Key Terms
A RATIO: is an ordered pair of non-negative numbers,
which are not both zero.
· A ratio is denoted A:B to indicate the order of the
numbers.
· The number A is first the number B is second.
· Two ratio's A:B and C:D are equivalent if there is a
number, c, such that C = cA and D = cB
An example of a ratio of two quantities could
be the following: 5 miles per 2 hours
We can re-write this ratio as a rate: 2.5 miles per hour
We can re-write this rate as a unit rate: 2.5
