patients were unaware that they had become part of a study and that they weren t going to get
any real medical treatment from the doctors. Therefore, another ethical violation is racism because
black men were treated unfairly due to their skin color. Since, the patients were unaware of the study
and its purpose another ethical violation is that there was no existence of an informed consent that let
the patient know the procedure, purpose, consequences, and the compensation for participating.
Therefore, the patients in the Tuskegee syphilis

The Benefits Of Community Gardening
Another aspect of community gardening, is regarding those who participate in it. Community gardens
can be seen in many cities, with the community coming together to grow produce and relationships
along the way. However, it is becoming a growing trend to start this idea at a younger scale. Many
schools across North America have started implementing a garden into their after school or
extracurricular programs. By introducing gardening to children at a young age allows for them to take
in many of the benefits that come from gardening, and encouraging new ways of engagement.
Gardening provides many hands on activities for children, including designing, planting, and
harvesting the food (Yost, 2009). Many studies have shown that children who take care of a garden, or
live near one, are more likely to show an interest in gardening as they grow up and develop a strong
relationship with gardens and trees (Lohr, 2005).
In California, school gardens have become very popular and are continuously promoting them through
the State s Education Department. An example of one of the schools in the state is Le Conte
Elementary School, which not only has flowers and vegetables, but also livestock, like goats and
chickens. The science curriculum at the school is very inclusive with gardening activities, such as
propagation, transplanting, and composting (Ferris, 2001).
There have been many studies on the effects of school gardens on children. They have shown that
students who participated in a

Analysis Of In Bruges And The Crying Game
In Martin McDonagh s In Bruges and Neil Jordan s The Crying Game, the concept of guilt and flight
are explored. The purpose of this essay is to explore these concepts and the life choices each of the
main characters make that ultimately lead to moral dilemmas. This essay will also explore
supplementary themes such as conflict, redemption and forgiveness.
In Bruges follows two Irish hitmen, Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken Daley (Brendan Gleeson). After a
completely botched job they performed in London, they are ordered by their boss, Harry Waters
(Ralph Fiennes) to hide out in Bruges and wait for further instructions. Although Ken is fascinated by
the city s architecture and history, Ray has nothing but disdain for it and wishes to return to London.
Could this be his punishment for a job gone awry? MC
Throughout the film In Bruges, we follow Ray and his emotional journey of guilt and conflict. He
chooses the career of a professional hitman and as a result, there should be no emotional attachments
associated in that decision. It s simply business. Or is it? His profession eventually leads him to an
unforeseen and unfortunate incident. But is it realistic for Ray to feel remorse? After all, it was his
choice to become a hitman to begin with.
While in London, Ray was ordered to kill a priest. For Ray, this never seemed to be an issue and he
never really questions the reason why. He assumes if he was ordered to kill a priest, he must have
done something depraved. As a result of carrying out his orders, he accidentally kills a young boy. MC
It is evident that Ray is overwhelmed by his actions and all of this plays out in the film when he flees
to Bruges.
As the story progresses, we discover that Ray is more than just a cold hearted hitman. He is a man
who is suffering. This is displayed throughout the film as he exhibits some strange and at times,
irrational behavior. He doesn t attempt to justify his actions, instead he plunges into a state of
depression and conflict. He s dead because of me. And I m trying to... been trying to get me head
around it, but I can t. I will have always have killed that little boy. That ain t ever going away. Ever.
Unless... maybe I go away. MC
Ray is left with a choice. He can continue to

Hbr Solution Unidentified Industries Essay
The Case of the Unidentified Industries 1995
Solution:
In order to find out the exact firm by analysing the financial structure of typical firms, first we need to
separate those firms which have zero inventory turnover (A, B, F and H) from those firms which have
zero debt ratio which in our case are (E, H and J) and we use the information to narrow down the
possibilities of each firm. In this case there are three groups of companies: 1) Firms having zero
inventory turnover. 2) Firms having zero debt. 3) Firms having all financial ratios given.
1) Firms having zero inventory turnover:

Firm H. Health Maintenance Organisation:
Health care organisations do business on cash basis. They provide proper medical services to different
people and they receive cash when operation ends and they don t use any debt to finance their
operating activities. The capital structure of this firm shows a zero inventory turnover and a huge
amount of cash from the customers from which partially is used to pay current liabilities and the
remaining is in the form of retain earning.
2) Firms having zero debt:
Under this category there are three firms which have zero debt ratios because the nature of these firms
show that all the financing is done by equity.
Firm E. Retail Drug Chain:
This type of business seems to be sole proprietor and the financial structure of this firm has maximum
number of inventories and zero level of debt financing. Most of the drug retailers usually have a large
amount of inventories due to any emergency situation and demand for the medicines is usually high.
In this case the high asset turnover shows that the firm is effectively doing business by selling off its
assets which in this case is medicines to generate more and more cash.

Estimating Glucose Concentration in Solution
Introduction
Glucose is very important in our daily lives. It gives us energy to carry out all of our activities. Cells
in our bodies need glucose to respire and in the process release the energy we need. Glucose is also a
type of carbohydrate. It has a chemical formula of C6H12O6 and is a monosaccharide reducing sugar
(Kolej Mara Banting Students Handbook for Biology HL Year 1). It is the simplest form of
carbohydrate. In this experiment, sulphuric acid, H2SO4 and potassium permanganate, KMnO4 is
added into glucose with different concentration and the time taken for the purple pink colour of
potassium permanganate solution to change to colourless is recorded. This is because glucose donates
electrons to the permanganate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Histone Modification And Its Relation On Schizophrenia Via...
Histone Modification and its relation to Schizophrenia via the BDNF Gene
Histone modifications have a very crucial role when it comes to silencing genes through chromatin
remodeling. Changes in histone modifications can highly disrupt neuronal functions, along with
inhibitions to the gene, BDNF (Brain derived neurotrophic factor), which is crucial for cognition,
learning, memory formation, and vulnerability to social life and experiences. Mutations in this gene
are associated with susceptibility to Schizophrenia. Increased inhibition of this gene has a positive
correlation with methylated CpG sites. Currently, anti depressants keep receptors active. I will try to
develop a method that would perhaps uninhibit the down regulation of BDNF.
Studies on abnormal gene expression in postmortem brain have revealed that histone methylation may
be a viable avenue for early detection for some cases of schizophrenia. Histone acetylation and H3
methylation appear to pave the way for CpG methylation. Recent findings point to a possible
mechanistic link with H3 and H4 methylation. Evidence suggests that the DNA methylation
machinery teams up with histone acetylation and H3 methylation to generate a self propagating cycle
that promotes long term transcriptional repression. Thanks to these discoveries, we might have begun
to resolve the long standing mystery of how CpG methylation patterns are established. I hypothesize
that it is possible to prevent hypermethylation and hyperacetylation

Characters In True Grit
Can there be some good in villains even though they are contrary to heroes? In the book True Grit,
there are two kinds of villains. Ones with a code of conduct, and ones that just do as they please. It is
thought that all thieves and bandits are considered purely evil, some villains like Lucky Ned Pepper; a
character in the book True Grit, and Leonard Snart from the TV show, The Flash, have specific rules
they go by that could suggest otherwise.
To begin, Leonard Snart, being the most aggressive and elusive, only works with villains that follow a
specific criterion. If they are found guilty of not obeying these rules, they will either be found frozen
or with a hole in their head. He demonstrates this code of conduct by enforcing one of these
statements to his former lackey: You know the rules. We don t shoot guards or cops unless it s the only
option (Berlanti, 4). Though Snart is the most wanted criminal in Central City, he does have standards
that keep him and those he works with, in line when doing a job.
Tom Chaney, on the other hand, does not have any code to direct him. Mattie states this clearly to
Lucky Ned Pepper when she is about to be left behind with Chaney. He will kill me, said I. You have
heard him say it. He has killed my father and now you will let him kill me (Portis, 191). Lucky Ned
orders Chaney not to kill Mattie or else he would not get paid. Later in the book, Chaney grows sick
of Mattie and tries to harm her, but does not succeed.

