Katelynn Mudgett created a presentation on the trials, importance, and contributions of female farmers. While there was a lot of information to include, she chose details that showed this is a serious topic. Female farmers currently produce over 80% of the world's food but face many challenges. They have limited access to resources and training. However, programs that provide better access, such as a coffee cooperative in the 1980s, allowed female farmers to improve their operations and make contributions to the local economy. Increasing support for female farmers is needed to help address world hunger issues.

Empower to Cook CIC offers hands-on cooking classes to teach practical food skills and nutrition to schools, communities, and families. Michael Brown, who has ADHD, founded Empower to Cook. Community Impact Bucks supported Michael and Empower to Cook by understanding the challenges of running a start-up while living with a mental health disability. As a result of Community Impact Bucks' efforts, Empower to Cook gained three volunteers and now has six volunteers total.
The document summarizes and compares the rewards offered in four crowdfunding projects. It finds that the CLEAN-UP CENTRALIA, PA and Cheers to Clean Water projects were successful because their rewards connected supporters to the projects and causes through items like DVDs and gifts from the locations. However, the Let's Clean Up Indonesia and Clean Water for Africa projects were unsuccessful because their rewards were too expensive and did not provide anything tangible for supporters, making contributors feel unsupported and unappreciated.
The Oxford-Lafayette Economic Development Foundation has launched the "Oxford Green" campaign to help local businesses develop greener workplaces. The month-long campaign includes incentives for businesses to implement eco-friendly practices, as well as three main events - a food and wine tasting fundraiser, a symposium on green business strategies featuring speakers Jim Morrison and Al Gore, and a tree planting event where businesses can sponsor the planting of eucalyptus trees. The goal is to increase environmental sustainability while recognizing businesses and making green changes more cost effective.

30% people in India suffer from food poverty, and at the same time, one million tonnes of food is wasted. In fact, India is worst waster of food in World. Supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and caterers contribute significantly to this figure. This isn’t their fault, it’s just that uncertain demand means that good food goes unsold. Disposing of food adds to the already high costs of running their business.

Jay started travelling the world and discovered significant inequality. The document summarizes statistics from the World Food Bank showing that North America and Europe spend far more on items like pet food, perfume, alcohol, and cigarettes than on global priorities like education, health, nutrition, water, and women's reproductive health. It promotes the ChristmasFuture organization, which allows people to donate to empowering community projects that create infrastructure, economic opportunities, education, and more in order to eradicate extreme poverty in a sustainable way.
The document summarizes a village exposure camp held in Hoskote, Karnataka. Students from three campuses of the Center for Social Action visited the village on Independence Day to understand rural living conditions and problems. They observed issues like water scarcity and lack of transportation. Through interactions with villagers, the students learned about financial difficulties of families and inadequate access to healthcare and education. Key problems identified were scarcity of drinking water, high medical costs, and lack of transportation options. Solutions proposed included setting up government-run drinking water outlets and hospitals in rural areas, as well as providing auto rickshaw transportation facilities.
Access Food is a social enterprise that connects food businesses with excess food to charities that can distribute it to those in need. By using an app and legal contracts, Access Food brings together businesses with unsold but edible food and charities helping the needy in local communities across India. This solves the problems of both food waste and food poverty by redirecting food that would otherwise go to waste to feed people who lack access to adequate food.

