Fontainebleau Letters
Dear Sam, How are you? I hope this letter finds you in good spirits. I am in the city
Fontainebleau near Paris, France to see where the Three Musicians by Spanish artist Pablo
Picasso Paris; created one of his paintings (oil on canvas) ), Three Musicians, in the summer of
1921 while visiting there with his young family. However traveling to Fontainebleau provides me
with the opportunity to go where the artist created such artwork. I found a package deal (flight
and hotel) for $1550 via www.expedia.com. I will be staying in one of the top hotel in France
called La Demeure du Parc led which is located at 36 rue Paul Seramy Fontainebleau. Three
Musicians was painted in Fontainbleau. Fontainebleau is a town southeast of Paris, known for the

It is protected by France s Office National des ForГЄts, and it is recognized as a French national
park. The materials used in Three Musicians are oil on canvas. The process used for the
materials was an oil painting. It is an oil on canvas and measures 6 7 x 7 3 3/4 (200.7 x 222.9
cm). Three Musicians is a perfect example of Cubist style. Cubism was created by Picasso and
Georges Braque (French, 1882 1963) in Paris between 1907 and 1914. Cubism was one of the
most influential visual art styles of the early twentieth century. In Cubism, the subject of the
artwork is transformed into a sequence of planes, lines, and arcs. Pablo Ruiz y Picasso, also
known as Pablo Picasso, was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer,
poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. He was born October 25, 1881
and died april 8, 1973 at the age of 91, in Mougins, france. Picasso demonstrated extraordinary
artistic talent in his early years, painting in a naturalistic manner through his childhood and
adolescence. I also learnt that Picasso had refused to part with the work for many years, before
finally letting A. E. Gallatin acquire it for his Gallery of Living Art in New York in

Causes of the French Revolution Essay
Causes of the French Revolution There is no doubt that the French Revolution has had a profound
effect on the world. The cause or causes of it have been greatly disputed. Clearly the Revolution s
primary cause was the presence of a weak monarchy and a lack of a stable system of government.
France s absolute monarchy had many changes toward the end of the eighteenth century. Louis
XIV, in his attempts to centralize his authority and also lessen the power of the aristocrats, had
planned out an intendant system. The intendants were like governors. They would oversee one
region of the country. These intendants did not govern the region in which they lived and were
chosen from other than the aristocracy. This insured that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were three divisions or classes in France. These classes were called estates. The first estate
which was composed of church officials, had great power and obtained enormous salaries.
Church officials obtained their salaries via taxes collected from church property. Therefore, since
the officials received their salaries from the church property, they did not have to pay taxes. The
second estate was mainly composed of nobility. They too were exempt from paying taxes. This
left the tax burden upon the third estate. The third estate consisted of some merchants and
entrepreneurs; however, the majority were peasants. Corruption of the estates was causing much
frustration among the common people who composed 70 percent of the population. The
monarchy tried to make an attempt to give the third estate power. The monarchy established the
Estate s General. This too, was corrupted. Unlike most legislative bodies, the Estate s General did
not vote by each person having a single vote. Rather, they let each estate have one vote each.
Since the first two estates were always in agreement, the third estate was always out voted. This is
a prime example of how the lack of a stable government had an immensely tragic effect on the
people of the country. If the monarchy had tried to make some reform or if Louis XVI had more
backbone to institute some tax reform to lessen the burden on the third

Country Profile on Finland
Country Profile on Finland
Finland is a republic located in Northern Europe between Sweden and Russia, with Norway to the
north. Finland is thought to have been settled soon after the Ice Age and first inhabited by the Sami
people. By the 12th century, Finns speakers had pushed the Sami people out and Christian
mercenaries were preparing to convert Finland. In 1157, as a result of a crusade led by Swedish
King Eric IX, Sweden conquered Finland and as such, converted Finland to Christianity. However,
by 1809, Sweden surrendered Finland to Russia. The Czar, Alexander I of Russia, set up Finland as
a Grand Duchy, establishing himself as its monarch.
In 1917, in the midst of the March Revolution in Russia, where Russians protested as a result of
the effects of World War I, Finland took advantage of the time to declare its independence from
Russia. In 1919, Finland adopted the constitution that is still used today and became a republic. By
1939, Finland was once again attacked by the Soviet Union. Joseph Stalin offered Finland territory
in exchange for land that would protect northern Russia from an attack from the west. However,
Finland refused to accept this offer and the Soviet Union used force to obtain the territory, starting
The Winter War. After a few months of resistance, The Finns lost and the war culminated with the
Treaty of Moscow, which resulted in Finland surrendering 1and to the Soviet Union.
In 1941, The Finns joined Germany in attacking the Soviet Union,

Private Security Forces in Iraq
Private Security Forces In Iraq The on going war in Iraq has been a war that has changed the
tactics in which war is fought. The war in Iraq has been fought mainly through the use of aerial
missiles and by surprise, a large number of women. This current war has demonstrated the
change of times and the rise of the information age. But the most surprising aspect of the war in
Iraq is the large sum of private security forces patrolling Iraq. These private security forces have
amassed to around 20,000 soldiers so far in the Iraqi region and growing. Their role according to a

Prince started the company hoping luck was at his side; he bet his money on the fact that the
government was getting more and more eager to use the aid of businesses to put people on the
front line. Luckily for Prince, this game of chance paid off. After September 11th the private
security companies saw a major advancement in the industry, the government rapidly privatizing
jobs previously reserved for only uniformed troops. Although the presence of these contractors are
good and useful protection for the military presence already in Iraq, there are many problems as
the rules and regulations that the contractors must follow still aren t set in stone. In addition,
because there is no real front in the war, the private contractors are scattered in non combat as well
as combative zones, dissolving the distinction between an actual soldier and a privately contracted
protector of the troops. This blurring of lines makes it easier for one to begin to see these
individuals as mercenaries (individuals fighting strictly for personal benefit) and not contractors
employed for extra protection, which is banned by the Geneva Convention. These contractors have
obligation to their employers, not to the US, and because of that do not have to follow any military
code of conduct, but only follow the business rules of the company that hired them. The payment of
these contractors also can insinuate that these individuals are in this

Masculinity Of Clytemnestra
In this paper, I will discuss the different ways Clytemnestra isn t your typical female character. In
most of Greek mythology women were mostly seen as passive, weak, and constantly taking orders
from men. She was the complete opposite, she was really a one of a kind. More masculine than
some of the men in the stories, and definitely more masculine than feminine she was a very strong,
solid, independent, powerful character throughout Agamemnon. The story definitely wouldn t be as
controversial as it was if it weren t for the boldness, extremely deceptive tactics, manipulative ways,
and ruthless acts of Clytemnestra. She constantly defied the role that was given to women in the art
of ancient Greece, she paved the way for powerful women characters for the future.
The story of Agamemnon was really a prime example of the masculinity of Clytemnestra. From
the point in the story where Agamemnon has to sacrifice his beloved daughter in order to save
the people of his empire and go to war, you could tell that did not sit well with her. I mean it must
be the worst thing in the world to have to sacrifice a child of your own, something that a king
had to do. It makes you think of how great of a king he was to have the balls to do so, but that
decision that he made it stuck with Clytemnestra. It drove her into madness, and ruthless behavior.
She wanted her revenge and she was going to have her revenge no matter what, she was going to
stop at nothing in order to get it. She ruled the

While you may have spent a lot of time working on your goals for the next year, there are plenty of
things that are going to get in your way to achieving them.
Before we go any further let s establish the use of language here. Goals can be substituted with
objectives, targets, outcomes, achievements, resolutions, aims, ambitions and any others you can
think of. For the purpose of this report, the writer will use Goal.
How often have you started off the year, or next phase of your development with good intentions,
and some goals of what you want to achieve, only to find that somehow you never see to achieve
them? What I will cover in this article is the 9 biggest obstacles that will get in your way. I will
take each one in turn and explore what is behind it, why it is there, and more importantly the action
you can take to put it to one side.
What I will also do is evidence this be using the responses of a survey conducted with Sole

