The Success Of The Buffalo Bills Essay
Everyone has a specific skill set that they are good at. Some people are good with
numbers, others have a gift for writing. The same is true in sports. The Buffalo Bills
are very good at losing and disappointing their fans, while the Patriots are fantastic at
bending the rules and winning Super Bowls. In baseball, each team is built around a
specific group of players in order to create the best possible chance to win the
World Series. Some of the greatest players have created seemingly unbreakable
statistics. Joe DiMaggio had a hit in fifty six consecutive games. Barry Bonds hit
seven hundred and sixty two home runs over his twenty two year career. Statistics
like these only come about once in a generation. Teams are comprised of various
talent. Some are like Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera always has a batting averageover .300
with at least 25 home runs. These types of players are considered great hitters.
Other s, like Stephan Drew, get a hit less than 20% of the time they have an at bat.
Players similar to Drew s skill set have a job because they are very good at defense
and their value on defense out ways their value on offense to their specific team.
Baseball is sport rich with statistics. Almost anything one can come up with, has a
statistic. In the last ten years alone, top executives, such as Billy Bean, have
constructed teams based on advanced statistics and have been fairly successful, like
the 2002 Oakland Athletics. Other teams, like the Houston Astros,
Cheer Coaches Research Paper
For my 20 time project I choose to go in a direction of cheer, growing up i ve
wanted to be a cheer coach so I found the perfect project to coach tumbling to a
younger girl, Mere that looks up to me. I want to be a role model and have a
different coach approach see what works and what doesn t. Through this I wanted
to grow in tumbling techniques and what my coaches and all coaches do. I spent a
good amount of time researching coach outlines and practice stuff from other
coaches. Talking to coaches I know and thinking more at my own practices what
they do. I found some good people that were helpful my cheer coaches and my mom
who is close to many cheer coaches and me she listened to me and gave me advice.
When we started I did research and got organized, I had trouble finding a way to set
my practices up. I ended up looking at a couple other coaches and made my own and
followed it as close as I could and change what I needed to. Each week I researched
coaching techniques and made 1 to 2 lesson plans and researched about the plan. For
example when we did split handstand I looked up pictures, how to s and videos so I
could show the girl Mere what she was doing also so I could explain why we are
learning this. Each week I tried to to 1 to 2 practices. I ... Show more content on

Marc Antony And The Roman Empire
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Caesar, not to
praise him. These famous words were spoken by Marc Antony at Julius Caesar s
funeral as if to solidify that Caesar has passed and the Romans should look forward
without nostalgia of gone by emperors. Marc Antony was a leader in the change of
the Roman Republic into the Roman Empirethat spanned thousands of miles in its
prime. Born in January of 83 BC to the gens Antonia, which was a prominent family
with both patrician and plebeian ties. His father was Marcus Antonius Creticus, and
his mother was Julia Antonia, a distant relative to Julius Caesar. (Life of Antonius
4.263). Growing up Antony had many misfortunes with his father dying in Crete in

During this campaign through Egypt Antony came to meet Cleopatra for the first
time, who at the time was the 14 year old daughter of Ptolemy XII, it was believed
that this meeting between the two is what sparked Antony s love and desire for
Cleopatra. While Antony was fighting in the East he was unaware of plot by the
First Triumvirate to take control of the Republic. Once the Triumvirate had
basically taken over the Republic for themselves Antony came to serve under
Julius Caesar in 54 BC. At this time Caesar was in the middle of his conquest of
Gaul during the Gallic Wars. While under Caesar Antony was noted as an
excellent military leader and strategist, because of this Caesar took notice of
Antony and the two became friends until Caesar died. After years in the conquest
of Gaul Antony was sent back to Rome to begin his political career as Quaestor in
52 BC as a member of the Populares faction. However, still assigned to Caesar s
force Antony returned to Gaul to command the cavalry in the Battle of Alesia against
the Gallic High King Vercingetorix. Antony was eventually promoted to Legate by
Caesar and given command of two legions. While all of this was happening for

are acquired through conditioning. Conditioning occurs through interaction with the
environment. Behaviorists believe that our responses to environmental stimuli shape
our behaviors. Observeable behavior Psychoanalysis emphasized the influence of the
unconscious mind on behavior. Freud believed that the human mind was composed
of three elements: the id, the ego, and the superego. Humanistic psychology
humanistic psychology began as a reaction to psychoanalysis and behaviorism, which
dominated psychology at the time. Psychoanalysis was focused on understanding the
unconscious motivations that drive behavior while behaviorism studied the
conditioning processes that produce behavior. Humanist thinkers felt that both
psychoanalysis and behaviorism were too pessimistic, either focusing on the most
tragic of emotions or failing to take into account the role of personal choice.
Humanistic psychology was instead focused on each individual s potential and
stressed the importance of growth and self actualization. The fundamental belief of
humanistic psychology is that people are innately good and that mental and social
problems result from deviations from this natural tendency. Cognitive psychology the

Sprint And T-Mobile Merger Analysis
Many companies in the United States are struggling to survive. These companies are
experiencing significant decreases in revenue, reduced assets, and increases in
liabilities. Companies that already filed, or are at risk for filing bankruptcy are
struggling with keeping up with their competitors, causing the companies to lose their
value. When a company files for bankruptcy, the company no longer gets to make the
business decisions. The bankruptcy courts begin to make the decisions for the
companies in efforts to restore the businesses. If the company is unable to revive
itself from bankruptcy status, the company goes out of business. If this occurs, the
company must sell everything it owns in order to compensate its shareholders and

