1. Movie Essay Example
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Movie Essay Example" can prove to be both challenging and
stimulating. The difficulty arises from the vastness and diversity of the film industry, making it
essential to narrow down the focus to a specific aspect or theme. The multifaceted nature of
movies, ranging from genres and styles to cultural influences and historical contexts, demands
careful consideration and thorough research.
One of the challenges lies in striking a balance between providing a comprehensive overview
and delving into the specifics of the chosen movie or movies. Juggling between analyzing the
cinematography, dissecting the plot, exploring character development, and discussing the broader
implications or societal reflections can be intricate.
Moreover, the subjective nature of film appreciation adds an extra layer of complexity. Different
viewers may interpret the same movie differently, making it crucial to incorporate diverse
perspectives while maintaining a cohesive and persuasive argument.
Researching background information on the chosen movie, understanding its cultural and
historical context, and exploring critical analyses from reputable sources are vital steps in
developing a well-informed essay. This necessitates time and effort to sift through various
materials and form a nuanced understanding of the subject matter.
In addition, crafting an engaging introduction and a compelling conclusion requires finesse. The
introduction should captivate the reader's attention, provide context, and present a clear thesis
statement, while the conclusion should succinctly summarize key points and leave a lasting
impression.
Despite these challenges, the process of writing a movie essay can be intellectually rewarding. It
allows the writer to develop analytical and critical thinking skills, fostering a deeper appreciation
for the art of filmmaking. The challenge lies not only in conveying personal insights but also in
connecting them to broader themes, making the essay relevant and thought-provoking.
In conclusion, tackling a "Movie Essay Example" involves navigating through the intricacies of
film analysis, balancing the subjective nature of interpretation, and conducting thorough research.
While challenging, the process provides an opportunity for personal and intellectual growth. For

2. The Dangers of Fracking Essay
With the age of constant industrial and technological growth has come the necessity
for not only cost effective and efficient methods for industry, but also the need for
obtaining fuel for the machines that make the modern world possible. Oil has
become as precious a commodity as gold, if not more so; its attainments constantly
driving the world s largest businesses and governments across the world into action.
Naturally, a quick fix solution to this problem is constantly sought after by oil
companies wishing to provide oil on a massive scale. One of these drilling methods
is known as induced hydraulic fracturing (also known as fracking).
Fracking is a process in which a drill is inserted into a shale, which is a cracked
surface, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This brings up the first issue against fracking that critics point to, which is the fact
that it often occurs near established towns and cities where many live. This would be
merely an issue of aesthetic unpleasantry occurring near peoples homes (paving the
way for this issue to join so many others under the theme of Not in My Backyard
style public protests) were it not for the fact that the chemicals being pumped into the
ground are not just limited to the veins they create, but in fact may seep into
groundwater, contaminating it. These two issues, water contamination and the
right to private property, are major sticking points when a company wishes to set
up a rig near a human population close enough to be affected by it. In 2006, the
state of Texas ruled in the case of Coastal Oil and Gas Corp. v. Garza Energy Trust
that damage to any property by or through the act of inducing hydraulic fracturing
would not warrant a trespass claim. In 2012, four towns in Pennsylvania attempted
to bar drillers from setting up infrastructure at the companies discretion, with some
to be built near homes and schools. Coastal Oil is being used as a precedent case
now, but here the local courts ruled in favor of the towns, protecting their zoning
rights. Going beyond the fact that oil rigs near homes can create what can certainly
be called an unsafe, or at the very least unsightly,
4. The Glass Menagerie Pressure
The pressures of society in The Glass Menagerie push Laura Wingfield to be a shy
girl who does not have any contact with the outside world. Laura s biggest flaw,
her slight limp, cause her to shut out the world and become a hermit. Amanda, her
mother, pushes her to go to college and find a man whom will take care of her.
However, Laura s insecurities kick in and she just about throws up during her first
speed test in college, which shows just how serious her situation is. Her
personality shines through her glass animals, whom she cares for with great
tenderness. Laura has withdrawn from the real world and gone into a make
believe world which she creates from her set of glass menagerie. Laura is a very
shy, sensitive person who is very fragile. Society in The Glass Menagerie wants
her to go to business college, find a gentlemen caller, and not be so fragile.
However, she has become so shy and vulnerable that she has forgotten almost
completely about the real responsibilities of life. When Laura s high school crush,
Jim O Connor, comes to Laura s house for dinner she escapes her make believe
world. Laura s make believe world is characterized by I haven t heard any arguments