Refugees And Asylum Of Refugees
Hundreds of thousands of people every year are forced to leave their homes. Refugees are defined as
people who have to leave their homes in order to survive and be safe. Natural disasters and the folly of
man cause masses of people to flee their native countries into neighboring territories to wait until it is
safe to go back home or to relocate for good. A refugee refers to a person or people who, outside their
country of origin, are unable to save themselves from their country or are unable to return there for
fear of persecution (Jastram, 2001). What makes a refugee a refugee? Who deserves refugee status? A
common misconception is that refugees and asylum seekers are the same things. The right to seek
asylum was granted to people by the 1951 Geneva Convention. The 1967 Protocol expanded the
notion of refugee displacement from just Europe to the rest of the world following World War II
(Wettergren, 2014. 566). The terms are very different. An Asylum Seeker is defined as a person who
has left their country and has applied for recognition as a refugee in another country but is still waiting
for the decision on their application (Refugee 2011). When people are forced to leave their own
countries and immigrant to another one, they are considered asylum seekers until their requests for
refugee status has been accepted. After their application is accepted, they are officially recognized as a
refugee. The right to determine whether or not a person is a refugee is not reserved

The Externalities Of Taxation On Capital Gain
The externalities of taxation on capital gain have been a controversial debate among scholars,
economists and policy makers along the timeline of ever changing tax reforms in the history of the
United States. This introduction covers all the possible externalities that change in marginal tax rate
can have on investors incentives and timing to sell, portfolio strategy, tax revenue collected by the
government and the social welfare changes.
The first thing to clarify is that there are both positive and negative externalities on the effect of
taxation on capital gain. Timing to realize the capital gain is paramount since in the United States long
term gains (typically 1 year or more) will be taxed at a significantly lower rate than ordinary ... Show
more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since a higher tax rate leads to a lower amount of realization on capital gain, it would consequently
reduce the transaction fees or commission fees charged by the agencies, which eventually reduces the
market activity and causes a welfare loss.
The externality of a lower tax rate on the tax revenue could go either way. When we only consider the
static analysis, we have a negative externality that the tax revenue decreases obviously since the same
amount of realization is being taxed at a lower rate. When we consider other offsetting factors,
positive externalities come in to play important roles. The first positive externality is due to the
unlocking effect that increases the amount of realization on capital gain, which therefore increases the
tax revenue. The other positive externality is that lowering the tax rate on capital gain would result in
an increase in tax revenue due to peopleing pay taxes on higher value of their assets when realized
since the value of existing stocks increases.
The two articles I m comparing in this paper, The Effects of Taxation on the Selling of Corporate
Stock and The realization of Capital Gains by Feldstein, Slemrod, and Yitzhaki (1980) and Measuring
Permanent Responses to Capital Gains Tax Changes in Panel Data by Burman and Randolph (1994),
both primarily focused on the lock in externality, with Feldstein examining externality on tax revenue
as well.

The 66th Oscar For Best Film

Pros And Cons Of Violence In Childrens Literature
Many people have different views on whether or not they are for or against violence in children s
literature. I am for children s literature due to the fact that if one is not educated, how is one expected
to know. In this essay we will look at the pros and cons of including violence in children s literature.
Fairy tales originate from the past and majority of the stories include some sort of gory detail and
violence. They originated from oral traditions by adults telling stories to other adults, as these fairy
tales were not meant to before the children. Each tale was set for that specific era or time based on the
reality which was often a morbid one. Therefore we view old literature as gory and violent. Each
generation had a different reality or gore to it.
Many parents seek to have children s literature which contains violence removed or banned from all
access to young children. They complain that the subject matter of these books is too much for
children to handle. The parents do this as they believe it to be a form of protection from the dangerous
world we live in. they know all too well that what is expressed in the books is happening in reality.by
reading these violent books it evokes a sense of fear or the need to harm oneself or others. Therefore
stopping the chance of them reading these books is shielding them from the hurt and pain which it is
associated with. Literature and media are the main reasons for violence in the ... Show more content

Herbert Hoover s Contributions
Herbert Hoover was orphaned at the tender age of nine after his father suffered a heart attack while
battling pneumonia shortly after his mother fell ill with a combination of pneumonia and typhoid fever
and passed away. The death of both parents left Herbert and his siblings to live the rest of their
childhoods with distant relatives. Hoover s tragic childhood did not in any shape or form foreshadow
his future.
For the majority of Hoover s life, he was tossed around from relative to relative for a few years until
he landed in the care of his Uncle Dr. John Minthorn, who was a resident of Oregon. Hoover was able
to get a high school education and major in geology at Stanford University in California. While
attending college at Stanford University, he met his wife; Lou Henry who majored in geology as well.
Herbert and Lou married in 1899. After graduating from college Hoover worked in the gold mines of
Nevada doing very labor intensive work. He pushed ore carts in and out of mines. Later he climbed
the ladder and was an engineer that inspected and evaluated mines available for purchase for potential
buyers. Hoover was able to catch a string of job offers that lead him across the world and ultimately to
start his own consulting business that opened its doors in 1904.
Hoover raised as a Quaker applied many of his beliefs to his work as a mining engineer. Hoover
learned to value the importance of freedom, charity, the power of an individual, and the value of
diligent work. Hoover continued to work as a mining engineer, although he had a strong desire for
public service. Hoover identified himself as a Republican. World War 1 put Herbert Hoover in the
forefront of American politics. When the war broke out in London, the U.S consul contacted Hoover
and asked him to organize an evacuation of over 100,000 Americans trapped in Europe. Hoover and
many of his wealthy friends came together and created the Committee for the Relief of Belgium, after
Germany s brutal invasion of Belgium. Hoover successful pulled this off without any government
help; he was able to gain several millions of dollars to supply Belgians with much needed medicine
and food. Hoover ran the U.S. Food Administration at the request of President

The Heart Of Darkness And Macbeth By William Shakespeare
It can be hidden in the unwritten rules of society or tucked deep into a metaphor for the imperialistic
tendencies of Europeans hidden in the darkness of the Congo. Kurtz in The Heart of Darkness, and
Macbeth in Macbeth, display the traits of evil taking over perfectly. Although different times and
plots, both men share a craving for power, and their superiority complexes ultimately lead to their
demise. Their mental and physical health deteriorate, eventually coming out of their experiences as
irrational, delusional, and sick men. The individuality and strength that comes with each person s
moral compass is stripped away once evil finds its way into a person. The impact evil has on a person
who embraces it is complete and total consumption and control; a transition of the body and mind
along with an eventual lack of moral reasoning and decaying mental health.
From the start Macbeth and Kurtz exhibit selfish ambition which is what makes them susceptible to
evil initially. This similarity connects the characters, the start to their road of destruction and tyranny
starts with two selfish decisions made only to further themselves. Kurtz is drawn to Africa at first to
make a difference, or at least it seems this way. But rather than him going on a mission to civilize (70),
he goes on a mission to make as much money as he can. Not only that but he went from wanted to
help the Africans, only later to say exterminate all the brutes . While doing so he sees more and more

Essay On Knights Vs Samurai
Knights vs Samurai essay
From researching about knights and samurai, I believe that in a battle between a knight and samurai,
the knight would have a greater chance in winning. This is because knights focused more on fighting
techniques and how to improve them, rather than focusing on spiritual beliefs and traditions as well,
which is what the samurai did. The knights also had very strong and good armour which helped a lot
in battles, while the samurai s armour changed a lot but wasn t ever as effective as the knight s armour.
The knight s weapons were also more advanced and better then the samurai weapons.
In my first reason, I believe that a knight would win against a samurai because a knight focused more
on training and fighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My second reason is that the knights had very strong and effective armour, whereas the samurai s
armour was always changing and was never as good as the knight s armour, as samurai depended
more on their fighting skills instead of the armour. The samurai armour was made up of several
sections. The main body is called a do or cuirass, and is made from plates or lamellae (small oblong
shaped pieces of steel linked by strips of leather and covered with layers of lacquer). The helmet has a
crest and a hair pommel. There is also a face mask, which would have been decorated with ugly
features intended to scare the enemy. Extra protection is provided by a coverage of the neck (made of
jointed metal) and shoulder guards (made from small plates laced together, with silk allowing
movement). Thigh and calf guards are made from a combination of chain mail and plates. Underneath
the samurai s armour, the samurai would wear a one piece baggy garment with a special kimono (the
kimono looks a bit like a dressing gown). This did mean that the samurai would be more likely to get
injured, as the armour would only offer very little protection. Samurai armour was designed to help
the Samurai move comfortably and efficiently when fighting, so if a knight stabbed the samurai then
the samurai would get injured and this would affect the samurai while he is fighting (the samurai
would be fighting worse), and possible depending on how bad the wound is, it could kill the

