• Entered MDC in 2011-3, 2012-1 or 2012-2
• Enrolled in spring term (2012-2)
• Not on academic probation or warning
Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
Completed 67% courses taken
• Assigned a Student Services Advisor at
mandatory first year orientation:
met at least once
should have completed first year IEP
Reviewing Student Progress at the
25% Benchmark
• Have completed first year IEP
• Understand partnership/shared responsibility with
advisor
• Know to tell advisor when “anything changes”

(Average college student changes majors two or three times)
• Registered for classes other than planned IEP courses

sections, and advisement resources

• Human nature

If a student changes their major, they will be
reassigned to another Coach and Mentor.
If a student’s GPA drops below 2.0, they will be
reassigned to a SOAP Advisor in Student Services.

Module 2 Student Progress - 25% Benchmark

  • 1. Reviewing Student Progress at the 25% Benchmark 1
  • 2. What are the characteristics of a typical student at the 25% college benchmark? 2 • First Time in College, direct entry from high school • Entered MDC in 2011-3, 2012-1 or 2012-2 • Enrolled in spring term (2012-2) • Not on academic probation or warning Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA Completed 67% courses taken • Assigned a Student Services Advisor at mandatory first year orientation: met at least once should have completed first year IEP
  • 3. Reviewing Student Progress at the 25% Benchmark • Have completed first year IEP • Understand partnership/shared responsibility with advisor • Know to tell advisor when “anything changes” 3 • Changed program of study (Average college student changes majors two or three times) • Registered for classes other than planned IEP courses • Failed one or more courses • Had incorrect IEP (Courses, sequences, pre-requisites) Students should But some students 25%
  • 4. Reviewing Student Progress at the 25% Benchmark Many reasons for problems with IEPs, including • Lack of uniform information, standardized processes, course sections, and advisement resources • Competing priorities • Human nature 4 25%
  • 5. If a student changes their major, they will be reassigned to another Coach and Mentor. If a student’s GPA drops below 2.0, they will be reassigned to a SOAP Advisor in Student Services. For more details read the Reassignment Process in Module 2. 5
