2. BACKGROUND
It is a viral illness
Caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV)
From herpes virus family
Symptoms lasting from 3 to 4 weeks
More frequent in white people and higher socioeconomic groups
Complications : glomerulonephritis, pericarditis, hepatitis
meningitis, encephalitis and Pneumonia

4. ON EXAMINATION
Red throat with exudate
Red macular rash
Petechiae on palate
Tender lymphadenopathy (cervical node)
Abdominal tenderness (splenomegaly)

7. DIAGNOSTIC
*Heterothallic antibody titre (Monospot): Serum test after 5
days of onset of symptoms, Antibodies will be produced
in response to mono virus antigens.
* Throat culture: for bacterial infection.

8. MANAGEMENT
Medications
Analgesics
Corticosteroids

9. MANAGEMENT
No need for isolation
Avoid kissing on mouth
Warm salt water gargle
Do not donate blood for 6 months
