1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is a poisonous chemical. Used in many areas of New
Zealand, yet it causes a devastating amount of damage harms many areas of New
Zealand.
What is 1080 used for
1080 is a poison used to protect the threats to native animals and plants from
introduced species. The pest control poison is effective in killing these introduced
species which kill our native animals/plants especially rats, stoats and possums.
Mainly found in vegetation lands, it prevents pests from eating healthy crops and
native animals. However, 1080 is a hazard to children, dogs, and many other
animals. This potential hazard can spread to bodies of water and can be present in a
specific areas for an extravagant amount of time. This danger makes 1080 an
unethical choice for controlling pests.
Recently, in 2015, a nationwide scare was put on Fonterra Baby Formula. An
anonymous letter sent to major news corporations (residing in New Zealand)

There are several styles of leadership and each leader expresses different
characteristics. The leader must also be able to find what works for his or her
group of people. As discussed in class there are a multitude of leadership styles.
They range from telling everyone exactly what to do, autocratic, all the way to
sitting back and letting the group take over, laissez faire. However, the leadership
style that my preceptor demonstrates falls between those two, she is a democratic
leader. This means that she takes the group s suggestions and opinions into
consideration. She does an incredible job to involve all members of the team in
discussion and can work with a small but highly motivated team