Discipline
Discipline is the most useful quality. It means to act in an orderly manner, to act strictly according to
principle. Discipline involves the ability to obey and follow simple task, orders, or request. Discipline
is something you acquire through years of being taught, from young to old discipline should be a huge
factor of your life. It should be something you live by and use often. Discipline leads to success in
everything you do from school, or sports as a child or teenager to your career as an adult. If you use

When given an article fifteen in the military this is a form of military disciplinary action. Every action
comes with disciplinary consequences whether those consequences are good or bad very much
depends on your ability of discipline. Even though I have not been deployed yet, I know that down
range discipline plays a huge factor on and off the battle field. You need to have the discipline to do
what your leaders have asked of you. Whether it be getting your leave documents or listening to them
when they tell you to get stacked on a door preparing to enter and clear the rooms in the building. Off
the battle field discipline could be used in cleaning your room, doing your dishes, making sure your
bed is made or even just making sure your floor is swept and mopped everyday. This also helps you in
the aspect of being healthy. If you don t do your dishes mold can become a problem which can cause
serious illness. So a disciplined life style is a healthy life style. I think that the most discipline was
instilled in me through basic training but I ve been getting practice with discipline since I was young
kid. As a teenager, when I got in trouble at home I would get spanked or grounded depending on how
severe the mistake was. This is a form of a disciplinary action that almost every parent uses when
raising their children. So even as parents discipline is important. It provides requires your child or

Effects Of British Imperialism
Ghandi used the techniques of passive resistance to achieve political independence of India from
British Rule. Gandhi called his overall method of non violence action Satyagraha which led to major
campaigns in the Independence Movement, as this later led to India s Independence. Gandhi
philosophy was the foundation for India s struggle to gain independence from Great Britain. Gandhi
achieved political independence in India through a non violent political resistance method, Satyagraha
which Gandhi developed through campaigning. The effect of the British Imperialism in India resulted
in the exploitation of Indians and resulted India to become dependent on India. The British perspective

India like other colonial countries was taken on by the British for the better of the people until ready
for independence. However, Gandhi believed that the British would never give them their
independence due to the benefit to the British economy. The British claimed to be making India more
civilised but really they felt that they would never give India back to the Indians. (India and The
British Empire The Changes, 2012) As this quote shows the opinions of a British official in India.
Unless Indians can govern India wisely and well, in accordance with modern national ideas, they have
no more right to India than Hottentots have to the Cape, or the black fellows to Australia. In my
opinion, Hindus would never govern, Hindustan a half, a quarter, nay one tenth as well as Englishmen
(India and The British Empire The Changes, 2012). British took control over India since they had raw
materials that were being imported to Britain such as silk and spices, British trade had made a lot of
money for themselves and the government. British would exert whatever means necessary to
demonstrate that through economic superiority and power, India was at its mercy (Brown, 2016). The

A Romanticized View Of Their Ancestors
In southern fiction there are many characters to be found that possess heroic, or idealized, views of
their ancestors. These same characters are often times burdened by, or feel responsible for, the legacy
left behind by their families. The ancestor s beliefs are like ghost constantly haunting characters in
southern literature. Fennell aptly quotes Faulkner in her article writing:
No man is himself, he is the sum of his past. There is no such things really as was because the past is.
It is part of every man, every woman, and every moment. All of his or her ancestry, background, is all
a part of himself and herself at any moment. And so a man, a character in a story at any moment of
action is not just himself as he is then, he is all that made him. (Fennell 37)
It is seemingly impossible to separate the past from the present among characters in southern
literature. In this paper I will examine three characters and their romanticized view of their ancestors,
as well as their burden. I will be considering Gail Hightower and Joanna Burden in William Faulkner s
Light in August, and Cheyenne Cotterell in Tiya Miles The Cherokee Rose: A Novel of Gardens
Ghosts. All three of these characters idealize their ancestors while simultaneously feeling burdened as
a result of it.
In Faulkner s Light in August Gail Hightower, an outcast reverend, is heavily burdened by his father
and grandfather. He lives within the past and seems to have no care for the present or future.

Gary Soto was born in Fresno, California, in April, 1952, to working class Mexican American parents.
At a young age, he worked in the fields of the San Joaquin Valley. He was not academically motivated
as a child, but became interested in poetry during his high school years. Soto uses his cultural
experiences lead him to write about his character how he does and throughout all of his short stories,
books, and poems he adds in Spanish words, to show us the kind of environment he grew up in as a
Spanish American. Reflecting on the obstacles he had to overcome such as racial discrimination and
the ethnic boundaries, to get where he is today.
Gary grew up in a poor Catholic household. His father and grandfather had blue collar jobs and his
mother peeled potatoes. Because of the family s poverty, exacerbated by the father s early death in a
work related accident, Soto was forced to earn money as an agricultural laborer in the San Joaquin
Valley and at a tire retread factory in Fresno. Although he never mentions it in his poems, Soto does
have an impressive academic background: He was graduated magna cum laude from California State
University at Fresno (1974), received a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the
University of California at Irvine (1976), and has taught at the University of California at Berkeley in

In two different speeches by two different Native American chiefs, Chief Seattle and Red Cloud, a
similar topic in that of the removal of Indians by the U.S. government, was addressed. However, the
speeches by the two chiefs were very different, in terms of tone, figurative language, and the clarity of
their message. In, On the Red Man s Trail, Chief Seattle used much figurative language, especially

disfigure their faces with black paint, their hearts also are disfigured and turn black..., (paragraph 6)

Some grim Fate of our race is on the Red Man s trail, and wherever he goes he will still hear the sure
approaching footsteps of his fell destroyer and prepare to stolidly meet his doom, as does the wounded
doe that hears the approaching footsteps of the hunter. (paragraph 22) Meanwhile, in his speech after

The Maze Runner Man Vs Society Research Paper
Man vs. Society Essay Society is neither good nor evil, it is both. And an individual has to separate
themselves from their society to commit an act of good or bad. Once they have separated themselves,
they can influence society. One loses a sense of individuality while within the bounds of cultural
normalities and societal limits. A person finds themselves controlled and restricted from doing
anything other than what society allows for, which is part of the reason society is both wicked and
good. As more and more people are part of a group, the overall morality either goes down or up. This
happens because instead of an individual s goals being the main ambition of the group (which is often
a righteous and unselfish ambition), it s focused on the group s general goals. In a group, people can

The Ethical and Theological Implications of Human Cloning

Advances in science and technology have often caused revolutionary changes in the way society
views the world. When computers were first invented, they were used to calculate ballistics tables;
today they perform a myriad of functions unimagined at their conception. Space travel changed the
way mankind viewed itself in terms of a larger context, the universe. In 1978, the first test tube baby
was born in England making it apparent for the first time that babies could be conceived outside a
mother s womb.
Each of these events caused much commotion, and each advance has presented society with new

In this way, cloning has changed the potentials for reproduction; males could potentially not be
required in the creation of children. It is important to note, however, that cloning of a human has yet to
be accomplished. While it would be naive to say that it will never be done, so far this problem of
biotechnology has been left undone.
The Process of Cloning
Before any discussion about cloning can be started, it is necessary to explain, albeit in a simplified
version, the scientific process that cloning entails.* Every cell in any given organism contains exactly
the same genetic material or DNA. Each human DNA is composed of two pairs of twenty three
chromosomes. In the process of natural reproduction, when an egg and sperm are joined, they fuse to
form a single cell called a zygote that has a new genetic makeup the sperm and the egg each
contributing one set of chromosomes. Thus, the genetic material found in an embryo is a combination
of the DNA from the mother and the father.
When this initial new cell is formed, certain proteins give the signal that it is time for the zygote to
divide and produce exact replicas of itself. From the single cell stage, this division occurs in a
doubling manner so that in a matter of hours there are eight cells present. Until this eight cell stage
occurs, cells are all the same. After that point, however, different cells begin to

When the Canal was built towns all along the route from Buffalo to Albany prospered from the
revenue and the attraction the Canal brought with it. Whether the Canal was being used for business

persons. After some time the state was continually asked to expand the Canal from the original route
to include connecting canal routes. However, the same towns along the route from Buffalo to Albany
had already been established along the lines of the original canal. These towns would need to be
relocated in order to obey these new requests. This presented a major problem because the people in
these towns had formed a life around the Canal and many of them made their income based of the
Canal. The inhabitants of the towns changed their mentality from not wanting the Canal to invade on
their lives, to it being an essential part of their lives they depended upon. The Erie Canal provided an
extremely fast source of transportation compared to other ones of that time. A lot of the land that the
Canal went through was uninhabited and therefore people weren t able to move through these areas.