Pericles Lion And The Sea-Onion Analysis
he Lion and the Sea Onion. Most self respecting artists would pick the former as the
subject for a monument and dismiss the latter. Yet, the man behind the moniker of
Sea Onion cannot be so easily dismissed. Pericles, the great Athenian statesman, was
nicknamed
Schinocephalos
, or Sea Onion, by contemporary poets because of the large size of his head ( Pericles
, History.com). The Lion of Justice, in this case, refers to King Henry II of England(
King Henry II Biography ). On the surface, both Henry II and Pericles appear to be
equally great leaders who made lasting impact on Western civilizations. Henry II
established the English Common Law, which ensured the same laws applied
everywhere in the country (Hinds 60). He also laid the foundation for a unified
Britain by claiming Scotland and Ireland as parts of his realm (Morgan 143).
Pericles united the Greek city states into an empire known as the Delian League with
Athens at its center ( Pericles , University Press Inc). Under his leadership and
patronage, arts, literature, and philosophy flourished, creating a cultural legacy that
shaped all areas of Western thinking. Pericles also led the restoration of the
Acropolis and the ambitious construction of the Parthenon (Nardo 10). But looking
beyond their accomplishments, these two historical figures differ greatly in their
motivations and personal conducts. Arguably, two of the most essential traits of a
good leader are integrity and dedication to the common good. Using these qualities
as a metric for comparison, we will see that Henry II falls short while Pericles is
clearly deserving of a monument in his honor
.
Both Henry II and Pericles were highly driven and ambitious. But while Henry was
fueled by the desire to glorify himself and his reign, Pericles wished to glorify
Athens and its people. Henry II wanted to reclaim lands that were previously under
his grandfather s rule. He used force and threats to claim lordship over Wales,
Scotland, and Ireland (Hinds 12). In his mind, it was his birthright. As a general and
statesman, Pericles also helped reclaim land (noticeably Delphi) for Athens ( Pericles
, Bio). But rather than conquering neighboring poleis
, Pericles chose to focus on making Athens a city
The Impact Of The League Of Nations
The League of Nations was created after World War I to establish a body where the
nations of the world could settle their disagreements and come up with solutions to
help improve the world. The United Nations was created shortly after World War II
and set out to achieve what the League of Nations could not. The League of Nations
was not successful in helping the world achieve what was necessary at the time it was
established. When viewed through society, the innovation of the United Nationshad a
greater impact on the modern world than the innovation of the League of Nations.

Also, policies were made to help people in poverty and this has increased economic
development. The United Nations created the International Fund for Agricultural
Development to provide loans to rural people and countries. This was to help
families get back on their feet and create a stable income. IFAD has invested more
than $15 billion, helping more than 430 million women and men, (Worldmark). The
International Fund for Agricultural Development supports more than 240 programs
to help people in developing countries and areas. IFAD cannot go around to every
rural area and help at the same time, this is why they created other programs to help.
Also, in over 147 countries projects were started to continue the decrease of poverty
and to lend a helping hand. Another organization the United Nations created was the
Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN. 815 million people still suffer from
chronic hunger, (United). This organization made sure everyone had regular access
to enough food. The organization realized that there was a sufficient amount of space
in the world to produce enough food to feed everybody. One of the organization s
major goals was to increase the agriculture sector due to population increase. Most
growth occurs in the areas of the world that mostly depend on agriculture. Due to this,
the organization wants to

The Four Noble Truths And The Noble Eightfold Path
Mindfulness origin starts in Buddhism, according to, Bodhi, 1984, p. 1, (Gilbert, B.
D., 2011) it focusses on two main points that include The Fourth Noble Truths and
The Noble Eightfold Path. The four noble truths include noble truth of suffering, the
noble truth of the origin of suffering, noble truth of extinction of suffering, and the
noble truth of the path that leads to the extinction of suffering stated by Jotika
Dhamminda (1986) and Nyantiloka (2001), (Gilbert, B.D., 2011). Though being
mindfulness is being conscious that as humans it will most likely experience painful
events through the lifespan of an individual. However, being mindful includes living
in the present moment by being aware of the thoughts that cross the mind by
How Did Guernica Change
Guernica is named after a village in Spain. In 1937, Picasso got his inspiration for
creating this painting after Guernica was bombed by German and Italian planes.
Thousands of deadly bombs were dropped over Guernica that left this small village
in ruins. Thousands of people were killed and injured. And the fires created by the
bombs destroyed 70 percent of Guernica.
Prior to the bombing of Guernica, Picasso was in the process of creating another
piece of art for the Paris Exhibition, but after hearing the horrific news about the
bombing of Guernica, Picasso changed his course, and started working on a new
mural titled Guernica. Guernica was ordered by the Republic of Spain. Picasso s
painting demonstrates his interpretation of the
Are Footballers Paid Too Much Essay
Are Footballers Really Paid Too Much?
England international Wayne Rooney is paid ВЈ300,000 a week whereas doctors are
paid the same amount each year. However, in my opinion footballers are paid the
right amount because they provide entertainment for the public worldwide and help
people who are less fortunate.
Firstly, huge footballing fans pay thousands of pounds every season to see their
favourite team play week in week out. They must be paying a huge amount of
money every season because they want to be entertained or else they would watch
the games from home. Instead they spend a lot of money and go to the stadium
whether it is a capital one cup game or a league game. This is because the
atmosphere at the stadium is a different experience in its self because all the
spectators are singing chants and motivating the team to do well and score a goal.
They pay a lot of money because they might want to see their favourite player. If
your role model was visiting your town or city would you not pay to see them
whether they are performing live at an arena or have just come for a meet and
greet. This is the same for a footballing fan they pay to see their favourite player or
role model. Also if you want to watch football at home you have to pay for Sky Sports

