God provided manna, or bread from heaven, to the Israelites as they traveled through the desert for 40 years. After reaching Mount Sinai, Moses received the Ten Commandments from God, renewing the covenant between God and the Israelites. However, the Israelites broke the first commandment by worshipping a golden calf idol. God forgave them when Moses asked, and restored the Ten Commandments which were kept in the Ark of the Covenant. The commandments establish rules for relationships with both God and others.