population from generation to generation. It is evolutionary change on its smallest scale
b. Population: a localized group of individuals that belong to the same biological species, capable of

10. What is the relationship between mutation rates and generation span? The mutation rates rise as
the generation spans decrease. In animals and plants, there is only about one mutation in every
100,000 genes per generation.
11. Define the following: Genetic drift: unpredictable fluctuations in allele frequencies, reduces
genetic variation over time through such losses of alleles
Bottleneck effect: when environmental change greatly reduces a population, the ratio of genes is
mixed up. Certain alleles may be over/underrepresented among the survivor. Usually occurs from a
natural disaster.
Founder effect: isolated individuals of a population establish a new population → limited gene pool
Gene flow: genetic additions and/or subtractions from a population resulting from the movement of

12. Why would we discuss adaptive evolution and what role does natural selection play? Adaptive
evolution is what allows organisms to live in changing environments. Adaptations are the result of
natural selection. Natural selection allows organisms to adapt to changing environments so they can

The Leadership Skills Of The Workplace
Innovation in the workplace is a competitive force that give businesses like Apple and Samsung a
competitive advantage over other competitors. Innovation is not a new concept for businesses in the
workplace, it has been around for a long time. However, businesses are focusing on innovation
because they understand the key benefits of innovation. Innovation is supported in organizations
through different leadership practices. Discover skills are important in the business and help drive
innovation for organizations. Discovery skills have both strengths and weaknesses and can help or
hurt a leader s ability to support innovation in the workplace.
It would be difficult to choose just two leadership practice that support innovation in organizations.
Leslie (2009) stated that the most needed leadership skills needed now and later in the future were ;
strategic planning, leading employees, inspiring commitment, managing change, being a quick learner,
being resourceful and doing whatever it takes. However, the five leadership skills that are the most
important to support innovation are leading people, strategic planning, inspiring commitment,
managing change and employee development. Leading people is a fundamental leadership skill that is
very powerful, just like the quote says, Set the example for others . If a leader can set an example for
being innovator, the leader can also lead their direct reports to also drive innovation in their company.
Leaders can both motivate and

Vampires Never Die, By Guillermo Del Toro And Chuck Hogan
In the text Vampires Never Die, by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, the authors main purpose is
to tell the origin of vampires and how the perception of vampires has changed throughout history.
Although the myth of an undead monster was created before the word vampire ever was, this text
begins with a story told by John William Polidori that created the two main branches of vampire
fiction known today. These branches include the vampire as a romantic hero and the vampire as an
undead monster. Moreover, Polidori s creation was widely accepted as being based upon Lord Byron,
a superstar in the era of the 1800s. This new twist to an old idea was thought of by Polidori because he
was a doctor and friend to Lord Byron. Nonetheless, Polidori resented Lord Byron s charm, physique,
and brilliance thus creating the alter egos. However, this text also suggest vampires may have
originated from the repressed memories humans had as primates. Therefore, out of necessity, people
may have been cannibalistic. In addition, this text suggest that vampires do not wish to destroy human
lives but rather live for eternity. Furthermore, vampire characters are often used today in a variety of
media ranging anywhere from cereal boxes to romantic fiction. Additionally, Polidori s Dracula
vampire movie was a success due to the featuring of new technology at the time including telegraphs,
typing machines, and blood transfusions. Today, the world is exposed to wireless technology and is

Hinduism And Taoism
1. Compare and contrast various views of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism.
Hinduism, one of the oldest religions refers to the collection of faiths and originated in India.
Hinduism was brought to India by nomadic people thousands of years ago and is a polytheistic system
with various gods and goddesses as well as lesser deities. Hinduism is related to Buddhism because
many early ideas found in Hinduism influenced the Buddhist teachings. Founded in the fifth century
by Gautama Siddhartha Buddha, Buddhism took on numerous forms as a religion all over Asia and is
known as a philosophical religious system. Buddhists make offerings to various buddhas and do not
always worship them as god. Buddhism tries to help individuals overcome the ... Show more content

Principles categorized under yin are femaleness, the moon, completion, cold, darkness, material

explained by yin and yang.
3. Articulate how principles of Taoism serve as the foundation of the art of Feng Shui.
Feng Shui is an art of divination and a method of influencing our destiny. The principles of Taoism
serve as the foundation of the art of Feng Shui. Taoism is run by a single principle, the Tao, however,
the Tao is divided into two opposite principles, the ying and yang. Based on this knowledge, Feng
Shui relies on the ability to understand the Tao and find the balance of ying and yang. Taoism believes
that yin, yang and the five agents, wood, fire, metal, water and earth, explain all events within the
universe. Thus, the art of Fend Shui was developed based on the values of Taoism.
4. Explain the idea of analytic philosophy in contrast with other schools of philosophy.
Analytic philosophy was created as a distinct school of philosophical. In contrast, other schools of

Comparing Kierkegaard s The Myth Of Sisyphus
In contrast to Kierkegaard s work, Albert Camus The Myth of Sisyphus did not use any metaphysical
connections to answer existential questions. In contrast to the leap of faith, Camus believed we must
embrace the absurd by living in it. According to Camus, there is no existential meaning to life and
therefore we must create our own meaning. We must extract meaning from arts and explore the
infinite possibilities of our creative minds. It was previously a question of finding out whether or not
life had to have a meaning to be lived. It now becomes clear, on the contrary, that it will be lived all
the better if it has no meaning 53 In embracing the absurd, we receive a unique opportunity of seizing
and embracing awareness.
It caught my attention me when Camus mentioned becoming a slave of our liberty. He prefaced how

I struggled to understand Kierkegaard because I myself don t believe in God so understanding the leap
and the concept of suspension in front of God was really hard to get past. Despite not connecting to
Kierkegaard s perspective, it makes sense. It makes sense that if we are finite beings we must reach
for faith because that is the only infinite form that can bridge our souls. However, reading Campus
was refreshing. Camus was a dose of positivity that made me think of shifting my attitude and mindset
towards life. Reflecting back, I do feel like my understanding of existentialism has broaden not only
my academic knowledge, but has shaken and shifted my beliefs as a person. Despite not agreeing with
some with some existential writers, it was not about agreeing or disagreeing with these views as it was
about understanding the different perspectives on life from an existential

Dr. Lamp s Case For Tenure And Promotion
On September 21, 2015 the Budget and Personnel Committee for the Department of English met to
review Assistant Professor Kathleen Lamp s case for promotion to Associate Professor with tenure.
The Committee voted 6 to 0 in favor of recommending Professor Lamp for tenure and promotion.
Dr. Lamp is a scholar of rhetorical theory, practice, and education and joined the English department
in fall semester 2010. Her published scholarship since arriving at ASU includes one book, The
Rhetoric of Augustan Rome (2013, University of South Carolina Press), two refereed articles in major
peer reviewed journals, and two book reviews. She also has one 3,000 word contribution in a refereed
conference proceeding, which has been submitted for publication ... Show more content on

Lamp characterizes her scholarship as challenging the narrow definitions of rhetoric in the early
Roman Empire as well as narratives of its retreat from political life after the Roman republic. She
describes her book as transdisciplinary in nature, combining research from rhetorical theory, visual
studies, art history, archaeology, and classics to explore the impact of non traditional rhetorical media
on practices of citizenship during the reign of Augustus. Lamp s other publications are closely aligned
with the book s theme and serve to reach scholars of history, the classics and art history. She presents
evidence of a clear plan moving forward as well as ongoing progress toward her next
book project, which is a study of public memory and ideal citizenship that examines (neo)classical
influences from ancient Rome on U.S. culture through the construction of monuments and memorials.
Her dossier speaks unequivocally to her impressive scholarship and growing positive reputation in the
field of classical rhetoric.
It is clear from all seven external letters that Dr. Lamp is engaging important issues in her field, both
thematically and methodologically. Paraphrasing, C6/L2 writes that Lamp is producing important,
significant scholarship that challenges and persuasively revises long established views of some of the
discipline s most basic assumptions regarding the history of rhetoric and the definition of rhetoric
itself. The cornerstone of Dr.