It s the same for footballers most of them are naturally gifted and talented, they
then train and train to become better. After years of practice they are then scouted
and go to a professional club for trials and if they are then good enough they will be
given a short term contract. Becoming a footballer is not as easy as it looks in fact it
is a very long and stressful process. Also footballers are on a very low wage at the
start of their career and if they then progress and have a big money transfer they are
then paid a higher
I Was A New Friend
Prior to this semester, the concept of diversity hardly crossed my mind, and when
it did I never took it seriously. Freshman year, when my friends and I would sit out
on the yard on sunny days we would joke about how we d make the perfect
photograph for a Xavier brochure because how diverse our group was. And it was
pretty diverse. Every major region was covered. At other times, I was very
interested in gender diversity; I attended multiple young women leadership
programs in high school, but I never felt like I was being affected by being a
female. Recently diversity has started to affect me more; coincidently or not, it
paired up with class fairly well. In the beginning of the year, I was highly involved
in the E/RS events concerning race. Then a mentor of mine struggled with her job;
she is pregnant but her work does not offer maternity leave. Furthermore, I made a
new friend this year that is in a wheelchair. I learned that like most places, Xavier is
not very handicap accessible. As for myself, I learned how to own my privilege. I
associate as a white, abled bodied, heterosexual, middle class, young adult, female.
I have dealt with very little issues. I struggle with my race and ethnicity. I classify
my race as white and my ethnicity as Portuguese. But the US government lumps
Portuguese with Latinos/Hispanics, which always confused me growing up. I
disliked that I was being grouped and labeled. In high school, all of the diverse kids
junior and senior year were
Construction Of An Underground Network Of Tunnels
Introduction
In the 1850s over 400,000 tonnes of waste and sewage was being discharged into
the River Thames each day. By 1858 the stench from the raw sewage around and
within the Thames was named the Great Stink . It was a Civil Engineer named
Joseph Bazalgette who proposed a plan of the creation of an underground network of
tunnels, to put an end to the polluted river. His engineering feat has been improved
and extended vastly but the Victorian Sewers still stand as London s primary sewer
system. The sewers were designed to be a combined system meaning rainwater and
waste were transported in the same manner. Bazalgette designed Combined Sewage
Overflow (CSO) points along the Thames. The CSO s discharged the sewage and
rainwater into the Thames after substantial rainfall, this prevented flooding the
streets and houses. When designing the sewers, population increase was taken into
consideration. (16) The underground system and factories were designed to treat
and transfer sewage of up to double the population that was present when
construction began. However the population of London almost quadrupled from
2.35 Million in 1850 (19) to 8.17 million in 2011(7). This drastic increase meant
that the sewers were overloaded. The CSO s were overflowing with only 2mm of
rainfall and on average discharging into the Thames around twice a week. The head
of Thames Water Phil stride, said Currently, 32 million cubic metres of storm sewage
overflows from London s Victorian sewers into
Argumentative Essay On Salmon Farming
Arguing to Persuade Essay Between 2000 and 2004 Americans alone consumed
284,000 tons of salmon annually. Two thirds of that was farmed (Alaska, n.d.).
Salmon is a widely loved and accepted from of protein; however, it may not be as
wonderful as people believe. Consider your idea of a fish farm, what do you see? If
you are like most people, you are picturing a perfect environment where fishswim
together in clear water being fed pellets by a local fish farmer in waders. This is a lie.
The reality is that up to 2 million salmonare packed into tiny cages where the
stressed fish desperately try to find some relief by jumping out of the water
(Mercola, 2016). What is worse is that up to a quarter of the fish in any given salmon

Parasites known as sea lice are contracted by farmed salmon living in cramped
conditions and passed to wild stocks where they run rampant (Naylor, Eagle, Smith,
2003). Normally, they would be subdued in natural populations because the parasite
cannot survive when the salmon return to fresh water. Equally detrimental are the
chemicals used in salmon farming such as spawning hormones, antibiotics, and
parasiticides that are subsequently released into the environment (Naylor, Eagle,
Smith). Next, these authors warn that salmon have been known to escape from pens
because of human error, predation, and storms. The farm escapees compete with
wild species for the best food and mates. They often win, killing the native species
(Naylor, Eagle, Smith). There are many prevalent issue surrounding the cages used to
farm salmon. The fact that they are open net means that everything that happens
inside the net gets released or transmitted into the open ocean. This is particularly
important when talking about parasites, diseases, and chemicals because these all
affect wild fish that we are trying to preserve by growing farmed salmon. Another
way that open nets affect the ocean is through predation. Marine mammals are
attracted to salmon farms because the open nets appear to be a normal school of
salmon (Naylor, Eagle, Smith). When these natural predators, including seals, sea
lions, and porpoises, get close to the nets, they are either shot by farmers protecting
their salmon or become entangled in the nets and drown (Naylor, Eagle, Smith). Not
only do open cages allow for the release of toxic elements into the ocean, they also
encourage marine mammals to prey on salmon, causing their inevitable death. The
last and most important way that salmon farming affects the
Samuel Johnson Research Paper
Samuel Johnson s Influential Dictionary In order to provide a sufficient response to
this intriguing inquiry, one should acknowledge the influential milestones of the
Early Modern English period (c.1450 1750) that laid the groundwork for the
emergence of Samuel Johnson s invaluable dictionary. On the top of that list is the
evolution of the English Renaissancewhich is often referred to as the Elizabethan Era
or the Age of Shakespeare after the most significant monarch and notable dramatist of
that memorable era. Another remarkable occurrence is the British exploration,
colonization, and overseas trade which hastened the English language s acquisition of
loanwords. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the glorious union of Englandand
Scotland took place at that time while English acquired a typographic... Show more

However, this era did have its downsides as well as its advantages. Thier only relevant
disadvantage which is worth mentioning in this paper is that Latin and French were
the dominant languages of school curriculums and the government. Therefore,
English was not only faced with derogatory attitudes but it was also regarded as the
vernacular of that age until the end of the sixteenth century where a more favorable
view of it began to emerge. Notably, the tables were turned and English became the
universally authorized language of the regime and the prevailing academic disciplines
such as philosophy, medicine, law, and theology due to the fact that the role of the
dominant languages extremely declined. As a consequence, the most remarkable
breakthrough occurred in the middle of the 18th century which was the publication of
Samuel Johnson s dictionary. Indeed, A Dictionary of the English Language is the
first lexicographical work to be viewed as an ideal model for all lexicographers (this
term is used to refer to dictionary writers who occupy themselves with tracing the
origins of the language and detailing both the
Integrative Approaches To Psychology And Christianity...
Entwistle (2015) discusses the philosophical, historical, and practical approach to
integrating psychology and Christianity in his book, Integrative Approaches to
Psychology and Christianity. The author proposes that psychology and Christianity
are ultimately creations of a Sovereign God designed to give complementary
enlightenment to mankind for worshiping God and to care for the suffering.
Integration is defined as ...a multi faceted attempt to discern the underlying truths
about the nature and functioning of human beings from the unique vantage points of
psychology (in its various subdisciplines, utilizing diverse methodologies) and
Christianity (in theology, faith, and practice) (pp. 260 261, italics in original).
Psychology discerns truth through empirical means through the scientific process of
hypothesizing and testing. The author describes it as a study of the book of God s
Works . As a discipline, it focuses on methological naturalism, which canonizes only
what may be empirically tested. Theology is the discernment of truth through the
interpretation of God s Word, and of reason. As a discipline, it focuses on the
supernatural and morality, how man ought to live, not simply how man does live.
Psychology as a science, emerged in Europe during the nineteenth century from
modernism philosophy, in a world where science and religious establishment had a
history of conflict. Entwistle notes that the ...rise of science represented a shift in

individual would take the amount of expenses from both 2015 and 2015 and divide
the amount spend in in the year 2013 from these numbers to get the ratio of increase.

