This document provides an overview of a town's single stream recycling program. It discusses the history of the program including converting to single stream recycling in 2008. Current statistics on population, households, and tonnages are presented. A comparison of contract quotes for dual stream vs. single stream shows that single stream saved $214,000 over 5 years. Common contamination issues with single stream like plastic bags and trash in recycling bins are outlined. Going forward, the town is considering public outreach, enforcement, smaller carts, and potential changes to improve recycling quality.