5. The Value Of Taking Responsibility Essay
The Value in Taking Responsibility During the late 1800 s and early 1900 s a
series of laws and campaigns were instated to prevent forest fires. It was believed
that forest fires would greatly damage the timber industry due to the loss of trees the
forests would suffer as a result. The longer these campaigns persisted, the worse the
forest fire breakouts became, and the forests continued to degrade. Many animals
were also displaced and threatened as a result of these intense fires. Eventually
forestry researchers and conservationists started looking at what fires did to the
various ecosystems. They found that fires actually promote the growth of healthier,
stronger trees by burning the weak trees and providing more nutrients for the soil. By
suppressing fires, the forests experienced large amounts of degradation, and many
animals were threatened by the loss of sustainable habitats. Controlled burns every
few years actually benefits all the organisms living in that ecosystem, however, in
some places it s nearly impossible to burn. After so many years of fire suppression
the leaf litter has accumulated to such large amounts that any fire started would burn
to hot and high for the forest to survive. Humaninterests often times have profound
affects on the world around them. There are many instances like the above example
in which peoples own self interests end up hurting and degrading the environment
around them. In the aftermath of events such as this, there are many
6. Factories In The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution has been described as a mixed blessing is a statement in
which many people can agree. The painstaking work, cruel working conditions, and
extremely long hours for all employees shows the struggles people went through for
the advancement of their country. Workers wanted to see technology and their
country progress so they did the work necessary. The end result was something the
world had never seen, so many new technological advancements, and inventions made
so many tasks more efficient, and suddenly work became easier all across the globe.
One of the most prominent new developments in the Industrial Revolutionwas
factories, and factoryworkers. Factories were a result of new farming equipment being
invented. From 1733 1787 five new inventions were made to help modernize the
cotton industry. These new machines were, the Flying Shuttle ... Show more content

The working conditions were dangerous, and unhealthy. Inside the factories is has
poor lighting which made doing the actual work much more difficult. Machines
themselves caused injury as well. The various moving parts of machinery caused
cuts, and the most extreme cases, amputations. Women had it much worse due to
their long hair, which could get stuck in machinery too. Children were often given
the task on cleaning under the machines, many would fall asleep and would
become severely wounded. And because there were no government programs to
help in case of injury, these incidents kept occuring. However laws did pass to
eliminate these unlawful working conditions. The Factory Act of 1833 made it
illegal to hire children under 9 years old, for children between ages 9 to 12 to work
more than 8 hours, and children 13 to 17 to work more than 12 hours. Then the Ten
Hours Act of 1847 which limited the workday to hours for women and kids in
factories. Then the National Child Labor Committee was an activist group organized
to end child

Firefighter
Firefighters are responsible for protecting people s lives and property from the
hazards of fire and emergencies. Firefighters do more than just put out fires, they
respond to different medical calls such as traffic accidents, and just other emergencies
where they are normally the first on the scene. The first permanent firefighting
company in the United states was formed by Benjamin Franklin in philadelphia in
1706 (Cosgrove). From horse drawn steam hand pumped engines to state of the art
computer operated fire apparatus, the fire service is a constantly evolving career
field. Advances in technology and tactics continually evolve to make emergency
operations safer for responders and the people they serve. Now days, ... Show more

If they choose to wait until they are hired, they will be paid a reduced firefighter
salary during the time they are going through the training (Maple). This training is
either obtained from a vocational school, state university or a department s own
academy program. Firefighters need certain types of skills and personality types to
excel at their job. They must have excellent people skills as they must live and work
with many different personality types and they must deal with the public during
extremely stressful events. They must also be very mechanically inclined as the
duties require the use of many different types of specialized tools and equipment.
Working Conditions Salary
Working conditions vary greatly while in the station due to the size of the
department s budget and on emergencies due to the type/nature of the response.
One call you could be headed to a residential home to help a man that had a heart

out a plane that has crashed and caught on fire. There is an almost endless list of
health and safety issues related to the profession due to the broad range of
emergencies that personnel respond to. Directly out of the fire academy the average
beginning wage for firefighters is $45,250 annually (Maple). The maximum salary
you can expect as a lowest level firefighter is $54,538 and the maximum salary you
can expect if you promote through the ranks to fire chief
8. Gender Roles In Star Trek Next Generation Essay
In 1966 a series called quot;Star Trek quot; was created. It s creator, Gene
Roddenberry, did not create the show to be a science fiction series. The series was
much deeper than that. It wasn t just about discovering new planets and civilizations.
It was about controversial issues. Even though the series take place in the 23rd and
24th century the issues struck with the times and related current issues. Through each
series, The Original, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, there has been
progression with the times and the issues. The issues that surround the episodes of
Star Trek include race, religion, sexuality, the depiction of science and genderroles.
The central focus being talked about in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was the captain, Janeway, Kes and Seven of Nine. This series brought
women into leadership roles. The progression of women in Star Trek has been
appropriately timed and has even pushed a little bit past the time. Even though
Uhura basically played the role of a secretary her role still pushed the envelope for
the time because of her race. She was a black actress during or right after the civil
rights movement. She even thought of quitting the role because she felt that she
wasn t used enough for her role in the series. However, after Martin Luther King, Jr.
talked to her and told her how important it would be for her to stay on the show, she
did. Women in Star Trek have progressed from a secretary type, to a doctor and
counselor, to the second in command and eventually the first in command or the
captain. Their progress allows them to be more influential.
Let s talk more specifically about the Next Generation series. The Original series
showed the four starring male roles to provide everything for the crew. This is not
the case in Next Generation. Next Generation is more like a family with a father, a
mother and children. But who were the biggest members of the family? There are
four characters, which give the presence of a family on Next Generation.
First, you have the father. This is actually quite simple. You have Captain Picardwho
plays the father. He is much older than any of the other crew seen

thousand plus killed, many were blameless citizens who wished not to be involved.
The attacks were just fruitless, and it should be clear to Americans about how
hypocritical their government is acting and reacting.
As with the Domino theory US feared about their own own safety and was afraid to