Phases Of Feature Selection Methods
Subset search algorithms explore through candidate feature subsets achieved by a
certain evaluation measure, those are excellent at capturing the benefaction of each

from feature space for describing target interpretations (conceptions) of the learning
processes. The phases in the process of feature selectionare given as follows: 1.
Starting Point, 2. Search Strategy, 3. Subset Evaluation, 4. Stopping Criteria. Based

Difference between those measured distances has used as the weight of the target
feature. This basic algorithm was extracted into several variants. I RELIEF approach
reduces the biasness of original RELIEF method. Conditional Mutual Information
Maximization (CMIM) is the one that chooses a feature subset that has maximum
relevance to the target class by using conditional mutual information. CMIM requires
both the feature values and output classes to be binary (Diman Todorov et.al,2014).
Correlation Coefficient approach evaluates how well an individual feature
contributes to the separation of classes. Ranking criteria is used to rank all features
using their mean and standard deviation for all the samples of both classes. The
correlation coefficient is successfully reduced the number of features and also kept
good classification accuracy (Zong Xia et.al,2006).
Between Within Ratio (BW ratio) uses the ratio between group to within group sums
of squares for each feature, and select feature with maximum BW ratio. A single
variable can be considered irrelevant based on its correlation to the class, but when
combines with other features in the feature space, it becomes very relevant (Z. Zhao
et.al, 2007).
Genetic Algorithm is a randomized approach. It is a class of evolutionary algorithms

Udacity Course Analysis
In 2011, Stanford professor Sebastian Thrun and research assistant David Stavens
founded Udacity, a for profit platform on which MOOCs (massive open online
courses) would be offered. One of their first classes, CS 373: Programming a Robotic
Car, attracted 160,000 students across 190 countries. In simple terms of enrollment
and global reach, Udacity was an instant success. Perhaps more importantly, Udacity
showed the incredible potential of an online platform that can provide higher
educationto those lacking the resources traditionally required to obtain it. In terms
of sheer numbers, Udacity is not the only example of the success and popularity of
MOOCs. According to a survey conducted by Harvard Business Review in 2015,
over 25 million people have enrolled in a MOOC. This number outpaces the 20.5

The answer is simple. They hold many advantages over the traditional mode of
education. For example, the issues of location and language are almost nonexistent
when it comes to MOOCs. Since they are offered online, the courses can be taken
from any location, at any time, and lectures offered by the popular platforms usually
have subtitles available in a multitude of languages. In The Professors Big Stage,
journalist and author Thomas Friedman detailed his friend Michael Sandel s
experience as a MOOC professor. Sandel, who teaches a famous 1,000 student,
Socratic Justice course at Harvard, launched his course on edX, a MOOC
cofounded by MIT and Harvard, in 2013. Sandel had returned from a recent trip to
South Korea, where his course had been translated and broadcast on national
television. The course became so popular that Sandel was asked to throw out a
ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game and was given a free pair of colorful
sneakers. Not only was Sandel able to reach a large international audience, his class

John Wycliffe Research Paper
The Morning Star of Inspiration
John Wycliffe was a 14th century English philosopher, theologian, and religious
reformer, whose egalitarian ideas and beliefs laid the foundation for the Protestant
Reformation. As Peter W. Williams notes in the World Book Advanced, Wycliffe
was born sometime between 1320 and 1330 A.D. in Yorkshire, England, and was
educated at Balliol College, University of Oxford (Williams). According to
Alessandro Conti in his entry in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, John
Wycliffe was trained in the scholasticism of the medieval Roman Catholic Church,
and became disillusioned with ecclesiastical abuses (Conti). He challenged the
Church s spiritual authority and sponsored the translation of the Christian ... Show

In addition, LaTourette notes that Wycliffe said any leader who was found to be
faithless could legitimately loose his office as well as his privileges (663). In his
essays On Divine Dominion and On Civil Dominion, Wycliffe wrote the following:
Men hold whatever they had received from God as stewards, and if found faithless,
could justly be deprived of it; and If through transgression a man forfeited his
divine privileges, then of necessity his temporal possessions were also lost.
Wycliffe also maintained that sinful preachers and bishops could be outside of God
s law, and believed that There was a chance that Popes might err and that popes were
not a necessary element for the administration of the Church (LaTourette 663).
Malcolm D. Lambert, writer of Medieval Heresy: Popular Movements from the
Gregorian Reform to the Reformation, states that John Wycliffe claimed, a worldly
Pope was to be proclaimed a heretic and should be removed from office (7).
Wycliffe did not state explicitly that he considered the English church to be sinful
and worldly, but his implication was clear, and on May 22, 1377, Pope Gregory
XI issued several bills accusing Wycliffe of heresy (Williams). In autumn of the
same year, however, Parliament requested Wycliffe s opinion on the legality of
forbidding the English church to ship its riches abroad at the Pope s command
(Smyth). Wycliffe upheld the lawfulness of such a prohibition, and in early 1378, he