Development Of Literacy For Students
The development of literacy for students in pre K through 1st grade all need a basic understanding
of letter recognition, knowing phonics, and the difference between vowel sounds when they are
long and short. Once these skills are established progression will be made with the introduction of
diphthongs and blends. Ways that allow students to learn these basics without losing interest with
posters and reads alouds is incorporating interactive videos such as LeapFrog where it draws the
students in with it being set up as a cartoon and episodes of SuperWhy to reinforce what has been
taught in a fun and exciting way. Another form of teaching through these subjects are the use of
computer applications such as StarFall.
When there is a large incorporation of activities that are interactive with children at an early age
with reading it allows them to make a connection that there is more than just words on a page.
Therefore, creating enjoyment when it comes to having to read or be read to which is very
crucial especially in the early years of a child so they would want to continue having a desire to
read as they progress through their educational career. It is important for a child to not feel forced
when it comes to learning to read because then there is pressure on them and a strong sense of
boredom often found with the child feeling like it is nothing but a drawn out process of having to
stare at a page of words, which can later deteriorate a joy of reading and discourage

Causes Of Failure Of Independence
There are many cause of the failure of war independence 1857. They can be divided in many
religious, economic , and social problems The East India Company was aiming to annex all the
states of India like Avadh, Tanjore, Jhansi, Satara, etc. That s why they introduced systems like
Doctrine of Lapse by which Indian states could be taken over by the Company in case there was
no male heir to the throne of the state. This provoked the rulers like Nana Sahib, the adopted son
of Peshwa and Lakshmi Bai, the Rani of Jhansi. The Company also declared that after the death of
the then Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, his family had to move out of the Red Fort and his
successors were also forbidden to use the title of emperor. All these attempts alienated both Hindu
and Muslim Indians who realized that the White men were intending to devour... Show more

However. If there would be some unity between the different classes, it can be assumed that the
British could possibly be defence During the War of Independence 1857, there was a complete
lack of unity among the fighting groups though all were fighting against a common enemy, the
British soldiers. There was no coordination between different regions of unrest and no attempts
were made to bring their strengths together. Some local leaders even helped the British in the war
e.g. the ruler of Kashmir sent 2000 troops on the British side. However, there were also some other
reasons for the failure of the war.
The sudden outbreak of 1857 war had no defined goals or planning. Different groups were fighting
for different causes. Most of the Muslims wanted to restore the Mughal ruler, Bahadur Shah Zafar,
but Hindus and Sikhs were not ready to fight for restoring the Muslim Mughal Empire. Many
princes were interested in regaining their own feudal powers. A good number of ordinary people
remained neutral i.e. they did not take part in the

Thanks to Contemporary Nursing Essays
The Nursing Practice has come a very long way from what is use to be. Nursing was an
unwanted profession, difficult and challenging in many ways. It was thanks to the dedication,
great effort and sacrifice of many determined nurses that paved the way for contemporary nursing.
Dating back to around middle of the first century Christians use to care and tend the sick, serving
as one of the first nurses that history can account. When the small pox epidemic occurred in
around 165 to 185 AD, these Christians served as nurses. Now, we can imagine how hard it would
have been to be a nursein those days. The conditions were deplorable, with barely any hygiene.
There were harsh conditions to work as nurse, and viruses like the measles outbreak in... Show more

Nursing was even harder for women whose skin color did not favor them at the time, due to
racism. A great example was Mary Seacole, a woman with a great determination to cure the sick and
tend to the injured. After the many letters sent to Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole receive a
letter denying her petition to be part of her team of nurses (Carnegie, 1995). This could have
been a setback for an ordinary person, but it did not stop well determined Mary Seacole, she was
everything but ordinary. Her persistence to serve those in need of medical care let her to travel
more than 3000 miles to Crimea. With limited resources, she bought and opened a lodging house,
in which she took care of the wounded soldiers (Carnegie, 1995). Long after the war was over, she
received recognition for taking care of the wounded.
Determination and great effort are some of the words that come to mind when reviewing some of
the heroic acts by the great nursing pioneers. World War I brought out to light amazing people.
There was great necessity for medical assistance in the battlefield and outside the battlegrounds
(Nies and McEwen 2011). Mary Breckenridge is an example of the women whom influenced in
medical care of the wounded during the war. Aside from establishing the Frontier Nursing Service
(FNS), Mary Breckenridge moved to the rural areas following her passion to care for disadvantaged
women and children (Stanhope and Lancaster,

Scrivener Day Bartleby Discussion Questions
Bartleby, the Scrivener Day 1
1.
The lawyer is a smart and observant man that runs a small law practice with four employees. He
seems oddly obsessed with one of his former employees though. This infatuation with Bartleby has
caused him to write an entire short story about him.
2.
The lawyer is considered by others as an eminently safe man because his job, lifestyle, and
demeanor are not flashy or risky at all. For example, his job as a lawyer is to work with bonds and
mortgages not on high profile murders.
3.
The lawyer s profound conviction that the easiest way in life is the best way shows the reader that
he is not very motivated, is probably content with stay where he is at in his career, and is lazy.
4.

The lawyer s office and general surroundings are presumably in an office building which is in a
city. Inside his office there are two sides one with Turkey and Nippers. The other side has the
lawyer and Bartleby who are separated by a screen. In this story, the setting is important because
Bartleby in particular and the other people in the office as well are trapped in by other buildings
and screens.
12
As presented, Bartleby is a quiet, hard working, pale man that rarely leaves the office during work
hours.
13
The work quarters Bartleby has been given are very cramped and claustrophobic. For example,
out of all the widows near Bartleby s desk the only thing visible is bricks from the other buildings
and right behind him is a screen separating his office with his boss s office.
14
As a new hire, Bartleby is very diligent and effective in his work. The lawyer is surprised by how
well his new hire is doing so soon. The lawyer even described Bartleby as parched for copy work.
15
The lawyer s initial impression of Bartleby was very positive. His impression was so positive that
he put Bartleby s desk closest to his own desk so that he could do his more important and urgent
tasks.

I regarded Bartleby s response to the lawyer when asked to proofread documents as being as

different issues presented between today and earlier days in the case of media portrayal of sex and

video, radio and channels as opposed to the past, the media was considered to be reliable and a big

Recommendations for minimizing problems of media portrayals
Entertainment and Education programs I think this is one of the best ideas there is to do for
embedding the behaviors of the audiences in order to minimize the problems of media portrayal of
sex and violence. This is used to reach the intended audiences through radio and TV programs for
minimizing the media problems and this can be reduced by attracting audiences through irresistible
programs.
The new kinds of technologies were also used for shrinking the problems of media portrayal of
sex and violence. The technologies that the media have includes the Social Networking sites, such
as Facebook, Instagram and other interactive websites. These Social Media websites were used to
reach the sexual health audiences for mobile target audiences. The sexual health message of media
technologies could make awareness for minimizing the problems of portrayal of sex and violence.
Media Advocacy Media advocacy can reduce the problems of media portrayals of sex and violence.