For example US involvement in Vietnam war through out the1950s till 1960s. In that
incidence united states supported France which was more a democratic side and
rejected vietnamese nationalist Ho Chi who was known as a communist supported by
Russia, and aided with the cost of the war. In 1964 the congress authorised Johnson
the president to take necessary actions to prevent aggression against united states in
Vietnam and bombing of Vietnam took place in response to this resolution.
Even though the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution stated they had no political ambitions or
military ,the story seemed more than just providing aid to a week country but rather
was United states committee to prevent communism. Vietnams war can be perceived
for some individuals as a way of America giving assistance to south Vietnam based
on making decision in what they believe is best for the population, however helping
and assisting in a war according to my definition of terrorism.
Another similar example is Americas involvement in
10. The Future Of Renewable Energy
Renewable energy constitutes the energy coming from sources that do not get
depleted with time. These sources are not typically exhausted and are environmental
friendly. Although this paper will focuses more on hydropower, the types of
renewable energy sources available in Canada include solar power, wind power,
geothermal energy, ocean energy, and bio energy. Renewable energy
in Canada has as
well had its environmental impacts. The outcomes pose various impacts to the
environment either positively or negatively and end up affecting people s lives.
Canada has had greater embrace on renewable energy, particularly hydropower and
nuclear. In 2011, it was the sixth largest wind power producer worldwide. In Ontario,
there are numerous photovoltaic plants of power. A tidal plant is located in
Annapolis found in Nova Scotia, and it utilizes the tides generated by the Fundy Bay.
Canada has over twenty hydro power stations majority of these located in
Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and Labrador (Islam, Fartaj Ting,
2013).
A brief look at the sources of Renewable energy in Canada
It is quite notable that Canada has the large reserves of renewable energy. In the
year 2012, it produced three times more renewable energy than the whole of
Germany (McKirdy Solar Energy Society of Canada, 2011). Sources of renewable
energy include:

11. Fascism In The Kite Runner
I realized the impact of events on childhood when I was watching the movie, The
Boy In Striped Pajamas, a movie about an unlikely friendship between a Jewish boy
and a German boy. The movie covers an unlikely friendship, and the childhood
curiosity ends in the German boy sneaking into a concentration camp to see his
friends and both of them dying. At the end of the movie the parents of the German
boy scream in agony, realizing what happened to both kids despite their religious
belonging was wrong. The prejudice resembles one similar seen in Afghanistan. In the
novel The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseinidisplays the growth of fascism and the
manner in which it can drastically dehumanize a childhood. He tells the story through
Amir, a privileged Pashtun boy in Afghanistan, and his friend and servant, Hassan, a
Harraza, the ethnic minority in Afghanistan. He does so in three very distinct time
periods. First, during the Soviet takeover, then Afghan Revolution, and then finally

a metaphor to show their social classification for people they believed were misfits

a class below dogs. The Taliban led the destruction of childhood for children by
having them live in fear and killing their parents in front of
12. Juvenile Gangs
Monitoring a juvenile s social media that has engaged in raping could benefit society
and future possible victims of the juvenile, but it could also help identify the best
treatment for the offender.
Juvenile Gang Members and Social Media Many juveniles that end up on probation
come from low income families that live in bad neighborhoods. Many gangs are
formed in bad neighborhoods, and juveniles are more exposed to gangs. Juveniles
usually end up joining gangs because it gives them the comfort, and attention that
they might not getting at home. Joining a gang is usually what influences a juvenile
to commit a crime, and getting into trouble. A juvenile in a gang who is caught
committing a crime, and put on probation it could benefit a probation officer to
monitor their social media. It is no surprise that gangs are also starting to engage

to be friends on social media with people that they hang out with, and have similar
interest like them. Monitoring the social media of a juvenile on probation could
be beneficial because it could help the CJ system possibly find a person of higher
ranking from their gang. Finding person who is in higher command than the
juvenile could be helpful to the CJ system, and could possibly help break up the
gang, or at least be able to avoid certain crimes from being committed. Also one gang

I was born and raised in a peaceful and friendly part of Bridgeport, Connecticut, on
the North End, right in the corner between Trumbull and Fairfield. My family
dynamic has changed a bit in the past three years. I ve lived with my mom, my
maternal grandmother, and my older brother for as long as I could remember. My
dad was just a phone call every other day, but since my grandmother died from bone
cancer he lives with us now too. I have a mutual relationship with everyone in my
family, but I mostly keep to myself.
My happiest childhood memories all involve my dog, Micchan, who I got when I was

year before she finally gave in and said yes.