Fraud can occur in many ways, either through the loss of a credit card or through
other fraudulent applications by the perpetrator. We also describe the perpetrators
along with some characteristics common to fraudsters. The hope in this paper is to
build more awareness to the reader about this growing problem and to offer insight
which will aid individuals and merchants from becoming victims of credit card fraud.
Statistics from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) show that
credit card fraud has reached the $1 billion mark and is growing. By the end of
2007, it is expected to reach the $3 billion mark in the US alone ([4] ACFE, 2007,
p. 1.104). The availability of shopping over the internet has raised new concerns.
Internet shopping continues to grow and there has been a 22 percent increase in
spending in 2005 as compared to spending in 2004 ([4] ACFE, 2007, p. 1.104).
Total internet spending has reached $143.2 billion in 2005 and surveys have shown
that about 90 percent of all internet purchases are paid online with a credit card.
Fraud occurs on approximately 5 percent of all internet purchases. What makes the
internet so susceptible to fraud is the lack of face to face interaction with the
fraudster, which allows for more anonymity and makes prevention and detection more
difficult. During 2006, there were 207,492 complaints filed online with the Internet
Crime Complaint Center [18] IC3 (2006, p. 3). During 2006, internet auction
The Legal Treatment Of Interns
Over the past five years there have been major developments in the legal treatment of
interns which have driven significant changes in the way companies approach
internship programs. In 2010, the Department of Labor issued Fact Sheet #71, which
provided guidelines as to the application of the Fair Labor Standards Act to
internships. Most notable was the requirement that a sponsor of an unpaid internship
may derive no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern(United Stated
Department of Labor, 2010). These standards were subsequently adopted by courts in
litigation over unfair labor practices in internship programs. According to Lorenz
Thomas (2015), there is widespread opinion that this means an unpaid intern cannot...

Internships can no longer be considered a laissez faire practice. The practical effect is
that there is little meaningful distinction in today s environment between an intern
who performs productive work, and an employee. These external legal factors suggest
that internships in the future may be, in part, a way of managing what Ivancevic,
Konopaske, Matteson refer to as the psychological contract (Ivancevich, Konopaske,
Matteson, 2014, p. 133). In other words, interns may be treated as employees in the
current legal environment, but remain interns for the purposes of employer/employee
expectations as to things like long term employment prospects and compensation.
Employers can no longer view interns as a source of free labor. Employers must be
prepared to commit more resources to their internship programs if they want to keep
them, without being sued. At the same time, employers can use internship programs
as a way of recruiting and training potential employees without the same level of
commitment as full time employees. Even so, the increased risk and resource
requirements attached to internship programs are likely to lead to greater employer
expectations as to intern performance. Based on this analysis of the external trends in
internship program practices, any internship program should be fully committed to
complying with all worker protection and labor laws. Companies should clearly
communicate their expectations to prospective
How Did Mesopotamians Study Astronomy
A
Astronomy
Mesopotamians started studying astronomy, which is the science of stars, planets and
space as early as 7,985 BC. As Mesopotamians studied astronomy they started forming
beliefs about astrological culture. They started the belief of creationism, the belief
that a divine being(s) created the universe and everything in it.
Astronomy started many beliefs that we have today such as creationism.
Mesopotamians believed that many gods controlled life. They believed that Enki
was the God of water, and that he controls the flow of the Euphrates and Tigris, on
which Mesopotamians relied on for survival.

Introduction
By the first century BC, the Rome had become a Pan Mediterranean Empire. Its
imperial apparatus spanned from Britain to Egypt and included a diverse body of
peoples. The Romans inherited in their eastern provinces a world with a long
tradition of cities and urbanism.1 Cities were a major factor in how the Roman Empire
governed, and cities formed a traditional locus of social, political, and economic
organization. Thoughts on cities during the second century AD continued to be seen
as important hubs of society within the Roman Empire. By the middle of

The Second Sophistic and Aelius Aristides
Despite being separated by over five years, Greek writers of the Second Sophistic
discussed themes of Classical Greece with a sense of immediacy. The early third
century writer
Philostratus coined the term Second Sophistic (ОґОµПЌП„ОµПЃО±
ПѓОїП†О№ПѓП„О№ОєО®) to describe type of oratory practiced by Attic orators
in the fourth century BC, most notably Aeschines.3 Education, or paideia, is seen
as a defining characteristic of the Second Sophistic, and as stated above, is most
associated with oratory and rhetoric.4 Paideia was a cultural category, though one
not completely detached from ethnicity, as Adam Kemezis has argued, but it was a
shared system of reference and expectation, according to Goldhill.5 What is most
important, however, is that paideia was a pursuit reserved for men in the elite
classes, and Aristides embodies a man of such standing and cultural training.6
Adam Kemezis defined the Second Sophistic as a technical term generally used to
refer both to a body of writings and to a set of cultural practices of which those
writings were a part. 7 Simon Goldhill has pointed to the various problems with the
term, namely that there existed no uniform agenda of the writers, the lack of an
agreed upon group of genres, and a
Mercantilism Analysis
Adam Smith and David Hume were the founding fathers of anti mercantilist thought.
There were number of scholars who found many limitation of mercantilism even
before Adam Smith developed his theory that could fully substitute it. The criticism
made by Dudley North, David Hume, and John Locke eroded much of mercantilism
and because of which it uncertainly lost its favour during the 18th century. In the
year 1969, John Locke made an agreement that prices differ in proportion to the
quantity of money. The second treatise made by John Locke also pointed out towards
the heart of the anti mercantilist, the critique was that the wealth of the world is not
fixed, but is created by human labor (represented by John Locke in his unformed labor