Relationship Between Lactate Threshold, OBLA, VO2 Max And 5k Running Performance
Abstract
Research into the relationship between physiological variables and running performance has been
variable. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between 5k running performance and a
number of physiological variables in a group of 11 trained club runners (Age 21.451.63yrs, Height
175.092.77cm, Weight 67.865.12kg). The athletes underwent a laboratory treadmill test to determine
their maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 max) and running velocities at lactate threshold (v Tlac) and
blood lactate concentration of 4mM (v OBLA). Running performance was determined by a 5k time
trial on an athletics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main findings concluded that lactate variables were the best single predictors of v 3km.
Further research and development of knowledge concerning the dominant physiological contributors
that underlie short distance running performance will enable greater specificity in training methods,
allowing for improved competitive performance. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the
relationships between Lactate Threshold, OBLA, VO2 Max and 5km Running Performance.
Experimental Hypothesis
It is to be hypothesised that participants reaching higher velocities upon reaching lactate threshold will
display superior 5k running performance and that there will be a significant relationship between the
two variables.
It is to be hypothesised that participants reaching higher velocities upon reaching OBLA will display
superior 5k running performance and that there will be a significant relationship between the two
variables.
It is to be hypothesised that participants with a greater Vo2 Max (oxygen capacity) will display
superior 5k running performance and that there will be a moderate relationship between the two
variables.
Null Hypothesis
It is to be hypothesised that there will be no significant relationship between velocity at lactate
threshold and 5k running performance.

Exes Romoff Analysis
In the slam poem Exes Jessica Romoff and Mila Cuda speak to an issue inherent in many
relationships: how can a committed devotion to love provoke such an enslaving and abusive
relationship? Romoff and Cuda use extended metaphors, juxtaposition, and appealing to extremes to
evoke an apprehensive atmosphere that shifts to an accusatory tone. At the beginning, the speakers use
dialogue to create this apprehensive tone with the pleading conversation between the girl and her
boyfriend. The speaker uses the line, IF YOU BREAK UP WITH ME I LL KILL MYSELF to
exemplify how the boyfriend is appealing to the extremes. He uses the claim that he does not want his
girlfriend to breakup with him, and creates a threat, which forces the girl to stay in

CHAPTER 21
Revolutionary Changes in the Atlantic World,
1750 1850
I.
Prelude to Revolution: The Eighteenth Century Crisis
A. Colonial Wars and Fiscal Crises 1. Rivalry among the European powers intensified in the early
1600s as the Dutch Attacked Spanish and Portuguese possessions in the Americas and in Asia. In the
1600s and 1700s the British then checked Dutch commercial and colonial ambitions and went on to
defeat France in the Seven Years War (1756 1763) and take over French colonial possessions in the
Americas and in India. 2. The unprecedented costs of the wars of the seventeenth and eighteenth
centuries drove European governments to seek new sources of revenue at a ... Show more content on

Rationalist Enlightenment reformers also sparked popular opposition when they sought to replace
popular festivals with rational civic rituals. 3.Spontaneous popular uprisings had revolutionary
potential only when they coincided with conflicts within the elite.
The American Revolution, 1775 1800
A. Frontiers and Taxes 1.After 1763, the British government faced two problems in its North
American colonies: the danger of war with the Amerindians as colonists pushed west across the
Appalachians, and the need to raise more taxes from the colonists in order to pay the increasing costs
of colonial administration and defense. British attempts to impose new taxes or to prevent further
westward settlement provoked protests in the colonies. 2.In the Great Lakes region, British policies
undermined the Amerindian economy and provoked a series of Amerindian raids on the settled areas
of Pennsylvania and Virginia. The Amerindian alliance that carried out these raids was defeated within
a year. Fear of more violence led the British to establish a western limit for settlement in the
Proclamation of 1763 and to slow down settlement of the regions north of the Ohio and east of the
Mississippi in the Quebec Act of 1774. 3.The British government tried to

The Impact Of Gold On The City Of Potosi
The Impact of Silver
The city of Potosi, which is now modern day Bolivia, was once a vast mining town located in the
Andean highlands in the mid 1500 s. This town was the world s leading producer of silver; the
mountain contained enormous amounts of silver that then created many opportunities for many
different people all around the world. The population of Potosi at this time was around 160,000 large
enough that it was comparing to that of cities like London and Amsterdam. This great mountain
supplied many people with all sorts of different jobs. This was a very dangerous and fatal job for the
people and many ended up dead or injured from working in the mines. Once inside, they spend the
whole week in there without emerging, working with tallow candle. They are in great danger inside
there, for one very small stone that falls injures or kills anyone is strikes. If 20 healthy Indians enter on
Monday, half may emerge crippled on Saturday (Strayer614). Mining in this mountain was very risky
and you never knew if you would survive the day or make it out of mine safely. Once the silver was
mined from the mountain in Potosi it was sent off to many different places all around the world.
Mexico, the Philippines, China, and Japan were all places that silver was exported to. But, the main
destination of this silver was to Spain. The Spanish used this silver for many different things. In Spain
itself, which was the initial destination for much of Latin Americas silver, the

Concept Of Autonomy In Nursing
The concept of autonomy is of keen interest to health care providers, patients, and the entire nursing
practice. The present drive of the heath care setting regularly requires a focused response in dealing
with different health issues daily. Thus, autonomy affords a room for healthcare providers including
nurses to use their judgments and to be apt in providing patient centered care. Through a literature
review, autonomy was examined as it relates to nursing, education, and science. A model case was
employed to determine nurses perception of autonomy and understand how they develop and exhibit
autonomy in their practice.
Concept Analysis of Autonomy
Autonomy provides the platform for self directed nurses to act consciously without pressure in the
implementation of their duties. Such roles demand the exercise of autonomy, a term which eludes
succinct definition despite the fact that the preparation of practitioners for these roles relies on a clear
understanding of its nature. This paper undertakes a concept analysis of autonomy, each step
illustrated with examples taken from clinical practice, with the ultimate aim of offering an operational
definition of autonomy. The concept of autonomy in the nursing profession is considered a requisite
for professional standing. Consequently, professional nurse autonomy is the belief in the entirety of
the client when making responsible optional decisions; which reflect advocacy for the client (Kramer
Schmalenberg, 1993).

