This document discusses non-odontogenic cysts, which are cysts not related to the odontogenic apparatus. It specifically focuses on salivary cysts including mucous extravasation cysts and mucous retention cysts. Mucous extravasation cysts are caused by traumatic rupture of minor salivary gland ducts, releasing mucous into surrounding tissue. Mucous retention cysts are caused by obstruction of minor salivary gland ducts, leading to accumulation of saliva. Clinically they appear as superficial, blueish masses and histologically contain mucin-filled cavities lined by epithelium. Treatment involves simple excision.