She was a tiny silky terrier puppy, only 6 months old. Her coat was mostly black with
brown highlights on the end. I picked her up and cried for a solid 30 minutes, out of
pure joy. I already had a name picked out, Micchan. It had no particular meaning. I
just wanted something different. (Over the years she came to have several different
nicknames anyway, including, but not limited to: Boopy, Micchy, Fluffy, and Silly.)
She responded to just shouting in her general direction to get her attention.
It took some time for her to get used to her new home. She did not take an
immediate liking to Smokey, much the same way I didn t; except instead of being
afraid of their size difference, she was aggressive, and made it seem as if she was
the bigger of the two. It was kind of amusing to see that Smokey paid her no mind.
She had a lot of energy, which I put to use teaching her a few basic tricks and
commands. Micchan quickly learned how to sit, lay down, roll over, and shake, but
she was too impatient to learn stay.
I spoiled her rotten with belly rubs and treats, but even if I was technically the main
one in charge of her, she preferred my mom over me. Likely because she was the
one who fed Micchan while we were at school, and maybe because Micchan just
gravitated toward the leader of the family. Nonetheless, to Micchan,

15. Mexican National Identity After The Mexican Revolution
Of...
After the Mexican Revolution of 1910, a nationalistic sentiment spread throughout
Mexico as they sought to form a unified identity under its new constitution. Under
the new organization of the country, Mexico underwent many political and social
changes, many of them violent. At the turn of the 20th century, Mexican
nationalism was of the utmost importance. Finally, the masses of Mexican poor
began to have a voice in their own destiny and began to seek out a national identity.
In order to be fully immersed in an identity that seemed ambiguous due to centuries
of colonization, Mexico looked to the arts to help mold Mexico s new character as a
country. Muralists like Rivera, Siqueiros, Orozco and Khalo portrayed the struggle
for freedom and democracy against the oligarchs that had exploited the poor for
decades. Musicalso played a pivotal role in expressing nationalistic views and ideas
through movements such as the traditional and the indigenismo . One of the
composers who was at the forefront of the indigenismo movement was Carlos
ChГЎvez. ChГЎvez strived to distance himself from romantic influences and
practices, and searched for new methods to create pieces that were for everyone, not
just the elite. Chavez s investigation of indigenous Indian cultures, native folk
elements, and dance forms brought an unprecedented vigor and visibility to 20th
century Mexican Music. ChГЎvez traveled to Europe and the United States to gain
recognition beyond Mexico s border, thus catapulting his influence on Mexico s
musical style and cultures. Born in 1899 to a modest, but comfortable household in
Mexico City, Carlos ChГЎvez was exposed to music through the primary instruction
of his older brother Manuel, who gave him piano lessons. From a very young age,
Carlos taught himself and analyzed works of great composers in order to get a grasp
on composition. He started out composing for piano in a traditional romantic style.
The compositions from before 1921, mostly for piano, are essentially Romantic, with
Schumann as a detectable influence. These juvenilia also include piano arrangements
of Mexican songs, and so prefigure two main musical interests of ChГЎvez s
maturity: traditional genres (sonata, quartet, symphony,

17. Essay on Similes in The Big Sleep
Similes in The Big Sleep
In response to Raymond Chandler s The Big Sleep, I have just one question. Why
all the similes? There isn t a single page in the novel that doesn t display this
annoying literary device. Everything is like this or like that. It never ends! Similar to
decoding a secret message that isn t difficult to understand, but nevertheless tiring due
to the overwhelming amount of messages, the novel is frustrating to read. The
following analysis acknowledges Chandler s creativity in developing his main
character, Philip Marlowe, with his usage of simile. However, the excessive style of
the novel creates a dominating force that ultimately leaves the reader unfulfilled at
the end.

The smile would wash off like water off sand and her pale skin had a harsh granular
texture under the stunned and stupid blankness of her eyes (64). This is a rather
harsh observation, yet is important in realizing Chandler s excessive use of simile.
His analogies are often lost when he compares every type of characteristic; whether it
is external or internal, positive or negative. The Sternwood daughters are two
different characters whom Marlowe observes in contrasting ways. Using numerous
similes to describe both characters simply confuses this difference.
It is from this standpoint that the novel is absolute drudgery completing. Simile
after simile is overlooked because they are too numerous to count. The reader
accepts Chandler s analogous style and skims over it in order to solve the mystery
in their lifetime. Marlowe gives an astute observation that is often lost because the
reader s mind has swelled into a ball of oozing muck from the heavy dosage of
similes. However, this problem is a small droplet in an overwhelming sea of
redundancy that Chandler whole heartedly navigates to perilous depths.
Not only are the similes potentially overlooked, they also create a bigger problem in
deterring readers from finding the more interesting themes, such as truth and loyalty,
in the novel. If they skim over the similes, they will most likely skim over some of
these important, and interesting, themes. His interactions with

Elphaba embodies feminist characteristics throughout the novel. She is strong
minded and passionate in what she believes in. She sacrifices her happiness in
order to fight for the rights of Animals. She displays determination and
perseverance in a cause that deals with discrimination of a species. Maguire uses
this opportunity to show that women should engage in gaining their freedom or
stand up for a cause they believe in. This is reflected through Elphaba s actions as
she defends the rights of Animals. Elphaba also expresses her strong will when she
encountered the Wizard. She demandingly asks the Wizard to change the way
Animals were treated even though she is aware of his authority. So what? Elphaba