  • 2. Mafalda Charlie Brown Mafalda: The Argentine Charlie Brown? In 1963, Argentine cartoon strip artist Joaquín Salvador Lavado, better known as Quino, was commissioned to create a Peanuts esk advertisement for a brand of domestic appliances (Kuntz). To familiarize himself with Peanuts, American cartoon by Charles M. Schulz, Quino purchased all of the Peanuts books that he could find in Buenos Aires (Kuntz). After studying Schulz s work Quino adapted the general concept for an Argentine audience and Mafalda was born (Kuntz). • 3. Holden Caulfield The character of Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in The Rye, is one of the most studied and theorized protagonists in literature to this day. He leaves critics mystified and speculating on the depths of the personality and the reasoning behind his actions. The story takes place in New York City following Holden s explosion from a string of prestigious preparatory schools. Three days of meandering around the city gives the reader insight to his history and to the question of why, perhaps, he is less than mentally sound. The better answer to that question is found in the research of the man who created Holden and his world, J.D. Salinger. Salinger spent the year of 1940 loitering around New York City, going to bars, buying records, attending plays and spending time around Park Avenue (Evans 738). Even in the thick of war he seemed unfazed. One soldier said that he remembered Salinger huddled underneath a table writing while the area was under attack. In Salinger s earliest letters, it is said that he sounds entirely like the character of Holden Caulfield; he refers to himself as kid and claims to be knocked out by things, a speech pattern adapted in Catcher in the Rye by Holden (Hoban 329). In these letters he asserted the world was utterly corrupt and believed in the powers of innocence (Coles 415) After becoming famous for his writings, J.D. was strongly opposed to the idea of publicity. It came to a point where he asked his publisher to burn all the fan letters [he] received and to exclude his picture from any of his book jackets (Lutz). • 4. Classroom Behavior In The Classroom In the article A STUDY ON THE MANAGEMENT OF CLASSROOM BEHAVIOUR PROBLEMS AT SECONDARY LEVEL by Dr. G. N. Some of the recommendations were stopping misbehavior immediately, using nonverbal signals, using simple and clear instructions, researching on behavior problems and planning should be done well. These recommendations will further be explained throughout this essay. The first clear recommendation to curbing behavioral problems is stopping misbehavior immediately. The teacher must always try to have an eye and give an ear to the students in the class, therefore, they must always be aware. This is not always easy, so the teacher might slip up and the students uses that moment to do something wrong. When the student uses his/her opportunity to disrupt the class because they do not understand what is been taught, the teacher must immediately stop it from progressing. According to Bandura, Positive (or negative) reinforcement will have little impact if the reinforcement offered externally does not match with an individual s needs. Reinforcement can be positive or negative, but the important factor is that it will usually lead to a change in a person s behavior. This shows that when the teacher stops the student and uses his/her method of punishing the student, the student will be negatively reinforced to not to perform the action again (McLeod, 2016). • 6. A Unified Probabilistic Generative Model To model user check in activities, we propose a unified probabilistic generative model TRM to sim ulate the process of user s decision making for the selection of POIs. Figure 1 shows the graphical representation of TRM where N, K and R denote the number of users, topics and regions, re spectively. We first introduce the notations of our model and list them in Table II. Our input data, i.e., users check in records, are modeled as observed random variables, shown as shaded circles in Figure 1. As a POI has both semantic and geographical attributes, we introduce two latent random variables, topic z and region r, which are responsible for generating them, respectively. Based on the two latent factors, TRM aims to model and infer users ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, each topic z in TRM is not only associated with a word distribution ϕz, but also with a distribu tion over time ψz. This design enables ϕz and ψz to be mutually influenced and enhanced during the topic discovery process, facilitating the clustering of the words of POIs with similar temporal patterns into the same topic with high probability. To integrate the check in time information to the topic discovery process, we employ the widely adopted discretization method in [Gao et al. 2013; Yuan et al. 2013] to split a day into hourly based slots. In the standard topic models [Blei et al. 2003; Wallach et al. 2009], a document (i.e., a bag of words) contains a mixture of topics, represented by a topic distribution, and each word has a hidden topic label. While this is a reasonable assumption for long documents, for short document Wv, it is most likely to be about a single topic. We therefore assign a single topic to the document Wv. Similar idea of assigning a single topic to a twitter post has been used before [Zhao et al. 2011]. User Mobility Modeling. Different from users online behaviors in the virtual world, users check in activities in the physical world are limited by travel distance. • 7. Essay on Voltaire s Candide Everything happens for the best, in this the best of all possible worlds. This is a statement that can be found many times within Voltaire s Candide. Voltaire rejected Lebitizian Optimism, using Candide as a means for satirizing what was wrong with the world, and showing that, in reality, this is not the best of all possible worlds. The philosophy of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, which Voltaire called optimism, is one of the main themes of Candide. The two main points of Leibnitzian philosophy are that God is beneficent, and that in creating the world, He created the best possible one. Leibnitz did not argue that the world was perfect or that evil was non existent, but thanks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Voltaire does most of his satirizing through the character of Dr. Pangloss, an unconditional follower of Leibnitz s philosophy and Candide s mentor. Pangloss ramblings are not personal attacks on Leibnitz, but in some way represent the thoughts of a typical optimist. He is a very hopeful character in the story because he refuses to accept bad. When Candide encounters Pangloss after a long period of time, Pangloss explains how he was almost hanged, then dissected, then beaten. Candide asks the philosopher if he still believes that everything is for the best, and Pangloss replies that he still held his original views. Voltaire frequently exaggerates his point on optimism; there is nobody in reality who is positive about everything all the time, especially after so many horrible experiences. One could say that Pangloss is irrational and idiotic, and Voltaire tries to depict how inexplicable his beliefs are which do not measure up to reality. Another example of how Voltaire ridicules Pangloss optimistic philosophy is the mention of the Lisbon earthquake and fire. Even though the disastrous earthquake took over 30,000 lives, Pangloss still upheld his philosophical optimism by stating, quot; For all that is for the best...It is impossible that things should not be other than they are; for everything is right. Community gardens can be seen in many cities, with the community coming together to grow produce and relationships along the way. However, it is becoming a growing trend to start this idea at a younger scale. Many schools across North America have started implementing a garden into their after school or extracurricular programs. By introducing gardening to children at a young age allows for them to take in many of the benefits that come from gardening, and encouraging new ways of engagement. Gardening provides many hands on activities for children, including designing, planting, and harvesting the food (Yost, 2009). Many studies have shown that children who take care of a garden, or live near one, are more likely to show an interest in gardening as they grow up and develop a strong relationship with gardens and trees (Lohr, 2005). In California, school gardens have become very popular and are continuously promoting them through the State s Education Department. An example of one of the schools in the state is Le Conte Elementary School, which not only has flowers and vegetables, but also livestock, like goats and chickens. • 13. Analysis Of In Bruges And The Crying Game In Martin McDonagh s In Bruges and Neil Jordan s The Crying Game, the concept of guilt and flight are explored. The purpose of this essay is to explore these concepts and the life choices each of the main characters make that ultimately lead to moral dilemmas. This essay will also explore supplementary themes such as conflict, redemption and forgiveness. In Bruges follows two Irish hitmen, Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken Daley (Brendan Gleeson). After a completely botched job they performed in London, they are ordered by their boss, Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes) to hide out in Bruges and wait for further instructions. Although Ken is fascinated by the city s architecture and history, Ray has nothing but disdain for it and wishes to return to London. Could this be his punishment for a job gone awry? MC Throughout the film In Bruges, we follow Ray and his emotional journey of guilt and conflict. He chooses the career of a professional hitman and as a result, there should be no emotional attachments associated in that decision. It s simply business. Or is it? His profession eventually leads him to an unforeseen and unfortunate incident. But is it realistic for Ray to feel remorse? After all, it was his choice to become a hitman to begin with. While in London, Ray was ordered to kill a priest. For Ray, this never seemed to be an issue and he never really questions the reason why. He assumes if he was ordered to kill a priest, he must have done something depraved. As a result of carrying out his orders, he accidentally kills a young boy. MC It is evident that Ray is overwhelmed by his actions and all of this plays out in the film when he flees to Bruges. As the story progresses, we discover that Ray is more than just a cold hearted hitman. He is a man who is suffering. This is displayed throughout the film as he exhibits some strange and at times, irrational behavior. He doesn t attempt to justify his actions, instead he plunges into a state of depression and conflict. He s dead because of me. And I m trying to... been trying to get me head around it, but I can t. • 16. Histone Modification And Its Relation On Schizophrenia Via... Histone Modification and its relation to Schizophrenia via the BDNF Gene Histone modifications have a very crucial role when it comes to silencing genes through chromatin remodeling. Changes in histone modifications can highly disrupt neuronal functions, along with inhibitions to the gene, BDNF (Brain derived neurotrophic factor), which is crucial for cognition, learning, memory formation, and vulnerability to social life and experiences. Mutations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to Schizophrenia. Increased inhibition of this gene has a positive correlation with methylated CpG sites. Currently, anti depressants keep receptors active. I will try to develop a method that would perhaps uninhibit the down regulation of BDNF. Studies on abnormal gene expression in postmortem brain have revealed that histone methylation may be a viable avenue for early detection for some cases of schizophrenia. Histone acetylation and H3 methylation appear to pave the way for CpG methylation. Recent findings point to a possible mechanistic link with H3 and H4 methylation. Evidence suggests that the DNA methylation machinery teams up with histone acetylation and H3 methylation to generate a self propagating cycle that promotes long term transcriptional repression. Thanks to these discoveries, we might have begun to resolve the long standing mystery of how CpG methylation patterns are established. I hypothesize that it is possible to prevent hypermethylation and hyperacetylation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ones with a code of conduct, and ones that just do as they please. It is thought that all thieves and bandits are considered purely evil, some villains like Lucky Ned Pepper; a character in the book True Grit, and Leonard Snart from the TV show, The Flash, have specific rules they go by that could suggest otherwise. To begin, Leonard Snart, being the most aggressive and elusive, only works with villains that follow a specific criterion. If they are found guilty of not obeying these rules, they will either be found frozen or with a hole in their head. He demonstrates this code of conduct by enforcing one of these statements to his former lackey: You know the rules. We don t shoot guards or cops unless it s the only option (Berlanti, 4). Though Snart is the most wanted criminal in Central City, he does have standards that keep him and those he works with, in line when doing a job. Refugees are defined as people who have to leave their homes in order to survive and be safe. Natural disasters and the folly of man cause masses of people to flee their native countries into neighboring territories to wait until it is safe to go back home or to relocate for good. A refugee refers to a person or people who, outside their country of origin, are unable to save themselves from their country or are unable to return there for fear of persecution (Jastram, 2001). What makes a refugee a refugee? Who deserves refugee status? A common misconception is that refugees and asylum seekers are the same things. The right to seek asylum was granted to people by the 1951 Geneva Convention. The 1967 Protocol expanded the notion of refugee displacement from just Europe to the rest of the world following World War II (Wettergren, 2014. 