This document discusses assistive resources for students with special needs. It explains that students with special needs require individualized education programs (IEPs) and may need assistive technology resources. Assistive technology can be categorized as no-tech, low-tech, or high-tech. No-tech resources include outlines and copies of class notes. 2. Overview
• Students with special needs requires help in many
ways.
• Students with these needs include but are not limited
to: learning disabilities, ADHD, Emotional disorders,
hearing impairment, and many more
• These students will have an IEP or an Individualized
Education Program which is a plan created by the
students, parents, and educators to ensure the student
is able to succeed in school.
• Some students will require resources such as assistive
technology to make this happen.

3. Assistive Technology Resources
• Assistive technology is an umbrella term that includes
assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people
with disabilities and also includes the process used in
selecting, locating, and using them.
• Assistive technology devices may be categorized as no
technology, low technology, or high technology.
• "No-technology" or "no-tech" refers to any assistive device
that is not electronic.
• "Low-technology" or "low-tech" devices are electronic but
do not include highly sophisticated computer components.
• "High-technology" or "high-tech" devices utilize complex,
multifunction technology and usually include a computer
and associated software.

4. Assistive Technology Resources
No Tech
• Some great examples of “no tech” resources
would be allowing students create flow charts
or outlines to help organize their thoughts.
• Another “no tech” idea would be for teachers
to provide students with copies of the notes
from class.

5. Assistive Technology Resources
Low Tech and High Tech
• Things to help students in class would be to videotape the
class sessions for students to go back and view on the in
the internet.
• Hearing assistive technology systems (HATS) are devices
that can help you function better in your day-to-day
communication situations. HATS can be used with or
without hearing aids or cochlear implants to make hearing
easier—and thereby reduce stress and fatigue.