Dr Pepper Snapple Inc: Energy Drinks

Introduction
In the ever changing world of customer needs and expectations Dr Pepper Snapple was faced with
an increased customer focus on energy drinks. This area, when exploited correctly, is a high
growth and high margin beverage business. In early September 2007, Andrew Baker had his
marching orders. He emerged out a long discussion about entering the energy drink business and off
he went.
First let s understand that an energy drink simply does as its title suggest, gives the consumer
energy. This is accomplished most of the time with caffeine from a guaranabean. Some of the other

This could be company strengths, current market penistrationpenetration, supplier agreements and
simply all of the business and/or customer loyalties that they have had. Also in today s market the
consumers are looking for the next new thing . They no longer want an extension of what they
already have. The consumers are loyal to a company, but can quickly change focus if a company
fails to continue to change to meet their needs and/or demands for change.
3. Do nothing
Dr Pepper could always do nothing at this time. During the stand down they could evaluate mergers,
joint ventures, or buyouts as they market strengthens.
Making a decision Given the track record of Dr Pepper Snapple and looking at the SWOT
analysis I feel that Dr Pepper should introduce an entire new product line. They can leverage their
ability to manage a diverse brand business, the leverage they have in the RTD segment, and the
strengths that the business as a whole has.
Implement the choice FDr Pepper has a great opportunity to penetrate the energy drink market.
They could quickly take a major market share and continue to support the ever changing customer
needs and ever changing expectations. The only remaining concept is how to do it.
1. Target Market Selection Who is to be serviced needs to be determined. Target heavy users, all
users, or even what age and gender to focus on.
2. Product Line and Positioning Choice The product line itself has to be determined. Is it

Harley Davidson s Target Market As discussed from Cheema et al., (n.d.), when the company
failed to specify its target market, it has shifted the focus from old riders (traditional males
between the ages of 29 to 55) to young and female riders. The products were also produced
differently to meet those needs (color, size, and height adjustment). Not only this could result in
brand loyalty, but gave the company a strong market position and a unique brand image that
nobody else could replace. Marketing, shifting and adjusting the products to meet the new target
market was not a risk free decision, however, this alternative made it easier for prospective buyers
to learn about riding and helping the growth of motorcycling industry (Trefis Team, 2015). In
2015, the company has planned to invest more in its customer facing marketing by 65 percent and
increase investment in R D by 25 percent, according to Trefis Team (2015). Moreover, building
plants and offering products with reduced tariffs to developing countries like India would ensure
the company more viable to the international market as well as its market growth.

Biological Determinism, Subculture Crime And Conflict...
The theories that will be looked at in order to provide a sufficient report for the judge on what
caused Albert to enter a life of crime which culminated in his conviction for murder are; biological
determinism, ecological determinism, subculture crime and conflict theories.
Biological determinism
One of the best known application of biological determinism in relation to crime is from Cesare
Lombroso who Viewed criminals as suffering from a depravity caused by an atavistic reversion:
In other words, through a regression to the early form of life found in Humans ape like
ancestors. Lombroso believed that if a person had five or more stigmas then they will likely be
atavistic and were born a criminal . A stigmata consisted of facial or bodily features that deviated
from the norm, such as abnormally small or large ears.
William Sheldon emerged biological and psychological factors of crime to link criminal behaviour
with physical characteristics. William Sheldon claimed that there was a high correlation between an
individual body build and there temperament. He found that Individuals mesomorphs or individuals
who had muscular builds and tended to be more risk taking were more delinquent and criminal than
others .
This theory has however been questioned , most notably by Charles gong, where he compared
criminals who were convicted of different offences with non criminals comprised of oxford and
Cambridge undergraduates, hospital patients and soldiers. He claimed that

The Fair Work Commission ( Fwc ) Essay
The Fair Work Commission (FWC) in Australia along modern awards and employment contracts,
has the power to control employee wages and conditions. Wages are the price paid to the labour
force for its contributions in the production process. The FWC regulates if the National
Employment Standards and enterprise agreements are met under the Fair Work Act (2009).
Modern awards and employment contracts are arranged for the remaining individuals in order to
determine their wages and conditions. Wages are also determined through the government
implementation of price floors and also the supply and demand. Consequences are implemented
by the FWC if Australia companies are found to have contravened the Fair Work Act (2009), one

The Pros And Cons Of Judicial Review
Judicial review does not serve the interest of the people. It serves the interest of the political
designer. The political designer is interested in maintaining power at all cost. When political actors
are in a society where only they are dominant they are not concerned with tactics to secure their
political views or to try prevent an opposing party from gaining too much power. Dominant parties
anticipate continued success while opposing political forces cannot confidently predict that either
party will be in power. In this sense It is preferred to limit the majority. This is the insurance model
of judicial review. By serving as an alternative forum in which to challenge government action,

The first is the access to the court. one can array access to the court on a spectrum from very
limited access, as in the original design of the Austrian model in 1920, in which only state and
federal governments could bring cases, to the present design of the German Constitutional
Court, where not only political bodies but individuals may enjoy direct access through
constitutional petitions and ordinary judges may refer questions as well. (Ginsburg, Pg. 36).
This is the most important factor of judicial review because without cases coming into a court
there will be no court. If a court does not have cases being brought to it, it will not be able to
expand in power. Judicial review has different effects in different societies. A good example is the
American courts. Stare Decisis allows old law to stay in place while new law if put in place and
followed. In a centralized system the court has the power to declare the laws unconstitutional and
immediately void. (Ginsburg, Pg 40). Courts also vary on appointment. Appointment is important
because electing who will interpret the text is beneficial if they are doing it in your favor. For
example, the Hungarian, American and Russian systems use cooperative appointment. The risk of
deadlock is present because of the need of cooperation. Some systems use term limits and renewals
as accountability mechanisms. This is a key component of judicial independence

Film Analysis American Psycho
American Psycho (Mary Harron, 2000) is a film about a wealthy and materialistic Wall Street
investment banker, Patrick Bateman. Bateman leads a double life as a serial killer and as the
film progresses, his homicidal behaviours begin to take over his life making his psychotic nature
evident to those around him. My need to engage in homicidal behaviour on a massive scale
cannot be corrected, but I have no other way to fulfill my needs. Towards the end of the film,
after breaking up with his fiancГ©, Evelyn you re not terribly important to me. Bateman is seen
running through town like a maniac, since at this point in the film he is completely unhinged
and out of touch with reality. He attempts to put a cat inside of the ATM machine that reads
FEED ME A STRAY CAT. After being caught he shoots the elderly lady who tried to stop him,
the police then begin to chase him down and Bateman shoots at them, ultimately blowing up two
police cars and the cops around them. He then runs into a building to hide from the helicopters
and make a call to his lawyer to confess all of his killings. Although this scene does not go
extremely in depth about Bateman s psychopathic lifestyle, when analyzing it by looking at the
dialogue/sound, the editng/variety of camera techniques and the mise en scГЁne it is easily
recognizable. This scene is almost entirely sound which plays a significant role in the way it is
viewed. As soon as Patrick leaves his fiancГ©, eerie music begins to play building suspense so
that it is expected something bad is going to happen. The music quickly turns to sirens as Patrick
shoots a lady, from then on Patrick s behaviour only begins to get crazier, kicking and hitting
cars making alarms go off, the police stop him, and gun shots are heard followed by a large
explosion. Every sound in this scene is meant to add more and more chaos so that the audience is
engaged and full of adrenaline, being able to get a sense of the madness and intensity taking place
and be in the moment with the characters. Although this scene does not have much dialogue, there
is a specific part that does, and it is important. When Bateman gets into the building he is welcomed
by a staff member at the front desk who mistakes him for

Islamic Industry Continues to Grow
The Islamic finance industry continues to grow following continued internationalisation efforts.
Last year s growth was an impressive 16.5%, accounting for 25.7% of total assets in the banking
system. The foreign currency business also grew with assets amounting to RM 18.1 billion in 2013.
Meanwhile in the takaful sector, total assets of takaful funds grew by 10% to RM20.9 billion, while
total takaful contributions accounted for 14% of total premiums in the industry. To increase the
potential return to contributors, takaful operators were allowed to invest abroad any amount of

The Long Term Economic Growth
As a product of colonization, the limited industrial development in the colonized area is a global
issue. Because the widening gap between the rich and the poor between developing and developed
countries, is the root reason of most of the contradictions and conflicts between countries in the
contemporary world. And different level of industrialization caused the widening gap. So we can
say the limited industrial development caused by colonialism is a real issue behind many current
contradictions and conflicts. In order to reduce these conflicts and narrow the gap, the colonized
countries should make a breakthrough on its limited industrialization by focusing on its own
features resources and structures, and taking effective measures impoting foreign capital and
technology and establishing independent or joint scientific research and ventures, to gain a long
term economic growth. For the relation between the colonization and the limited industrialization in
colony, there are usually two views. One view is that people blame the colonizer were not willing
to promote the development of industryin the colony. The other view is that people emphasize it
was hard for the colonized to start the process of industrialization in the colony. In my opinion,
both of the views are reasonable, but neither of them is comprehensive. In order to demonstrate my
opinion on the relation, I choose British India and the Belgian Congo as two objects to analysis in

