Modernism dominated art theory as a reaction to changes in Western society from the 1890s to 1945, relating to logical thinking and analyzing texts in depth. Post-modernism began after World War II as a reaction against modernism, denying logical thinking and focusing on subjective experience and hyperreality. It refers broadly to the period following modernity as well as artistic movements that questioned absolute truth, believing the past should not define the present.