Charity: Water is a non-profit organization founded by Scott Harrison in 2006 that provides clean drinking water to developing nations. The organization has funded over 13,000 water projects in 22 countries, benefiting more than 4.6 million people. Scott Harrison committed two years to volunteer service with the poor where he saw that a lack of clean water was a root cause of other issues. Charity: Water uses social media and other platforms to raise funds and increase awareness of their efforts, providing transparency by sharing locations and photos of wells built.
GOONJ is one of India's leading NGOs, which recycles urban cloth into valuable resources for the rural poor. Some cloth is recycled into sanitary napkins. The issue of menstruation is often a taboo in India, and is seldom discussed in public. Unfortunately, millions of women suffer from various health problems due to a basic access to sanitary napkins. GOONJ has come up with a much needed ecologically friendly solution that needs to be scaled up throughout the villages of India.
VolunteerMatch is a nonprofit organization that connects volunteers with opportunities. In 2007, it welcomed over 9 million visitors and had a network of over 65,000 nonprofits and 2.3 million registered volunteers. VolunteerMatch sees trends of declining traditional retirement, a rise in informal social engagement, and faith-based opportunities remaining the top call to action. Data on volunteering shows that in the US 60.8 million volunteers gave 8.1 billion hours in 2007, with the largest areas being faith-based, education, and social services. In Denver specifically, 567,000 volunteers served 81 million hours per year, with the top areas being education, faith-based, and social services.
Anshu Gupta founded Goonj in 1998 with the goal of collecting and distributing reusable resources from urban India to rural communities in need. Starting with collecting 67 items of clothing from his own home, Goonj has expanded to a nationwide network that sends 3000-5000 kg of materials per month to help thousands. The Portland Farmers Market is promoting a food challenge to encourage local residents to spend at least 10% of their food budget on local food. Bringing farmers markets into a community brings together farmers, artisans, musicians and local businesses, fostering a sense of community and supporting human, financial, and physical capital. After no charges were brought in the Darren Wilson case in Ferguson, protests turned violent as the community wanted changes in leadership and addressing social inequity. In response to events in Ferguson, Missouri passed a law addressing issues raised after the shooting of Michael Brown, demonstrating social planning.
The document discusses four models of macro practice: locality development, social planning, social action, and references. It provides details on two examples:
1) The Stan Musial Bridge project in St. Louis which created jobs, increased property values and commercial development, reduced congestion, and connected two states.
2) The Collective Impact initiative in East St. Louis which brings together service providers, community members, and experts to address community problems through the Ready by 21 Forums model.
It also briefly discusses the Occupy Wall Street movement and some of the changes it helped spur in the financial industry such as blocking debit card fees and increasing transfers to local banks and credit unions.
6c Course Assignments Leadership Theories and Student Reflections ReportMichael Sayre
This document outlines two course assignments:
1) A leadership theories assignment that provides students a brief overview of leadership models and concepts to help them identify and apply the theories in practical scenarios. It aims to motivate veterans by giving them a sense of the full course of study.
2) A student reflections assignment where students' questions about their transition to academic life will be recorded, organized, and reviewed to help educators better assist future veteran students with issues ranging from campus logistics to unusual specific inquiries. The goal is to create a welcoming environment for veterans during their time in school.
This document contains summaries of three examples of macro social work concepts:
1) Locality development in St. Louis with the opening of a new IKEA store, which will provide jobs and economic activity.
2) Social planning by the city of St. Louis to connect homeless individuals with services through Project Homeless Connect.
3) Social action to achieve same-sex marriage laws through efforts to confront state legislation on a national level.
Leadership traits play an important role in a leader's success. Effective leaders possess drive and ambition to achieve goals and motivate others. They are honest, self-confident and able to make informed decisions. A leader's ability to think critically, communicate a vision, and empower followers through training and motivation are also key traits that contribute to organizational success. While traits alone do not guarantee leadership, having qualities like integrity, work ethic and business knowledge help effective leaders navigate challenges and implement strategies to achieve goals.
During my College Student Development course we were assigned to learn about a particular theory of our choosing to then teach the class. I chose to learn about Baxter Magolda's Epistemology Reflection.
Chapter 6 Preparation for Generalist Practiceuafswk
Chapter 6 addresses the roles of social workers in generalist practice at the exo- (community) and macro- (societal) levels of the environment, including agency administration, community organization, policy development, and research.
This document discusses logic models and theories of change. It provides examples of logic models for different projects, including a baby literacy project. It explains the components of a logic model, including the problem statement, goals, assumptions, resources, activities, outputs, and outcomes. It also discusses why logic models are useful for aligning actions to mission, examining assumptions, and planning, building consensus, and fundraising. The document emphasizes that logic models can help make a program theory explicit and structure evaluation.
Manpower planning involves forecasting future personnel needs, assessing current staffing levels, and developing strategies to ensure the right number and types of employees are available at the right times. It is a systematic process that promotes optimal use of human resources, continuous staffing, and flexibility to adapt to changing needs or circumstances. The goal is to link business and operational strategies by maintaining an appropriate balance between future workforce supply and demand.
The document discusses various theories and models of student development and change in college. It covers developmental theories like psychosocial, cognitive-structural, and identity development theories. It also discusses college impact models that look at environmental and organizational influences. While the theories differ in aspects like stages and processes, they generally propose that student development involves increased complexity, self-awareness, and independence over time through challenges and experiences. Sociological perspectives note the importance of social and environmental influences beyond just individual development.
Connie Gross is running for school board and outlines her qualifications and priorities. She has 11 years of experience on school councils and is an active parent ready for a new challenge. The teams include Marketing, Finance, Public Relations, Computer, Social, and Enhancing Our Future. Each team has a definition and list of projects, such as the Marketing team bringing life to projects through creative products and the Finance team keeping the association financially responsible.
This document discusses human resource planning (HRP) at both the macro and micro levels. At the macro level, HRP focuses on aligning human resources with organizational strategy and examining policies that affect management. The micro level is driven by the macro level and develops tactics to help the organization achieve its goals by ensuring it has the right number and mix of employees. Key aspects of micro-level HRP include demand forecasting, manpower supply analysis, and manpower planning.
The school management and educational leadershipPaolaGarcia4482
School leadership and management involves leadership, administration, and management working together. Leadership can be distributed among various people in the school and is not solely the responsibility of the headmaster. Successful school leadership requires guiding the school community towards its goals through motivation and orientation. It also involves treating all members of the school with respect, encouraging trust, and promoting democratic values. Effective leadership development employs methods like mentoring, coaching, and benchmarking that are grounded in educational principles of guidance, participation, and continuous learning.
Micro planning is a process that involves assessing, prioritizing, and documenting the needs of the local community in order to prepare a community-level development plan. It includes rapport building with the community, situation analysis, prioritization of problems and solutions, and negotiation with the community. The findings and process are then documented and presented.
This document discusses school governance and the role of the School Governing Council (SGC). It states that the SGC provides an opportunity for partnership between the school and community to improve student learning and well-being. The SGC assists in planning through developing the School Improvement Plan and setting the school's direction, while the school head provides day-to-day management. Clear understanding of membership, roles, and procedures of the SGC are important. The SGC must work for student welfare while not overstepping its financial or contractual authority without proper authorization.