Napoleon And Stalin Animal Farm Essay
Animal Farm is a political allegory concerning power about the Russian Revolution. At the
beginning of Animal Farm , power was used to achieve great things. It brought all animals of
Manor Farm together but after an initial influence of power, it began to destroy the community that
they had worked together to form. This can be seen by the character development of Napoleon who
is thought to potray Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Unionduring the mid 1920 s. They were
both leaders that abused their power and used ruthless methods to rule over the community. For
instance, Napoleon and Stalin both abused their given power, one of the similarities between them
was their act of violence. In the novella, Animal Farm by George orwell,... Show more content on

In the novella, Animal Farm , by George Orwell, Orwell states, Napoleon had accepted, through
Whymper, a contract for four hundred eggs a week.... Their method was to fly up the rafters and
there lay their eggs, which smashed to pieces on the floor.... He [Napoleon] ordered the hens
rations to be stopped and decreed that any animal giving so much as a grain of corn to a hen
should be punished by death (pg.68). This means that Napoleon killed all the chickens because
they didn t want to give them anymore eggs. Napoleon never consulted with the hens to give up
their products. This is to symbolise what Stalin did in the past when he wanted to take the lands
away from profiting farmers because private property is against the government and socialism.
Both of them tried to control the food production and would not mind killing to get the production
process smoother. Furthermore, both dictators ruled over their subjects with an iron hand. Orwell
states, ...but it was cruel work, and the animals could not feel so hopeful about it as they had felt
before. They were always cold and usually hungry as well (pg 66). This means that Napoleon
would make the animals work hard no matter how the harsh conditions were. In relation to this,
Stalin made loyal proletariat workers work hard until they got too tired and incompetent. Overall,
both dictators governed their people

Theme Of Satan In Paradise Lost
Sympathy for Satan An Emotional Monster
(Analysis of Satan both psychological and physically as he is portrayed in Milton s Paradise Lost)
In John Milton s Paradise Lost, Satan is one of the major figures of the book. The poem s intense
focus on his temperament portrays psychological information of someone with a conflictive
personality, one that pushes and pulls at his emotions. Differing from his fellow fallen angels, he
has no regrets for his decisions and is a fearless leader, but in private his deeper, darker thoughts
take hold. Lisa Ampleman, a managing editor of the Cincinnati Review says he is not the absolute
evil we may have expected, and a sympathetic devil is a dangerous devil (Ampleman). This danger
creates an interesting story of the creation of man and how man came to fall just as Satan had. As ...

One cannot help but believe that everything they do is for the greater good. As well as one
cannot deny the quest and thirst for power, humans constantly are driven by this thirst, driven to
do evil things to get what they want. Milton shows this side of Satan, the leader and epic hero of
his own story. Yet tragedy befalls him and he lays victim to his own pride and greed, making him
the villain as well. Satan knows this to be true and inevitable in the eyes of God. Satan says them
himself through his soliloquies. Barbara Lewalski, author of Paradise Lost and the Rhetoric of
Literary Forms says that Satan s soliloquy here still carries with it the literary significance in
terms of his position in the poem, the often insightful and emotional confession, as well as the
overall impact of the tragedy itself (Lewalski). In the end, Satan can t be a hero, and leaves him to

Theme Of Death In The Stone Angel
Canadian literature is an extensive field which has created a lot of memorable works of literature.
Even though Canadian literature began as an extension of colonial literature, in course of time it
has developed its own national characteristics. Early Canadian literature was heavily influenced by
the traditions of the mother countries. However, by the early twentieth century writers began to
discover their distinctly Canadian voices and expressed them through their writings.
The Canadian literature was mainly influenced by the landscape. The main themes of early
literature were the fights of the native to cope up with the Canadian environment and his fight for
survival. Later novels concentrated on the theme of the conflict between urban ... Show more

Hagar admits the fact that the fear of death has inhibited her life from her childhood itself. The
theme of death occupies a predominant place from the beginning of the novel itself. The beginning
is marked by its peculiar setting, that is, in the cemetery which refers to the death of Hagar s
mother, who died as a consequence of her birth. The novel demonstrates each of Hagar s steps
along the difficult journey of death which is at the same time frightening and terrifying. When
Hagar first faced the truth that she is getting old and not going to be around much longer, her
first reaction is of denial. Hagar becomes angry with herself and with the world. She rejects
everything that would shatter her belief that is strong enough to face life. She rejects others idea
that she is getting old. At one point she says, Doris believes that age increases natural piety, like a

Instructors gravitate towards systematized teaching approaches online in an effort to reduce
confusion and increase course completion (Jimoyiannis, 2012). However little research has shown a
direct link between course completion and structured organization of course content (Mayadas,

Empirical investigation is thus required for estimation of responses magnitude to immigration by
investors, employers, by earlier immigrants and native born workers, and by the public sector, and
also in consumer and housing goods markets. Using the U.S experience, immigrants have been
represented in low skilled occupations. However, a significant and growing share of immigrant is
skilled in great manners. Due to the challenges of mechanisms shaping the economy, empirical

One of the approaches used is spatial studies, which compares the outcome of workers across
geographic areas. The second method used is the skill cell studies, which examines the results of

In an instant Grandpa s face turned serious, and he proceeded to explain how, when he and Jay

design, testing, and training which had gotten started under the Manhattan Project during World

Diet: Restricted fried food.
Diet is essential to having a healthy lifestyle. The body needs key nutrients from different foods
to help the body function properly. Fried food is very unhealth due to the high calorie content
and fried foods have very few nutritional value. If frying foods cannot be balanced it can be

can cause mental effects according to The British Journal of Psychiatry (Akbaraly, et al., 2009).
They found that, processed food dietary pattern is a risk factor for CES D depression (Akbaraly,

The Unity Of Early Greece
The unity of early Greece was dissolved when powerful city states Athens and Sparta became
immersed in a war, known as, the Peloponnesian War. The war began when Sparta led its alliance,
the Peloponnesian League, against Athens to test its seemingly imperialistic design. The league
consisted of Sparta, Thebes, and Corinth. Thucydides, an Athenian historian, philosopher, and
general is credited for much of what is known about the Peloponnesian War. Throughout the war he
kept an accurately detailed description of the events taking place. He published it titled History of
the Peloponnesian War with the intent for future generations to be able to understand how and why
the war came about. (Carr)

Its prosperity increased when it was offered leadership of the Delian League in recognition of its
high performance in the Persian War. The Delian League served as a defensive organization to
protect Greece from future attacks. It collected money from its participating members to be stored
in the treasury on the island of Delos. Athens dictated the amount of contributions from each
member and distributed the funds. (Gill) However, suspicions of Athens abuse of power soon began
to rise. Other cities believed Athens primary goal was to strengthen itself rather than to protect the
overall interests of Greece. The transfer of the Delian League s funds from Delos to Athens
confirmed the suspicions of its selfish intentions. With the Delian League morphing into the
Athenian Empire, the peace treaty was nulled and the Peloponnesian War began.
The causes of the Peloponnesian War have often been debated, but centralize around the same idea.
Thucydides, the Athenian historian, said, The real cause I consider to be the one which was
formally most kept out of sight. The growth of the power of Athens, and the alarm which this
inspired in Lacedaemon, made war inevitable. (Thucydides, 13) He believed that Athens
increasingly dominating power initiated Sparta and its counterparts to take action. The goal of the
Peloponnesian League was to prevent the independent city states

Sixteen Candles And The Breakfast Club Analysis
In Sixteen Candles and The breakfast club we see so much in common as well as differences
present. These 2 John Hughes movies were a big hit in the Directors career, as well as Pretty in
Pink but we are not discussing that movie. In these movies we see a lot of themes crossed over
that are explored in many different ways. One of the main characters for both these movies was
Molly Ringwald; we really showed and expressed these ideals of her characters perfectly. There
were many themes that we can compare and contrast these movies. The 4 main themes that I
believe really made impacts on these shows are: rich vs. poor, popular or unpopular, changing to fit
the norm , and Common similarities between social classes. Hughes is an amazing director that
really captures these moments in each theme; he captures them and presents them at the most
unexpected times in the movies that fit perfectly.
In both Sixteen Candles and The breakfast club we are able to see how different scenarios how the
rich vs. poor is important in these movies, social class play and important roles in each of these
movies. In Sixteen Candles we see how everyone hangs out with people who fit in these ideals.

