The independent variable in the experiment was the types and number of jams displayed. And the
dependent variable was the motivation to make the choice of which jam to purchase.
Iyengar and Lapper conducted quantitative research. They did this by observing the customers,
recording how many sampled and how many followed through to commitment by purchasing jam.
They also measured those that walked away.
Iyengar s sample was primarily middle aged Caucasians, 62 percent of whom were female. At the
times in which the jams were displayed there were 386 shoppers present. Of those, 260 actually
engaged the display.
The media did in fact stretch the generalizability since the sampled population was not very
diverse. With most of the sample being middle aged Caucasian females, who were likely of similar
socioeconomic status. The study was done at a high end market in California. Part of the reason for
the generalization is attributed to the work of Barry Schwartz, who first introduced the idea of the
paradox of choice. Schwartz s teachings infiltrated the media, in turn promoting the stretching of
this samples generalizability.
The study is experimental. They did the experiment in a natural environment, attempting to make
it as ordinary as possible so they did it at a market in California that regularly has and offers
samples. They were two groups one that offered 6 types of jams and another that offered 24 types
of jams.

While looking at the results, I noticed that the cold temperature solution glowed for the longest
time with an average of 14.5 minutes. The room temperature solution was next with an average
of 13.5 minutes. Finally, the warm temperature glowed for the shortest amount of time with an
average of 9.5 minutes. I noticed that the solubility affected the glow rate. The warm water was
able to quickly dissolve the copper sulfate, Luminol, and Perborate mixture. However, the cold
water took the longest because it was hard for it to dissolve. In order to keep the dissolving
process going, every so often, I mixed it. My results indicate that if you want to locate the
presence of blood quickly, you should use a warmer solution. However, if you want a longer
glow, a colder solution may be a better choice. A t test was not used because there were only two
trials. Therefore, it would be hard to compare and call it significant or not significant. My
hypothesis was correct, because I predicted that the colder solution would take the longest. I think

preventative and specialty health care services. The need for safety net providers to improve the
delivery and access to care has led to increased funding through the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act (PPACA) as well the expanded community health centers (CHCs)
(HealthCare.gov, 2010). Following the passage of the PPACA and increased federal support for
the CHCs, the American public health care system witnessed significant changes. Some of these
changes include increased access to healthcare, restructurings of private health coverages and
containing Medicaid and Medicaid (). One of the key provisions of the PPACA was to extend
health care coverage to the uninsured population in the country. Among the most affected are the
safety net providers whose sole objective is to provide healthcare services to the uninsured
Americans. These providers of last resort have played a critical role in ensuring that even the most