Adam Smith noted at the core of the mercantile system was the, popular folly of
confusing wealth with money, bullion was just same as other any commodity, so
there was no reason to give it any special treatment. . More recently, scholars have
discounted the accuracy of this critique. They believe Mun and Misselden were not
making this mistake in the 1620s, and point to their followers Josiah Child and
Charles Davenant, who, in 1699, wrote: Gold and Silver are indeed the Measure of
Trade, but that the Spring and Original of it, in all nations is the Natural or Artificial
Product of the Country; that is to say, what this Land or what this Labour and
Industry Produces. The critique that mercantilism was a form of rent seeking has also
seen criticism, as scholars such Jacob Viner in the 1930s point out that merchant
mercantilists such as Mun understood that they would not gain by higher prices for
English wares abroad.
The first school to completely reject mercantilism was the physiocrats, who
developed their theories in France. Their theories also had several important
problems, and the replacement of mercantilism did not come until Adam Smith
published The Wealth of Nations in 1776. This book outlines the basics of what is
today known as classical economics. Smith spends a considerable portion of the book
rebutting the arguments of the mercantilists,
Elements Of Giselle
Raising the Barre As one of the few ballets that has been performed continuously
for centuries, Giselle has become one of the most renowned ballets of all time.
Giselle was conceived in 1841 by Gautier specifically for the famous ballerina of
the Paris Opera Ballet, Carlotta Grisi. This ballet was a product of the thriving
creativity of the 19th century. The classic story tells of a young girl, Giselle, who has
caught the eye of two men. As the balletprogresses, Giselle falls in love with one of
the men, only to have her heart broken. Because she is weak in health, Giselle dies
of heart break and is to become one of the Wilis, a clan of ghostly women who haunt
men from beyond their graves. It is obvious that Giselle is from the Romantic era
because of the many identifying elements that connect it to Romanticismas well as the
historical influences and gender roles that are reflected in the ballet s story. Many
elements most commonly associated with Giselle include white romantic tutus, the
daunting Wilis, or light, captivating gracefulness of the dancing. This particular ballet
has always been easy to identify because of the specific qualities it possesses.
Watching Giselle, audiences are always drawn to the charming, gentle nature of
Giselle, despite how technically difficult the steps are. In her famous variation from
the first act, Giselle completes thirty ballonnГ©s en pointewith great ease.
Furthermore, the eery synchronicity and solemn countenance of the Wilis is
The Efficacy of Patient-Controlled Analgesia
The practice of patient controlled analgesia (PCA) has been around for
approximately four decades now. During this time there have been improvements to
the technology and the understanding of how to use this form of patient pain
control; however, there continues to be concern related to the safety and efficacy
of PCA. As this analysis proceeds it will briefly explain what PCA is and how it is
used, then delve into the benefits and the safety issues surrounding PCA use as it
pertains to the patient and the nurse. Some of the benefits of PCA include improved
painmanagement, improved use of nursing resources, increased patient satisfaction,

Only patient activation of their infusion pump allows for this fundamental
safeguard to come into play. Later in this paper we will discuss the safety issues
related to the activation of a PCA infusion pump by someone other than the patient,
a practice called PCA by proxy. Although there appears to be significant benefits to
the use of PCA infusion pumps, there are significant safety issues arising from the
use of PCA infusion pumps that can cause severe harm and potentially even death.
Some of these safety issues include infusion pump programming errors, basal
infusion of opioids, and PCA by proxy. A leading type of error identified in doing
harm to PCA patients is the improper dosage or quantity of analgesic medication
(Hicks et al, 2008). This sort of error took place on a patient returning to a hospital for
postoperative pain management following a recent surgical procedure. The nurse was
given an order to manage the patient s pain with hydromorphone administered via

concentration of the medication from 1mg/ml to 0.3mg/ml, thus leading to errors in

The research logically proved that if a person was farther away from the radiation,

Unlike high dose of gamma radiation, a small dose of radiation had a significant

gamma radiation negatively affected the health because the accidental Ir 192

capitalism have been compared on many levels, such as why they will or will not

This is the theory of a free market, based on supply and demand to take care of the
consumer welfare. Capitalism gives people the freedom to do as they wish, and
allows them the opportunities to work to gain great wealth, or to just survive in the
society. While communism sets direct demandson the work you do and what you
need to produce, so others can benefit as well as you from your hard work.
There are many different outcomes and problems that can occur as a result of the
different systems. The benefits for communism are set up on a larger scale that
takes time and effort, as for capitalism hard work produces quick gains. Since it is
harder for people of communism to see direct results from their hard work, there
can be a tendency of people doing less, but still receiving the same as everyone else.
Thus, there needs to be some type of point system, which makes sure each person
does enough work to show for the goods received. If the work is not done then
something needs to be done, such as not giving them their share, jail time, or kicked
out of the community, resulting in poorer living standards. Capitalism however, gives
each individual a choice of the benefits they will receive from working hard or not.
You still have the chance to be poor, but unlike communism you have the chance to
become rich. In communism the hardest workers receive the same, but in capitalism
the hardest workers reap the most rewards.

Solzhenitsyn s choice to feature only one day of Ivan Denisovich s life. This single
day plot stresses that Shukhov s days no longer belong to himself, but rather they
belong to the Soviet government. One day to someone who is free is considered a
singular unit of time in the regular ebb and flow of everyday life, but one day for
Shukhov carries tremendous weight as a small part of his lengthy sentence. There
were three thousand six hundred and fifty three days like that in his stretch.
(Solzhenitsyn, 167) Each day was not planned out according to Shukhov s wishes and
impulses but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By choosing to focus on one heavily regulated day in the sentence of a political
prisoner, Solzhenitsyn displays the exhaustion and monotony that a labor camp
inmate faces each day of his sentence.
The direction of the novel s plot focused on the events of a single day is also
reminiscent of the way Shukhov exists from one day to the next in the camp. He can
afford to think merely of what are present, urgent concerns, and for someone with
many days left to serve, he is unconcerned with the future. In reality, one day s events
are weighty because their consequences affect the future. However, the construct of
time is fundamentally meaningless for Shukhov in such a restricted life where the
future is not dependent on the happenings of today. Shukhov could receive an
additional ration of bread on a given day, but that ration is completely unrelated to
how much bread he will receive the next day. This restriction forces Shukhov to
devote his attention to
Running Economy
Running economy is defined as the energy demand for a given velocity of
submaximal running, and is determined by measuring the steady state consumption
of oxygen and the respiratory exchange ration. Running economy is like fuel in a
vehicle. How much fuel does it take to operate a car or a person s body. Other factor
contributed to how much energyis required to fuel a runner, including metabolic
adaption, the energy storing ability of muscles and how well a runner s body utilizes
energy. Although, I found some of the terms in the article to understand, I found the
study to indicate there was a connection between runningeconomy and various
factors, such as kinematic variables.

surround us, have structures, if they didn t they wouldn t be able to stand. Structures

Moll Flanders Essay. The Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Famous Moll Flanders World ...

