THE MEDICAL MODEL OF INCLUSION
Diagnosis of special educational needs (SENs) can
be useful but clinical professionals must make the
diagnosis –not teachers. An over focus on medical
diagnosis usually identifies individuals as the
problem to be fixed
THE SOCIAL MODEL OF INCLUSION
 This works on solutions for achievement for all
learners.
 Starting from the positive contributions that all
learners can make and then noticing and
understanding any difficulties that need to be
worked on.
 Research shows that learners enjoy learning in
learning-centered classrooms, and the learning is
long term and deep.