Susanna,
The main beneficiary in Shakespeare s will was Susanna, his oldest daughter. There
are many of his plays, especially his later works, that reflect loving yet occasionally
strained father daughter relationships. From this it is easy to gather that
Shakespeare adored Susanna and loved her dearly. Had he not adored her, she more
than likely would not have been mentioned in his will as often as she was and he
would not have written plays based on her.
William Shakespeare is credited with writing several plays throughout his lifetime.
Some are certainly more well known than others. Shakespeare wrote comedies such as
Tempest,
Twelfth Night, and Midsummer Night s Dream. Some examples of his tragedies
include Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Macbeth. ... Show more content on

Much is unknown about Fletcher, however. Though he was well known during his
lifetime, his work is not as highly praised now as Shakespeare s work is. Fletcher s
talent at playwriting was
overshadowed by the colossal genius of Shakespeare (The Independent, 1). He is
even referred to as a forgotten man who became Shakespeare s friend, co writer and
creative inspiration (The
Independent, 1). John Fletcher was perhaps a rival of Shakespeare, who posed as
major competition for him. It is likely that Shakespeare knew of the potential
Fletcher possessed for playwriting, which pushed him much harder than he had ever
been pushed before. Shakespeare would then have to step up and work harder for
his reputation as a playwright since someone else, who was younger and more
modern at the time, had the potential to write plays as great or perhaps greater than
any Shakespeare had written. This happened at a very good time, however.
Shakespeare had a bit of a crisis as he aged because he was no longer seen as the
most popular playwright of his time. He was about forty eight years old at the time,
seeing as it was around the year 1610. He considered leaving London before his
retirement and discontinue his playwriting career. This was until he began working
with John Fletcher. Perhaps they were extremely
Petross 6 competitive, but it never stopped Fletcher from trying to help Shakespeare
out of his playwriting rut. Although

Have you ever been terrified to fall asleep at night? Nightmares are frightful
dreams in which the dreamer can feel threatened, severe anxiety, and deep distress.
Emily Bowen has been experiencing these horrid dreams for the past week. These
nightmares can send you into a movie like trance in which you are the star. Ever
since the nightmares have started Emily has feared her closet and underneath her
bed. Her small walk in closet has a pull string for the light in the middle and several
objects that look scary in the darkness. Underneath her bed she keeps many pairs of
shoes and her lucky stuffed animal which had fallen under there the other night.

The hideous monster stands about ten feet tall, has three eyes, four arms, and two
legs. It is a grey color and has an enormous mouth with sharp teeth. In her
nightmare, the monster from the closet lures her in. The closet is no longer the
closet anymore; it is an entirely different world. In this world the trees have no
leaves, the sky is not blue and it does not have any clouds. Overall, this world is
dark. The monster takes her down an almost endless road until finally Emily sees a
gigantic building that looks similar to a castle. It takes her inside the building and
into a room. The room s walls are covered in blood and have a vast amount of items
that could be used for torture. The beast then puts Emily into a chair in the center
of the room and ties up her hands. It then goes over to the table on the left side of
the room to grab a mallet. While the monster is turned away, Emily is able to untie
herself and escape from the building. She runs quickly down the almost endless
road. In the distance she sees a staircase. She does not know where the staircase
leads but the monster is not far behind her so she rushes up. As she gets higher up
the staircase she notices some recognizable clothing, such as her bright pink jacket
and her favorite yellow shirt. Emily had made it back into her own world. She felt a
great feeling of joy as she crawled out of the closet and closed the door behind. Little

thinking about it, our narrator is also obsessed with death. The narrator tends t

people loving in their last days. And there are also references in the novel when he
is curious to know what death would be like. When fight club was in the first days
of beginning, the narrator let Taylor take charge of explaining the rules and taking
the lead of the fights. The narrator only wants to destroy things. An example of this
is when the narrator fights the boy with the angel face at the fight club and nearly
kills him. In the film, the narrator said he felt like destroying something beautiful.
Eventually the Tyler side of the narrator begins to take bigger control and desire o
destruction grows. This is when project mayhem is taken into full effect, and the
goal is t destroy civilization and create a new civilization. This idea scres the
narrator, so he goes to try to stop project mayhem. Our narrator thinks about his work
and applies his theories to the project and fight club, he really needs to end these
things from moving forward. The narrator successfully rids himself of Tyler, his
opposite personality, after shooting himself in the mouth. The narrator had an identity

That is mostly why death is not resisted but accepted as a part of life in the Islamic

of the individuals in the area. Many fear death and do not want to accept that life
will eventually end, even with the promise of meeting their savior once they pass.
Depending on the field that the nurse works in, interacting with a dying individual
may or may not happen. If a person is taking care of a dying individual it is
important to know some basic etiquette so that the person or their family will not

The Old Covenant is a compilation of testimonies and instructions given to all of
Israel. They had been instructed by God s servants and had witnessed numerous
divine miracles from God, yet they failed to live up to their end of the bargain. This
overview will show us a pattern of human failings and God s plan of redemption.