Stoker was mesmerized by Irving s charismatic performance, but was disappointed to find only a
cursory mention of the event in the next day s Dublin Evening Mail. A second tour by Irving four
years later produced an equally unsatisfactory mention in the Mail, prompting an outraged young
Stoker to march into the offices of the newspaper and offer himself for the unpaid position of
theater critic. He got the job, and as a result, when Irving (now a star of the London stage) returned
to Dublin a third time, this time to star in Hamlet, Stoker had the opportunity to set down in print
glowing praises of his favorite actor. Irving read the review and was delighted to the extent that he
invited the young critic to supper at his hotel, and began a friendship that would last for almost
thirty years.
In the years between 1870 and 1877, Stoker, yielding to his father s wishes, followed him into a
career as civil servant in Dublin Castle. However, Stoker maintained ties to Trinity College,
returning there frequently to speak on a wide range of topics for the Philosophical Society.
In 1878, Irving took over ownership and renovation of London s Lyceum Theatre, and asked
Stoker to come to London to manage the theater and Irving s career. Stoker immediately resigned

The Truth In David Eggers s The Circle By David Eggers
In The Circle by David Eggers, all personal secrets are considered deception. Withholding the
most insignificant opinion or experience is tantamount to a blatant lie. Therefore, the central
character Mae deceives her viewers when she partakes in private conversations with her friend
Annie. Eggers uses Mae s internal conflict over privacy and her eventual confession to express
how idealism can delude an individual s morality. Mae s transparency causes her to discretely
modify her behavior until she is no longer herself. She undergoes these slight behavior changes
as a result of being watched by thousands every single day. After going transparent, she pays more
attention to every little movement and decision she makes everything from what she eats to
how she dresses. She makes these adjustments because being constantly surveilled makes her
more self conscious and sensitive to other people s opinions. As a representative of the Circle to
the whole entire world, she faces the pressure of presenting an image of perfection. This pressure
to appear perfect every moment of every day results in the deterioration of both Mae s mental
health and identity. However, the idealistic beliefs of the Circle prevent her from recognizing her
new lifestyle as unhealthy. She convinces herself that being watched is a good kind of calibration
for her personal habits. Her acceptance of the Circle infringing on every aspect of her life shows
how Mae loses her personhood for the sake of

Examples Of Father Son Relationship In The Book Night
Mclaughlin #1 The book Night shows that father son relationship means that you would give
your own life for someone, but it also shows how it can be twisted that you would kill a member of
your family for as much as a piece of bread. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel the author uses many
scenarios of father sonrelationship such as , when Elie tough his father to march at one of the
concentration camps. Another example of father son relationships is when Elie saved his dad
from being thrown out of a train. If he hadn t done that his dad would be thrown into a pile of dead
people when he was still alive. Lastly an example of father son relationships is when a child killed
his father for a piece of bread.

I threw myself on his body. He was cold. I slapped him . I rubbed his hands crying. And i started to
hit him harder and harder. At last, my father half opened his eyes (99). This is a great example of
father son relationship because it shows how he would risk his life for his dad. Also it shows how
Elie wouldn t let the SS officer throw his dad off the train because he was still alive and Elie loves
his dad.
His eyes lit up, a smile, like a grimace, illuminated his ashen face. And this was immediately
extinguished. A shadow had lain down beside him. And this shadow threw himself over him.
Stunned by the blows, the old man was crying : Meir, my little Meir Mclaughlin #3 Don t you
recognize me... you re killing your father... i have bread ... for you too... He collapsed. The old
man mumbled something, groaned ,and died (101). This is an example of father son relationship
because things got so bad he killed his father for a piece of bread. Also that the mindset of
someone got so bad that he would kill his own father. Lastly this child didn t care about his father
enough so he killed him for

North Korea Famine
The North Korean agriculture industry was not just affected by these natural disasters. The political
and economic shift had also altered the situation in a negative way. Due to the over reliance on
imports such as pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and fuel, their basic needs for the agricultural
industry was not sustainable after a certain political shift. Once certain subsidies were taken off,
this had affected the whole industry immensely.
Politics and Policy
Certain scholars believe that poor decision making had driven North Korea to have suffered more
than what they should have pertaining to the famine situation. North Korea is held responsible for
the famine situation due to their failure on enforcing the right actions to dampen the damages by
the natural forces. The deliberated policy decisions on the refusal to undertake remedial action has
made certain parts of the famine to have been more severe than it should be.

In the 1990s, approximately 800 000 people died due to the famine. Since then, there has been little
proof that grain production had recovered. Little has changed on the policies in place, the
diplomatic environment, which has brought the government to again almost deliberately triggering
another phase of famine.
The result of two generations worth of economic mismanagement and social engineering, North
Korea situation is unlike the other communist countries whom had experienced famine. The effect
of this is seen through the etched policies which has placed them in a difficult situation to reverse
the policies. Resource management is crucial when it comes to combating famine. Should the
resources for the military is shifted towards improving the production of rations, it may help the
situation. However, with the current practices of military first, this is highly

New Orleans Police Department – Recent Challenges. Problem
New Orleans Police Department Recent Challenges
Problem Statement Even before the disaster brought on by Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans
Police Department had serious organizational and reporting issues. According to the United States
Department of Justice Civil Rights Division (2011), several patterns were clearly discoverable in
the organization, including the excessive use of force, under reporting of internal issues,
discriminatory policing, and the number of misconduct complaints were high. The issues that the
Police Force faced for long years before 2005 were, however, only revealed after the flood receded,
and an investigation into the internal affairs of the organization started. The below research will

Government intervention was needed, and an investigation had to be started. Thomas E. Perez,
Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division, in a press release, focusing on the
findings of the investigation, stated: Our findings show that the problems facing the NOPD are
wide ranging, systemic, and deeply rooted in the culture of the Department (The United States
Department of Justice, 2011). A sustainable reform was needed. The investigation report (United
States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, 2011) identified the main organizational
deficiencies as the lack of clear policies, recruitment practices that failed to prioritize high quality
candidates, the lack of training and support provided for the members of the Force, the lack of
supervision, and the Paid Details system. Further, there were several failings in the organization
related to performance evaluation and promotions, complaint handling and investigation,
adjudication, and NOPD lacked a vision of community oriented policing. The cross examination
practices of the Police Force were likewise seen to be insufficient. Victim sensitivity was another
issue that weighed on the New Orleans Police Department: people group were not included in
policy making needs, and there was no connection with its occupants. As a result, people stopped
trusting NOPD. Some of the complaints brought against New Orleans Police

Compare and Contrast Between Classical India and China Essay
CAC between India and China When analyzing cultural traditions and innovations, economic
relationships, and social classifications and expectations during/between the periods of classical
China and classical India. Classical China lasted from 2000 B.C.E 600 C.E, while classical India
lasted from 600 B.C.E 600 C.E. There are quite a few similarities and differences between these
two civilizations. With regards to cultural traditions and innovations both developed similar
technologies in their period. Spoken language was introduced in China during the Zhou Dynasty.

The Gupta s promoted Sanskrit, which became the language of educated people, but this, did
not change the diversity of popular, regional languages. Both India and China were
technologically advanced in their societies with new inventions and ideas. Economic
relationships between classical China and India were similar and almost seemed to rely on one
another. India was considered the center of trade . Most trade routes were all passing through
and dependent on India. Indian emphasis on trade and merchant activity was far more than in
China, and also greater in the classical Mediterranean world. During the Maurya rule, India
expanded their trade between the main centers of civilization Eurasia and Africa. Some products
produced at one end of the system, such as Chinese silks and porcelains, were carried the whole
length of the trading networks to be sold at the other end of the routes, in Rome. As a result,
China and India both had to work together and figure out a way to make sure and help each other
because both civilizations depended on each other for different things. Social classifications and
expectations between classical china and classical India were very similar to each other. Both
classical China and classical India had what is called a caste system. A caste system is when a
citizen is organized into a special group that determined everything from their job, to their political
rights, to their religious beliefs, and who they would marry.

