3. •Enter Shikari belong to the genre's Post hardcore, Electronicore,
Alternative rock and Experimental rock. however the song and video The
Last Garrison belong more to the Alternative metal genre. the Alternative
metal genre implements different elements from many other genres such
as heavy metal, hardcore punk and progressive rock.
4. The content of this video is just the band performing the video in one
setting but with different lights and atmosphere. the video stats off really
dark grey and as the band is introduced they fade into shot with the use
of fog.
5. Most of the shots used within this music video are close ups of the bands faces
or the instruments. There are not many static shots most of them are always in
movement. This ties in with the genre of the music because in the genre it is very
energetic and fast paced so having a video that is mainly static shots will go
against the conventions of a metal music video.
6. The lighting for the music video varies because the start of the video its dark
grey and switches between orange and blue. All the different colours are
really harsh colours which convey the genre of the music. The lighting
matches the pace of the video and matches the drum beats changing the
colours with the drums. There are three main lighting plans for this video, the
first one is very grey with fog, the second lighting plan is orange with a strong
backlight, this is to simulate the sun and the intensity of the sun, the last
lighting plan is very blue and raining.
7. The location of the music video is very unclear as there is nothing to indicate
where they are. They seem to be in a warehouse. However they are trying to
simulate the four elements which are wind, fire, earth, water. The location
could mean that they are isolated, playing off the meaning of the song.
having the video convey that they are alone and they only have each other
but the song is saying that they are grateful for being alive.
8. The editing of the video is very fast paced as the song is fast and the editing
seems to be matching the drum beats. The lighting matches the pace of the
video and matches the drum beats changing the colours with the drums. The
editing matches the genre of the song as the metal genre is very upbeat, fast
and energetic. Many of the transitions between shots are cuts there are not
many other transitions as it is a fast paced video and having cuts/jump cuts
would convey the meaning better. They do incorporate slow motion shots in
the video.
9. Many of the effects for the video were done visually there and then. when they
were filming the music video they were using giant fans for the wind, smoke
machines and rain machines. this means that in the editing process many of
the effects were already done making the editing faster and they could
produce the video much quicker.
10. There is little meaning for the music video, as they just recreated
the elements for the video, wind and rain. However the lyrics are a
celebration of the fact that they are all still alive. The song to me
means that, in life there will be many ups and downs and everyone
will go through them its just up to the individual to beat the downs
and look forward to the good times in life, its a celebration that we
are all still alive.
11. The purpose of the music video is simply to sell the song. This music
video is purely a performance video and intended just to show off the
band. One of the main purpose of making a music video is to sell the
song, sell the song for the band. they have star appeal because it is
Enter Shikari within the video.
12. The target audience for Enter Shikari - The last garrison is mainly
teenagers between the ages of 14-19 both male and female. The video
appeals to this age range because the band is in the video and it is all
about star appeal. The band is aimed at teenagers who fit a specific
category in the stereotype universe, meaning ‘emo’ or ‘rockers’.