In the beginning was God, God creates the universe, he creates Adam and Eve and

wages of sin is death. The Lord God made clothes out of animal skins for Adam and
his wife to wear and graciously pronounced upon all creation a curse for which he

THE PATRIARCHS

through Abraham. God promises to give Abraham his own land and to make him
a father of a great nation through his descendants. His wife Sarah was also old and
had always been barren. However God insisted that Sarah would bear a son to
Abraham and his name would be Isaac. Through the promise and power of God,
Isaac was indeed born to them. In time, Isaac begot Jacob who became known by the
name Israel. He fathered 12 sons from whom the twelve tribes of Israel were
descended. They are Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Gad, Asher,
Joseph, Benjamin, Dan and Naphtali.

The word sanguine is originated from old French Sanguine, from Latin Sanguineus
meaning of blood or bloody and Sanguis meaning blood . According to the medieval
physiology, the sanguine characters, like cheerfulness, optimism, hopefulness etc are
reflection of excess of blood as one of the four body humors. Sanguine describes the
personality of an individual with the temperament related to blood, the spring weather

The League of Nations illustrated the importance the theory have placed on
international institutions to deal with war and the chance for collective problem
solving in a many sided forum (Mingst,2004:63).
Where we could see the weakness of this theory was when the Liberals is seen to
have failed to make the world safe for democracy as President Woodrow Wilson, who
authored the covenant of the League of Nations, claimed it could during WW1, even
when its doctrine were institutionalized into international organizations like the
League of Nations and later the United Nations. Mingst also added that the League of
Nations proved incompetent of maintaining collective security and many questions of
the basic goodness of humanity came up, leaving liberalism under intense scrutiny.
These questions made liberalism as a theoretical perspective fall out of favour.

This theory believes people to be sinful and wicked by nature and man s aggressive
power seeking and lustful nature has implications on the state. Individual in states are

Those aged above 65 have enlarged from 26.5 million in 2006 to 29.47 million in

37. Enslavement of the Individual in Capitalist Society as...
Bourgeois society enslaves the individual such that any attempt to transcend one s
environmental limitations results in self destruction. Nietzsche slave morality
theory is applicable to the works of Dostoyevsky, Mann, and Ibsen, and posits that
an individual uprising under a bourgeois blanket leads to reactivity, not activity.
Though each man calls for individuals values to be raised in some way (in the case of
Nietzsche, by an Гјber mensch), each understands the impossibility of that under
bourgeoisrule. Marxargues that the only way to restore individuality is for the
proletariat to band together and overthrow the society that hinders its freedom. Only
then will slave morality be erased as individuals forge active change.... Show more

This proposes that an individual is allowed to impose his own values on society.
However, Raskolnikov s actions imply that he still operates out of a slave
mentality. He eats his soup in a mechanical sort of way (1, 6, p.86), and in the
murder of the landlady he almost mechanically struck her (1, 6, p.96). The crime
seals Raskolnikov s isolation, which is necessary for an extraordinary man to set
himself apart from the rest and defeat his slave impulses; he tells his mother and
sister, I want to be alone. Better forget me altogether (4, 3, p.328). However, even the
self sufficient Svidrigaylov demonstrates a human requirement for the company of
others, indicating his own lavishness: And I shall be your slave‹for the rest of
my life (6, 5, p.506). Further examples refute Raskolnikov s theory. He wonders if
man isn t really a beast‹man in generalŠthe whole human raceŠthen all the rest
is just prejudice, just imagined fears (1, 2, p.44). Raskolnikov s, or any single man
s, inability to rise out of the morass of bourgeois complacency is pointed out by a
bar patron, who asks Would you kill the old woman yourself?ЕIf you are not ready
to do it yourself, it s not a question of justice at all (1, 6, p.86). The Raskolnikov
does eventually kill her by himself, the important idea presented here is that no single
person has the strength or will to combat bourgeois morality by himself; rather, there
38. Electro Swing And Its Place Of Music History
ELECTRO SWING AND ITS PLACE IN MUSIC HISTORY
Pedro Osuna Ardoy
Although many people would argue that electro swing is to be heard as EDM and
not as jazz, electro swing can actually help us rethink the lines we draw between jazz
and dance music because it shares the function of early jazz more than jazz as art
music. What is electro swing anyway? A lot of people ask themselves this
question, and nobody seems to have a closed answer. The website electro
swing.com tries, but ultimately concludes that it s rather difficult to give a precise
definition. According to Tom Hyland, of The Electric Swing Circus, electro swing
is not even necessarily an independent genre in its own right, but more of a flavor ,
a way of adding swing to existing electro genres. This would situate the genre in
EDM history, not in jazz, but opinions are diverse in this matter.
This is an image from the song Suzy, by the french band Caravan Palace. If you
observe carefully, you first notice the fact that the instrumentation is that of swing
bands: violin, double bass, clarinet and jazz guitar (usually in gypsy jazz style).
Their outfits emulate those of the 30 s and 40 s, aesthetic supported also by that
vintage gramophone in the back, from which the DJ is programming and mixing.
Next to the lead singer is another member of the band, dressed as a robot. This is
why electro swing is best understood as a hybrid, being jazz and EDM equally
important for its birth. This is not the first time jazz and