Copyright And Copyright Of Copyright Essay
The first thing for a web site owner to consider when publishing web applications is copyright.
To protect the originality of a web site owner s work , copyright is important issue. Basically, if
someone violates one of the five exclusive rights given to copyright owner by the Copyright Act ,
it is considered as a copyright infringement. These include the right to reproduce a work, the right
to develop derivative works, the right to publicly display the work, or distribute copies3. Copyright
protection is related with following elements :
пЃ¬The text of the site
пЃ¬The pictures on the site
пЃ¬Any clips of videos on the site
Using graphics is one of the important hallmarks of some popular web sites such as Microsoft s
Internet Explorer logo . In addition, text on a web site is also important part of copyright. This is
because plagiarizing text from third parties without permission is illegal like images do. To be
more specific, copyright is an especially essential issue in several web sites of search engines
such as Yahoo and Bing, and Google. In the case of both Yahoo and Bing, they are good at dealing
with copyright infringement by disabling accounts who repeatedly infringe other s copyrights .
And, Yahoo particularly takes care of listening consumers complaints if there are any wrong
copyright infringement reports6. However, Google automatically lower ranking of a particular
web site in the search results list if they have a high number of removal notices regardless of

Junk Food Tax Paper
ABSTRACT
Obesity is an epidemic that is sweeping the United States at a rapid speed, and it kills. Obesity is
responsible for killing more people than anything else, except for smoking. It affects people of
all ages, races, income levels, and geographic locations. Obesity brings with it a myriad of
problems that the individuals who suffer from it face, as well as social problems that are felt by
people in all walks of life. There are astronomical costs that are attributed to it, being paid by
society in the form of medical fees, unemployment benefits, and other miscellaneous costs. This
report proposes that these costs and problems need to be addressed, and one avenue through which
they can be is a junk food tax. This report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, these issues will be positively affected by this proposal as well.
It is also important to note that this problem is not isolated to a specific group of individuals,
although there are groups that are higher risk than others. According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC), anyone can become obese but ...the risk for becoming overweight
and obese tends to be higher among members of racial and ethnic minority populations such as
African Americans and Hispanic Americans. In addition, the disease tends to be more common
among individuals of lower socio economic status (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
2005). This indicates that there are groups whose members are more likely to become obese.
Because of the trend for junk food to cost less than more healthy alternatives, those who have less
access to financial resources are more likely to be come obese.
As serious as obesity is, this issue is not a new one for our nation. Obesity has been a problem
that has been addressed and studied since before the early 1930s, when doctors began to see a link
between obesity and shorter life span (Pool, 2001, p. 7). Since then, and most noticeably in the last
twenty years, obesity has swept our nation to become a condition that plagues more than 60 million
adults in America, nearly one in three adults in this country (Figure 1). Jessica Bazzi, RN, stated
that in

What Are Emerson s Views On Individualism
Emerson begins his major work on individualism by declaring the importance of thinking for
oneself instead of humbly acquiring someone else s belief. Emerson says, To believe that what is
true in your private heart is true for all men that is genius . The one who scorns personal intuition
and, instead, chooses to admit others opinions lacks the inventive power necessary for strong,
fearless individualism. Emerson says, Trust thyself, a saying that ties along this initial section of the
essay. This simply resembles to believe others judgments is poor spirited, with no inspiration or
hope. An individual with dignity, exhibits originality and is childish unspoiled by egoistic desires
but mature. Emerson currently focuses his attention... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Religion s main drawback is its worry of individual creativeness. Emerson s criticism of society,
and particularly its misguided notion of progress, differs from his earlier comments on the
topic. He debates that society does not essentially improve from material changes, as an
example, advances in technology lead to the loss of some sorts of wisdom: The one that
incorporates a watch loses the flexibility to inform time by the sun s position in the sky. Thesis:
Are self reliance and being independent two sides of the same coin? This question is more like a
debatable topic where different individual have their own perspectives and views. The first
objective mentioned above deals with self reliance and the second mentioned below matches the
contradictions of independence together with self reliance. There is a clear space of overlapping
however independence is regarding decision making within the condition you are in, whereas self
reliance concerns management of the resources necessary to support significant independence.
Over the past few years self reliance has decreased remarkably throughout the world with the
increase in dependencies of individuals on others and entities. Individuals are getting more and
more cross dependant and reliable on support either in materialistic or moralistic means. Finally to
be self reliant one need to do things metaphorically and more figuratively that is in one s destiny

Theme Of Death In Anna Karenina
Leo Tolstoy presents two extremely different deaths in Anna Karenina: one of a sickly brother
losing his battle with illness, and one of a woman brimming with intricate complexities committing
suicide because she does not feel like she has a purpose in her life. As Fyodor Dostoevsky asserts
in his work evaluating the novel, In Anna Kareninais expressed a view of human guilt and
criminality. People are portrayed in abnormal circumstances... caught in a whirl of deceit, people
commit crime and fatally perish (Dostoevsky). Dostoevsky speaks to Tolstoy s ability to observe
life and to portray that life to his audience, Tolstoy is able to put his characters in such vividly
abnormal circumstances, that he is able to stir feelings of human guilt in the reader. While both
deaths in the text vary extremely in terms of their contexts, Tolstoy juxtaposes the two deaths to
comment on the natural humanity of death, to determine what it is about death that unites humanity
and characterizes the human experience. Dostoevsky says that, based on Tolstoy s writing, It is
clear and intelligible... that the human soul will remain identical (Dostoevsky). He is able to use
Anna Karenina to show the identicality found in each human soul. In this time in Russia, Tolstoy
shows that this commonality is found in a return to religion and it regret. Yet, he is able to more
broadly assert, that in the final moments of someone s life on Earth, that person searches for
whatever peace they may find,

