Lesser Years
I started audio production at 16 years old, a
           sophomore in high school.

Quite a few of my friends were musicians and
wanted to put their ideas on tape.

Well, since I had a big interest in it.

I was the one they came too.
Pre Grad
By time Graduation had rolled around.

I had already produced my best friends first Metal
            band Failure Of Mankind.

Everyone that had bought their CD was like “This
                sounds brutal.”

                So I continued…

Music. Everything that makes a sound in some way
is a form of music. Since Music Theory is the
notation of classified sound waves. Then everything
that makes noise, has a specified note, in which it
can be put into a composition and music can be
                        made.

            Does that make sense…?

How do I benefit you?
Minus all the knowledge I've acquired from going to
                     school…

Minus the 17 years of musiciansmanship…

And the 7 years of production experience…
Im not gonna say im “innovative”, “dynamic” or the
average punch line words that everyone uses.

                     Im Me.

What is it that I have that makes me special?

                     Nothing!

Im just a person that loves music, has a few years
experience, connections and a few pieces to show
that im not pulling your chain.

Im still learning, and open to it. I want to learn
more, I need to learn more. Have fun while doing it.
And making music isnt a job, not a career either.

Editor's Notes

  • #2 Im 22 years old and I started working on my audio profession when I was 16 years old learning everything that I could find at my library on recording music.
  • #3 This all happened when I was in High School. I thought the title Lesser Years as when I was still a baby in the audio field and when I was still in the planning stages of what I wanted to do after High School
  • #4 Between my Sophomore year and Senior year in High School. I had a few friends that were in a band and they wanted to get out into our local Metal scene. So Charlie came to me and asked if I would help them record a few songs for them. Of course I said yes. The song The Denial was there biggest hit in the Raleigh/Durham North Carolina area. Because of the songs that we worked on, The Denial, JABSRTR and Unholy Confessions Cover they got to play Battle of the Bands at Linchon Theater and a regular at The Brewery.
  • #5 The design that we worked on for the first Tee’s that sold like Crazy.
  • #6 Post Graduation. This section is about what happened after I graduated. I went to a trade school to learn how to Weld as a failsafe trade just incase my dreams fell through and I wasn’t able to successfully accomplish what I wanted to do with my life
  • #7 I have a friend that attended Full Sail University. She knew that I have a real passion for making music and that’s what I wanted to do with my life. She was a Visual Design Major and just recently graduated with her Bachelors Degree. She told me that since I was having at the time a hectic schedule due to family issues and the recent death of my father. I didn't have time nor the recourses to go to a classroom everyday.
  • #8 After about 17 or so technical schools I looked into trying to find one that suited what I wanted to do with what I knew and expand upon what I wanted to do. I took my best friends advice and decided on Full Sail
  • #9 One of the first classes that really gave me problems but after about spending 30 hours a week with my instructor, a few friends that teach Music Theory and Classical Piano/Guitar and assorted strings. I finally got it.
  • #10 This was actually the way my Brother/Manager explained music to me when I started to get heavy into music and was getting frustrated. Then soon to find out, near about the same thing was said in my Digital Recording Principle’s and Digital Audio and Theory classes.
  • #11 The Circle of Fifths. This image is a scanned image out of The Guitar Grimoré: Scales and Modes by Carl Fischer. It shows The Major and Minor Key Signatures. They and used to show what key a song is written in take “I am Hell” by Machine Head its key is C# it starts off as Sonata with the vocals hitting the notes at the start of the Key in different Octaves.
  • #12 Digital Audio Workstations, these are programs that we use in the field to record music, where it’s Guitar, Bass, Violins, Piano, Vocals etc. We use these to edit, record onto the hard drive, play them back and all the stuff in between.
  • #13 I briefly talk about some of the Tools of my trade but this is basically the main essence of my profession. Protools, Logic, Audacity, Komplete,Reaper, FL Studios. Even though I only use Logic, Audacity and Garageband; each for their own unique purpose; I don’t turn my back on anything because who knows I may have to use a program that I know nothing about and then HAVE to use it because that’s what the company wants me to use.
  • #14 This is a screenshot of Logic for a project that im working on. It just shows what the DAW looks like as a basic.
  • #15 This is Garageband. One of my first songs that I recorded with this program I covered Korn’s Did My Time. I just wanted to show another DAW since Im still not familiar with Logic.
  • #16 Audio Science, this is where everything got interesting in my journey through college. In high school I was one of the science nerds, mainly physical sciences. I made it a point to understand sound, as I said before my Brother explained music as just sounds. And they all have a set frequency. This is where I learned it all more in depth
  • #17 TED talk by Melissa Marshall: Talk nerdy to me. I got the idea from her talk. I love it hen people use the actual terms for something instead of some made up something. Most of us know what Wavelength, Compression and Hertz are. But Rarefaction and Phase really isnt. But in the audio field that’s what we speak along with Musical notation. That’s our Language
  • #18 This is just a screen shot of one of my projects as its waveform.
  • #19 Music History. Here we got more into the artist and the genres of music. But through out my whole program ive been learning history and my instructors have made small drops about where we get some terms. Like Hertz, it came from Physicist Heinrich Rudolf Hertz.
  • #20 This slide actually brings my humor. I hit a wall and was like…what do a put on this slide. Theres just so much I could do. So I stared at my posters and CD’s and it hit me like a brick wall. Artist, Genres, Labels. The Big 4 is Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeath and Slayer. The Kings of Thrash Metal. NWOBHM- New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy, Motör Head
  • #21 Some questions that some one might ask that doesn't’t know this information. Theirs in black my response in red
  • #22 The Box. I was raised to not be an average person. To think outside of the box, even though I may have learning disabilities that are a huge hindrance. I still try and go that extra 9 yards and make unreal ideas and make them real.
  • #23 How do I benefit you?Honestly, I cant if you don’t have me. I have some experience, im a musician but theres really nothing special about me.
  • #24 The Box. Im creative and I want to take peoples ideas and make them reality. I try and figure out how to do this with the person and make it live.
  • #25 Self explanitory
  • #26 Being a musician, producer, editor etc. isnt a weekend warrior type deal. In order to be successful, even though now a day it seems easy, you need to breath music. My life music is the most influential substance in my life, I sleep with music on, while I shower, cook, clean, everything. If imnot having tunes on im making some. Its not just a thing you can do right off the bat like say a puzzle and your done, its literally a lifestyle. And it can consume you, for better or worst.
  • #27 This slide contains links to some of my Work that ive done over the past year and a half.