Social entrepreneurship has lately been a buzzword lately to many industries. But good enough, entrepreneurs and organizations have shown that the purpose and profit do not add up to mutual exclusiveness but instead mutually beneficial. Hopefully, this way of business will become the routine for most organizations and industries. The primary objective the social enterprise is to spot a need in the society and find possible solutions to the problem identified. Most problems have a social origin or purpose. A social entrepreneur should balance properly the profit and use. The project should be done in a smart way to avoid any loss. The enterprise’s profit should support the purpose of the project.
In the contemporary society, there are issues which affect the people living within. This includes social problems with unmet needs. The primary aim of this project is to solve the social problems affecting the youths in the society in a negative way. Among the most hit in the community are the low-income earners and the youth. This affects the greater population in the community. The project concept was to engage the youth to participate in free soccer games and other different projects within the community. This was to reduce the rates of youth dropping out of school, using drugs, engaging in early sex and involving themselves with criminal gangs. Also considering the level of idleness among the poor, there are very high chances of developing stress.
Since the whole idea is to come up with a service that acts as a reward, the approach is non profitable. The soccer field project was entirely a non-profit organization. The utilization of the facility was an opportunity given to all the youths to exercise social cause. Hence, access to the service was entirely free to the target groups. This should be achievable by cooperating with the sponsors to freely provide the service free of cost. The target groups are the youths and the low-income earners. Anybody falling under the category has the right the mandate to access the soccer field any time. Any revenue earned to be used in developing the field to be fit for best services. This is pictured to bring the best impact on the outcome of the target group’s lives apart from making the place a better place.
The soccer field will be mainly dedicated to its main objective. This is to reach to all the low- income members and the young persons. As this will offer the people a way to enjoy and spend their free time. The venture also aims at promoting healthy living among the youths and people who cannot afford the gym membership. The project’s Mission Statement will be, “The soccer field project is a non-prof ...

#Businessforgood. Trends in Social Enterprise.Tirrah Switzer
Social enterprises are innovative businesses that address the long-term needs of our world. Social enterprises can be structured in several ways – non-profit, for-profit or hybrid. Echoing Green, a seed-stage funder of social enterprises has seen an increase in applications of both for-profit and hybrid models. An emerging trend for hybrid social enterprises is building a for-profit and non-profit arm of the social enterprise that furthers the organization’s social agenda. The social enterprise sector in the United States is estimated to be double the size of the mining industry and three to five percent of the United States total gross domestic product. The social enterprise movement soared in 2006 with sixty percent of today’s social enterprises founded after 2006. Social enterprises are tackling the world’s problems. Last year, poverty alleviation and economic development were the top program areas for hybrid and for-profit funding applicants. As the social enterprise sector continues to grow, a trend we see more of is more defined social and/or environmental impact. Tom Shoes, a well-known social enterprise, has received much media attention and criticism of their business structure. Not only has TOMS learned from the criticism but it has assisting in building structures for other social enterprises.
Funding is often referred to as an obstacle for social enterprises. New funding sources are allowing social enterprises the ability to be original and ground-breaking in their funding pursuit. Social enterprises are trending worldwide; something is happening in every corner of the world regarding social enterprises. Consumers are willing to match their wallets and hearts when it comes to spending money with social enterprises. Based on the activities of stakeholders, entrepreneurs, investors, governments, media and consumers, we should continue to see the movement of social enterprises advance.

obesity rates that have tripled over the last thirty years.

Restructuring the way American children eat and play

9. Social Action
Human – some of the people on the
crowdfunding sites are asking for help to start
their businesses so their human capital would
be the skills that they bring to the table in
whatever their endeavor may be. The example
from the article was a microbrewery so the
human capital would be: managing a business,
brewing beer, time management, and other
skills similar to those.
Financial – I’ll use the microbrewery as an
example again, the beer that they brew would
be financial capital because that is what is
going to make them money. Their
crowdfunding campaign would also be
considered financial capital because it is what is
going to initially bring in money to allow the
owners to open and operate their microbrewery
Social - The social capital will also come from
the crowdfunding campaign because not only
will it allow them to make money, but it will also
connect them with people the otherwise may
not have connected with. The microbrewery
also lets fans vote on which beers are brewed
each month which is another social aspect due
to its interactive nature.
Physical - The actual crowdfunding site would be
physical capital because it is the entity that exists that
allows people to raise money. In the brewery
example, the brewery would be physical capital
because it is the building where the final product is
being made.
I believe crowdfunding sites are considered
a social action because one campaign can
attract millions of donations from people who
believe in the same cause. People can
crowdfund for whatever they like, popular
crowdfunding campaigns have been for
paying medical bills, raising money for
charity, helping abused/homeless animals,
and for startup businesses.