I am in the city Fontainebleau near Paris, France to see where the Three Musicians by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso Paris; created one of his paintings (oil on canvas) ), Three Musicians, in the summer of 1921 while visiting there with his young family. However traveling to Fontainebleau provides me with the opportunity to go where the artist created such artwork. I found a package deal (flight and hotel) for $1550 via www.expedia.com. I will be staying in one of the top hotel in France called La Demeure du Parc led which is located at 36 rue Paul Seramy Fontainebleau. Three Musicians was painted in Fontainbleau. The process used for the materials was an oil painting. It is an oil on canvas and measures 6 7 x 7 3 3/4 (200.7 x 222.9 cm). Three Musicians is a perfect example of Cubist style. Cubism was created by Picasso and Georges Braque (French, 1882 1963) in Paris between 1907 and 1914. Cubism was one of the most influential visual art styles of the early twentieth century. In Cubism, the subject of the artwork is transformed into a sequence of planes, lines, and arcs. Pablo Ruiz y Picasso, also known as Pablo Picasso, was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright who spent most of his adult life in France. He was born October 25, 1881 and died april 8, 1973 at the age of 91, in Mougins, france. Picasso demonstrated extraordinary artistic talent in his early years, painting in a naturalistic manner through his childhood and adolescence. I also learnt that Picasso had refused to part with the work for many years, before finally letting A. E. Gallatin acquire it for his Gallery of Living Art in New York in ... • 3. Causes of the French Revolution Essay Causes of the French Revolution There is no doubt that the French Revolution has had a profound effect on the world. The cause or causes of it have been greatly disputed. Clearly the Revolution s primary cause was the presence of a weak monarchy and a lack of a stable system of government. France s absolute monarchy had many changes toward the end of the eighteenth century. Louis XIV, in his attempts to centralize his authority and also lessen the power of the aristocrats, had planned out an intendant system. The intendants were like governors. They would oversee one region of the country. These intendants did not govern the region in which they lived and were chosen from other than the aristocracy. This insured that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were three divisions or classes in France. These classes were called estates. The first estate which was composed of church officials, had great power and obtained enormous salaries. Church officials obtained their salaries via taxes collected from church property. Therefore, since the officials received their salaries from the church property, they did not have to pay taxes. The second estate was mainly composed of nobility. They too were exempt from paying taxes. This left the tax burden upon the third estate. The third estate consisted of some merchants and entrepreneurs; however, the majority were peasants. Corruption of the estates was causing much frustration among the common people who composed 70 percent of the population. The monarchy tried to make an attempt to give the third estate power. The monarchy established the Estate s General. This too, was corrupted. Unlike most legislative bodies, the Estate s General did not vote by each person having a single vote. Rather, they let each estate have one vote each. Since the first two estates were always in agreement, the third estate was always out voted. This is a prime example of how the lack of a stable government had an immensely tragic effect on the people of the country. If the monarchy had tried to make some reform or if Louis XVI had more backbone to institute some tax reform to lessen the burden on the third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Country Profile on Finland Country Profile on Finland Finland is a republic located in Northern Europe between Sweden and Russia, with Norway to the north. Finland is thought to have been settled soon after the Ice Age and first inhabited by the Sami people. By the 12th century, Finns speakers had pushed the Sami people out and Christian mercenaries were preparing to convert Finland. In 1157, as a result of a crusade led by Swedish King Eric IX, Sweden conquered Finland and as such, converted Finland to Christianity. However, by 1809, Sweden surrendered Finland to Russia. The Czar, Alexander I of Russia, set up Finland as a Grand Duchy, establishing himself as its monarch. In 1917, in the midst of the March Revolution in Russia, where Russians protested as a result of the effects of World War I, Finland took advantage of the time to declare its independence from Russia. In 1919, Finland adopted the constitution that is still used today and became a republic. By 1939, Finland was once again attacked by the Soviet Union. Joseph Stalin offered Finland territory in exchange for land that would protect northern Russia from an attack from the west. However, Finland refused to accept this offer and the Soviet Union used force to obtain the territory, starting The Winter War. After a few months of resistance, The Finns lost and the war culminated with the Treaty of Moscow, which resulted in Finland surrendering 1and to the Soviet Union. The war in Iraq has been fought mainly through the use of aerial missiles and by surprise, a large number of women. This current war has demonstrated the change of times and the rise of the information age. But the most surprising aspect of the war in Iraq is the large sum of private security forces patrolling Iraq. These private security forces have amassed to around 20,000 soldiers so far in the Iraqi region and growing. Their role according to a New York Times article, is in addition to guarding innumerable reconstruction projects, private companies are being asked to provide security for the chief of the... Prince started the company hoping luck was at his side; he bet his money on the fact that the government was getting more and more eager to use the aid of businesses to put people on the front line. Luckily for Prince, this game of chance paid off. After September 11th the private security companies saw a major advancement in the industry, the government rapidly privatizing jobs previously reserved for only uniformed troops. Although the presence of these contractors are good and useful protection for the military presence already in Iraq, there are many problems as the rules and regulations that the contractors must follow still aren t set in stone. In addition, because there is no real front in the war, the private contractors are scattered in non combat as well as combative zones, dissolving the distinction between an actual soldier and a privately contracted protector of the troops. This blurring of lines makes it easier for one to begin to see these individuals as mercenaries (individuals fighting strictly for personal benefit) and not contractors employed for extra protection, which is banned by the Geneva Convention. These contractors have obligation to their employers, not to the US, and because of that do not have to follow any military code of conduct, but only follow the business rules of the company that hired them. The payment of these contractors also can insinuate that these individuals are in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Masculinity Of Clytemnestra In this paper, I will discuss the different ways Clytemnestra isn t your typical female character. In most of Greek mythology women were mostly seen as passive, weak, and constantly taking orders from men. She was the complete opposite, she was really a one of a kind. More masculine than some of the men in the stories, and definitely more masculine than feminine she was a very strong, solid, independent, powerful character throughout Agamemnon. The story definitely wouldn t be as controversial as it was if it weren t for the boldness, extremely deceptive tactics, manipulative ways, and ruthless acts of Clytemnestra. She constantly defied the role that was given to women in the art of ancient Greece, she paved the way for powerful women characters for the future. The story of Agamemnon was really a prime example of the masculinity of Clytemnestra. From the point in the story where Agamemnon has to sacrifice his beloved daughter in order to save the people of his empire and go to war, you could tell that did not sit well with her. I mean it must be the worst thing in the world to have to sacrifice a child of your own, something that a king had to do. It makes you think of how great of a king he was to have the balls to do so, but that decision that he made it stuck with Clytemnestra. It drove her into madness, and ruthless behavior. She wanted her revenge and she was going to have her revenge no matter what, she was going to stop at nothing in order to get it. She ruled the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Development Of Literacy For Students The development of literacy for students in pre K through 1st grade all need a basic understanding of letter recognition, knowing phonics, and the difference between vowel sounds when they are long and short. Once these skills are established progression will be made with the introduction of diphthongs and blends. Ways that allow students to learn these basics without losing interest with posters and reads alouds is incorporating interactive videos such as LeapFrog where it draws the students in with it being set up as a cartoon and episodes of SuperWhy to reinforce what has been taught in a fun and exciting way. Another form of teaching through these subjects are the use of computer applications such as StarFall. When there is a large incorporation of activities that are interactive with children at an early age with reading it allows them to make a connection that there is more than just words on a page. Therefore, creating enjoyment when it comes to having to read or be read to which is very crucial especially in the early years of a child so they would want to continue having a desire to read as they progress through their educational career. It is important for a child to not feel forced when it comes to learning to read because then there is pressure on them and a strong sense of boredom often found with the child feeling like it is nothing but a drawn out process of having to stare at a page of words, which can later deteriorate a joy of reading and discourage ... There was no coordination between different regions of unrest and no attempts were made to bring their strengths together. Some local leaders even helped the British in the war e.g. the ruler of Kashmir sent 2000 troops on the British side. However, there were also some other reasons for the failure of the war. The sudden outbreak of 1857 war had no defined goals or planning. Different groups were fighting for different causes. Most of the Muslims wanted to restore the Mughal ruler, Bahadur Shah Zafar, but Hindus and Sikhs were not ready to fight for restoring the Muslim Mughal Empire. • 10. Thanks to Contemporary Nursing Essays The Nursing Practice has come a very long way from what is use to be. Nursing was an unwanted profession, difficult and challenging in many ways. It was thanks to the dedication, great effort and sacrifice of many determined nurses that paved the way for contemporary nursing. Dating back to around middle of the first century Christians use to care and tend the sick, serving as one of the first nurses that history can account. When the small pox epidemic occurred in around 165 to 185 AD, these Christians served as nurses. Now, we can imagine how hard it would have been to be a nursein those days. A great example was Mary Seacole, a woman with a great determination to cure the sick and tend to the injured. He seems oddly obsessed with one of his former employees though. This infatuation with Bartleby has caused him to write an entire short story about him. 2. The lawyer is considered by others as an eminently safe man because his job, lifestyle, and demeanor are not flashy or risky at all. For example, his job as a lawyer is to work with bonds and mortgages not on high profile murders. 