566). The terms are very different. An Asylum Seeker is defined as a person who has left their country and has applied for recognition as a refugee in another country but is still waiting for the decision on their application (Refugee 2011). When people are forced to leave their own countries and immigrant to another one, they are considered asylum seekers until their requests for refugee status has been accepted. When we only consider the static analysis, we have a negative externality that the tax revenue decreases obviously since the same amount of realization is being taxed at a lower rate. When we consider other offsetting factors, positive externalities come in to play important roles. The first positive externality is due to the unlocking effect that increases the amount of realization on capital gain, which therefore increases the tax revenue. I am for children s literature due to the fact that if one is not educated, how is one expected to know. In this essay we will look at the pros and cons of including violence in children s literature. Fairy tales originate from the past and majority of the stories include some sort of gory detail and violence. They originated from oral traditions by adults telling stories to other adults, as these fairy tales were not meant to before the children. Each tale was set for that specific era or time based on the reality which was often a morbid one. Therefore we view old literature as gory and violent. Each generation had a different reality or gore to it. Many parents seek to have children s literature which contains violence removed or banned from all access to young children. They complain that the subject matter of these books is too much for children to handle. Herbert Hoover s Contributions Herbert Hoover was orphaned at the tender age of nine after his father suffered a heart attack while battling pneumonia shortly after his mother fell ill with a combination of pneumonia and typhoid fever and passed away. The death of both parents left Herbert and his siblings to live the rest of their childhoods with distant relatives. Hoover s tragic childhood did not in any shape or form foreshadow his future. For the majority of Hoover s life, he was tossed around from relative to relative for a few years until he landed in the care of his Uncle Dr. John Minthorn, who was a resident of Oregon. Hoover was able to get a high school education and major in geology at Stanford University in California. While attending college at Stanford University, he met his wife; Lou Henry who majored in geology as well. Herbert and Lou married in 1899. After graduating from college Hoover worked in the gold mines of Nevada doing very labor intensive work. He pushed ore carts in and out of mines. Later he climbed the ladder and was an engineer that inspected and evaluated mines available for purchase for potential buyers. Hoover was able to catch a string of job offers that lead him across the world and ultimately to start his own consulting business that opened its doors in 1904. Hoover raised as a Quaker applied many of his beliefs to his work as a mining engineer. Hoover learned to value the importance of freedom, charity, the power of an individual, and the value of diligent work. Hoover continued to work as a mining engineer, although he had a strong desire for public service. Hoover identified himself as a Republican. World War 1 put Herbert Hoover in the forefront of American politics. When the war broke out in London, the U.S consul contacted Hoover and asked him to organize an evacuation of over 100,000 Americans trapped in Europe. • 23. The Heart Of Darkness And Macbeth By William Shakespeare It can be hidden in the unwritten rules of society or tucked deep into a metaphor for the imperialistic tendencies of Europeans hidden in the darkness of the Congo. Kurtz in The Heart of Darkness, and Macbeth in Macbeth, display the traits of evil taking over perfectly. Although different times and plots, both men share a craving for power, and their superiority complexes ultimately lead to their demise. Their mental and physical health deteriorate, eventually coming out of their experiences as irrational, delusional, and sick men. The individuality and strength that comes with each person s moral compass is stripped away once evil finds its way into a person. The impact evil has on a person who embraces it is complete and total consumption and control; a transition of the body and mind along with an eventual lack of moral reasoning and decaying mental health. From the start Macbeth and Kurtz exhibit selfish ambition which is what makes them susceptible to evil initially. This similarity connects the characters, the start to their road of destruction and tyranny starts with two selfish decisions made only to further themselves. Kurtz is drawn to Africa at first to make a difference, or at least it seems this way. But rather than him going on a mission to civilize (70), he goes on a mission to make as much money as he can. Not only that but he went from wanted to help the Africans, only later to say exterminate all the brutes . While doing so he sees more and more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Essay On Knights Vs Samurai Knights vs Samurai essay From researching about knights and samurai, I believe that in a battle between a knight and samurai, the knight would have a greater chance in winning. This is because knights focused more on fighting techniques and how to improve them, rather than focusing on spiritual beliefs and traditions as well, which is what the samurai did. The knights also had very strong and good armour which helped a lot in battles, while the samurai s armour changed a lot but wasn t ever as effective as the knight s armour. The knight s weapons were also more advanced and better then the samurai weapons. My second reason is that the knights had very strong and effective armour, whereas the samurai s armour was always changing and was never as good as the knight s armour, as samurai depended more on their fighting skills instead of the armour. The samurai armour was made up of several sections. The main body is called a do or cuirass, and is made from plates or lamellae (small oblong shaped pieces of steel linked by strips of leather and covered with layers of lacquer). The helmet has a crest and a hair pommel. There is also a face mask, which would have been decorated with ugly features intended to scare the enemy. Extra protection is provided by a coverage of the neck (made of jointed metal) and shoulder guards (made from small plates laced together, with silk allowing movement). Thigh and calf guards are made from a combination of chain mail and plates. Underneath the samurai s armour, the samurai would wear a one piece baggy garment with a special kimono (the kimono looks a bit like a dressing gown). This did mean that the samurai would be more likely to get injured, as the armour would only offer very little protection. Samurai armour was designed to help the Samurai move comfortably and efficiently when fighting, so if a knight stabbed the samurai then the samurai would get injured and this would affect the samurai while he is fighting (the samurai would be fighting worse), and possible depending on how bad the wound is, it could kill the ... Whether it be getting your leave documents or listening to them when they tell you to get stacked on a door preparing to enter and clear the rooms in the building. Off the battle field discipline could be used in cleaning your room, doing your dishes, making sure your bed is made or even just making sure your floor is swept and mopped everyday. This also helps you in the aspect of being healthy. If you don t do your dishes mold can become a problem which can cause serious illness. So a disciplined life style is a healthy life style. These same characters are often times burdened by, or feel responsible for, the legacy left behind by their families. The ancestor s beliefs are like ghost constantly haunting characters in southern literature. Fennell aptly quotes Faulkner in her article writing: No man is himself, he is the sum of his past. There is no such things really as was because the past is. It is part of every man, every woman, and every moment. All of his or her ancestry, background, is all a part of himself and herself at any moment. And so a man, a character in a story at any moment of action is not just himself as he is then, he is all that made him. (Fennell 37) It is seemingly impossible to separate the past from the present among characters in southern literature. In this paper I will examine three characters and their romanticized view of their ancestors, as well as their burden. I will be considering Gail Hightower and Joanna Burden in William Faulkner s Light in August, and Cheyenne Cotterell in Tiya Miles The Cherokee Rose: A Novel of Gardens Ghosts. All three of these characters idealize their ancestors while simultaneously feeling burdened as a result of it. And an individual has to separate themselves from their society to commit an act of good or bad. Once they have separated themselves, they can influence society. One loses a sense of individuality while within the bounds of cultural normalities and societal limits. A person finds themselves controlled and restricted from doing anything other than what society allows for, which is part of the reason society is both wicked and good. As more and more people are part of a group, the overall morality either goes down or up. While it would be naive to say that it will never be done, so far this problem of biotechnology has been left undone. The Process of Cloning Before any discussion about cloning can be started, it is necessary to explain, albeit in a simplified version, the scientific process that cloning entails.* Every cell in any given organism contains exactly the same genetic material or DNA. Each human DNA is composed of two pairs of twenty three chromosomes. In the process of natural reproduction, when an egg and sperm are joined, they fuse to form a single cell called a zygote that has a new genetic makeup the sperm and the egg each contributing one set of chromosomes. Thus, the genetic material found in an embryo is a combination of the DNA from the mother and the father. When this initial new cell is formed, certain proteins give the signal that it is time for the zygote to divide and produce exact replicas of itself. From the single cell stage, this division occurs in a doubling manner so that in a matter of hours there are eight cells present. Until this eight cell stage occurs, cells are all the same. After that point, however, different cells begin to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the myth of an undead monster was created before the word vampire ever was, this text begins with a story told by John William Polidori that created the two main branches of vampire fiction known today. These branches include the vampire as a romantic hero and the vampire as an undead monster. Moreover, Polidori s creation was widely accepted as being based upon Lord Byron, a superstar in the era of the 1800s. This new twist to an old idea was thought of by Polidori because he was a doctor and friend to Lord Byron. Nonetheless, Polidori resented Lord Byron s charm, physique, and brilliance thus creating the alter egos. Thus, the art of Fend Shui was developed based on the values of Taoism. 4. Explain the idea of analytic philosophy in contrast with other schools of philosophy. Analytic philosophy was created as a distinct school of philosophical. In contrast, other schools of philosophy focus mainly on detailed analysis and examination of philosophical aspects in society. Although the difference between analytic philosophy and other schools of philosophy is unclear, L. Jonathon Cohen argues in his book, the Dialogue of reason, that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Comparing Kierkegaard s The Myth Of Sisyphus In contrast to Kierkegaard s work, Albert Camus The Myth of Sisyphus did not use any metaphysical connections to answer existential questions. In contrast to the leap of faith, Camus believed we must embrace the absurd by living in it. According to Camus, there is no existential meaning to life and therefore we must create our own meaning. We must extract meaning from arts and explore the infinite possibilities of our creative minds. It was previously a question of finding out whether or not life had to have a meaning to be lived. It now becomes clear, on the contrary, that it will be lived all the better if it has no meaning 53 In embracing the absurd, we receive a unique opportunity of seizing and embracing awareness. It caught my attention me when Camus mentioned becoming a slave of our liberty. He prefaced how even though we believe we are living a life of liberty and choices; ... I struggled to understand Kierkegaard because I myself don t believe in God so understanding the leap and the concept of suspension in front of God was really hard to get past. Despite not connecting to Kierkegaard s perspective, it makes sense. It makes sense that if we are finite beings we must reach for faith because that is the only infinite form that can bridge our souls. However, reading Campus was refreshing. Camus was a dose of positivity that made me think of shifting my attitude and mindset towards life. Reflecting back, I do feel like my understanding of existentialism has broaden not only my academic knowledge, but has shaken and shifted my beliefs as a person. Despite not agreeing with some with some existential writers, it was not about agreeing or disagreeing with these views as it was about understanding the different perspectives on life from an existential ... Dr. Lamp s Case For Tenure And Promotion On September 21, 2015 the Budget and Personnel Committee for the Department of English met to review Assistant Professor Kathleen Lamp s case for promotion to Associate Professor with tenure. The Committee voted 6 to 0 in favor of recommending Professor Lamp for tenure and promotion. Dr. Lamp is a scholar of rhetorical theory, practice, and education and joined the English department in fall semester 2010. Her published scholarship since arriving at ASU includes one book, The Rhetoric of Augustan Rome (2013, University of South Carolina Press), two refereed articles in major peer reviewed journals, and two book reviews. She also has one 3,000 word contribution in a refereed conference proceeding, which has been submitted for publication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lamp characterizes her scholarship as challenging the narrow definitions of rhetoric in the early Roman Empire as well as narratives of its retreat from political life after the Roman republic. She describes her book as transdisciplinary in nature, combining research from rhetorical theory, visual studies, art history, archaeology, and classics to explore the impact of non traditional rhetorical media on practices of citizenship during the reign of Augustus. Lamp s other publications are closely aligned with the book s theme and serve to reach scholars of history, the classics and art history. She presents evidence of a clear plan moving forward as well as ongoing progress toward her next book project, which is a study of public memory and ideal citizenship that examines (neo)classical influences from ancient Rome on U.S. culture through the construction of monuments and memorials. Her dossier speaks unequivocally to her impressive scholarship and growing positive reputation in the field of classical rhetoric. It is clear from all seven external letters that Dr. Lamp is engaging important issues in her field, both thematically and methodologically. Paraphrasing, C6/L2 writes that Lamp is producing important, significant scholarship that challenges and persuasively revises long established views of some of the discipline s most basic assumptions regarding the history of rhetoric and the definition of rhetoric itself. Relationship Between Lactate Threshold, OBLA, VO2 Max And 5k Running Performance Abstract Research into the relationship between physiological variables and running performance has been variable. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between 5k running performance and a number of physiological variables in a group of 11 trained club runners (Age 21.451.63yrs, Height 175.092.77cm, Weight 67.865.12kg). The athletes underwent a laboratory treadmill test to determine their maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 max) and running velocities at lactate threshold (v Tlac) and blood lactate concentration of 4mM (v OBLA). Running performance was determined by a 5k time trial on an athletics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main findings concluded that lactate variables were the best single predictors of v 3km. Further research and development of knowledge concerning the dominant physiological contributors that underlie short distance running performance will enable greater specificity in training methods, allowing for improved competitive performance. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationships between Lactate Threshold, OBLA, VO2 Max and 5km Running Performance. Experimental Hypothesis It is to be hypothesised that participants reaching higher velocities upon reaching lactate threshold will display superior 5k running performance and that there will be a significant relationship between the two variables. It is to be hypothesised that participants reaching higher velocities upon reaching OBLA will display superior 5k running performance and that there will be a significant relationship between the two variables. It is to be hypothesised that participants with a greater Vo2 Max (oxygen capacity) will display superior 5k running performance and that there will be a moderate relationship between the two variables. Null Hypothesis It is to be hypothesised that there will be no significant relationship between velocity at lactate threshold and 5k running performance. It is to be hypothesised that there will be no significant relationship between velocity at OBLA and 5k running performance. It is to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exes Romoff Analysis In the slam poem Exes Jessica Romoff and Mila Cuda speak to an issue inherent in many relationships: how can a committed devotion to love provoke such an enslaving and abusive relationship? Romoff and Cuda use extended metaphors, juxtaposition, and appealing to extremes to evoke an apprehensive atmosphere that shifts to an accusatory tone. At the beginning, the speakers use dialogue to create this apprehensive tone with the pleading conversation between the girl and her boyfriend. The speaker uses the line, IF YOU BREAK UP WITH ME I LL KILL MYSELF to exemplify how the boyfriend is appealing to the extremes. He uses the claim that he does not want his girlfriend to breakup with him, and creates a threat, which forces the girl to stay in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