The Jim Crow Laws were made to enforce segregation. In To Kill A Mockingbird,
there is lots of segregation. White people have their part of the town and black
people have theirs. White people have their opinions and black people have theirs.
It never talked about the Jim Crow Laws specifically, but you could definitely see
examples of them. For example, Atticus, are we going to win it? No honey. Scout
and Atticus said while they were talking about the trial. (Lee, 87) Atticus knew they
were not going to win the trial because of segregation and how people felt about
blacks.
The Jim Crow Laws originated in the South. Jim Crow was not an actual person but
he was a fictional character in a play that was played by the white actor, Thomas

40. Summary Of Disloyal Order Of Water Buffaloes By Pete
Wentz
Pete Wentz s songs are full of allusions, irony, connotations, and metaphors tell stories
and views. The lyrics often are hard to understand, but if one looks into the lyrics,
there are different meanings and interpretations.
For example, in Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes , the lines So boycott love/ Detox
just to retox could have many different meanings. The first line may when looked
at may have two different meanings. Many people boycott things because they
think it may be bad for them and other people and love isn t the kindest of things.
Though, there may be a second meaning. Think about how someone feels after
their heart is broken; quite often they don t want to fall in love again. So maybe
they are boycotting love just to keep themselves safe? And if you look at the
second line, Detox just to retox could also have different meanings. It could be
about some addicts: they may just abstain from something just to retox, or go back
to it again. But, also it could be about how people aren t perfect and they try to
detox only to go back to it. And, when you look at both lines it could be someone
trying to boycott love or leave a person and boycott their love. And people detox to
rid themselves of something toxic, and love can be toxic in the case of toxic
relationships. And quite often, many go back to their abusers which could be what
Detox just to retox could allude to. This is just the writer s take, it could mean
something else to someone else.

41. Candide, The Idea Of Optimism
Comedy of ideas, a form a satire and also known as a form of high comedy, is a
when two ideas of thoughts are put directly against each other. Typically it involves
characters arguing about ideas that involve politics, social classes, and society as a
whole. Characters use wit, mockery, and clever language as a way to mimic and
mock their challenger. In the case of Candide, the idea of optimism (Pangloss views)
and pessimism (Martin) are pinned against each other. Optimism is an attitude in
which one remains hopeful and positive despite the negative circumstances. Pangloss
view of optimism involves his belief that everything happens for a reason. Pangloss is
stuck in this particular state of mindthrough out the novel. He firmly believes that
the death, mishaps and misfortunes of others are the way the world is and God has a
plan. Candide also starts out in this state of mind due to the fact that Pangloss
mentored him and shaped his way of thinking. However, unlike Pangloss, Candide
progresses in his way of thought. In this novel, Pangloss represents Voltaires attack on
philosophical optimism and the non progressive social consequences involved with
optimism.
Voltaire depicts three lifestyles in Candide. Candide starts out by living in a
Paradise , a representation of the Garden of Eden. Then there is a Utopia which is
his time living in El Dorado, a place where everyone is equal and competition is
nonexistent. This is essentially the most perfect
42. Street Gangs Case Study
Abstract: This review studies in depth research done on street gangs. Social issues
have social scientists turning away from including this in their research around
this time. Sociological views have been changed dramatically in the past 40 years
due to gender and racial studies. Also, women have started to join gangs since
America has been changed with woman equality laws passing. Introduction The
look and study of street gangs have been shifting over the past 4 5 decades due to
changes in the tactics taken by sociologists. There were many books written about
these gangs including The Gang , by Thrasher, which was recognized as one of the
first or if not the first gang related to sociological views. People ask questions such
as, Why do people join these gangs and why do most of them end up causing havoc
and violence within a city. This is a question a normal person that isn t looking at
these people as subjects due for change but rather people who aren t normal .
Sociologists look at these people and ask questions like, Where do they live? Who
are they friends with? How and why did their social practices and cultural values
change? These are questions a sociologist would ask simply because there are many
factors which come out when determining the choices of deviance within a person.
Misperception of Gang Members The general public have been taught to look down
upon these gangs. They are also summed up to be all darker skin colors such as
latinos and blacks.
43. Gothic Horror Literature Of Edgar Allan Poe
Gothic horror literature has induced feelings of fear, shock, and abhorrence to
many readers since the eighteenth century. American writer, editor, critic, and poet,
Edgar Allan Poe became a highly influential figure in the world of literature and is
one of the first writers to develop this genre of fiction and horror. He is best known
for his short stories that capture many gothic horror elements. In Poe s popular short
stories The Fall of the House of Usherand The Tell Tale Heart
, Poe can be described
as a Gothic writer by exploring themes of death and darkness, madness and
helplessness, supernaturalism and setting and architecture, in order to reverse the
norms of rationality as illogical and unexplainable events generate fear in the reader.
For many centuries, people have had a morbid desire to explore the realms of
death and darkness; As a result, death and murder became a staple in Gothic
writing and a key feature in many of Poe s stories. Additionally, death is the
ultimate unknown which is why it is portrayed in The Tell Tale Heart as the
narrator resolves to murder his victim because he is afraid of the old man s eyes
resembl[ing] that of a vulture (138). He does so in a gruesome manner by suffocating
the old man with a mattress, dismembering his body, and proceeds to hide the
remains under the floorboards. In the Gothic age, one of the greatest fears was
anything that threatens reason; Consequently, Poe creates this horrid murder as it