  • 1. Moll Flanders Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "Moll Flanders" can be both challenging and rewarding. The intricacies of Daniel Defoe's novel demand a thorough understanding of its plot, characters, and themes. One must delve into Moll's complex life, examining her struggles, choices, and the societal norms of the time. To construct a compelling essay, one needs to navigate through the layers of Moll Flanders' character development. Analyzing her motives, actions, and evolution throughout the narrative requires a keen literary insight. The novel's exploration of morality, social class, and gender roles adds another layer of complexity, demanding a nuanced approach to interpretation. • 2. The Success Of The Buffalo Bills Essay Everyone has a specific skill set that they are good at. Some people are good with numbers, others have a gift for writing. The same is true in sports. The Buffalo Bills are very good at losing and disappointing their fans, while the Patriots are fantastic at bending the rules and winning Super Bowls. In baseball, each team is built around a specific group of players in order to create the best possible chance to win the World Series. Some of the greatest players have created seemingly unbreakable statistics. Joe DiMaggio had a hit in fifty six consecutive games. Barry Bonds hit seven hundred and sixty two home runs over his twenty two year career. Statistics like these only come about once in a generation. Teams are comprised of various talent. Some are like Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera always has a batting averageover .300 with at least 25 home runs. These types of players are considered great hitters. Other s, like Stephan Drew, get a hit less than 20% of the time they have an at bat. Players similar to Drew s skill set have a job because they are very good at defense and their value on defense out ways their value on offense to their specific team. Baseball is sport rich with statistics. Almost anything one can come up with, has a statistic. In the last ten years alone, top executives, such as Billy Bean, have constructed teams based on advanced statistics and have been fairly successful, like the 2002 Oakland Athletics. Other teams, like the Houston Astros,

Conditioning occurs through interaction with the environment. Behaviorists believe that our responses to environmental stimuli shape our behaviors. Humanistic psychology humanistic psychology began as a reaction to psychoanalysis and behaviorism, which dominated psychology at the time. Psychoanalysis was focused on understanding the unconscious motivations that drive behavior while behaviorism studied the conditioning processes that produce behavior. Humanist thinkers felt that both psychoanalysis and behaviorism were too pessimistic, either focusing on the most tragic of emotions or failing to take into account the role of personal choice. Humanistic psychology was instead focused on each individual s potential and stressed the importance of growth and self actualization. The fundamental belief of humanistic psychology is that people are innately good and that mental and social problems result from deviations from this natural tendency. • 8. Pericles Lion And The Sea-Onion Analysis he Lion and the Sea Onion. Most self respecting artists would pick the former as the subject for a monument and dismiss the latter. Yet, the man behind the moniker of Sea Onion cannot be so easily dismissed. Pericles, the great Athenian statesman, was nicknamed Schinocephalos , or Sea Onion, by contemporary poets because of the large size of his head ( Pericles , History.com). The Lion of Justice, in this case, refers to King Henry II of England( King Henry II Biography ). On the surface, both Henry II and Pericles appear to be equally great leaders who made lasting impact on Western civilizations. Henry II established the English Common Law, which ensured the same laws applied everywhere in the country (Hinds 60). He also laid the foundation for a unified Britain by claiming Scotland and Ireland as parts of his realm (Morgan 143). Pericles united the Greek city states into an empire known as the Delian League with Athens at its center ( Pericles , University Press Inc). Under his leadership and patronage, arts, literature, and philosophy flourished, creating a cultural legacy that shaped all areas of Western thinking. Pericles also led the restoration of the Acropolis and the ambitious construction of the Parthenon (Nardo 10). But looking beyond their accomplishments, these two historical figures differ greatly in their motivations and personal conducts. Arguably, two of the most essential traits of a good leader are integrity and dedication to the common good. Using these qualities as a metric for comparison, we will see that Henry II falls short while Pericles is clearly deserving of a monument in his honor . Both Henry II and Pericles were highly driven and ambitious. But while Henry was fueled by the desire to glorify himself and his reign, Pericles wished to glorify Athens and its people. Henry II wanted to reclaim lands that were previously under his grandfather s rule. He used force and threats to claim lordship over Wales, Scotland, and Ireland (Hinds 12). In his mind, it was his birthright. As a general and statesman, Pericles also helped reclaim land (noticeably Delphi) for Athens ( Pericles , Bio). But rather than conquering neighboring poleis , Pericles chose to focus on making Athens a city

Firstly, huge footballing fans pay thousands of pounds every season to see their favourite team play week in week out. They must be paying a huge amount of money every season because they want to be entertained or else they would watch the games from home. Freshman year, when my friends and I would sit out on the yard on sunny days we would joke about how we d make the perfect photograph for a Xavier brochure because how diverse our group was. And it was pretty diverse. Every major region was covered. At other times, I was very interested in gender diversity; I attended multiple young women leadership programs in high school, but I never felt like I was being affected by being a female. Recently diversity has started to affect me more; coincidently or not, it paired up with class fairly well. In the beginning of the year, I was highly involved in the E/RS events concerning race. Then a mentor of mine struggled with her job; she is pregnant but her work does not offer maternity leave. Furthermore, I made a new friend this year that is in a wheelchair. • 15. Construction Of An Underground Network Of Tunnels Introduction In the 1850s over 400,000 tonnes of waste and sewage was being discharged into the River Thames each day. By 1858 the stench from the raw sewage around and within the Thames was named the Great Stink . It was a Civil Engineer named Joseph Bazalgette who proposed a plan of the creation of an underground network of tunnels, to put an end to the polluted river. His engineering feat has been improved and extended vastly but the Victorian Sewers still stand as London s primary sewer system. The sewers were designed to be a combined system meaning rainwater and waste were transported in the same manner. Bazalgette designed Combined Sewage Overflow (CSO) points along the Thames. The CSO s discharged the sewage and rainwater into the Thames after substantial rainfall, this prevented flooding the streets and houses. When designing the sewers, population increase was taken into consideration. (16) The underground system and factories were designed to treat and transfer sewage of up to double the population that was present when construction began. However the population of London almost quadrupled from 2.35 Million in 1850 (19) to 8.17 million in 2011(7). This drastic increase meant that the sewers were overloaded. The CSO s were overflowing with only 2mm of rainfall and on average discharging into the Thames around twice a week. The head of Thames Water Phil stride, said Currently, 32 million cubic metres of storm sewage overflows from London s Victorian sewers into

