Motivation has several key elements - it is goal-oriented, ongoing, active and conditional but not directly observable. The process of motivation involves motives, behaviors, goals, and tension reduction. There are different types of motivation such as positive vs negative, relational vs emotional, primary vs secondary, intrinsic vs extrinsic, and financial vs non-financial motivation.
