This report documents the state of the art concerning the Cloud in education in partner countries across Europe. It describes policy perspectives, agencies and organisations promoting the Cloud in education, initiatives, projects and developments in different countries, it offers a list of relevant events and activities taking place in Europe, as well as key publications related to the project’s scope. The report indicates that the Cloud is developing rapidly in business but in many countries education has not recognised the advantages offered.

Abstract: "Audio or video podcasts can offer students different ways of learning and can add value by providing access to learning materials ‘on the move’. This paper presents an initial investigation into the use of excel podcasts for undergraduate and foundation level students in different faculties at a single university. The podcasts were shown in lecture and seminar settings and uploaded to an online server for all students to access in their own time; either via a web browser or portable video player such as an iPod. Results for the on-going study were positive with the majority of students using them for developing their understanding of excel and exam revision. Students expressed an interest in having similar supplementary learning materials for other modules. Such conclusions drawn from this study highlight the need to investigate the use of podcasts further in the teaching and learning environment. "

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Deltawerken 1954-1978 Deltadienst: bevorderde gerichte kennisontwikkeling en innovatie die direct werd toegepast. Samenwerking tussen Deltadienst, kennisinstituten, ir buro’s en universiteiten. Opnieuw: integraal beleid/beheer reeds toegepast, nu met aandacht voor natuurlijke systeem.
Joost heeft laten zien waarom we voor iTunes U gekozen hebben, ik wil graag laten zien hoe we het geïmplemeteerd hebben. De workflow in grote stappen. De colleges moeten worden opgenomen. Hierbij sluiten we aan bij een al bestaande workflow waarbij opnames gemaakt worden voor Collegerama. We streven er naar om per faculteit, per semester (7 weken) 3 collegereeksen op te nemen. Dit lukt aardig. We hebben nu > 4000 uur colleges liggen die deels toegankelijk zijn via het OpenCourseWare gedeelte vabn Collegerama. Veel materiaal is alleen toegankelijk voor de studenten die het college hebben bijgewoond (via Blackboard). Daarna converteren wij de opnames naar een formaat dat geschikt is als podcasts (mp3) en vodcasts (mp4). We voegen trailers toe. We maken beschrijvingen van de colleges in een gestandaardiseerd formaat, metadata. We laden de metadat en de bestanden in de repository van de TU We maken RSS-feeds van de metadata. Deze RSS-feeds worden gebruikt door iTunes U om het materiaal te toenen in de iTunes U store.
Educational Support = Onderwijs en studentenzaken Editorial phase = redactieslag (inhoudelijk en technisch) De redactieslag (staat niet op vorige pagina) is erg belangrijk. Hier wordt de technische en inhoudelijke kwaliteit gecontroleerd. Is het filmpje technisch goed (geluid/beeld) doet de docent geen uitspraken die De TU schade kan berokkenen en heeft de docent geen materiaal gebruikt waarop copyright rust.
Voorbeeld van een opname in Collegerama formaat. Andre Kuipers – astronaut – lezing over zijn ruimtereis. Mooie interface – spreker en presentatie apart in beeld. Ingang via slides. Nadeel: streaming formaat, je moet een snelle internet verbinding hebben om dit te kunnen afspelen.
Na de conversie naar mp4 formaat ziet het er als volgt uit. Uiteraard treedt hierbij enig kwaliteitsverlies op, de mimiek van de spreker raak je kwijt, maar het resultaat is – vinden wij – bruikbaar/acceptabel. Het geluid blijft perfect.
Na conversie voegen we een trailer toe, en we sluiten af met een Creative Commons-licentie disclaimer. Naamsvermelding Niet commercieel Gelijk delen
Voordat je van slag gaat, moet je een aantal zaken geregeld hebben. Aan de kant van iTunes: homepage ontwerpen, structuur van je data, pagina’s ontwerpen voor je colleges. Een pagina per collegereeks. Dat is relatief eenvoudig omdat je gebruik kunt maken van de tools die Apple hiervoor beschikbaar heeft. Het meeste werk is het bedenken van de structuur en het verzamelen van het beeldmateriaal en algemene info over het college. Aan de kant van de TU Delft: je hebt een omgeving nodig waarin je de bestanden kunt opslaan (materiaal staat dus niet bij Apple) en je moet een pagina maken In je website met informatie over i|Tunes + links naar iTunes.

Dit is de pagina die wij op iTunes gemaakt hebben De hoofdstructuur is in drie groepen verdeeld. Een groep met onze engineering challenges (speerpunt onderzoek) Colleges Campus life met voorlichtingsmateriaal, studenten projecten etc. Wee hebben de colleges niet ingedeeld op faculteiten, omdat deze namen buiten Nederland (en wellicht buiten delft) niet altijd bekend zijn. Bijv. de faculteit 3ME Mechanical, maritime, materials engineering (werktuigbouwkunde, maritieme techniek materiaalwetenschappen) We hebben gekozen voor meer algemene termen. FOUT: eerst alle groepen ontwerpen en dan tot de conclusie komen dat je voor veel groepen nog geen materiaal hebt.
Dit is een course pagina oftewel een college pagina. Het bovenste gedeelte moet je maken. Het onderste gedeelte wordt gevuld vanuit RSS-feeds. Zodra je dit eenmaal op orde hebt, kun je de pagina vullen vanuit de RSS-feeds.
We slaan al het materiaal op in een repository. Deze gaat binnenkort bij ons in productie. Hier zit al het materiaal in dat ook in iTunes zit + meer.
Je kunt het filmpje hier embedded afspelen (of full screen) maar je kunt hier ook de mp4 bestanden downloaden.
Dat geld ook voor de podcasts. Interview over energie met Ivo Opstelten.
Gemiddelde grootte van een gedownload bestand: 53 Mb Statistieken tussen nu en 14 maart. Extreem veel downloads. Telefoontje van computer centrum.
Meeste bestandne worden via de computer binnengehaald, maar toch nog altijd 8,2 % rechtstreeks op de iPhone. Ik hoop dat ze wifi gebruiken want sommige bestanden zijn 400 MB groot.
