According to IDEA, assistive technology
“means any item, piece of equipment, or
product system, whether acquired
commercially off the shelf, modified, or
customized, that is used to increase,
maintain, or improve functional capabilities
of a child with a disability.”
WHEN GETTING READY TO PURCHASE
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY, THERE ARE SOME
THINGS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER.
• Research the technology you are looking to purchase
• Try and talk to other teachers or people who have used this product
before
• Get the input of the child (if appropriate) to see their specific needs
• Only purchase the product if it is needed and suitable for the child
• Is there a warranty on this?
• Cost
• **Is a high tech product really appropriate?
Can a more low tech device give you the same results?