3. In this story, the setting is important because Bartleby in particular and the other people in the office as well are trapped in by other buildings and screens. 12 As presented, Bartleby is a quiet, hard working, pale man that rarely leaves the office during work hours. 13 The work quarters Bartleby has been given are very cramped and claustrophobic. For example, out of all the widows near Bartleby s desk the only thing visible is bricks from the other buildings and right behind him is a screen separating his office with his boss s office. 14 As a new hire, Bartleby is very diligent and effective in his work. The lawyer is surprised by how well his new hire is doing so soon. The lawyer even described Bartleby as parched for copy work. 15 The lawyer s initial impression of Bartleby was very positive. His impression was so positive that he put Bartleby s desk closest to his own desk so that he could do his more important and urgent tasks. 16 I regarded Bartleby s response to the lawyer when asked to proofread documents as being as respectful as possible so that he wouldn t upset the ... This area, when exploited correctly, is a high growth and high margin beverage business. In early September 2007, Andrew Baker had his marching orders. The products were also produced differently to meet those needs (color, size, and height adjustment). Not only this could result in brand loyalty, but gave the company a strong market position and a unique brand image that nobody else could replace. Marketing, shifting and adjusting the products to meet the new target market was not a risk free decision, however, this alternative made it easier for prospective buyers to learn about riding and helping the growth of motorcycling industry (Trefis Team, 2015). The theories that will be looked at in order to provide a sufficient report for the judge on what caused Albert to enter a life of crime which culminated in his conviction for murder are; biological determinism, ecological determinism, subculture crime and conflict theories. Biological determinism One of the best known application of biological determinism in relation to crime is from Cesare Lombroso who Viewed criminals as suffering from a depravity caused by an atavistic reversion: In other words, through a regression to the early form of life found in Humans ape like ancestors. Lombroso believed that if a person had five or more stigmas then they will likely be atavistic and were born a criminal . A stigmata consisted of facial or bodily features that deviated from the norm, such as abnormally small or large ears. William Sheldon emerged biological and psychological factors of crime to link criminal behaviour with physical characteristics. William Sheldon claimed that there was a high correlation between an individual body build and there temperament. He found that Individuals mesomorphs or individuals who had muscular builds and tended to be more risk taking were more delinquent and criminal than others . This theory has however been questioned , most notably by Charles gong, where he compared criminals who were convicted of different offences with non criminals comprised of oxford and Cambridge undergraduates, hospital patients and soldiers. Dominant parties anticipate continued success while opposing political forces cannot confidently predict that either party will be in power. In this sense It is preferred to limit the majority. The first is the access to the court. one can array access to the court on a spectrum from very limited access, as in the original design of the Austrian model in 1920, in which only state and federal governments could bring cases, to the present design of the German Constitutional Court, where not only political bodies but individuals may enjoy direct access through constitutional petitions and ordinary judges may refer questions as well. (Ginsburg, Pg. 36). This is the most important factor of judicial review because without cases coming into a court there will be no court. If a court does not have cases being brought to it, it will not be able to expand in power. Judicial review has different effects in different societies. A good example is the American courts. Stare Decisis allows old law to stay in place while new law if put in place and followed. In a centralized system the court has the power to declare the laws unconstitutional and immediately void. • 21. Film Analysis American Psycho American Psycho (Mary Harron, 2000) is a film about a wealthy and materialistic Wall Street investment banker, Patrick Bateman. Bateman leads a double life as a serial killer and as the film progresses, his homicidal behaviours begin to take over his life making his psychotic nature evident to those around him. My need to engage in homicidal behaviour on a massive scale cannot be corrected, but I have no other way to fulfill my needs. Towards the end of the film, after breaking up with his fiancГ©, Evelyn you re not terribly important to me. Bateman is seen running through town like a maniac, since at this point in the film he is completely unhinged and out of touch with reality. He attempts to put a cat inside of the ATM machine that reads FEED ME A STRAY CAT. He then runs into a building to hide from the helicopters and make a call to his lawyer to confess all of his killings. Although this scene does not go extremely in depth about Bateman s psychopathic lifestyle, when analyzing it by looking at the dialogue/sound, the editng/variety of camera techniques and the mise en scГЁne it is easily recognizable. This scene is almost entirely sound which plays a significant role in the way it is viewed. The music quickly turns to sirens as Patrick shoots a lady, from then on Patrick s behaviour only begins to get crazier, kicking and hitting cars making alarms go off, the police stop him, and gun shots are heard followed by a large explosion. Every sound in this scene is meant to add more and more chaos so that the audience is engaged and full of adrenaline, being able to get a sense of the madness and intensity taking place and be in the moment with the characters. With the Delian League morphing into the Athenian Empire, the peace treaty was nulled and the Peloponnesian War began. The causes of the Peloponnesian War have often been debated, but centralize around the same idea. • 36. Sixteen Candles And The Breakfast Club Analysis In Sixteen Candles and The breakfast club we see so much in common as well as differences present. These 2 John Hughes movies were a big hit in the Directors career, as well as Pretty in Pink but we are not discussing that movie. In these movies we see a lot of themes crossed over that are explored in many different ways. One of the main characters for both these movies was Molly Ringwald; we really showed and expressed these ideals of her characters perfectly. There were many themes that we can compare and contrast these movies. The 4 main themes that I believe really made impacts on these shows are: rich vs. poor, popular or unpopular, changing to fit the norm , and Common similarities between social classes. Hughes is an amazing director that really captures these moments in each theme; he captures them and presents them at the most unexpected times in the movies that fit perfectly. In both Sixteen Candles and The breakfast club we are able to see how different scenarios how the rich vs. poor is important in these movies, social class play and important roles in each of these movies. In Sixteen Candles we see how everyone hangs out with people who fit in these ideals. Jake and Caroline are seen as the rich characters considering how they act when they are at the part. A second tour by Irving four years later produced an equally unsatisfactory mention in the Mail, prompting an outraged young Stoker to march into the offices of the newspaper and offer himself for the unpaid position of theater critic. He got the job, and as a result, when Irving (now a star of the London stage) returned to Dublin a third time, this time to star in Hamlet, Stoker had the opportunity to set down in print glowing praises of his favorite actor. Irving read the review and was delighted to the extent that he invited the young critic to supper at his hotel, and began a friendship that would last for almost thirty years. In the years between 1870 and 1877, Stoker, yielding to his father s wishes, followed him into a career as civil servant in Dublin Castle. However, Stoker maintained ties to Trinity College, returning there frequently to speak on a wide range of topics for the Philosophical Society. • 41. The Truth In David Eggers s The Circle By David Eggers In The Circle by David Eggers, all personal secrets are considered deception. Withholding the most insignificant opinion or experience is tantamount to a blatant lie. Therefore, the central character Mae deceives her viewers when she partakes in private conversations with her friend Annie. Eggers uses Mae s internal conflict over privacy and her eventual confession to express how idealism can delude an individual s morality. Mae s transparency causes her to discretely modify her behavior until she is no longer herself. She undergoes these slight behavior changes as a result of being watched by thousands every single day. After going transparent, she pays more attention to every little movement and decision she makes everything from what she eats to how she dresses. She makes these adjustments because being constantly surveilled makes her more self conscious and sensitive to other people s opinions. As a representative of the Circle to the whole entire world, she faces the pressure of presenting an image of perfection. This pressure to appear perfect every moment of every day results in the deterioration of both Mae s mental health and identity. However, the idealistic beliefs of the Circle prevent her from recognizing her new lifestyle as unhealthy. She convinces herself that being watched is a good kind of calibration for her personal habits. Her acceptance of the Circle infringing on every aspect of her life shows how Mae loses her personhood for the sake of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of Death In Anna Karenina Leo Tolstoy presents two extremely different deaths in Anna Karenina: one of a sickly brother losing his battle with illness, and one of a woman brimming with intricate complexities committing suicide because she does not feel like she has a purpose in her life. As Fyodor Dostoevsky asserts in his work evaluating the novel, In Anna Kareninais expressed a view of human guilt and criminality. People are portrayed in abnormal circumstances... caught in a whirl of deceit, people commit crime and fatally perish (Dostoevsky). Dostoevsky speaks to Tolstoy s ability to observe life and to portray that life to his audience, Tolstoy is able to put his characters in such vividly abnormal circumstances, that he is able to stir feelings of human guilt in the reader. While both deaths in the text vary extremely in terms of their contexts, Tolstoy juxtaposes the two deaths to comment on the natural humanity of death, to determine what it is about death that unites humanity and characterizes the human experience. Dostoevsky says that, based on Tolstoy s writing, It is clear and intelligible... that the human soul will remain identical (Dostoevsky). He is able to use Anna Karenina to show the identicality found in each human soul. In this time in Russia, Tolstoy shows that this commonality is found in a return to religion and it regret.