Men constantly surround Captain Miller; this suggests his importance and the fact
that he is a figure of authority. Without this entourage of soldiers beside him we
would probably not even notice his superiority amongst the ranks.
At the very beginning of the film when we see the aged Private Ryan making his
way towards the grave of Captain Miller he is walking about three metres ahead of
the rest of his family, this shows the way the war and thinking about the war has
made him distant. It is clearly a long time after the war has finished the fact that he
still seems that he doesn t want to walk with his family and share the experience
shows how the gruesome war has shaped him into a possibly despondent person.
Janusz Kaminski, who was the lead camera man on the recording of Saving Private

battle scene to Saving Private Ryan both shocking and realistic. On the boats as they

legal right to file the petition for eminent domain, he will assign three disinterested

46. Analysis Of Native Son By Richard Wright
In Native Son, Richard Wright shines a light on the harsh reality a young African
American male faces, as a result of the unhealthy stereotypes created by a white
dominated society. Richard Wright was born in 1908, in Natchez, Mississippi. His
mother s chronic illness set the tone emotionally, in his life and writing. His
grandmother practiced evangelism. The prayers daily, up to half a dozen.
Although Wright s food was already limited, his grandmother applied further
dietary restrictions. Not only was he malnourished, he was also beaten throughout
his childhood. Wright s grandmother also did not allow him to participate in any
form of entertainment or games. Whether it be a game of baseball or a board
game, he was not allowed to partake in such activities. Wright did not have a proper
education because of his constant moving back and forth from relative to relative.
His schooling was broken. However, he did graduate from ninth grade at the age
of sixteen. Violence and hunger were his childhood memories. Which made him
bitter, leading him to join the communist party later in his lifetime. Wright s
majority of significant life events occurred in Mississippi, Chicago, New York and
Paris (Bone 1). In 1927, Wright along with his family moved to Chicago, where he
worked several jobs. During the depression, he was unemployed and placed in the
South Sided Boys Club, by a relief agency, where he created the character, Bigger

47. Examples Of Roberta In The Grandmaid
Dreiser emphasizes Clyde s turmoil over the decision to kill Roberta to highlight
the battle between the individual and his desires. Clyde saw this as the only way
to keep Sondra in his sights. Roberta would ruin him if Sondra ever found out. So
long had he been haunted by the desire to make himself as attractive looking as any
other well dressed boy (Dreiser 50), he can t stop now. He is haunted by the desire
to rise in society. This desire that has haunted him, also twisted his thoughts and
feelings of Roberta. Clyde does not understand the hold it has. She need not think
that she could make him. No, no, no! At times, when in such moods, he felt that he

These moods not only give Clyde the confidence to do it, but also justify

What does the word dragon mean to us? Generally, if one is asked this question, the
response would be unintelligent dangerous weapons of destruction . However, this
is not the case in J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit , nor is it true for the early mythology
of dragons. Instead, this modern definition is replaced with one of, greedy, intelligent
beings with human characteristics . Hence, a question arises as to why the image of
dragons has been drastically downgraded throughout literature? To answer this
question, I will first begin by isolating passages from Tolkien s The Hobbit in an
attempt to describe certain features of Smaug the magnificent. Afterwards, I will

Traditional dragons were portrayed when the certain writers have been able to
preserve the wonder of the creatures. Whereas, modern dragons are illustrated when
select stories have implemented new components that have served as counter
productive as depicted by the Harry Potter series which relegates the true plot
potential of these beasts. Additionally, these modern dragons tend to be obstacles for
the main hero to overcome, which is a stark contrast from the traditional dragons.
Therefore, for what reason have writers decided to downgrade the beasts? Unerman
(2002) puts forth the belief that fictional evil is more convincing and more
frightening when people, not dragons, are the true enemy (pg. 100). In addition,
another argument could be made in that dragons such as Smaug will overshadow the
main human villain, therefore, by downgrading the beasts to simple plot obstacles, it
allows for the dragons not to overshadow the main villain, and I cannot accept either
argument. Suggesting that humanity allows for more engaging villains is absurd,
considering that the simple task of personifying a dragon in Smaug made for one of
the greatest, psychologically complicated, and utmost captivating villain in all of
literature. Nonetheless, one may argue that Tolkien s Smaug serves as the same
purpose as a dragon in the Harry Potter series; a plot obstacle that cause destruction.
Granted that this notion may appear plausible, it proves false in terms of
characteristics of the dragons individually. In other words, the dragon in Harry Potter
happens to be illustrated as regular animal that features no unique qualities, whereas
Smaug is categorized as a complex and unique character, in terms of his motives,
intelligence, and the threat he poses to those who dare challenge
