Session Presented at 1st IndicThreads.com Conference On Mobile Application Development held on 19-20 November 2010 in Pune, India

Speaker: Rohit Nayak
Abstract:
Mobile development is still in a nascent stage. New platforms keep emerging and old ones regularly undergo major changes. To confuse matters further there are several cross-platform tools each claiming to use a single codebase to target multiple phones. What is a developer to do?
In this talk we will look at some of the key cross-platform mobile platforms out there including Appcelarator Titanium, PhoneGap and MoSync. We will start out by reviewing the different mobile platforms and development environments before reviewing the landscape of cross-platform tools. We will discuss the different design approaches used by these platforms to support their target smart-phones. Quick demos using a few of these platforms will be shown so that the audience will get a flavor of the low level coding details as well as supporting tools like IDEs and simulators provided. Java and QT are traditional cross-platform environments which have a place in mobile development as well. We will take a quick look at support available for these on mobile platforms. Finally we compare the different approaches in terms of functional limitations, programming complexity, deployment and lock-in.
Takeaways from the session
Review of the mobile single platform and cross platform landscape
Should I look at cross-platform development or not?
Which cross-platform tools make sense for me?
What kind of developers do I need for cross-platform development?

Responsive content ... because size does matter - Rob Suckley, Head of Design...B2B Marketing
Years ago it was all about keeping up with digital screens that were getting bigger. Then they started to shrink. Now we’re all mobile and we want it all instantly, faster, better and appropriate to our device if it’s all the same to you.
So, what does this mean for your content, your text, your images, your call to actions? How can you ensure this all works, has an equal amount of impact no matter how or what your content is accessed on. Does it matter anyway? And are you sure you know what the impact of not focussing on this will have on your business...? Our session is designed to help, we want to educate, share our knowledge and give you the power to make an informed decision before you make any investments
Understanding the value of your customers to deliver business growth - DMAB2B Marketing
An ongoing challenge for the B2B marketer is to align their marketing efforts with complex customer needs and segment their messaging to key influencers. Many B2B marketers fail to properly identify the customer journey to generate the most compelling experience to capture customers through their marketing mix.
And yet for most companies, the Pareto Principle applies: 20% of customers account for 80% of profits. The best investment to make in adverse economic conditions is to find and attract more customers that look and behave like your best customers. The right marketing channel to reach quality new customers may not be the cheapest option available, but the investment will pay off.
The presentation will offer best practice guidance and use the DMA’s own B2B marketing and sales strategies to demonstrate how to achieve 400% increase in new business during a recession.
The session will look at:
Understanding the true value of your customers and what you can afford to acquire them
An explanation of a classic approach to lifetime value
3 key improvements that helped the DMA increase membership acquisition by 400%: an overarching value proposition, a clearly defined segmentation strategy and a customer focused tone of voice
Let’s talk about IT, because I think there is a lot going on in the transportation technology sector that will affect cycling and cyclists. What I talk about are Intelligent Transportation Systems. On these slides you see some examples of the possibilities that are either already available, or are being developed. like
- blind spot detection on cars
- a braking light on the bike
- communication between the infrastructure and cars and bikes
- information sharing on mobile devices
So there is some ‘intelligence’ (computer / technology) component.
This topic has a worldwide relevance as the technology and car industry is a worldwide business. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that it will begin to take steps to enable vehicle-2-vehicle (V2V) communication technology for light vehicles, meaning that vehicles will be able to ‘talk’ to each other and avoid crashes. Although the words cyclist and pedestrian pop up in the documents and there is some research that includes cycling, I am not confident that the transportation technology sector will naturally include the needs of all cyclists, pedestrians, and also children playing on the street. I think that cyclists themselves are not yet involved enough in the whole vehicle-2-vehicle conversation. Not in Europe and not in North America.

Mobile-First Indexing & The Story Your Data Isn't Telling YouMobileMoxie
Learn about how Google's shift to Mobile-First Indexing is making it easier for Google to crowd search results, especially mobile search results with 'hosted inclusions' which are part of the Knowledge Graph. Google hosts these assets, and uses the click information to hone their algorithm about how to best match searches and questions with answers. Unfortunately, 'Hosted Inclusions' such as: Knowledge Graph, People Also Ask, Found on the Web and Related Searches generally do not drive people to your site. Instead, they keep people in Google's universe. The lack of clicks from search results in SEO's making major decisions on only 38.5% of the data.
Learn everything that is not in the official documentation about the impact that Mobile-First Indexing is really having on SEO & how you should modify your analytics strategy to respond.
Learn how the changes that Google is making may impact mobile search results - especially the stuff that can be used in both voice and mobile search results like Answers & Knowledge Graph. Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