British attempts to impose new taxes or to prevent further westward settlement provoked protests in the colonies. 2.In the Great Lakes region, British policies undermined the Amerindian economy and provoked a series of Amerindian raids on the settled areas of Pennsylvania and Virginia. The Amerindian alliance that carried out these raids was defeated within a year. • 49. The Impact Of Gold On The City Of Potosi The Impact of Silver The city of Potosi, which is now modern day Bolivia, was once a vast mining town located in the Andean highlands in the mid 1500 s. This town was the world s leading producer of silver; the mountain contained enormous amounts of silver that then created many opportunities for many different people all around the world. The population of Potosi at this time was around 160,000 large enough that it was comparing to that of cities like London and Amsterdam. This great mountain supplied many people with all sorts of different jobs. This was a very dangerous and fatal job for the people and many ended up dead or injured from working in the mines. Once inside, they spend the whole week in there without emerging, working with tallow candle. They are in great danger inside there, for one very small stone that falls injures or kills anyone is strikes. If 20 healthy Indians enter on Monday, half may emerge crippled on Saturday (Strayer614). Mining in this mountain was very risky and you never knew if you would survive the day or make it out of mine safely. Once the silver was mined from the mountain in Potosi it was sent off to many different places all around the world. Mexico, the Philippines, China, and Japan were all places that silver was exported to. But, the main destination of this silver was to Spain. The Spanish used this silver for many different things. • 50. Concept Of Autonomy In Nursing The concept of autonomy is of keen interest to health care providers, patients, and the entire nursing practice. The present drive of the heath care setting regularly requires a focused response in dealing with different health issues daily. Thus, autonomy affords a room for healthcare providers including nurses to use their judgments and to be apt in providing patient centered care. Through a literature review, autonomy was examined as it relates to nursing, education, and science. A model case was employed to determine nurses perception of autonomy and understand how they develop and exhibit autonomy in their practice. Concept Analysis of Autonomy Autonomy provides the platform for self directed nurses to act consciously without pressure in the implementation of their duties. Such roles demand the exercise of autonomy, a term which eludes succinct definition despite the fact that the preparation of practitioners for these roles relies on a clear understanding of its nature. This paper undertakes a concept analysis of autonomy, each step illustrated with examples taken from clinical practice, with the ultimate aim of offering an operational definition of autonomy. The concept of autonomy in the nursing profession is considered a requisite for professional standing. Consequently, professional nurse autonomy is the belief in the entirety of the client when making responsible optional decisions; which reflect advocacy for the client (Kramer Schmalenberg, 1993). ...