Parasites known as sea lice are contracted by farmed salmon living in cramped conditions and passed to wild stocks where they run rampant (Naylor, Eagle, Smith, 2003). Normally, they would be subdued in natural populations because the parasite cannot survive when the salmon return to fresh water. Equally detrimental are the chemicals used in salmon farming such as spawning hormones, antibiotics, and parasiticides that are subsequently released into the environment (Naylor, Eagle, Smith). Next, these authors warn that salmon have been known to escape from pens because of human error, predation, and storms. The farm escapees compete with wild species for the best food and mates. They often win, killing the native species (Naylor, Eagle, Smith). There are many prevalent issue surrounding the cages used to farm salmon. The fact that they are open net means that everything that happens inside the net gets released or transmitted into the open ocean. This is particularly important when talking about parasites, diseases, and chemicals because these all affect wild fish that we are trying to preserve by growing farmed salmon. Another way that open nets affect the ocean is through predation. Marine mammals are attracted to salmon farms because the open nets appear to be a normal school of salmon (Naylor, Eagle, Smith). When these natural predators, including seals, sea lions, and porpoises, get close to the nets, they are either shot by farmers protecting their salmon or become entangled in the nets and drown (Naylor, Eagle, Smith). Not only do open cages allow for the release of toxic elements into the ocean, they also encourage marine mammals to prey on salmon, causing their inevitable death. The last and most important way that salmon farming affects the

Udacity Course Analysis In 2011, Stanford professor Sebastian Thrun and research assistant David Stavens founded Udacity, a for profit platform on which MOOCs (massive open online courses) would be offered. One of their first classes, CS 373: Programming a Robotic Car, attracted 160,000 students across 190 countries. In simple terms of enrollment and global reach, Udacity was an instant success. Perhaps more importantly, Udacity showed the incredible potential of an online platform that can provide higher educationto those lacking the resources traditionally required to obtain it. In terms of sheer numbers, Udacity is not the only example of the success and popularity of MOOCs. In The Professors Big Stage, journalist and author Thomas Friedman detailed his friend Michael Sandel s experience as a MOOC professor. Sandel, who teaches a famous 1,000 student, Socratic Justice course at Harvard, launched his course on edX, a MOOC cofounded by MIT and Harvard, in 2013. Wycliffe also maintained that sinful preachers and bishops could be outside of God s law, and believed that There was a chance that Popes might err and that popes were not a necessary element for the administration of the Church (LaTourette 663). Malcolm D. We also describe the perpetrators along with some characteristics common to fraudsters. The hope in this paper is to build more awareness to the reader about this growing problem and to offer insight which will aid individuals and merchants from becoming victims of credit card fraud. Statistics from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) show that credit card fraud has reached the $1 billion mark and is growing. By the end of 2007, it is expected to reach the $3 billion mark in the US alone ([4] ACFE, 2007, p. 1.104). The availability of shopping over the internet has raised new concerns. Internet shopping continues to grow and there has been a 22 percent increase in spending in 2005 as compared to spending in 2004 ([4] ACFE, 2007, p. 1.104). Total internet spending has reached $143.2 billion in 2005 and surveys have shown that about 90 percent of all internet purchases are paid online with a credit card. Fraud occurs on approximately 5 percent of all internet purchases. What makes the internet so susceptible to fraud is the lack of face to face interaction with the fraudster, which allows for more anonymity and makes prevention and detection more difficult. During 2006, there were 207,492 complaints filed online with the Internet Crime Complaint Center [18] IC3 (2006, p. 3). During 2006, internet auction

The Legal Treatment Of Interns Over the past five years there have been major developments in the legal treatment of interns which have driven significant changes in the way companies approach internship programs. In 2010, the Department of Labor issued Fact Sheet #71, which provided guidelines as to the application of the Fair Labor Standards Act to internships. Most notable was the requirement that a sponsor of an unpaid internship may derive no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern(United Stated Department of Labor, 2010). These standards were subsequently adopted by courts in litigation over unfair labor practices in internship programs. Internships can no longer be considered a laissez faire practice. The practical effect is that there is little meaningful distinction in today s environment between an intern who performs productive work, and an employee. These external legal factors suggest that internships in the future may be, in part, a way of managing what Ivancevic, Konopaske, Matteson refer to as the psychological contract (Ivancevich, Konopaske, Matteson, 2014, p. 133). In other words, interns may be treated as employees in the current legal environment, but remain interns for the purposes of employer/employee expectations as to things like long term employment prospects and compensation. Employers can no longer view interns as a source of free labor. Employers must be prepared to commit more resources to their internship programs if they want to keep them, without being sued. At the same time, employers can use internship programs as a way of recruiting and training potential employees without the same level of commitment as full time employees. Even so, the increased risk and resource requirements attached to internship programs are likely to lead to greater employer expectations as to intern performance. Based on this analysis of the external trends in internship program practices, any internship program should be fully committed to complying with all worker protection and labor laws. Companies should clearly communicate their expectations to prospective

More recently, scholars have discounted the accuracy of this critique. They believe Mun and Misselden were not making this mistake in the 1620s, and point to their followers Josiah Child and Charles Davenant, who, in 1699, wrote: Gold and Silver are indeed the Measure of Trade, but that the Spring and Original of it, in all nations is the Natural or Artificial Product of the Country; that is to say, what this Land or what this Labour and Industry Produces. The critique that mercantilism was a form of rent seeking has also seen criticism, as scholars such Jacob Viner in the 1930s point out that merchant mercantilists such as Mun understood that they would not gain by higher prices for English wares abroad. The first school to completely reject mercantilism was the physiocrats, who developed their theories in France. Their theories also had several important problems, and the replacement of mercantilism did not come until Adam Smith published The Wealth of Nations in 1776. While communism sets direct demandson the work you do and what you need to produce, so others can benefit as well as you from your hard work. There are many different outcomes and problems that can occur as a result of the different systems. The benefits for communism are set up on a larger scale that takes time and effort, as for capitalism hard work produces quick gains. Since it is harder for people of communism to see direct results from their hard work, there can be a tendency of people doing less, but still receiving the same as everyone else. Thus, there needs to be some type of point system, which makes sure each person does enough work to show for the goods received. If the work is not done then something needs to be done, such as not giving them their share, jail time, or kicked out of the community, resulting in poorer living standards. Capitalism however, gives each individual a choice of the benefits they will receive from working hard or not. You still have the chance to be poor, but unlike communism you have the chance to become rich. In communism the hardest workers receive the same, but in capitalism the hardest workers reap the most rewards.
